An extensive Japanese menu of traditional & uncommon dishes served in bustling, stylish environs.
Love this spot! When you hit the dining room, you get taken away to the other side of the world. Cool low tables accommodate 6-people for a semi private intimate experience. Jeb was a fantastic waitress, super attentive and food came out quickly and was great tasting. Definitely put this on your calendar to visit.

This place is an enigma. The food i decent, good in some respects, mediocre in others. They have a glass partition, almost like a cage, as you walk in where you are separated from everyone in the restaurant. Not a very inviting scene as you walk in, the parking situation is atrocious. They told my mom that I couldn't join them at the table after they had sat down since I was still on my way to the restaurant. They need more servers, about 15 minutes went by before one came by the table and even took my drink order, let alone meal order. This place in a sense is "doing to much," it seems they have been gaslit into thinking they are the best and most desired sushi place around. believe me they aren't. So many petty rules for some mediocre food and service. Don't come here, go to a restaurant that will value your time and money.

Fresh, phenomenal sushi and nigiri, and beautiful ambiance. However, service can be slow at times, but I will keep coming here as a regular because no other sushi in the area compares in price, quality and authenticity. The chirashi ju box is my go to!

Came here for lunch special. We visited here after missing many years. I intent to provide some reviews.
Sushi Sake has been thriving in this location for many decades. Even for lunch, I observed at least 5 sushi chefs working behind the line. The Friday lunch rush was steady and efficient. This location establishes a well deserved reputation for fresh and consistent food as well as services.
My rating as 5 is very satisfy
Taste 5/5
We ordered the Katsu ( pork cutlet) sea bass bento box and sushi combination. Sushi combo was great and I think the side salad was crisp and chilled.
Temperature 4/5
Pork cutlet was not very hot, and not very tasty. I have to ask for a little spice to enhance it.
Speed of service. 5/5
Very prompt and attentive.
Cleanliness. 5/5
Well maintain and clean
Will I recommend? Yes. Once in a while we need to taste how good a Japanese cruise is.
Will I revisit? Not really. Good food comes with high cost.

It’s my second time coming here for dinner and I have to say that the front host definitely had an attitude, he came across as somewhat rude… Overall food was fresh, there’s nothing to complain. The only thing was the ginger on the albacore tuna sashimi gave it an unappealing smell so I removed them with chopsticks

Please lower your expectation if you want to try this place.
Food I ordered: Salmon Shioyaki from lunch entrées - not recommended.
Potion size: might be good enough to feed a child below 10 year old.
- Fish fillet is about 4oz from raw (after cooking it might be around 3oz).
- Two pieces of zucchini and 1/4 of mushroom are the side dishes.
- Plus about 2oz ITALIAN PASTA - i have no idea why pasta is served in an authentic sushi place.
Taste: stinky smell from the fish is obvious, which indicates that it is either not salted long enough or the meat quality is not that good for this dish.
I would highly recommend remove this dish from the menu if it cannot be made properly. And it is pricy by considering the food quality and the cooking skills.
Service: the waitress who served has very strong egos.
- No coat check, we need to walk half of the hall way to hang our coat by ourselves
- We have one veggie people and asked for veggie options and got the respond as “we are sushi place, I am sorry” and could not make sufficient recommendations on the menu. She does not seem to be well prepared for a veggie customer.
- When we ask spoons for miso soup and got a response as “Japanese people do not use spoons to drink miso soup” and refused to bring spoons while on this table, none of us are Japanese.
The overall experience was bad. We complaint all the point to the manager after the meal. The manager thanked us and apologized for the bad experience, however, shamelessly took the 18% tip by default, and wished us for a revisit - it does not make any sense, sorry ma’am.
Other that what has been pointed out already:
- Hard to make reservation through phone (and please check the restriction list of reservation, it is almost telling you please do not reserve, very smart)
- 18% tip for take out by default, please be extremely cautious here.

Come for lunch with a combo like "sushi b", but charged with dinner price. Server claimed dinner "sushi b" different than lunch "sushi b" in quality and/or quantity, but nothing mentioned different in menu. Kind of misleading and dishonest in business.

