This was a fantastic sushi spot. I ordered the firework roll and hamachi heaven roll, and both were phenomenal. I also had the seaweed salad and edamame, also delicious! The price was pretty average. The wait-staff was top-notch. This is the sushi spot you want to stop at if at all possible while in Waco.
Now I have been here twice and I can confirm, this place is fantastic. We tried ramen and tempura cheese this time and both were wonderful! The cheecake was so unique with a salty sweet vibe going on. We even had our waitress try it with us (she hadn't tried it yet). Again, this place has awesome food and great wait-staff.
Don't miss this place.

Great place. My 15 year old nephew's favorite place to eat. We come several times a week. The staff know us well. Lucas' tradition is to play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with our waiter or waitress on every visit. He normally wins. But not always. Love this place.

Went with my bestie, we split the spicy tuna roll, crab ragoons, and got 2 types of ramen. The spicy miso was phenomenal! The pork melted in your mouth and it had the right amount of spice to it.
The waiter was super friendly and chill.
10 out of 10 would go again.

This place had above average service and ambiance for a Japanese restaurant. The takoyaki, karaage, sushi rolls and ramen were all good, although nothing was exceptional. For a small place like Waco, I had no complains. Due to a lack of good restaurants around the area, this might be one of the few restaurants that I would visit again.

Our waitress was so attentive and made sure if we needed anything. I had a mushroom allergy and she made sure to inform the kitchen. My spicy ramen was delicious. It fills you up, we also recommend getting the shaggy dog sushi. Always great service whenever we dine inn.

Ok y’all…I tried this place, only because my daughter works here lol. I tried a sushi roll that’s a little out of my comfort zone and the shrimp fried rice..well my daughter also had the California roll. I have not had too many experiences with a sushi roll without rice…Cucumber Naruto, it was so good! I’m also really picky with the fried rice and it was so good as well. Of course my daughter loved the California roll and I will say I tried a piece and it was soft, flavorful and pretty darn good. My roll, although was not what I was expecting, due to my own fault was absolutely delicious and the shrimp fried rice was completely on point. Great place, my waitress was so sweet and accommodating to my refills of water, because I was soooo thirsty. I would definitely recommend this place! Sorry about the picture, I was already enjoying my food before I remembered to take it.

As someone who tried ramen in Japan, I will be a little bit mean and say that this was not good. The noodles and pork were fine, beef was not good and both of our broths were pretty bad - tasteless and watery, not creamy or rich at all. Our waitress was very nice and professional, so no complaints there. However, the kitchen took like 30min to make our ramen.

Finally had the chance to try this fantastic ramen spot I've been thinking for a while, and it did not disappoint! Had a solo meal that left me extremely satisfied. The ramen is delicious, and the sushi is incredibly fresh. Highly recommend anyone nearby or passing through to give it a try.

Food is great! Boba....not so much. I eat here often, usually one of the ramen bowls or sushi. The food has rarely been an issue. The boba tea, however, might be something that either needs better quality checks or just taken off the menu altogether. Ordered a milk tea with regular boba. It was like chewing on outdated Twizzlers. I've seen a few reviews on here where the boba is a bit off, so as a consumer, it might be best to bypass the boba altogether here.

My family loves dining in here! The sushi is a big hit, the Monster Roll being our favourite. The menu is diet-restricted friendly as well. My aunt is celiac, allergic to gluten, and has never had an issue eating here. Her favourite dish is the Firework Roll without the Ponzu Sauce. The bathrooms are generously stocked which was a surprise but a HUGE plus!! Definite recommend for families and anyone wanting a good meal.

First time dining in this establishment. My daughter has eaten here before and likes it.
I ordered the Kimchi Ramen with dumplings. It was great and flavorful. The dumplings were Pot Stickers. I don't consider those the same. The waiter was nice and helpful. My daughter, I believe, ordered Tonkotsu. I tried it, and it was good as well.
I'll definitely be going back to try other dishes.

