After visiting many sushi places, actually fishing and eating my own fresh catch I can say that this sushi place is awesome. I'm not from town just crossing on our way back from Yellowstone I found this place through Google and chose from the best rated places. Those of us who like to rate places didn't disappoint. You can smell, see and taste the dedication on each of these inspired dishes. Chef, my hat is off, congrats!

Really fantastic sushi experience with a lot of specialties you can’t easily find in Salt Lake City. Hand roll options, really high quality tuna, and uni. I think the uni was a little bit ripe, but I can’t fault them for that. Difficult product to serve and QC. I think this is my new favorite sushi place. The service was wonderful also.

Very delicious high end sushi here at reasonable prices. My favorite restaurant is Takashi and I feel like Ika is quite close in deliciousness! Very impressed by the nigiri style sushi here and sushi rolls as the fish was excellent quality. The blue crab salad was amazing and I had Blue Fin Tuna, Yellowtail, and Sea Bream sushi and they were all very delicious! Another standout was the blue crab hand roll it was absolutely delicious! I would say it’s much much better than Itto Sushi for the sushi quality level. Very happy to finally try the food here and will be back for sure

Not sure how we missed this hidden gem until this year! The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and the murals really make the atmosphere pop! The sushi is outstanding, you must try the Dynamite roll, and the Tornado roll (pictured). We also enjoyed the Yellowtail Sashimi w/ jalapeños. The presentation of each dish was on point, even the dinnerware each dish was presented on was beautiful. We topped off the lunch with Mochi, which again, was presented beautifully! Awesome spot, must try!!!

I have been a regular at Ika for years now. The food, the service, the ambiance, and the flavor are truly second to none in the valley. The owner, Tugsu, has poured his talent, his years of experience, his passion, and his entire savings into making this place a success - and it is. The Highway 215 roll is a triumph, the likes of which I have not tasted anywhere outside of Japan. The attention to detail and the service are incredible. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

WOW WOW WOW is all I have to say! (Just kidding, I have a lot more than that as I always do, hahaha).
In a singular visit, this has easily become one of my favorite sushi places in the Salt Lake valley. I have been wanting to try Ika sushi for a while now and finally had the opportunity to do so last week. From the outside, it is very unassuming and tucked away within the Riverwalk Shopping Center. The interior of the restaurant is not huge, so while my friends and I were over the course of our for dinner, it filled fairly quickly. I have visited multiple restaurants that were in this specific storefront location that haven't stayed (a poke place, teriyaki, and more), and I HOPE so badly that Ika thrives here because the quality of their sushi was exceptional.
One of my friends ordered the Brussel Sprouts which I had the opportunity to try a bite of. To be honest, my first instinct in a sushi place would not be to order Brussel sprouts, but I am so glad my friend did! They are cooked in a citrus white miso sauce and that flavor of the sauce absolutely transforms this dish! Very flavorful!
Moving to the sushi, I ordered some Hamachi nigiri and based on my research from other reviews, I really wanted to try out the Twist & Shout roll. When I tell you that the Hamachi nigiri had one of the best quality pieces of raw fish I have ever had, I mean it! Beyond the flavor alone, biting into this piece of Hamachi and through to the rice was like slicing through a soft stick of butter - the texture was perfect! I was almost shocked. To continue to on to the Twist & Shout roll, I cannot express enough that this roll is a MUST try. If you are like me and love a good spicy sushi roll, and this one has the perfect balance of spice. With the chili oil and fresh jalapenos, you have such a nice level of heat that balances so well with the rest of the roll. Also, the addition of the garlic chips adds a nice crunch to each bite without it taking away from the overall texture of the sushi.
To end my review, I ask one thing from people who live in this area - please help Ika do well and visit! It is so refreshing to find restaurants in this area that aren't part of a chain, and I want it to succeed so I can keep coming here and not have to go downtown for great sushi!

Ika Sushi in SLC is fantastic! The Hawaiian Roll is a fresh and vibrant masterpiece with yellowtail, crab mix, creamy avocado, and lemon slices, all wrapped in crisp cucumber. It's a refreshing burst of flavors in every bite. The ambiance is cozy, and the staff is welcoming. A must-visit for sushi lovers!

