Sleek Japanese restaurant offering dramatic cooking at hibachi grill tables plus a sushi bar.
We went to Sakura as it was convenient, basically opposite the Hampton Inn where we were staying. We did not expect much when we went, but while waiting we noticed it was really busy for take-away. The atmosphere was also really nice. It seems to be a popular place.
All I can say is I was really surprised at just how good the food quality was, the sushi was excellent and not only was it delicious and high quality, it was also good value for money.
I would certainly recommend having a meal here.

This was really good, came in not knowing what to expect and grabbed a table. However, looks like they have a small sushi conveyor bar, and a Hibachi table as well. Both of which I'll have to try in the future. The chicken Bento I got was really good, and a very large portion. I recommend!

We walked in and waited at the front for several minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We asked for a table for 6 and she said it would take her a minute to set it up. She then stood there chatting with another hostess for 10 minutes before going to the empty table and placing a few plates and drinks on the table. A different hostess walked us back to the table. We had to ask for a rag to clean spills off the chairs. She handed us a dry towel and walked away. The waitress was ok but never came around and we had to hunt her down several times. It took 20 minutes after we indicated we were done for them to do the check. It was dirty, slow, disrespectful, and mediocre food. They then added gratuity automatically to the check despite splitting the check three ways. They don't deserve your money.

The conveyor sushi was our reason for stopping in to try this restaurant on our way home to Canada. We sat at the bar with the sushi going by in front of us. The selection was good and the food was fresh. The chefs were preparing more plates as we ate. We noticed families sitting at tables coming up to the conveyor to select plates and take them back to their tables. We also ordered appetizer tempura which was served hot and fresh. Behind us, a group was having a fun experience at the large sit down table with the chef in the middle cooking. There’s a lot of options in this restaurant! It is a bit tired looking inside, but all looked very clean.
When we asked for bill we found that we’d been charged a dollar less for each plate than advertised pricing and so we’re guessing that we hit a happy hour or something. We visited at 2:30pm and it wasn’t that busy.

Absolutely loved our hibachi dinner at Sakura! We started with a few sushi rolls, the hurricane roll was super delicious & plenty for 2 people to share! Ordered shrimp & crab sushi for our 7 year old who loved them & especially loved the miso soup & using chopsticks for her sushi ☺️🥢 We loved our salad & soup & our hibachi dinner was truly delicious! We got steak/salmon & steak/chicken & both were excellent plus it was literally 2 meals, so we packed up our left overs & will have them for lunch today! Great value honestly. We loved the staff, they were super attentive, friendly & on top of service! 💯 10/10 recommend hibachi & sushi at Sakura! Also loved the atmosphere & they were playing great music which is always nice when dining! Bathrooms were clean & stocked & the whole restaurant was well kept up. Going back soon! 🔥🍱🍣🍜

Great dinner. Did not know this place was her and was suggested by some co workers. We started with a tuna roll, a dragon roll, and a California roll. The sushi was very good, although the meal was large and we probably did not need them. But they were worth it.
For dinner my wife had the salmon, my mother had the steak and shrimp, my
9 year old daughter had the kids shrimp, and I had the filet lignin and shrimp. The portions were very generous. The meal
Started with some fried rice (a lot of fried rice) and some grilled vegetables.
The cook was very entertaining, and made our meal enjoyable. He had a great sense of humor. Had planned on having dessert but we all ended up taking about half of our meal home.
The restaurant was clean and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I am sure we will go back again.
We were one of the first parties there (4 of us). Was glad my friends had recommended reservations, because by the time we left the restaurant was filling up.

The food tasted good enough but I got severe food poisoning from this place. I'm fairly sure it was the Wasabi. I hadn't eaten anything else that day. I've been sick for 2 days after my meal there. On top of that the lady at the front who greets people seems very unprofessional but maybe she had a bad day idk.

Been here 3 times and the sushi has really always just been bland and not very fresh looking. The lighting and smoke makes the place feel like an emergency could break out any moment. Their HVAC is more cooked than their hibachi.
Really wanted to like this place and tried it enough times to say this just ain't it. It's also pretty expensive for safeway pre-prep food.

