Another great sushi place! Thoroughly enjoyed the sushi at this hidden restaurant in Alamo Ranch. The shrimp balls, Alaskan roll, miso soup, and other dishes we tried were prepared with expertise to match our tastes! Must try!

We had ramen, which was decent. However, the chicken fried rice and chicken katsu were a disaster. As you can see, this brown sad looking bowl is supposed to be fried rice. It tasted like absolutely nothing with a tsp of soy sauce added. No other flavor than rice and soy sauce. My husband had the chicken katsu and couldn't even finish it. He said meat was bland, dry, and just overall no flavor. That's the second time we didnt like the food. We gave it another try today because everyone can have a bad day, but there was at least 6 months between today and last time we had it. Well, we won't come back...

This place used to be a great restaurant but the service is terrible. On two separate occasions, no one was at the front to receive customers and, each time, we stood standing there for 10 minutes. Excessive wait time to order, drinks with no ice, no refills, we had to find our own silverware, and no follow up. The food is good, so I hope the service improves.

We were craving Sushi and we’re glad we made a stop at Kumori. To kick things off, our server was very attentive and courteous. My mother-in-law, my wife and I weren’t terribly hungry just craving sushi. We were promptly taken drink order and served the house miso soup, which was delightful. We then enjoyed the earth roll as well as the firecracker roll, and let me tell you these were amazing. Personal favorite was the firecracker however my wife would vote the earth roll as hers. Anyway, the entire experience was pleasant and now we have found a great spot to satisfy our craving. Can’t wait to try their Ramen.

Just really bad sushi and flavorless appetizers. The server didn't even know the menu, and she told us she was gonna have the bartender make our drinks cause she didn't want to. We didn't even bother getting entrées. It's pretty clear the front and back of house could care less.

If all you eat is rolls, then you'd probably like it. The fish wasn't fresh and overpriced. My husband got the katsu curry. It was basically soup with soggy pork katsu and rice goulash. I got the salmon poke bowl. The only way I could stomach the salmon was with the sauce. We didn't finish our food.

Currently sitting in the restaurant writing this review. I wish I had read the reviews first. This is hands down the worst Japanese food I have had in my life. It had absolutely no flavor. I ordered the chicken teppanyaki and my husband ordered the chicken katsudon. As others have said the katsudon was a bowl of rice with chicken nuggets and the most flavorless yet somehow also most disgusting gravy I’ve ever had the displeasure of tasting. My food was also extremely bland and they served my teppanyaki sauce on the side and I kid you not it was the consistency of jello. Please save yourself and eat somewhere else. Only positive I will add is that our waitress was very nice and attentive.

Nice atmosphere, bad food. The menu is badly written and doesn’t explain the items. I ordered the tonkatsu and it says it’s a cutlet but I got bite size chicken nuggets over rice in a bowl? My sister got yakisoba and got noodles with zero seasoning. My mom got sushi and didn’t know it came with raw fish since the menu didn’t specify. Never coming back. I’d rather go to sushi zushi~

This was my first time coming here and my husband's second, and the food was great! We started our with spicy salmon crispy rice and edamame, both which were a great appetizer, and then I had the Kalypso roll and my husband had the Kumori special roll. with a side of the chicken fried rice. Both were great! For dessert we had the strawberry and mango mochi and it was all beautifully presented. Our waiter explained that he was new but he was absolutely amazing, checking up on us and refilling our drinks without us needing to ask, we left him an extra tip at the end of the meal. Will definitely be going back!

A friend of mine and I stopped in because we’d been craving some sushi. What a cute little place! The atmosphere was very chill and calming.
We began with the Miso Soup (which was Divine), and decided to go with Gyoza as our appetizer. It was definitely a great choice! I loved how crisp they were on the outside. So yummy!
I then ordered the Volcano Roll, as well as one of their lunchtime specials - The Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. Both were PHENOMENAL. The Volcano Toll had the perfect amount of spice…& I loved the crawfish and sauce in the middle!
The winner of this meal though was the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. I cannot WAIT to have this dish again! It was some of the most tender, flavorful teriyaki chicken I’ve ever had. And the veggies were cooked PERFECTLY. This was all in a bed of steamed rice, that had mushrooms mixed all through it. Such a delicious surprise!
Our waitress wasn’t the friendliest. She seemed to be rushing us, even though there were only two or three other tables with customers at them. We didn’t let her rush us, though. We were there to enjoy our meal, and visit. The waitress was the only negative to this experience! Overall - a great pick…& I cannot wait to go back!🩵

The place had a stench of urine when we first walked in. We had been here before a while back so just took it as must be something at the door. The food was not good. The place was dirty and dusty and the shrimp tasted old and not cooked properly on the shrimp friend rice. The waitress was great and caring but yea, I will not be returning.

