Sushi Rebel located in Springwoods Village is a modern sushi restaurant serving premier sushi.
We come here often because it’s right by our office. The sushi here is fantastic. The service can be a bit slow but is always friendly. The Kobe cubes are a MUST TRY! We get them every time because they are amazingly delicious! My favorite roll is the Optimus roll. Everything here has been great. The decor is modern, chic, clean and bright. I never get tired of coming here.

The interior has a nice ambiance but wouldn't pick this spot if looking for patio dining as the outdoor tables/chairs didn't look appealing at all. Fortunately their food was good as the service wasn't great for the price point. Took awhile to get first contact which wasn't very friendly as she seemed bothered to be there. We had to ask for water refills and again seemed like putting her out even though she hollered to someone else to do it. Now the food part. The Kobe cubes were really good and would recommend but avoid the kimchi brussel sprouts as they were mushy and not great flavor. The toro roll was amazing and would definitely recommend along with the foie gras nigiri.

I was here one of weekday lunch. The food and atmostphere is cozy and nice. I ordered chef recommend sushi/nigiri and it comes with wasabi and ginge. It was tasty. I also love the salad includes in the set. Price is reasonable. It is not completely authentic japanese and more to american style but fish is fresh and overall made me good lunch.

It was a pleasure dinner experience here at the Sushi Rebel. Their menu quite good, tons of options for raw an cooked sushis, rolls, sashimis, Nigiris, and soups! The also have a limited but good enough happy hour menu which includes rolls mostly and some starters. The environment is quite beautiful and sits right in the heart of the spring city center. We tried their Tiger Eye, Spicy Salmon, and Shaggy Dog rolls. be aware of the spicy edamame though! it was a challenge to get through that one lol

Its one of my fiancees go to sushi places, wich i have never been to. We visited this restaurant recently. While the food was decent with a rating of 3/5, the interior design caught my eye with its pleasing aesthetics. The best dish there was the Kobe cubes, those were amazing. Unfortunately, the customer service left much to be desired, server was rude and unprofessional. Sadly my personal experience was very poor and I'm uncertain if I'll return.

Unfortunately, I’ve finally decided to not return to this restaurant. A woman server brought the incorrect roll, to which I immediately and politely informed her of the mistake. She apologized, and within 5 minutes brought the correct order. I was charged for both items. Mistakes happen, but after reading other reviews I truly believe this is a fraudulent practice and pattern. Additionally, the service is not on par with the prices. The food is fine, but I do not enjoy being ripped off.

Been in the restaurant multiple times before and ordered chicken teriyaki, but substituted the potato salad for extra veggies. Today I called to place a to go order, and the manager told me they couldn’t substitute. I said I was happy to pay an up charge and he said no we can’t. I then said I had been in before and substituted with no issues and he said I was wrong, they can’t. The food is decent, but that interaction really turned me off. The way they are so rigid in not substituting a cold potato salad is just weird ( when mind you, I’ve had it done before in the restaurant MULTIPLE times ) . Besides what Asian restaurant serves cold potato salad!? How strange- they need to learn about customer service.

In my opinion potato salad should not be part of the Japanese eating experience; I ordered the salmon teriyaki and it was bland. The truffles tuna was okay but I’ve had better at less expensive places. The service was not on par with the ambiance and the price $$$. Lastly, the music was too loud, almost concert like. It wasn’t a good experience and I will not be back or recommend this place even though my office is less than 100 yards away.

5 pieces of sushi for $17. I was so disappointed I wanted to cry. Nothing like the disappointment of a pregnant lady craving sushi. It was good, but I give it one star because 5 little rolls for $17 is not worth it. 😭 I don’t know why they added a tip either since my husband was the one to come pick up and we did not dine in.

