I order cream pasta and found two cardboards/thick paper in the pasta. First time I didn’t thought it was something from the pasta but then it happened three times so I had to spit it out and see. We called the server she said she’s going to talk to the kitchen and never came back. We waited for 10 min and realized she already came out but didn’t get back to us. So we called her again and she said yea I told the kitchen. So we were like okay? But are you going to do anything about it now? She said NO, I’m not the manager so I can’t do anything and she brought the check. So we asked for the manger and she said the manger is off today. This attitude made me want to write this view. The photo was before and I didn’t take a photo for evidence she took the napkin right away.

Last time I spoke to the manager who said it’s wrong and will address. We ate last evening and was charged gratuity again on the taxes.

A few months ago, I dined at this restaurant with my family and we had a great time. A friend had recommended it for Asian food, and we were pleased to see that there were many options on the menu. The food we ordered was good, but the standout dish was the Tornado Omurice - rice with egg on top. The egg had a silky, creamy texture that paired perfectly with the sauce and rice. The deep-fried roll was okay but nothing noteworthy, and the ramen was decent but not exceptional in terms of taste or quality. The restaurant was spacious and clean, and the service was generally good.

Amazing weekday night dinner! They only had 1 sushi chef who was bombarded with many sushi orders but nevertheless he did an amazing job on all our orders! All 3 rolls we ordered were sooo aesthetic and delicious. We ordered the Dynamite, Treasure Hunter and Pocahontas rolls. We also ordered a shrimp potato from the appetizers and they were very delicious as well. We will definitely be back again soon!

Came here and we had sushi, kahn poong shrimp, and the tornado omurice. Our sushi was phenomenal and I wish I remembered what specifically I ordered so we could order it again. The kahn poong shrimp was great and very unique and is definitely worth trying. The tornado omurice was nice as well but is a bit on the sweeter side so I would ask for the sauce on the side so you could put it on according to your taste. Would definitely recommend coming here to try this place.

My friend and I decided to try this spot since our usual late-night sushi joint was closed. The seating was fast, and initially, the service was fast and attentive. But that's about where the good stuff ended, for me.
The Food: Grocery store quality at sushi bar prices. In the case of the kimchi and miso soup; literally store bought. The sushi honestly reminded me of something I'd pick up from a grocery store deli. The razor clam wasn't cleaned very well either, because I took a bite and crunched right into some grit (either sand or shell). The bulgogi was also overpriced, but it also happened to be the best dish that we had. Needless to say, we weren't impressed.
The Environment: Modern and hip. Clearly tailored for the younger college kid crowd.
The Service: As I stated earlier, the service was fast and attentive at first, but after we ordered, that's basically where it stopped. The young servers got busy hugging customers and sitting down to socialize with them, or got too busy scrolling on their phone at the bar to notice us. We weren't checked on, and the only time we got service was when our food was delivered, or when we stopped them to ask for water and the bill. I understand it was late at night, and I have no issues with them catching up on their phones or with other customers. It just would have been nice to receive a little attention here and there.
The only reason I tipped at all was because it was late at night, and I saw the solo sushi chef doing his best. It was a very pricey $85 bill for a $50 or $60 dollar experience. I also have a sneaking suspicion that I'll need to watch for food poisoning tonight. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience, and unfortunately, I don't think we'll be returning.

I discovered this place a month or so ago. I’ve been 4 times since. I just left after waiting 15 minutes without a single person speaking to me. I was one of three customers. The guy who I think was the bar tender came out of the kitchen several times and said nothing. Finally a waitress emerged but only went so far as the sushi bar where she was typing on her phone. This was at about 4:45 9/30. I drove straight to Tomo where I had fantastic food and service.

I would drink here again, but I don't know if I would eat here again. We had lychee martinis, which were delicious. We ordered gyoza, crab fried rice, Hawaiian roll, pocahontas roll, snow crab roll, and white Russian roll. The crab fried rice had no flavor what so ever other than a tinge of burnt from whatever they cooked it on. We enjoyed the Hawaiian and white Russian rolls the best. The other two were just meh. The atmosphere was fun with a younger crowd for sure. We couldnt hear anything our servers said to us. I wondered why they were so empty on a Saturday, but it made sense.
With so many sushi options in this area there is little reason to return.

