NEW* Kusshi Ko Virginia | Soft Opening NOW | DM @KusshiKo to get invited
I went out with my family for dinner last night, and I was blown away with the quality of fish and exceptional service! I’ve been to multiple kusshi locations and they’ve all been consistent across the board. The staff provided great recommendations that I really enjoyed. I especially loved the Chirashi sampler. Sake options were great too and complimented the meal! Can’t wait to come back and try more!

20241215 Service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, and let us know his shift was ending and another waiter would be taking care of us. The Specialty Sushi was good. My favor was Ovi. We also ordered Phoenix, Fire Cracker, and Kusshi, which is no longer on the menu. We are not sure about the cold noodles on the Kusshi roll. The Wasabi was not spicy at all. Both my friend and I got really thirsty from eating, and maybe it's the soy sauce? The specialty sushi seemed to have too many different things on it that it was hard to taste the sushi itself. I would go with a variety of specialty and some traditional sushi. The total was almost $80 for 4 rolls, for 2 people. They add up fast $$$$!

The wife and I decided to try this new sushi place. We didn't come here with much in the way of expectations but man was I wrong! The sushi here is top notch, it rates up with some of the best sushi that I've had in the DMV. We came for lunch but I think that we must have eaten half of the menu. The place is cozy with an upstairs dining area that looks over the sushi counter. If you are ever in the mood for sushi make sure you come by Kusshi sushi! Our server was Woojin and he was the best!

I had this whole review written out about this place. How the atmosphere had the decor of vibrant art, j-pop and K-pop and regular American '80s and '90s pop playing. But then I figured I just need to tell them how good this joint is. The drinks came out fast and the food came out, delectably executed. So much so that I came back for the second helping the next day and this time, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen.
So, my first visit was awesome:
Miso soup - piping hot
Akura - fine pearls bursting with salmon flavor
Specialty roll - perfect pairing with J-pop lychee malted drink.
Spicy Salmon roll - though simple, executed to bring out more salmon flavor.
2nd visit
Same drink
Tonkotsu ramen with spicy chili oil on the side
Again, simple ingredients, and let all the flavors stand out on their own.

I’ve been ordering from Kusshi for months now, they’re one of the best places in the area for sushi and their other cuisines are fantastic as well!
Their food is always great quality and tasty to a T.
I recently tried their Japanese pickle appetizer along with their tofu teriyaki as I had never had either before and both were phenomenal.

I ordered delivery on the night of November 6th. The Philly roll should have had twice as much cream cheese. All the rolls were completely dry, and even the sauce didn’t help. The fish… well, I can’t say it was fresh or tasted great. Also, the side you see in the first picture should have been left out (for the price you paying).

Date night at Kushi Sushi in Tysons VA! We we're craving Sushi ( as per usual) and wanted to try something new, happy to say we were not disappointed.
✨️ Ovi roll: Seared salmon belly with ikura in perfect bites.
✨️ Tysons roll: Zack's favourite, and an easy go-to. Tuna, salmon and avacado.
✨️ Yakitori beef skewers: 2 yummy skewers with mushrooms and scallions grilled with your choice of protein.
✨️ Tobiko nigiri: One of my favvvvvvs, I love that they used Thai basil in it which really added a great flavour.
✨️ Spicy salmon roll, tuna avacado roll: More of Zack's usual orders, he said it was great quality and would come back!
Overall, we had a fantastic experience, and it's suchhhh a cute establishment and good location. We will be back for sure.

Stopped by today for the for the first time after noticing multiple locations in the region. Wife is gluten free and they offered to make any of the sushi rolls gluten free (most would be without sauce or fried items). Food was good, came out quick. Tables were a little small and tight, but no complaints. Will be back again.

We ordered a sushi boat on Sunday evening and the service was great. The presentation was beautiful and loved the nigiri pieces. But some sauce on top of the rolls tasted a little funky and other rolls were falling apart as we were picking them up.
While we were eating, all the sushi chefs took a cigarette break and the whole restaurant smell like cigarette for a few sec lol not so appetizing.

