Open for Dine-in and Take Out, Thurs - Sun 5 pm to 7:15 pm
Since 1989 for a reason! This place is an institution without the pretense. Lake City doesn’t have much for good food, so this place does standout, but not for that reason alone. This place is an old school homey destination. Cozy warm atmosphere. Great food. Friendly service. I was one of the first parties to be seated. Those that came in afterwards were greeted with hugs and happy new year cheers. Wow! Talk about being a neighborhood kind of place. Love it just like the food

This place has been on our list for a while and we're so happy we came! We went on a Saturday and got in a little after 5 pm with no wait time to sit. Food came out fast and everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and some of the best quality we've had. The rainbow maki was delicious and the portions were impressive. We were treated with ice cream at the end of the meal on the house, which was so kind of the owner! We'll definitely be back. Tip: we parked in the lot behind the restaurant

Super cute family run restaurant. By far the best sushi I have ever had and only made better by the dining experience and the wonderful service. Worth showing up early because they are super popular and often have a wait list but it is so so worth it.

We came in 5 minutes before 5 pm on a Friday and there were 2 groups in front of us. We were seated right away when they opened around 5pm. They updated the prices so check out the menu photo I posted. Here's my honest review:
Food:
- Sushi Assortment: The presentation looked colorful and appealing BUT the sushi lacked freshness and had an unpleasant fishy odor, indicating poor quality or improper storage/defrosting process. The assortment came with 6 pieces of spicy tuna roll which was good but I prefer fresh sushi rolls because seasoned sushi is generally not fresh.
- Creamy Scallop Maki Roll: Like other rolls, this was heavily sauced, masking the natural flavors of the scallop and maybe the freshness.
- Spider Roll: Deep fried crab roll. This was the most decent food we've ordered. Again, I don't prefer getting deep-fried or heavily seasoned rolls at a sushi restaurant because they don't use the freshest ingredients in those rolls. But this restaurant did not offer fresh rolls outside of their sashimi menu.
- Complementary Appetizers (Creamy Udon and Miso Soup): udon noodles were also disappointingly brittle and were probably cooked way in advance. The miso soup was a typical out-of-box soup.
- Hot Sake: this helped me gulp down low-grade sushi better. The cups were larger than the other places.
Service:
The staff provided attentive service, consistently refilling water and delivering food promptly. However, the payment process raised some red flags. They only accept Zelle, Venmo, or cash. For venmo, they request you to pay as "friends". Also the check came on a note that's illegible, making it harder to confirm what you ordered.
Ambiance:
The restaurant's atmosphere is probably the best thing out of this restaurant. It showcased owner's history with pictures and decorations. There were enough sushi counter seating and 8-10 tables. The tables were spaced out enough so that I didn't feel crowded.
Overall, no I would never come back. Honestly, I don't know how they made it to must-visit sushi places in Seattle list. Save yourself a visit.

They give complimentary miso soup & udon salad as soon as you get seated which were pretty good to start with. Sushi assortment is definitely worth the money and has huge portion. Very fresh and savory.
They don’t accept credit card so you have to make e-payment and get it confirmed to a server. But on our way out after finishing all that, another server held us back and asked for a payment confirmation which made us quite unhappy.

This is my favorite restaurant in Seattle! I love to go for special occasions and date night. We always order takoyaki, an array of our favorite nigiri, and hot sake. The complimentary miso soup and crab salad was a delicious surprise when we visited for the first time, and it never disappoints. This is a family-owned business that has been operating for over 30 years. The atmosphere is wonderful, and it is bustling with energy from the moment they open their doors. Toyoda Sushi has been my favorite sushi restaurant in WA state for more than a decade now, and even through the dark times of COVID lockdown, they have maintained that status without any challenge.
Their sushi is fresh and incredible, sliced experertly with perfect sushi rice. So many sushi restaurants either have too much rice for each piece of nigiri or cut the fish too thick to compensate, and sushi rice will make or break nigiri. Attention to detail truly is key to great sushi.
Not only is their sushi incredible, but they make all of my favorite cooked Japanese dishes exactly how they should be. The gyoza is delicious, flavorful, and properly pan-searered, the karaage is juicy, perfectly breaded, and properly crispy, and if you haven't tried their black cod kasuzuke, you truly are missing out. Perfectly broiled, getting the right amount of carmelization on the marinade, while still keeping the black cod tender, juicy, and flaky.
For dessert, their tempura ice cream is a real standout. They use a blueberry muffin inspired tempura batter that stays light and crispy, and provides the perfect amount of sweetness to the dish.
Whether you're looking for your favorite Japanese offerings, or their unique creations, like their complimentary noodle salad and the Jimmy's special roll, Toyoda has exactly what you need.
Note that Toyoda is cash only, and the hours are limited, but any perceived inconvenience is far outweighed by the amazing food and the kind of service you can only get from a family owned and operated restaurant in such a delightful, intimate space.
(My apologies about the mediocre photo. I forgot to take any pictures before we went to town on all the delicious food!)

