Japanese eatery & sushi bar featuring signature rolls & a big sake list in hip, contemporary digs.
Honestly, some of the best sushi I've ever had. They had so many different rolls to choose from and me and my friend loved all the ones we ordered. Our favorite was The Little Mermaid which had tuna and scallop in it along with a wasabi tobiko. Texture was spectacular. The gyoza as an appetizer was 10/10 too. The other rolls we got were the Yellow Submarine, a Philly roll, and the Tiger's Roll.
Important note: we came at 5:50 and the line was already an hour and a half so PLEASE do come right when they open at 5:30 or if you're able to make a reservation (they only do it for parties of 5 or higher), then definitely do so.

The sushi here fell far below expectations and I believe you would find better sushi in a 7-11 in Japan than here. If you’ve ever had authentic sushi, you might find the quality here disappointing. After hearing multiple recommendations that this is the best sushi in Utah, I was surprised and let down. While I understand that sushi here is often Americanized, the flavors (mixing Thai or Mexican) and execution didn’t come together in a good way.
The service was also a mixed experience. The hostess, a short blonde-haired woman named Carrey, came across as dismissive and rude, which was frustrating. Based on other reviews, it seems this has been an issue for other customers as well. Despite arriving early, being first in line, and waiting patiently, we were not seated for over an hour and a half, while other groups who arrived later were seated ahead of us. This felt unfair and left a poor impression.
Another aspect that stood out was that all the sushi chefs were non-Japanese, which felt unusual for a restaurant presenting itself as a Japanese sushi establishment. While this may cater to a specific audience, it did leave the experience feeling less authentic than anticipated.
If you still want to try, the Hamachi Gunkan and the Summit were decent options. However, the portion sizes were small, and the overall service was slow. The bright spot of the evening was our server, who was lovely, helpful, and attentive throughout.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it to those looking for an authentic sushi experience or consistent service.

My husband found Takashi and let me say… what a gem! We went 2x during my 10 day vacation in SLC. Such great quality, freshness and amazing chefs. Rivalring with top restaurants we have been in many places. They have a strong regular selection as well as specials — we ate things from both and nothing disappointed. We were taken care by Zack, Mike and Bryce (remember, 2 visits!) who took time to understand what we liked and offered curated suggestions.

This place is really good. I went last night I had three appetizers, the gyoza, the fried chicken and the pork belly. I also had the glass noodles salad which was great too (a bit too lemony however). For the main course, I had the "Ridiculously Tender Steak Flank" which was really good. For dessert I had the 'Chocolate Rum Torte' with the strawberry gelato, it was so good. Will go again.
I showed at 4:30 when they opened at 5 and was the first person in line. You should show up around 30 minutes before opening if you want a spot.

Put your name on waitlist early. Best to sit at the sushi bar, you can order pieces directly from the sushi chef in front of you. Start with a couple pieces of nigiri—don’t do the salmon, try something else. Talk with your sushi chef—ask for their recommendations. Keep the nigiri coming—you can try a maki if you want, the nori did taste good. But the fish is the star of the show here. Keep trying the different types, really focus on the unique flavors and textures of each one. If you want, lightly dip into soy sauce, fish-side. Then place the whole piece, fish-side down, directly on the tongue and begin chewing and tasting. You can have around 8 pieces of nigiri this way, leaving you quite content. My sushi chef here was excellent, and once I had told him which pieces were my favorite he began recommending different things to try which would suit my tastes. All told, one of my most memorable and delectable dining experiences yet.

This is some of the best sushi in Utah. If you are looking for more raw fish than rolls, this is the place. With no reservations, it’s important to know that waiting outside before is open is key to getting all the great food. I really enjoyed my visit here and look forward to a second trip!
Edit: Tried lots more the second time. Very good sushi and small plates. The chicken teriyaki is also really good.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time on Valentine's Day, arriving at 5:20 pm to find a long line already formed. Despite the wait, we were seated shortly before 7 pm, and the service and food made it all worthwhile. The fusion of flavors on both the sushi and kitchen menus was exceptional, with the Sunshine Roll standing out as our favorite. Though we enjoyed surf and turf dish, we did experience a 40-minute wait for it. However, the manager handled the situation graciously, offering to comp the dish from our bill, which left us pleased with the resolution. We look forward to returning to try more of the menu and wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese cuisine.

