Authentic Japanese Sushi Ramen bar
It all started when my best friend and I individually drove past Sushi Jin and somehow both said “hey we should try that Sushi place on the corner!”. Well we tried it out one night, and the rest was history. In the time she lived in Arlington, we ate at, or ordered Sushi Jin at least once a week. The restaurant is comfortable and modern, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Every time is just as good as the last. The extensive and creative vegetarian options are so delicious and delightful. A true testimony to how sushi can still be just as unique and satisfying- yet plant based. I find this to be a rare quality in sushi offerings elsewhere. They are all amazing choices, but the fried avocado roll is my favorite item on the menu. The spicy Mayo is always just right. The grilled edamame is incredible. They know what they’re doing. Eventually my best friend moved away, so I don’t find myself going there as often without her but she will frequently text me about how much she misses it too. It will forever be a very special place to me. Sushi Jin is hands down the best sushi. Love you guys.

I have placed online orders here about 3 or 4 times now, and I'm very impressed with the quality and taste of their fish. I have gotten a sashimi bowl, sushi rolls, and poké bowl and have been impressed with the quality and quantity. A few times I have had to bring part of my lunch home because it was more than I could eat. My order has always been expertly prepared, the restaurant is clean and well organized, the staff is friendly and capable. I will continue to order from Sushi Jin.

Nice little quiet sushi place. The ramen could be better, it only comes with a half of an egg and not the whole egg like other places. We felt the flavor could improve. The sushi we got was ok compared to other places. Cheaper that other places tho. The server was nice and polite.

I will start this by saying I lived in Japan for a year and had just returned. So, I have been trying to find ramen that will help with my cravings.
This was not it. The ramen was not bad by any means. It was actually good for America. It did not hit like bowls back in Japan.
I will say that after taxes and a small tip, this bowl of ramen was $20. Ramen is a budget food in Japan. Lots of places keep the cost low despite raising costs, because they know it's a budget food. $20 for ramen is not appropriate. It's not just Sushi Jin, though their price is in line with other shops.
Now, the atmosphere was jacked. The place is nice and clean. But there is very little Japan vibe here. They even played country music while I was there. They need to rethink what they are trying to convey here.
Also, for a place so small, they don't need the 15 staff they had.
Would I recommend this place? If you are really hurting for ramen and have not found a more authentic place, then yes, the food is good. Otherwise keep looking

As a person with soy and wheat allergies it's always a challenge to find a restaurant that will not only accommodate these allergies but also be reliable in doing so. We had dinner with friends and children there last night and not only did the staff go above and beyond the many many individual needs of the kids they also took the time to clarify and elaborate on what options I had. One of the managers went as far as to circle individual sushi options that were soy and wheat-free for me to make things easier. The atmosphere was great, kid-friendly, there's a patio outside which we didn't use because it was raining but looked nice, and the staff was incredibly attentive.

One of the best sushi places for Vegetarians. My best so far in the DMV area.
So many vegetarian options to choose from which is rare. Tried these 4 options for now and loved all 4. The pumpkin soup was just superb. Flavorful and comforting.
- Lemongrass Tofu
- Crispy Kimchi
- Sweet Potato Business
- April
Based on my experience, im sure all options are superb but will try new options next time.

Went there for lunch. Instantly loved the chill vibe. Type of place you can dress up or be casual. Service was fast, on point, and everything was absolutely amazing! I eat a plant based diet and the options were awesome. Johnny ensured to help guide me when I was unsure and the taste of every dish was incredible. Definitely will come back and bring friends!

‘This review is for the Ramen only’
I ordered the kimchi Pork ramen, it came out insanely temperature hot. The broth was very flavorless and what little flavor it did have, was drowned out by the kimchi.
Boiled eggs were pretty tasty. The pork was okay.
Wouldn’t come here for ramen. I’ll try the sushi next time

It was okay. I expected more from the reviews. I ordered one basic sushi roll that was pretty good. However, I ordered the kimchi ramen and it was very off-putting for me. I love both Korean and Japanese style kimchi and I am really not sure what was going on with the flavor of kimchi they used for the dish.
The person I was with ordered chicken ramen and it was fine.

Disappointing experience: ordering online costs 10$ more than the actual cost, even if I picked the order in person and it was NOT delivered to me. So, I just payed for a service not requested and not provided. Also, as we had more time, we wanted to eat inside but the staff would not allow that as “the order was placed online”. This was a really disappointing experience from both the restaurant and doordash. The food is ok though.