I took a dear friend here for a birthday surprise. This place came highly recommended so I decided to give it a try. Bad decision and I will never go back . I was sooooo disappointed . The food was less than mediocre at best and the experience /service was poor. I regretted passing on my original Sushi restaurant choice - I regret driving 45 minutes to get there and I will never go back. Maybe more bad reviews and a dose of humility will force them to readjust - they treat people like cattle.

Crap service from the moment I walked in. One person of our 6 was running 20 mins late and they refused to seat any of us and made us stand outside on the heat with bis biting. Said they would not seat the last preston with us if we say without them even though the table sat 6. Won't be back.

Something has changed at one of my favorite places. The sushi bar was full, but the tables were half empty. It was well over 45 minutes for our order to be served. We wanted to reorder more, but were told it would be over 20 minutes to be served. Hot saki was served luke warm. Disappointing...

Used to be the best place for sushi. Not any more. Tuesday afternoon, we were the first seat at 11:30pm. Order 2 lunch special sushi and sashimi combo plus 2 orders of uni and flounder.
Sushi and sashimi combo...was joke. Quality is so low I can't even described. I understand it is a lunch special. Either raise the price for Quality or just remove from the lunch special.
Flounder and uni are OK. Good fresh quality. Still, there are many other sushi restaurants in dallas that easily match or better than here.
Lastly, management and servers are just average or below. Not to mention it took 35-40 mins to get my order even though we were the first one order. Can't think of any good reason why I would come back here for low quality service and food.
Try TeiAn for lunch. The quality and service are incomparable.

Here's a review you could use for Sushi Sake restaurant:
---
I recently dined at Sushi Sake and opted to sit at the bar, where I had the pleasure of watching the skilled chefs expertly craft sushi rolls right in front of me. The atmosphere at the bar was lively and engaging, giving me a front-row seat to the artistry and precision that goes into each roll. The sushi itself was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The chefs were not only talented but also friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. If you're a sushi lover, I highly recommend sitting at the bar for an immersive dining experience.

Hidden Gem. I am reluctant to give this place a good review so I could have it all for my own, but the authenticity and quality cannot be understated. This is not your strip mall sushi spot, nor is it the pretentious sushi spot watered down for the domestic population.

I hate to not give Sushi Sake 5 stars but something weird has been going on at the restaurant in the past 2-3 years. Food and waitstaff are still amazing as always but the hostesses and management seem to have a chip on their shoulders - if you’ve seen the signs they have posted up in the little waiting room you’ll know what I mean. We’ll still come here because the back room is great for entertaining a small group of people but I am not as excited to come as I once was. My only suggestion would be to re-write the signs you have posted in the waiting area to not sound so hostile and unwelcoming.

seems to be slowly dying down. The food is overpriced now, I feel like they inflated their prices way too high. Food is on the better quality side and the portions aren't too bad. They just need to adjust their prices a bit. Think around $180-$200+ for 2 people and it's not even a high-end restaurant. Automatic gratuity of 20% is added.

This is the best sushi in all of Dallas. Authentic vibe, and if you eat at the sushi bar it's a dinner and a show. I was legit sold when I order a roll they had ran out of filets for, so they pulled out a fresh fish and filleted straight off the fish, and into my sushi roll. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Sushi and fun atmosphere. Tried several different places over the, but we always end up here for the quality of the food. The only complaint is that they STILL don’t allow their guests to sit inside and wait to be seated. You have to go inside the foyer of the door, put your name on a list and then they want you to ave and go sit in your car or hand around outside the building on 100degree weather. I asked why they don’t allow customers to sit inside and have a drink and wait for their table and they responded- because of covid”
I said covid? Like 4 years ago?
Yes .
Seriously this is so stupid. People sit side by side all throughout the reaturant and they’re still using covid as an excuse. Doesn’t make sense.
But their sushi is good!

First time and the food and service was good. I like the warm feeling of the ambiance, makes it seem a little more authentic. My biggest gripe is their policy on making someone wait in their tiny lobby that only fits like 2-3 people max, until their whole party is here. When more than 1 group is waiting on additional people you are waiting outside in the TX heat, not ideal and poorly planned. That whole process needs to be addressed because it sets the stage for irritated customers constantly walking in. Not to mention the awkwardness of the greeter just sitting there staring at you not saying anything.