We went on the 23 for a friend birthday dinner. We got a mix of sushi and edemame and a few people got other things. The rolls were not good. They were falling apart and poorly made. The rice was barely hanging on and Iv had far better sushi most of us got a couple rolls the bill was like 700$ and we split it four ways. Oh and because we had 8 people we made a reservation. They told us to come in the side door and then let the hostess know when we arrived. When we spoke to the blond hostess she was so RUDE she snapped at us and told us to get in line. We told her again we have a reservation and were told to go in the side waiting room to be seated. She was such a brat we almost left. She aggressively sat us and rolled her eyes. Such a disappointment, last year we had a great time and the quality was worth it. After spending that much for something not much better than grocery store sushi we will not be going back. So DISSATISFIED and DISAPPOINTED

The food and service absolutely did not meet the general high reviews of this restaurant.
Me and my family lined up before restaurant had opened. We do acknowledge that we aren’t the earliest ones in line and we have a party of 5.
However, after knowing that we might need to wait for around an hour, we decided to come back later. And when we did, the host had given pervious available seats to a party that came after us. Thus, we did putted down a name and phone number.
On top of that, the attitude of the host was very discomforting, though she remained her niceties for a “good service”, her words was sarcastic and rude.
After all of this disturbing services we decided to focus on the food and see if all the waiting was worth it. And it turns out it was a great disappointment. The sushi was average and middling, not authentic at all. Additionally it was not worth the price as well. Another small detail was, all the chef was non-Asian, that might explain why the food was not authentic.
Despite all of these disappointing experiences, the atmosphere of the restaurant was decent and a girl waiter who served us was really nice and understanding.

Best sushi restaurant of any I've visited across the United States. Always busy so get there early. I've gone many times and every item has been excellent. The service is also very good. They handle groups well although during peak times it may be hard to hear the opposite end of the table. I wouldn't go with more than eighth in a party.

This is my favorite sushi place I’ve ever been to! It absolutely both modern and adorably cozy at the same time. Get the torched sablefish nigiri (2 pieces per order, but rich so go slow), the mussels shooters (I prefer no raw quail egg, pick your poison), and the Ceviche Roll is spicy and delicious!

A Disappointing Dining Experience, Tarnished by Poor Management
Takashi was once a go-to spot for the downtown night life. However, our recent experience was marred by a deeply disappointing experience that can be solely attributed to the general manager, Susan.
Our interaction with Susan left a lasting negative impression. She repeatedly failed to follow through on promises to return phone calls, leaving us feeling frustrated and disrespected. I had to call back on several occasions during multiple times of day to connect with Susan.
Susan refused to honor a gift certificate that was purchased two years ago, despite Utah law 261 explicitly prohibiting such restrictions, is both unethical and illegal. This blatant disregard for both customer satisfaction and legal obligations is inexcusable.
It is disheartening to see such poor management at a once-respected establishment. We hope that Takashi will take swift action to address these issues and rectify the situation. Until then, we will be hesitant to return and I will be certain to let everyone I know that there are better experiences in hospitality in downtown that welcome and appreciate business.

Takashi is hands-down my favorite restaurant, and I’ve been coming here several times a year for as long as I can remember. Even when I lived out of state, I made it a priority to visit Takashi every time I came back to Utah. It’s been my go-to spot for birthdays, special occasions, and honestly, anytime I’m craving an unforgettable dining experience.
Pepe is an incredible chef, and you can truly taste the love and care he puts into every dish. The flavors are always vibrant, perfectly balanced, and consistently delicious no matter how many times I visit. Taylor also provided exceptional, attentive service during my recent visit, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Some of the standout dishes I had were the fried trout, mussels, ceviche roll, spicy and sour seafood soup and pork rib soba. And I can’t forget to mention how grateful I am that they always provide my extra lime sauce and TNT sauce. Those sauces take my meals to the next level and make every bite even better.
Despite visiting so many times over the years, the food at Takashi never gets old—it’s always fresh, creative, and satisfying. Takashi is more than a restaurant to me; it’s a place where I can count on an amazing meal and a memorable experience every single time. Highly recommend!

Always exceeds expectations, though the wait can be exuberant. Well worth the wait however. The old fashioned drink is always better next door, despite the same ownership. Food is phenomenal and arguably best sushi in the state. The Calamari they serve truly sets the standard for the dish.

