Food was good service was pretty slow but not sure if it was just because we had a big crew. Expensive cocktails IMO.

Beautiful- great service. The sushi was terrible. Honestly better sushi can be found at smiths- I was shocked. Second visit- last time food was mediocre, a shame because they hit everything else, if only I wasn’t coming to eat.

Worth noting there are 2 restaurants run out of the same location and it can be confusing. I had dinner at Saola and loved it!

Fantastic! The food here is solid! We tried a sushi roll, dumpling and the slaw for apps. For dinner we had two noodle dishes and the scallops. All were delicious. David was our server. Very helpful, without being over bearing, especially with his personal menu recommendations.

We celebrated New Year’s Eve at Saola, again. The food, atmosphere and service are excellent. Their cocktail menu and bartender are delightful. They can sometimes be short-staffed, if you are patient and allow the atmosphere, food and cocktails to work their magic you won’t be disappointed.

This was our third visit to this restaurant. The location is great and the service is good, but the food quality is on par with take out Chinese food at the price of a Michelin star experience. The calamari was chewy and overcooked, the gyoza taste freezer burn and the shrimp dumplings were terribly fishy. My daughter sushi roll was nothing but mayonnaise and flavorless baked whitefish, and my cod though cooked nicely was bland. All this for the bargain price of $200.00!

We will never go back

I’ve been here 8x in the last several months. Sometimes lunch, sometimes dinner, it is ALWAYS amazing. The quality of the entire experience is top notch and I am so thrilled to have found it. Had no idea there was a restaurant behind the Porcupine… let alone something this consistently delicious. Get over here and have some!!!! WOW!

Perfect anniversary date night spot! Very beautiful location snuggled up against the mountains, easy to find right off the freeway, and lots of parking. They also take reservations online.

Our waitress Katia was so incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, she suggested some amazing dishes that we had to try. I was so impressed with the phenomenal cocktails-the Lemongrass Mojito and One Night in Bangkok were our favorites. I loved the garnishing and the flavors were just dreamy. The Tamarind glazed salmon was the highlight of the meal. I loved the spicy oil served on the side and the noodles were delicious. The sushi is SO fresh and incredibly tasty.

So glad to have found this spot, looking forward to visiting again and bringing the kids as they have some items that they would certainly enjoy, even the picky eaters!

It was a quiet night, but that didn't take away from the service nor the atmosphere. Our server, Veronica, was very warm and welcoming. She knew the menu really well, too. I had the Chiang Mai Noodles and the curry tasted very authentic. We also tried the sea bass, various sushi options and our 3 yr old had the little pho (no kid menu, tho). All the flavors were fantastic! I highly recommend SAOLA!

Went here for my husband’s birthday. Clicked the “birthday” box and also put it in the comments and nobody acknowledged it. Food was pretty average, and it wasn’t busy, but service was slow. We tried SAOLA out on a Saturday night around 8:45. There were a few groups in the restaurant. We were seated in the back corner near the entrance to the kitchen. With so many open tables I asked to be moved to one that provided more ambience.

We weren’t planning a big meal but ordered an ap and entree. They didn’t have the entree so we ordered two sushi rolls. They didn’t have one the rolls ingredients, but made an accommodation for us which was very thoughtful. Still, not a great sign.

In general the food was ho hum. I was in the mood for Pho but $28 pho was not on my list of things to get. Maybe if they had a line out the door and incredible reviews. In general I felt the menu was fairly protein heavy, lacking veggies or salads.

The service was great. Friendly, fast, attentive. The atmosphere also. The space is beautiful.

I feel SAOLA has some soul searching to do between price/offerings, vibe, and possibly location. We walked to the 711 after to buy beers. There was more vibe there than in the restaurant. Perhaps it’s busy earlier at night or in ski season but something tells me it’s not. I hope they find their niche.

We stopped in after a day if skiing on the mountain to be pleasantly surprised with AMAZING Food! Gwen was our lovely waitress, I highly recommend sitting in her section. She paid attention to the details and made sure that we had all we needed to enjoy our delishish food. Hubby enjoyed a shrimp salad, it was super fresh and extremely tasty. I ordered a vegetarian pho bowl 🥣 and Gwen brought out some of the homemade chilli 🌶 sauce, it elevated the senses and I could not stop eating my soup as it was one of the best who's I have had! Very authentic! Hubby even ended up ordering a bowl as it was that good! Our son is a tad picky, bit was pleasantly surprised to receive his rice in a gold bowl!! 😁 the fresh lemonade was refreshing and had small chunks of fresh lemon and mint on top! If you are looking for a great place to eat, stop in, you won't regret it! Thanks for the delish food, we will be back to see you all soon!