Black sesame basque cheese cake is MINDBLOWING. So good. Highlight of the meal!! What an unexpected pleasure to end the dinner - highly recommend trying the dessert.
The sushi and sashimi combo quality was great - a bit awkward to share with a party of 2 because a lot of them are one piece or three pieces, not two. But the tuna was tender and wasn’t fishy.
The handrolls are also great!
I love the interior and service here.
Would come back here for family occasions or date. It’s not so formal but not too casual, which I like.
Definitely recommend if you’re around the area or even in Dallas!!

During a business trip to Texas, I visited this Japanese restaurant recommended by a local client. I was quite surprised by the lively atmosphere of the place. At the sushi counter, a Japanese chef crafted the sushi authentically, which was impressive. They offer a reasonably priced nigiri set, but ordering à la carte can be just as enjoyable. Besides sushi, the menu includes a variety of Japanese snacks like karaage (fried chicken). While the service felt a bit rushed at times, as the waiters were quick to clear plates, they were still courteous and attentive. Overall, I was very satisfied with the experience.

Top notch sushi-a cut above other places. Salmon and tuna are fresh and tender, squid and octopus are toothsome but not chewy. The buckwheat noodles are a great choice. If you don't like fish, there is chicken and pork options that are excellent as well (try the karaage chicken!) service was prompt, everyone was very kind, and the bill was handled expertly with no errors. Will definitely attend again

Food: Not bad for the price. Sweet shrimp, and spicy tuna are still good!
Service: Eh. My waiter was not trained well enough to take orders correctly, but still attentive to our table. Maybe I was not so lucky that night.
Management: The old lady needs to go! She brought back the udon bowl we returned (we found hair, returned it back untouched for a new bowl), and asked us to find the hair LOL. Her look after we picked up the hair still haunts me :(
Visited 10 months ago
Having been a regular for over 10 years, this will unfortunately be my last visit. The food is still quite good, but the service has declined so significantly that it's simply not worth returning.
We ordered over $300 worth of food and drinks for four people and were only provided a small amount of ginger. When we requested more, we were told that we would be charged for it. Hmm, really?
Additionally, as soon as our kake udon was served, we found a hair in it and had to send it back untouched. The manager then brought it back from the kitchen and began asking, "Where's the hair? Where's the hair? It must be a piece of vegetable or scallion." We had to use our chopsticks to pick up the hair from the bowl and show it to her. She then simply said, "Oh, okay," and took it back to the kitchen without offering any apology. Subsequently, the waiter came and asked, "Do you want to cancel or order a new one?" again without apologizing.
I recommend that anyone read negative reviews to set their expectations accurately for this place.

My experience at this sushi restaurant warrants a 3/5 stars. The nigiri was commendable—fresh and delicious, and the fried tofu was satisfying. The ambiance of the main restaurant, especially sitting in front of the chefs, added to the overall enjoyment. However, we were seated in a side room designated for larger groups, which proved disappointing. Our server seemed to overlook us, as no one routinely checked on our table. We had to interrupt our meal to seek assistance, which disrupted the traditional dining experience. Despite our friendly server, the lack of attentiveness was notable, especially when we needed to order more. Additionally, the pricing leaned towards the higher end, with the final bill surprising us with its expense, far exceeding our expectations. Overall, the experience was average; improved attentiveness from the staff and a slight adjustment in pricing could significantly enhance the dining experience.

The three of us ordered chicken karaage, shishito peppers, chirashi dinner, sushi/sashimi dinner, salmon skin handroll, and o-toro nigiri.
The chicken karaage and shishito peppers were both well prepared and tasty but were very small portion size. They were not suitable for sharing.
Sushi and sashimi dinner had good fresh fish and the presentation was beautiful. The better value, though, was the chirashi dinner plate. It appeared to have as much variety and similar amount of fish but was 30% cheaper.
The salmon skin handroll was average and the o-toro was good but not worth the price. For example, two small nigiri pieces were more expensive than the entire chirashi dinner.
The service was spotty. They were clearly short-handed and we had to wait awhile to grab the server's attention.
Overall, we were impressed with the quality of the food, the presentation, as well as the great atmosphere.