My boyfriend and I came here on a whim after having a horrific experience and deciding to leave Cafe Ime and it ended up being the best decision ever! From the moment we walked into the restaurant, the staff was incredibly kind and seated us at a beautiful table on the top floor (the decoration inside this place is amazing!). Our server, Ava, was super funny and attentive and made awesome recommendations as well as ensured that each item was gluten free due to my allergy. We got the tuna tartare appetizer, various sashimi, a salad, as well as 3 or 4 specialty rolls though the only one I remember the name of is the Cherry Blossom Roll which was delicious! Everything was fresh and the specialty rolls were creative and something we felt we couldn't have gotten at the other sushi spots we frequent. They even gave us free mochi ice cream since it was my birthday which was so sweet of them. Truly could not say one negative thing about this spot. Kusshi is certainly a must-try if you're near Tyson's! Thank you again to the wonderful staff and our server Ava:)

3.5 stars: a few great bites, mostly just okay. Would not go out of my way.
Came here at an off time on a Sunday and was able to grab a seat upstairs. The decor in there is very cute. Service was a little slow at first, but it could be since we came at an off time, and it was their lunch break. Overall, they were very friendly and attentive.
FOOD:
~ Yellowtail Crudo (4/5): Thick cuts of yellowtail topped with some chili oil crunch. Tasty and the chili oil crunch isn't too overpowering
~Dragon roll (3/5): Just okay. The seaweed wrapped on top blocked some of the flavor of the eel
~Uni taco (3/5): Great portion. California uni isn't my favorite (so personal preference), but it was nice and earthy with the brightness of the shisho leaf
~A5 wagyu taco (4.5/5): Wagyu was tender and seasoned well. Great portion. Sauce was good. Just wish there was some other topping to cut the richness
~Scallop taco (3/5): unfortunately the yuzu or maybe there was some kind of herb (mint maybe?) that just overtook the flavor of the taco.
~Bluefin fatty tuna taco (5/5): So good! No notes
~Sashimi sampler - 18 piece (3.8/5): good value. Overall fish quality, freshness, and taste was just okay
Not a bad spot to visit if you're in the area, but probably wouldn't drive all the way out here for it.

food is not bad. But as a Korean Japanese restaurant the service is very bad. When led to the seat, the waiter was impatient. No service at all feels uncomfortable to press the 20% tips. When I left all the 1st floor staffs all looked at me and didn't say anything and kept checking their phones. With this kind of service, I wont say it's a Japanese restaurant.

One of my favorite places to eat in town is Kusshi Restaurant. The food there is always so delicious and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Today, I want to share with you a few of my favorite dishes from Kusshi that you absolutely must try.
First up is the chicken karaage. I have never tasted chicken karaage as good as the one they serve at Kusshi. The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The seasoning is just right, packing a flavorful punch. I could eat this dish every day and never get tired of it.
Next, let's talk about the chicken yakitori. The chicken yakitori at Kusshi is cooked to perfection. The skewers are grilled to a nice char, giving the chicken a smoky flavor that is absolutely delicious. The marinade they use is tangy and slightly sweet, making each bite a burst of flavor. This dish is perfect for sharing with friends or enjoying as a main course.
Lastly, I have to mention the personalized California roll that Kusshi made for me. I have never had a California roll quite like this one. The rice was perfectly seasoned in combination with a hint of Wasabi. The crab meat was so flavorful and the seaweed was crisp. But what really sets this roll apart is the personalized touch that Kusshi added – they made it to order with my favorite ingredients. It was like they read my mind and created the perfect roll just for me.
Overall, my experience at Kusshi Restaurant was exceptional. The chicken karaage, chicken yakitori, and personalized California roll were all outstanding. The flavors were bold and delicious, and the presentation was beautiful. I highly recommend Kusshi to anyone looking for a great meal in a cozy and welcoming environment. You won't be disappointed.

**Update**
Changing my review to 5 stars because they updated the website with full ingredients of the yakitori.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Food is usually pretty good here but I ordered chicken yakitori and was surprised and irritated when biting into mushrooms disguised as pieces of chicken. There is no indication that chicken skewers will contain mushrooms and I think they have an awful texture so that wasn't fun. Thank God I didn't have a mushroom allergy.
Please make all ingredients clear on the website.

Sushi is good, especially volcano sushi. Ramen is awful, salty, noodle is bad quality.
Eel is bad quality, chewing like a rubber, obviously it is not fresh.

We’ve been here a few times and each time has been excellent! The servers are very nice, informative and attentive, and everything we’ve tried has been very yummy! We recently came for a friends birthday and got one of their sushi boats (it said it feeds 3-4 people but it EASILY fed 5-6 at our table). Great presentation, fresh taste!
What we got: Speed Boat, Miso Soup, Edamame, Pork bowl, Takoyaki

The sweet chili wings are simply amazing and pair perfectly with their delectable sushi rolls. The affordability of such high-quality dishes is impressive, and the customer service is nothing short of stellar. Kusshi has quickly become a favorite spot, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful meal in a wonderful setting.

