Wish I'd read the more recent reviews before coming. Was excited for an AYCE sushi where you can order from a tablet, since I always get anxious ordering via server and end up either forgetting to ask for something, or getting the wrong item due to a language barrier, or both.

But I guess that was taken away some time ago. Despite management acknowledging the impact of ordering changes in response to a review from over two months ago, they have not rectified the situation. It's disappointing to think you were getting the tablet, only to have the server rushing you to order before you've read the menu.

A la carte orders come out slow. While they did have sushi on the conveyor belt, they were all adorned with fillers I don't eat - avocado, cream cheese, krab. And since they charge for leftovers, it's not like I can pick out those bits. If you're more of a purist for your sushi, plan to be sitting awkwardly while your table mates are eating.

Can't recommend the sashimi upgrade. The fish quality is fine when cut with rice in nigiri and rolls. But when eaten by itself, the texture is strange - like "watery"?

If you love Americanized sushi rolls with all the "stuff," then you'll probably enjoy this. If you prefer simplicity and happen to come here with friends, you can leave satisfied. I just wouldn't go out of my way to come again.

Great AYCE sushi spot. You can also order hibachi, appetizers and specialty rolls. The rolls were surprisingly good quality with thin layer of rice. Highly recommended.

I visited with my boyfriend, and it was such a fun experience! We decided to sit at the conveyor bar instead of a booth, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We got to try so many dishes we wouldn’t have thought to order ourselves, especially since we sat near the beginning of the belt. The service was fantastic—our waiter was patient, attentive, and even funny, which added to the fun atmosphere. We ordered the Black Dragon Roll, the Crunchy Spicy Salmon Roll, and another roll I can’t remember the name of, but everything was delicious. It’s a fun experience.

Wow...what a great random find!

Luckily, we got here when they first opened a little after 12 pm, but the place was already almost filled.

Coming from DC, I am a frequent flyer at Kura Kura, another revolving sushi bar. The atmosphere at Kanji was very lovely compared to Kura Kura. Well done decor and TVs for your entertainment. The restaurant itself was spacious. The bathrooms are in pristine condition.

Now the food... everything tasted so delightful. The steak hibachi cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. The sushi rolls all tasted fresh with plenty of options. I love how everything is included in one price of $30. If you're starving, the revolving bar has an array of appetizers to snack on while you wait for your special orders to arrive on a high technology "bus."

Our server, Angel, was amazing. So sweet and tried so hard to make us have the best experience possible. I left so full and super happy.

Can't wait to come back!

The AYCE experience at Kanji was super fun and delicious. We were really pleased with the extensive menu and the quality of the sushi- nice full rolls that tasted great, and a huge variety to choose from. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, the service was very fast and attentive, and the delivery robot and conveyor belt were fun to experience. Definitely a wonderful choice for sushi lovers! The only slight disappointment was in the quality of the non-sushi items, like the spring roll, seaweed salad and buns, which seemed more like Costco products than freshly made items, though the miso soup was very good. 10/10 for a great sushi experience, though! We'll definitely be back.

We enjoyed the AYCE but only allowed 1 order on the Sashimi appetizer and an additional $5 per person for Sashimi that was disappointed when the price for AYCE is $30 per person. The services were excellent. I would rather go to Centerville or Chantilly for better deals on AYCE sushi.

REALLY good food, served up quickly and if you don't want to wait just grab anything off the conveyor belt! When this place had its soft opening, there was an ipad on every table that made ordering simple. Since then though they switched to wait staff, which is annoying. For small plate orders, I'd rather not wait for staff to stop by. Otherwise, totally recommend going here.

Too many rules. Better to skip. Got up and left. I don't eat sushi so all you can eat isn't what I would order but my wife would. They do not allow this so I will not spend $70 with them. Good luck.

This is my second time here after the soft opening. The first time I came here was with my friend when reservations first opened. Everything was so nice. The food was very fresh. They had an iPad that you could order from yourself, which was really convenient. But this time they took the iPads out, which is fine. We had to order with the server instead. The server came frequently, but the food was not fresh at all. I was so disappointed. The sashimi was too fishy and the rolls looked dry, like they had been prepared a long time ago. The ginger smelled old. And when we were ready to get the check, no one showed up. So many server when we walked in, but they are not smiling and not greeting.

