We really wanted to love this place it was a quiet friday afternoon just before 5pm we were greeted and sat almost instantly we took some time to look over the rolls for there all you can eat and for a little over $20 we were super excited to try this place out we started with the gyoza and they were 10/10 fresh hot and super flavorful then we got some spring rolls that were kinda chewy and just pastry with nothing in it really we put in our first round of rolls (see pictures) they looked super yummy but after just one bite we quickly realized the rice was super chewy and definitely tasted like it was from the previous day just stale and gross we tried to push through like we always do but every roll we got was the same old chewy stale rice it takes so much away from the sushi when the rice is bad we do plan on giving this place another try but not anytime soon

I love this place. Extremely friendly staff, they work all the time to give you great sushi at a great price. Always a nice and peaceful dining experience. They have pay by the roll, or all you can eat. I love doing the all you can eat option.

What a hidden gem. Cheapest all you can eat sushi I’ve come across globally - with an extensive menu to choose from.
Visiting from Aus and was fortunate enough to stumble across this place and it fulfilled my sushi needs. I just went with nigiri and all the seafood was fresh and tasted great with good serving of wasabi and ginger. Nice family owners - worth the visit esp after a full day of skiing.

The air conditioning system wasn’t working very well we ordered 4 rolls the rice was hard and tasted bad we was told we would have to pay full price even if we didnt eat them there was standing water behind where we was sitting told the owner it was there he said he knew it was there I would suggest that you don’t eat there sushi wasn’t fresh !!!!

I definitely would not recommend Sushi Yah. The sushi rolls had way too much rice, and the rice tasted like it was day old rice. The fish did not taste fresh at all. The tempura shrimp felt mushy.

The restaurant was so uncomfortable to be in. It was so hot. They didn’t have any AC, they only had one fan for the whole restaurant. They poured water all over the floor to try to cool down the restaurant, so our feet were in puddles the whole time. We definitely won’t be going back.

We went a little after 5 tonight. We were the only table the entire time. There was a carry out order. The gentlemen was a regular as he knew the staff and stopped by our table to recommend the miso soup to us. (And we’re glad he did!)

We had several rolls and all of them were very good. Our least favorite was the Alaska roll, it was kinda bland to us. We love the Vegas roll! Other rolls we enjoyed were the Utah Mountain, Sunset, Hurricane and Crystal Crunch.

The restaurant is a little antiquated as far as decor goes and someone needs to take a swiffer duster around. The sushi bar and tables were clean. The bathrooms need a bit of cleaning, but they weren’t the worst I’ve been in.

The service was impeccable! The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We really enjoyed the server.

We will definitely be back to this little gem tucked in a strip mall off Ft Union.

Not actually sure how the food is… I wouldn’t know. Walked in at 6:20 PM, walked out at 6:45 having had no service, no drinks, and 1 contact from a guy who took our drink order and then didn’t come back. Only 3 occupied tables, all of whom were being served.

Glad some people had a better experience but I’m not going back.

This attracts a niche customer for sure. The folks beside me were talking about fish tacos, sushi bars, and preferences. It was quiet enough at the time. The staff was professional and purposeful, with a clean establishment.
I didn't check the facilities which seems something I've been less likely to do. Sorry folks.
Prices are moderate overall compared to some places I've been.

The Girl asked for all you can eat sushi for her graduation dinner and Sushi Yah made her dreams come true! The sushi rolls were so good! Some tempura some not but everything was excellent! And the price was awesome!!! My youngest LOVED the Gyoza and egg rolls. The rest of us tried just about EVERYTHING! Our favorites were the sunset, spicy crunch, Vegas, Eddy (the girl was really the only one who loved this but we all had fun trying it), Godzilla, Hurricane, and Utah Mountain. This made sitting through graduation worth it. Our waiter kept our glasses full and was great to explain or offer suggestions. This was really a great place!