Takashi has been a #1 spot for sushi in SLC for us and that's not changing any time soon. We took family from out of town this weekend and enjoyed hearing their similar praises. If you're looking for fresh, bold, quality sushi, Takashi should absolutely be on your list. I know it's silly but if you like miso soup, Takashi's miso is a must order as a warm up. Follow it with the gunkan maki and you're off to an exceptional start.
Definitely plan ahead. Takashi opens at 5:30pm most nights and has a line waiting to fill the restaurant. If you are lucky to be sat without a wait, I'm jealous. Otherwise, plan to put your name in and skip next door for drinks at Post Office Place, or around the corner at the many bars on Main Street to pass the time. It is worth the wait.

I got to revisit this gem and was not disappointed. I ordered their specials and I think it was better then the last time. It's true craftsmanship and love that these plates are made with. The fish taste like it was caught before your eyes. Seriously incredible.
By far the best Sushi I have ever had. This place is amazing. If you are a sushi entrepreneur like me you would not dare touch your soy sauce. The flavor combinations are unparallel.

I went to Takashi with high expectations but left feeling disappointed. While the fish quality was solid—an 8/10—the rest of the meal, including the Jupiter roll, sablefish, and spicy hamachi roll, felt bland and devoid of any character. The service was strikingly indifferent, leaving me wondering if I could have gotten better hospitality at a fast-food chain. For the $103 I spent, the experience did not live up to the reputation. A more reasonable price point would have been $60-$75. Overall, I found the meal to be underwhelming and unworthy of the premium pricing. thank you.

THE BEST sushi restaurant ever!!!! Their sushi is just out of this world. Very expensive but also very good quality. It’s worth it, trust me. Service is okay, they are always very busy, usually they have a line of people on the front trying to get a table, so I get it, sometimes it’s very hard to give all customers a great service when the place is full of hungry people trying to order and wanting their food as fast as possible. Some of their dishes take a long time to make so be aware of this. But overall, is a very good place to eat a high quality sushi!

The restaurant does NOT worth the price. The food is good, I can give them that, but it's the only good thing about the whole place. Everything was old and filthy, and I saw broken things everywhere. The dishes where all sticky and greasy, and going to the toilet was a terrifying experience. My girlfriend even refused to use the lady's one. Glasses where unclean too. Eating there was unpleasant and disgusting. Prices are really expensive so you expect the place to be at least clean and hygienic.
I was also talking to the restaurant staff and it seems that the owner misuses tips and does not even distribute them properly among the chefs. I refused to tip a waiter who only served me a glass of water!
Totally not worth it. Never coming back. Not recommended at all.

We took a roundtrip road trip from San Francisco to Denver with stops in Reno and Salt Lake City.
We dined at this restaurant on our SLC stop because it had a lot of great reviews but it was a very disappointing dining experience to say the least. The worst meal, by far, on our road trip.
It all started very promising because there was a somewhat longish line that formed before the restaurant opened but, it all went downhill as soon as we were greeted by one of the hostesses, the tall blonde one.
There were about 10 to a dozen parties waiting outside the restaurant before it opened and the wife and I were the fourth party in that line. We were the first party with 2 persons. The hostess couldn't even manage a smile when she greeted us. She then sat us at the worst possible table for 2 in the restaurant. We watched the same hostess take the other parties with 2 people and sat them by the windows. By the way, I just want to mention before I continue that we were the only Asian couple in the restaurant. There was an Asian guy next to our table but he was with a Caucasian guy. The wife and I just looked at each other wondering what the hell that was all about.
Anyways, it didn't get any better when the food got to our table. All the Nigiris looked great and tasted good but, as soon as we dipped them in the soy sauce, the sushi rice started falling apart. Of all the Nigiri that I've ever eaten so far, this has never happened. We also noticed that they have multiple sushi chef but not one was Japanese or Asian. Hmmm?
The worst $175 I've ever spent on a meal.

Not worth the hype. The hostesses were both rude and completely dismissive of our request to not be sat at a 4 person table as a group of 5 - mind you we had lined up before the 5:30 opening and were the 4th group in line so the entire restaurant was open at the time. One of them said she would grab the manager for us and just never did. No food is worth being treated poorly by the staff. Overall very cramped and unfriendly experience.