Stopped by this evening with some friends to try it out. That was one of the best decisions we ever made. The sushi was delicious, and the other plates we ordered (such as the hibachi and noodles) were just as delectable. Myself and my friends who joined me have all agreed that this place will be in our regular rotation of dinner spots (or lunch, if we can swing it) especially as the price was phenomenal for the amount of food you get. Cannot recommend this place highly enough for anyone looking for sushi or most other Asiatic fare.

The restaurant had a very pleasant atmosphere, with modern and cozy decor that made the experience enjoyable. The service was excellent: the staff was attentive and quick at all times.

As for the food, everything was fresh and well-presented, but I would like to point out that the sushi could improve slightly in the balance of its ingredients. While the flavor was good, I felt it lacked a bit more protein to better complement the rolls.

Overall, it was a positive experience. I would definitely return to try other dishes and enjoy the ambience.

Clean, fast, tasty, a lot of choices and well presented. There is No bar license yet, but you can see the potential.

I loved Kanji the first 4 times I came here! Now I’m not entirely sure that I’d come back. I’m not quite sure why they’ve changed their methods of operation but it really peeved me and my other guests. Instead of ordering via iPad like we used to, we had to order through our server which we found very inconvenient. We only have 90 minutes to dine…it already takes a while for our orders to be made and come via the robot to our table and now we have to compete with the other tables our server is assigned to just to make simple orders or to get a drink refill. On top of that, the iPad used to have a timer so we can have an idea of how long we have left to dine…now we were just abruptly presented with the check like “oh guess our times up then?” Other than that, sushi quality is great and delicious! Some of the conveyor belt foods leave much to be desired but it’s okay. Please consider going back to the other method you started with.

The place was nice from the start, but they've since changed their menu. Sashimi now comes with an additional charge, and all the iPads were broken. They also replaced the plates with cheap plastic ones on the running table. We live nearby and have visited seven times already. Unfortunately, the service has been terrible; the servers seem grumpy and unhelpful. Just yesterday, the server acted as if I had shown up at her house and asked for a free dinner. It was very uncomfortable!
The food is pretty good by the way.

alright alright fellas. This review is going to be a collaborative effort written by my boyfriend and I. For starters, this was our second and probably last time coming here. We came here a month ago during its grand opening and everything was great. Loved having a variety of sushi options on the revolving sushi bar along with being able to order stuff a la carte YOURSELF with the IPad they HAD at each table. We just left the restaurant extremely disappointed, and the rapid downfall of kanji sushi must be studied. You now have to order things a la carte through your server, which makes the wait time to order things a la carte significantly longer. It took each round of our a la carte orders a min of 20 mins to arrive at our table. Their revolving sushi bar definitely did a 360 and their options on that were EXTREMELY LIMITED (mostly filled with dessert and appetizer options). It felt like an entirely different restaurant from when we came a month ago. From what was my new favorite ayce sushi spot in NOVA quickly became my least favorite.

Boyfriend’s Input:

Our first visit here a month ago, left me thinking to myself “wow. This feels too good to be true. Fast service and fresh sushi at a reasonable price?” Well, it really was too good to be true. It seems as though Kanji Sushi deployed a strategic effort to earn buzz within the community and on social media. They must’ve operated their first couple of weeks at a loss, because they’re definitely making a profit now. They must have returned the iPads they had at every table, allowing customers to order at will. Now, a seriously understaffed wait crew goes around taking individual orders from every single table. The rice to sashimi ratio is even greater than before. Kanji sushi has cemented itself as just another mid tier AYCE Sushi option in NOVA. Things could’ve been so good.

First time visiting. Food and staff were excellent. We did the AYCE lunch. It’s a great value for what you get. We sampled a little bit of everything both off the conveyor belt and the menu. The sushi was fresh. I especially loved the sashimi plate, the peppered tuna with ponzu, and the yellowtail jalepeno roll. The steak hibachi was also delicious. The food delivery on the robots was novel. We will definitely be back.

We went twice during the soft opening. That will be the only times we visit. Certain staff is lazy and hide in the back and expect others to pick up their slack.

As far as the food. We got sick shortly after eating here. After seeing these other reviews I wish I would have ordered test kits but I did not know that was even an option.

