Hubby & I finally the chance to have dinner at Kuma Sushi. Everything we ordered was delicious & fresh. I really enjoyed the “REAL” crab meat in the sushi roll. It’s nice to have a sushi restaurant like this in Bonney Lake. We don’t need to drive to Seattle. Keep up with the great service & quality of food.

First of all, even if you don’t have to go to the bathroom, you should! Warmed seats with lights and lights on all the mirrors, in the ladies room there is a high chair in case you have a little, and there is a Feng shui garden with lights .. great first impression. The food was absolutely wonderful and worth the price!! The display was all apart of the experience. The dishes have fresh herbs, micro greens, and even a fresh beet. There was a small vase with cherry blossoms. Such a a nice touch. Very small place but has outdoor seating. Definitely sushi done right. The gyoza was authentic Japanese (steamed). The sauce had something special to it. We ordered the “Kuma” and the “Mirmaid”. Wanted to go for one more but it was perfect. We plan on coming back to try the whole menu. All staff were so warm and kind. Great for date or double date. 5 stars highly recommend!!! Worth a trip from wherever you’re coming from!

My husband and I absolutely adore Sushi Kuma. Every visit is always a delightful experience. The atmosphere is serene and welcoming, perfect for a special night out or a casual yet refined dinner.
The food presentation is nothing short of stunning. Every dish is a visual masterpiece, with each piece of sushi meticulously crafted and incredibly fresh. The attention to detail in both taste and aesthetics is truly remarkable, making every bite an exquisite experience.
While the prices are a bit higher compared to other sushi places in the Bonney Lake area, the quality and authenticity of the sushi make it well worth it. The menu offers a wonderful variety, ensuring there’s always something new and exciting to try.
If you haven’t visited Sushi Kuma yet, I highly recommend that you do. It’s a true gem, and every visit feels like a special occasion. Treat yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

This was the best sushi experience I’ve had, in all of Washington, Canada, and even Japan. This is on par to going to an extremely fancy authentic sushi place in Japan.
Every other time I have had sushi in Washington state, I have been so disappointed by the low quality of fish and preparation. I’m usually left feeling icky after eating at other places for example trappers sushi, sushi omiya, momosan Seattle (Washington).
Sushi Kuma was incredible delicious, the fish was noticeably fresh, quality top tier. The price is high, 25-36$ for a roll. That being said, is it worth it and the price is justified for how delicious it all was. I would rather come here and spend the extra money than go for a cheaper disappointing sushi experience. The sushi was not drowned in too much sauce, poorly prepared rice, and thin slices of bad quality fish. Sushi Kuma does not skimp out, giving generous portions of fish, thick nigiris of incredible flavour. You can tell the chefs care about what they serve.
I highly recommend the negitoro roll, it was the most delicious negitoro roll I have had in my life and I have ate alot of negitoro. If you have the chance to order that, do it and you won’t be disappointed. All the rolls and nigiri were prepared with care and you can taste it.
10/10 coming back again.

This is a wonderful place! I have been looking for a high-quality sushi restaurant in the Tacoma/Puyallup area for almost a year now and I found it in Bonney Lake of all places. The Kuma roll, Blind Date roll, and the nigiri sushi (blue fin tuna) were phenomenal. The service and the presentation are outstanding. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Went to dinner with my daughter here. We ordered several variety of rolls and sashimi and they were all delicious. Parking is ample and free of charge. Smaller establishment so if there is a rush you could be apr to wait, but we didn’t have an issue as there were but a handful of tables occupied when we visited. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices are higher than I’m used to, even for sushi, so that surprised me a bit. Good quality and recommend if you aren’t price sensitive.

I highly recommend Sushi Kuma over any other sushi restaurant in town! I ordered online for pickup, the process was easy and the menu items had pictures which was helpful. The food is pricey, but absolutely worth it! Best quality sushi I have had since Hawaii, the Miso soup was delicious and the Gyoza was wonderful. Try them out they are over by Marshall’s and Red Robin.

There were a few things that we didn’t like, but the quality of the food was a grand slam, and carries this to a five star experience. We had some sort of flaming lobster dish, my wife, and I both agreed it was quite possibly the best tasting sushi we’ve ever eaten. The portions were small, and the prices were higher than we’re used to. We had to ask for extra soy sauce and wasabi, and still ran out (twice). Please… just put a quantity of each at every table! Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Honest 5 stars!

