The value is awesome. Great service and the sushi is good for the price. We especially love the rolls when tempura or crystal shrimp. They do a great job with flavors and textures. The rice is kept cold, but I think it's just to keep the service fast. They pump out the rolls quickly and are All You Can Eat.

Their food is not fresh, and the rice distribution is not even. Their unagi tastes VERY VERY nasty..this place gave me a stomach ache as well.

They’ve tried to scam my group and claimed 1 person didn’t pay. We’ve showed all receipts and they still wouldn’t let us go. We counted atleast 5 times with them and they finally
let us go. It was so unprofessional and they didn’t apologize. They’re done this twice since I’ve been there.

Went in when it wasn't very busy. The interior surprised me. The outside makes it look a little bit shady/run down or whatever, but the you step in and realize it's actually a really nice place. Koi pond right as you step in, decorated really nicely too. The food was amazing. Easily my new favorite all-you-can eat. I couldn't finish everything, and got a box for a fee when I was finished (I was planning on ordering some to tak home for my friend and siblings anyway). Overall 5/5 amazing style

I actually like this place I think the sushi is pretty tasty. It is a little overpriced, but hey, who isn’t nowadays? My favorite roll is the hurricane I usually order two of those. I also love the Jason!
The downside is this place is a dive. They have been off for the whole month of November. I really think they should’ve had this place remodeled and cleaned up a bit while they were out! I actually like the employees they’re very good to me and my family.

Our waitress was fabulous. Super engaging and sweet. An older lady seemed to be micromanaging her and she handled it so well. The older lady was even annoying me by doing it. I'm going to guess she's an owner of sorts. The older lady made comments on what we ordered and even kept walking by reminding us to keep eating. It was super awkward. The salmon in all the sushi was not fresh at all. Disappointed to say the least at this place

Not one to leave reviews BUT terrible food, came here in hope of fulfilling that sushi crave of wild ginger down in Provo (they’ve closed) but place was gloomy, crystal shrimp roll was ice cold, nigiri was luke warm hopefully I don’t get sick (Will probably force myself to puke when I get home) The sauce tasted exactly like bottled great value teriyaki sauce.

Also the cashier was audibly irritated since we didn’t leave a tip even yapping to the other workers in mandarine that we didn’t tip. Mind you service off the bat was awful and aggressive.

we only finished the first round and left.

Also 43 dollars for food that’s worse than drinking hotdog water is pretty sad.

This place is terrible. The place is owned and operator by Chinese people. Before you jump to conclusions, I’m part Chinese. I didn’t find out until I walked in. I’ve was starving so I took a chance. Food took forever to get and was very bad. Tasted like cheap Chinese take out instead of Japanese. An example was the tempura. They use the same batter that you find in cheap Chinese 2 item combo sweet and sour chicken instead of panko. The unagi was drenched in so much sauce it was too salty and sweet to where you only taste the sauce and not the unagi. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you want Japanese food go to a place that’s owned by Japanese.

I go here with my sisters whenever I'm in town. The sushi is great, the selection is awesome and the price is right. The service is horrible (this time we waited in the empty lobby for 8 minutes to be noticed and seated, and then again to pay). One time, their credit card machine was acting up and did not present two of us with the option to leave a tip, it just processed and printed a receipt. The lady checking us out yelled at us for not leaving a tip even though their machine was at fault and told the other two in our party to leave more money to make up for it (is going to give cash, but that interaction changed my mind).
The place really feels kind of like a dive, but the food and price makes up for it.

Service was terrible.. and I mean terrible. We have been in here in times past and have had good service but tonight was enough to warrant never stepping foot in the place again. On top of it all We got charged a forced 18% gratuity because we have over 6 in our family but they are toddlers and literally hardly ate. This is meant for big groups not a family who wants to come and enjoy a VERY EXPENSIVE meal. Our total cost for a family of 7 (3 toddlers) was just under $200.00. The waitress didn’t speak English so we couldn’t even communicate and ask questions about literally anything. She was rude, always seemed to be rushing us and wanting us out.. giving our kids attitude. Next time we decide to take our daughter out for some birthday sushi and want to pay fine dining prices with a forced tip… we for sure won’t be going here. Honestly try wild ginger on university Ave. they have way better sushi.. all you can eat.. cleaner bathrooms, much better service and don’t force 18% for having kids even though it’s written on the menu for “GROUPS” of 6 or more and we can get out of there for 120.00 that includes taxes and a nice tip! And im not against tipping, we’ve owned and operated a coffee shop and tips is what kept us going at times.. 18% is fine… for excellent service. And I mean excellent… but these days everyone needs a tip I guess… earned or not. But for these prices and literally the worst service we have ever had at any restaurant… I would have left 0%.. Never again.

