We liked Sushi Yu, but we were not very impressed with the service and flavor of most things.
We enjoyed the Hulk, Rocky Mountain and DTH rolls. The other rolls were not the best as they were deep fried.
We had their all you can eat dinner and the rolls were the same size as the Ala Carte menu which meant we for sure got our moneys worth, however I would have loved to have small versions of the rolls so we could have tried more. We got full very fast.
Our service experience was definitely a strange one The restaurant was in awkward silence when we came in and we had to request the music to be turned on.
We would have loved a server who gave us guidance on our picks and helped us get the most out of the selections. We had to proactively ask for the soup that came with it.
We likely won’t be back, but if you’re a fan of lots of sushi don’t hesitate to give it a try!

This place was an awesome experience we showed up right around 3pm and got the dinner all you can eat and the food was delicious soild 8/10 we ordered 6 rolls at a time the first 6 came out pretty fast the second round was a little slow but there was 2 other groups ordering a lot and they will not bring you everything at once to avoid food waste and I'm OK with that they check on you often but in a polite and not so in your face will definitely be back

Had lunch here today, and the sushi is really good. I didn't order a single roll that wasn't delicious. The service was fast and friendly, and the place seems really clean. The dinner all-you-can-eat price was beyond reasonable (right around $28). For the money, this place is hard to beat. Miso was also spectacular.
My favorite roll is the black dragon. The nigiri was also super tasty, particularly the seared tuna.
I'll be back.😋

It’s fine. Nothing special in my opinion. Sushi is ok. Nothing to complain about but I don’t think I’ll be back. All the tempura rolls I ordered tasted the same. My husband ordered the Rocky Mountain Roll and that was our favorite, very fresh and flavorful. The value is great! If you’re a sushi fan and like to eat a lot of sushi in one sitting this is for you.
We walked in and it was dead silent. We had to ask them to turn on music (we saw they had speakers). When our rolls came they were all on one plate and no direction was given as to which roll was what.

The food is really good, the price is fair the only thing that was not good was the fact that the table we sat at was all wobbly. Having two small children it wasn't the best having to worry about our drinks flipping over all the time. Other than that it was a good experience.
Definitely a good value if you're looking to gorge yourself on a bunch of sushi and Chinese food

Holy hell terrible, the worst food I've ever eaten it was so bad we left most of what they brought on the table then they had the audacity to say we owed more money cause we didn't eat it all. It was disgusting, paid $100 for the lunch special for three people, and they still wanted more money cause what we didn't eat.
If google had a negative I would give them that .

I love this place we take our kids all the time. But tonight it doesn’t make sense that we got here at 7pm and people are inside and the doors are locked. We called and knocked on the door with no response or answer. Frustrating!!! No sign on the door.

The restaurant and bathroom were clean. The sushi was okay. However, half of our order wasn't brought out with the sushi. We didn't say anything and when we were done waiting to pay, we were asked if we wanted the rest of our order? $84 for 3 people seemed steep for the quality and service. Disappointed.

Today was my group's 2nd time coming to Sushi Yu.
It was only due to Sushi Ya being closed right down the road. The atmosphere is dull, it's like eating in a library. The waitress/cashier/owner, I think, is insanely awkward and does NOT watch for refill or ordering needs.
I'm not sure how many people are employed here, but it just feels like they don't have really anyone staffed... Our Sushi order took over an HOUR to come out. We came in at 12:30pm and patiently waited for our rounds of AYCE. We left at 3:45pm, if that's any indication of how long we had to wait on 2 ROUNDS of Sushi...
The service and atmosphere is HORRID. But the food isn't terrible. So that's the only thing saving me from giving a 1 star here.
I will say that we do NOT plan on returning, if you want great service, atmosphere, AND food, go to Sushi Ya, they are fantastic. I cannot recommend coming here to anyone.

One star, only because we ordered AYCE and received our Cali rolls and some random roll we didn't order. We never got our remaining rolls that we requested on the back page. Pot stickers were tasty and crispy! Orange chicken was very spicy as we ordered that for our kids. Ended up having to order another meal for them.

Loved it. Great food, great service on a Saturday afternoon. Sounds like service may suffer in the evenings which is to be expected. I wouldn't listen to the 1 star reviews if you're looking for a good all-you-can-eat place. Give it a shot, it's way worth it.