First time I went pretty decent. Wait times long. Second time I went we ask for hibachi and after like four families going before us I just said “its okay we will take a table” stupid fat hostess lady; with smile on her face was like “oooh we’re out of tables”
That was just rude. Have the day you deserve. (I even said when we walked in. If you can’t do hibachi just let me know)

The service was great, and some of the sauces they used on the food were good. I really like the fried rice and the yakisoba. The sushi was mediocre at best... The sushi rice was actually a bit dry too to be honest (and it wasn't even from the conveyor belt). The chicken in the teriyaki wasn't so good; it seemed low quality and overcooked. I also had some miso soup which tasted pretty good. All in all, the prices were a bit high for what you get. The portions are large, but wished they cared about quality a bit more. Their flavors are more similar to traditional Japanese food, which I really enjoy more than the typical teriyaki restaurant. I just wish that there was more attention to quality, especially for the price you pay on the food.

The same server ( dirty blonde, Jennifer) ruins our visit every time we come by. The first incident is when she had put us on the waiting list to be seated and completely forgot about us. 1 hour later we decided to come ask about the wait. The second time, she was coughing all over the clean dishes and the drink station without covering her mouth. We left immediately. She has been rude Every time we interact with her. Please do something about this! We love the restaurant and the food. But we will not be returning until she is gone.

This restaurant is is not good quality food. One bite of the sushi made me feel sick. The fish wasn’t cold, it was smothered in sauce and tasted like grocery store sushi. The chicken teriyaki was bland and once again, smothered in sauce. I left thoroughly disappointed. Also, there is no steak on the menu, it is not a steak house. I don’t know why they would advertise as such.

This place was (( THE PLACE !! )) to go for fresh, amazing and delicious sushi, but in the last year, WOW this place has gone downhill and for the worst. Everything is different, the customer service, the food and now it's overpriced. Unfortunately I will not be going to Sakura again. 🙁🙁

Conveyor belt sushi! Haven't seen one of these in years. Not since the last time I was in Washington before COVID actually. We don't seem to have this up in BC. It was very quiet on a Wednesday afternoon but the server was attentive and the food was pretty good.
I'll likely return.
Update: A dollar off each plate of conveyor belt sushi before 3pm on weekdays! So worth it!

We've had nothing but really good meals here. Mostly the teppenyaki or the sushi bar. The teppenyaki tables are more for the entertainment value than anything (IMO) but all of the food delivered off the grill has been good. Same with the sushi conveyor. Plenty of variety, reasonably priced, and tastes great. If I was going to nitpick the sushi bar, it would be about all the sauces put on the sushi. Just way too much for my tastes. I'd rather have less sauce and let the sushi stand on its own. I'm a big fan of nigiri and sashimi so I'll usually order a couple of plates from their sushi menu. Quite a bit more expensive than the conveyor, but the flavor is worth the extra cost. Their servers are good. That can also be problematic for some people. Their visits to the table or the sushi bar are infrequent and I love not being hovered over. Many people want to have assistance from a server, and when they look for theirs, they're unhappy when they're not immediately available. I'm okay with that, I understand timing is everything (my wife is a server so I know how busy they can be even if you can't see them).

We came here for a dinner date but just walking in the door you can see the whole restraunt and the place seems a bit run down and not the pretty atmosphere we were hoping for. Honestly though we did not eat here only because we did not make reservations for the hibachi grill and we were on a time crunch, so that was our fault.
Front staff seemed kind of unfriendly too even though the place did not seem too busy or full.
Visited 9 months ago
Website does not recommend reservations. Called ahead and staff member did not recommend reservations. (We were on a TBD timeline)
When we arrived, I was asked if I had a reservation. We hostess we to ask someone else if we could be seat for Teppanyaki, and were told no. There were open tables, no wait, etc.
Disorganized, looked out of sorts, staff unprofessional, smelled like old grease. Taking my business elsewhere.