I've been coming here regularly for a few years now. At the beginning, amazing! Dining in or out, nothing ever missed. After a while, the chicken karage started to be served reheated. Fried foods don't reheat well, and it was a bummer. This consistently happens if ordered right when the dinner hour opens, which means the lunch chicken karage is reheated. It's very obviously not fresh. That has been the case the last 4x we've ordered the chicken karage - despite specifically requesting a fresh batch. The sushi flavors are still unmatched. However, they are about 1/3 smaller than they used to be. I used to barely be able to fit the sushi rolls in my mouth, and after eating just one, I couldn't eat any more. They were that filling. Now, they're about grocery-store size. The size has increased significantly over the last few months. I understand inflation, but I struggle with price increase coupled with size reduction coupled with quality reduction. Such a bummer, because I have loved this place since day one. And for a few years, in or out, the sushi was always on point. Last time we ordered out, the (tempura) rolls were cold - not room temperature - cold. Made me suspect I'd been given an old roll, which was a real bummer. Again, flavors are not matched anywhere else. Prices are still decent, but it's just not anywhere near how it was. :(

Lies about their prices on their website. Very deceptive. Food is fine, average ramen joint.

Sushi is slathered in a sauce that can only be described as “contamination” whether you want it or not. Music is way too loud, sake is always out of stock and the sushi chef cuts the slice far too thick. More like steak bites than sushi. Just don’t bother.

Just walked in there asking to place an order to go and was told I can’t get lunch, they just closed for lunch time. I walked in at 2:08, the sign on their door and on Google says lunch until 2:30. Multiple people at tables. Terrible business practice, won’t be going back.
Visited 6 months ago
I’ve been to this sushi place before several times and tried to go Sunday night; they have it listed on Google that they close at 9:30 PM. We arrived at 8:45 PM. The “Open” neon sign was lit up so we went inside.
We found three people at the front counter and a woman told us “I’m sorry, we are closing.” I told them that they have it listed online as closing at 9:30 PM. She said:
“We’re only doing carry out because it would take too long to order and be waited on and all of that.”
I said that I didn’t need time to order because I knew what I wanted, this sashimi entrée they have on the menu which is all salmon, maybe a large Sapporo can and that’s it. My friend wanted the same thing, because we’ve had it before.
The woman still said no and told us all they’re doing is carry out now and asked if we wanted to look at the menu. We asked to speak to the manager about this but she stated that she was the manager.
I worked in the service industry for a long time. For restaurants, or for retail, it almost never matters when the store closes. Sometimes people get in a couple minutes under the wire and get waited on and get to stay until they leave. I wasn’t even asking for that. We arrived 45 MINUTES BEFORE CLOSING and thought we could at least be seated. We weren’t trying to keep them there late, but even if we did, in the industry that happens all the time.
I told them that they should put online that they close at 9 PM if they want to treat customers like this.
We tried to make it easy for them even, by telling them what we wanted and we didn’t need special time to order or anything. I would expect more than the staff of a restaurant acting like a DMV call center employee saying “I’m sorry but there’s nothing we can do.”
I’m going to get a table, what am I expected to do? Come in two hours before closing???!!
Absolutely unacceptable.
Everybody needs to know that this place treats customers like crap like this.

This is my go-to spot for ramen and hamachi! Everything is always served perfectly, and the servers are attentive. I love topping my nigri with their pickled jalapeños and they always top my order of extra sushi rice with the best seasoning! The restaurant is small but it provides such a warm and comfortable atmosphere. I feel like I'm really stepping into a restaurant in Asia when I go here.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times and recently I had an event where I needed some catering and chose to do it with them .... honestly I was surprised, it was an order for about 30 people and they were pretty accomodating with my carry out order, they provided all the things i needed and the platters turned out looking pretty good, and not to mention they were pretty fast with finishing the order... I definitely recommend trying them out if you need catering or even for just a quick meal... the nagoya unagi roll and the geisha are my top 2!

Only reason I give an overall 4 star is due to the lack of pad tai and no veggie rice which made no sense. Overall great place to eat just check the menu before going to ensure they have what you are looking for. Their salmon sushi is great and highly recommended

One of the best sushi restaurant option for vegetarians in DMV, hands down!! Too many options to choose from, our go-tos are Crazy Jungle, Dangerous Caterpillar and Veggie Futomaki. Parking is limited, ambiance is good and service great as always. Definitely a repeat customer every time we are in the area.

I went here and the food was good. I had the chicken katsu bun. It was okay but not very seasoned. The unagu Nigiri was delicious and the kimchi pork ramen. I also had the Thai tea. I didn't finish it because it was too sweet. I prefer a stronger tea to balance out the sweetness. Overall, I'd definitely go back.