I ate at Toyoda Sushi for the first time last week. Have eaten at many local and international sushi places, but this will be the only place I would want to ever eat sushi again. Super clean, very cozy, and a welcoming atmosphere by the Toyoda family as if i was family. From the poke bowl, the various rolls to the saki marinated blackened cod. No words could describe how good it really was. Putting soy sauce, ginger, or Wasabi on anything I feel would be an insult to the perfect texture and freshness to the art I was served. Finished with the tempura fried ice cream, it was phenomenal. Very fair priced for quality. The only thing I would want to see different is to be open more hours of the week. However, that would explain for the quality and care of food that I was served. Can't wait until my next visit!!!!

Toyoda San is the best in the area hands down. A little biased as I've been a regular for almost 30 years. Sushi/sashimi is always on point but the kitchen also serves up wonderful Japanese fare.

Amazing service and food! Have not had this good sushi other than during our Japan trip. One of the best negi toro maki and sashimi (we tried the sashimi dinner) I have ever had! A must try! We went here twice in a week! Also love their Miso soup!
FYI remember it’s cash or Venmo only, so plan accordingly!

I would be shocked and appalled by the opinions of people leaving 2 or 3 star reviews of this wonderful, magical place if I wasn't so grateful that those persnickety patrons aren't going to return and take up space at the absolute treasure that is Toyoda Sushi. No soup for you, next!
5 stars, no notes.

Sushi assortments were a big disappointment. The portion was nice yet the 50% of sushi qualities were extremely questionable. We only enjoyed half since we could tell the rest weren't fresh. These were dry and tasteless. We spent $200 for two of us and it was the saddest dinner ever.

They charged $5 per ginger we requested. Illegible check with charges for certain items above the listed price on menu, all hidden behind illegible, handwritten bill. Elderly server lady who seems to run the restaurant is discriminatory and rude. This business runs on regular customers mostly. Dont waste your time and money

Our family of 4 went at the opening time on a Sunday. There were a couple groups waiting outside in line ahead of us. Sushi and sashimi were fresh and good except for the tako sashimi (too vinegary). It was very pricey but I would visit again when I want to have good sushi and sashimi!!

We love Toyoda Sushi and have been going there for years! Everything we have ever tried is delicious and fresh and miso soup and udon salad comes with every meal. The restaurant is small and cozy and sometimes there is a line out the door - but don't worry - the food is worth the wait! The staff treats everyone like family and the community clearly loves them - as evidenced by the years of family Christmas cards, birthday and graduation announcements from regulars papering the entrance! Can't recommend Toyoda Sushi enough!

We have been enjoying dinner at Toyoda Sushi for 26 years, ever since we had to apologize for all the rice our 2-year-old had scattered on the floor. Over the years, the quality and service of this welcoming and cozy restaurant have been exceptional. The staff have become friends with us, as they have with many of their regulars. We don't mind paying cash or using a payment app because we understand that the fees banks charge for credit card services are a burden to small businesses and the cost is often passed on to the customer. It's best if we all work to keep costs down so that everyone can enjoy this great place.

THE best sushi in Seattle. We've been to most of the big name sushi spots and while good, they don't compare to the quality, price, and care of Toyoda. Do not skip on the unagi and be sure to order the Jimmy Special, too. Toyoda-san is a community gem and this family run business is not to be missed.

Toyoda is one of those rare magical places that make you feel like you were invited to dinner by longtime friends. They greet you warmly, treat you like they know you (and soon enough they do.) And then serve you some of the best sushi you'll ever eat. My family and I have been coming here for decades. And whil"e many great sushi restaurants come and go, Toyoda has been consistently among the best in town.