We walked in, and there were 3 hosts staring at us. When the bartender greeted us from thirteen feet away, we then smiled at her and looked at the hosts and said hello, how are you. They then asked us if we had reservations, this was 5:20 PM. ( I know it's Valentine's Day, but it's still early) We said no, looking around at the four people in the restaurant at the time. They stumbled around like it was going to be a problem to seat the two of us for an early dinner.
At first impression I thought wow, this place is nice. You gotta have reservations, but after they handed us our dirty menus and gave my partner her drink and a gnat landed on it, I quickly realized it was not a nice place. I thought Wow couldn't afford pesticides and then saw the prices on the menu. We ordered appetizers, some sashimi, and handrolls. The appetizers and shimi came out at the same time, and the hand rolls came out twenty minutes later. I was extremely saddened when I got my sashimi. The portion was very small for $15. But when the hand rolls came out that were $5.50, they had the exact same portion of fish in them as the sashimi. I was extremely upset but ordered another hand roll anyway. After 30 minutes of waiting, I decided to cancel the one hand roll order and get my check and leave. It was a very, very awful experience. The only thing we had to go on for this place was our sweet waitress. Thankfully, she was very good at her job.

Let me start out that I always tip 20% even when the service is not the best. The service I experienced was good and the server would have gotten 20%. I’ve been here several times and I recently went with my family of 5 as my son was in town from college. When I got the bill I noticed that the gratuity of 20% had already been added due to having a large party. I was not informed ahead of time that 5 constitutes a large party and have never been charged a large party gratuity when dining with just 5 people. I asked the server about it and told her not to feel bad because I was going to tip her 20% anyway. She said that management makes her do that for parties of 5 or more. To me, I think the whole idea of tipping is stupid, I think the restaurants should just increase their wages to a reasonable wage and just raise the prices accordingly. However, if the restaurants want customers to decide a server’s worth, then allow us to do it. To be fair, I really enjoy the food at this restaurant and my family loves it. It is some of the best sushi I have had in Texas. However, I do feel that the menu is very limited when it comes to raw sushi. It seems to me that the majority of the sushi items has tempura on it. If you enjoy good food, I highly recommend this restaurant, but watch your bill closely so you don’t pay the tip twice.

The sushi was great and the drinks were awesome too.
I wouldn't be able to tell you which rolls we had since we had so many lol, but I recommend the "Beef Burger" thing - it was a small beef cube on a bed of fried rice with a sunny side up quail egg on top. SO GOOD..

It was like finding a hidden gem! We had seen this place since it opened but didn’t get around to trying it until today. The service was amazing, it was sad to see that we were the only people sitting for lunch but we figured it was because of July 4th. The miso soup was one of the best ones I’ve had in the area! The dragon roll was delicious and one of my favorite sushi rolls I’ve had in Texas! The salmon plate was also really tasty (I tried some that my dad got). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that likes sushi

Everything was consistent but none of the rolls really stood as the 'best one'. I will definitely return for lunch with clients

I recently dined at Sushi Rebel, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Despite the restaurant's visually appealing ambiance, the overall poor customer service overshadowed any positive aspects.
First and foremost, the server lacked a sense of urgency throughout my visit. It took an unacceptable amount of time to receive both my to-go box and the check. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but a 20-minute wait for these basic items is excessive.
Furthermore, the server seemed inattentive and disinterested in providing a satisfactory dining experience. They rarely checked in on our table, which left us feeling neglected and unimportant as customers.
In terms of the food, it was disappointingly average. There was nothing special or memorable about the dishes I ordered. Considering the abundance of sushi restaurants in the area, I expected a more remarkable culinary experience.
One issue that particularly bothered me was the discrepancy in the bill. As a habit, I always double-check my bill, and this time was no exception. To my surprise, there was an item on the bill that we had not ordered. It raises concerns about their attention to detail and accuracy in billing. It is essential for customers to carefully review their bills to avoid any unnecessary charges.
Even the soda I ordered had an unpleasant taste, which further added to my overall dissatisfaction with Sushi Rebel.
Regrettably, the only positive aspect of my visit was the restaurant's nice ambiance. However, when customer service is lacking to this extent, it's difficult to overlook the other disappointments.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Sushi Rebel to others. The poor customer service, lack of urgency, average food quality, and billing issues make it challenging to have a satisfying dining experience. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and makes necessary improvements to enhance the overall customer experience.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The manager at this location is horrible. The food did not taste fresh at all. This place is literally stealing peoples money with the non substitution/ non refund system they have in place. Again, which isn’t written anywhere in the restaurant or menu. I would advise you to think twice before visiting this place. Horrible experience.