Currently sitting in the restaurant, wishing I would have believe the 3.9 rating. Trust me the rating is accurate. I’m am giving two stars, one for decor and the second for our server who just started and was super nice. First, my wife wanted a tuna avocado roll, it wasn’t on the menu. No problem! typically when it’s not available, which is rare, they can accommodate and charge a comparable price of a California roll. Tuna avocado rolls at restaurants range between 7.99-10.99. The manger wanted to charge us 14.99. I told him to just cancel it and we would order something on the menu. He proceed to bargain with us once I informed him of that standard price for the roll. Making statements like, “I’ll do 12.99, I’ll do 11.99” “it’s just $2.00 dollars”. Eventually after showing him prices of tuna avocado rolls at surrounding restaurants he agreed on $9.99. The two roll I got (Fried Philly Roll and Kumori Special Roll) were not good either. We recently moved to this area and was trying something new. After this experience we will continue to take the 30 min drive to Umiya.

I ordered sushi with crab here the other day for to go and whenever u order anything for to go, they leave everything bagged up on the counter. Pretty sure with this heat and eating seafood we probably shouldn't do that, anyways as soon as I finished my roll my stomach felt so uncomfortable. Very bloated but I ignored it. Next day, I wake up with headache, chills, fever, sore throat. Tested for covid twice and it came back negative and it felt WORST Than covid!!! I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from here. Yo, the first time I went there, it was awesome. But the second time, it was just okay. The roll didn't look as good or taste as good as the first time. And the waitress didn't even try to make it right. I mean, sushi is all about the presentation, right? If it doesn't look good, I don't even want to eat it. So yeah, the second time was a major letdown, both the food and the service. The 1st and 2nd 📸 we can all see the difference

Very disappointed. Went out for a date night with my husband. Ordered our drinks and the waitress came back to take our order, I finished ordering and then she gave my husband a rude look like okay it’s your turn. I got a strawberry lemonade and didn’t like it so I asked for a water. It took almost 15 mins to get a water. My husband orders Ramen and it had no flavor to it, so we just asked for the rest of our food to go to get him something else. I got a California roll and the avocado was rock hard in it, but didn’t know till I got home. Very disappointed in the service and food.

Good atmosphere! However, the food was disappointing. I’ve had better Miso Soup so it’s hard to say that theirs is good. I ordered a sprite , and basically got carbonated water. I changed it for an actual water .
I also ordered their cheese Kushiage and they had no flavor ! Plus their ketchup was watered down !
I then tried their Salmon Poke bowl. I was disappointed again with their rice.
All in all, I won’t be coming back . I suggest you try another sushi place.

Sushi here is great, but the service was actually terrible. You could get better service at a McDonalds, we waited over 20mins just to get water, the sushi came out but we had no utensils, my daughter who’s only 5 wasn’t given a kids menu and charged as an adult.

Manager took care of us on the check but the rest of the staff made it unbearable. I will definitely not be back.

Update:
We came back again tonight for my daughter’s birthday celebration and Sweepea took such good care of our big family.
We decided to get several different rolls and different dipping sauces so we could mix and match. My favorite was the crispy tuna roll with the spicy sauce.
The banana tempura we had for dessert was perfectly cooked and they even put a cute little candle in it for the birthday girl. It was so sweet.

My experience at Kimori Sushi was nothing short of fantastic! This charming sushi spot offers a cozy atmosphere paired with exceptional service, making you feel welcome the moment you step in. The sushi here is some of the freshest I've ever tasted, with each piece beautifully crafted to highlight the natural flavors of the fish. The chef's attention to detail is evident in every dish, from the perfectly seasoned rice to the delicate balance of sauces and garnishes. Highlights of my visit included the melt-in-your-mouth toro and the innovative fusion rolls that offer a delightful twist on traditional sushi. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you receive, making Kimori Sushi a must-visit for anyone craving authentic and delicious sushi. I'll definitely be returning soon and bringing friends!

I was just served one of the most pathetic examples of teppanyaki I have ever seen. I ordered a beef tenderloin teppanyaki, and the vegetables are cold and soggy compared to any of the other times I have orders from this location. Also the portions are not the same. I received anemic portions compared to previous orders. We spent over $100 for two people, and this by far was the saddest dish I've ever seen. I'd expect this kind of "teppanyaki" to be served on a plane.