We wanted to go to Pho Thin, but were unaware of the relocation/dining hour change/unavailable dine in option and already drove out from the avenues so we decides to give Soala a try.
The service was great, our server and the hostess were super helpful and patient with us.
The decor and ambiance were nice and chic.
The food however I didn't really love especially for the price. I got their filet mignon pho, and for almost $30 it was nothing spectacular. Not the best pho I've had in the valley, and for 3x the price of the average bowl I wasn't super stoked (I'm sure the filet was why it's pricier but tbh I didn't taste much of a difference between that and brisket I normally get) I also would have loved if it was served with a soup spoon so I could have more of the broth, and if the hoisin and Sriracha wasn't served in a rationed cup (same cup also... so if you can't handle spice or don't like/want Sriracha good luck I suppose)
My husband loves sushi (again wasn't expecting to get sushi tonight we wanted pho) so he opted to try the sushi here and wasn't too impressed either, the spicy tuna roll didn't have much spice or taste and the Vegas roll was very cold and not that flavorful either. Overall wasn't our favorite place but it was nice to try a new place out in the valley.

We rented a room for the weekend at the Marriott, which was right across the parking lot, and close enough to walk over. The atmosphere is very tranquil, and they have a beautiful antique rickshaw in there. Nita was an amazing server, so bubbly and pleasant. The food was delicious! Me and my wife had the garlic noodles with the steak in it. It was sooooo good. We loved it. Our son had bulgogi skewers, and it was perfect for an 11 year old boy.
Britney was a phenomenal mixologist. My wife and i loved the "one night in Bangkok" drink, which I would definitely recommend it. We liked it so much and it was so convenient that we went back before we headed back home. We had the same great experience, but with a different waitress, Erika was very attentive and knowledgeable.
I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area. I know we'll definitely be back.

REPLY TO OWNER:
She works for both restaurants as per my experience. She was serving for both restaurants. The comment is to that staff and the service. That’s why I left comment to you.

A weird place. that old short lady is extremely unfriendly! The waitress brought us to a table, and that lady then came several times and asked random questions. She first asked why can we use the door we went in. Why should we know? She works here, not us. She then emphasize that door should be locked, we should not use that door. We are first time here, why should we know??? Then she asked if we want lunch here. If we don’t want lunch, why were we there???? Cause she looked at me in an unfriendly way, the only interpretation of that question is that she wants us to leave. If there is a 0 star, I’ll give a zero. This is the most weird and uncomfortable experience I‘ve ever had. I don’t know which restaurant she works for. I’ll leave this comment for both restaurants.

I had a highly disappointing experience at this restaurant tonight, which prompted me to share this detailed review. Despite having reservations and arriving on time at 6 pm, our evening was marred by extensive delays and poor service.

It took 45 minutes just to get our water, followed by a lengthy wait for our drink orders and appetizers. The main course arrived after an additional wait, totaling almost 2 hours. The inefficiency extended to the check, taking over 30 minutes to be brought to our table.

Our waitress demonstrated confusion about our orders, notably our initial drink order of sodas that took an astonishing 1 hour and 30 minutes to be delivered. Despite expressing our dissatisfaction to the restaurant manager, the response lacked empathy and ownership.

When requesting a small compensation for the inconveniences endured during our nearly 3-hour stay, the staff struggled to recall our order, further highlighting the disorganization.

This experience, coupled with the lack of acknowledgment and resolution from the management, has left us profoundly disappointed. I cannot recommend this restaurant to others seeking an enjoyable evening, as the poor service and disregard for customer satisfaction were evident throughout. Our group, along with several others, expressed our discontent to the manager, yet the plea for understanding and empathy fell on deaf ears.

In conclusion, the appalling customer service and the overall treatment of guests make it clear that we will not be returning to this establishment. I sincerely hope others seeking a pleasant dining experience will consider alternative venues to avoid the frustration and stress we encountered

It's rare these days, when Pride of Ownership, Inspired Culinary Vision, and Personal, Wonderful Service all come together! SAOLA is simply a rare gem! While visiting on a ski trip from San Diego, my wife and I were so impressed with their Asian Fusion menu, the talented staff and the inspired owner Diem and sister, Gwen, that we went back the next day. The first night we ordered off the small plates menu, the second, Sushi with Brett the chef! Brittany, the personable & talented mixologist behind the bar is truly something special, Nita’s service and sincere personality are a treat, along with Brett, the sushi master, all combined to make our two visits something memorable. The menu is fun & unique, the staff professional & fun and the owners are committed to excellence! SAOLA is our future “Go To”, when in the Cottonwood area!