This is my absolute favorite place to go for sushi and probably food in general besides deltaco cuz deltaco is good and cheap. Sometimes the food is a little more pricey, but it is SOOO worth it. The servers are so kind, and the food is to die for! My favorite is the Jason hand roll. It is just delisious. The only maybe bad thing is it can get a little cold so bring a jacket but the goes for and good sushi place I believe. Come here to eat cuz it is 3000% worth your money!

New Review:
Looks like they might have gotten things figured out. Prices are the same, but they are making much more delicious rolls that aren't just rice and have a generous amount of meat inside. Service is more kind and attentive now. Will be going back. =)
Old Review:
They've raised their prices to 20 for lunch, quality of sushi has declined, and they can sometimes make you wait an hour for your food and its all you can eat so...yet they insist on a tip. Oh and they'll chew you out when SOMEONE ELSE ENTIRELY doesn't finish their sushi and they'll try to ding you a fee for someone else not finishing. Nice guys. I came back onto this review just to change it.

Walking in the appearance of the restaurant was quite nice. Cool fish, turtles, decor and a gigantic Buddha up front. Staff greeted us with a smile, but it felt like once we had our first order in, we were pretty much ignored. After our first plate of sushi when we were ready to order again, they questioned us and told us there was a limit to how much we could order.

Bathroom smelled interesting (not pleasant) seats sank and furniture was outdated and the dining area was a little dingy.

I hate to leave reviews like this, but I read reviews that says it was stellar and I wanted to share another opinion…

Food was okay, but I think I would go elsewhere for an all you can eat sushi experience next time.

This place has great food for the price. Lunch is a little cheaper, but some of the best rolls are on the dinner menu so it's worth the extra! It is a pretty old building and looks a little worse for wear from the outside, but it is definitely worth going in! The staff is usually pretty friendly, it can be somewhat slow service getting the food sometimes, but it's worth the wait. We plan ahead to spend plenty of time and enjoy the chance to just sit and talk. Makes a great date night!

We used to eat here whenever we wanted sushi, but haven’t been here for a long time. Decided to go there today, but it was a mistake. Got there 45 minutes before the lunch price ended. We ordered 1 entrée, 4 rolls (only got 3 of them), 1 appetizer which was a pile of crab bone instead of soft shelled crab, and 2 drinks. We waited and waited for everything but the first 2 rolls. The server forgot the entree and brought the soft crab appetizer well after the first 2 rolls were eaten. We could not get the server to take our round 2 order for about 30 minutes after round 1 was gone. There were only 4 other people in the restaurant, so they were not busy. We ordered 2 rolls for round 2 but only got 1 and it was not edible. The tuna inside the roll was a grey rubbery blob. We couldn’t down it but was charged for not eating it. Then, after waiting so long for them to serve us, it was after 4:00 and they charged us dinner price Over $80 for 3 people. 🤬 there are much better choices for sushi. Don’t waste your time or money here!

Me and my group of 5 friends all went there, immediately from the inside it has very nice lighting, great decoration and dining. When you sit down you all have a sheet of paper to order from, unlimited sushi is just phenomenal especially for $20/person. The Godzilla roll was so so good there. For unlimited sushi the service was fast, delicious and well worth the money. 10/10 would go again

I went here for a friend birthday a couple years ago and keep wanting to go back. I'm not sure if they still have the all you can eat sushi deal, but it was pretty fun getting to try such a variety of nice sushi. When I went though I guess because of the nature of it they didn't allow us to bring home leftovers, so we ate all the sushi that was left over. Ok listen this is an All You Can Eat Sushi place for 20$. You shouldn't expect the finest and fanciest sushi in all the land. I have traveled to many 20$ sushi places (like around 10-12) and Sushi Ya by far has the best fried sushi and normal sushi amongst it's level. If you want sushi but don't want to spend 100$ or more come here. You're wallet won't die from the bill. I've eaten here many times and have never gotten sick.

Our first time here is our last. It took a while to get our food, and it wasn't even busy. Never an offer to refill our waters. Biggest complaints though were that the fish was "fishy" (IYKYK) and didn't strike us as super fresh. The other one is that the rolls were made with too much rice. There's signs on the table that you'll be charged if you don't eat the rice, which I understand, but the rice amount per roll was far more than we've ever had before. I mean, it's a smart way to save on the other ingredients, but we will definitely not be back.