The food is decent. That's the only positive out of the whole experience.
The floors and tables are dirty and sticky.
But we will NEVER eat here again after our last experience.
We finally got to go out on a date for the first time since I had my baby and the service was terrible, we normally dont mind slow service.
We understand things happen and places get busy, but we were left waiting various times such as when we wanted our check we waited over 20 minutes. We eventually decided our waitress must be too busy and we went to the front to pay. when we paid & Tipped, the cashier made a very rude comment about my husband (she called him a loser as he turned his back to walk out) thankfully he didn't hear her. But I did and I will never allow anyone in my family or extended family eat here again.

At Sakura, my wife and I are consistently impressed by the culinary mastery showcased, particularly under the guidance of Head Sushi Chef Nicko. Nicko's skill, warmth, and meticulous attention to detail are truly commendable, particularly evident in his creation of the salmon sashimi masterpiece. The harmonious interplay of flavors, presentation, and texture in his dish is akin to a symphonic experience, embodying culinary excellence in every bite. Nicko's expertise sets a high standard for sushi craftsmanship, making him an indispensable asset to Sakura and a benchmark for sushi establishments worldwide. Our sincerest admiration and appreciation go to Nicko for his remarkable talent and dedication to his craft.

What a complicated place to review. A hibachi and a sushi bar.. if it wasnt for the hibachi chefs, this would be a 2 star review. The rest of the staff is sus af, there are one maybe two exceptions. Staff, not including chefs: 2/5. Cleanliness is a 2/5. Sushi is a 1/5. Its just weird but the food does taste good. Ive been here probably 6 times.

I don't consider this a sushi restaurant. The sushi belt wasn't monitored and the food sat for a very long time with nobody eating at the bar. The sushi belt felt like an add-on they didnt care to quality check. The salmon had essence Salmon flavor, I didn't even try the tuna. We gave it a chance and ordered a roll and even that had very little flavor. Everything tastes the same with the rolls, no flavor just mayo. The sun bleached signs on their window is a representation of how the sushi was. Just look at the picture. We went around 5pm on a Friday.

I'm not sure if we just sat in the wrong part of the restaurant, since people at the sushi bar and hot tables seemed to be having a good time, but the experience was resoundingly disappointing. Salad and miso were fine. The gyoza was bland but okay. The sushi roll I ordered was obviously not fresh (dry tuna, rice, and scallions), so I didn't touch it. The chicken and beef entree my husband ordered seemed a little over, sticky with a slight sour taste, so we ate hardly any of that either. The restaurant was super-cool looking, though. I hate to leave a bad review, but I also hate to leave a restaurant still hungry!

The sushi conveyor belt has a good selection, and there are plenty of different entree options to choose from, as well! I haven’t tried hibachi here yet, but will update if I do.

Used to be a really amazing place to dine.
My past three orders have been dry and took forever.
Also it would be nice of they stopped hiring girls with no customer service skills, I've was straight up ignored by the gal when I walked up and said I was here to pick up an order, she picked up the phone without answering me and answered a call on hold while the other girl just said 'its not ready sooooo'.
Pretty sad to see it go down hill as it was such a great place to dine.
Update: Very happy some changes were made, I stop here about once a week for take out and all the wait staff is polite and attentive now.
The quality of the food is better as well, very happy with my recent visits.

Absolutely Gross 🤢
Not only is the staff completely rude, the place is so disgusting and dirty so much so I felt like I needed to shower after leaving this place. The staff is rude and watch out for the bigger dirty blonde haired girl that looks like a greasy mess, she should be fired for her attitude and tone towards customers, it's so appalling. We only stayed and suffered through this whole experience because it was a birthday celebration. We thought we'd be getting a pleasant hibachi experience with good food and service, but we were so wrong. I wouldn't dine here again if my life depended on it. Worst experience ever, it deserves ZERO stars!!

I come here every year for my birthday because I really enjoy the food and the service, but after this year's visit I don't think I'll be coming back again in the future. The hibachi chef we got this time, while friendly, overcooked pretty much everything and nothing tasted as flavorful as it usually does. Plus the portions of meat were much smaller than they were previously. He also didn't do hardly any tricks like the other hibachi chefs, while not a deal breaker, did make me feel like he didnt know what he was fully doing. I'm alright by that, but when the food also suffers due to his inexperience then thats crossing the line for me since the food here is pretty expensive. Also since it was my birthday, I should have gotten a free dessert, and it was even listed on the bill, but I did not receive my free dessert. I'm just very disappointed, I know this place can do better.