Fish was NOT fresh, roll was complete mush. The salmon was dark in color and very mushy, I probably shouldn't have eaten as much as I did but I was hungry.

Yummy! Stopped in and tried the twist & shout roll. The sushi is amazing. Lived in CA and this is the first place in Utah worth the hype. Dining experience was okay- I came in by myself for a quick bite during a weird time but I felt like I could have been treated like a normal guest.

When we sat down at the table and the waitress brought the menu, she was holding a bowl of water, which she accidentally spilled on my husband's pants and didn't even apologise. the spilled water remained on the table and the floor, none of the staff even tried to wipe it up.
There was trash and dirt under the tables, and chewing gum stuck to it. When the sushi was brought, the empty bowls of miso soup were still on the table, which already had little space. We had to put them on the next table ourselves. The miso soup was served very hot, it was oversalted.
The tuna roll was tough. The salmon and avocado roll was delicious, the salmon sushi was great. The rating is too high for such a place.

Being Japanese, i am very picky when i eat at Japanese restaurants. Too many fusion Japanese restaurants which try to improve on the traditional flavors by adding ingredients that are not normal are the restaurants that I avoid. Ika serves traditional dishes and the flavors are excellent

Went here after reading about how they make the effort to elevate the rice they use in the sushi. I mentioned that to the server who had no clue and just said she thought the rice was fine. That's what we had. Fine rice. I didn't notice the seasoning being special, and the rice on the nigiri we had was as compressed as most standard places places do it. Way too much. The concept of the rice kernels being separate at all was not there. Other reviews mentioned the authenticity of the sushi, I just mention it was not to the caliber of the sushi we had at an outlet mall sushi shop near Mt Fuji. In other words, standard, nothing special sushi at a mall. The specialty sushi restaurants in Tokyo, Kyoto and elsewhere, were better. Don't know how that matches being "authentic" or not. That's a term that gets thrown around a lot. I can only give my experience of eating sushi in Japan. It was very different here.
Now that's out of the way, we had an excellent meal. We started with the kumamoto oysters. The mignonette with the oysters was excellent. The deep fried soft sheel lobster with ponzu was excellent. The uni shooter with raw quail egg on top was nice. I don't know if I'd get it again, though. The miso soup was above average. The markup on the bottles of sake is more than fair.
We finished up with a selection of nigiri. All was good. I won't elaborate beyond having a couple pictures.
If I lived near here, I'd be back, but it's not better than my local place I go to near my house, so not as likely.

Neat little sushi spot. I went for lunch. Got the bento box with 3 options. Chicken teriyaki, spicy tuna roll, and sashimi. Sashimi was large pieces and tasted fresh. Tuna roll was good and chicken was good. Server took time to explain to me what was what. I also ordered the eel and tempura roll. Very good and again, generous portion of fish.
Everything was good and prices were fair.

Here is my take after visiting Ika Sushi in Midvale for a second time, to ensure consistency. This place stands out not only for its diverse selection of authentic Japanese items but also for its impeccable execution and service. While Takashi remains my favorite, Ika Sushi emerges as a top choice for anyone seeking the same high quality without the inconvenience of downtown parking fees and the lengthy waits for a table. The absence of Junmai Daiginjo sake (known for its extra filtration and crispness) on the menu was swiftly addressed as they sourced a comparable from their special stock upon request. Our meal began with perfectly shucked Kumamoto oysters accompanied by a unique and delicious ginger mignonette, followed by smoky shishito peppers and shrimp tempura with a light, crisp batter. The specials for the evening included live scallop, Shima Aji (striped jack), A-5 Wagyu, and Monk liver, all of which were exceptionally fresh and remarkable. The fish was cut to perfection and the sushi rice was seasoned well but still delicate. I cannot wait to go back!