Best sushi we’ve had in ages! The quality of the fish is beyond! We had a large group and were easily accommodated with a reservation made the day before. We tried the salmon belly carpaccio (not your standard carpaccio, but beautifully presented and delicious) to start! The miso between the appetizer and meal was perfectly balanced. We did four specialty rolls, all of which were phenomenal. The quality of the fish is remarkable, and the melding of flavors was spot on! Hands down our new favorite spot south of Seattle!

Sushi Kuma in Bonney Lake is a true gem. The chill vibe, attentive staff, and thoughtful touches like flowers in the corner create a welcoming atmosphere. The warm hand towel service adds a touch of luxury, while the sushi presentation—plated on a large leaf with bamboo sticks—is stunning. I was so in the zone that I forgot to take a picture of the wagyu, bluefin kama toro, and salmon belly Sashimi—guess I'll just have to come back! As my son said, "They're really cooking here." I'm thrilled we finally have a top-tier restaurant in our area.

Seriously the most overpriced sushi place ever!!! I ordered a California roll at $17 and the pieces were less than an inch in diameter and I’m positive they used $0.80 canned crab for it. I could have made twice the amount I was served for under $4. Extremely disappointed.

Way over priced. $80 for a meal that you can get at good sushi restaurants for $35. The fish in the rolls were ground up into a paste. Not worth the cost at all. Go elsewhere unless you like throwing money away.

Intimate and inviting restaurant atmosphere with sushi bar seating.
Sat at the sushi bar, first impression was the high grade sushi knives that were being used, and the fresh produce used for sushi. Thoughts of Michelin quality were my initial thoughts.
Ordered the Blue Fin tuna roll and confirmed this is really good quality ingredients at a Michelin level. Also, tried their Spider Roll and found it to be quite good too.
Service is great as I got a complimentary fruit salad and miso soup (not too salty which is good).
Price wise this is more like a 3-$$$ level and well worth it for high quality Japanese food.
Finally, a Japanese Sushi restaurant in Bonney Lake, no more long trips to Bellevue or Seattle for good sushi.
Lastly, the restrooms are super clean and IMHO I often feel that clean restrooms reflect the kitchen area, if a restaurant can't keep restrooms clean I'm not sure if they take care of their kitchen. So it was nice to see that their restrooms were really spotless.

Tempura was not even tempura, it’s panko fried vegetables which is called “fry” in Japanese, not Tempura. Karaage tasted like Korean fried chicken.
Sashimi was fresh but sushi rice was okay. Presentation was amazing. If you are going for the presentation and Sashimi it might be a good place but avoid here if you are looking for an authentic Japanese food and sushi.

I have finally decided to pen this review because although my first visit was a positive one, my last visit will be my last visit.
About two weeks ago I took some friends from out of town to sushi kuma on a Wednesday night and when we were seated around 6:30 there was just one other occupied table nearby.
We ordered appetizers to start: chicken Karage, uzuzkurri, and negihama. The chicken karage was good and gone in seconds. The highlight of our meal.
At that time it was around 6:45 and we saw there was happy hour from 7-9p so we asked if we could order a merlot at 7p under the happy hour prices. To our surprise, the waitress said that happy hour prices were only for guests that arrived after 7pm. Wow. I am still shocked thinking back to it. When asked why she couldn’t just put the order in after 7p, she stated that they are slow and trying to get more guests in after 7p so they can’t make an exception. We asked if my nieces (under 10 years old) could at least get the free ramune drink they offered kids for happy hour and she also declined.
While I understand “rules are rules,” they had a real opportunity to make us repeat customers by showing us a great experience. I know it was within their power because the waitress said she came up with the happy hour rule. Additionally, only one other table was seated while we were there. They had the resources and time to deliver exceptional service and simply chose not to.
But I digress. We ordered our sushi and it came out in a timely manner. However, the waitress dropped a fried shrimp head that was part of my friends meal. She went back to the kitchen and they fired up a new one. She started walking towards us again and dropped the new one. While we were all watching. She decided to leave it and delivered the sushi to my friend without acknowledging what happened.
At this point, we were all so disenchanted, we didn’t bother bringing it up. We just wanted to finish our food and get out of there. Unfortunately, the sushi was not good enough to redeem the front of house.
I had high hopes for sushi kuma since I live nearby, but this was such a poor experience, I won’t be returning.