We LOVE Toyoda Sushi!!! We have been patronizing this restaurant for almost 20 years, but this is the first review. What we love is the amazing service. If it is slammed or slow, the servers work as a coordinated team, caring for each person in the establishment. But the most amazing thing is the food. The sushi is ALWAYS fresh, always exactly.what you expect, and is a taste sensation! The rolls and nigiri are carefully made and artistically presented. We have had sushi from a lot of local establishments, and this is by far one of the best. Thank you, Toyoda, for making this one of our special places to go. We look forward to it each and every time!
* My daughter wants me to add that the noodle appetizer is absolutely the very best thing and what she looks forward to the most!

I have heard so much about this place -- the quality of the sushi and the hospitality of the family! We came here around 7 and got immediately seated. The crab salad and miso soup were great starters. We ordered the nigiri of fresh salmon, chutoro, and the scallops and the negitoro roll.... Completely amazing and the way all just melt in your mouth.

Can't recommend enough! Absolutely fantastic spot for both causal and fancy occasions. Staff is so incredibly kind and down to earth, and will serve you some of the best miso soup there is in the Seattle area. If you don't normally like miso, still give it a try! Chances are you'll like it :) Crab salad that goes alongside it is also amazing! Always fresh and cold.
Wait times , even with a full house are always short! Accidentally got served a catepillar sushi that was for another table, but they let us have it on the house! (Thank you so, so much!) Meals are always very reasonably priced - feeding 3 for below a hundred is rare these days. They currently don't take card, so if you're planning to visit (which you absolutely should, hell, I'd give you five dollars just to go try it) bring cash or have Venmo or Zelle at the ready. Go try 'em! You will have an amazing experience every time, hands down.
Thank you so much for your hospitality and amazing service, Toyoda! We love you so much! ♥️

The fish quality was horrific. It was disgusting and extremely overpriced to boot. How was every piece so fishy that I felt like I was licking the bottom of a fisherman's boot. I genuinely believe this place must pay for fake reviews or they were scammed by their fish monger. Told the server the food was disgusting because they asked why my friend and I didn't even eat half of their sashimi platter and she just looked at me and said that not everyone likes raw fish. Told her that my friend and I both love raw fish but only when its quality was okay and I didn't worry I was going to get sick eating it. The server then did not come back for 20 mins but they wanted to chase me out the door to make sure I paid because they only accept card payments via Venmo. If you worry so much about getting paid for your shitty food then maybe take card. I actively tell everyone I know NOT to go here. Don't make the same mistake I did, just go to a cheaper place because it will be better!

Toyota Sushi is a gem in our community! As a family-owned business, they truly go above and beyond to make every visit special. Their food is consistently amazing, with fresh ingredients and beautifully crafted dishes that never disappoint. Toyoda Sushi is a hidden gem in Seattle, offering some of the best sushi in the city. It’s a cozy, family-owned spot that’s all about fresh, high-quality fish without any fuss.
The sushi here is fantastic. The sashimi, especially the salmon and tuna, is incredibly fresh and melts in your mouth. The nigiri is perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of seasoned rice and delicious fish. The unagi (eel) nigiri is a standout—sweet, tender, and full of flavor.
The rolls are also great, with the Spicy Tuna Roll and Dragon Roll being top picks. Everything tastes super fresh, and the chefs clearly care about what they’re doing.
What really makes Toyoda special is the friendly service. The staff is warm and welcoming, treating you like family whether it’s your first time or you’re a regular. It’s a simple, no-frills place where the focus is on great sushi.
Prices are reasonable for the quality, making it a great value. If you’re in Seattle and love sushi, Toyoda Sushi is a must-visit.

Dishonest business has a pattern of overcharging customers with their handwritten and illegible bills. The prices on the itemized bills are very often higher than the menu price. Just look at the reviews and see how often this happens.
Stop believing these high ratings on Google Maps. It’s such a scam.

I really want to like this place, sushi was fresh and pretty big pieces but way over priced. Not even Seattle standard over price. Thus the 3 stars.
My bottle of beer was $15.95. After I poured out half a glass, saw a bug in it, unsure if it fell in or came with the glass.
The waiter only replaced with a clean glass…thus the 3 stars.
Tiny spider roll was $18.95.
Final bill came, did not list out the prices on the bill and was $2 more than what it was suppose to be. The waitress did make adjustment after we told her about it.