Do not waste your money in this place! They are so unprofessional, and the sushi doesn’t worth the price. Sushi has a bunch of rice, they take forever to bring your order and they are super expensive for the quality. My family and I used to love it when they first opened, after one year they changed it completely. Last time, after pay with card the lady asked me if I wasn’t going to tip, are you serious? And I was about to take the cash from my pocket to tip them, but after the audacity I refused to. Or and they always charged my kids full price. Never again!

Sushi ya is missing some of the things I used to love, but they still rock it after all of these years. If you want all you can eat sushi, I always recommend Sushi Ya!

I miss sitting at the bar, that was the highlight of my sushi experience there. But, things change and that’s okay.

One new thing we tried that we were told to try by Alyssa our waitress was the tempura veggie roll with a lemon slice to squeeze on it. That stuff is addicting! Thanks for the recommendation Alyssa!

This restaurant has changed over the years and not in a good way. I won't even get into the atmosphere. I'll just say that you can tell the restaurant is old. But I want to focus on the socialistic approach of this restaurant. Now I get that people suck and abuse buffets and I get not wanting to waste food because we need to respect the life of any animal but this restaurant's rules have gone too far for me to want to go back. I think their advertised "all you can eat sushi" is a joke with the rules they put in place. One rule is to not waste food or you get charged a fee, I can't argue with this rule because it's just trying to not waste an animals life unnecessarily. But it specifically says that you also can't waste the rice and if you are trying to eat all you can AND finish what you order, then back off on how much rice I want to force down. Additionally, tell me whR the fee is because in my case, I would've rather paid the fee then gag on a bite. Another rule is that you can only order 3 rolls at a time. If I'm trying to be understanding, maybe there should be a limit but not as few as 3. Without realizing the rule, I started an order with more than 3 and when the waitress came and picked up my first order she decided which rolls she would make and walked away and I didn't have a chance to say which I would prefer first. And with a buffet, how you spend your stomach space, matters. Another rule is that you can't order more sushi rolls until you finish what's on your plate. This is what broke me. I do not like having to wait to order between dishes if I come to a buffet. Once I start eating I want to keep eating. There is already a long wait time because sushi can take a while to prepare plus the normal wait time while other guests put in their orders. It doesn't please me that they add additional wait time to my meal. Today we happened to be rushed and the restaurant literally makes it impossible to eat quickly and to enjoy all you can eat with all of their socialist rules. On a positive note, they do make large rolls.

We generally tip based on service and try to give people some room for human error but this just ended up being a lot. Our main Server was decently nice but kept asking us “is this your food?” When she would bring it over and brought us someone else’s plate on the first round (we knew this because the paper she handed us back was the wrong one). The person who took our paper order for the all you can eat (not our normal server) just grabbed it and walked away, didn’t pause or stop walking or say anything to us and it took us a second to register someone had even grabbed it, not a big deal. But the second server then didn’t read or mention to anyone that we had written a food allergy and the word “Allergic” on the top of the paper on both sides on my order and my husband’s order and we hadn’t had a chance to tell her since she never stopped walking. We were still pretty nice about it and just politely let them know the plate they brought out at first wasn’t ours and that I had an allergy and my husband’s plate and the one they brought out had the allergen on it, they hurried to fix it so we still were planning on giving them a tip.

Then they never brought out ginger, wasabi, the little things for your soy sauce or plates (besides the ones with the sushi on it). My husband ended up having to flag someone down and ask for all of the above and then they never refilled our water, server made a comment to my husband when we ordered a second round of sushi (only three rolls). So at this point we were talking about just leaving a smaller tip or no tip at all. We went to check out and the price had gone up from what it used to be but wasn’t advertised anywhere we had seen so now we didn’t have money to tip (we always just pull cash out for dates so we don’t go over budget). My husband paid our bill and then as he was putting the dollar and change away the woman (second server who messed up our order with a food allergy on it) said “What, no tip?” to which my husband (who is a sweetheart) said, “oh, sorry.” And put the dollar in the tip jar even though the service had not been great. The woman then said (pointing in my husbands wallet at his cards) “what, one dollar? We accept card.” To which my husband said, “I’m sorry, that’s all we have, we thought it was only $20 a person so we hadn’t planned more.” The woman kept pushing the card reader towards him saying “you do card?” To which he said (again) “sorry, I don’t have any extra money right now. We had money for a tip but ended up using it for the bill.” The woman then scoffed and turned to the other server and said (in English so my husband could hear, mind you she had barley spoken English up to this point) “They only pay one dollar for two people.” Needless to say after all of that we won’t be coming back or recommending it to anyone else. Overall the food was ok but the service doesn’t make it worth it.