Was so disappointed, they said they are associated with Uptown sushi in the galleria, and this place being so close to home I was so excited to try. Everything was extremely salty, fish did not taste fresh, service was so slow and there was hardly anyone there. Then on top of it, the manager came over and we told him our feedback and all he said was I’ll take that into advisement, then I asked again if they were truly associated with uptown sushi bc the quality was just so off, and his response was, “oh really? I use to work in the kitchen there” I didn’t even ask to speak to a manger, Marteen, came over on his own and did nothing to rectify the situation. On top of it, I was like I’ve never had spicy ponzu be an extra charge and it was a HUGE bowl usually its a small side, and i told him I would have appreciated the waitress telling us how large it was given it was an extra charge and we asked for 2.. it was enough for 8 people, not even exaggerating, it was brought out in a rice bowl, filled almost to the rim. His response was yeah anything but soy sauce and low sodium soy sauce is extra charge. It was just the strangest encounter I’ve ever had. Will not be returning, such a bummer because I love the springwoods village area.

They are extremely understaffed. Took at leas 20 mins to get our food and there were only 3 other small groups in the restaurant when we came in (a party of 2). As other comments mentioned they have the bartender waitressing and he is extremely slow at taking your order and getting your food out. They had to have some of the waitresses doing clean up bc they don’t have bus boys. Redeeming qualities include the ambiance and closeness of the place. The food was (as the kids say) mid. Nothing spectacular.

We loved the vibe and food on our first visit. Great cocktails. Also offered a host of vegetarian dishes and very fresh sushi. Service was slow - after 40 minutes I went to find someone to take our food order (hoping this was an anomaly). However, we will return as we would love to see them thrive.

Honestly sad. I live between here and rock and roll (also bad). This place is the better of the two for sure but instead of spending money on expensive bottles of alcohol maybe invest in the food quality. This place has potential with its area and ambiance but falls flat in regards to the quality of fish and the sushi rice tastes a tad old or stale. Definitely lacking in flavor or freshness. For the price save your money and get H-E-B sushi. Unfortunately the best sushi since moving to this area.

We went today and did not have great service. We also waited for my gf’s roll for quite some time and it never came out. All my food came out and hers was nowhere to be found. The waitress did not even explain the situation to us at all until the end when we questioned where her food was. Very disappointed, we had to take the sushi to go and it was not even put in the container properly, it was on its side and thrown together hastily . Very sad

My wife and I have been to Sushi Rebel many times. The sushi is amazing and on par with some of the heavy hitters in the city. The drinks are good and fairly priced and even though the food is expensive, you get what you pay for. If I could improve anything it’s the servers seem young and poorly trained.

Upon entering the restaurant my husband and I were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. The ambiance and decor is modern and sophisticated. Our waiter was nice, and someone was always coming by to refresh the water that they had place down at the tables before the waiter arrived. There was a great selection of food and sushi, and they even offer a vegetarian page of options. My husband and I each ordered our own sushi rolls (Shaggy Dog and Shrimp Tempura roll) and shared some chicken fried rice. Both sushi rolls that we ordered were delicious, although a tad less thick then every other sushi place we've ever been to. The chicken in the chicken fried rice was somewhat dry, and we needed to use soy sauce to give the dish a bit more flavor, but aside from that it was good. Prices are very reasonable and it's in a great location.

