I literally just left. The place wasn’t the cleanest so I decided to get my food to go. There was music playing and a full house for the most part. Waitress was nice. Listen….. my spider roll was soooooo good! Best one I’ve ever had! I wasn’t too sure about the orange caviar on top. The sushi was 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Kudos to the chef! (The sushi presentation was better but I pulled it apart).

I got the poke bowl and old towne roll. Sushi wasn’t terrible, and the poke bowl had a lot of complimentary flavors. Once ordered, the food came out quickly. The restaurant it self has a ton of the old building charm that seems to be the theme in Petersburg.

I ordered cucumber sushi rolls, absolutely amazing. Stayed together well, had good crunch, and the sauces they served made it even better. Also ordered California rolls which also stuck together well with fries and chicken tenders. Air fried French fries were crispy and crunchy, chicken tenders weren't mine so 🤷🏻♂️. The only problem is that the tables were filthy, sticky with crumbs and dried drinks.. we switched tables and still had the same issue. Fresh out the wash dishes also still had some sort of food on them, not sure what it was so we just didn't use the tray. Came with chopsticks (and instructions!) soy sauce on each table. Our order came with ketchup, ranch and chili sauce as well. Also!! Got to try wasabi for the first time and almost lost my tongue.. excellent service, however cooking is very slow even if there's only 2 or three other people.

Loved the old town vibe and the friendly service. We stopped in to satisfy a sushi craving and we were not disappointed! They have some great recipes for their signature rolls. A nice touch was the ‘Martini’ bar with lots of different martini ideas! We had a good time and I definitely recommend.

My wife and kids went to this restaurant last night. We haven’t been in over a year because the last we went the service was horrible. Well this time was no different. My chicken filet sandwich was cut up and placed on my sandwich like I was a little kid. The waitress hardly checked on us and the server gave us no utensils to eat with. The waitress claimed she was going to give us a 50% discount on my food due to it being horribly wrong she gave us a 10% discount ($2.00) off. Our sushi didn’t come until we was almost done with our food (we ordered it before our food) and they weren’t rolled all the way because they were coming apart. Needless to say I don’t think we would be returning to this restaurant again.

I get lunch from here quite often with the Philly Roll being my favorite sushi order. I typically get it to go and it's always perfect. The servers and staff are always really nice and the chefs chat with you while they are working which is cool.

It had been a little while since I had eaten with you guys. I went to the online menu to order and ordered the lobster roll; at 9.95$And the Philly cheese wrap at 9 $ . I was charged 34$ with tax and when I questioned the bill she told me the prices had doubled. Not cool to have different prices with the same menu items. The lobster roll was horrible and I would have to agree that the quality of the food has gone down as the prices have gone up

We’ve eaten at Wabi Sabi from the early days. It was always my first choice for our anniversary or date night. Crab dip and sushi, for decades. We hadn’t been in a while and heard things had changed, but for me, date night means Wabi Sabi.
The crab dip seemed like nothing more than melted cream cheese with a little crab (instead of the high flavor full-of-crab dip I remembered), but I was mostly looking forward to the sushi and didn’t worry much about it. BUT when the our four sushi rolls arrived, I was confused. At first, I thought it was brown rice, but it soon became evident (from the crunch) that the rice wasn’t cooked. We showed the waiter and he asked the manager, who first said she wasn’t doing anything to fix it and then when we asked the waiter to check again, took 10% off two of the rolls (which took $3.60 off our bill). You can see in the picture the rice was so undercooked it’s almost clear. I’m sort of heartbroken, to be honest, because Wabi Sabi was the only restaurant where I absolutely ALWAYS wanted to eat, both for the food and for the fun memories of sitting in the same booth where we mapped out our young lives years ago. We won’t be back.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but it’s such a shame. We loved coming here for years. We couldn’t even finish the sushi. Rice was way under cooked. Quality has dropped quite a bit. With the price they charge, race shouldn’t be an issue. Manager would only discount 10% on two of the rolls. Breaks my heart.