I recently dined at Toyoda Sushi and, unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered the spicy tuna bowl, which was quite disappointing. The presentation was unappetizing, the taste was equally unpleasant, with the tuna having an overpowering spiciness that did not complement the fish.
Additionally, the salmon sashimi was extremely fishy. This further added to my disappointment with the meal.
The seating area was also a major issue. Our group of five was squeezed into a table meant for four, and our chairs were touching those at the table behind us. This made for an uncomfortable dining experience.

Great little sushi spot in Seattle for mid-price sushi.
We ordered the sushi special which comes with 16 pieces of nigiri and sushi rolls. Had a wide variety of fish to salmon, tuna, fatty tuna, scallops, and other classics. They also give a noodle salad and miso soup as appetizers. Nigiri felt fresh, the right amount of wasabi, and rice wasn't over powering.
For dessert we had the deep fried ice cream shared between 3 people but it also can serve 4. It was delicious, it had blueberry muffin for the crust with vanilla ice cream. Highly recommend.
Definitely get here early as there was a line before opening.

Went at 5:30 on a weeknight. Decent food the day we went but they have a BIG menu and rushed us to order every 30 seconds after seating. We passed by Toyoda sushi at 5:15pm and saw no line. We were shocked! We pulled into the nearest parking spot, ran to the restaurant, and we got seated right away. We ordered the chef’s choice sushi assortment, the prawn and vegetable tempura, Jimmy’s roll, and the rainbow maki.
The quality of fish is superior and we haven’t had sushi this fresh in years. While everything was excellent in quality and taste, the rainbow maki blew me out of the water! In the chef’s selection of sushi, we got some pieces of a roll and one of them, the saba with ginger and green onion, was EXCELLENT!
We were so excited when all the sushi came out that we only got pics of some of our order, it was all too good to stop and take a pic.
We will be back!

An intimate sushi spot! They have been in business for over 20 years. It is family owned and operated and it clearly shows the family has a passiok for great food and service. The sushi is fresh and absolutely amazing! I loved the tuna maki roll. Service was quick, efficient and they continued to check on us in that Goldilocks way-not too often and didn’t leave us looking around trying to flag a server down. Reasonably priced for a Seattle based restaurant. They open the doors at five pm and it’s first come first serve. There were about 8 people lined up at 4:45pm. They do to-go orders. They close at 7:30. Cash or Venmo only. No credit cards. The restaurant seats abojt 30-40 people. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for sushi that’s authentic, delicious, and fresh.

I'm curious why you always respond to favorable reviews but never respond to negative feedback. This says much about this establishment.
Visited 9 months ago
Every time I visit this restaurant, the sushi is always fresh, and they serve the most delicious spicy tuna I have ever tasted. I have read the negative reviews, and all I can say is that there are always two sides to every story. I have personally witnessed how rude some customers can be. Sushi is an expensive dish, and if you are not willing to pay the price, then you should either stay home or go catch your own fish. Also, if part of parenting wasn't teaching how to be respectful and humble, don't go out, and businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone who does not know how to respect their stablishment and their staff. Don't ever think you are better than others because life will show you some justice!

I can't say enough about how amazing Toyoda Sushi is. Everything that I ordered or sampled in both my first and second visit was phenomenal. The atmosphere is so incredibly warm and relaxed, with such gorgeous interior decoration. Service is unparalleled, our server even remembered us from our last visit a couple months ago. In the Seattle area, there is never a shortage of fresh seafood, but for sushi, this is always at the top of my list when I am in town.

Dishonest business. Never in my life felt this awful and scammed spending my money at a restaurant. Beyond terrible customer service by server lady running service, never seen a sushi restaurant charge $5 for ginger, 40+ min wait for 16 pieces of nigiri. When we got our bill we obviously wanted to ensure it doesn’t include what we cancelled. Itemized bill was not legible as shown nor were numbers adding up. Requested a comprehensible itemized bill, different younger male server says “I don’t know”. New bill shows price of tempura that doesn’t match (+$10ish) the price on menu. It also shows $15 charge for three requests for more ginger. We felt scammed. Owner seems to believe because the business has customers not all customers matter. Like this they will lose more.

The place feels like it's a part of the community. Amazing food and I love that they don't accept card or have a POS system. They are doing things their way and they are winning. Keep it up Toyoda.