Where do i start? Their food is excellent, 10/10! Their Crystal Crunch is definitely my favorite. But that does not mean all the others are not as good. All of their food is 100% recommended. I saw someone in the reviews say it was old looking inside and i don’t agree with that. I love how the restaurant looks from the inside. It shows culture, which i really like. It might not be the most modern but it is definitely not old looking as well. But my wife and I are not there for how the restaurant looks, we are there for their food and their good service. The owners are one of the sweetest people i’ve ever met. Definitely restaurant owner wise they are the best people i’ve ever come across. We always leave a “big” tip because of how much they deserve it. But i won’t make it any longer because it already is haha. Long story short; food 10/10, service 10/10. This place will most likely stay our go-to sushi place till this place doesn’t exist.

Did the all you can eat sushi (lunch) which is a good price. However, the sushi was not the best. Very little fish /veggies and a lot of rice. However, the spring rolls were good. The restaurant was somewhat ran down and old looking. The staff were very nice and helpful.

I hate to be that guy. The food here wasn't very good and I can see why people commonly say it's empty. I feel like I wasted my money and could have gotten similar quality from a grocery store. The miso was bland and tasteless. The gyoza tasted like it came out of a package. I heard a microwave ding (because they're was nothing for ambiance in there at all) right before I got my Unagi, which was on a hot air balloon of rice. The sushi was packed with enough rice in each roll I got for two rolls. I get that it's all you can eat but there's a point where all you can really taste is rice. It got to that point and beyond. Which was super bland, and just not good.

The place was just sad, I didn't order more than one round of their all you can eat sushi. This was my first time there and I was never told to check out at the front. There was mention of there being potential extra charges for leftover rice and I left a lot because they give you so much with each roll. So I figured they needed to come to the table. The woman who worked there seemed annoyed I didn't know to come to the front.

This place needs Gordon Ramsay, badly.

The food is great and the prices are amazing. We usually order takeout. The restaurant is dated (the building/strip mall), but the employees are always very nice. Our favorite rolls are the Hurricane, Crystal Crunch, Spicy Crunch and the Vegas Rolls. They have a great deal, if you order 2 rolls you get a third free. This is good alternative to fast food!

Worst sushi I've had in a long time. I came to eat nigiri and what I got were these mountains of rice with a piece of fish. If I wanted a roll I would have gotten a roll. Must be doing it to just get people full.

I don't pride myself on and certainly don't think of myself as a sushi snob, but I've had better sushi in third world countries and even Chinese buffets where you think they would give you more rice.

I'm sorry but pitiful job. I really wanted y'all to be good. Las Vegas and SoCal AYCE places must have gotten me spoiled.

1 star. Guess I needed to lower my expectations. Left the place admittedly without tipping and not because I was being cheap I just wanted to accurately pay for the amount of rice I was given. First and last time here.

They've got a vegetable sushi section with 6 or 7 options. If you're not fond of the taste of seaweed they'll wrap your sushi in soy paper which is practically flavorless. I got some of each; the seaweed wraps didn't have a strong flavor so they were great! Overall, it was very tasty and I'll order from there again.

This place is BAD. The rice on every occasion has been hard. No consistency with vinegar and rice cook times. The fish is frozen, thawed and garbage. Constructive criticism is not accepted. Sometimes you just need to trust someone’s opinion and stay away. Good luck if you go.

Best sushi place around as far a quality vs. price paid. Yes, you can get thicker cuts of fish and/or fancier stuff elsewhere, but you'll pay a *lot* more. The building and booths are old, worn out and tired-looking, but that doesn't bother me at all - if anything, it gives it a "local hole in the wall" feel that I often find charming.

They have all the normal offerings you would expect, plus an excellent variety of vegetarian rolls (much more than most other places) and we all enjoy the appetizer section (miso soup, eggrolls, gyoza, edamame, etc.). The only thing they DON'T have that I really wish they did is squid/ika.