Pros: food was super great, one of the better ramen houses I’ve been to based on taste. reasonable pricing. Bathroom was the most generously well stocked I’ve ever seen in my life! Wow
Cons: staff very much needs training on dietary restrictions/allergens. My 2 year old daughter can’t have dairy. We came to an Asian restaurant because they usually have fewer dairy ingredients than other restaurants. I asked about each menu item to verify if they had dairy (fried rice usually doesn’t but I always ask) and our server said “yes, it does not have butter, just oyster sauce.” I ordered that for her. After we had our food for 15 minutes, my daughter started asking to try our ramens. I spoke to two more different employees to ask about our ramens, and both of them started saying the same thing “oh I don’t *think* the broth has dairy.” I had to explain to them what should have been already known — I need to be 100% sure, it’s not a matter of “it’s probably ok”, I need to know if the allergen is there or not. I appreciate that one of the two went in the back and completely confirmed for me. About 5 mins later, our original server came back and said “I’m so sorry, the fried rice did have butter. I’m so sorry. Has she been eating it?” Yeah, she had been eating it for about 15 mins because the waitress had already told us that it did *not* have butter. She had also gone off of what she had guessed, instead of confirming.
Because of this mistake, I am dealing with a sick 2 year old. There was nothing we could do at this point. The cherry on the top perhaps was that the employees didn’t even offer to comp the fried rice that my daughter now couldn’t eat, or anything similar.
I was shocked that that many employees thought it was ok to just guess on ingredients instead of really confirming, and we were the ones to pay the price.
Other con was that the bathroom floors were quite grimy and didn’t seem like they ever got mopped.

I love the food but the service is not great at all. The only tip options on their payment system are 20%, 25%, and 28%, and with the server staring down at you while you pay, it’s a little difficult to choose the “other” option to give the server the tip they actually deserve. Definitely a disappointing experience at one of my favorite spots in Waco!
Visited 4 months ago
The ramen was very good. But they had the audacity to choose how much tip you ought to pay. It’s subtle blackmailing. It’s just rude. I never paid so much tip in my whole life. 25% extra for just delivering food to your table? Ughhh

This place is amazing. When we went, it was busy, and the only table left open was a smaller one. It was just my husband, 1.5 years old and me, so we didn't think this would be much of an issue. After 10 minutes of struggling with our toddler who was having a small tantrum because we weren't letting the little one grab everything, we asked for our check to leave, figuring that it would just be better to go. Before we got our check, we were helped by another server who moved us to a bigger table where we could set up a movie for the little one, and have everything on the table out of thier reach. The owner and the waitress helped us out and told us not to worry about the fussing and everything else because they understood and would rather see us get to enjoy our meal. If we didn't already love the food there, we would have definitely become a customer for life just for the quality of service and understanding alone. But the food tastes amazing, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is nice. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wants quality (imo) Ramen.

While it might be a bit over stimulating for people with sensory issues, I HIGHLY recommend this place. Some of the friendliest staff I've ever met, and who speak well of the owner: they were funny, alert, and helpful.
Atmosphere was good, the place was clean, the tables shone, and the decor was really fun. Idk about the restroom for assigned males, but the one for afabs was really well stocked, and had a display between the sinks which had everything from sanitary products to makeup remover and hand lotion. Such a relief.
As For The Food:
This was probably my favorite food I've had in 2024. The jalapeno poppers were so good that I almost ordered more instead of getting an entree. I can't recommend them highly enough if you are able to eat fried foods. The sushi itself was as good as my previous favorite sushi place, and it didnt leave me feeling any discomfort or nausea which the other sushi place often had. I got the firework roll, and while the toppings might bother people with a sensitivity for mixed textures, I did not have any such issue and I LOVED it. It was a pretty big portion as was the ramen, so I unfortunately couldnt fit both, but the ramen looked stupendous, smelled amazing, and when my friend shared a sip of their broth with me it proved to be rich, and flavorful. For dinner my friend and I split a tray of mochi (they are frozen, and come in a set of three, we picked mango, strawberry, and matcha) and a hokkaido boba tea. Again I wish I could have tried more things but the food was really filling, and I would have probably burst. My sister had been craving their tempura fried cheesecake ever since she first tried it a year and a half ago, so she ordered that and even with a year and a half of buildup she was not disappointed.
In conclusion, as a native Texan, I cant speak to the authenticity of the venue or the food, but I can tell you that the people were lovely, the food was Amazing (Those Poppers Tho!), and the venue was so enjoyable that we loitered there far longer than was kind. My sister is on the autism spectrum and it didnt give her any problems, she just carefully chose cooked sushi for textural reasons. The staff were marvelous and I hope to go back to Waco soon so that I can eat there again.