Kumori is a nice place. At first glance at the sushi station, it looked impressive- everything looked fresh! The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. I ordered the Mixed Sunomono salad. The salad was exceptionally delicious and fresh! It consisted of cucumbers, crab, octopus, and shrimp. It was a good portion, too.
I also ordered the Spicy Salmon Roll. When ordering the roll, I asked about its ingredients, because I wanted to make certain it was made that way. I was assured it was. The sushi roll was not as the menu described. I am not a sushi connoisseur, which is why I depend on menu descriptions to assist me in making choices. The Spicy Roll was good; however, had it all the ingredients it promised, it would have been great! Sushi roll disappointment aside, I would definitely go back for the Sunomono salad! 😋

Thought I’d try something other than the sushi here (the sushi is ok - nothing to write home about). Seriously can’t believe they charge $16 for this. I was shocked when I got home and took it out of the bag. It almost looks like I had a bowl of rice and then just threw some chik fil a nuggets on top. Honestly that would have been better because then it wouldn’t have been so bland. The tonkatsu sauce wasn’t great either. Tasted like store bought bbq sauce. No finesse.

Waited at our table for like 10 ish minutes with no service. See the waitresses and host playing on their phone talking to each other, place was practically empty. I don't know how long they expected us to wait before taking drinks or starting us off with appetizers. Walked out and ate at the restaurant next door. Really nice restaurant with great food. We stumbled on this place by accident, and I'm glad we did. The spicy salmon tower was delicious, and the miso soup was good, especially on a cold day. Our server was attentive and friendly, and she made the most delicious cucumber and strawberry lemonade. I got the beef teppanyaki, which I do not recommend as the beef was a cheap cut, and it was tough and dry. The main course came out cold even though there were like 5 people in the restaurant, including us at 11 in the afternoon. The vegetables were the frozen Normandy blend type that you can get from the supermarket. It didn't taste anything g like it had been on a griddle or grill, just reheated leftover type of style. Blend, cold, and just meh. Could have done better for $20. I'll just stick to the sushi, but the dipping sauces were good. This will probably be our last time.

It took forever to be seated while the place was nearly empty. We weren’t given the complimentary soups and didn’t receive service for nearly 10 minutes while seated. The sushi was disgusting. Dry steak, over-seasoned sushi, and high prices dominated this meal.

Quality has dropped considerably since our last visit and neither of us had much to say besides "it's food I guess".

I got a rainbow roll and some nigiri, she got steak teppanyaki.
The roll was mostly fine although lacking the fish variation of the namesake.
The biggest problems were the steak and nigiri.

The nigiri was a massive ball of overseasoned rice with a sliver of fish on it. We nearly had to cut the nigiri in half just to eat it.

The steak was over cooked, bland, and tough. My wife didn't finish her meal.

To top off this meal, a 70$ bill for two meals, highlighted by a 6 dollar tea bag and 20 dollars for teppan-yucky steak.

Sadly this is a place we likely will not revisit

Short version: Comparable to Sushi Zushi but other establishments offer more bang for your buck.

Food was good but really over priced all around - you're paying for the atmosphere for sure. That said, I think this would be a good date spot.

Our service was a little slow (about a 15-20min wait upon ordering) for what we ordered (San Antonio Roll & Fuji/Fiji* Roll).

I usually order nigiri but decided to pass this time because, again: really over priced. Upon receiving the roll I noticed the cuts of fish were really thin so you're mostly getting rice and filling. If I didn't love maki so much, I probably wouldn't have rated as highly as I did honestly.

I’m surprised that this business has a 3.9 rating. Reading the reviews people are complaining about the servers coming up to them too much and asking if they are done with things so they can clear their plate… really? This place always has great service, great food, they’re always friendly, and they were appreciative of the business you could tell.

Solid 4 stars. Food quite good for Japanese in Texas (hard to come by lets be honest). Service was absolutely stellar, really involved and even wanted feedback on newer items and were really open to listening. We've had places ask for feedback before then be rude, they were very kind and polite when we offered mixed feedback on a new drink on the menu (it wasn't bad, we just offered some ways it could be improved). Service was 10/10. Some of the best we've had in the whole San An area tbh. The food was pretty great, I am pretty picky with Japanese food cause I've spent time in Japan but it was pretty nice for an American Sushi joint. Good hot sake. I could have used a touch hotter (but I also want it to all but burn off cells in my throat so I want it hotter than most). Overall, was quite excellent, would go again. Hubby and son weren't that impressed with the decor (I thought it was fine) so that's why atmosphere I gave a three. Again though, would be happy to do another dinner here.

They had some sort of plumping issue and didn't respond to any customers waiting at the door or even come out of the back. They should have locked up and put a sign up.