The way they seat the restaurant right when it opens leads to poor service. They seat the whole restaurant ant once. Our server seemed almost bugged with us the whole time and we are a very low maintenance table. When we asked what she recommended as far as sushi, her response was annoyingly “we are really busy, everything is good.” Yikes! Message delivered. The food was amazing though. The tables are a little too close together though and the shirt of the server to the table next to us kept touching our food.

Update as of 08/2024 - the service still frickin sucks and the food is now meh. 40minutes to see the first order of nigiri is INSANE.
Seating a table at 9 and asking for last call for a 10pm closing before they even get their first dish is INSANE.
Nigiri that falls apart because of old rice that’s been sitting there all day is gross and not worth the customers time.
The rice here is chewy with a weird hard crust (not in a good way). It’s far too starchy as if it’s been sitting in the rice cooker for many many hours (because it has). It leaves a lingering starch coating in your mouth.
The fish is still solid but that can’t possibly make up for years of horrifying service and the terrible rice - which used to be takashis distinction.
Add to this that the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, and the decore is dated and dusty.
Also PS - to the hostess - put your ugly knitting project down and at least try to take an interested attitude for your job.
What a way to create a horrible experience…sushi used to be great but is no longer worth a wait and bad service.
Old review (no longer relevant) - The sushi is great but the hosts are pretentious and the service can be meh.

I've been going to Takashi since it opened about 20 yrs ago... and back then it was kind of a big deal because there really was no sushi game in SLC. So... it's kind of easy to be "the best sushi in Salt Lake City" when you're pretty much the only game in town.
And, you know, sushi isn't rocket science. All it takes, really, to make good sushi is fresh fish and a knife. Go to virtually any of the 5000 or so basic, everyday, neighborhood sushi restaurants in Tokyo for example and you'll get at least as good--often much better--sushi than you'll find at Takashi... at very affordable prices.
I'm not an insider at Takashi so I can't say for sure, but my impression is that Takashi has been suffering from its own success for a while now. When they first opened up they had to try harder... because they were new and struggling and had spent all this money and taken this big risk... and had no reputation to lean on. But as they got more successful and got richer, they just stopped working as they used to... and are, as the saying goes, resting on their laurels.
The sushi here was never "amazing!"... it was just good "for Salt Lake City". But now, it's not even really that. I mean, it's not bad... it's workmanlike... but it's certainly no better than the sushi at Tsunami on 9th or Toyko Tower or Sapa or Itto. And the service certainly isn't any better. I ate here last night and my server was kind of a odd-ball hippie type that seemed like he was on peyote or something.
And how hard is it to have a current, accurate menu that people can actually hold in their hands and read and order from??? When we asked for menus he looked at us like we were aliens... and then when he did bring them over he said "Sorry but these are a few years old so all of the prices are crossed out and some of the items are no longer available and there are some new things that aren't listed". So... basically you just handed me a useless piece of paper. It costs about .25 to print something. And it's hard to imagine that they don't have some kind office space somewhere on the premises... where they do things like order food and pay bills and do payroll, scheduling, etc. And I bet they have a computer and a printer in that space. But I guess it's just too much trouble to update a Google Docs menu now and then and print a few out to have handy for the customers.
But, I get it. For a small business owner... just starting out... doing a lot of things themselves... excellence isn't that hard to achieve. But it's definitely hard to maintain as you grow... and get older... and get richer... and have to hire more people... and have to rely on them more and more. Because let's face it. American kids in their teens and 20's are not the same as Japanese people in their 50's and 60's. And excellent is just no longer a word that I can use to describe Takashi anymore. The prices are high, the food is just OK, the ambience is fine but aging... and the service is average at best. And, well, downtown's just not that cool anymore... thanks largely to horde of homeless that have been allowed to take it over in the past decade. It doesn't have the same vibe it did 20 yrs ago when Takashi opened and Gastronomy Inc was still in full effect, with as many as 10 different, excellent restaurants downtown.
But, thanks to it's past reputation, Takashi will continue on... making OK sushi... and making money hand over fist. And that's great for them. That's the American way. But don't expect anything special or amazing when you go there. It's just average now.