I came to this restaurant just for ramen 🍜
Unfortunately i was very disappointed 🤮
Idk what they did to the broth but it was really bad, very salty felt oily idk very weird taste.
I complained and they didn’t even try to apologize or even offering a discount. I give them the ramen back and ordered a fried ice cream which was nasty too omg 😨 the taste was really bad.
When we check out to my surprise they charged me for the ramen which I give back completely full. So I paid for it to not make a big deal but I will never go back to this place.
What a waist of money.

I been to a several sushi and Ramen restaurants
But this place is in another level.. the ramen soup was nasty 🤢 I have never tried such a bad Ramen soup, my daughter and I ordered ramen soup we did 2 , 3 bites and we told the waitress how bad they were. Even the waitress told us sorry, we been trying to improve the broth 🤯 since people been complaining about it. and they didn’t even bother to take it out of the check.. not even one of them. we didn’t eat it at all. My husband order sushi and he think it was good.
But I am amazed of all of those good reviews 😖 I though, with all of those good reviews let’s try it out.
Please don’t waist your money here.
At will never recommend this place 😖🤢

I used to live near the Sushi Jin in Silver Spring and was so excited to see this location open up in Alexandria.
The service was excellent - they were quick, accommodating with splitting the bill, and very friendly.
The food was phenomenal - they have a lot of classic rolls but a ton of unique ones - the Shrimp vs Crab is my all time favorite. The presentation of the rolls was stunning and the quality was so high.
We all agreed this is our new permanent sushi spot.

We ordered takeout, so this review is for food only. We’d been looking forward to trying this place out for a little while and in all likelihood, will not be returning. We ordered three sushi rolls, two of which were vegetarian rolls and the pork ramen. Both were mediocre at best. The sushi rolls are huge and messy, but not in a good way. The sweet potato in the roll was undercooked. The other two rolls had a lot of rice which overpowered the ingredients inside the rolls. The pork ramen was tasteless, lacking any sort or discernible flavor. This was an expensive disappointment and would never recommend this restaurant.

I've done both eat-in and take out. The lunch specials here are a good deal. The price is comparable to other Japanese options in the region. Food is tasty and reliable. I ordered lunch for my whole office and it was ready within 20 minutes! I was able to satisfy vegetarians, non-pork-eaters, non-fish-eaters, and meat-lovers-- something for everyone! I'm pretty sure the bento boxes are bigger when you do take out (not complaining!).
Parking: Park in the Harris Teeter underground lot for free

Not only did they mess up my order twice tonight, my bf was charged almost triple by accident. Which he then commented and asked her to fix. Then instead of processing a refund they voided it. Who knows when he’ll get his money back. The order only gave me two pieces of shrimp in my shrimp tempura order. I paid 9$ for two pieces of shrimp with soggy vegetables. Tried to call and they ignored my calls even though they were not closed yet. Do not order take out from here.

Ordered Shrimp Tempura and Miso Soup to-go for my sick girlfriend, originally get charged over 22$ come to find out my order was incorrectly put in. The cashier proceeds to void the payment method rather than processing a refund (who knows how long it will take for me to get my money back). When I get home and open the shrimp tempura there is only 2 pieces of shrimp with 2 onion rings, what looks to be like 2 pieces of zucchini and 1 carrot? In what world is charging almost 10 dollars for 2 pieces of shrimp tempura and a few fried vegetables worth it? Also the vegetables are not even crispy, extremely soggy. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. please have corporate reach out to me as I need a full refund for my order.

Very rude customer service. The time for closing for lunch is clearly stated as 2:30PM. I drive all the way to this location and arrive at 2:05 to be told VERY RUDELY by the supposed manager that they will not serve me. To which, I reply that your hours should be until 2PM if I can not be served at 2:05. The servers reply was “that doesn’t make any sense.” I was literally turned away and wasn’t allowed to order with 25 minutes left. A waste of my time and gas. So if you can’t get there by 2, do not go. I will never go back again after being refused service for no reason.

Ordered simple three rolls: shrimp tempura, spicy california, and salmon avocado. Spicy california was okay but they don't make it with spicy crab meat like most sushi places do. Shrimp tempura could be better; I know that sushi bars usually make the tempuras beforehand in preparation but this one was very cold and their eel sauce on top was slimey. Salmon avocado; salmon was too fishy for my liking.