We had an amazing time at Ika Sushi.
TG (The owner) was the nicest guy ever! We had a lot of good convo with him about fishing, Mongolia and the unique types of fishes he provides at his restaurant!
TG was very welcoming and friendly. He made the experience top knotch by helping us understand what kind of fish to try and by even customizing the hand rolls to what he said would be the way he would eat them to get the most flavor and enjoyment! (I highly recommend asking to have the hand rolls made the way he likes them, give him the freedom to impress you because he does not disappoint!!!)
Everything was FRESH and all the fish were very enjoyable as far as taste and texture.
They do not give you tons of rice to just fill you up! They actually want you to enjoy the unique taste of every individual fish and everything they top the fish with is super unique! Very different from any sushi place I have ever been to!
The artwork is beautiful, TG painted the fish you see as you walk in that circle the name IKA.
Last but not least, the dessert was AMAZING‼️
You HAVE to try the purple yam ice cream‼️ You will not find that kind of flavor ANYWHERE else‼️ It was sooooo smooth and creamy and definitely something unique that you can try that is unlike any dessert you will ever try anywhere else‼️
All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this spot for a great night out.
The service, friendliness and food does not compare to conventional sushi restaurants anywhere in Utah‼️
Thank you Ika Sushi crew‼️
10/10‼️

The quality of the sushi was good, the quantity a little skimpy. The sashimi was cut too thin, and the spicy tuna roll was mainly filler. The chicken was an ample portion, as were the vegetables in the bento box. Everything was prepared very well.

So I was that customer that came in right before closing.
I felt horrible and was just going to order to go so they could leave.
Puuje was such a doll and said no. and sat my family and treated us like we where the first customers of the day not the last minute ones.
The environment was amazing and well put together.
BUT.. This is nothing compared to the quality of food that was provided to us.
I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life at places from lower end to what I thought was high end. Like I mean a lot of sushi, I could live off seafood.
This being said. I was like Ego and the head chef on ratatouille. When they where served something that was just mind-blowing. My family normally scarf's down sushi fast. Not here. We took our time and enjoyed each bite as it was the first time we've eaten sushi and fell in love with it all over again.
The prices are reasonable for this quality of food and we tried to convince them to open a new location in St. George Utah where I know they would Do Extremally Well.
Thank you Puuje you are a doll and gave us an amazing experiance and raised the bar for Service.

This place is so good. After having come a few times, my go-tos are the spicy tuna rice cakes, seaweed salad, veggie tempura, veggie elixir roll and the ube ice cream is life. Pretty consistent on quality and flavor. Only things I haven't loved are that the tempura shrimp are enormous! and sometimes make eating them almost a chore to work around - be warned. However, most people like them. There was one roll topped with garlic butter that was so good the first time and the second not so much. outside of that, I really enjoy this place, the quality and unique options. I eat alone here often and service is great. they let me be while still attentive to what I may need.

The food is very high quality. Everything was super fresh, the rolls were well made and had balanced flavors. Even the miso soup was well made, which is a great indicator of how much a sushi restaurant cares about their food.

Let me just say... I never would have thought I was walking into such an elegant atmosphere just from the placement of the restaurant (inside a strip mall plaza). The whole experience was inviting and enticing, just like the food!! It's tough to find a premium sushi restaurant that's affordable, but not when this place exists. Staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, sushi was fresh and delectable. Don't wonder what's for dinner, head over to Ika and impress even your vegetarian friends with their veggie options (the bamboozle is fantastic) Specialty rolls are a must!!

Ika sushi is by far in MY opinion the best in town. I always start with the Hamachi Kama, (which is always cooked to perfection) they have it on the menu. Great prices, amazing staff, always make you feel as if you're the ONLY customer there. Service is great. And staff is attentive to all needs. Highly recommend this place. Very clean environment. 👌 5 stars for sure.

I was craving sushi so bad and since I don’t eat fish often, I knew we had to find a place worth of breaking a long period of no fish. What drew us to Ika Sushi was the diverse selections of speciality rolls. Most places have spicy tuna in almost every single roll and/or eel sauce on top. I can’t do spicy anything so having a wide selection of non-spicy specialty rolls was key. At Ika sushi, we were able to get a wide selections of rolls, some containing salmon only, mix of tuna/yellowtail/albacore, baked fish/crab mix, rolls with ponzu sauce (my favorite!), and Vegetarian/Vegan rolls.
We had the twist and shout roll, baked salmon roll, Alaska roll, tuna-albacore-yellowtail nigiri, vegetarian ume roll, vegetarian inari roll, and the vegetarian bamboozled roll. Every single roll was sooo good. The rolls and nigiri had a small amount of rice and lots of fish which is always a plus and allows you to order more rolls! We came on a Friday night around 5:30pm and there was no wait. Ika sushi is across the Midvale TopGolf.
We are definitely coming back to try the other rolls! Please don’t skip this place if you like sushi; Ika Sushi has a wide selection of speciality rolls, nigiri, and vegetarian/vegan rolls for everyone.
PS: I brought my own ponzu sauce to add to most of the rolls we ordered. :)

Excellent selection of very fresh, delicious fish. Interesting, tasty rolls. Authentic. Yum!