Very laid back atmosphere but all of the staff are so nice, polite, and patient with the customers. I have traveled and eaten all over the US and its Territory's, and Wabi-Sabi is in my short list nation-wide of great places to eat!

I waited 45 minutes just for one roll of sushi. Never coming here again
Visited 5 months ago
We went on a Saturday night at 630pm. The place was mostly empty. We only had an hour, so we didn't have time for our normal sushi experience (several rounds of rolls to sample the menu), but we had heard great things, so I wanted to give it a chance while we were on that side of town. Unfortunately, this place was hyped up that my expectations were that Wabi Sabi was going to be on point.
To get an idea of the quality of their fish, I asked for a sashimi appetizer. The waiter let me know that they didn't have one. No big deal. I asked if he could get a recommendation from the chef. After all, who knows the quality of fish better? The waiter came back to let us know that the chef doesn't have a recommendation on sashimi (should have been a red flag) but we went with the waiters recommendation of the basics: tuna and salmon, along with an eel roll. The couple with us ordered an alligator roll and crab dip.
Despite several visible chefs working, and the restaurant being mostly empty, our appetizers didn't arrive for 45 minutes. This is only relevant because of our time crunch. Seemed way too long to prep such a small order, but not too terribly bad. I asked for the check before our food arrived, because I knew we were low on time and didn't want to risk being late.
The sashimi was served BEAUTIFULLY. The tuna was presented as a rose, with the salmon plated to complement. The cuts were thinner than I expected for sashimi, but again, no big deal. The tuna was decent, but didn't match the quality I had been told to expect. The salmon was limp and tasted like it was bought at a supermarket a day or two before. I'm not suggesting that's what they did, but that was the flavor and aroma that it had. The eel roll also disappointed, as it was a pricier roll without the draping cut of juicy eel you would expect across the top. Instead, there was an undersized portion of eel inside the roll, and the rice was undercooked and had a firmness that you wouldn't want.
Our friend with the alligator roll enjoyed it. Our friend with the crab dip said it tasted like she was served warm seasoned cream cheese, and that there was no crab flavor.
When the served brought back my card, I did my best to mask my disappointment, but he could tell that I wasn't pleased with what we had been served. I didn't ask him to fix anything nor did I want to speak to a manager. We were in a rush and needed to go. However, as we were standing to leave, a manager walked up and wanted to talk about our experience. We didn't have time, as we were actively trying to leave. Admittedly, I was short on words because I wasn't trying to have a conversation, however she seemed to take offense at me not wanting to discuss the issue. We paid our tab and made our way out, but not before the manager sarcastically called out to us "Come back and see us again."
Ironically, that manager ended up attending the event that we were going to after dinner. The enormous eye roll she decided to throw our way is the only reason I'm taking the time to voice my dissatisfaction.
1. I'm sorry that you didn't get the explanation you wanted about the lackluster food we received, but we aren't obligated to talk to you about it just because you ask. We didn't ask to talk to a manager.
2. The sarcastic callout and the eye roll later that evening were completely uncalled for. You mad about something? Act like an adult. You deserve only 1 star in service for the way that you acted, but our waiter did a fine job and doesn't deserve to be dragged.
3. For a restaurant with a great reputation, this was the opposite experience that I would have expected.

Sat down at restaurant and had water brought to the table, both glasses has black specs floating around in them. I am assuming it is from not cleaning their ice machine. We brought it to the waitresses attention and she didn’t even apologize, we promptly left. Can’t speak to her the quality or cleanliness of the food.

Visited this establishment yesterday, craving some good sushi......highly disappointed. The waitress did not explain that the Volcano Rolls were totally RAW. The Pita chips were nice and warm, but very salty.

First time here and will definitely be the last. SLOW, and I mean SLOW service. An hour and a half for 2 rolls and a poke bowl that was mostly rice. Other people came in well after we had ordered, and they got their food before we did. Poke bowl was 90% rice. Sushi was mediocre at best. The benches you sit in are uncomfortable, especially when you have to sit for so long waiting on food.