A few of the tables are a bit wobbly and need to be fixed as any little bump moves the table up and down.

The rolls are very Americanized and slathered with sauce so if you like that kind then you are all good.

We will not be returning to this restaurant, sad because this type of restaurant would have been awesome, but I am not willing to risk the safety and health of my family.

It was a cool experience. It's not like the greatest quality sushi, but it was good. I would say the quality is equal to that of a high end grocery store sushi. Mostly what was cool was the service was great and the atmosphere having your food brought to you on like a little train and then on a conveyor belt was just a really kind of cool ambience that I thought was a bit of a niche kind of experience. I would definitely go back.

$29.99 for AYCE

Overall not a bad price for all you can eat sushi, but the fish doesn’t taste good. The quality of the salmon was probably the worst. And the taste of the sushi rice is inconsistent.

Not much comes by on the conveyor belt, so most of what you order has to be on the iPad (unless you’re ordering a special roll).

You can also order hibachi with all you can eat, and that wasn’t too bad.

I’ve only been to one other all you can eat sushi spot in nova, Sushi Queen, and that one tastes a lot better. Not as nice or clean as here though.

THEY ARE POSTING FAKE 5 STAR REVIEWS

To ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones, please be aware of these concerns. My party of three ate at this establishment on October 18, 2024, and we all experienced severe vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, fatigue, headaches, etc.

The Fairfax County Health Department identified the presence of Norovirus along with multiple health code violations at Kanji Sushi. These violations include employees failing to wash their hands, placing ready-to-eat sushi on contaminated surfaces, coughing and sneezing while handling food, and storing raw fish at incorrect temperatures. Additionally, no compensation was offered for our horrendous experience. It’s honestly criminal that Kanji Sushi isn’t trying to be held accountable for these serious issues!

Where do I even start..... We came here due to Tiktok which was the worse decision ever and really ruined our date night. The service is nonexistent as the reviews stated. You order on the Ipad but for the signature rolls, you have to order with the server. Well good luck with that because they come to your table 2 times the whole time you are there, to give you water and give you the check. My water were empty yet it was never filled. We would order sushi and it would literally comes out 20-30 minute for ONE order ... imagine that with the 90 minutes time limit. The conveyor belt idea is what brought us here but on the conveyor belt, there were only fruits and edamame. Not sure if it was because where we sat but we expected to see more sushi. Not only that, our order were incomplete as they would miss a couple items here and there. A couple sat next to us waited 30 minutes for their sushi, never came, inquired the server which they said they will check. They come back informed that their sushi are being made which is false because it literally never came out. I literally could not believe it. The food was okay, not super high quality which is understandable for AYCE. The inside is beautiful which is the only plus from this place. I don't understand the hype at all with this place except the coolness of the conveyor belt, I would rather have spent my time and money elsewhere with better service and experience.

The actual quality of the fish tasted pretty good. The sushi rice wasnt made very well as it was bland so that took away from the experience and quality a little bit. The food delivery system was cool as it was delivered on like a bus. However it was slow. Lastly our waitress didn’t inform us that we could have placed a sashimi order until after we were done. I should have seen it on the menu but I didn’t and wasn’t told. Apparently you can get one order of sashimi per person. In summary maybe I am rating them a bit hard at 3 but I consider the sushi rice quality to be integral and a big part of the meal. Since it wasn’t made well that was a big hit to the rating for me. Additionally the combination of the slow reception of the food and missing the sashimi order were the last two components. Maybe I went on an off day w the rice, so it’s very possible you may have a great experience here. I will def give them another try and hope to rate them 4+ next time if I caught them on an off day.

Subject: Absolutely Disgraceful Experience

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to express my utter disappointment with my recent visit to Kanji Sushi AYCE on 10/8/24. I rarely feel compelled to leave negative reviews, but my experience was so atrocious that it warrants immediate attention.

After dining in at Kanji, I was struck with severe food poisoning symptoms shortly after leaving your establishment. This is not just an inconvenience; it is a serious health concern that reflects poorly on your kitchen's standards. It is deeply troubling to think that a restaurant would serve food that is not only subpar but also potentially harmful to its customers.