Honestly their food is beyond good. That is the only reason I keep coming back here. If it were based off customer service I would never come here again. I've been coming once a month for 3 years and the customer service has always sucked. They're just rude and clearly don't want to be there, overwhelmed with how busy it is on the regular. I get it but perhaps find a different job.
Food is always amazing and for sushi I think the prices are good.
I recommend take out and not dine in unless you don't mind poor customer service. But even then take out is hard to order because they either don't answer or leave you on hold forever.

It's a garbage pit with no atmosphere and no interest in customer service. Rotten attitudes in the staff, worthless communication and zero care or concern. I doubt anyone could count on a decent meal here. They are located near the Sound and "ran out of sushi". This place isn't worth trying to find, let alone give them any business.

People come here for the novelty of the hibachi experience but, honestly, the rest of the menu is below cafeteria quality. Really gross and overpriced. Last time I was there I couldn't eat any of the vegetable noodles I ordered, which took about 1.5 hours for us to be seated and receive. Sticky tables, sticky menu. They do conveyer belt sushi which was incredibly underwhelming as well.

I'd like to preface with the fact that I'm not actually that picky and I've only ever wrote a couple negative reviews. That being said, this place was the worst sushi restaurant I've ever eaten at. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because the teriyaki chicken was edible. The sashimi had a fishy smell (abnormal for fresh fish) and the sushi was warm. It was NOT a fried roll. If your ingredients are being stored and held properly, the rolls will be cool/cold. This place is food poisoning waiting to happen. Eat at your own risk. Service was subpar but they were busy. Atmosphere was gross and dirty. I'm guessing it's got decent ratings on Google because there's not many good sushi restaurants around here (we're from Seattle).

This is a very casual place, not elegant in the least. There are containers of chopsticks on the table, with containers of wasabi. Far from a fine dining atmosphere. The place seems to be run by young women who don't make much effort on eye contact or engagement. The food was good to very good, but not excellent.

I would like to preface this with the fact that I am a trained and Red Seal Certified Chef from Vancouver, Canada and I rarely leave reviews after negative dining experiences due to wanting to give the cooks the benefit of the doubt on them maybe having an off day.
Appetizers:
We were initially trying to figure out our order for appetizers and the server asked if we had decided but we told them we needed just a couple minutes and we would be ready. 5 minutes go by and our server had also been off looking after a party at the Hibachi but after taking their drink orders bypassed us and went over behind the bar to make their drinks which took another 10 minutes. When they finally returned to take our order we told them that we would like our appetizers first to which they acknowledged. We ordered some Egg rolls, gyoza, and edamame as well as some miso soup. Most of which came out either with or after our entree’s.
The egg rolls lacked flavour and tasted mostly of oil which was not horrible but definitely not good either and the sauce was this mildly sweet but mostly flavourless and a very bright red and obviously artificial in colour. 2/5
The Gyoza were all in all pretty good and one of the highlights of all the food we tasted. They still could have used more seasoning on the filling and the sauce was good but could have been improved by better balancing of the flavour. 4/5
Edamame is pretty simple, it didn’t taste or look bad so no major complaints there. Maybe more salt but that’s it. 4/5
Miso Soup came out on time with no issues. The flavour of it was good but overall not very special. 3/5
Entrees:
Our Entrees came out is a reasonable amount of time after our server put our orders in. We ordered chicken teriyaki, pork teriyaki, and sushi rolls.
The pork teriyaki was decent. The port was definitely overcooked but was cut thin enough to somewhat disguise it. The sauce was very underwhelming. It was this strange mix of too salty but not seasoned well while also tasting like it was burnt. I made the assumption that the sauce is pre-made and heated up in a thin bottomed pot which caused it to burn and no one in the back noticed or didn’t care. There was almost no flavour to tell me what it was, it certainly didn’t taste like teriyaki. 3/5
Sushi rolls were also not bad. The imitation crab mixture was well seasoned and had that nice creamy texture that you would want from a California roll. The crunch california roll was good as well though I would probably opt for a higher heat for less time in the fryer so that it doesn’t heat the roll all the way through as imitation crab gets a weird texture when it’s warm. Spicy tuna was also done well, maybe chopped up a bit too much because it was almost like a paste which isn’t the most pleasant texture but the flavour was good. All in all for sushi, it was decent and I would have it again in a pinch. 4/5
Now the worst of all, the teriyaki chicken. This was not good in the slightest. The chicken was dry as a bone, completely devoid of seasoning, and covered with the same sad teriyaki sauce. It honestly gave me the impression that the cooks had given up and were only there for a pay cheque. I understand that it’s not a Michelin starred restaurant but you’ve got to take a little bit of pride in the food you put out. That is the level of food that I expect from someone who doesn’t know how to cook and is honestly embarrassing to me as a chef. I would HIGHLY recommend some changes be made to this dish. 0/5
Service:
The Service was slow and pretty uninspired. There are not many tables in there and the work load was poorly handled by the servers. A general cold and uninterested feeling came from the waitstaff. Having worked along side servers for most of my adult life I can understand how you are tired towards the end of your shift but you have to at least try. They weren’t very interested in us since there was a %20 gratuity applied to our bill no matter the service.
Environment:
The environment was not great. Confused and noisy. See pictures.