I haven’t gotten to visit this place in person (yet!!) but have ordered it through uber eats many times. This restaurant has the BEST SUSHI in Waco !!! I love you so much Hokkaido thank you for existing. I was terrified after moving to such a small town from a big city I would never be able to eat good sushi again, thankfully this place is always a uber eats order away. Yall saved me 🥹💚

I am not one to leave any kind of review of a restaurant, but this is getting ridiculous. This place used to be great, but the quality is on a downward spiral. All of the food seems to be pre-made and then reheated poorly. If you want a microwaved meal, your local grocery store has much better options. The noodles are undercooked, the broth is bland, the eggs are cold, the meat is not fresh, and the other toppings add nothing to the experience. And after this absolute disappointment, the server gets me checked out, and 25% tip is auto-selected. 15-18% aren’t even options on the screen. $50 for 2 people for food they can’t even bother to put on a stovetop before they serve it. Don’t waste your money.

I travel to Waco from Houston often and craved Ramen. To be honest I tried a couple places in Waco and was not blown away.
Food: Awesome. broth was not bland. I always get the hottest seasoning. I have been twice so far and got the spicy chicken and the garlic Tonkontsu with chicken.
Service: Staff is very attentive and checked in on Me multiple times during my visit.
Atmosphere: Very chill. College kids from Baylor are chill.

Food was good. Service was fast. What would have made a 5 star:
- do not interrupt a table conversation.
- wait for a customer to ask for the bill unless you need the table for someone else.
- allow customer to review the bill without rushing them.

Came in for a late lunch/early dinner before Baylor football game. Sit down restaurant with quick service. Restaurant is small but open space and clean. Some chairs aren’t the most comfortable. Ordered spicy garlic edamame, crab rangoons, spicy ramen, and a couple orders of nigiri. Edamame was probably my least favorite.. needed salt or seasoning - would have been fine to order regular edamame for $2 less. Overall everything was good.. service, quality of food, menu options. We will be back!

If you ever want to order DoorDash please know that it’s going to take double the time to get to you. I’ve ordered 3 times in the past month and each time my food takes an additional 20 minutes and I get at least 2 dashers because this store doesn’t start preparing the food until the dasher arrives because they’re “understaffed”. If they’re understaffed they need to hire additional workers then. Or better yet prepare the food for doordash first instead of the people sitting because they’re going to have to wait either way. The food is fine but the service is horrible. I tipped my previous dasher an extra $15 because they waited 20 minutes for my order. The wait time is incredibly inconsiderate and inconvenient to not only the customers but the dashers because they’re LOSING money waiting for you to fulfill orders. Do better but I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on

boba here is hard and feel undercooked/didn’t warm up. the hokkaido milk tea was sweeter than i like but still alright. the kumquat and lemon tea was good. just not the boba. the server wasn’t that friendly in the beginning but he was attentive in the end, he didn’t ask about my drink so i didn’t bother to say anything.
appetizers we ordered karaage and fried calamari. karaage coating was super thick. fried calamari was crispy, they both had the same (not interesting) dipping sauce.
beef ramen isn’t as popular as chicken or/and pork in general. the beef ramen here is good, spicy and oily in a good way. they give one bone in ribs and 2 slices of brisket. plenty of noodles.
shio ramen was also ok, not too salty, they grilled/seared both side of char siu and the slice is thicker than average. also plenty of veggies (bok choy, bean sprouts, menma, green onion)
they also have flavored sake (bottled in CA), like dessert drink and some Japanese beer.
overall i think this is a better place than the former Pei Wei in the same location. parking is easy to find (better than downtown).

