Modern eatery filled with colorful lights offering classic Japanese dishes & sushi rolls.

Probably worst Yama I been too.
$26 for a bento box is crazy expensive, especially when the chicken is basically just reheated and has sause pour on it.
As well there was still soap one one of the plates they place down?? Noticed it when we lifted it up

Every dish I've tried here is delicious! There's many options for authentic Japanese food, and although I haven't tried them yet there are also several Chinese dishes on the menu as well.
I would especially recommend the creamy seafood mentaiko udon! It's my favorite dish here, they recently started serving it at this location.

We went at around 10pm, for their late night special. At first glance, the menu seemed deceivingly cheap- and we ordered quite a bit. Upon the arrival of the food, we realized that the portions were much smaller than during their regular hours- the sushi rolls were probably half inch wide each, and the nigiri and sashimi were miniscule. We found that the most worth-it items were in fact appetizers and the grilled items like the fried chicken, skewers, and white fish. Other than that, the service was good and it was a pretty comfortable environment. I've heard good things about normal hours, but the late night special is somewhat of a rip off. You get what you pay for!

This is the third Yama I've been. The first one that serves Chinese.
Service: the servers just couldn't keep up with the small crowd that was there. It also took quite a bit of time before our food came out. I recommend a wider range of liquor like the other Yama locations because the selection was very limited (less than an open bar at a cheap wedding).
Food: from worst to best
-Spider roll: this roll was quite bad. I've never had one with such smelly crab 1* the crab must have gone bad because something did not smell right.
-caterpillar roll (green one): This was quite mediocre compared to other places. I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't order it again.
-ahi tower, like the caterpillar, was just meh. It just wasn't good.
-Volcano roll: my favorite 5* however it is rich and you will want another roll to offset it.
I think this location might be better at serving Chinese food. It's just not on the same par as the frisco YAMA or the Carrollton location. I'll come back for the Chinese food and update after.

This place has so much competition all around them, so it has to be good to do so well. I splurged and got the teriyaki beef bento box for dinner.
First to arrive was the miso soup, then the salad with the traditional Japanese dressing that was so tasty I finished it as if it were soup!
The box contained the standard California roll with ginger and Wasabi, rice, tempura vegetables and shrimp, delightful pickled Japanese vegetables and an Asian potato salad that was a nice surprise, for its uniqueness. I wish that the teriyaki had been a little more tender, but I was not disappointed.
I think I paid $30 for the food, tax and tip, which I think was an incredible value. I took the rice and beef teriyaki to go, and it made a nice additional meal with the addition of a fried egg.
It has a nice atmosphere, but it wasnt very memorable. That being said, I will be returning there again soon.

There is a better location in Carrollton, the service here wasn't fantastic, I ordered two sushi rolls and only one came out, when my husband asked our waiter who took our order he went back and grabbed the sushi sheet that he used to take our order and said "No she didn't it isn't on here" I informed him I did but it was okay, I probably was too quite but he hear the first one so I don't know, he didn't offer to have the roll made or apologize, he kinda just stood there until my husband asked for it to be made, by that point I had already finished the rest of my meal and was full so I just said nevermind and asked for the check. We paid, got up to leave and another waitress stopped us as we were leaving trying to say we didn't pay. My husband showed her his bank statement saying we did indeed pay, and she kept saying we didn't pay and tried saying another check was also ours with a different card that was in the check sleeve. We had to tell the woman several times we paid and that the other check wasn't ours before she gave my husband his card back and let us leave. Being treated like we were trying dine and dash and trying to charge us for a check that wasn't ours after we proved we paid was extremely disrespectful. The food was really good, I recommend going to any other location.

Never have I ever had such terrible rolls. The front hostess with glasses was kind and sweet. However this place only cares about getting your dollars. $20 for 2 dirty tasting avocado rolls- a mix between body odor and dirt - and a side of store bought seaweed salad which definitely contained sodium benzoate. The rolls came with barely enough wasabi, also not homemade, and like 2 pieces of ginger, AND packaged soy sauce! Not even a high quality kind... The sushi rice was not the correct rice nor was it prepared properly- it was as if they cooled off some long grain rice cooker rice, rolled it in dirty nori and called it a day. I'm sure they get away with it because the clientele still has a curfew and are underage drunk and have no clue what a proper sushi place offers... Plus they r open till two am, definitely why anyone goes there... I thought I'd be in for a treat because menu specials were written in Japanese... Worst I have ever had in 40 years...

