Awesome Gem to find while visiting the Spokane area. Service was friendly and on point. We took our daughter and nieces after a long day at the water park for a memorable family dinner. Fresh product and classy vibes with fantastic pricing. After living on Maui for six years finding quality sushi is a struggle. Be sure to check this place out!

We have not been able to find Sushi 🍣 anywhere in Spokane as good as Toro's. The flavor, freshness and presentation is worth the wait. Come with extra time to be seated cause it's usually a full house of other happy eaters. I love the Tonkatsu, Veggie Tempura and Vegetarian roll.

I was here last week for dinner, ordered a spicy tuna roll and ended up with food poisoning. I was up for hours in the middle of the night with intense stomach cramping, diarrhea and vomiting. I'm pretty sure their ice machine is moldy as well. Every time I am served ice water, it tastes like mold and mildew to the point where my entire family brings their own beverages when we come here. We won't be back. The food is too expensive just to throw up when you get home.

Toro Sushi is a great experience, with great good, great atmosphere, and great service. Music is at a good level to still allow conversation while giving a bit of privacy.

The chefs do the most incredible job and all so humble, this place is worth every penny!

Only complaint is they're not open for lunch!

I recently dined at Toro and enjoyed the wonderful sushi and prompt service. The server was friendly and helpful. However, I witnessed an incident where either the manager or head chef berated the servers loudly in the open area and in front of a full restaurant. This is an unacceptable way to treat staff and created a very uncomfortable atmosphere for diners. While I've had great experiences here before, the way staff are treated is a major concern. Sadly, I won't be returning due to this

I tried calling my order in on the way from work. No answer so I couldn't order ahead of time. Was not extremely busy inside. I gave my order at 6:17pm. 7:05 I was ready to walk out, possibly even cry. I was tired and hungry. I asked to pay at 7:10 and walked out with my food at 7:23pm. This is my first time there and will probably be my last. I did tell the waitress who handed me my food that I waited an hour for my takeout. She was very sorry. My sister said her Sushi was good but my Chicken Teriyaki was extremely dry.

We got to the restaurant a little before 6. Then we got seated shortly after and we're not asked what we would like to eat. I had to ask the hostess to get someone to take our order. They did not come until 6:30. We got our sushi 30 min after we ordered and then our entrees came over 45 min later. The Dish guy came to our table more than the waitress. He was good. The sushi was mid tier and the Yakisoba was very good. Overall, I do not recommend this restaurant.

1st time going to Toro. Was not what I was expecting but I was pleased with the atmosphere. Very laid back and calm. The food was delish I had a Rainbow roll and a Las Vegas and both were very delish. My friend had 1 roll which was Tempura and she loved it. She also ordered the chow mein and it definitely could be split between two people it was a good sized helping. The only thing I would of liked was if our waitress who had dark hair young gal would of asked how we were doing she literally dropped the food off and that was it. Thankfully the other waitress was on top of keeping our glasses full of water and she was pleasant. But all in all I would go back again because I thought things were reasonably priced and it was just a very relaxing atmosphere in there.

We made a reservation and upon our arrival we were not greeted for almost 10 minutes. Then we’re told that it’s first come first serve even with a reservation. Which makes no sense because that’s the point of a reservation. They sat us at the only available table in which was reserved for larger groups but we’re willing to accommodate.(The only good thing that happened) Our waitress was rude and unpleasant all around. Upon ordering we were told they weren’t cooking anything and had shut half the kitchen down to make things easier for them. Last straw was the water that tasted like moldy well water. We promptly got up and left. This used to be a great restaurant but they have fallen significantly. I highly recommend finding somewhere else to eat!!!

DO NOT GO. Absolutely the worst restaurant in Spokane. It took ten minutes to even be acknowledged when we walked in which is unacceptable. Then the kitchen refused to make any appetizers the rest of the night. The whole restaurant seemed understaffed for a Saturday night, some genius put lemon and sugar in hot oolong tea without asking us first. The server didn't even have a pen on her for our order. To top it all off, ONE HOUR for our food and the portions were laughable for the price and wasn't very tasty. TERRIBLE experience, buyer be warned.