The menu and preparation of foods seemed to have changed. I remember who dat roll was baked with no raw ingredients. Now it's different...the prices have skyrocketed also. Just a different everything it seems. The food I've had was decent. The sushi seems different now. I have to learn them again but I doubt i will due to prices.

First time here and also last time.server was great; very sweet and helpful. However, the food was mediocre at best, especially for the price. The crab dip was good but the pita was extremely salty, I liked how they were homemade though. The rolls were falling apart& display was sloppy. One of the women making the rolls ,had a mask “on” (just over her mouth, not her nose. when it was “on”)was coughing and not even attempting to cough away from the food. She only wore the mask occasionally, most of the time she was seen with the mask below her chin. She also was eating while actively making the rolls, as in crumbs on her face , chewing with her mouth somewhat closed. Then,it took us almost an hour to get 3 rolls..& to top it off,my partner found a bone in his sushi. If you’re desperate, maybe try it out. But there’s definitely better spots you could spend your money. $61 for mid rolls and crab dip that could’ve been spent elsewhere where& enjoyed it.

Atmosphere is a disjointed combination of hole-in-the-wall, americana, Hard Rock Cafe, and eastern-asian. Nothing gross, but confusing.
Service was 4/5 for friendliness, but for as empty as the restaurant was at the time, I'm dropping it down for attentiveness.
The lumpia seemed like it was purchased at Costco. The 1 sushi roll I had was average, and I had to ask for more wasabi than the 1/2 tsp it came with. They have a burger section on the menu, but they had no buns in stock. The creole pasta was soupy, but maybe it's meant to be.
Overall, we weren't put off by the experience, but given the prices, we will probably go onve every other month or so as we try other menu items.

Yikes. Some of the worst service I’ve ever had at a place during lunch hours. The server was forgetful and slow. Then the food came and it was subpar. My sister only ate one bite of her sushi because the salmon tasted so fishy and she didn’t want to get sick. I got the poke bowl with spicy tuna and it was below average. Maybe it’s because we are from Florida and have way better sushi and poke options there? We were still polite and tipped but we certainly won’t be back.

A friend of mine and I went here for a quick bite, the server sat at the bar playing on her phone in-between orders. The crab dip had an interesting after taste. The pita chips were great! The shrimp tempura roll was basic it's literally a shrimp tempura in a roll. I've worked in 2 hibachi style restaurants this one was by far the worst.

The sushi was divine! The Old Towne Crunch roll was phenomenal, as were the Bagel Roll & Philly Roll. Lovely presentation as well. Husband got the Clobster sandwich & fries & said it was awesome. We decided to get the Gator Bites on a whim & I am SO GLAD we did, they were delicious! I was expecting them to be chewier, but they were tender & the breading was perfect, plus that remoulade was out of this world. Our server Alex A was excellent. He was attentive without hovering & took very good care of us. This is such a cool building as well, & a great atmosphere for a rainy day lunch. :)

I doubt we will be returning. We have been a few times and each time we go it’s the same experience. It takes forever to get your order (2 sashimi and 1 yellowtail roll- 30 mins), they seem to only have one waitress and the food is incredibly expensive for average sushi. 3 sashimi, 2 specialty rolls, 1 standard roll and 2 fountain drinks came to $140. The food is nothing to rave about but not bad. I just can’t believe how slow and expensive they are.

The waitress didn’t pay attention to the order, gave me smoke salmon instead of the sake salmon, replaced it and still charged for full price. My husband and I decided to try a new place and love vegetarian sushi so we tried this place. Big mistake! We paid $57 before the tip, for spring rolls, iced tea, and a Coke, and four vegetarian rolls. The spring rolls came quickly, but they were literally just 4 small spring rolls on a plate with chili sauce. The rolls then took about 45 minutes. And while we waited, we kept commenting on how uncomfortable the booths were. We had just been walking and we’re looking forward to relaxing while eating and it was so uncomfortable. We thought about leaving. When we got our four rolls we were surprised they were small for what we were paying, and they were falling apart. They basically tasted like rice balls, because we could barely taste the vegetables. At that point we just wanted to leave so we immediately asked for our check since no one asked us how the food was, passed the credit card and ran. Kroger and Wegmans veg sushi is better thank this and the price was outrageous. *photo is of our sad, falling apart cucumber roll.