My first time here. I sat at the bar. I felt the lemon drop martini was a bit cha-ching at $14. There was a sweet, sweet young waiter who kept me company as he waited for his drinks. Here is a pic of the Lickety Split. I was honestly hoping at $18 (the most expensive) and HIGHLY recommended from staff that it would be bigger. I remember when sushi pieces used to be so much bigger. Is it the times we are living in? I've had bigger sushi at HEB for way way less. I was still hungry so I also ordered 4 pieces of nigiri. Again, a bit on the small side. I'm going to chalk it up to supply chain issues and the times we are living in.

Three of us had reservations for 730 on Saturday night. They were not busy and yet we sat for almost 30 minutes without being acknowledged or having a drink order taken. This is my first time walking out of a restaurant. Manager was standing looking out and there appeared to be plenty of employees to handle the slow Saturday night. We went to Bloofin and had a wonderful experience. Won't be giving Sushi Rebel another chance.

Place could have potential if it was not for the snobby managers. Explains why this place is always empty. Geez.

Awesome food. Everything we had (various appetizers and rolls) was simply very good. Go for the dragon roll! It simply is divine.

Good sushi! Tastes very fresh and the service is great. My only grievances are the music can get overbearing at times and the water is not that good. Otherwise, this is a great spot to enjoy delicious sushi, cooked or raw.

Entered at 8:50pm and the place was half empty. Got seated by the kitchen on a table in the middle of the floor ON VALENTINES DAY! with my husband that looked like we were on stage for everyone to see. Asked to be seated somewhere else, hostess asked if I had reservations. Restaurant closes at 9:30pm and it was HALF EMPTY! Walked out right away

This sushi restaurant is a great addition to City Place. The interior is decorated beautifully and has a great atmosphere. The staff are quick and attentive. The sushi was delicious, the best I’ve had in the Spring area.

This sushi is straight FIREEEE!! We love going here weekly since they opened. Their appetizers, rolls, and drinks are delicious. Our faves are Optimus, Godzilla and Millenial. You have to try the kobe hot rock that you cook yourself at the table and the kimchi brussel sprouts blew us away! The l&j loya with the Parmesan and jalapeño is so unexpectedly delicious too. You can’t make a wrong move here and the restaurant is perfectly styled too, makes you feel like you’re downtown.

I was at City Place for work, and I'm a fan of Uptown Sushi so I stopped in - the food was great, I highly recommend the yellowtail with the shaved Parmesan, it's an unlikely pairing, but wow. If you sit at the raw bar you can see the sushi chefs slicing the fish so you know it's fresh.

Sushi Rebel in City Place is hands down the best sushi spot in North Houston. Very similar menu to sister restaurant Uptown Sushi inside the loop. Kobe cubes are unbelievable, fantastic sushi selection and some really great craft cocktails. City Place is an incredible atmosphere, especially during the holidays with all of the Christmas lights.