This was my 2nd time at Takashi, first was before my Celiac diagnosis. The menu names are clever, and although I didn't look at the GF menu - the server said GF soy sauce/tamari could be used on really any roll, excluding tempura, of course. Very accomodating!
We started our wait at the Post Office and I got the Sex With An Ex drink - tasted light and refreshing and flavorful - definitely more than the name of the drink suggests. ;)
We waited exactly the time we were told for a table, and when we were sat - ordered the calamari as a starter (made with cornmeal so if you're not worried about cross-contamination with the fryer, you can have it. Sooo good), spicy mussels with quail eggs (insanely good - we don't think we'll ever be able to have a non-spicy one EVER again. Might start bringing our own thai chili oil with us if we go anywhere else), the Salmon-Scallop Gunken Maki (a huge bite without a ton of flavor but hearty), The Mr. Blue Sky Roll (only reason the review was 4 stars - this roll didn't do it for any of the 4 people eating, it was bland and tasted a lot like the sesame seeds unfortunately) and finally - the Surf & Snow roll (INCREDIBLE. The roll sounds so different with the pear, but this was the favorite).
Our server suggested a yuzu spritz cocktail, which I can't even find now on the menu, and it was delish!
All the way great experience, great atmosphere, great food, great drinks!

Honestly, I didn’t understand why so many ppl recommend the place. The sushi rolls were ok, nothing superb about it. The $35 steak was below average. Overly seared, which resulted in burned marinade making the outside of steak taste bitter, kind of like eating coal. And it was very loud. I felt like we were in the bar - not a place I would choose to enjoy the dinner and chat with friends.

I’ve had sushi all over the U.S. and I must say, this is a top restaurant! The fish was extremely fresh, the service was top notch and all around this was a fabulous dinner and experience. Get the mussel shooters!!

I recently dined at Takashi, and it was an extraordinary experience! The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and efficient. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel welcome and well taken care of.
The highlight of the evening was, without a doubt, the sushi. It was the freshest fish I have ever had in a sushi roll! Each bite was a burst of flavor and melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The chefs at Takashi clearly take immense pride in their craft, and it shows in every dish.
Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking to enjoy a high-quality meal, Takashi is the place to go. The combination of outstanding service and the freshest ingredients makes for an unforgettable dining experience. I can't wait to return!

Brilliant! I can highly recommend the Cod appetizer, the Miso Soup and the Spider Roll. The A5 nigiri wasn't worth the price imo.

The food here is good. I have heard the name Takashi for a long time but didn’t have a chance to visit till last night and it was great as expected. The service was good. The restaurant is nice but it’s quite crowded. If you prefer quiet place, this won’t be a place for you. The sake we got was great. Although, as a norm for alcohol in restaurants, the price is like 4x of what you can get outside. The sushi was great. We enjoyed our sushi and the roll we got. The appetizers and dessert were all good. What is a bit unexpected is the soba which came more like udon.

No no no.
My husband and I were visiting from NY and heard of this place to be “very good.” Uhmmm let me just save y’all. It was TERRIBLE. I’ve had ShopRite sushi better than this. The chefs seem to just be following a recipe. It was stale and disgusting and flavorless. The Philly roll was inedible. The dragon roll tasted like air. How are we supposed to be paying $14-18 per roll and the execution was extremely underwhelming?
On the plus side, the bartenders are AMAZING. The signature old fashion is amazing. Overall, if you want sushi; go to the grocery store

Takashi is a must go sushi spot in SLC. Drinks are amazing, food is amazing, everything you get is going to taste fantastic. Nothing but positive things to say about this restaurant.
We come here for work when a vendor comes in from Texas, and we always get omakase — have tried some of the BEST sushi and nigiri when we do this. One of them has waygu beef and I neeeeed to know what it is called (so if you’re seeing this please let me know) because I dream about that melting in my mouth in the best way possible.

I can understand if you have lived in Utah long enough why you would enjoy a place like this but coming from a east coast city like Philadelphia the quality of the food and atmosphere is something you would see at a regular neighborhood sushi bar. But for some reason this restaurant is seen as the nicest sushi SLC has to offer which is just sad… to me, I possibly see their success coming from their terrible no reservation system. Any good fine dining and Japanese restaurant would have a reservation system making it more organized for the staff and less stressful on the customer. But in making in no reservation system, it makes it hard for the average person to get a table here which I think creates this fake persona for the restaurant being something incredible and exclusive which it definitely isn’t. A restaurant like Yuki Yama in PC is better quality than Takashi, less money, And you never have to worry about getting reservation. I feel Takashi uses this reservation system as a business model to stay relevant because other than some special things like uni (mid quality) on there menu , they don’t stand out in that poorly lighted back street next to the melt pot.