Third time here. Second time this week! Servers are attentive. Each time we ordered different rolls, some raw, some flash fried. All very well made. Ordered the Shumai two of the times, both times came out barely warm— could be hotter. Gyozas are amazing! Had an order of bulgogi, this time, and it was so yummy, we ordered an extra one to go!
Sapporo beer could have been colder, for sure. I would have sent it back, son drank it anyway.

The food was not great. Definitely not worth the money. I don't usually write bad reviews but after getting food poisoning from this meal I couldn't just ignore the bad food. I had the katsu curry (tasted ok), the ramen noodles were horrendous, I could have made better shin ramen at home, and the mulhweah didn't have much protein. Service was worse than the food. For a party of 7 people, you would think they would come more than once to the table. A common theme I am seeing in the review section. We never got water refills and were not spoken to when leaving. Will not be coming back and will not be recommending this place :)

Loud music, high prices, small portions that you really wouldn't wanna eat over literally any sushi place that would be way cheaper. Had to remind my server several times before she would do anything. Overall, one of the worst eating experiences that I paid for. One of the tables had a group of very drunk people yelling and I was wondering why they were letting a clearly disruptive group stay and then the lady in the white jacket went in the back of the restaurant. This is a grown adults' play place, not a restaurant, and it shows

You know that weird corporate art style that Facebook created called alegria that you see everywhere now? Imagine what it would be like to eat it and you already have a solid idea of what Lab 1 is all about. Everything from the name to the concept has that generic corporate focus group driven investor vibe. The food is, and I cannot stress this enough, completely unremarkable but the entrees are all like $25 because of course they are. Ah yes, they've used a squeeze bottle to make a zigzag of sauce on a black plate, truly the pinnacle of fine dining. But hey, you probably make low to mid six figs working for the government and you probably have disposable income, so why not waste it on an absolutely mediocre experience to complain to your friends about later? There are so many better options here, don't waste your time or money on garbage like this.

Lab No.1 Asian Bistro is a nice place for casual dining. Have been there a few times, and each time is a good experience. Bit pricey but their portions make up for it. I would recommend trying the sushi (Spicy Tuna, Salmon Roll, mixed platters, etc.) and their ramen (their ramen is a very good portion and could feed 2 people if you wanted to). Overall, a good experience and a good establishment.

Service was very slow, despite our group being the first for the day. 2 out of 5.

Pricing was audacious. Menu was reflective of a top tier restaurant in the city center. 3 out of 5.

I rarely leave low star reviews and I hate it when I have to, but the food is simply unacceptable. I ordered the omurice and I was looking forward to the umami explosion of eggs, fried rice, and bacon. What I got instead was essentially ketchup and rice. It was so incredibly sweet that it made me gag. I tried to redeem it by adding soy sauce to cancel out the sweetness, which worked for a bit, but after a few more bites, I decided that the dish was simply unredeemable. However, my friend got the Katsudon and it was actually pretty good, so it might depend on what you get.

Stop here. Don’t read any other review.
Oh my Gawd.
First you come in and you’re greeted by a hostess with such a kind smile! She had a mask on but you could see her smile through her eyes!
You’re seated and you’re given some menus and space to explore the huge menu with noodles, sushi, pasta, rice dishes, etc. the waitress now comes over with again such a kind smile and so eager to help you navigate between choices.
The food came out in the matter of 5-10 mins of ordering.
What??? So fast? Must taste terrible?? Hell to the no!
Your food comes hot and fresh. Steamy pasta, delicious omirice, and deliciously fresh sushi.
Seriously, on my trip from Boston, to NYC, to Philly, and then to NOVA, I’m so happy to stopped by this place because I had terrible food on my trip that just made my trip so sad.
I’m a restaurant owner of 6 locations and this place made me so impressed. This gem was truly the Christmas miracle I was looking for! Please please support this restaurant!

Good food but not so good service. I sat there for 10 minutes before I had to walk over and ask a waitress if she would wait on us. To make things easy for her we put in our entire order in one fell swoop. After delivering our food, they never came back. I had to get up to ask for the check. I felt kind of stupid tipping someone who only delivered my food. Very weird for a restaurant that presents themselves as high end. It's such a shame when good restaurants are poorly managed.