I’m writing this review with great sadness because I was so excited about the opening of Sushi Rebel in Springwoods Plaza. After an exciting opening and very high hopes as a sushi lover, I began to sadly realize the atmosphere within Sushi Rebel (fostered by the ownership) is not interested in catering to African American individuals who love sushi but, rather those who have a perceived level of importance and respectability to the owners of the restaurant (e.g., non-black patrons). Like many new restaurants, everyone experiences growing pains, however; the growth that needs to be fostered is the learning, understanding and undoing of unconscious bias.
When I arrived at Sushi rebel’s sushi bar, the waitress in my section passed me multiple times, however; she did not come over to take my order for the duration of my meal. At first I thought this was an oversight, but when she began to take the order of the non-black couples seated to my right and left – I realized that this was either intentional disdain or unintentional absent-mindedness (the former proved to be true).
After an extended period disregard, the sushi chefs (who I am immensely grateful for) noticed the disregard of said waitress and the owner and began to take my order and ultimately served me for the duration of the evening (even though this was not their responsibility).
I received my food and beverages sporadically while I noticed those around me receiving expedited service (with the assistance of the owner and said waitress). Even though there was a waitress, 2 owners present and a manager on staff- they proceeded to assist, cater, and deliver excellent service to everyone-with exception to myself. The manager personally catered to: large parties, recognizable corporate personnel, individuals wanting pictures as clout and most importantly- patrons who were not African American.
As the manager made his way to various tables asking them about the level of service with great care and concern (as well as delivering food) he passed by me multiple times without saying a word. The two times he and I had an interaction was when he first silently delivered my soft drink (at the behest of the sushi chefs and without the same level conversation he so easily engaged in with others) and second at the end of my meal.
One of the hostesses brought my bill over and explained that they removed the edamame since they thought I never received it (the edamame was the first thing that I received). I began to explain to the hostess (and the owner as he recently walked up) that I received all of my food and that was not the issue – the issue was the inconsistent service that was being given to me compared to other patrons. My concerns fell on deaf ears- disappointingly, but far from surprised.
After our conversation ended, the owner turned around to the table behind me and began explaining to them about service delays, growing pains and apologetically making sure that they were OK – all while my experience was not given the same level of respect and acknowledgment.
While there are great individuals who work at that location sadly, the failure starts at the top. Organizations cannot take flight and be successful long-term if the foundation is rotten. My suggestions are as follows:
1. Do not judge a book by its cover. In this Covid environment, many individuals may dress casually but have the same (if not higher) corporate positions as those who you cater to. Remedy your preconceived low expectations.
2. Treat people how you would want to be treated. Even though this is self-explanatory, the unconscious bias training will definitely enhance this area of your understanding.
3. Invest in unconscious bias training. As owners, operators and creative directors of other Bayou city sushi restaurants- it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle of restaurant management, however; as your businesses continue to grow, so does your requisite outlook and understanding about your patrons.
Do Better… and Best of Luck!

This place is so delicious! We’ve tried the Kobe cubes, avocado bite and the lobster/shrimp rolls! All exceptional! Definitely an upscale sushi experience worth a try if you like sushi! Very fresh and exceptional flavor combos!

We went to this restaurant for the first time three days after it opened. We love the way it looks and the food is delicious. We’ve been eating there about twice a week and have ordered delivery twice. They recently added four or five tables for outside seating. We were excited. However, when we wanted to eat outside again, last Wednesday, they asked for a credit card up front, which they kept throughout the meal, until we were ready to pay. We were offended and upset, particularly, since most of their staff, including the chef, know us by now. They insisted this was their new policy.
We’ve eaten at restaurants all over Houston and surrounding areas, in many different cities and countries, and no one ever has asked to retain our credit card up front. We complained to the manager. Then my sushi came out first and my husband’s almost 15 minutes later with the appetizer. We’re disappointed and felt humiliated. Needless to say, we will not eat there again. There are quite a number of equally good Sushi places around, who would not treat their customers with such disrespect.

This was a beautiful restaurant with great decor and lighting. I would however give it 3.5 stars, but I am giving it the benefit of the doubt with 4 for being pretty new. The positive: the overall flavor, dish creativity and freshness of ingredients was very good. My wife and I enjoyed everything we ordered and the plating was very appetizing. The negative: The food was very slow, it took 45 minutes for our first appetizer. There were only 2 servers working the whole floor and bar, so they weren't very attentive to the tables. Drinks in martini glasses or coups are not double strained, so they have tiny ice throughout which is not ideal. We were not given side plates with our appetizer. There was only 1 sushi chef, and at least 3 kitchen staff that we counted. The staff should be more evenly split in a sushi restaurant or cross trained so they can help where the tickets are printing. This place has great potential. But they currently lack the close management and attention to detail required to take it to the next level.

I’m still laughing. I asked for 4 menu items and they only had 1. A sushi restaurant with no tuna on a Saturday afternoon. The service wasn’t on par either. We had to ask for soy sauce twice and we weren’t offered alternatives or presented with a menu to pick some different dishes for the unavailable fish. No apologies either. The apps were good and the jalapeño dipping sauce with the lobster app was the highlight but I will stick to Fukuda.