The food was delicious, but me and my friends got profiled at their restaurant and accused us of ALYCE sharing. I was also told it was inconvenient for me to ask about my missing roll (luckily they didn’t charge me for it). Also your waiter sucks by saying “it’s so busy back there we have other tables” no way! This is a restaurant right? I simply just asked if I could have my missing roll dude! The Asian woman working there (I’m assuming the manager) wouldn’t stop staring and coming back to our table. When we went to pay, we asked to split the bill, but then she acted like she didn’t know English so I just said we can pay with one card and then took payment understanding exactly what I said…I won’t be dining here again.

My sister really like this place BUT this is the second time she have a really bad service, tonight they make her wait for an hour more people came after her and everyone get service and they never even come to get her order, the people from the other table ask her "they haven't bring you anything yet? Everyone noticed she felt so embarrassed and leaves, she try to paid her drink and the waitresses told her "we are so busy come back tomorrow" WHAT A SHAME she is being costumer since they opened. she left in tears RUDE....
I doesn't let me reply anymore BUT And she appreciates the offer but that was after your waitress told her to come back tomorrow because you were too busy and also, after you served 10 people who arrived after her. But thank you for the offe, I was with her on the phone when that happened and when she was crying of embarrassment

The sushi was a 7/10. The orange chicken and broccoli was bad. And I mean bad.
The service took the trophy of worst service I’ve had in a while. Look, I’m not picky, just smile, be polite, answer questions, that’s it. Our server refused to answer questions about the menu. Only saying that it depends on what you want. Everything was a best seller. Wife was NOT happy. I was laughing to myself. We tried.
Bathroom smelled too.

A great little all you can eat place. $20 for lunch items, $28 for dinner. Waitress was great and the sushi was well worth it. My only complaint is the tempura is a little oily/greasy, and the tempura vegetables were cut a little too thick. Everything else was fantastic.

Not family friendly, the service was very poor and me and my son got food poisoning.
-called and made a reservation for my daughter's birthday and when we arrived they didn't have seating arrangements for the party.
-I tried to describe I was pregnant and I can't have raw fish and due to the language barrier she did not understand.
-one member of the party never received a drink and another had to go up to get a refill, another was brought the wrong drink.
-there were only two other tables that were there during our time of being there so it wasn't busy but took over an hour to get our food and Noone visited the table to get our order or refills once.
-they brought the sushi out on one plate and did not mention what any of them were included the roll that was supposed to be cooked for a pregnant safe roll.
-my 4 year old son who only ate the sushi has been throwing up and me while pregnant have been sick from eating that same roll that can be detrimental to pregnancy.

The waiter seemed to be upset i only ordered 2 or 3 items on the first paper. They should probably make 2 menus per paper and just cut them in half to save paper. Food was pretty good. No Octopus which is my fave and also no salmon eggs. Then they started adding more rice the closer i got to all you can eat 30 dollar mark. The guys were super friendly and nice. I had to bring my paper to the front to get more food instead of the waiter coming to get. Definitely room for improvement.

Your whole table has to order All-You-Can-Eat. We went with a group to lunch, some wanted sushi some wanted chicken bento boxes. They wouldn't let some of us order all you can eat and some from the regular menu.
Rice wasn't sticky enough on the sushi. A lot of pieces fell off into my soy sauce.

I liked this restaurant. I think the roles were good. I originally went for the all you can eat, but you would have to pound at least 3-5 roles to break even. We ordered seven roles and it was still cheaper for three. The staff was nice and the place was clean.

A tidy little restaurant with nice staff. The food is not bad, but it's a bit underwhelming. It's got a buffet menu, so don't expect the highest quality food. However, if you want all-you-can-eat sushi and you're on a budget, it's not a bad option.

Got the sushi burrito... Or more like a large roll. It was not a burrito, just a regular roll with more rice to make it a little larger. Not worth the money. Don't get the burrito! It was also super fishy smelling, I know..i know it has fish and crabin it...but the smell so strong it filled the whole room, stank! I've eaten lots of sushi and never had as strong of a fish smell as that. Flavors was ok, not super defined taste of individual ingredients. Best thing was the side of eel sauce that came with it.