This place rocks!
Worth the money for the boat! Variety of different parts of high-quality fishes and Uni/ Amaebi/etc all over the boat.
Didn't expect these high quality 'Neta's in the south area.
If you are the sashimi nerd who is willing to pay for the right quality!? Check this place out and ask the chef to float the boat. 😊

Wow! My wife and I went here for dinner and couldn't be happier. We were happily greeted as soon as we walked in the door and offered a seat at the sushi bar. My wife couldn't help but tell the chef how amazing and beautiful all of our plates looked. Being at the bar we got to watch not just our food being made but every dish that went out and they all looked incredible.
At the end of our meal the chef shared one of his favorites (I believe he said flounder nigiri) it was amazing and honestly not something I would have ordered for myself.
Sushi Kuma is a step up from any other option I have been to in Bonney Lake. The staff is the best, the sushi is the best and honestly the price reflects that, but definitely worth it and we will be back again.

I don't typically write reviews, but I felt compelled to write a five star review for Kuma. It is, without a doubt, the best restaurant in Bonney Lake (regardless of cuisine). The service is top-notch: My server was very fast and respectful – they actually value and appreciate their patrons. The chefs take pride in their work, and don't waste time getting your food to you (I had miso soup and a house salad brought to me within a minute of being seated and two sushi rolls out to my table within 10 minutes). The atmosphere is very modern, while being warm and inviting.
The two rolls I had were incredibly fresh, flavorful and didn't rely on smothering them in spicy mayo, like most sushi restaurants nearby.
This spot could easily hang with the best in Los Angeles or San Francisco – I don't know how Bonney Lake got so lucky to get it.

I just had dinner at the new Japanese restaurant in Bonney Lake, and it exceeded all my expectations!
The sushi here is some of the best I've ever had, and I've sampled sushi in various cities, including Seattle, Bellevue, and NYC. The quality and freshness of the fish were outstanding.
What truly sets this place apart, though, is the fantastic staff. They are incredibly friendly and provide efficient service, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.
I came here with no expectations, as I hadn't found a good sushi restaurant in Bonney Lake or any closer, but I was genuinely amazed. This restaurant is a hidden gem, and I'm excited to have it right next to my house. Highly recommended for sushi enthusiasts and anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

First time dining here and it was great! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Staff were very welcoming. Food was amazing. Can’t wait to go back!

Overall a great dining experience. The spicy tuna tacos and fried chicken appetizers were delicious. If you don't feel like eating sushi, the chicken steak was amazing. The meat was so tender and had a good flavor. Service was great, just had a little trouble getting to go boxes and the check when we were done. But overall I would recommend.

Sushi Kuma was absolutely beautiful! It was a banquet for the complete senses! The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, with the restaurant itself being beautiful in design and decoration. Then getting to watch the care and precision that went into making each roll, the visual feast of plate dressing and ornamentation, the wonderful smells of soup and sauces - all before you even get to taste the finely crafted and well thought flavors of each dish. Starting with the spicy tuna tacos is one of the best decisions anyone can make! I think I could've sat at the bar for hours just watching the skillful chef work his magic! There's an amazing selection of drinks to choose from, including a slightly sweet pineapple saki that I'd never heard of before. It was delicious! The meal was closed with a palette cleansing lemon sorbet and biscuit that was a perfect balance of flavor and creaminess. Which was a wonderful surprise, as sorbet can easily be too icy or the flavor not quite right. Overall, you definitely get what you pay for here, with amazing food and a great staff. Will definitely be returning for future date nights! Thank you for the amazing experience!!

The absolute best sushi in Bonney Lake and one of the best in pierce county. I am very impressed on multiple things, including, servers, chefs, and food quality. Slightly more expensive than other spots, but fully worth it and honestly it’s a great deal. My wife and I have been there twice so far and we’ll be back again soon. Very traditional, fun and professional environment.

We ate here on opening weekend and it did not disappoint! My husband and I got two rolls each and the Lake Tapps roll (I think that was the name) was our favorite. The miso soup and salad was also really tasty! I can’t wait to come back to try the chef omakase!

