My partner and I have been coming to eat here for a couple months, and it is now our go-to restaurant for anything from special occasions to a spontaneous middle-of the week date night! Kuru Kuru has hands-down the best sushi I’ve ever had, some of the nicest people, and is overall a wonderful time every time we’ve been there. We used to get sushi at Jun’s downtown, or Zen Sushi up by the theater if we wanted someplace with a belt. The food at Kuru Kuru has blown both out of the water, the atmosphere is lovely, and it is less expensive! I truly cannot express how happy I am with every aspect of this restaurant. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for good food in Bellingham!

I am a sushi lover. I will eat good and bad sushi just because I love it and seafood in general. This place did not have bad sushi. It had fantastic sushi. The nagiri was lovely and a perfect texture. Their specialty/unique rolls were delicious and genuinely different than the usual mashing of crab rice and seaweed. Staff was kind and quick!

I understand there are new owners and the food and service are still great. The location of the restaurant is near one of my favorite spots in Bellingham. I can't wait to go back. Bon appetite!

Kuru Kuru sushi has an inviting environment with cozy seating. It was fairly busy when we arrived, however they were prompt about finding us seating. The sushi was very good and the plates had good portion sizes. The servers were very attentive, and I was able to order from the menu as well as grabbing dishes from the track. I will definitely be visiting again!

Extremely busy but the delicious food kept coming once we were seated. I was unaware that there were people who were on the waiting list who left their phone number to be called once their turn to be seated at an available seat comes up so this slows things down for patrons.
This time I caught them on a quiet time for a Friday and the food and service was excellent and fast!

We are not from Washington, we came to the beach in Bellingham and I really had to use the bathroom so I stopped here and planned on at least buying a drink but when I asked for a bathroom the lady in front was incredibly rude and refused to talk to me at all. I was upset so decided to just say thanks and go. The lady continued to ignore me and stare me down as I walked to my car. Very upset this place seemed very good!

I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the prices were. Each plate is usually only 3 pieces, but it was perfect for me because I was able to try several different things without being overly full. There was a lot on the menu that didn't go by on the belt, but they were happy to make things upon request. My husband tried the octopus salad, and I took a bite (I don't usually like the texture of how most people do octopus), turns out they did it very well. I'm pretty sure they make the gyoza home made because it was way more flavorful than most places.

This place was suggested by a friend. It's a conveyer belt style sushi restaurant. Food, once prepared and ready to eat, are placed on small plates protected with a clear cover and then they move around the restaurant on a conveyer belt for diners to take as they please. You can also order through the menu if you don't see anything you like.
The staff is friendly and are always checking on their customers. Plates range from $3-4.50. It may seem cheap, but portions are much smaller than you think. Food quality is mediocre at best. The rice is mushy. They place the thinest possible slices of fish on the rolls and nigiri, especially the sashimi. I just had the saddest looking unagi nigiri and dragon rolls ever. The eel was pale and thin. The tempura, in the made to order roll, was not even crunchy. The salmon sashimi were 4 pieces of what seemed like 1x1" thin slices of fish. It did not taste bad, but I didn't get the mildly sweet flavor of a fresh pacific salmon.
This place is more of a 2.5 star than 3.

There are many sushi places to eat here in Bellingham, WA. And most have very good fish and varied menus. This is a very comfortable, cozy restaurant. And of the 2 belt style sushi bars here in town, this is by far the better one. The food quality is great. The service was very good, even with the counter full and the tables pretty full. Pleasant staff made it a pleasure. We will be back.

Terrible food. The servers were too busy to take custom orders for items not on the conveyor. The tea cups tasted like soap and the liquid was pretty much just hot water. Meanwhile the chef is just standing there the whole time but redirects us to the servers to order. Then randomly our kid was given a free(?) dessert and we took that as our cue to leave.

Sushi is okay here but when I order on DoorDash or when I pick up for delivery orders they always have drivers waiting 20+ minutes for food. I try to ask them for time estimates so I can update customers and protect my own rating as a delivery driver and they say “a few minutes” and it ends up being much longer than that. I now tell my customers to expect and 20 or more minute wait beyond what their estimated times are so that I am not left disappointing them when relaying information given by the restaurant.