NOT family friendly. Hip hop music blaring, wait person got snarky, restrooms look like a truck stop. I'd get something to go if I was hard up, but that's about it.

Food was great & the place had a great vibe. Alex the manager mailed my ear buds that I left there on a Saturday evening.. Was from North of the Border and I must thank Alex for going the extra mile to help me out. 👍

My partner and I came to work here with some coworkers, and the sushi was great, but the service was not. The restaurant wasn’t even a quarter filled, and when we sat at our table for over ten minutes for the waitress to bring us a food menu, her and three other servers were talking at a kiosk stand directly within our eyesight for twelve-plus minutes. We tried to get their attention, but they ignored us until their boss asked them to tend to our table, and it still took her a while to get to us. It was frustrating, and it made me genuinely upset this area doesn’t have a lot of sushi restaurants. We waited so long to be given a menu that we would have left if there were any other options nearby.

Ive been here a bunch of times and i love the show and the fun of the hibatchi tables and interacting with the cooks. Everytime inbring my kids they always make them laugh and have fun. The sushi bar, although a little limited in selection, is always made wonderfully and tastes great and the staff always have such awesome attitudes.

Drinks were fine, food was mediocre. Service sucks - Both girls at the front podium rolled their eyes when we walked in at 8 o clock on a Saturday night. Safe to say there’s no reason for us to return.

Second time here- because the first was really delightful.
Today, unfortunately, we arrived at 7:20 to be told they were done serving hibatchi tableside (which is why we came).
Please update your hours to reflect that all of your services are unavailable during specific times.

The servers are super sweet and kind, but this place is so dirty and the food is also not good. The Philadelphia roll was awful and the spicy tempura was almost wet. The atmosphere was that of a dive bar and I am worried about getting sick.

Went here for dinner tonight. We started of with the Sakura roll which is what you see in the picture. It was delicious. We also ordered the chicken katsu which we thought was decent. Overall the food was amazing. The service was even better. Get your dinner here.

Unclean/needs repair (floor is sticky, cracks in the wall, a lightbulb is broken and still being used)
Waited 30 minutes for the dishes

Poorest service I’ve ever had. Dirty dishes not cleared timely, server completely inattentive. Restaurant dirty, dish rags and napkins laying on the floor while staff walked by. No manager on duty when we asked for one. An awful experience right down to no toilet paper in the bathroom.