A few great things to share! First, our server was incredible and I wish I remember his name (we came on April 27th around 630pm). I visited with my parents, one of which is Trans and our server gendered her correctly right off the bat and made all of us feel welcome and comfortable. I wish it wasn't such a big deal to receive common human courtesy but unfortunately with the world we live in, it's behavior that deserves to be recognized because it doesn't happen often enough. Not only that, but he was amazing to my 3yo daughter. He gave her the same attention he gave to us and was very sweet to her and had her smiling every time he came by to check on us. They also brought her food out very quickly, before ours came out, and as most parents know, that's a life saver!! On top of all this, the food was incredible. I live in Temple and it's very hard to find good sushi near us, so I will definitely be traveling to this location in Waco from not on. Also, we were a group of 5 and we each ordered 2 rolls and the staff handled it effortlessly. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted extremely fresh. And lastly, the women's bathroom is every girl's dream lol they have SO much stuff in there for us to use and freshen up with. Better than a fancy hotel 😂 love love love this place and will be coming back.

I gave a 3 because my roll was not served until my husband's food was almost done. I overheard the sushi chef and the waitress. The chef was confused on how to make it. Instead of just asking if I wanted another kind I had to wait a long time as I overheard the confusion. Finally my roll was served but it did not look anything as described and huge bonita flakes on them and the roll seemed wrong. When. I returned it because I wouldn't have chose it if it was described as such. The waitress was very kind and took care of us. She also told us the menu is often wrong and sometimes the chef does what they want. I would say a menu revamp would be in order if this is true. The other food served was good and the atmosphere was nice too. Overall for me it was a bad experience just because of how wrong and long it too for my food to come out. My husband's was fine.

Food I've tried has been tasty. Would like to see more sushi options, even if only as rotating specials.

Great service. Friendly staff, I definitely recommend making a reservation, place was very busy. The food was perfect. The ramen was amazing and a great portion size. Keep in mind everything comes out at different times if didn’t know. Will definitely come back.

Ella the hostess is so friendly, accommodating and attentive! She was knowledgeable and helpful while I was trying to place my to go order. She made sure everything was exactly as I ordered and gave some of the best customer service I have experienced. The food was great. I highly recommend going here for good ramen.

Honestly I really wanted to like it but there were a lot of things about the food that just plain wasn't that great. My ramen (garlic tonkotsu ramen) was 4/10 didn't care for the broth. And parts of the ramen where cold (bamboo shoots, and the eggs) which really threw off the whole vibe of the dish from the start, I also got the Hokkaido boba and the boba wasn't sweet and was just very rubbery. My server was amazing
her name was Samantha and I was seated quickly so the service is great I just can't justify spending 50$ on food I didn't really enjoy.

Strike 1 1/2 out of the 2 visits for us. The food is barely mediocre at best. The initial entrance we were greeted quickly. Our first visit server was good, although they didn't have sushi. The second visit, today, was disappointing for the sushi we did get. However the octopus meatballs were really interesting and delightful, I can't get pass the disappointing sushi. The firework roll is not recommended. It was very loosely made, soaking in ponzi sauce causing it to fall apart quicker and had way too much seaweed. Thankfully we didn't end up paying full price for the sushi that wasn't worth it.
Will eventually give 1 more attempt in the future. Maybe.

My husband and I went out for dinner and ordered the chicken dumplings and two special sushi rolls. It was $48 for both of us. It’s a former pei Wei so there were lots of little tables. The sushi was excellent, highly recommend the rainbow roll and firecracker roll.

Subpar sushi.

The best sushi I've ever had!! We had the Monster roll, the shaggy dog and the Alaska roll, it was all so good! My reason for the 3 stars on food is because of the soy based broth for the veggie ramen was pretty bland, I'm not sure why they don't just use vegetable broth. And the crab ragoons were disappointing, there's hardly any cream cheese in them and I didn't see or taste any crab.