I’ve been going there for years now, service has really declined over the past year. “Owners” I assume always have a bad attitude. They will come to your table every 2 min asking if you’re done, if there is people waiting. The Lady manager, I’m not sure her name, treats employees horribly as well. I’m not sure if I will continue going there any longer.

The food was really good the service however was not very good at all the elder waitress rudely moved my girlfriend's chair wilo she was trying to eat then from there came and rudely informed use that the plates had to sit with use and not on the belt .then after that she found one more plat and came over again to tell use if we did it again we would have to leave .when we had not put any more plates back on the belt she just assumed and everyone knows the saying about assuming.

One of the absolute worst restaurant experiences ever! Firstly, they wouldn't seat me until my wife was also there. Even though there were plenty of open seats and she was literally just parking the car. Then it took FOREVER for a waitress or anybody to even approach us. We had to ask for everything... water, napkins, soy sauce, wasabi, etc. They proceeded to act annoyed when we wanted to order some things. Then my wife found an actual little rock in her sushi roll! She hurt her teeth on it pretty significantly. That wasn't even the worst part. Absolutely NO apology from ANY of the staff, including the owners! They basically implied that we lied about it. One of the "chefs" said, "No, that's just one of the little black things we put on top" (apparently he didn't know that they are called sesame seeds). Then he proceeded to say, "Oh well, here's your roll" as he threw the plate down in front of us. They never even gave us about half of the rolls we ordered. But, we were so disgusted by their behavior that we just wanted to leave. Honestly, we have enjoyed this restaurant a couple times before, but this is just NOT acceptable! Will never return. I highly suggest going elsewhere.

Best sushi we've found in BHAM, hands down! Everything was fresh and prepared perfectly! Unfortunately, our waitress was very inattentive. We waited for a while, as it was our first time there before she paused long enough for us to ask the process. Even then she was short with us and not very helpful. Luckily a second waitress stepped in and things improved. The conveyer serving concept is really fun and the portions are perfect for sampling. One big problem for us was knowing what was what, as none of it is labeled. Some of the containers were condensated to the point that we couldn't tell what was inside as it passed by. Either way, those short comings won't keep us from going back, it really was that good!

I love this place. It's great food and a cozy atmosphere. The options are amazing and the food is beautiful to look at before you consume it. The best part is other than drinks you're basically your own server. (Of course if you order something not on the conveyor belt the servers will take your order.) My one nit-pick is the few times you see your server they are asking if you want to leave. If there is one thing I would change it's that. Sushi is something to be enjoyed over period of time, and for whatever reason they like to push to that time to 30 minutes. Other than that, top notch food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We wanted sushi for lunch while we were in bellingham and this place had okay reviews. We walked in and the server was friendly. Sat us down and while I was looking at the menu, I noticed one of the workers (brown guy with a long beard) take out his phone, text put it back into this pocket and continue to roll sushi with the same gloves. Food was not good and quite expensive for what it is. Very unsanitary.

The sushi proportions were off-so much rice with shaved piece of tuna/yellow tail and given dab of wasabi for the entire table. I had to ask for wasabi three times & even then, it wasn’t enough. The service was ok-seated right away & taken care of but couldn’t sit facing the conveyor belt bc we had more than two people.

Unfortunate...waited for 30+ minutes only to watch a group that arrived after get seated first.
When I expressed concern I was very condescendingly told that they seat groups with kids at tables first.
They chose to have priority seating while their posted seating policy (a lot of guidelines) doesn't mention anything regarding this matter.
They have decent food but with this type of service...we'll never be going back.
Choose wisely...

My 4 stars for service is directed at management who doesn't give the servers enough time to be like ... Cool and personable. It was just fast. Which is fine, don't get me wrong, it was just like ... "Sit down, drink? Kay. Eat the fish, guy" and they bounced.