Service used to be very slow, but the last several times I've been, it is much improved. Also, to the reviewer who talked about getting food poisoning here - sorry, that's really bad luck. I've been here many, many times and have not once had any such problems. Food poisoning is always a risk when eating raw fish/meat no matter where you get it. I don't think this place has any higher risk than any other sushi place in the area.

I'd happily recommend this place if you want good sushi, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg. If your goal is to impress your date/boss/in-laws, you may need to spend more and go somewhere where the atmosphere is more upscale.

My food was good, although there’s not many non-sushi items. I had the potstickers and they were incredible.
Online it says they have a chicken tender option, but they no longer have that.
Other members of my party said their sushi was good but ordering is hard as they don’t give you clear directions on how to use their menu and they have thick accents.
You also get charged for excess rice and sushi if there’s more than half left (understandable but weird).

Came in on a Sunday night for AYCE sushi. The entire restaurant was literally being run by 2 people. 1 guy making sushi for 6 tables, all of which are doing AYCE. Took almost 40 minutes just to get our first order and half of it wasn’t even there. This place is seriously understaffed and lacks any sort of attention to detail. The sushi we did get was alright, nothing special. I would go elsewhere.

Wife and I went here to prove to a friend that “all you can eat sushi” can actually be ok! We were very wrong.

I’m also no food critic and am satisfied 99% of the time.. but not here unfortunately 😂

All tempura rolls seemed to be pre-fried.. my assumption comes from the tempura being chewy/ soft. They were not fresh and all tasted the same. The rice on all rolls was also crunchy and undercooked. I love seaweed wrap- but something about this seaweed.. it had a stronger fishy smell and an overbearing fish taste. I’ve never experienced this with seaweed.

The drinks (Diet Pepsi) were served with 5 or 6 pieces of ice leaving the drinks warm. We asked for water and it was the same.

Lastly - I’d say for the price it’s whatever… but after tip still ran $60+ … with that being said hit ITTO Sushi down the road, or even Ichiban on State.

- rice tastes wierd and overcooked
- every roll I ordered was disgusting
- fish tasted off
- got a stomach ach after eating here

Side note I used to come to this place over 10 years ago and it used to be pretty good!

Bottom line they are cutting a lot of corners to save money because there margins are so thin.

Just increase your prices a little bit to put the quality back in. I willingly pay $20-30 for a good quality buffet.

These prices are way to cheap in order to maintain good quality.

I am unsure how this place has passed the health inspection. Was attracted to the unlimited sushi. The sushi tasted mediocre at best. It’s a large menu but it’s literally all the same. Not much variety if you actually look at the menu. We had 2 rounds and both times I ordered the salmon roll and both times I didn’t get it. The second time around we ordered 8 more rolls and he only gave us 5. He told us he wouldn’t make us 8 bc we wouldn’t finish it. My party of 6 left still hungry, sick, and irritated from the service. The restrooms are DISTGUSTING. If they have no pride in the cleanliness of their restrooms I can’t imagine their kitchen. I am unsure how they are still open. Also seemed like the ac was broken but it wasn’t. It was very warm in there and we had to call for attention for drink refills. First and last time.

Wow. Never thought I’d find a sushi place worse than the Happy Sumo in Cottonwood Heights. I stand corrected. Slow service, terrible food, false advertising with all you can eat when in reality it’s fixed inflated prices, and getting what you ordered? Not an option, just eat what what is brought. On the plus side, I brought a $20 bill to cover the alleged all you can eat price just in case. Trust me when I say I got yelled at all the way out the door.
As Charles Barkley would say, terrible terrible terrible. Will never come back.

This was mine and my friend's first time going to sushi Yah and we were extremely disappointed. We ordered five rolls from the start and none of it was fresh. I took one bite of their salmon roll and nearly spit it out because of how old it tasted. The tempura rolls we received also did not seem fresh, but instead seemed to be microwaved. We left nearly half of each roll untouched and the workers all seemed appalled we didn't want to take a box. With my friend throwing up afterward, there is no way we would ever take leftovers home nor go back a second time. If you can avoid it, DON'T EAT HERE!