My family loves sushi, so we decided to come here for my kid's birthday. I'm always nervous about trying new places, but thought to myself, how bad could it be with all the good reviews? I knew the moment it came out that there was something wrong. The presentation was terrible! When we started eating it, all of the rolls were falling apart because they weren't rolled properly. On top of that, the rice was way undercooked and the fish was not fresh at all, really fishy tasting. We couldn't eat anymore after the first order, so went to pay and let them know that it was undercooked. They still charged us full price instead of offering some sort of discount. What a waste of money and it ruined my child's birthday, and to top it off, I've had a bad stomach since I ate it! So, YES, it's that bad and obviously we will never go back!

Somewhat confusing honestly. First time there, we were confused by how it worked, when we asked, it was hard to understand the waitress. Maybe if they could spell out what to do on the paper to checkmark, that would be helpful. We werent entirely sure what we were to do with it. We went with the all you can eat. Severely understaffed. Sat around for 25 minutes without even getting our drinks taken. Felt bad for the lady trying to juggle serving the 20 people already eating while there was maybe only one other person working and cooking in the back. After waiting and not having our order taken, we just left. Hire more people and we'll come back for the next Friday lunch rush!

We came for lunch, only 2 employees working- 1 frantically making sushi and 1 trying to keep up on tables. We waited 30 minutes and no one even came to get our drink order. We took our sushi order to the counter and there were 5 papers ahead of us. We ultimately decided to leave. There were people who also hadn't received drinks when we left

This place has been a go-to sushi spot for me and my wife, work colleagues, and friends for a while now and they never disappoint. For those who don't know, this place was a Thai restaurant before that was also very good, but their conversion to an AYCE sushi restaurant in Utah has been amazing.
Is this the best sushi you can get? Probably not, but it's very, very good and ranks among my top places to eat in Utah overall.
As of the time of this review (March 2023), AYCE Lunch for one person is $20 and dinner is $27. Those are quite amazing prices given the service industry as a whole these days, and the service and quality of sushi exceeds it. They also have some traditional chinese/asian dishes and lunch specials at very reasonable prices if you're looking for a bento style meal.
The restaurant never feels too busy or loud, and even during lunch and dinner hours there's never a drop in quality of service. They have plenty to choose from on the nigiri and long rolls list, and pretty much all the staple rolls are here. Deep fried rolls are always breaded perfectly, and they do a good job of making sure they don't bring them out to you piping hot either. Nobody likes a deep-fried roll that's way over breaded and feels like you just put a scorching hot coal in your mouth, and this restaurant has figured it out.
Though they do go a little heavy on the rice for nigiri, long rolls are made perfectly. Another slight knock is that the lunch menu is a little limited, with only slight variations in some rolls; you can only repackage avocado, salmon, and crab so many times before they all feel the same. Still, the rolls are made well enough that I have no other complaints. If you go for dinner, that problem is eliminated entirely.
I recommend this place to anyone who's interested in some very good AYCE sushi in Utah, and I'll continue to keep coming here so long as I live nearby.

I came here to eat for my 1st time and I definitely have to say they do offer a lot of rolls but non of them really have photos and the server was absolutely clue less when I ordered. I ordered 1 roll it was a Mars. I told her and she stared at me like I didn't know what I was saying. She said what and again same reaction so I opened the menue and pointed. She said OK. I asked about ham fried rice because $11 for a plate to feed a 4 year old seemed ridiculous and come to find out that's what it costs they don't offer any smaller size. Food was okay but that was about it. You will find another sushi restaurant that has better service and a little better pricing else where.

This is not a place I will ever return to however others around us seemed to be receiving better service than we were so maybe you’ll have better luck. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated immediately. We sat at the table for 10-15 min before we gave our drink order and then we sat there for 35 min before they took order. Meanwhile the table of 4 next to us arrived after we gave our drink orders and they had their order taken and delivered before we even ordered. They ate all of their food and paid before we got a fraction of what we ordered. We ordered 6 California rolls and 7 speciality rolls. They brought the California rolls for the kids and then we still waited another 20 min before the adults rolls came out. Over a 2 hour period we still only got 9 of the 13 we ordered. I told the waitress we were still missing rolls and she said they were on the way. We got 2 more and then waited another 20 min for the last 2 before we decided the service wasn’t getting any better and my patience had ran out so I just went up to the register and told her we were done and asked for our check. When we sat down they told us it was $14.99 for kids in their all you can eat but still charged us $27.95 for the kids and then considering we averaged less than $15 per person in rolls I asked to be charged per roll opposed to their all you can eat price. They then still charged us for the two rolls we never got. No one ever checked on our table, we had to request drink refills from two different employees before it even happened. Honestly the most frustrating dining experience I think we’ve ever had.