The lack of attention to food safety and quality is disgraceful. I expected better from a restaurant of your supposed caliber. Your establishment has not only lost a customer but has also raised serious concerns about hygiene practices.

I hope you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary changes to ensure that no one else has to endure a similar experience.

***CONFIRMED NOROVIRUS OUTBREAK AT KANJI SUSHI***

Get ready Kanji Sushi. You have a handful of lawyers coming for you - including mine.

Me and two other friends ate here on 10/04/24 and witnessed our server handle cleaning chemicals and food at the same time! Hair in our sushi too! All 3 of us got insanely sick (vomitting, diarrhea, sharp stomach pains) and Kanji Sushi did NOTHING ABOUT IT! I revisited the restaurant asking for a simple refund after getting sick from their food and all I got was gaslit into thinking it was my fault I got sick and an email written on spare receipt paper in sloppy handwriting from “John” the manager.

Ate here on 10/1/24 and our entire party of 5 got horrendous food poisoning. I filed a claim with the Fairfax county health department who sent test kits to our home and we all tested positive for norovirus. Basically meaning the restaurant staff was not being clean. I bet they will respond to this review saying it’s always a risk to eat raw fish but the health department told me that I was not the first person to file a claim about this restaurant so they have made a lot of people sick. Eat here at your own risk.

Original Review-(Went there twice the first time everything seemed fine only complaint was that our server didnt know the menu. The problem was with our second visit where everyone in my party got food poisoning.)

Myself and everyone I came with (4 other people) all got horrific food poisoning from this place. We filed a complaint with the CDC and they confirmed many other people have gotten food poisoning - aka Norovirus - from this establishment. DO NOT EAT HERE. IT IS A HEALTH HAZARD!

We went here October 1, 2024. These reviews show that people experience food poisoning here almost every day. Listen to us and save yourself the worst and sickest 3 days of your life.

I’ll start off by saying we’ll never come here again and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, at all. Ariake is ten minutes down the road and more than amazing.

Here’s what happened: We sat down, ordered two beef teriyaki bento boxes, midnight in Tokyo roll, edamame as appetizer and vegetable tempura to top it off.

First problem: My sushi came within 5min of ordering, but no other food came at that moment. So I ate while the rest of the table sat waiting. No biggie, the place is new and working out timing.

Second problem: The “bento boxes” came, but they were just plates of steak over an enormous amount of onions, raw broccoli and white rice. I asked the waitress where the rest of the bento box was, the California rolls, the tempura and she said she placed the wrong order and that she’ll look into fixing it. No problem, we’re easy going.

Third problem: The manager “John” comes by and asks what happened. We started to explain that the waitress explained that she put in the wrong order and we were supposed to get the bento boxes but we instead received something different. Before we could further explain he cut us off and said “ok I’ll go to the back of the house to fix it”. He then proceeds to come back and tell us what we already knew, that the wrong order was placed by the waitress and that it was more expensive. I stated, I hope we aren’t going to have to pay for your mistake, to which he replied, “It’s more expensive and a different meal”. So I bluntly said I’m not going to pay for your mistake. “John” said he would make it right and he brought over 6 pieces of California roll and 4 pieces of shrimp tempura and said “I’m not going to charge you”. I said it’s part of the meal so I would hope you wouldn’t charge me for your mistake.

“John” took 10% off of the bill, when he should have charged us for the two beef bento boxes. I still tipped the waitress because she was sincerely apologetic. But we will not be coming back again and it’s because of “John’s” lack of accepting responsibility for a mistake.

We will gladly travel to Ariake, a much better sushi restaurant with an amazing manager who actually solves problems correctly.

Losing a tab to a mistake is worth a local customer coming back over and over because of a great first experience. I suggest you choose Ariake instead.

We came in for 10 people and after about 40 mins we were seated in two separate tables. I really wanted to try this place because they had AYCE and the conveyor belts, but there was nothing there! We had to place 100% of our orders through the tablet and even then it took 30-40 minutes for the dishes to come out. The food also came out in weird waves, the dessert came, then the sushi, then the hibachi, and then our appetizers were just completely skipped. Although the service and food was actually pretty good, there are other AYCE places that serve better food at faster times. The whole appeal of this restaurant is the conveyor belt, and they did not meet the expectations we had. I’d rather go elsewhere for the same AYCE sushi that doesn’t have these problems.