Really confused by the good reviews- ordered takeout for the first time yesterday and the fish did not smell fresh. Despite that, the guys still ate the rolls they ordered and everyone suffered all night + today because of it. Huge regret in giving this place a try. Go somewhere else who gets a frequent rotation of fresh fish here.

It's easy being a critic. As one who has never started a Japanese sushi restaurant before, one can only presume the sushi restaurant scene is rife with competition hard to describe. Most restaurants I've frequented carries that feature food that hits the right chord with the masses .... until the next innovation comes along. I don't know why I'm providing this intro other than to provide some perspective and apologies for my 3-star feedback.
I so very much want Kusshi Sushi to be my next sushi gem to show off to my gourmand friends. The food, service, and atmosphere was fine. It was a typical sushi restaurant to me - that's it. Was hoping for some foods that is hard to find like those large belly grilled shishamo or a seafood stew or some standout chirashi. Well, we ordered chirashi and eel bowls. It was ok and didn't see anything that isn't offered down the main drag. Japanese pickles were great but the volume provided seemed rather compensating --- those pickles would be what I'd eat non-stop in a poor-man's bento for sure. Some props for using salmon roe though. It felt like an Americanized sushi restaurant in the end.
Visited 10 months ago
My first visit to this establishment. The service was fantastic and fast. The food was delicious and served hot. It was not busy when we arrived slightly before dinner on a weeknight and was getting busy by the time we left. There was plenty of seating as they have seats downstairs and upstairs (which is genius in a place like this as more places would do better to imitate).
Ordered philly and baked creamy california. Both o these rolls were excellent (I use a philly as a basis of sushi quality lol). I ordered the chicken yakisoba. It reminded me of yakisoba I bought in kyoto from a street vendor (which was excellent as well) which had a distinct yakisoba sauce. It was really good and the portion size was just right. My wife ordered the japanese katsu curry. The meat was tender and the wife complimented it as the closest to Japanese curry as she has had in a while.
Overall, if in the area again for dinner, I'd stop in again!

Bad service. Even though I came before 4 customers, I didn’t get my order that is 3 kind of Sushi Roll before the 4 customers. So, I asked the server about my order and he told me he will check and at the same time I don’t see they prepare my order, so I just left. I will never get back again to them.

There were only two waitresses and quite a lot of people, but the girls were very attentive and provided refills quickly and answered any and all questions promoted! The portions were large and filling, I had a Groupon so it wasn’t too pricey without it, it is on the higher side but good enough quality and portions to accommodate, 10/10 will come again!

We visited this restaurant some time ago and had a pleasant experience. The restaurant has a large mural on the wall that depicts colorful characters, making a great first impression upon entering the establishment. The food was good, with a visually appealing presentation, and the service was also good. However, we were seated upstairs and found the space to be a bit cramped. Overall, it's an excellent Japanese restaurant with satisfying food and drinks.

I’ve been here a bunch of times. Sushi was good previous times. Last week I came here and ordered gyoza, a seaweed salad and chicken yakisoba. The seaweed salad was drenched in the sesame vinaigrette dressing. I sent it back. You would think the waiter would have told me that this is premade already, and they can’t remake it without drenching the dressing. So they send me out another one and it came out the same way. One of the other waiters said that it comes premade and I explained to him it’s really drenched and it does not taste good so I sent it back. I’ve been eating seaweed salad for years, and I know how it should taste. Maybe you shouldn’t have premade seaweed salad? The yakisoba was just okay. The chicken was awful. It was chicken thighs that tasted and looked gross. It was not white meat which is fine, but the thighs were fatty and tasted awful. It did not even look cooked to be honest… I did not eat chicken and ate some noodles. The noodles were also drenched and whatever sauce they use. It was not great either. I wasted my money on the yakisoba. I did order the gyoza, which were decent. Very disappointing. Will not be back. I think if you go here, you just need to order sushi only.

Tasty and creative sushi (and other Japanese dishes and bowls) for reasonable prices!
I order sushi to go every so often as they have interesting combinations in their specialty rolls as well as more simple rolls, but I also enjoy dining in sometimes as there is a cute seating loft area where you can watch the sushi chefs from above prepare the rolls!
Their fish did not taste frozen, and I enjoyed the karaage appetizer we had as well, though the “tempura style” rolls (deep fried) were a bit greasier than I was prepared for. Overall a great local chain for your sushi needs!