Got take out. Food tasted great, but they messed up one of our orders. Ordered two chicken karaage but only received one and gyoza we didn't order.
Edit: Owner reached out. I adjusted the review based on the food. Mistakes happen. I come here nearly every other week and I'd like to keep going here. No need to correct the mistake for me, but thanks for being receptive.

The Ramen is decent, with a better base it could be great. Sushi is the best in Waco, but that's not a high bar. Apps are hit or miss.

Went for lunch. I ordered the house fried rice and monster roll. Husband ordered calamari and a noodle bowl. Everything was really good.
Could only eat half the rice and 2 sushi pieces. Husband left a lot of food as well. We were full and had plenty for later.

Hokkaido is, and I am not exaggerating, my favorite restaurant on the planet. It is a pocket of pure joy in the midst of Waco, Texas. Not to be dramatic, but I have dreamt of Hokkaido's crab rangoons and wept when I have gone too long without having them. Hokkaido is also home to some of the best boba and THE best sushi in town. This restaurant always has the best service, atmosphere, and food. Plus, the bathrooms are really nice. My only complaint is that I never have leftovers. Because that food is just too dang good. I finish it all in one sitting, and I always leave feeling full. I am honestly thinking about asking the owners of Hokkaido if I can get married at their establishment one day (if that doesn't work, I'll at least ask them to cater). I love you Hokkaido. You make college in Waco worthwhile.

Delicious sushi!!! It's a little expensive but sushi always pricey. I usually get a bowl of ramen and a couple orders or sushi and share between two people. The wait staff is really nice and even brought us an extra bowl and plate so we could share easier, without me even asking, just because they heard we would share. The staff is super thoughtful and very helpful with understanding the menu.

Huge disappointment. Start off with the chicken karaage, it’s not homemade and you can tell they order it from food company and put it in the fryer, too much breading and taste burnt. I also got spicy beef ramen, the beef back rib was VERY chewy, not tender at all! The meat does not fall off the bone as they advertised. Broth was lukewarm, not hot

First time eating here, on a recommendation and I loved it. Everything felt authentic and no complaints regarding my appetizers or meal. Had the house specialty and my waiter was outstanding. Avery was his name, he was very helpful and honest with the menu. Very attentive as well. I will be sure to return soon👍

Amazing ramen. I got the spicy ramen with pork belly. My only complaint is that I wish the egg were a little less cooked. But that’s not enough to knock it from a 5. Also, the sushi is lights out. Wife and I split a Texas roll and it was better than my favorite Waco sushi place (Wako Roll). Gave it a 3 star on the atmosphere because it is the same layout as it was when it was pei wei. I get it. It was cheaper not the change the build out but it reminds me of pei wei and I didn’t like that place.

Ordered online. When I went to pick it up, I was asked my name. There clearly was only one take out order there. I gave the idiot my name. Then she said that she needed to see a confirmation email. They don’t send send emails!!!!! I walked back to my car and go my cell phone to show her the TEXT that they sent in confirmation. I asked “ why did you ask my name if you needed to see an EMAIL???” She replied “I don’t know sir, I’m just supposed to.”
She hands me the only take out bag which says my name in big bold letters!!!
D
None of this matters!!! The sushi stunk like shnike! I know the smell of rotting fish, and I’m here to tell you, THIS WAS ROTTING FISH”

Ramen was good.
Sushi was terrible. Not as described.
Bubble tea was okay. The other places in town have a much larger assortment to choose from.
Service was good.

Admittedly, I am somewhat of a novice when it comes to the world of ramen however, this restaurant single handily launched my love for ramen and continues to both literally and metaphorically fuel my passion. I never knew that ramen could be so bold and flavorful until I tried Hokkaido. The restaurant’s atmosphere is very nice and every time I have visited, the service has been more than exceptional. Though the prices are somewhat steep, it is definitely worth it.

The ramen here is pretty tasty, but i ordered the "fire" seasoning, yet the seasoning was mild at best.
The staff was friendly overall, but when I asked, "Do you have a minute?" It was responded with, "What do YOU want?" (Yes, she was joking, but you can imagine how discouraging this would be to most customers)