Visited 3 years ago

Sushi Experience №131

So much rice it ruins the experience, they double up the rice so people will get full and stop ordering.

It’s disrespectful, and it also makes the food bad. It’s not even well formed like nigiri should be, it crumbles and falls everywhere. The rolls don’t stay rolled, nigiri can’t be flipped and dipped.

All you can eat but hidden cost of tea. $22? No $27 Ginger was low quality soaked in preservatives, green tea was brown, specialty rolls were a joke, and they didn’t have half the nigiri fishes I tried to order.

The quality of the sushi was so low, it was barely worth eating. It’s the closest sushi place to my house, and theres a reason I haven’t been there for 5 years, I should have known better than to try them again.

They should just run a normal sushi shop instead of this all you can eat BS

Skip the diabetes, buy a bag of instant rice and some soy sauce and gorge on that, because that’s all you’re really getting at this place.

If you like to eat garbage, then this is the place for you. This was the worst sushi I have ever had. Everything tasted the same and if it didn’t it was because it tasted worse than garbage. To top off the disgusting food you’ll be treated with a huge price tag for trying to hold it down. Once you run to the bathroom to get sick, you won’t make it because the bathroom is rusted and unclean.
The only good thing was the staff was nice.

I know there isn’t a high standard for sushi here in Utah but this place is just straight garbage. Low low quality sushi. The hostess/sever lady will never get you refills and try and scam you out of your money at the end. The photo below is the type of sushi you will receive.

Husband and I ate here tonight on a whim and LOVED IT. The gyoza was delicious, the sushi rolls we ordered were all delicious and the staff/owners are so friendly!

Love that post-ish pandemic they are still able to offer all you can eat... Other places are no longer able to do so.

My new favorite roll is the New Orleans!

I have eaten here many times as it’s 1/2 mile from my house, it’s a good deal and I always leave a generous tip (100% tip) because of that. I just get tired of them being rude, like turning me away tonight just because I was alone and they had an hour left before posted closing time. Easy enough to go somewhere else in the future. Thanks sushi yah

I cannot sing my praises for Sushi Yah loud enough!
We hosted a birthday party there recently, and we had some problems getting an accurate headcount, and the entire staff HANDLED IT! The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was incredible, and the owners were exceptionally kind and attentive.
I loved Sushi Yah before, and now, I am just having so many heart eyes.
Thank you thank you thank you

There are tons of options at this place!

The rolls that my wife and I got were tasty, nothing insanely delicious but they all tasted good. Just get water, my soda was flat and they don’t give you too much ice so it was a little warm too.
Gyoza/Pot Stickers are good. Spring rolls too. Do not get the mussels….they’re no good, no flavor and seem off.

Overall good experience, although they were pretty slow to serve us, it was understandable as there were only two people seating customers, taking orders, preparing the sushi, and bringing it out.

Good environment good service wich is why I'm giving two stars. Food sigh it was mediocre the sushi was not fresh at all very bland the rice was hard like it had been taken out of a rice cooker from the day before and the crab was fake crab like the one you can buy at your supermarket the miso soup was good other than that glad I tried this place but never coming back...

My family and I have been coming to Sushi Yah for years. The owners are very nice and welcoming. We always do the "all you can eat sushi" lunch or dinner. Food is always quickly served. The presentation of the sushi is always very neat and beautiful. The sushi itself tastes fresh. There's a nice balance of rice and sushi. Give it a try!

Great if you want to eat a large amount of sushi for a fixed price and don't mind mediocre quality. Otherwise, go elsewhere and prioritize quality over quantity.

The quality is mediocre -- not awful, not great. Most things are smothered in eel sauce which is yummy in some situations but everything tasted more or less the same, things like avocado were missing from the rolls with no explanation, further making all the rolls taste the same.

Some of the raw fish in the nigiri sushi was a little fishy smelling.