My first visit was good, thanks to the friendly brunette server. However, during my last visit, the young hostess with black hair displayed a negative attitude towards us.
First off, she handled my request for extra ginger poorly. At first, she simply neglected to bring it, and when I asked again, her response was, "I can't bring you extra. You'll have to ask when you run out." It's worth noting that I have received extra ginger from other servers at this restaurant before. In fact, in all my sushi dining experiences, I have never encountered such a rude response when requesting extra ginger.
The other disappointing incident occurred when we requested Philly Roll with tempura crunch on top. Although I wasn't aware of its exact name, it had been available on the conveyor belt before, and the kitchen staff had prepared it for us. However, when we tried to order it from this hostess and explained that we'd like a Philly Roll with tempura crunch on top, she displayed a clear annoyance with our lack of knowledge regarding its specific name. I observed her discussing our request with the chefs and other staff members as she looked so obviously annoyed. It's important to note that we are amiable individuals, and our requests were entirely reasonable. Nevertheless, her reaction was quite striking.
It became evident that asking her for anything beyond her basic duties of seating and providing wasabi/ginger was problematic. The overall experience was highly disappointing because the location is wonderful.

I've been here many times, and the sushi has been decent for belt sushi, but after the last few times, I couldn't bring myself to ignore how dirty the place is. I'm not sure if it's always been that way or if it's just gotten worse. It started to make me concerned about food preparation and cleanliness. The staff turnover is very consistent, and the one person we did see stick around for a while ended up working at another restaurant we visit sometimes. They confirmed some very unsanitary practices and the poor treatment of the staff. When we went, we’d try never to go at peak times because first come, first serve isn't always how they seat people. I think it might have to do with the size of your party, but sometimes they will sit others that have arrived after you. It's not always clear why.

I've been going here for years, and while I will likely continue to visit every once in a while, I have noticed that the service just isn't as good as it used to be. It's less expensive than Zen (the other conveyor sushi place in town) but that's really the only thing it has going for it at this point. I feel like they are always understaffed, so you have to flag down one of the wait staff anytime you need something (which can take a while if they're busy with other tasks). It seems odd because they always have tons of staff in the kitchen. Maybe all they need is one or two more experienced servers on the team.

This may be the best sushi for the price in Bellingham. I particularly like it here because I can sit down and grab a bite to eat without having to order something and wait. The sushi is pretty decent quality as well. I will usually go to zen sushi becathe atmosphere is nicer but the sushi here is better.
The seating has grown to be very claustrophobic at the belt. I'm quite small, and I can't imagine an average or larger sized person having a pleasant experience. You will bump elbows with your neighbor consistently. Unfortunately, the waitress was struggling with this issue as well because she spilled the miso soup on me, which could have been avoided if she hadn't been put in such a difficult and cramped situation.

Prompt service at this conveyer-belt sushi place. The rolls and nigiri were heavy on the rice and a little under seasoned, but hard to beat for the price.
Visited 2 years ago
Have been to Kuru Kuru twice now and felt disappointed both times. The sushi is over priced and mediocre at best. Quality control is poor. Half the plates I received had an ingredient missing from at least one role and the rice was incredibly dense. One of my roles had a bone left in it. Little to no variety of sushi on the conveyer belt, and most of the expensive plates are just a variation of a California Role with a little tweak, such as adding sauce or thin strips of sashimi. From my experience, it seems that little pride is taken in the food that they serve here.
Service was also poor, which isn't ideal when half of the menu will not appear on the conveyor belt unless you specifically order it.
My assumption is that they have remained open solely due to their location, hapless hotel stayers, and the novelty of their conveyor belt. You're better off buying a plate of sushi from Haggens or Fredmeyer, putting it on a toy train, and eating it near the water front.

Plenty of options to choose from and the prices here are not astronomical. Great place to get some sushi, would highly recommend!

This restaurant's location is great and attracts locals and visitors who like sushi served in conveyor belts.
During weekends and week nights, you will have to wait for a while to get seated. I don't mind waiting for a good food.
However, their sushis (particularly rice) are not well prepared. Also, I happened to observe how they wash and clean sushi dishes.
Here are the information:
- Food: below average
- Service: Depending on who serve you. Owner and her son are not really friendly. Rest servers are great!
- Ambiance: Average and could be considered as a nice dinner place (with the location)
- Price: Average
I would not want to come back based on their service and food.