WARNING: FOOD POISONING HERE WILL SEND YOU TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM

I ate here on October 5, 2024.

I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Kanji Sushi AYCE was so unfortunate that I feel compelled to share. Let’s just say it wasn’t a wonderful journey; it was more of a detour to a medical emergency. I have medical receipts for everything!!!

The service was SO slow (we got our food 45 minutes after ordering) only to get sub-par sushi. The server was so rude as well.. giving our table snarky remarks every time she stopped by.

If you’re looking for a meal that will send you running to the nearest restroom, then by all means, visit Kanji. Otherwise, save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that actually prioritizes food safety and quality. Trust me, your stomach will thank you.

WE ALL GOT FOOD POISONING

1. Thursday Oct. 3 when we first initially came in, the service was very slow but when we asked nicely to our server if we ordered on the tablet correctly she gave us a dismissive attitude and brushed it off. When our food came out almost 45 mins later the manager came out to explain to us why our food took so long in a lecturing manner making us the customer feel incompetent.

2. because the manager was explaining to us why our food was taking so long she said they tried to make it as fast as possible, we later found HAIR IN OUR SUSHI.

3. after finding hair in our food we lost our appetites so we went up to pay and bring up the discrepancy to the front counter, someone else from the front went to go get the manager but our server printed out our check and was rude and pushy when we told her we were waiting for the manager.

LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER TWO OF US WERE HOSPITALIZED AND ONE WAS SEVERELY SICK AND BED RIDDEN

I had a fantastic experience at Kanji Sushi for their All You Can Eat lunch! For $30 per person, the variety and quality of the sushi were definitely worth it. Every roll and piece of nigiri we tried was fresh and delicious. The presentation of the food was visually appealing, and you can tell they take care in preparing each dish.

The restaurant itself is very clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The service was also excellent—our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we always had everything we needed. For the price and the quality, it’s one of the best AYCE sushi spots I’ve been to.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a satisfying sushi experience without breaking the bank!

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My friend and I ate here, and within hours we were violently ill. We spent the night in absolute misery, thanks to the disgusting, obviously bad sushi they served us. How is this place even allowed to stay open yet alone trending on social media?

I love sushi and spend 4 years in Japan so I’ve had my fair experiences… this food poisoning has been going on for 3 days now and I came to a conclusion to never eat sushi again. This is by far the worst food poisoning I’ve ever experienced.

This isn’t a restaurant—it’s a health hazard. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Stay FAR, FAR away unless you enjoy a trip to the ER.

Additionally, not that it matters because your health should be your number 1 concern but the “all you can eat in 90min” is ridiculous as well. You’re waiting for your first order for 25+ min. They also don’t have their liquor license.

Review:

The food was good, and the service was friendly and attentive. Since they just opened, they’re still working out some kinks, but overall, I enjoyed the experience and will definitely come again.

For future customers, here are a few tips to enhance your visit:

1. Menu Information: The menu on the tablet doesn’t show what’s in each dish, which can be a little confusing. To avoid this, ask for a printed menu—it provides detailed descriptions of each item. I’m sure they’re working on updating the tablet, but for now, this is the best way to know what you’re ordering.

2. Ordering Tip: This advice comes directly from the server: avoid placing large orders all at once. Try to limit each order to no more than 3 items. Placing too many items in one go can “clog” up the kitchen’s queue, delaying both your food and the food of others. Ordering in smaller batches helps the kitchen fulfill orders more quickly and ensures you don’t have to wait too long for your meal.

Overall, it’s a great spot with lots of potential, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they continue to improve!

Food was good for an AYCE sushi buffet, but service was close to nothing. My friends and I waited a whole hour for our food (that never came). When our server finally came by to check in on us, we had to replace the entire order and was suggested to place half of the original order because it would take too long for the order to come out. As we replaced our order, we waited for another half hour before telling our server to cancel the order and provide us the check. At this rate we had about a 2.5 hour seated time and about 2-3 checkins from our server who just kept asking us if we wanted ice cream instead of providing any other sort of service.