Sushi was great but the service was not the hottest. I had taken my two twin sisters there to eat for their birthday only for the lady out front telling me the tip wasn’t enough. Personally I’d say it sufficed let alone tip is never required but who wouldn’t leave one? As a paying customer I did my tip duties and she decides to stop my on the way out saying the tip wasn’t enough. Cant say I have ever heard that before. Not sure I feel welcome there anymore. If only zero stars was an option. #1star

I honestly think this place is underrated. They have a range from Japanese, Thai, Korean food and Vietnamese food! I love how I can order sushi and pho if I wanted to without having to go to 2 different places. I have a lot of days when I’m on the fence on what to eat so I feel like I get what I want at Lab No 1 since they have all the variety. So far I’ve tried their sushi, omurice, Don Pas (cream pasta with pork cutlet), and pad Thai. So far everything is good! I think their stronger specialty is sushi and some Japanese dishes. I still have yet to try their Korean dishes which I will try next time!

Their ddukbokki was ridiculously overpriced and super SALTY. When we asked for a new one, it seemed like they added water and brought it back to us. Hmm sus.
Def not worth $16-18 for a bowl of ddukbboki. Also, I get they had some price increase on some of the items but ddukbboki does not consist any expensive ingredients, unless they’re using organic cage free golden eggs and legit fish cakes from Korea. Anyways, it has become an overall mediocre Korean restaurants in nova.

Ordered dinner through Uber Eats. We got a portion of the tonkotsu ramen and volcano ramen each, and we’re disappointed by both. While the broth tasted good and there was a lot of noodles, there was two small pieces of pork in each portion and the egg was cooked incorrectly as well. Hard boiled egg in ramen is a sin! Only jammy eggs please! We have had dinner from
Lab no. 1 twice before but this will unfortunately be our last time. I recommend that the restaurant focus on quality - I’d be happy to pay more for the ramen if they just included more meat in it!

Ordered Pad Thai and was really satisfied! The takoyaki is also really good!

My friend took me here to try and it was so good - i returned 3 days in a row. The tornado omu rice is a must try (absolutely delicious, better than any omurice i’ve had in Japan on my visits) their other foods are also spectacular and of high quality. I’ll be coming here atleaat once a week

My boyfriend and I have been here a couple times and we really enjoyed the jajangmyeon and jjampong. The service is really friendly and I like to stop here for lunch while running errands in Centreville! The jajangmyeon in particular is priced just right, especially for this area and amid ongoing supply chain issues.

I love visiting this place because their Galbi Pho is good. I visited lately and I was disappointed because the price has gone up to 41% increased. The price from $16.95 to $23.95. I understand that most restaurant raised prices but not as much as 41%. I inquired in the government department and I was told that 41% is too much… I would give 0 star if there is an option for it.

Everything was very good. We met family half way to celebrate Thanksgiving and the food was awesome. I don't think we had one bad dish. I will be coming back for sure.

A bit pricey but this place is modern, spacious, clean, and friendly restaurant. I ordered many dishes and all of them were above average.. I will revisit. Galbi Vietnamese noodle is the best.
(updated Oct 30, 2021) - Minus one star. I revisited. Due to the high volume of customers, the kitchen was not able to control the food quality. Everything was a little too much or a little too less. However, still above-average compared to Asian cuisine nearby.

man, I went in expecting this restaurant to be over hyped, but I was so happy to find out how wrong I was. this place is surprisingly good - even my friend was surprised.
we ordered the:
takoyaki
sushi combo for two
tornado omurice
vegetable curry
cream pasta
the takoyaki wasn't bad, but the best part was the presentation. I liked the bowl they used to serve it in (v. cute). We received our omurice and cream pasta around the same time. omurice was surprisingly good....tasted like ketchup to me though. Definitely high in umami from the tomatoes. now my favorite dish of the night has to go to the cream pasta. it was good! creamy, well cooked pasta - delish!
the vegetable curry & sushi combo came out next. vegetable curry almost tastes like what you would get at the supermarket (instant curry). it was a mild curry that went well with everything else. the sushi combo for two was interesting. I wasn't a huge fan of the specialty roll that came with it, but the other pieces were good.
I'd go back for the cream pasta in a heartbeat though. the interior is every hipster's dream. they have seating outside if you prefer (which is what we opted to do). another thing I was surprised by, how busy they were for a Sunday night.