Place is just good. Staff is amazing and the food is always consistently good! It always has this feel if a neighborhood ramen shop in Japan. Been there so many times, def a recommend if you are looking for a great Ramen place in the area!!
Visited 2 years ago
I'm not sure if this is a neighborhood restaurant that people are prideful of which influences and skews the ratings higher, but on this night nearly everything fell short of expectations.
The service is generally very good, but the food was underwhelming to say the least. First, the chicken karaage, a staple, was as bland as I've ever had. It was plentiful and properly cooked, but after two pieces felt like a complete waste of calories - it was boxed up and it will be reinvented at home with a flavor infusion. The tempura was fine, but didn't help with the overall cause of this place. The miso soup was also pretty basic. The best part of this place was the sashimi, which were healthy portions and pretty fresh.
One last impression... After we ordered, three apps and two soups, everything came at once, within five minutes, as if everything has been precooked. That's speculation on my part, but it felt that way.
We had high hopes, but on this night things didn't click here.

My boyfriend and I have tried a lot of sushi in the area. Top notes: it smelled weird as soon as we walked in, the sushi was not good (we barely ate it other than the very basic rolls. The smoked salmon made me sick to my stomach), and the service was terrible. They brought us the wrong roll, the waitress was argumentative when we told her, and we were still charged for it.
Don’t go here - drive ten more minutes to Asahi in Courthouse.

Bottom Line:
There are a million Ramen places in the area, this doesn't need to be one.
Beverages:
Good selection of beers and wines. Charging $12 for a Sapporo: 3x market price of a single can. Probably better to skip.
Atmosphere:
Ok, decent music selection. Cold. Sticky Table.
Food:
I ordered the Chashu Ramen. It's in the name, I want Ramen. This probably only comes with a fist-size of ramen. Very confusing.
Some Ramen places you get a tiny bit of pork, other places you get just enough. Here, you get 2-3 servings of pork. They are thick almost like the boneless cutlets you'd get at a grocery store. It would have been fine with just 2 pieces of pork, but it comes with 4. When it arrived at my table the pork was cold, like it had been refrigerated and was unceremoniously placed on top. So I quickly pushed them all into the broth in the hopes of heating them back up. After they had warmed up, and had marinated in the broth for a while they had a good flavor.
At most (if not all) Ramen places it's common to cook the ramen to order in unseasoned water, here is no different. However the broth was bland, they brag on their website that "the broth for Ramen is boiled [simmered] for 48 hours." Well that must have been a different broth because this broth lacked any semblance of substance, character, umami, saltiness, you name it: the broth didn't have it.
Staff:
Not great, not bad. Food was delivered and no one checked on me 5 minutes in, for a slow evening. Maybe 5-7 other tables with 4 waitresses, and whom I assumed was the manager. Someone should have been walking by consistently making eye contact, seeing if I needed something. The only time they did was when they started closing shop, and removed the soy sauce from my table, but that was to see if I was planning on using the soy sauce.
Things that would need to change before I come back:
Thinner slices of pork. It feels weird to say this, but LESS pork. You know the expression "Less is More."
Conversely more Ramen.
Figure out how to season a broth, more MSG, more salt, more stock, more flavor. It should be like I'm being slapped in the face with flavor, not like the idea of flavor is being whispered in my ear.

Best sushi/ramen/etc in the DMV. You can thank me later…… actually you probably will.

Some of the things on the menu were good. The tempura was okay, but the shrimp wasn't deveined, we didn't notice until we were almost done. I ordered the kimchi ramen and it has pork. I could smell the pork was off as soon as they brought the soup to the table. It smelled like a barn and tasted like ammonia. I sent it back and they tried to charge 50% because they had to "throw it out". The server/manager immediately got defensive and said "we just cooked it yesterday.." It may have been cooked yesterday but it definitely wasn't bought yesterday... Also, I don't understand why it couldn't be cooked to order.
After A LOT of back and forth they ended up comping the soup but I definitely won't be coming here again and really wouldn't recommend it.

First I’d like to say how much I enjoy going to sushi Jin. After Monday experience (06/19/23) I will probably never visit this location again. The hours are listed as closing at 9:30.
My cousin and I arrived at 8:40. Before being greeted we were told that we only had 5 minutes to order and how the staff wants to clock out by 9:30.
Side note: as someone who’s worked in the restaurant industry for years, it is unacceptable to tell guest they have have few minutes to order when the restaurant is listed as open until 9:30! If you so in fact take last seating at 8:45 then NOTE THAT ON THE WEBSITE! That’s bad business.
We could have left, but we drove to Virginia for this. We were rushed to order & everything came out sloppy/cold. They put our 3 rolls on one plate & one of them having rolls on top of another causing it to become soggy & fall apart(as shown in photo). We came to do a full meal but was only able to get sushi due to being rushed. The service wasn’t friendly & the servers could use some more training. They barely know their own menu. Anyways, I think we will stick to sushi Jin silver spring.
However, my first experience at Alexandria location was last month & it was fantastic, 9/10 experience. This recent one ruined it for me.