We understand its a newly opened restaurant and employees are new and still getting acclimated to the demand, but all we’re asking is to provide at least the bare minimum. We were never asked if we wanted any refills on our water, our server came by maybe 2-3 times just to ask if we wanted dessert, and ultimately wasn’t helpful in remediating the situation after waiting 1.5 hours collectively for food that never came out. I hope the restaurant is able to iron out the details because there is still a lot of potential.

Best,
Highly unsatisfied customer

I was really excited to try this place out because I love revolving sushi places but when my husband and I went for lunch on a Thursday, they told us that the conveyer belt doesn’t run during lunch Monday-Thursday. I understand there being less demand on those days and them making the decision to have servers bring the food out instead but the fact that that’s not mentioned anywhere is really frustrating. If they had made that clear then my husband and I would have chosen to come on a different day or at a different time. We left before we ordered because the reason we drove there was for the conveyer belt. Hopefully I can update this review in the future if we go back when the conveyer belt is turned on.

Found Kanji on Tiktok and was excited to try a new AYCE sushi, but it's different! Waited for about 45 mins for a table when we got there at 7:00pm on a Sunday. Please be patient with them! It's a new business and y'all, honestly I want them to keep thriving cause the only other place that's revolving sushi is Kura and Wasabi in Tyson's Corner.

The food was really tasty compared to the other two restaurants where the rice actually sticks and everything we ate there, we didn't have one bad food item we didn't like.

$65 for two people for AYCE compare to the other two restaurants you pay per plate. Whenever we went to Kura sushi, we would spend more than $65 and Wasabi is like a lunch stop restaurant. They are having a soft opening, so it's 10% off at the moment, but hey... At this point take all my money.

The lighting and atmosphere are so nice. Warm ambience and it's not too loud also. 4 TV to keep y'all entertained. And the ordering tablet is on the table instead of right above your head at Kura Sushi. Even though y'all, putting the plates in the slot is fun and entertaining because it entices you to eat/spend more, you need to put in 30 plates and 30 plates y'all between 2 people, you're looking at a $100+ bill for a toy.

I understand Kura sushi has it's pros and cons. The taiyaki ice cream makes it low key want to go there just for the dessert alone along with more varieties at their menu and it's a fun place to go with others because there's actually something there for everyone, but it can get expensive really fast.

Wasabi is place in the middle of the mall next to the food courts. It definitely fulfill the craving for sushi, quick and efficient, and you get what you paid for. Not a bad place for lunch.

Please be kind to this new business as they're still growing!

First thing first it’s all you can eat if you are expecting Michelin star you are the dumbest person I can meet.

The food in the establishment is great the way you order food is off a tablet, some foods you can’t order off the tablet because they are really trying to control food waste so you have to get your server to help you

If you even had Kura it’s like that but with a lot more items.

The servers are moving a lot so if you want their attention get their attention of not they will miss you ( again they are working a whole line of tables)

Over all great food for what it was a lot better than Kura especially for the price.

I would recommend if their tablets to have a call server button would make their lives easier

Side note: take out is cool but why not just eat in if it’s the same price ???

The kitchen hot foods came out pretty promptly and were pretty good actually. The sushi came out very slowly. I can understand that being soft opening but what I don't understand is what comes out does not match the quantity you had ordered and not everything you order would come out. Their speciality rolls that you order on their tablet do not have descriptions and some do not even have pictures; so basically you're just eating a surprise roll. Definitely not worth the $30 price tag. It's more like a $25 ayce sushi place. Not many choices very basic. Don't even have sweet shrimp and scallops. The $5 fee is for the decor I guess including their conveyor belt revolving style system which sucked. Was basically empty and restocked slowly and only had desserts circling around. I understand it was busy but that's your restaurant's theme with the steep price they charge for it but they made it felt gimmicky.

We got sat pretty fast. However, our experience here was by far the worst I’ve experienced. You get better service at chick fill a than here.

Once we got sat, our server came by and barely explained anything. Just how to order on the iPad. Took our drink orders and never came by to ask us how we were doing. She only came by to pick up empty plates. We were told that we have a 90 minute time limit. We waited 60 minutes for our first order of sushi to come. Another thing is when you order takoyaki or dumplings. We only got two pieces per order. The revolving conveyor belt was probably the most useless thing there because you barely saw any kind of sushi on it. It would literally be a singular item on a plate on the revolving conveyor belt.