I will never eat here again. Both of us got sick to our stomach. Rice was hard and tasted old. Green tea was just regular tea with green coloring (lmao). The fish in the rolls was room temperature, everything was bland. Horrible food. The waitress was sweet, but a bit shy.

I love going to Kumori and eating sushi, but the only problem is that the waiter always comes and asks if I want anything and wants to clear the table early. I would be happy if they left the customers alone a little more.

It was an extremely unpleasant experience. Mediocre rolls and nasty noodles. The service was poor; we hardly saw our waitress. As soon as we were seated, we waited about 10 minutes for our drinks (2 waters, 2 sodas) and an additional 15 minutes for our food order to be taken. The food itself was barely warm when it arrived, and was so overcooked that it tasted like rubber. Not to mention the 18% gratuity , dont get me wrong I would tip either way but 18%. Overall, it was a very poor experience.

This place used to be a decent spot. Not anymore. The facilities are run down, the service has gone down hill and the food is downright awful. I ordered the yakisoba.... this was the saddest plate I've ever seen with zero flavor. The only reason it's a two is because the server was nice but not attentive. Sadly this has become the standard here. It used to be a pretty busy place and now it's a ghost town most nights. I can see why.

Well, not what I was expecting. One bite is all it took. The meat had a fishy flavor which to me is an indication it's not fresh. That is an issue when it comes to sushi. However, the masago was good.

Today I witnessed the Male manager with glasses following a young female worker around the restaurant with his phone. He would not stop following her as she was crying. I saw her walk away to get away from him. I’m not sure what happened in the employee area but for him to do that is 1. Very unprofessional 2.Creepy. After calling to receive the corporate number so I can report it, he answered the phone and stated that his name is Malcom. I hope the worker is ok and that something gets done about this. I will never step foot in this business again if this is what they consider management.

If you like sushi (and I know a lot of people don't), you should definitely give Kumori a chance. It's tucked in tightly within the shops of Alamo Ranch; which makes it a great place to grab a bite if you're out shopping in that area.
They have a very diverse menu of sushi, tepenyaki and and poke bowls to choose from. The dining area is dimly lit with a nice, easy listening play list in the background.
What surprised me the most was that there was a bar in here as well. It's divided from the main dining area, which is nice. There are not many cozy places to grab a drink in this area outside of the chain restaurants nearby. The bar has some good selections, and there's a TV if you want to watch a game or just meet up with someone to hang out for a while.
The food was great! We had three different rolls, and all were delicious. The miso soup is remarkable and you'll probably want more of it.
The service was friendly and attentive as well. Definitely don't underestimate Kumori when you're in the area...I'll definitely be coming back.

So I’m new to the area and I really wanted to enjoy some sushi this place was right around the corner from me so I decided to give it a try. I got two sushi rolls and they both taste the same I should have read the volcano roll cause they are made completely different here and that was my fault. But it’s just missing authenticity I guess it’s like no love was put into it. But the staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was really nice. I would probably give it another try.

Kumoris is very hitting or Miss, when it comes to eating here. Third times when service is quick, the food is great and everything Meets expectations. However, unfortunately, it is not the most reliable place for service or food. This last go around the service was okay, and the food was good. I'll be at 1 small problem. For the price Restaurant charges for the food. There are definitely better options out there that are less questionable. I still eat Here because the sushi is good. I wouldn't really recommend it but I wouldn't tell anybody to not come.

Recently came here for lunch and everything was great until I checked my bank statement a few days later. I save my receipts and make sure to write in the tip and total on the customer copy as well. While checking my statement I realized the waiter had left himself a much bigger tip then what I had originally left which was already generous. This place lacks integrity and I won’t be back. I did call and the manager refunded me the entire tip but the waiter committed theft and that just didn’t sit right with me. Check your statements no matter where you go!

Definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. All though a nice appearance to the eye, Upon arrival hostess was quick to acknowledge us and seat us but after that is when the experience went south. We sat for nearly 15 minutes before we were handed soup and took drink order. And then we waited another 35 minutes or so before our waiter came back to take our order. Half of the order comes out. The chicken fried rice was crispy and heavily salted. The ramen was sent with old burnt fried chicken tenders, the noodles were a gooey texture. 10 mins later another 1/4 of the meal came. Salmon was definitely previously frozen salmon the texture was just of that. And the last 1/4 of the meal came another 5 min later and husband was satisfied with the roll he got. We've not been offered refills, asked how the quality of the meals, let alone any table service. Had to flag down the bartender for our check. Needless to say the $69 meal was overall not worth it.