Tried SOALA for the third time tonight. The food is average and definitely not good enough to treat customers the way I was treated. Don't try this restaurant if you are a party of one because you will feel like they don't want your patronage. I arrived as a party of one and the hostess asked if I wanted to sit at the bar. I looked around the restaurant and saw 10 to 12 empty tables so asked to be seated at a table because last time I ate here I sat at the bar and the seat/small bar was uncomfortable. The hostess sat me in a corner small table very close to and directly facing a young family of four. My corner seat was so close I felt like I was invading their dinner party while looking directly at them. It was like I was just seated at the head of their table which was uncomfortable and I could see the family was uncomfortable also. So, seeing all the empty tables I asked my server if I could move. The restaurant was maybe at 25% capacity. The server did not dare make a seating decision and possibly face the wrath of the hostess so she asked the hostess if I could change tables the hostess told me no. So, I left the restaurant and will not be going back. I won't miss this place because the food is just average and over-priced. This is the type of restaurant that you walk into and want to succeed but feel like it won't make it. Each of the three times I have been here there have been many open tables. There are much better options in Salt Lake.

This was the first time we visited based on other positive reviews and proximity to where I live. The servers were very attentive and accommodating to the exact cocktail I wanted. The food was very good but a couple dishes came out lukewarm. I liked that the chicken used was thigh meat and cooked very well in the curry. The Japanese eggplant was very well cooked and had a delicious charred flavor. The shrimp dumplings were flavorful, came out a little warm and not hot. And on the dense side. The agedashi was probably the best I’ve had at any Japanese restaurant in the area. For a Sat night it was quiet but it will pick up in the ski season and feel more alive. Our server , owner I believe, was very concerned that we liked our food and were happy with our drinks. Can’t wait to come back with my family and large group of friends!

Absolutely fantastic!! I can't remember Asian cuisine I enjoyed more. I brought people I care greatly about on my one day off and have no regrets.

The lemongrass mojito was excellent, so was the general tsaos, beef fried rice, and filet mignon!

My wife and I tried Saola for the first time tonight. We were blown away by how good the food and service was. We had dinner with another couple and had a family style meal so we could try several different options. Every dish was elite, including the mint chicken salad, the salmon, pad Thai noodles with beef tenderloin, pineapple and prawn fried rice, and the sea bass. 10/10, would recommend. Can’t wait to go back and try some additional dishes. If you’re looking for some great southeast asian inspired meals, put this restaurant at the top of your list.

Such a beautiful building and landscaping. The patio looks great. Interior is wonderfully decorated.

I ordered Salmon to go. Absolutely astonishing fish, lovely exterior and a very rich and fatty, unctuous cut. Sitting atop a bed of perfectly cooked and seasoned pad thai, I savored every bit, but there was no way I could finish the entire entree.

After a long day of travel, taking it out back to my hotel within walking distance was really nice and convenient. First of many meals here, I’ll make a point of staying here when I’m in SLC. Only a few restaurants in the area can compare.

Amazing experience would be an understatement. This place was everything I was looking for when it came to traditional & delicious Vietnamese cuisine. You could tell there was love behind the food, and don’t get me started on the cocktails. Some of the best and most well balanced cocktails I’ve had in a long time. A restaurant truly full of very talented individuals! Highly recommend!

It’s a pan-Asian place that doesn’t do anything particularly well and comes at a very high cost. $28+ for a bowl of average Pho is shocking. I recommend Gossip, Pho 33, Pho 777 or Asia Palace as a much better tasting Pho at half the cost.

Fun place to get some delicious Asian food. It was easy to get a reservation through Yelp and it also seems to be a bit undiscovered so come and try it before everyone and their mom discovers it; because food this good doesn't fly under the radar.

Top tier, at every level. Service, atmosphere and most especially, food.

I’ve tried multiple of their menu items, from the vermicelli salad, to their filet mignon entree. Every dish is done with exceptional care and attention to quality, the creativity shines through. The vermicelli salad is almost - in my opinion - like a deconstructed pho.

Cocktails are also well crafted and delicious.

This is a remarkable restaurant at a perfect location for apres ski, or any other occasion. Can not recommend enough.

Phenomenal PHO. We got the Steak and Egg Ramen to share, and it was enough for two people. Not sure what they do with their noodles, but they are really tasty. Additionally their pork Banh Mi is out of this world! Very clean, the outdoor space is gorgeous as it sits at the base of the mountains.

Beautiful restaurant with a lounge feel throughout. It classifies is Asian fusion but the dishes are a bit bizarre. My friend loved the slaw salad with raw bits of salmon but the shrimp egg rolls had a weird tang like one of the ingredients had gone bad. Our server recommended the chicken fried rice. The chicken was rubbery and you couldn't taste any spice or flavor throughout the dish. We also ordered the curry and it was a bowl of mostly sauce. The sauce was very good but the dish had very large chunks of potatoes sweet potatoes eggplant cauliflower and tofu. We would have preferred chicken over the tofu but that wasn't an option and the potatoes in there or just weird.

Food was good, used quality ingredients, but was not amazing. The service was sub par. There were only 3 of us at our table and the server could not remember our orders and one meal came out over 5 mins after the others. The host had to refill our waters. Our drinks sat at the bar for 10 mins. Over all very disappointing for the price point. This is the first time I have under tipped in years. We will not return.