Perfect casual, family owned sushi spot. Although the hours are limited, it’s worth making the visit here for the delicious sushi, large portions, reasonable prices and friendly, cheerful atmosphere.
This place had some of the best spicy tuna I’ve had. The Jimmy Special was a treat. The nigiri was fresh and delicious. My favorite was the ama ebi! The tempura ice cream was the perfect dessert.
Best of all, the owners have integrity and won’t dime and nickel you. They suggested we share one large beer instead of ordering to separate ones because it would be cheaper. We sat at the bar and got a sample on the house because they made too much for someone else.

I came here three times and always spent more than $200 for two people. I usually get a lot of a la carte sushi but this time I tried ordering rolls as well. And was shocked by the size of the spider roll which was $20 including tax. I mean I did ask for no cucumber but there is barely anything in it. I had to double check with the server if it is the right one and they said its expensive because they put one whole crab leg. I mean so as the other sushi places? Aside from that I understand it was a busy time and people were waiting outside, but you cant bring the bill up to the customers when they are still working on their food. I waited over 30min for my food and was given less than 15 min before they brought up the bill. I do want to support local stores and stuff but no this is not the place. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Toyoda is a gem of a home. An extremely generous and memorable spot, goto for freshness, taste, and welcoming vibe in the PNW. Been back a number of times, packed in tight at the bar or early at the tables. Toyoda and their extended family do not disappoint. Historic and legendary with awesomely delish portions of nigiri and truly top of class Saba which is an all time fave. Thank you Helen and fam for all the good food and memories!!

It's a busy and bustling place with happy people eating good food.
The sushi is generously cut fresh, delicious. The prices reflect the quality. Large sushi platter is $60 and comes with 13 pieces plus a six piece roll. Two of the 13 pieces are the egg pieces that are often associated with dessert.
The shrimp and vegetable tempura with sushi is a good combination for $35. It comes with two maki rolls and the tempura is at least two pieces of shrimp and a platter of vegetables.
Next to the table ordered the large sashimi platter, it looked absolutely delicious. I'm going to try that next time.
Came with a complementary noodle salad as well as miso soup with seaweed and tofu.
There are approximately eight seats at the bar, it's a popular place to sit. Street parking is challenging sometimes around dinner because it's free, try the parking lot back behind the restaurant.

Only liked the sashimi platter. Calamari was overcooked . Staff kept forgetting to get us ginger and water, we had asked 3 times. Probably wont return as the space is also very crowded and tiny.

I ordered beef sukiyaki. Had high expectations especially for $40. Was a very huge let down. Lots of onions and very small portion of beef. Beef was not tender and dry, I think overcooked. In total paid $130+ for 2 people (tax and tip included). Overpriced for the quality of food.

Another reels recommendation. Cash and Venmo only
We live in issaquah so this place is quite the trek. My partner was particularly drawn in by the oversized roll with a variety of fish.
Maybe I picked the wrong menu items, but overall not sure what the hype is about. The oversized roll is 30$+ so it’s not like it’s cheaper on a per serving basis.
The fish was also so cold to the point where it hurt my teeth to eat (I do have sensitive teeth, but I’ve never had trouble with sushi before). Having so many different fish in a roll meant I couldn’t actually taste the individual flavors very well. I’m also not a fan of raw green onions paired with sushi.
The other rolls also weren’t anything special. We got a scallop nigiri which was good tho.
Overall probably won’t be driving an hour to come here again.

Owner was extremely rude, even yelled at her staff in front of us. I will never go back here! Food is ok but very expensive and to be treated so horribly why would I give them my money. Oh and tip is included so you end up tipping for owners horrible service. I feel so bad for her employees why does anyone eat or work there, disgusting to mistreat people who are trying to do their job.

My friends and I kept it simple with a regular sushi assortment for each person. It was a heck of a lot of food per person. We were able to pick the type of fish used in the roll, which was nice. The nigiri cuts were crazy thick. You definitely get your money worth. I just wished they would have walked us through what each cut was. Great experience, great food. I will definitely be back.