Delicious sushi + attentive server!
We have been visiting sushi sake since 2008. We love their great quality of sashimi and sushi 🍣 but personally we would appreciate better response when we brought up how sandy the rad clam tongue is, their response was “it was normal.” No one wants to pay money to have sashimi with sand. When mentioned the dinner is to celebrate birthday, there is no in house treat. Lastly, crispy pork cutlet tastes not fresh which is disappointed for $20 cost.

Sushi Sake has been my favorite restaurant and I’ve been a regular for 15+ years. Unfortunately tonight the manager would not comp a half eaten Louisiana roll which had a spoiled piece in the middle. She treated me like I was trying to get a free roll and told me she didn’t care if I ever came back or if I had been coming for 20+ years. Instead of taking an $8 loss she chose to lose a lifelong customer. She raised her voice and kept interrupting me. I was forced to pay for spoiled fish and was treated like a criminal and liar. This is probably the 100th time I’ve ordered this roll from Sushi Sake, again, the middle piece tasted rotten and I had to spit it out. The server tried to change the narrative that they cannot comp a roll I don’t like. That is NOT what I communicated, I clearly stated the middle piece was rotten. Horrible customer service, will not be coming back.

Hit up Sushi Sake in Richardson with a buddy of mine and, man, was it a treat! This spot's been around since '97 and you can tell they know their sushi game. We kicked things off with some gyoza and shrimp tempura with scallops – talk about kicking off with a bang! Fresh, tasty, and just the right amount of crunch.
For the main show, we dove into a Rainbow Roll, plus some salmon and octopus sashimi. Freshness? Check. Flavor? Double check. It's like they snatched the fish straight out of the ocean.
The vibe there? Totally on point. It's got this traditional Japanese feel that's all about chilling out. Soft lights, cool tunes, perfect for just hanging out and having a good chat. They've got the place set up for groups too, so it's pretty easy to meet new people if it's packed.
Staff and sushi bar were spot on – clean, friendly, and they know their stuff. If you're cruising around Dallas and got a sushi craving, Sushi Sake is where it's at. Just a heads up, they've got some rules about seating and dress code, but nothing that kills the vibe. Definitely worth your time and bucks!

We have had lunch here on some Fridays for many years. Food is great, service is good, uplifting surroundings. They close at 2:00 and we eat lunch late. Today the two of us arrived asking for a table. NEW POLICY : party of two may only sit at sushi bar or share a table. We are now denied privacy at a table. We do not want to sit with others, but were forced to. Why? There were several empty tables. The food is not cheap, but sign on door states that they reserve the right to not seat people. We are reminded each visit of the kitchen closing at 1:45 pm. The rules are ungracious snd rude. We are self-employed and could not enjoy a business with such an attitude. It is a slap in a customer’s face. We cannot understand running a business this way….unwelcoming, ungracious, and rude. What is this world coming to?

You will not find a more authentic sushi restaurant in all of DFW. I’ve tried them all for decades. And I have been going to Sushi Sake for decades. There is a reason why most customers as Sushi Sake come from uptown Dallas. It’s because there is nothing remotely close to being as good in uptown or anywhere else.

Tried several of the menu items including sashimi, rolls, and cooked appetizers- all were delicious! Portion sizes sharable and reasonably priced!

I only tried take-out, never dined in. Yet I can tell the food is great. Maybe one of the best Japaneses sushi restaurants in DFW area. But their take-out services is only mediocre at best. They are not really kind to take-out customers. You'd probably be treated a little bit better than a solicitor. But you are still going there just because their food is still worth the trouble...

The most unique sushi place I've been to! Very traditional service, atmosphere, and offerings. You may forget you're in Texas for a little bit.
I enjoyed the food, including their signature Aji plate. It's definitely of the beaten path but the fact it was packed on a Tuesday evening says something!

They need to learn the basics of the sushi bar! Pickled ginger they've served along with Sushi was so far the worst I've ever had in my life. Sushi itself was ok, but overall service and basics like ginger and Wasabi ruined my dinner. One last, they don't know how to attract people because there was no service even though you spent hundreds of dollars.