I have no idea how this place gets as high of a rating it does. I came here for dinner and the rice to fish ratios were absurd. Everything was packed with mushy and under seasoned rice. Do NOT get the specialty rolls, especially anything with eel sauce. They do not use actual eel sauce but a liquid artificially sweetened soy sauce blend that reeks of being cheap. Even the simple nigiri is ruined with a scatter of sesame seeds that do not belong. The bill for two without any drinks and a 20% tip came up for $70.

We went because this place had all you can eat. The miso soup was decent, the veggies were pretty good too. Then we got a few rolls and that’s where I wasn’t impressed. It seemed like they were a little stingy on sauce on top of the roll, there was a lot of rice and the one fried roll we got was super greasy. It wasn’t but they need to fix a few things. Good sushi does not have that much rice…

Franchise/Location: Sushi Yu is a great sushi restaurant. I went on a monthly basis when they opened but have had a hard time going lately. My buddy and I enjoy their flavor selection and it used to be priced pretty good, but it's been harder to want to visit with the price increases, and the slow service (it takes about 45 minutes per round of sushi... 3 rounds takes about 2 hours!), And the lack of identifying rolls when you receive them.
The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is really cozy. It's never busy before 6pm, and that lends to a nice atmosphere. Though for like a month it seemed like the AC went out or something, because it was really hot. But it's a serviceable enough place for sure... Unless you go when it's busy. Even if they have two other groups besides your own in there it takes almost criminally long to get your order.
The rolls are really good, some are even exceptional, BUT I wish I could say I had found a favorite in the past 8+ months. When they bring out the rolls they don't really tell you what they are... or, they have a bit of a struggle pronouncing what they are... either way, I've been eating these rolls and I don't really have a name attached to any of them in my head. I think that's a bit of a shame, by this point I feel like I should instinctively know what I like and what I want to order, or even good rolls to recommend to friends or potential customers like on this review, but I just haven't been able to memorize what things are called (beyond rolls found elsewhere), because more often than not, I can't tell which roll is which when I order them. And the server doesn't come around often enough for me to ask. What's worse is I order rolls I don't like, and I keep ordering rolls I don't like because I don't know what I don't like because nothing is attached to a name.
Overall, it's decent local Sushi. I've definitely slowed down coming in as a regular because of the price increase and because I am not learning the names of the rolls I'm eating. Maybe if they brought back their loyalty punch card (without an expiration date, mind you, that first one was IMPOSSIBLE to do in a single month), or if they get more staff or reduce their prices... I'd return to being a regular customer. It's good sushi to try if you haven't had it yet, and might be good for a local fix, but I really hope they change a few things to make for a better, snappier experience to compete with some of my preferred sushi chains.

For all you can eat sushi, this is excellent for the price.

I almost don't want to review this place because I want to keep it to myself! But it was very good, and the prices were about where I would expect them. I enjoyed the food a lot! It's a small place but cute.

It was nice to enjoy an early Christmas dinner with the family. This place uses good quality rice, perfectly cooked. The Nori was Gold Quality, Dark, Crispy and delicious. The fish quality was ok for Utah. Salmon ranked the best. The menu was HUGE on selections. So many unique choices as well as the standard traditional morsels. My favorite was the Colorado Roll "all you can eat" but a close tie was the Salmon Hand-Roll that the chef made special for me. One think I wish they would improve on, a little less (50% less) "Rice" use for the Nigiri please? I enjoyed the Eel as well.

Sushi Yu was a great all you can eat sushi option. The sushi was overall pretty good. The sushi options were great. I believe there were +100 different sushi rolls. The server we had didn't speak much english but enough to help us. We went on a Monday night and there were only 3 other groups there. The service was good.

Nice environment. There were plenty of tables available. Service was a little slow but very attentive to our needs and luckily gauged how full we were before bringing out more rolls. That was very impressive.