This spot has that cozy Japanese home-style vibe, perfect for catching up with a small crew (four max, I'd say). We ordered three classic Japanese dishes to go with our drinks.
Sashimi: The platter was a feast for the eyes and the taste great! Fresh and generous portions – definitely a winner.
Chicken Katsu: The chicken was really tough and not juicy. Same goes for cabbage slaw - not sweet and crunchy.
Beef Sukiyaki: This pot was all veggies and noodles, with maybe four slices of beef on top. The onions weren't caramelized, so sukiyaki was basically a soy sauce favor without natural sweetness of the onions. We also ordered three bowls of rice – not the moisture and tenderness we were hoping for.
Skip the table nearby the exit. I think sitting at the bar would be great, just front-row seats to enjoy chef's energetic and friendly vibes, and maybe stick with seafood and appetizers next time.

My recent dining experience at a restaurant was quite disappointing. The service was slow, the staff seemed indifferent, and the food quality fell short of expectations. Overall, it was not a pleasant visit, and I wouldn't recommend this place to others.

Great sushi, best to be there at least 10 minutes or so before it opens, there's always a huge line.
The sushi is some of the best I have had in the area. Also the location is very cozy feeling, and service is very good.

The sushi was good but everything else we ordered was forgettable. The no credit card policy is a pain and we were unhappy with the service. The bill is not itemized so we were confused if the tip was already included or not. Overall if you are purely looking for a sushi fix this place is good, but there were enough things that were frustrating as part of the whole dining experience.

Food:
Good deal for sashimi; huge slices. Fresh but not amazing. Taste-wise, rolls are better. Get the rolls.
Service:
Owner lady is a bit intense and intimidating in her effort to attend to tables in the small and bustling place, but other waiters are nice.
Atmosphere:
Cozy and bustling. Haven’t seen such a busy little shop like NYC here in Seattle before.

A true hole-in-the-wall, we had a fantastic dinner at Toyoda. The fish was top quality, the portions were generous, the staff was friendly, and the sushi chefs were lightning fast. I had the sushi plate and a couple pieces in particular tasted so much like they were right out of the ocean that I immediately triggered fond memories of sailing. It felt like the moment with the food critic in Ratatouille. I honestly almost cried.
This immediately joined our list of top sushi restaurants in the area and we'll definitely be back. Be aware, this restaurant is cash, Venmo, or Zelle only.

Incredible place, limited hours of operation but feels comfortable and homey while turning things around incredibly quickly. The rainbow Maki roll was good but not great, while the sushi dinner and karaage were excellent. Had a great carafe of sake as well.

I don’t expect the fabulous of food when my friend invited me to joined dinner in this restaurant. I have been travel to Japan and have many sushi experiences but here, they surprised me with beyond my experience with sushi I ever had. Fresh and quality fish I ever tasted. For sure, I will go back again.

We used to dine here often pre-pandemic and enjoyed the food. The service is not what it used to be and they include a 25% tip in the bill (which is not itemized) without alerting you ahead of time. My husband’s meal came out 20+ minutes after ours and his poke bowl leftovers were dumped in a piece of foil. Really disappointing experience.

Get here early! This place fills up fast and stays busy the entire time. They have pretty limited hours, but it is worth it! Was not expecting to find a sushi experience like this in Lake City, but after having dined here, it's no wonder that they're a treasured establishment. We ordered a bunch of things to try, and the chef also snuck in a few extra items for us. The standout for us was the saba maki (mackerel roll), and the salmon skin hand roll. There's nowhere else with a mackerel roll like that. I forgot to take pics before we started eating bc it was so alluring. Be aware that they accept cash or Venmo only, cash preferred.

Update July 2023: I'm leaving this at 5 stars, although it's weaker than before. The food is still great, and well worth the money and the wait. Last time we had the sushi combination, poke, and udon, and they were all great. The complementary noodles are very creamy, and it would be nice to offer an option as nobody in our party liked them. But the quirks are quite frustrating - they don't allow reservation, don't take credit cards, and when I got the bill this time, they had just written the total on a piece of paper without itemizing, and casually mentioned that they had already added the tip (around 20%).
(old review: 2017) I've been here more than 10 times and the food has been great every time. Favorites: Sushi selection, poke bowl - portion sizes are generous in both and the can easily be shared.

I finally got to try this Sushi place and I must say it lived up to the expectations. Their hours are limited but definitely worth trying. Sushi was very fresh and totally delicious. Best sushi in north Seattle area by far. Black cod was really good. You can tell their fish and seafood is fresh! Will be returning soon if I can make it on a day they are open.