California roll tasted rotten. Bento box steak tasted like a mixture of what I imagine cat food and cooked hamburger would taste like. White rice had way too much vinegar. Looks nice inside and the pictures but food was very rough.

WOW. Came here in a whim, looking for sushi on a Sunday - think I might’ve found a hidden gem. The coconut shrimp/sashimi was exceptional. Great service, great vibe. I’ll be back!

My wife and I tried Ika Sushi for dinner for the first time, today. We ordered the Nasu Miso appetizer, and the Omakase Set Sushi and Ika Chirashi.
The Nasu Miso Appetizer is described as, “Japanese eggplant, w/citrus white miso sauce”. The eggplant appeared to be regular Italian eggplant, instead of softer-skinned Japanese eggplant. Although the skin on the eggplant was a bit tough, the meat of the eggplant was tender and delicious.
The Omakase Set Sushi is described as, “10 pcs of Chef's special nigiris & hand roll”. Each piece of nigiri sushi was dressed with a light nikiri sauce and/or garnished with a condiment like shiso or salty plum. The rice was a tad under seasoned, but the texture was good. Each piece was delicious.
For the hand roll, my wife chose a spider roll. The spider roll is a whole, tempura-fried, soft shell crab wrapped in seaweed with rice, cucumber, tobiko and avocado. It was substantial and delicious.
The Ika Chirashi is described as, “10 pcs, sashimi, shrimp, tamago & ikura on top of sushi rice”. The rice was a tad under seasoned, but the texture was good. However, it was sprinkled with a green powdered furikake seasoning. Some of the fish was dressed with a light nikiri sauce and/or garnished with a condiment.
Everything we tried was quite good. For the first time since I’ve been in Utah, I finally got to enjoy sushi that wasn’t just plain, undressed and ungarnished fish, and was more like the sushi that we’ve enjoyed in Japan. I’m already looking forward to returning to try the Uni Noodle, which is described as, "Special rich uni cream sauce w/ fresh uni on top”.

If you really like sushi, you should try this place at least five times a month. Really good, one os the best in Utah. Jay was super paciente and helpful with us.

So I worked at a 5 star sushi restaurant for about 7 years. I might not be an expert but rest assured I’ve been spoiled by some d@mn-fine sushi in my life. So when I say that this sushi was quite possibly the highest quality I’ve ever had PLEASE believe me! The chefs obviously take their work to heart. The rice was perfectly balanced (bad rice ruins sushi). The sashimi cuts were well-executed (and of incredible quality! They had melt-in-your-mouth hamachi toro!!! Wowwww!). The service was friendly, attentive, and not overbearing. Our server was there when we we needed him (with a genuine smile), but didn’t hover. Also omg the ice cream was to die for. It’s made in house and I swear I’ll be chasing the flavor perfection of that dessert for the rest of my life. This place deserves your patronage- I’d give it 10 stars if I could!
Edit: I’d just like to mention that I am gluten free (celiac - not by choice lol). The server went out of his way to make sure I didn’t order food that would make me sick. I cannot recommend this place enough

Excellent service and delicious food. I had the opportunity to be served by a Colombian cook, and I saw how my food was prepared. In a very clean and organized way. recommended 100%.

After having many different sushi restaurants in SLC I have given up finding a good place to have sushi. The altitude is too high for fresh fish and it never comes out right no matter how hard they try. Think about the trip the raw fish must take to get from sea level to 10k feet.

I had a nice experience here. Service was very good. Sushi is fine, but certainly not the freshest in the city. I would stick to the rolls, nigiri had a chlorinated aftertaste. Coconut shrimp was really great - I'd highly recommend that!