Terribly hit or miss service and quality here. I’ve been every few months for the last 3 years because it’s in the area. Tonight we waited over 45 min for couple rolls, nigiri and udon soup as only the second table in the room. If that’s not bad enough, the sake was heated to the point of removing the alcohol. I wish I was exaggerating but I consumed a large by myself because my partner didn’t like it and I walked out of there without a giggle in my talk or a wiggle in my walk. To add to it, four of us were seated, two sets of sticks and plates were present, never offered more, even when food was brought out. And it’s funny because this has happened on visits a time or two before. Lack of details like this the waitresses have is slightly embarrassing. Get it together Toro, the Valley needs you.

Truthfully, I love the food. I've only been there twice. But today (01/6/24) was the second time. My family really enjoyed your establishment but due to unforseen circumstances, we were unable to enjoy your services. We had ordered hot food, and was told about 15 minutes later that it would take an hour, due to having only one cook who could make hot food. Because of this, we decided to eat elsewhere.

A single mother’s dining nightmare. I am saddened and disheartened by the experience my two year old son and I endured this evening at Toro. I’ve been a consistent customer at this establishment for over five years, and never have I received such dismissive and negligent service. I arrived at 5:35, was seated promptly at a table. I requested to be moved to a booth once one had opened, to which I was. It then took another 30 minutes before our waitress had asked for our order. (40 minutes after initially arriving) I ordered chicken yakisoba. I was told it may take time, though assured it was the only item on the menu we came to enjoy, and that it were okay. After thirty minutes of waiting for our order, I spoke with one waitress who went to check and see how much longer it would be, she came back and stated it would be another 30 minutes. At this point I was flustered and confused as to how it could take that long. I asked if there were anything that could be done and after she had spoke with the owner three separate times- she assured me there was nothing they could do to make it quicker, and that sushi is of higher priority. She did take responsibility for not taking my order until 40 minutes after I had been seated, and repeatedly apologized for the wait. At this point, my son was getting a bit unsettled, understandably so after being content and waiting patiently with me for our food for what was an hour and twenty minutes. I became emotional while waiting, in disbelief of the service I was receiving. I had witnessed 4 separate tables be seated, served, pay and leave in the time we waited for our food. One table seating two began to leave and APOLOGIZED on behalf of the restaurant for the service I was receiving. Two other tables personally came up to me to see if I were alright and even offered to speak with their* waitresses in an effort to get results. Assuring my son our food was coming, it never came. After two hours of being there, a waitress came over and told me regretfully that they would need to CANCEL my order. And that they have no way to make the yakisoba, stating the owner claimed they were out of rice. Yakisoba is a noodle dish. I was absolutely appalled and at this point, in tears. Expressing my confusion for how this could happen. As well as my concern as I came to dinner with my sweet toddler, and we received no food. The owner only sent over waitresses to apologize and explain though never made effort to communicate with me the circumstances. I was told I may “go over to speak with him”, though it was very clear that no amount of communication would result in the yakisoba I had ordered an hour and twenty minutes prior, nor a proper resolution. Upon getting up with my toddler to leave, a kind woman who was seated hopped up and asked what was happening, to which I explained I had waited for two hours to be served and that it resulted in my order being cancelled entirely. She acknowledged that I had a little one to feed and was mutually appalled by the scenario, asking if I would like her to try to order, though I expressed that the owner had made it clear yakisoba was not an option any longer. The kindness, consideration and empathy I received from fellow customers and strangers was greater than that which was given from the staff and owner of Toro Sushi. I will never return again. And while I am only one customer that they very evidently do not care to lose, the utter dismissal of the entire experience was so much more than I’d ever be willing to risk again. My toddler cried as we left “I want food, I don’t want to leave.” It was heartbreaking and beyond belief.