Came in at 9pm on Christmas weekend and luckily it wasn't busy. I got sat in an upstairs section right next to the glass railing that overlooked the restaurant and sushi bar. The menu was straightforward and not offering anything too extraordinary, but the o-toro sashimi we ordered was fantastic. The thickest piece of toro sashimi I've had in my life. Among the 4 rolls we got, the spicy scallop roll was a basic "maki" style with 6pcs, but it was a pretty chonky maki -- I'm not complaining lol. Chris was our server and he was very kind, attentive, and accommodating to any requests we had. We ended with 3 different flavors of mochi ice cream: coconut, ube, lychee. The ube was some of the tastiest ube ice cream I've had, very creamy and nutty aftertaste. They had like 15 flavors of mochi ice cream ranging from your typical strawberry to cake batter or pandan pistachio. Def try this place if you're in the area.
Off topic, but the runner girl that night had the prettiest, silkiest hair ever I didn't have the chance to tell her. Please let her know Chris!!

It was just okay, nothing special. The nigiri sushi I ordered was good but not wow. The fish pieces were on the small side as I was surprised for the prices they charge. The server was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is basic. Nothing to get excited about. It is located at the end of strip mall shopping. All in all I'm glad I went but I do not believe I will be back as it is out of the way and pretty expensive for what you get in my opinion.

The food was great but they need to work on clean dishes and plates. My wife drank from her water cup and then noticed an odor from her cup. late last night she got sick. The rest of us are fine. The soy sauce dishes all had debris or grease on them. Food was great. The waitress was great.

I had an order of the Bento Box today, a lunch special. The teriyaki chicken was superb. The amount of food you get and the quality of it is bar-none the best around.
The ambiance and the location are also very good. I appreciate the fact that this company in all its locations is not strictly a sushi place. So many options to choose from and they all looked appealing. Will be back!

Did I got to the same restaurant as the other reviewers? Because it was not that good. I was so disappointed after following their Instagram for so long. Note we only had sushi so not the other food.
First, we got the Kushi Speed Boat, which comes with a mix of nigiri, sashimi, and 4 different rows. It was pretty good value for the money. When it came, it was all sashimi, and it took the waiter a bit to figure out that the boat wasn't for us but for another table. Good thing we didn't touch that first boat.
When our real order came in, the rice for the nigiri was terrible. It was dry, and hard, and unseasoned. Did they even use sushi rice, or was it like a day old rice? The sushi rolls were better because the toppings hid the rice texture. The sashimi was okay, and we really liked the salmon. The tuna was good too, but we had tuna pieces that were all cut to different thickness, which made some of them really hard to eat. But I do recommend whatever roll had the seared salmon though, but don't think I'd come back here.

Nice service and good sushi. Much better than the average strip mall sushi place.

Update - Maryland quality has dropped and so has for Galleria special role. Side of ginger was stale. Also tried rocky shrimp this time but shrimps were very chewy, signs of a not so fresh shrimps.
In my previous visit, it smelled fishy inside all the time. Someone with high sensory skills would have had hard time seating through the service. Spoils the dine in experience for some. Looks like that has been improved and the overall atmosphere felt good.
Past Review -
Nice place to try and amaze your taste buds. Definitely stands out from regular sushi places.
Miso soup is nice. Do try their special rolls. I liked spicy mango, galleria, fire cracker and Maryland. Even if the dishes had similar main ingredients, each one has a likable unique taste. Attention to detail is really good.
Staff is friendly and service is quick. Expect an average wait time on weekend nights. Sunday evenings are relaxed for dine ins. Takeouts are available.
Abundant parking available. You’ll never run out of spaces.

Definitely like this cute Korean setting atmosphere.

No taste for the price. The amount of roll sushi is too small compared to other sushi restaurants. No side dishes...

Absolutely the best best best sushi in the area. Sushi is unbelievable tasty and fresh. I got their 9 pc nigiri which doesnt look like it comes with a lunch price but food is so good I forgive them for it.

The tonkatsu ramen was the best. It is very rare to find a good ramen place in DMV honestly, but this place is real. The sashimi was also fresh and sliced in perfect portions. I would recommend this place to all my friends, and all of them would tell me the food are all impressive. MUST GO HERE!! Peter was our server and he was excellent. Thank you Peter!!!

Food is ok but the location is great
Service is ok too. I didn’t think it was exceptional.
Would’ve given 4 star but their tip suggestion starts at 20% which is a pet peeve of mine.