We came on a Thursday night at around 6:30. Indoor seatings are 80% full and we got seated immediately.
We ordered one grilled appetizer, one salad, three special rolls and one sashimi set. The grilled appetizer came pretty quickly, but the rest of our order took almost an hour to come. When we asked our server, he explained to us that we ordered later than a table of eight and thus our food is not being prepared until all of their orders are served. It was unpleasant to keep watching dishes coming out yet none of them is ours.
The food was pretty good. Cajun rolls are a little spicy. The blue dynamite taste great. Pacific roll is refreshing. Yet they are not worthy of an hour of waiting.

We’ve come here at least 5 times and we LOVE IT!
Our favorite rolls are the Tornado, Hawaiian, Blue Dynamite and the Cajun.
-TORNADO- my favorite fried roll! It’s wrapped in thinly peeled potato which might sound strange, but trust me, it’s incredible. I think it’d also be a great roll for people who are hesitant to try sushi.
-HAWAIIAN- super fresh roll! Salmon with avocado and lemon wrapped in cucumber 🤤I love getting this with the Tornado because they are so different and balance each other out really well.
-BLUE DYNAMITE- not only does it look great, it tastes amazing. The blue crab on top is a little spicy and tangy but the roll itself has a refreshing softness to it, the combination is perfection.
-CAJUN ROLL- this is my husbands favorite roll, it is super spicy and slightly smokey. If you are all about the heat. This is the roll for you.

This is one of the best sushi places I have ever been to, and I travel all over the country. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is great, and most importantly the food was excellent! Great experience all around, and I will absolutely come back at the next opportunity.

We have a couple of favorite sushi restaurants around the valley and Ika is definitely one of them. Although small and stuck in a strip mall type of area, their sushi is top notch. My wife from Japan is very particular about where she eats and this place ranks among her top 3 in salt lake city thus far. Their fatty yellowtail nigiri is so tender and delicious, they have large fillets of fish over the rice unlike some that have just a small piece covering the nigiri. They usually have Uni which is a necessity for us and their rolls are decent albeit a lot of them have jalapeno in them for kick, which seems to be a trend now, however there are plenty which don't. Overall this place serves very fresh sashimi, nigiri and rolls. Would recommend.

Everything was wonderful! The second we walked in we were greeted by three people and really felt welcomed! The service was five star. The food was out of this world! I got raw salmon and raw tuna 🍣. It was 5 pieces and they melted in my mouth like a Ruth’s Chris steak (no joke). All of my boys shared miso soup, edamame (to die for), the Blue Dynamite 🧨 Roll (my mouth was so happy), Sunset Roll, Avocado rolls, California Rolls galore. The Hibiscus and Green teas were rich and full of flavor. We live 4 hours away and my Husband and I will come back on dates.

I can't believe this place had been open for an entire year and I've never been here. I only found it when I was grocery shopping at Winco. Owners need to definitely put out social media ads and run promos to get people in here, because this place is 10/10. I picked up my order and the place was sadly completely empty! I will definitely be frequenting this place. Curiously i wonder if Bento boxes are offered for dinner hours and if there are kids options/meals available? I got lunch takeout, chicken katsu with cali roll (4 pieces) a blue crab avocado roll, and khaan roll.
I got home, unbagged my meal and was so impressed! Everything was well packaged and the food looked amazing. No surprise the food was so fresh and tasted amazing too!! I do have to say, beware of the blue crab roll. It's real crab and I got tiny shells in every other bite. But did I say it's real blue crab? Chicken katsu was so good all around and the Bento comes with a salad, and listen here. If you've been to any sushi place and get a salad with your meal, it's generally just iceberg lettuce, not even romaine and it comes with a scarce bit of wimpy dressing- but ikas was so impressive, it was a REAL salad consisting of different greens and veggies with delicious, bountiful, flavorful dressing. I think the effort of the side salad says alot about the quality of this restaurant and I look forward to my next visit here.

Truly some of the best Sushi I've had in Utah. The fish tasted incredibly fresh, the cucumber had good snap, and the coconut tempura shrimp appetizer was to die for. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming with genuinely happy smiles :)