I called Black Straw upon leaving Toro Sushi and asked how long it would take for an order of chicken fried rice, relaying our experience at toro, and they said ten minutes. We were seated upon arrival and within TWO minutes of arriving at Black Straw, we were served our food.

We made a reservation and got seated promptly but waited 15 minutes for a drink order to be taken, then 15 more minutes for 1 out of the 3 drinks to come, another 30 minutes till the 2 teas were brought out. We waited 1.5 hours for our sushi rolls and watched all the to go boxes go ahead of the dine on service. Our waitress was so unattentive and we saw her a total of 3 times during our 2 hours there. The sushi rolls have gone downhill in the last 3 years. A very disappointing "celebration" for our family.

This is a pretty good sushi spot; arguably the only one in eastern Spokane Valley. Food is good quality, and though it can be a bit pricey, averaging $8.00 - $14-$15.00, you get 6-8 rolls depending on the dish, and that seems to be typical for what you'd pay at other spots. Where points get lost is the service. Everyone does their best, and most do it calmly, but there seems to be a lot of chaos behind-the-scenes; lots of running around, questions, and general frantic energy. I've heard wait staff sigh and mutter, "Hooray," when preparing a table for a larger group, which is a bit disappointing to hear as a patron. I suspect like most places these days, this place suffers from being short-staffed, and likely the staff that remain are underpaid. However, this is one of those spots where you can *feel* the staffing issues, which is why I prefer to order to-go. This also guarantees that people get my order right; I've had a couple errors before but staff were happy to amend the issues. Altogether - a good place to get good food to-go, not so much a good place to enjoy food at.

I heavily recommend the Bunny and Caterpillar rolls. Toro doesn't mess around with salmon!

I rated this as "okay." I didn't think it was bad in any sense. I wasn't wow'd though either. We ordered calamari a couple of rolls and one bar made drink. Though pretty the calamari was too rubbery. The rolls were yummy but incredibly small. The drink was heavy on the soda and the service was alright. They attempted to work as a team but they didn't seem very happy to be there and some things had to be asked a few times. I again think it was okay.

The best sushi in Spokane Valley! I love that they offer cucumber wrapped rolls (no rice!) so I can still get my sushi fix on a diet. Service can be hit and miss, so I always try to go Tuesday-Friday. Take out is really the way to go. I don’t try this place on a Saturday, unless I show up around opening, 4:30, because they get slammed pretty quick. Sushi chef is always very kind, thanking me for ordering when I do. So glad to have this place so close!

Cannot comment on the food because they cancelled my take out order after 30 minutes of me placing the order in the restaurant and waiting for it at the sushi bar. The "Boss"/one of the rollers (why are you rolling dude? run the place) just decided to proclaim cancel all take out orders. They must've taken about 6 or so right when i came and maybe just 2 of us stayed and waited, did they call those other poor folks, certainly not. Did this boss apologize for cancelling the order when i was right there in front of him, no, nor gave any explanation. It was valentine's day and the tables were full, but are you really incapable of servicing a full house and take out at the same time. Your business skills are a joke.
I never got the chance to taste the food and never will solely because they are horribly rude and just bad at running a business. I almost feel bad for the people who own as well as work there, almost but then remember they ruined my valentine's dinner with my wife and newborn and we just ate leftovers.
You guys are just sad. I've never seen people get in their own way so badly, it's comical. And i am not even sharing the disarray the service staff was in. Food must be good if this joke of a business is still getting patrons

My partner and I came into Toro on a Thursday an hour and a half until closing. I stand by not eating at restaurants up until closing because I respect that they have closing duties, but an hour and a half is most definitely enough time for us to eat and leave, well before closing. We were greeted by everyone standing in a cluster glaring at us, one hostess came over and I clarified, “you guys are open till 9 right?” She looks around and hesitated as if she didn’t know, or if she was contemplating serving us looks back at kitchen and then says “uh yeah”. We sat down and there was one other table of two finishing up their meal. An older man came over to take our order and had only given us maybe 2 minutes to sit down and look at the menu before asking us if we were ready to order. We asked for miso soup and he said he would check is there was any left. He came back with two half filled bowls and said he would charge us for one. The saltiest bottom of the bowl soup you could ever have. Again this was 7:40 and I clarified with the server for the second time “you guys are open until 9 right?” He just says “yeah”. We then decided after being glared at the whole time by the little gaggle or hosts and waiters in the corner and the terrible service that we would pay for the soup and leave. We were very disappointed by this service and will likely not return.