A Culinary Gem in Olde Town Petersburg
Nestled in the historic charm of Olde Town Petersburg, Wabi-Sabi is a culinary gem that masterfully fuses the delightful flavors of calamari and the artistry of sushi. As a seasoned food enthusiast, my recent dining experience at Wabi-Sabi left me enthralled and eager to return.
The moment I stepped into Wabi-Sabi, I was greeted by a welcoming ambiance that beautifully reflects the spirit of Olde Town Petersburg. The restaurant's tasteful decor, with subtle nods to Japanese culture, creates an inviting and relaxed atmosphere that sets the stage for an exceptional dining experience.
My culinary journey began with the calamari appetizer, and it was an absolute revelation. The calamari was impeccably cooked to perfection - tender on the inside and delicately crispy on the outside. The flavors were thoughtfully balanced, allowing the natural taste of the calamari to shine, while the accompanying dipping sauce added a tangy zest that elevated the dish.
Next came the sushi, the crown jewel of Wabi-Sabi's menu. The sushi rolls were an exquisite work of culinary art. Each piece was a harmonious blend of fresh seafood, vibrant vegetables, and expertly seasoned rice, meticulously rolled and presented with precision. The chef's creativity in crafting unique flavor combinations was evident with every bite, making the sushi experience truly exceptional.
What impressed me most about Wabi-Sabi was the seamless integration of traditional Japanese techniques with the unique character of Olde Town Petersburg. The restaurant manages to strike the perfect balance between staying true to its Japanese roots while paying homage to the rich history and culture of its location.
The attentive and friendly staff at Wabi-Sabi enhanced the overall dining experience. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to accommodate individual preferences made me feel valued as a guest, ensuring that I had a memorable time throughout my meal.
Wabi-Sabi is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that celebrates the harmony of flavors and the joy of discovering new tastes. The attention to detail and the commitment to using fresh, high-quality ingredients further cement Wabi-Sabi as a must-visit destination for both calamari enthusiasts and sushi aficionados alike.
In conclusion, my visit to Wabi-Sabi in Olde Town Petersburg was an absolute delight. From the impeccably prepared calamari to the exquisite sushi rolls, every aspect of the dining experience was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to excellence. If you find yourself in Olde Town Petersburg and are seeking a remarkable dining experience that beautifully blends the flavors of calamari and the artistry of sushi, look no further than Wabi-Sabi. Prepare to be transported by the culinary journey that awaits you, and leave with cherished memories of a truly unforgettable meal.

I like this place but the reason for such a low review is because when you sit down and the manager ask you to buy them a shot and then acts like they are just joking. Then I acted like I didn’t hear her just to see if she ask again and she did. One I don’t think no manager should be asking customers to buy them shots and two this is not my first time in here and I have seen this same manager be really drunk while working. That isn’t ok for no business place. I think there needs to be someone else in charge. Everyone else seemed to be ok but the manager was really drunk.

Definitely deserve a 5/5 from me! I usually get the delicious Charlottesville salad with salmon altered to my allergies! Today I wanted to taste these lamb chops I kept hearing about! They were impeccable but what really was a delight to my tastebuds was the seaweed salad! I have never had such a thing and probably wouldn't have ordered it based of the name! However, that is my new go to! The lamb chop portion size is great for the cost but definitely ask for more salad because you'll be sad when it's gone🥰!!! I guess I'll save my Ceasar salad for later, I'm full!!! Oh the staff was great too!!!

Decided to try this restaurant with my husband while visiting the area from NC. Let me tell you,it was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! The Dragon Roll is by far some of the best sushi I’ve ever had! The flavors were bold and rich & the texture was perfect! I’m going to be craving the Dragon roll for a long time now lol! You could tell they really put their all into the menu! The atmosphere was also beautiful & the service was wonderful!