We ended up leaving early because we did t want to wait another hour for our second round of sushi to come by and that would have put us over the 90 minute time limit. I rather spend $100+ at kura than here.

I would give it a 0 if I could.

Solid AYCE sushi bar that just needs a bit more time to get situated. It just recently opened so food coming out of the kitchen is a little slow due to low staff(?). It took about 15-20 mins to get 6 nigiri on the top delivery tray, which feels relatively slow compared to other similar sushi places. I think it'll be worth going to in a month or so once they get familiar with lunch rush and stuff

This place has potential, but has a bit to go. The good is really really good but... The lack of food available drove me a bit nuts, having went for ayce. I went a bit after they opened so there was no wait (compared to hearing there'd be a 30 min wait for a table while I left), but there was barely any dishes on the conveyor belt. So as a result we ordered through the tablet and that took 30-40 minutes per order.

Again, when we actually got the food it was delicious but expect to wait a while + hopefully they're flexible with the 90 minute limit until they improve it.

The food, delicious. The wait. Rough! Prepare to spend the full 90 minutes for food. No quick lunch here. Once we got the food it was great. Hot and fresh. We got there 15 min after opening and there was barely any food on the belt. They need more chefs or a bigger kitchen. Could tell the servers were stressed about the wait. If you have a couple hours and arent in a rush its a decent spot. Do not get the sashimi appetizer 🤣

Quality is pretty good especially for AYCE but if you aren't near the kitchen the conveyor belt is so sparse that you aren't likely to get anything you want. (We sat in the middle and the image is typ what we saw) You can order off the tablet but the kitchen is very slow.

We visited Kanji tonight for the AYCE. We had about a 45 minute wait at 7pm for a table of 2 which was okay as I expected them to be busy. After placing our fist order we sat for about 45 minutes before we received the 3 rolls we ordered and only after we asked our server about the wait then our plate was brought out. In the meantime we were selecting sushi and sides off of the conveyor belt which was mostly empty other than many, many plates of melons and cups of mousse (which was delicious!) With a few rare pieces of sushi thrown in between about every 50-75 empty plates Immediately after receiving our first 3 rolls we placed another order because we knew it would take long and we were approaching an hour with their 90 minute limit. After waiting another 45 minutes we had decided we no longer wanted to wait and decided to cancel our order and leave. We ended up paying $65 and sitting for nearly 2 hours for 3 sushi rolls and a few bits and pieces from the conveyor belt, which is not ideal for AYCE. Our server Peter was great, he was friendly and attentive, but I think Kanji has a lot to work out before they are able to handle the kind of crowd they saw tonight, they just couldn't keep up with orders. None of the plates on the conveyor belt are labeled which is common in many other revolving sushi restaurants and makes it sometimes difficult to identify what you are taking. Despite the very long wait, the food we tried was good quality and delicious. We agreed we would like to visit again in a few months, hopefully once they have figured out how to prep and prepare for a busy night and are able to keep up with orders.

This review is for carry-out during their soft opening. I was very impressed with their selection of sushi rolls, the quality of the ingredients, and the pricing. We took home 5 rolls (spicy tuna, California, and three special rolls), edamame, and gyoza, and finished dinner with our bellies full. The fish tasted fresh, the tempura rolls had a nice crunch, the spicy tuna had just enough spice to give you a kick but not a punch…and everything was extremely flavorful. While they are still working out staffing and service (we waited a bit longer than anticipated for our food), your time and money will absolutely be well spent at Kanji Sushi! Very excited to have them in the West Springfield neighborhood and we will absolutely order from there again.

This review is only for the soft opening, we totally understand everything needs time to be adjusted and they are trying hard that’s why I only took off one star just for the slow service. Been sitting for 1h then only got 1st dish came out. Food is tasty, I
would totally give 5 star for the food. Maybe give them some more time to do better. Also a friendly suggestion: they have 3 sushi chef today, all I seen they were making all you can eat orders that’s prob why ours took so long. Maybe you can have 1 chef making a la cart 2 making all you can eat, then if the 1 for the a la cart is free can help the all you can eat orders. Anyway, we are happy to have you guys in the neighborhood, and good luck!