Sushi Experience №91

I would leave less stars if I could. I ordered miso soup as an appetizer. Miso is traditionally a vegetarian and often vegan dish, made of miso paste, which is made of soybean and some other seasonings. I told the server who took our order that I was a vegetarian, and it was important to me to not have fish or meat in my food when I placed the order. He served me miso soup, and after a few bites I felt like something off. I grabbed a different server to confirm that it was a vegetarian dish, and in fact, they make their miso soup with CHICKEN BROTH. this is not listed on their menu, and it was not disclosed when I placed my order initially. I had to ask a different server to find this out.

My partner brought this up with our waiter when we got our bill, and he didn't say anything. He just left. No apology, nothing. We paid and left.

Slow service is one thing. That's fine. It's okay to be slow, or busy. It's NOT okay to be rude, or to serve people food that they asked specifically not to have. Now I get to spend my Friday night and Saturday in the bathroom, feeling incredibly Ill. NOT okay.

My partner said his sushi was OK quality, but nothing great. My Inari, the other dish I ordered, was also very mediocre.

Don't go here. It's not very good food anyway.

My boyfriend and I have eaten at this restaurant several times and have never had a problem until tonight. We had the worst, rude service from the manager we’ve ever experienced dining out. We ordered a sushi roll and wine to start, which came out promptly. We then ordered the rest of our meal. We waited at least 40 minutes and finally asked out waiter about our order. We were told he mistakenly forgot to “put our order in”. In the meantime, he brought us another plate with two sushi rolls as an “apology” our entree arrived not too long after, but only half of what we ordered. The food was delicious, but then the bill came 😳 we were charged for the “oops” plate plus the food we never got, to the tune of $80 plus. We drew this to the table waiter’s attention and he came back with the check still not correct. He then asked for my boyfriends card and said his manager would take care of this situation. At this point we had been at the restaurant two hours when the manager came to our table offering us 15% off of our bill since, according to him we only had to wait 30 minutes. This is not taking into account that our order wasn’t correct. The manager left and came back with the card run, 15% taken off and food charged for we didn’t order and some we didn’t get. He was very angry and words were exchanged since he wouldn’t listen to reason at all. He leaned over the table in a threatening manner yelling at us, causing a scene. We informed him we wouldn’t be back. A person in management capacity should never treat a customer the way we were treated tonight. I was in the restaurant business for 15 years and had he been my employee he would have been fired on the spot! We won’t be back. He stole from us tonight.

Reply: We did NOT order a second Marilyn roll. Your server brought it out on the plate with another roll with apologies for not turning our order in. This was a gift, that’s the way he made it sound. We were charged for this plate that we didn’t order! We ordered teriyaki chicken and wanted the tempura vegetables. I can’t remember what they are called. If your server wrote something else down that was not our error. Your behavior as a business owner was horrific and I hope you think twice the next time you lean over a customers table yelling at them when you wouldn’t even listen to what we were trying to explain. Shame on you

The two servers (girls) have their hair as long down to their butts not pulled back so it avoids hair in food, chewing gum, tunnel vision. I don’t think it’s sanitary for a servers hair to not be pulled back and away from our food. I waited 20 mins for just me and was sat but the people behind me were sat 5 minutes later and were served drinks and their food by the time I was even talked to, which the only reason I was talked to was because a male server heard me say excuse me is there a server even in this section after the 5th time of trying to get someone’s attention after waited 20 mins to be acknowledged. I’m a server and have been for 7 years and am very understanding but this place seems unorganized, unhygienic and lacking a sense of understanding of how to properly serve their guests. The food was great but the experience and service was the worst I’ve experienced.