Good sushi, .. but frankly, had seen better times.
Meanwhile you get this quality and size of sushi for less money.

Summary:
I realized that I wrote a lot, so here are list of quirky things that this restaurant does that you might find offensive:
- they told a family that they can’t have a bottle of milk for their new born on the table because that’s like bringing “outside food” into the restaurant.
- Dress Code policy, can’t wear a cap 🧢 but are really not enforced and the same hostess just ignore it after the door.
- you have to wait for your table outside of the door even though it’s raining outside and no one is in the hostess area.
- the smell in the hostess area…but don’t don’t try to open the door and air it out. You will get scolded.
- take out has a packing fee?!?

I love this restaurant (read my original review below) also, Read my review below about the front door hostesses. This is a continuation of the same front hostesses story, on a different day.
Today I was asked to read the rules and take off my cap 🧢 during a casual lunch, Which I was happy to comply with (even though this is my first time being asked that during all my years going here with a cap).
After entering, I saw customers with caps on and the SAME hostess walked right past them without enforcing the same rules at the door. It’s interesting to see that more customer walking in and thinks the cap rule is stupid and started putting on their caps. Meanwhile the hostess walking more people in and just stares at the ones that broke the “dress code” rules then ignore them.
This truly is a great place to have good sushi 🍣 but I think today did it for me. I won’t be going here or recommending anyone to dine here.

After going here since the old location, I have to say they pretty much kept everything the same.
I think the front hostess and waiting area needs work. After covid, they have had these weird rules about waiting outside, close the door (even though it’s 110 degrees outside or even raining). I literally have seen people upset about this. On top of that the hostess area smells terrible (not all the time). Anyhow, still recommend this place but there are some rules that just make the experience very low.

Pretty much the best Sushi in town. This deserve a five star (and I don't give the out often).
Environment is top notch. Most of the sushi chef have been there since the beginning (at least 10+ years)...at least when I was going.
The Sushi is always well made.

My dad came here cuz his friend was there first and called him to come later. When my dad came in the front desk, he told the server that his friend was inside and the server said it was okay to come in. When my dad came and sat down, took the bite. Suddenly, there was a old lady with white hair which is the owner based on what server said. The old lady literally said to my dad”get out of here” without telling him why. My dad was so shock and embarrassing.
Such a terrible experience in this restaurant!

Food was ok, atmosphere was nice. Hostess was rude. Didn’t want to seat our party of 7 until the 7th person arrived. Majority of the party was there and the 7th person was arriving within a few minutes of our arrival.

The service is very bad. The reception does not have a good attitude. We had a group of 7 guys. We asked two tables (one for 4 & the other for 3). But she insisted to seat all 7 in a table no split. We rejected and left to the other restaurant.

Rather disappointing. Went with some friends maybe 6 months ago that used to live here and love the place and they were back visiting so we went. Had a great experience with service and the food was exceptional. Went there this past weekend with some friends that were visiting and sad to say it was pretty much the complete opposite. Wanted to charge extra for wasabi which we were okay with but a bit perplexed as to why a condiment would cost extra in such a small amount but whatever. Then it never came.
The service was okay but if I had to put a word to it a bit on the caustic side of things and it was not at all like we had previously.
The food was okay, not what I would call exceptional but okay.
Our guests experienced at least one roll that fell apart easily.
Additionally, we had some beverages which my wife and I usually have sake , and our guests opted for some white wine.
The pours on the wine for our guests were very shallow.
Since we had to travel a bit further than normal to even get to this place coupled with all the other negatives I doubt that we'll be going back.

Title: Unwelcoming Treatment at Sushi Sake for Families with Children
Review:
I regret not heeding my friend's warning about Sushi Sake's unwelcoming attitude towards families with children. From the moment we stepped in, the staff made it clear that families with young ones were not their priority. The service was lackluster, with impatient and disinterested staff. The food quality was underwhelming, lacking freshness and flavor. Overall, Sushi Sake failed to create a welcoming environment for families. I cannot recommend it to anyone seeking a warm and inviting dining experience.