Forgot to give me the sides of spicy mayo I paid for and the sushi was not worth the price.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but I think people should know what they’re getting in for when dining here. Sakura is unlike any hibachi place I’ve ever dined - It had very mediocre food, poor customer service, and was a very rundown establishment for a high cost.
First, when I sat down I was immediately drawn to the seam (crack) of the counter that my plate was at. There was a lot of dried and old rice stuck down inside of it. After the initial shock or uncleanliness, my son smashed his fingers pretty significantly between the establishment’s broken chair seat and the frame of the chair. This required ice and came with a lot of tears from a very tough kid. They removed the broken chair only after I brought it to them.
Next, during dinner the chef accidentally spilled water all over a plate, my daughter, and myself. One of my legs was soaked and my daughter’s canvas shoe, but I didn’t feel like it was that big of a deal, until he called for help multiple times and no staff came to help for several minutes or when they did reply they said they'd come later.
To top it off, we had a large party and asked several times if they would like to know how the bill would be split. We were told that they would figure it out in the end. After the initial check came, it took over 20 minutes to straighten out and then it took multiple attempts to get the bill correct. Overall, just a very poor experience and worth the drive to literally any other hibachi restaurant.

Early in the dinner time frame called to place an order for takeout and was quoted 20-25 mins. Upon arrival, paid for my food and ended up waiting an additional 20 mins, while looking around fir someone to ask when my food would be ready the host stand up front was completely abandoned and almost seemed like the staff was avoiding the area. Once someone did resume their post upfront, they were on their personal phones as new guests were entering the establishment, ignored until the phone started to ring.

Tamia was extremely unhelpful and dismissive while I tried to place my to-go order. She kept repeating that she just takes the orders and couldn’t help. And that somehow there is no manager or supervisor of any kind on duty. Just servers. Very hard to believe. I’ve ordered and eaten here several times and never spoke to someone this rude. Would not recommend eating or ordering from here when Tamia is on duty. Come back when she’s not there. Not sure how she got the job to begin with. They must be in desperate need of staffing.

I'm so disappointed in our recent experience here. I made reservations for 5 people for my husbands birthday. Our party showed up 15 min early (I did not expect to get seated until our reservation time). During those 15 minutes I see all the hibachi tables are full and only ONE chef. In fact this chef got finished up at one table and moved right to the next. I approached the hostess stand and spoke to what appeared to be a manager and asked her "Do you have more than one chef tonight?" She replied with a stern "yes" and went back to what she was doing.
She eventually called our name, as we were walking over to the table (mind you this is 10 minutes after our reservation time, so a total of 25 min in the restaurant) I asked again, "I know you said there were more hibachi chef's but I don't see any of them" She RUDELY replied with "they're probably in the back". She walked to our table, picked up a glass and continued to walk to the back.
Umm okay, I guess this is our table. What happened to "Here's your table your server will be right with you". I was so confused I kept following her because...duh, until my husband shouted at me to come back and tell me that this was our table. She said nothing to us.
We waited another 10 minutes at our table, was not greeted, still did not see any other chef's. I looked around and saw that only one table had food and the rest were still waiting to order.
We ended up walking out.
I know the food is good which is why I made a reservation for my husbands birthday but the customer service this night was absolutely awful and made for a bad birthday night.

Asked if a Table was open for dinner at 3 pm, "NO, WE'RE BOOKED"! RUDE....
Called the restaurant after leaving asked to speak to a manager, "No Manager was on duty" then the same rude women, picked up the phone and claimed to be a manager

The food is average. The lady on the receiving desk isn’t pleasant at all she didn’t even smile (maybe she had a long day) anyway, the waitress is nice & accommodate us fairly. The ambiance is just fair

If you’re concerned with cleanliness, I would not eat here. It was relatively slow on a Tuesday when we came in for Hibachi and saw a waitress or hostess apply deodorant behind the sushi counter. She then handled her hair and went back to working.
However, the food prepared by our Hibachi chef was amazing and he was very personable. I just wish I could continue dining here without worrying about the cleanliness.

We had a reservation but they made us wait about 30 minutes to seat us with another group that ended up being a no show, even though we didn’t even need to sit at a hibachi table. Finally sat at a non hibachi table that was empty the whole time we waited, so that’s great. Staff weren’t very friendly or empathetic about the wait time, and didn’t check on us once. After we were done eating it took close to 15 minutes to get the bill, and by then they weren’t busy anymore. Quite disappointed and won’t be back. Asian 1 up the road is a much better option.

Could improve the cleanliness of the place. I had the bento box, the portion can easily feed 2 adults, food freshness and taste was ok.