Service was great, but the price for the food is way too expensive. I can go elsewhere and get better quality for better price. Atmosphere was good though.

Rude customer service I was just picking up food and they acted like they didn't want to give me the food. Had me waiting around for 30 minutes before the guy even asked.

Not good. Our server was great but some of the other staff behind the counter were constantly talking very loudly over each other which ruined the atmosphere. The food was below average and extremely overpriced for what it was because it didn’t even really taste like authentic Asian food.
For instance, the Coconut Chicken Curry tasted more like an American stew than an Asian curry so that was disappointing because we didn’t order stew and the Caterpillar Roll literally tasted like a refrigerated California Roll bought straight from a grocery store.
Not impressed and don’t recommend. It’s a one and done and will never eat here again.

My experience did not start off 5 star but ultimately the staff and the food redeemed it. My husband and I were in Petersburg for the day and happened to stop in for dinner. They had a big live music event downstairs and seemed a little short staffed so we expected to have to wait. After about an hour we were told our food had accidentally been given to another table and would take an hour to remake. The manager came to apologize herself and ended up offering to make the sushi herself for us if we were willing to wait. And boy was I glad we waited around! That was some of the best sushi I've ever had. The flavors were all fresh and unique. The staff was so sweet and accommodating given the situation and they even gave us a free appetizer and a discount for our wait. Great service recovery and even better sushi! Will definitely make the drive back down from Richmond anyway.

I won’t be going back to be honest. My server was great, food was okay for the price (but took forever and a day) , the cook could have quieted down so I could enjoy my food without listening to negativity. Sushi King is better

After waiting almost an hour for my food which by the way was very disappointing ! Don't bother who dats it's just overcompensated with Old Bay it has nothing to do with the Great Taste of New Orleans Food. Typical Petersburg want to be Eatery.

I'm traveling from out of town with a pit stop for the night at a local military base. We originally were going elsewhere to eat, but that place was full. We happened upon this restaurant and decided to just check it out. I'm glad I did. First, there was a comedy show going on. Second, the wait staff was limited because of the show. But, that did not interfere with the excellent service we received from this restaurant. The sushi was sushi-ing. The calamari was on point. The chicken lo mein I got was delicious. And the best thing for me, being a southerner, was the sweet tea being brewed. Idk if I'll ever be in the Virginia area again, but I would gladly eat there again. 😋

I found this place on Google and drove all the way there just to be told that they decided to close early and wouldn’t serve me. Very rude. The sign still said “Open” and Google said they were open for two more hours!!

Saw one of my favorite Bands. A full house of super cool people from Richmond, Petersburg and surrounding areas. Friendly and polite crowd. Yes I enjoyed that room 🙂

I usually don’t do negative review like this but I really did not enjoy my experience at this restaurant. Normally when you want sushi, there’s a nice peaceful vibe to enjoy your meal in. This was not the case when I came. After sitting down, there was like some kind of live band in the basement. Our food took really long to come and after it came I had to send it back for the order not being right. The silver ware was extremely dirty so I only chose to eat with chopsticks. The drinks were really expensive and did not have that much alcohol in it. Honestly felt like I was drinking Sunny D. My wife and I doubt that we will be returning.

I've been coming to this place for over 5 years and I've always had great experiences. The atmosphere is great and calm. Really chill space to be in. The food has always been perfect to taste and the drinks are lovely. However on 3/9, I didn't have this experience. The atmosphere was still great and the drinks (they were ok), but the food.... meh. Apparently they're under new/old management and you can tell something just isn't right. The sushi was more spicy than normal. The lamb chops which is usually why I even come to this place, weren't cooked how I asked for them to be. I asked for medium and they gave me well done. The wings look like the ones you get from Sam's club that are super huge with too much steroids in them. All fat and no meat. I was super sad about it because this was my birthday dinner. On the upside, Mandy was super sweet about it and tried her best to accommodate everything and everyone. The manager did also look out for everyone at the table. I'll still go but I just know what to order now. The vibes are still great. 👌🏾