The sushi are ok, but who uses styrofoam in this day and age. Owners, look up styrofoam and cancer on google and switch to some decent paper packaging. It’s not that much more expensive considering the price of your food. You are killing your customers and killing the planet, since this garbage is not recyclable.

This place was mediocre. I had a feeling the food was not going to be good because they mix Korean and Japanese cuisine together which is a big red flag. In fact, the menu spelled "don-buri" incorrectly. I ordered the chasu ramen and the broth was like water. The chasu did not taste good either. My partner ordered the Maryland roll and the crab meat on the roll smelled extremely fishy and was a turn off. This place does not have parking but you can park in the Harris teeter underground parking next door. I would not go here again.

I just want to really give credit where its due. I love sushi, especially really good sushi. And whenever I am about to order it, I pick at least 3 good rated places and then thoroughly go through the menu and reviews. This place stuck out to my by the type of special rolls they had. I order two of them. One was basically a california roll with baked spicy scallop on top w fish roe. (LEFT) Then I got a lobster and crawfish roll with cucumber and avocado and I believe eel sauce. (RIGHT) When I tell you this was two of the BEST rolls I have ever had. The rolls were huge, full on the inside, saucy. Two of my co workers got sushi and loved theirs. #58: Shrimp Tempura rolls were HUGE. With crab and avocado & shrimp. I also let two people try my rolls and they had the same reaction I did, DELICIOUS!! The service was amazing, very sweet and had my order ready in 15 minutes. The place was 5 min from my job, it was CLEAN, and nice lighting and scenery, lots of employees. I will DEFINITELY be coming back. Its very hard to find sushi restaurants that have GOOD special rolls in the DMV. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I have never seen a place where they charge for food that you didn’t like! However, We ordered different sushi here and we didn’t like one of the sushi from our order, which we asked kindly to be removed from the bill but the manager came to tell us that it’s a policy and that we had to pay. Be aware! If you don’t like something you will still have to pay. No exceptions unless there was something wrong with the order. Date 05-07-2022 time 8:52.

Ive been to a bunch of Sushi places in the DMV, & none compare to this place. From the food, to the music, to the vibe, & even the servers are amazing. My server for this time Emily was great, she was knowledgeable on the menu, and recommended a few good things that I didn’t even know were available, like seaweed salad. Will 100% come back & recommend my friends.

I love that it feels like you're going into a small little Japanese restaurant. So five stars for atmosphere, it was just kind of cold. They have their air really low but it makes hot ramen that much more satisfying. The miso is really good, was just slightly disappointed that my veggie tofu one had basically just cabbage and mushrooms. I was hoping for more variety than that. The spicy salmon roll also just had spicy sauce on top, the salmon wasn't mixed with spicy sauce. Other than that my husband and I have been twice so far and we'll likely make SushiJin our go to spot!

We have a sushi jin about 10 minutes from our house. We drive the extra 15-25 minutes just to come to this location. We adore the manager!! The service is phenomenal. The food is always fast and fresh. I love coming personally because I love vegan food (spicy tofu roll and about 20 more rolls to choose from)and their house salad. My spouse raves about the spicy tuna. My daughter always ask if we are going to the one where they know us. Roasted edamame is great.. and the fried avocado roll is a sin. So glad they opened this spot. It’s a gem

Hubby and I stop here after going to a few estate sales. As a appetizer we shared the chicken karaage. Hubby had the Russian roulette roll and crab vs shrimp roll. I had the chashu pork ramen. the specialty rolls were delicious you can tell that's how they keep there customer base. The ramen was very light tasting yet sufficient but this isn't specifically why someone comes to this restaurant. The ambiance had trendy anime vibe which is great for young crew and nice for a family. But all in all come and stay for the sushi.

This place is a go to place if you are in Alexandria VA and craving sushi or ramen. They don't scam their food. This place is excellent from food to service. S/O to Camila who treats every customer with a great care! Everything on the menu is delicious. In terms of price, it does add up but you get your money's worth. Inside the restaurant is cozy and you get enough privacy when eating. You can easily go for a takeout option too. I highly recommend this place!