Visited this location today with my daughter. We ordered the spicy calamari and the Flaming rolls. The calamari was so dry and the portion was so small on a large bed of spinach leaves. It looked more like a salad than calamari. The rolls were just ok as nothing special. When you go and spend $50 on a meal for two you expect to at least leave satisfied from a restaurant. Instead I felt like my visit here was just a waste of time and money. I would have been more satisfied if I had just stayed home and made myself a sandwich. Oh well lesson learned. The service was just ok and nothing special either.

Great tasting food. Indifferent staff. I literally sat at their carryout area (this has happened for 3 consecutive visits), people saw me, no one interacted with me. I had to prompt them. And this happens when I am the only person in the area - there were not even distractions around me. The sitting area, completely different experience. That is a positive experience.

Update: Better experience. Engaged staff. Uping the score. Hats off to your "To Go" team.

Everything was so coated with their spice blend that I have no idea if the sushi was fresh. Even the dumpling sauce was coated with the stuff. Makes me wonder what they're hiding. Plus... no sweet tea in Texas is saying that many of your customers don't matter to you as a restaurant. I won't be back.

My fiancé and I came here about a month ago, we loved it. I had a hair and makeup trial for our upcoming wedding and since I was all done up we decided to have a date night and eat out.

We had the pleasure of having Carla as our server this time. We ordered some cocktails, they make some good ones!, and ordered 3 rolls. Carla came to check on us quite a few times. She was very attentive and I could see here being that way with all the tables she was serving. She came over and apologized that the food was taking too long. We told her no problem! It's a Saturday, so we weren't expecting super fast service or anything. After we had finished she came to get our plates and ask how everything was and what we liked the most. We had gotten the rainbow roll, Hawaiian roll, and cosmos roll. The Hawaiian roll was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. It was different and that's what we liked about it. The cosmos roll was also good because I love octopus.

We ended up telling Carla how the last time we came it was busy, and the food did take a while, but, I told her, to us it's worth the wait because it's good and also because of the service. Even when the service is running behind a little bit, the servers always go to reassure tables.

Good food will bring people to the restaurant. But it's the service that will keep them coming back!

We came around 7:30 on a Sunday. It was busy, but the wait was only 15 minutes. We are originally from California, moving to San Antonio I told my fiancé we HAD to find a sushi spot since it’s my favorite. This was the first place we tried here in Texas, and I can’t see us going anywhere else!

The food was so good, displayed beautifully. The decor and ambiance was more than any other sushi place I’ve been to, but without it feeling too fancy ish.

Our waitress Zena was THE BEST. Even with the max capacity she still made sure to check on us every chance she could. I ordered a cocktail, bringing mine and my fiancé’s sake, she told us the bartender wasn’t in today and that she had made the drinks.

I was planning on it tasting too strong or too sweet. It was PERFECT. So we’ll balanced. Towards the end of the night we managed to speak to her a little, telling her what an amazing job she did. These are the kind of employees that make or break a place. Zena made that place.

We WILL be back again.

Our ONLY complaint is that it’s it wayyyy to dark in the restaurant. Us and we saw others, had to use our phone flashlight to read the menu

Our server, Karla, was soooo sweet and attentive! She gave us great recommendations and made sure we were satisfied with our food.

We ordered quite the spread. First, we had the spicy edamame and the gyoza. Both very delicious.

We ordered 4 rolls: Kanki, Angel, Kobore, and the Maui Wowie. The kinda all tasted the same, but we loved them all. They were so fresh and made beautifully.

We also ordered the Spicy Teriyaki Combination Udon. The beef and shrimp had great flavor but the sliminess of the noodles I couldn’t handle. Karla advised us that the combination of the sauce and the texture of the noodles is what makes them slimy. Maybe good for someone, but not for me.

Overall, 5 stars! We love Kumori. The food is always on point!

I went to the restaurant last night to place a to-go order for sushi. Normally, I would have called in or ordered online but the last time I ordered, I was missing items but didn't realize it until I got home. My husband ended up having to make the drive back to get it corrected. This time I figured since I didn't check it before leaving, I wouldn't make that mistake this time. Once I received the order and made sure everything was there, I went home. My family and I love sushi so needless to say, it gets devoured quickly. This order has been the worst sushi we have ever eaten. The rice was so over cooked that it felt like paste in my mouth. We had 5 different rolls and they all tasted the same, horrible. If I had eaten at the restaurant, I would have asked to have it all redone or asked for a refund. My advice is to have someone to check the quality of take out orders before it is given to patrons. Sushi is not cheap and I truly felt like I wasted money for poor quality.