Rice was mediocre quality, too hard, and not vinegared.
"SUSHI" literally means vinegared rice. Why are they cutting corners on such an important part?

Service was so-so, but improved when a different staff member started serving us.

We don't regret going, but we won't ever be back.

Price is reasonable, until you account for the tax and tip. How is it that we ended up paying nearly $60 dollars for two soft drinks, and a mediocre sushi lunch?

I think it isn't a bad restaurant, but a little effort could bring a huge improvement.

If you want affordable sushi that actually tastes good and isn't sketchy, come here! Our favorite is the crystal crunch roll! The owner is so friendly. He remembered us after only getting takeout from them twice! We get takeout and dine in here often and have never had a bad experience. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed the All-You-Can-Eat Lunch here. Got to try 8 rolls, grilled mussels & some octopus nigiri for less than $20. It all tasted delicious but some of the rolls were kinda boring. Still a great place to grub TF out for a decent price!

I went because of the good reviews and was highly disappointed. The quality of the food is poor, most of the rolls we ordered were boring/ not flavorful, and they were strictly doing sushi even though their website listed other food. We tried to order my kids a bento box and the woman snapped no we don't have that they can eat appetizers. The vegetable tempura was yam and potatoes which were bland and overcooked, the spring rolls didn't come with sauce, but on the plus side I did enjoy the gyoza and edamame.

Wow super amazing rolls , they are filling and taste like very high quality . I had the all you can eat dinner for 21 bucks so far I've had 5 giant dinner rolls 2 lunch rolls and 5 appetizers. I ate every last bit of it . I'd eat more it is that amazing but I don't want to eat them out of business hahaha. Do yourself a favor and come eat at this amazing and wonderful restaurant. The staff are great and Japanese I have a lot of respect for their amazing craft . Treat them like gold and they mist certainly return the favor . This place us a 10 star out of 5 man this is amazing.

Ordered the first plate, 2 rolls, nothing I can't handle. When I made my second order, they only brought out half and said they didn't think I could finish. They were pretty rude and we ended up walking out, no longer wanting to eat their food. On top of that, one of the rolls was HEAVY with mayonnaise and basically inedible. It would have been a more pleasant experience if our server had not been so catty.

Dined here a couple of weeks ago based on reviews, but it was really disappointing to be honest. Little inspiration in the rolls, taste was just OK for me. Service was extremely slow, and I can't blame it on short staffing due to the pandemic as there were very few other diners, yet three or four other staff members in the restaurant were milling around doing seemlessly little, and not taking care of customers. Couldn't get re-orders made in a timely manner, because our server would never pay attention to us. Couldn't even get drink refills.
Sorry but this is not a 4+ star restaurant in my opinion.

Despite the great reviews that lured me here for all-you-can-eat, this was sadly the worst sushi I've ever had. Worse than gas station sushi. The fish was not fresh, the appetizers were bland, and even the rice was dry and cold. Maybe the sushi game just isn't that great in SLC. I'm hoping to find a better place for AYCE. I feel like 2 stars is too kind, but maybe we came on an off day or something. Just... SURPRISINGLY bad.

They should probably not advertise all you can eat if they don't want to serve it at all. When I went with a group of friends, there was one chef and one server for the whole restaurant. Our server was an older Asian lady with bad listening skills, bad memory and really bad attitude. So we got our world's worst sushi in the wrong order and wrong rolls sent to different people in the wrong amounts, and it was all pretty rough to eat, so we called it a day before any of us was full. Then, as my last friend was walking out after paying, she says "you don't tip!?", and we had to hold him back from doing some stuff he would regret! Because he was the same one she said "you finish your food" to like he was a child, and she had also said to him "you share paper" when he asked for a menu. So me and several other people won't be going back at any point.

We came on a Friday around 5 and had the entire place to ourselves for about 30 minutes. The staff were very friendly and made great sushi. The pieces were a little big but the taste was great. For $20 AYCE you can't beat it! It's not gourmet by any means but it is pretty good.