I love Sushi Ya! My boyfriend and I come here all the time! Sushi here is some of the best you can find in Utah for the price. It’s NOT overpacked with rice. I don’t know what some of the other reviews are talking about. Obviously they haven’t been to other sushi places in Utah. The fish is not fishy! It doesn’t taste old! And that’s saying something for Utah seafood. The tempura style roles are not overly breaded. And you can get your moneys worth after like 3 roles. It’s so awesome! The staff is actually so nice. Some other reviews complain that they are rude, but really they aren’t. A lot of Americans just don’t understand Asian culture. They are more blunt and they will make sure to check on you to see if you’ll finish your food, but this is not at all meant to be rude. Actually it’s the opposite. Seriously couldn’t recommend this place enough! It’s my go to place when I want to eat out.

This place was much better last time I came about a year or two ago. I ordered the All you can eat. Their rolls are LOADED with rice. So much so that it is difficult to eat more that two. The tuna, shrimp and salmon tasted old and had a bad aftertaste. The oil from the tempura tasted like it was bad. I was going to order one more but the server suggested I try a couple more popular items, both of which were full of rice, cream cheese and fried tempura and had a small amount of seafood. Usually I can eat a lot of sushi but it tasted awful and was so filling that I just couldn't. They ended up charging me over $40 because of the two rolls I could not finish. I am sorry to say I will not be coming back.

Edit: OK, so I have a sushi problem. I keep coming back. But I'm done. We got take out. DONT GET TAKE OUT. ITS JUST... blah. So bad. And the person who stares you down for a tip and doesn't speak intelligible English is just predatory. Seriously, the food was just ok. There will not be another review from me here. Rip. Off.

Edit: Love hate relationship, I cant find better sushi for the price. Still expensive. $21.60 for lunch. But hey, thats sushi.
15% off takeout.

Edit: I am sorry to say the quality has slipped. I hate to do this but I have to lower the review completely. The tables were sticky, the service was indifferent at best. The gratuity has changed from 15% for 8+ to 18% for 6 or more. Prices have increased by a couple bucks. Our ~$30 usual lunch meal was $44 this time. The people seemed irritated when I mentioned that a member of our dinner party had special needs. They also counted the sushi rolls as we ordered and had an attitude of watching us so we didnt break the rules. I used to go here every month and I've been going for ten years! Now I doubt I'll ever be back. Sad to see it go. I've heard Bonzai sushi is pretty good.

Original Review: Inexpensive and delicious (relatively). All you can eat with plenty of fresh and fried (tempura) options. For those who arent sure if you like sushi, try the eel, happy, summer, or crystal shrimp. If you really don't like sushi then try the bento boxes or miso or teriyaki steak. Expect around 60-90 minutes for all you can eat. (Including wait and eating time) the dinner rolls are quite large and well made. Lunch is filling and delicious. I always feel full and happy when leaving. (Maybe a little sick if I ate too much.)

Food was good, but service is pretty undesirable. This is the second time that this happens to me in an Asian buffet: being directly asked for tips. And don’t get me wrong, this is America, I know tips are expected and I’m always willing to give them, specially if I received a good service, but it’s so freaking uncomfortable when the waitress or the person charging you is always on you for this.

When I was paying, the woman was staring at the screen to see how much I would leave, and after I got my paper, she did comments complaining on the tips that the last clients let.

Besides that, the service was slow and we had to wait a lot for the second round, for not mentioning the fact that we had to give the papers to a guy who casually walked over there for the second round, cause the waitress would not come to us.

Again, food was good, but service has a lot to improve. They need to learn a little bit about customer service.

This place was actually pretty decent about a year ago. Rolls were a lot better. All the rolls today were a little bland and the waitress kept looking at me making sure I was gonna finish my plate. Cream cheese was missing in the philly roll. If it were like $15-20 this place would be more worth it.

I shouldn’t be shocked when your going to an all you can eat in the quality. But this just wasn’t great.
The crazy this was the flavors were different from each order of the same roll.
No planning on retuning anytime soon

If you have any real taste in sushi don’t go here. I got the spicy tuna roll and the Unagi roll, two simple rolls that are hard to mess up. As soon as the sushi was brought out i knew it wouldn’t be a good experience as they were 2 of the worst made rolls i’ve seen and the fish clearly wasn’t fresh. Halfway through the meal my gag reflexes kicked in because how poor the quality was, so i paid and left without finishing my meal. You might be thinking this a hidden gem because it looks like a dive from the outside but it is worse than it looks. Again don’t go here.

This place used to be good. Not anymore service is so bad the lady that “helped” us was very rude and disrespectful when I told her that one of the rolls was tasting funny and weird. They just don’t care about their costumers and just want to charge you… she even got mad because I took more than one candy at the register.