This place is amazing! By far the best sushi spot in the area and my new favorite restaurant. The presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious! All the food was delicious but I think the standout was the Chirashi. The service was excellent. The whole staff was attentive, respectful, and very polite. The interior is nicely decorated and is a great spot for date night. The price matches the quality of the food, ambience, and service. I can't wait to go back. I highly recommend eating here

Decided to wander after deciding that most of us weren’t really feeling Red Robin after all, and honestly it was the best decision we could have possibly made. Walking to the doors we were immediately greeted by Mr.Han as he held open the doors for the party to enter. The setting was honestly beautiful and crowded which is a nice change of pace for me. The kitchen is open and the chefs greeted us, I honestly wasn’t sure what to say I’m not used to staff being so kind. We sat down and the table setting was clean and felt complete with everything you could need. We looked into the menus and asked questions which were answered to the letter. Mr. Han refilled drinks and asked us if we needed anything never too often or far in-between so we felt looked after at all points. The appetizers came as they were done being made so they were not in unison but this isn’t a bad thing. I hate when places bring you food all at the same time and you can tell something was finished 10 minutes ago vs something else a moment before leaving the kitchen. Not having that worry was refreshing and had a sort of efficient feel to it. We ordered Chicken Karaage , Gyoza, and I believe Takiyaki, all of which DID NOT survive more than a few minutes, was way too damn goood. Not heavy and not light work either. Was the best in between I could imagine. When the main dishes arrived, the presentation was immaculate and deliberate in placement. Mr. Han was actively coming and going keeping us in the loop with our food preparation as well as cleaning the table of our appetizer’s dishes as we finished them making the main plates absolutely gorgeous centerpieces. The taste? Out of this world, truthfully. These guys in the kitchen, they’ve got to be some kind magicians. I’ve never wanted a second helping so badly in my life. The Salmon was an excellent recommendation, and I will be coming back for more. The sushi that the party ordered was to die for, and I can’t even tell you how good the chicken is. If you’re considering a visit, understand that the prices reflect the quality in a good way. It’s a respectable menu set with so many options for this level of quality and authenticity. Please give this place more attention, I promise you it will be an instant favorite. I now have a new favorite restaurant in Bonney Lake and I truly believe most of you will too. Thanks again to the Kuma staff and Mr. Han!! Until next time -

Had I known Chef just opened this restaurant, and had I expected the extreme quality of the food and experience, I would have made a bigger effort to take photos. Every plate was delicious and exquisitely presented. Our entire meal was so thoughtfully curated, blending his distinct style into a sushi experience I won’t be soon to forget. They put an omakase style touch on everything that came to the table. Unique and bespoke garnishes, handmade for each cut of fish. I can’t wait to be in Bonney Lake again to sit at the sushi bar and have some edible art made for me.

This is it - I’ve been looking for a good sushi spot in the Bonney Lake area, and Sushi Kuma did not disappoint! Presentation matched the quality - and although the price tag is higher than most places in the area, I would say it’s worth every penny. We visited on Day 3 from their grand opening, and I will surely be back.
I recommend the Kuma roll, the Lake Tapp roll, and the King Dragon roll - but honestly, I know you would be satisfied getting your usual roll of choice!

I recently dined at Kuma, and I must say it was a delightful experience. Their specialty rolls are a true treat for sushi lovers, bursting with fresh fish and vibrant flavors. The staff's attentiveness added to the overall enjoyment, making us feel truly valued.
The cozy atmosphere at Kuma creates a comfortable setting for a meal with friends or a special date night. However, the catch (pun intended) is that the quality of their sushi is reflected in the price tag. But the delicious sushi and impeccable service made it a worthwhile indulgence for sushi enthusiasts.

Wow! Finding this place made our day. Delicious, intentionally crafted fresh sushi. This is our new favorite sushi place! I highly recommend eating here. The staff was so nice and friendly, and all of the food was exquisite. The chef here has truly honed his craft. Sad I didn’t take more photos.

So glad to finally have a quality sushi restaurant and experience in Bonney Lake. You can predict a lot about a sushi restaurant by their miso soup, so I was expecting a good experience when the miso was good. I was not disappointed. They are obviously using high-quality fish, and it's refreshing to have a sushi restaurant that uses real crab. The prices for special rolls lean a little higher than most other places of this quality, but I think it's worth it. All of the food is beautifully presented; the chefs obviously take great pride in what they send out. The wait staff are very friendly. This is the place to go in Bonney Lake if you are looking for good sushi.