The first time I visited Toyoda I sat at the sushi bar and sat next to a gentleman who sat in the corner near the door. After asking if he came here often, he said “I come here every day it’s open.”
Literally every single day?!?! Yes, he responded saying “What… I like fish.” Okay, I clearly found a die hard fan of Toyoda 🤣
After a couple of visits I have a pretty good understanding of the quality of food and how this restaurants operates (generally speaking).
Here are some of my thoughts:
1. The food is CONSISTENTLY exceptional. You go to some restaurants and sometimes its great and sometimes it’s okay. Toyoda’s quality of fish and food is always extremely high. You can tell they care just as much about the ingredients as they do about their clients. I don’t leave reviews for restaurants if they are just okay or above average. Just find out for yourself and taste the wonders of Toyoda!
2. It’s basically a family run restaurant. The owners are so kind and warm, and they never skimp out on portions. They always give you way more than you expect. I love this generosity. You rarely see this in the food industry.
3. They take venmo or cash only. No reservations. Also, their hours are extremely limited. I think they are open for only 3 hours so it gets very crowded. Like I mentioned, there are some die hard fans. I’m afraid of too many people coming after I post this but I just have to because I feel like I owe it to them. Okay that’s all folks. Hope you have an almost religious like experience at Toyoda 🙏

The food is OK. Service is subpar: no credit/debit cards accepted; if paying with Zelle you are under suspicion to be a thieve until you prove otherwise. Atmosphere of a cheap low-fi eatery. The price is absolutely inadeqate.

Small sushi joint that packs a lot of punch. Toyoda stocks all the good fish, and they are fresh. The only complaint I have is the wait can be a bit long as they don't take reservations. You put your name on the sheet and wait to be called. However, the price is fair, so I can't complain too much. We'll be back!

We were craving for sushi and this name popped up. This place gives you a very homely vibe. We were sat immediately and were served complimentary miso soup and white noodle salad. Those noodles were heavenly and I finished them in a jiffy. The sweet server noticed it and served me one more bowl. We got chicken karaage, octopus fried balls and prawn and spicy tuna sushi. The sushi roll fell apart but it was tasty. The fried octopus was really good. The chicken was crisp. The only thing that I didn’t like is that they only accept cash and venmo.

Summary: Service rude and fish poor, especially rude from theh older woman who runs the floor. I have been coming to Toyoda for over 25 years and it has been slowly going downhill and is finally not much more of a sushi experience than that at a strip mall or supermarket. The problem is two-fold, firstly the service away from the sushi bar was always sketchy, with tattered receipts that were sometimes wrong, servers that were uninformed about the menu and missed orders, or even able to explain the basics of sake. And when crowded the staff was overwhelmed and the noise level such that it wasn't a quality experience, it was more like a bus stop. And finally the quality of the sushi and preparation has gone downhill. The pieces may be big but the fish sometime ragged and not up to top chef quality. It makes me sad to say this but I won't be going back, I like an authentic sushi experience and that is no longer the experience at Toyoda.

Toyoda’s is my favorite sushi place in the Seattle area. It’s family owned and ran, and it shows that they really care. I feel like part of the family. The food is amazing. The fish is fresh. Though don’t get poke unless you want to never want be satisfied with poke at other places.
The tempura fried ice cream is quite the treat.

The poke is phenomenal! My favorite sushi place in Seattle. It is a family run restaurant. The food is more traditional Japanese sushi than most places in Seattle. So if you looking for special fufu rolls this isn’t the spot. But the sushi rice is wonderfully season and prepared correctly. The fish is fresh and delicious.

1) no credit, only cash or Venmo or Zelle, no itemized receipts, had to debate with servers as to the price of items and the final cost, servers upset when I ask for clarifications on items cost and am not willing to just blindly pay the final number they present
2) they did not bring out one of the items I ordered
3) they prioritize takeout orders
4) their Venmo stipulations are to send between “friends” they don’t have to report total income
5) when I asked to get the Venmo approved the server spilled hot tea on my legs

The food was great, the guys preparing food at the bar were fantastic and wonderful quality work and food. The older lady serving around the room and bringing out other cooked food from the kitchen was very grumpy and didn't seem like she wanted to be working there.
It would be nice if paying for food was simpler such as taking cards and real receipts rather than chicken scratch on a slip that doesn't make any sense. No option to pay at a register either.