Sushies aren’t as good as they used to be, so do not come here, too pricey for poor quality food…

My hubby really enjoy their sushi, but the restaurant needs some serious updating. The booth tables wobble, the booth seats are horrible. It's dark and dingy looking inside. The restrooms look awful. The service is okay. Their is one young brown/blond haired waitress that is very nice and helpful but that's about it. The building needs some serious remodeling and cleaning. The atmosphere is really lacking.

I found 2 hairs in my rolls! I really wasn’t able to stomach much after that. The customer service was pretty awkward, maybe it was the language barrier but it was uncomfortable. Overall the flavor was good but I couldn’t get past the environment and the cleanliness issues. I will not be eating here again anytime soon.

Review for today 2/16/2023 Will Never return. No Greeting, Server threw menu's on the table walked Away. Asked about Drinks asked for Mt. Dew server Forcefully said NO! No Sugesstion of anything else. Rude Rude Rude... Sad that 2 years ago This place was good.

.Food was awesome....service not so awesome. We got sat right next to the front door and when we asked to move the server ignored us and points to the table and said "sit it's OK". Then we sat for ten min waiting for the server to cube get our sushi order, she never came, another server did. He was better but we had to ask him for drink refills. Because the food was good I'll go back once more but if the service is horrible I won't go back.

Server was great but but the food was not good quality. The rolls fall apart and have a thick layer of rice to fill you up quick. Even the water had an off flavor. I will stay close to a bathroom for the rest of the day as I’m unsure how this food will effect my gut

I’ve almost always enjoyed the sushi here, but the last time I went and took some family for the first time the quality of the rolls has definitely gone down. They were looser, and built way larger than necessary or usual. What use is an all you can eat if they essentially piling an excessive amount of rice onto each roll?

I do not reccomend this place what so ever. The food is pretty decent but the customer service and their policies are awful. It was 20 minutes until thevwaitress came and there were only 4 people there They didn't explain how their buffet worked. So my wife and I chose their buffet during lunch time but there was a section that they charge more for so they treated it like a dinner pricing. The meal went from 40 to 60 bucks. I tried to talk to the waitress about the price and then she got really aggressive and tried to tell me off. So I didn't leave a tip. She looked at the receipt and yelled at me as my wife as we were leaving that we didn't leave a tip. I just said yep and left. Also they charge you for having food on your plate so my wife and I were worried that they'd try and find an excuse to charge us more so we ate everything until we felt sick. Awful experience. I highly advise against going. There's places with better sushi and customer service for way less.

So I've been coming here for years on a occasions when I feel like eating alot of sushi. But unfortunately it was the last time I'm coming back. The lady who've I seen work there many times made me upset when she explained that you need to eat all sushi or you'll be charged extra. And I've told her I know the rules. But she storm off and was speaking Cantonese or Mandrian to the other employees very angry. When I got my last round of sushi it was not edible. The carrots were spoiled hence I was polite and ate it anyway. NEVER COMING BACK.

I’ve been here a handful of times, the sushi is good for a awesome price. How ever this last time I went I was not impressed with the service.

The staff was judging me on how many rolls I was eating and were annoyed, as well as how many times my waiter had to fill up my drink. It’s all you can eat, not how much the employees think you should eat. The waiter held up a sign that explained if you didn’t eat all your meal they would charge you extra.

When I went to check out the lady glares at my plate In disbelief and annoyance. I believe she even charged me extra since the meal was $26 plus my drink which should have been $28 which was my last visit. This time I was charged $32. Don’t think I will be bringing my business here again.

The sushi was great, but this was an awful place to take young children. Our options were pay half price for all you can eat, or full price for a roll for them. They wouldn't let us split a roll between them either. For three rolls and two dinner all you can eat, it was $110.
I'd go here on a date, but not as a family.

I love Sushi Ya. Years ago I made good use of their all-you-can eat option, but now I just order 1-2 rolls and that's enough. Prices have risen sharply due to inflation and gas prices (along with everything), but the quality is still great. I give it 4 stars because a couple of times I've gone alone (my wife doesn't care for sushi), they've stuck me at a particular table around the corner in the back section and I was only able to get another order in and a drink refill when I waited for 30 minutes and then walked up to the cashier counter.

Visited 3 years ago

Sushi Experience №183

The food was absolutely delicious. However, we received minimal service, (no refills and service was slow), and when it came time to pay the waitress demanded a tip. And by demanded I mean she slid the receipt back to me and tapped the tip portion to both me and my friends. I think I'll stick to Sushi House in American Fork.