Took my father and 6 others to Saola for his birthday. (8 in the party). Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. Without alcohol the bill was $400 for dinner - with a 40 minute gap between the first and last entree service.

The good: A couple of the appetizers were actually quite good. The pork spring rolls being the best of these.

The bad: Unfortunately, it's a long list.
Note: We were there on a Saturday night but there were only 3 other tables with diners. (I don't want to give the impression that it was just busy. It was not.)
+ The food was mediocre at best.Much of the sauces were obviously out of a can. For an average entree of $30+ it felt like eating at Panda Express. Sickeningly sweet and artificial goop.
+ As I said above, the entree's came out at least 40 minutes apart, even though there were few diners.
+The wait staff was new, and she didn't know how to handle this. If our group had been smaller and not part of a birthday I would have left.
+ Zero interest from the staff to try and mitigate the experience. They could have don almost anything but we had to track them down just to get water refills.

I wish I had better news. I'm guessing that they want to deliver a quality experience but it felt much more like we were on an episode of Hell's Kitchen.

I will never eat here again. You have been warned.

Saola is a bit of an interesting spot right at the entrance to big cottonwood canyon. The prices are indicative of a very high end dining experience for metro SLC. While the food is fairly well prepared, I wouldn’t say that I was overly impressed. The wine and cocktail list is severely lacking, which makes sense, no great bartender is going to work at such a slow restaurant (winter with skiers IDK). If you want a quiet and romantic dinner for two, I’d suggest you try this out. If you want any semblance of energy or vibe, you’re not going to find it here. Overall, it’s a nice spot that is overpriced and somewhat underwhelming. I’d skip dessert and appetizers. If you want a $30 Pho, you’ll find it here. My tip to the restaurant if you want more vibe? Get some serious happy hour vibes and offerings going… your price point is way over even if you have rose gold everywhere.

We like how the place is decorated. It could have been better if they had put the pineapple fried rice inside the pineapple like in the photo they have on their online menu. Some other Thai food places usually do style like that. The food got the taste, but the shrimp fried rice was salty. Cocktails looked good from what I saw at the bar. Mine was good, too. We like the rice cake (bột chiên). The chicken salad was ok. I wished they had put more decorations in their dishes when serving the food on plates.

DELICIOUS! Everything about Saola is amazing. The food was so original and unlike any Vietnamese place I’ve been to. My favorite part was the garlic wings appi and the Wok Fried Rice Kimchi and beef tenderloin. They were done so well and the sauce was outstanding.

And, the food and service are not lacking in any way. Our delightful server was very attentive and made sure our drinks and food came out quickly and accurately.

Wow! If you have not been to SAOLA yet, you need to go! It was so good, I forgot to take my usual food pictures to share. SAOLA checks all three of the major boxes I consider for a favorite local restaurant: 1 - excellent service, 2- delicious food and 3- nice atmosphere. SAOLA has it all.

The wait staff was attentive, fast, and friendly. But, we were there for a relaxing night out, and we never felt rushed to leave or order quickly. Great staff and excellent service!

We started with the Beef Bulgogi Skewers, which were tender, sweet and delightful. We followed that with the Nem Spring Rolls, which had an awesome flavor and a great crunch.

For drinks, I sampled the Lychee Cosmo, which was delicious and sweet.

For dinner, we split the French Dip Banh Mi. I highly recommend splitting the large plates. When they say large they are not kidding. With the two small plates and the one large plate, we left absolutely stuffed.

No dessert this time, but we will certainly return for more delicious food soon!

Overall disappointment. Ignored other low reviews and tried it for myself. Ordered the Chilean Seabass, which was cold, slimy and overall tasteless. The rice was under cooked, dry and also flavorless. The whole table asked for a salt shaker. Several of the menu items share common items, so you would think they have those items dialed, but it appears to be an attempt to pad the menu more than provide actual variety.
Saturdays at 5 typically draws bigger crowds to any other restaurant so it should have served as a warning sign when we walked in to find 2 other tables occupied.
One saving grace was their drinks (hence 2 stars) Vodka Thailand Iced Tea was great, Starzerac was good. Cost was just not worth it. Will not visit again.

This is a beautiful restaurant. The food is good, but a little uneven. The highlights: citrus slaw, shaking beef. Just OK spring roll, garlic noodle shrimp, general tso's chicken, walnut prawns. Absolutely horrible customer service. We were waiting for a table along with two other couples. None of us had a reservation. They seated the two couples in front of us and then told us they couldn’t seat us without a reservation. We ask if we could sit at the bar which no one was at and she told us no the kitchen is booked and we wouldn’t be able to give you good service. She didn’t even offer us a time to come back….not that we ever will anyway now