We waiting around 20 minutes and when our table was ready the host asked if our last party had arrived we said he will be here any minute but then she gave our table away and continued to skip us while we waited for our last person to arrive. For them not allow us to sit down and eat until our last party arrived was very frustrating it was a one person difference it should not have been enough to skip over us. we ended up just leaving and will not be coming back.

The food and experience is amazing. I try to be super nice and not yell or wave for waiters. But the lack of paying attention was crazy I held my hand and up and said excuse me at least 6 times and it wasn't until one of the cooks came up before I could put an order in and then when we were all done it took almost 15 minutes of trying to get our check so we can go and for how busy it was you'd think they'd want the table faster

I love Kuru Kuru. It’s the best conveyor belt sushi that I’ve ever had. Prices are very reasonable and the quality and taste is top notch. Best of all you can order anything off the menu at no additional charge. Be prepared for a wait if you come for dinner on a Friday or Saturday. Lunch tends to be less crowded. Fish is generally pretty fresh and their rice is fairly consistent from one day to the next. I asked a server who was working especially hard, how tips are distributed at Kuru Kuru and was disturbed at what I was told. The owner apparently collects it all and gives it to a single employee at the end of each day(?)/shift.
I called L & I to learn that this is illegal. Employees are entitled to a percentage share of the tips. As a customer I wanted to reward the waitstaff at my discretion, not the owners.
Ask before you tip!

Manager also takes most of the tips for herself.

The restaurant is in a very nice location with a beautiful view of the ocean. The interior is simple and the staff are nice and friendly. The sushi’s are ok, I’d say don’t expect too much. We went here for dinner and it took awhile before we could see other types of sushi on fhe conveyor. If you want something on the menu that you don’t see on the belt then make sure to request it and they’ll bring it to your table. The price of the sushi is based on the color of the plates they’re on so if you’re not careful, you can end up with quite a hefty bill at the end. If you’re looking for a sushi fix and you’re in a hurry then I recommend this place since there’s no waiting for food, maybe for a table because they don’t have that many tables. All in all, it’s a must try

We drove all the way here because the food is great and its a quick belt sushi place and we were in a hurry. My husband dropped me off so i could get a table and order and get things ready since we were in a hurry. The manager (judy) doesn't allow you to sit down until all people in your party are sitting as well. Wouldn't allow us to pre order and made me sit in the waiting area while my husband struggled to find parking spot. We had our toddler with us and the manager wouldn't even allow the waitress to get us a high chair or set the table for us until my husband was inside ready to sit down. We weren't even allowed a glass of water until "all people in the party" were inside ready to sit down. So we didn't get to even order anything and only got belt sushi because we were rushed because they wouldn't allow me to sit or order. The manager was not pleasant to us or to her waitresses. I felt bad for how she retreats them.
Waitress was nice and helpful.

Found hair in food. Waitress response was " it happens sometimes". Sushi was good but hair in food, it was gross.

False waiting times, uncommunicative about times

The food was delicious and it was pleasant to be there. It took a minute to get our large group seated but the staff is wonderful and my kids had an excellent birthday meal. Will visit again.

Catastrophic organization with the floor staff. We were told 20 minutes to wait, and watched as one competent and urgent shift leader tried to seat parties with little to no help from the non-urgent younger wait staff. Really annoying.

The food itself was amazing and the servers were kind and quick to help!
But they need to seriously improve their communication skills. My husband special ordered some rolls because he is very allergic to avocado. We made sure the server was well aware of this and even watched her write it in big bold letters on the ticket. First roll - avocado. Second roll - again, avocado. Thank goodness we always double check the roll or else that would have been an expensive trip to the hospital. Even after sending it back they had to come clarify that he was in fact allergic to avocado. I’ll probably come here again with friends but my husband and I both no longer trusts the service.

There was hair in my food. I know it wasn't mine because I have curly hair.

Place has gone downhill bad. Not worth a visit.

Delicious sushi for a great price. Decent selection on the belt, with many more options available on the menu.

Good food, was happy I could just sit and grab a few plates right away. I should have ordered off the menu as the belt didn’t have as many options as I wanted

Great service. My servers had been very helpful. That was the highlight of my experience from there it went down hill. From 2 microwaves clearly used to cook most of the food to how dirty the sushi conveyor was and the taste of the dishes I have had at other places compared to there

Worst place ever, not only is it filthy, anything that said baked wasnt it was microwaved( watched them put my food and others in a microwave) the staff was excellent.. but i will never be going back.