A coworker and I had a meeting at the Sheraton and were gifted an hour and twenty for lunch. We wandered, looking for a place to grab some lunch. As I’ve heard this is a terrific Sushi place from many friends, I expected a wait, but we were greeted immediately and seated quickly. The Sushi was delicious, the service was fantastic, the atmosphere lovely, and we even had time for a coffee before our last meetings of the day.

I went looking for the best real fish in this city and I found it! I have a very refined picky palette and this place is exactly what I was looking for. No fake fish here! Best fish in town!
The only other best in the state would be in park city at Yuki Yama sushi. If you want to have the freshest best fish on the market!

Great vegetarian options!

Always come here either for my boyfriends birthday or other events. Cute restaurant with the best sushi in Utah. Staff is great. Make sure to get your name on the list early on Saturdays to beat the dinner rush. If you have time to kill, I recommend hopping over to The Post Office Bar for a Sapporo. I think prices are fair for the quality, too. :)

1H20 between ordering and first bite, is apparently a typical wait time. That’s what the server told us tonight.
We were 5th in line waiting from 5:10 to 5:30pm to get served quickly. We got in and quickly ordered drinks and food. Our food arrived at 6:45 AFTER I mentioned that I feared they forgot about us. The server pretty much told us it was our fault for ordering late and told us he would check the status of the ticket. Seems like panic in his eyes from a distance when he went to call for other waiters for help.
The table that sat down an hour after us got food before us.
Waiting for the manager to reply to this review and comment. Is that typical wait time? Is that typical service from the waiter? I’ve seen comments where people got free food and sincere apologies for waiting 40min on Valentine’s Day.
I’m not only paying $90.00 for good appetizers but also good service.
Besides that, the chefs did great and food was great, check was delivered promptly after asking.

Hands down the best sushi restaurant in Salt Lake City! The rolls are delicious and unique - my favorite is the black magic woman roll. I love the calamari here as well. There's usually a long wait (for good reason), so we always get there early, put our name in, and go next door to the Post Office Place bar for cocktails and appetizers.

If you're wondering if there is a sushi restaurant that's worth a four hour drive to get to this would be the place. The rolls are always delicious and fresh, you can tell the difference in the premium ingredients they use. The staff is super attentive and had great recommendations. Sunshine rolls was our favorite.

The Service and Atmosphere at the Bar is outstanding.
The Rolls are creative and very unique + flavorful.

Asked for a final bite with Uni after my two Rolls and he outdid himself with a Uni + Pear + Mint Nigiri that was out of this world!!!

What can I tell you that already hasn’t been said. This place is busting at the seams on a Monday and Tuesday night with eager patrons waiting to eat the city’s best sushi. The sushi did not disappoint either. I ordered the premium chefs choice sashimi, The Uptown Roll and the Agedashi Tofu. All of it was so good, fresh, clean and flavorful. The tofu was the best Agedashi tofu I have ever eaten. The dashi was super flavorful and smokey, coupled with the bonito flakes with a perfectly prepared tofu. If you’re looking for sushi, you CANNOT miss this spot.
Our sushi chefs were attentive and personable without being pretentious.
Our server was a bit of aloof but the quality of the sushi more than made up for it.

I’ve been here so many times by myself or with friends. This place is one of my favorite sushi place here in utah. i love how fresh their TORO is it’s my fave fish ever! I would say food is good like 5 star!
But the reason i put 3 Star is because earlier today, me and my friend decided to request a SPECIAL TORO ROLL and we specifically ask the server (Madelyn? or Fiorelli?) what we wanted in the actual roll. We ask for a shrimp tempura and cucumber inside and Toro, avocado with a spicy mayo and Eel sauce on top. the size of the roll are so small even the toro on top was thin. (the tempura are more bigger lol)
i am not gonna lie that roll was bomb it’s really good!
And here comes the bill, we end up paying $51 for that one special roll lol apparently our server was told by a chef how to price it out. in our bill it was so confusing how they charged us.
we felt ripped off and disappointed when we saw it.
it’s not that we can’t pay for it lol i always spend $$$$ to eat out in sushi places! we even tip our server 20+%. it's just the feeling that you got betrayed. they probably thought we did not know anything about sushi lol. our server did not even let us know how much will it cost us or how they will made up a price. we are still in shock that the one roll we got are more expensive than Nobu.