Found this place by looking out my window; I'm happy that I did! This was the best sushi I've had since moving to VA. The takoyaki was crisp, creamy, and full of flavor. Rolls were 🔥 (volcano, kusshi, and spider rolls). Had 3 huge rolls, 3 apps (takoyaki, gyoza, and shrimp dumplings) all total $75! That's a great price, especially considering a place in Alexandria charged me $95 for just 3 rolls.
The music here was perfect for the environment. This is a great date/chill restaurant for the weekend. Will definitely make this my go-to spot. Servers were some of the best I've seen, were always there to clear plates, and refill whenever you needed them. This is a must go sushi place!

Extremally welcoming and professional staff.
The food was not the same each time I went (could improve on consistency), but the service and staff make me come back every time.
Even without the consistency, the food is still good!

We keep going to Kusshi Ko. We're there at least once a week, that's how much we love it.
Great place for sushi! Highly recommend
My favorite roll is the Ruby roll in case you're scrolling here looking for recommendations.

Nice little Japanese place at a convenient place in town. The food isn’t anything super special, not like Japanese level authentic high quality Japanese food but it’s not bad. The take out is descent as well and overall good. The only thing I would recommend against is the ramen, the ramen is not good.

After five hours at Dulles on board a United flight that never took off, I needed some place to console my grounded butt and two young boys in tow, all of us starving.
Imagine to my surprise when a tiny Japanese joint in a strip mall beckoned us forth with ramen and sushi despite the late hour -- and a line of cars with hazards on out front, a conga line of DoorDashers. A good sign.
We were warmly greeted by the hostess who, on realizing our plight, urgently rushed out some seared salmon belly and - my god - I think I just about fell over with the absolutely perfect smoky sear, rich umami, and light sweetness of the sushi rice. Blew my mind. I was shaking.
The yakisoba was alright but my son's tonkatsu ramen was some of the best I've ever had, with a delightful sear on the kurobota. A cold can of Hitachino Nest complemented things nicely.
The whole time the waitress doted on the boys and was ever present and cheery. Completely turned our night around.
Six stars.

Decent sushi place
Anything with seared salmon at this place is a must try
Service is good
The place is a little small but plenty of seatings
I came twice but I feel like the fish quality on chirashi has dropped a bit
1. Ovi Roll - very good, highly recommended, the smell of seared salmon belly made the roll so standout
2. Kusshi Ko roll - good, would get again, yummy seared salmon
3. Volcano - typical tempura fried sushi roll
4. Fire cracker roll - good but not too standout
5. Chirashi - yum! The fish are big pieces, love the addition of ikura in there

Amazing sushi and great service. I found this place by chance but I was extremely satisfied with my experience. The food was so good and the service was exceptional. They can do a bit better on their sake selection - need a little more variety but they still have a few good choices. Overall a great place for good sushi.

Came for the happy hour special on a Friday evening, the sushi was very fresh tasting, staff was friendly and quick, only thing it was a little hot inside the AC didn't seem strong enough, definitely would go back, great experience.

Bunch of Rude sushi chefs starring at the customer saying nothing . Same for the host and server. Over priced and very hot inside because instead of turning AC in they just left windows open to save electric bills

We ordered some rolls here thru uber eats yesterday. It was a terrible experience we ever had. We have been to many japanese places but this was the worst.
1. The californial roll- the rolls smell so bad. I had to check where the smell was coming from. I accidently gave it to my toddler before I checked it and I am very upset and regret that I gave it to my toddler. Think the smell was coming from the crab. I had so many cali rolls in my whole life but never had the rolls smell this bad.
2. Due to the smell, we quickly lost the appetite and did not even finish the half of what we ordered. We had some stomache after we had them. We suffered in the toilets for many times.
3. Fish was not fresh at all and I am so upset how they can sell the quality.

*After leaving the below review, restaurant contacted me to remedy the situation. Changed from 1 star to 3 stars.
The General Manager of Kusshi Ko (Vienna location) contacted our Middle School principal in Feb 2023 about scheduling a fundraiser. I am in charge of fundraising for the school, so I was asked to coordinate the event, which we scheduled for April 12. My family and many others bought dinner from the restaurant that night in the spirit of supporting our Middle School's fundraising efforts. I have since sent four emails and left a message for the manager asking about the results of our fundraiser and when the check would be mailed to the school, but have gotten no response. Next week will mark two months since our event. The food was great, our server was lovely, however I find the lack of response to a community fundraising event they initiated VERY disappointing.

We came for sushi recently and were surprised by how delicious the food was! The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, very well seasoned and it’s my favorite. The curry pork dish had a generous portion and tasted great. We stayed for a while to catch up with a friend and the server was friendly throughout the whole time.
We will definitely come back to try other items on the menu!