My fiancé and I have come here for six years. After tonight we will never come back again. We were seated within a few minutes and looked over the menu. Our waitress was wonderful and very kind. We looked at the menu for 10 minutes and our waitress came back to take our order. We ordered house sake hot, veggie tempura, and the sushi order for two. Our waitress came back 15 minutes later to tell us that the kitchen was out of rice? Excuses. You should prep for a busy weekend evening. It was a busy Friday night, and the fact your establishment is only open a handful of times a month, we were very disappointed and upset. We always try and support local, but if you continue to have lazy kitchen staff and inconsistent hours, your doors will close soon. I’m a very reasonable person, but taking responsibility for your businesses actions are in order. Also, please do not respond with a rude response like you have done with so many of your patrons. Stop making excuses, and hold your business to the standard that your customers deserve.

Very good for the price Mark was the only one that was actually working (waiter wise) and he was doing everything, the female waitress filled water once that we saw the entirety we were there. Sushi was filling and when they say it's spicy they aren't lying husband got the diablo (according to my husband it caused his nose to drain). I had the fancy roll and I liked the texture as well as the flavor. We also had calamari which was better than the last place, but was a little too battered and was greasy because of it/ took away from the calamari flavor. Calamari was chewy( not supposed to be as it was served hot).

Most roll cost about 14 dollars and nigiri are 7 for 2 pieces. This is a decent sushi place for those who are craving. However, their service is not the greatest.
I understand Saturday can be crowded but when they have only one waiter that takes order while the others only serve water/ food or fulfill phone order, that causes long unnecessary wait times even with a few empty tables. We were seated quickly and water also came quickly but it took 30 min for someone to take the order and took another 20-30 min to get food. Also took 15 min to get someone to give us check but only take less than 5 for them to come grab signed checks and tip. It is hard to get acknowledge by waiters. Talk about customer service right?
If you must go on Saturday, go an hr early before you get hungry or learn to pull a waiter even if they are not looking at your way.

This is our favorite Sushi house by far!!
We will drive over an hour one way to eat here. There are plenty of Sushi places closer to us but Toro is worth the drive and the gas…. Even with gas being over $5.00 a gallon.
The staff always friendly, the food is AMAZING and the pricing is reasonable for what you get. If anyone knows Trapper’s Sushi in the Seattle are, Toro Sushi tops them by far!
Thank you Toro Sushi for the great food and service! We are your forever customers…. No matter how far we live from your location!

Sushi is good but hours are so inconvenient. 8/10 shushi or Chinese restaurants don’t open until dinner time. I have had to go all the way out to CDA when I want sushi or Chinese before 430p.m. Because of this I have found a much cheaper and tastier restaurant that is open normal hours in CDA SOOOOO good and prices are amazing!! Terrible service. We waited 20 minutes or so for a table. After being seated and placing our order, the waitress apologized and mentioned that they were out of beef. We were understanding as it was a Saturday night and proceeded to order chicken instead. She came back and proceeded to tell us that they were out of chicken as well and lectured us about how the tables that ordered before us are first priority. She then says that they aren’t cooking hot food for the rest of the night. We felt so unwelcome that we just got up and left. Complete waste of 40 minutes, and we will definitely never be returning.

Only spice they have was sriracha, bummer as I like everything spicy but hate sriracha lol I would give it 5 starts if they fixed the AC issue and had anything more than sriracha.

The ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! Try hiring someone over the age of 12 to manage your front line. After 5 loyal years, I will find another sushi place.

Update: Your hostesses/servers are a bunch of giggling children who clearly cannot handle your busy front end - especially on a Friday night. Over the past several months, your service has gone very far downhill. If we don't call in our order by 6:30pm, you run out of our favorite dishes. Was told to come for my order in 20 minutes - I showed up after 30 minutes and then had to wait another 30 minutes for one out of the 4 dishes I ordered. All of that time, my cooked food sat around and got cold. All your "hostess" could say was "it's not MY fault". No chopsticks, soy sauce or wasabi included with my $70+ order. We always look forward to our Friday night sushi but will no longer support Toro.
Too bad because the food is good.