It's OK and a novel experience for those who want to try out the sushi conveyor belt dining style. Good variety of rolls even though it's very heavy handed with the mayo dressing, usual limited varieties of nigiri sushi like salmon and tuna but not much else, and different fried appetizers like gyozas, Chinese sesame balls, and spring rolls. Great yuzu sparkling sake. You can order from the menu too as not all varieties are available on the belt.
Staff are incredibly helpful and accommodating. So that's always a plus.
Don't expect this to be like a regular dine in sushi options like a regular sushi restaurant... It's strictly rolls, limited nigiri sushi and some appetizer dishes and some dessert. No extended options like noodles, tempura or bento rice or don buri bowls. Not a quick meal by any means, you can still down and enjoy your food and take in the experience.

The fact this location is always busy should tell you something. Hands down the best sushi place I've ever been to.

Do you know that this is my most favorite sushi place anywhere?!?! Hawaiian rolls, spicy California rolls, ichiro rolls, and tuna rolls are out of this world!!! Get there when they open for best opportunity to not wait for a table. This place is busy!! This is not a lingering restaurant, be courteous and conscious of the other patrons waiting to eat. 🤤

I've been coming here since ~2013, and the food is always as outstanding as the customer service. When I went gluten free, I stopped coming as I figured it would be too difficult to avoid, but last week I finally came back after 5 years, and wow! The guy who helped us double checked every food I asked for to see if it was gf and when it wasn't he made special batches for the table that were. I absolutely love it here and can't wait to come back

omg! SO tasty. my sis and her husband visited and brought home sushi to-go from this place. i didn't even know of Kuru Kuru :/ everything, and they brought a large selection, was delicious; perfectly balanced on the palate <3 so thankful my fam turned me on to such a lovely sushi place in my hometown.

Always a good time at Kuru Kuru! I really appreciate that they put up plastic barriers between groups of two at the bar in front of the conveyor belt. I honestly think they should stay! You can always count on a continuously full belt of fresh offerings every time. Often busy, which is a testament to it's reliability and quality. Good service and lots of natural light in the day. It's a great way to try new things and get exactly what you want, can't beat it!

Well.........
At first I was excited. The placed looked like it was a good place to eat. I waited about 10 minutes to be called for my seat. Once I was I was on my way when I was told to stop, so I stopped (fairly embarrassed because I was waiting in the middle of the pathway) while they decided to not seat me at the place they originally wanted me at. They told me to wait.....so I sat down and waited. Then they sat me. I had 4 small plates of food , and as I was giving myself a break a girl came up toe and asked if I was finished. I said no, not yet. 3 minutes later another girl came up to me and asked if I was finished, again, I said no. I waited until I say what I wanted and had another plate. Before I could swallow the last bite I had 2 girls one right after the other ask me if I was done.........
All in all within a 10 minute span, I was asked 5 times if I was done. I understand "turn and burn", and they want to make as much money as possible. But it REALLY destroys the experience. I could not finish a plate without someone asking me if I was done. Not cool, no matter how good it is
I will pay a little more somewhere else where I can be left alone and relax without being constantly bothered when I'm eating.

Kura Kura was good. Sushi is fresh and the small plates allow for a true tasting of numerous dishes. The “Raw Sweet Shrimp Nigiri w/deep fried Shrimp Heads” must be an acquired taste, not our taste. Service is prompt and very hospitable. We’ll be back.

Update...food seems fresher but lacking in quantity. Server was excellent but hostess seated 2 tables before us even though we arrived before them. We waited an hour to be seated for a party of 5. Not happy. Especially when there is Skai Sushi in birch bay which is far better!

Love the sushi here. The conveyor belt system here is very nice and I'm always full by the time i leave. Sometimes it can be a long wait but its worth it in the end.

I really like the friend California roll! Most of the plates have 3-4 rolls per plate, but if you ask for the fried California roll, it isn't that expensive, and it comes with 5 rolls! Very cool!