Make reservations y’all!
This is hands down one of the best sushi I’ve tried in my whole life, the quality and freshness of the fish here is really hard to match in other sushi places around the US.
They have a good amount of sake variety and their menu is excellent.
I could be talking forever about this place but you really have to experience it yourself to understand what I’m talking about.
But like I said in the title, make reservations y’all cause this place really gets packed and if you don’t make a reservation you will be waiting a long time to be seated.

Every dish was a banger. This place is off the charts good and anyone that appreciates sushi will not be disappointed. I had 5 pc sashimi hamachi, ceviche roll (they offer actual ceviche too), toro tartare (with the truffle oil), and I can't remember the last item but it was recommended by my guy Mike (who is a real homie btw). I was in town for only a couple of days but I'm so glad I gave this a try. 💥💥💥

Just the right place to have a date night or a family dinner. I noticed that this place has a high demand, you have to come early to find a table. The reason is because the food and service is so good. I love all the variety of sushi they have, they also offer other entrees like BBQ pork and chicken salads, and many healthy food dishes. I really recommend this place.

We love Takashi! Since we moved here from Atlanta, GA., several years ago - it's been our #1 spot in town for sushi! Sure, there are other places in town... but, there's only ONE Takashi! Their sushi is always the freshest, always delicious and the service is always on point.
Their Panna Cotta is one of our favorite desserts anywhere and as you can see in the photo, we always get at least two of them. Make sure you order your dessert when you first sit down if you want one, the Panna Cotta usually sells out and won't be available by the time you're ready to have it.
The Imagine Roll is a favorite, Willy's Chilis... anything here is good. Great cocktails too.
My one and only complaint about Takashi is no reservations! Pretty much waiting no matter what. They open at 5pm for dinner, and there will be a line by 4:30. This last time we got there at 4:45 and luckily we were first in line and first to be seated. I wish we could make a reservation - if you come around dinner time, you'll be waiting an hour +. But, it's worth it.

Been coming here for decades. Fantastic fresh sushi import from Japan 3 times a week. A gem in Salt Lake, like no other. The only issue is how busy it gets. But you can spend time in their bar next door while you wait or get there 15 min. before they open, on the weekends, so you can seat immediately. They do accept reservations for parties of 6 or more but you have to call as soon as they open.

The food is good here! However a bit annoying that they charge an extra $1 for gluten free soy sauce since I have celiac and can’t have gluten. I’d understand if Tamari (gluten free soy sauce) was exponentially more than regular but the price is pretty comparable. Other sushi places in the area are very accommodating and do not make extra charges for gluten free items.

Service was ok. The water came without ice and warm even though we asked for ice. It sucks that they don’t take reservations for parties less than 6 and they still serve canned soda like if was a little joint. Sushi prices are not cheap… it’s time they buy a fountain soda machine.

In comparison to sugarfish (where we were last week in Manhattan beach) you’ll be like, 😩 ugh, this place is barely edible. Definitely mediocre to borderline not so great fish. The sashimi was soggy and the sweet shrimp not so sweet: Though to be fair, 3-4 of the fish were decent (anago, New Zealand salmon, torched sable fish).
However, the rest of the fish was chewy, soggy and bland, including maguro, yellowtail, regular salmon, octopus, etc. The rice also wasn’t even seasoned like it should be.
I expect my fish to be fresh and cut well over tasty sushi rice. Not every place can be yasuda, sugarfish, sennin, seki, morimotos, masa nyc. Really, I hate giving a bad review but it was super mediocre. But I guess if you’re the only game in town…. Fly to nyc or Los Angeles for well cut fresh melt in your mouth sushi over real sushi rice (who puts fish over white unseasoned rice and calls it authentic sushi??).
Very disappointed.
PS- immediately after leaving here, we headed straight to a Mexican restaurant a few blocks away to eat for a fraction of the price. Two dinners within 3 hours bc we needed to get the bland soggy sushi taste out of our mouth….