Just a first impression, only ate there once. This used to be a Charlie Chiang's, and still has some of the nice interior design features of that place.
The food seems to be basically Korean Japanese, with some Vietnamese and Thai options too. Plenty of fully Korean dishes also. As you'd expect, there's plenty of sushi and a few types of pho and ramen.
I had gyoza and bun cha.
The gyoza was okay, but wasn't in the Japanese style that I prefer. Instead of soft skin with maybe one pan-fried side, the whole thing is deep-fried and crispy like thai dumplings. The shell has a much stronger flavor than the interior. The sauce is pretty sweet. Japanese style gyoza uses just soy sauce and vinegar, with a little enhancement from stuff like onions or ginger. It's a more subtle flavor.
The bun cha was pretty good, but like a lot of Viet and Korean dishes, you've got to assemble it yourself, and I'm embarrassed to say I don't know the procedure. There's a big bowl of noodles soaking in sweet clear sauce (not to be confused for soup, lol), a cup of lettuce leaves, some pickled veggies, and the meat itself.
In the past I've had kalbi served on a lettuce leaf, with rice as foundation, so I tried layering a few noodles into the lettuce and then loading it up with meat to make a sort of open taco. It's pretty good that way. The vermicelli absorb the sweet sauce and go together well with the beef and lettuce.
The meat itself is extra delicious and to be honest, I'd be fine with just the meat and skip all the extras. My only small complaint is the dipping sauce was very cold, as were the noodles, so trying to mix the noodles with bites of meat quickly cooled down the beef. It's also a bit messy. I'm glad the sauce has most of its fishy flavor diluted because it seems easy to slop it around as you try to get a grip on the noodles.
Service was quick and friendly, no problems at all. And I like the decor. Glass partitions, big wine rack, recessed lighting, a couple of outdoor tables. Plenty of space.
This is not a complaint, just FYI: like most korean places in this area, the music and TV are K-pop, 24/7. I don't mind, the volume wasn't too high, but this type of atmosphere (combined with the goofy chemistry theme) means this place is more fun than fancy. Though after paying $30 with no drinks, it's priced a little fancy.
I will definitely come back.

Horrible Service. We got seated and water was brought to us, but we waited about 10 to 15 minutes for someone to come take our orders. They looked very unorganized. After I saw an employee walk past our table to seat other customers, that was the final straw for me. We got up and left and decided to go somewhere else that had better service.

Heard good reviews about this place but the food was just par nothing spectacular. The rice was hard undercooked. The fish roe soup was frozen and the roe was really dry. I was expecting more of a fusion cuisine but its just regular Korean bar food.

If you have yet to try this place, it is hands down the best sushi you will find in the DMV. My friend and I wanted to order everything off the menu. You will not be disappointed and the vibes inside are 11/10!!

My friend and I visited yesterday and tried the tornado omurice. I think the serving size was good and enjoyed the soup and radish sides that came with it. The service was also very good, they were fast and friendly. Would definitely come back to try something new!

My family and I had a wonderful experience here last night. Frigid and frosty Blue Moon drafts came with proper sized fresh orange slice. Salads were crisp, fresh and a good size, miso was complimentary served with pickled radish, all the rolls and sashimi were FRESH, cool, sizable, bulgogi was perfect! Service was attentive and not bothersome. Loved the tablet ordering by our servers. Presentation was excellent!!! We'll be back - soon!!

I spent $78 on the dinner with my family. Coming back later to check my bank statement i see my card being charged $236. Went to restaurant and ask for clarification the helper refused me answers and gave me a card to call their office if lucky i will get manager if no i have to wait. Ended persisting and manager or whoever came and presented my case still waiting for my refund. I used to love this place but this got me off.
When you go eat here please check your bank statement later.

Great new restaurant in the area serving a variety of Asian options, including sushi. Food was yummy and the sushi was a great quality, tough a tad pricey. We tried a variety of specialty rolls, ramen, edamame, and avocado salad. Only draw back was no kids options.