We've picked up a good amount of orders and love their sushi probably the best in town. Tried dining in once we waited forever to be seated, got seated and were told they didn't have any hot food available so we ended up leaving. Would have been nice to have been told they were out of "hot food" in a restaurant that was still open for two more hours while waiting in line rather than 20 min after getting there. What set me off completely and why I will never return is their terrible service. The last situation and one that just took place. We placed an order for pick up arrive 5 min after they said it would be ready. I waited in line for a few minutes approached the register for a few minutes felt awkward because not a single employee acknowledged me then I went and sat for an additional 5 min. Was there for over 10 min saw 5 different employees and not a single one of them could at least great me. I honestly feel as if it were a racial profiling situation unfortunately because of the experience my husband and I had trying to dine in including this one. Once again great food. Terrible terrible disrespectful unfortunate service

these were the most terrible rolls and sushi that I have ever eaten, it was not very tasty, sushi and rolls fell apart, cooks cook with their bare hands without gloves, without masks, two waitresses for all guests, cooked for about an hour, people stand in the corridor and wait in turn, but many tables are empty and no one approaches them, the table at which I sat staggered and was dirty and sticky, I asked to wash the table, but no one did, but I am at a dirty and sticky table, I will never return to this restaurant and I don't recommend anyone to go there.

Update June2022:
Always closed whenever we want to eat here.
Can not believe they close for lunch.
Update Sept2020: sushi overall is good but service is very slow. They need more staff to handle the amount of people.

Update: I lowered the star again because the phone is unplugged from the wall so they don’t receive any take out calls. Very frustrating.

I love coming here for sushi but the owner needs to work on his business skills. All the staff act like they are going to get yelled at any second and they are closed during commonly busy hours.

Plan ahead if you want to eat here.

I've been going to Toro since it opened. Sadly, it's been on a slow downward slide for years. I just went for the last time. The vibe is so depressing --no smiles hardly at all (I actually felt sad for the waitresses), the service is slow, and the sushi is just okay. Tonight the rice was so bad. It didn't hold the nigiri at all--it just all fell apart. The albacore was the worst I've ever had--I'm hoping it wasn't bad. I've been eating sushi since 1990--it's my favorite food. Do NOT recommend. 👎

I’ve been going to Toro for almost 4 years now regularly and the quality of the fish and sushi is hands down top 3 in Spokane, however, since Covid the service has severely deteriorated. The lack of management in the front of the house really shows, I’d recommend going right when they open at 430 or else show up with a lot of patient’s. Everyone is really friendly but the waiting staff consist of a lot of new employees with very little experience.

I've been coming to Toro Sushi for a number of years. I used to rave about the sushi, sashimi, and service. Unfortunately, it's really gone down hill. I got yelled at by a sushi chef tonight because I tried to clarify and make a modification to the sashimi sampler. It was so embarrassing! They wouldn’t tell me what type of fish was included. Absolutely no accommodation for my food sensitivities.

MULTIPLE TIMES. Yes the correct phone number. Etc. How are these people even still in business is mind boggling

To the owner: I think you should get another phone company and/or try calling your own line once in awhile because it 1000% says that on multiple occasions. I double checked the number and tried on many days. It’s not us it’s you

Not my first time ordering from them but finally was able to take pictures before it was devoured. Everything is just as great as always, the fish tastes fresh and there's a generous amount. As an example, another favorite place offers surf clam nigiri with just half of it for the same price. I got extra piece of squid nigiri, realized that when I looked at the picture. We tried fried oysters for the first time, and loved it. Actually craving it again just looking at the picture. Crunchy on the outside, plump and juicy inside, perfectly cooked, and the sauce it came with (not pictured) is pretty tasty. This is one of my two favorite in the Valley, and the other place doesn't offer squid, but it's a must for me. It's always fresh and I love whatever sauce they add to it. 5+!