I did a large Grubhub order 5pm on a Friday night. BAD food. Dry rice on all sushi. Fish not fresh. Lazy quality of sushi rolls. MUCH worse then 'grocery store' sushi. I hate giving bad reviews... but worst food I have had this year, and it was not cheep $. :(

Sushi is awesome, dining area is really quiet- you feel like you also need to watch your volume (something I don't normally think about elsewhere). Bathroom could use a modern remodel. Also the last painting in the bathroom hallway is absolutely beautiful! I wish I could've brought it home with me😅

I did the ‘All You Can Eat’ Buffet option and it was pathetic. There was only 1 girl serving the entire restaurant but there was only my family and 1 other couple. It took about 20-25 mins per plate of sushi. I only ordered 2 plates of sushi, which was not even close to paying $26 bucks because you’re waiting longer than you are actually enjoying your food.
The service was extremely slow and how you order was not efficient. I overpaid for 2 plates of sushi that totaled to $15 bucks.

What the he!! did I just put myself through? This seems to be AYCE sushi rice - undercooked and no flavor. The only reason I kept eating was I kept thinking maybe the next piece will have some flavor. Nope, sorely disappointed. And to make matters worse, service was slow and unfriendly staff. We ordered 4 other items for our kids and when my 10 year old asked to try one piece of sushi, waitress immediately came to tell us he would have to pay the AYCE price as well. Are you kidding me? When it comes to sushi, always go for quality and not quantity!

Food is not bad at all! I haven’t tried that many things from their menu yet but from what I’ve tried so far I can say I highly recommend it, will be back soon to try more!

Every time we go to this restaurant with my girlfriend we have great times, the food is delicious, fresh, great in general, flavors are very original from Asia, sweet, savory and spicy, we enjoy it a lot.

What a treat! Their sushi was fresh and high quality. They sat me right away and it wasn't super packed. They have an all you can eat option for $26, which is great! I will be back.

Had such an amazing experience having lunch at this restaurant the other day, the food was really nice and the staff treated us great, they were really helpful to guide us through the menu since we are kind of new to asian food, also the unagi don and spicy cowboy burrito are a MUST try in our opinion, everything else was delicious as well!

Listen to me!!! The las vegas roll WOW if you are a salmon lover you need to try this piece of art, among all their rolls that one is my favorite, you would never go wrong with anything from their special rolls menu.

I really like sushi yu because the food is always fresh and delicious, when it comes to seafood I'm very picky because there’s nothing worse than bad quality or old seafood, that’s the reason why I love this place so much! The freshness of the ingredients is insane, best place ever.

Last week a friend was visiting me from Toronto and I wanted to take her to a nice sushi place because she loves it, I decided to take her to Sushi Yu since I always heard good things about it, it was definitely the best choice! she enjoyed it a lot! some of the dishes we ordered and loved: vegetable tempura, salmon sashimi, shrimp nigiri, new jersey hand roll, and the one we liked the most, the killers shrimp roll, which is literally a killer! we had a great dinner time.

For serious sushi goers, don't waste your time here. The fish did not taste fresh and the ahi was chewy. Also, they keep this place too hot with no music. Ambience is miserable. We asked them to turn on the ac and they clearly were annoyed by that request instead of apologizing for the 80 degree restaurant.

So many choices. It has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat!

I live near by and I was always curious to try it out, finally decided to give it a try yesterday and can confirm, is a really nice place! Their food taste good and different from the conventional asian places you find around, I recommend it and will be coming back for sure.

Sushi Yu is my favorite place to have asian food, I’m so happy every time I go there because it makes me feel back home, best place in riverton without a doubt.

The food from sushiyu is really good! Me and my boyfriend love this place because the food is always fresh and the staff is always friendly, perfect to have some sushi on the weekend or some casual lunch/dinner during the week, I highly recommend it them!

Had a very nice time here for a date! We just ordered a la carte since we didn't think we'd eat enough for the All You Can Eat, and that was nice to be able to do. Great rolls, great pricing, really friendly service too! They also have a sushi burrito option, which I might be back for! The chef was watching for us when we added a couple extra rolls and came over himself to grab our order. Great spot to satisfy your sushi craving!

Delicious sushi at a great price!
The staff was super friendly and attentive, coming to our table just when we were ready to order.
The Arizona and Summer rolls in particular were very good.

Food was a 7 but the service was really bad. Waitress asked if it was our last order of sushi during the all-you-can-eat buffet at the end, we felt like we were a burden.

Disgusting. This is why people don’t like sushi. Awful. I hope I don’t get sick.