I have been a regular here since 2022, and never really liked the food that much because it was low portioned and badly cooked, but since they open late I came here a lot. After today I will not again.
I usually tip around 20-25% but I tipped less because the waiter was being very impatient and rude to me and my fiance, the food came out worse quality and horribly cooked, the servers were all around but never checked up on us, and not only that we didn't have soy sauce our whole meal. I understand service because I have been in sushi restaurants since I was in 15. This type of behavior is because they don't care about your experience and think they don't have to work for their money.
I thought I could finally leave the restaurant but a lady came over and started questioning why I tipped low. Ma'am just look at our table and ask why again. She wouldn't let up and pressured me and my fiance so I said I would tip more in cash. I didn't. I left the restaurant and you could see her banging on the window and cussing at us from the outside.
I've worked at 10 restaurants my whole life working for my money to make it by to pay for school and for my family so I always tip well and understand when food comes out lacking or late, but this is unacceptable. Whoever the manager is should fire and rehire their staff. I have never met people so entitled for their tip. I can definitely tell we were being profiled as well.
I am never coming back and will tell my company to not as well. We all are regulars here who have been lost because a woman couldn't bother to work for her money and lash out when she couldn't get what she didn't deserve. Not only that, I will tell my regular family not to come here as well. They came here a lot because there was a head chef who unfortunately passed away who always gave us a good time, drank with us, and overall made us feel welcome. I don't know what happened to this restaurant but their food quality went downhill and they hired entitled, crazy people who have been trained only to give people their plates of food and check.
Me and my fiance still work as servers in restaurants to make it by and never would dare force someone to tip more even if our service was top notch.
DO NOT COME HERE. You've lost me, my company, and my family. Thank you for your trash service.

My husband and I recently discovered this gem while on a hunt for a restaurant with good salt and pepper tofu and Yama Izakaya exceeded our expectations. The servers are amazing, the food is authentic and fresh, and our order always comes out extremely quickly. We love the casual, welcoming vibes and never feel like we’re being rushed out the door unlike most other restaurants nowadays. The menu is extensive and truly has something for everyone in your party. Also, they’re open until 2am every night which is so convenient for us when we get out of the gym late and need to grab a late dinner. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots in Plano!

In-person my 2 rolls were $7 ea and online, they were marked up to $8.50 ea.
Takoyaki in-person is $6.50 and online it's $8.50.
Sides of spicy mayo are 50¢ in-person and online they're $1 ea.
Takoyaki, Cajun Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and the spicy mayo were delicious!

My friend and I have been this place couple times and we were always satisfied with their food but last time was a disaster and we decided never come back here again. We came in around 10:10pm, the lady was nice at first but when my friend asked for a happy hour menu she was rude and asked us back "is it 10pm yet?" , at first he thought she was just kidding so he replied to her yes but then she keep asking again "are you sure it's 10pm?" Twice! She still doesn't believe him. She took out her phone to check then finally she accepted the time. We ordered 8 rolls and 5 or 6 more fried dishes. Then again she asked us "are you sure, are you sure this is not to go". I said yes, we are dine in, not to go, we've been here a couple times. We ordered foods in happy hour menu and regular menu. After check out i asked her Togo box for left over and she told me "No. It's dine in only, I told you". We were dine in the whole time and just ask for a left over box, we didn't order togo or anything. The bill was $68 for the meal and I can't get a box for left over, seriously? The waitress was rude but I still put down $4 tip even though I didn't want to. But then she chased after me and pulled me inside the restaurant asked "why only $4, your bill is almost $70, you suppose to tip me at least 10%". OMG my head is almost blew up when I heard that. I wished I NEVER tip anything for her. It was one of our favorite restaurants, we will never go back there again.

I normally go to the Yama in Frisco, which is great. I love that place and never have any issues. I work in a high end Japanese restaurant and don’t ever have issues with their food. Always great service at that location too. Decided to drop by the Plano spot tonight since I was over this direction, and I really don’t recommend. The food wasn’t good and the service was pretty bad. I had a couple pieces of nigiri (maguro, tuna, and spicy tuna) which were fine, but the takoyaki wasn’t good at all. The dough was still mostly raw in two of them, plus there was barely any Tako in them apart from one with a larger piece. There is no full service bar at this location, they only seem to serve beer and sake so just an fyi there. I would suggest skipping this location and going to the one off Preston and 121 instead.

Get the Taiwanese and Chinese food here. Their sushi/Japanese food is okay.
Highly recommend getting salt and pepper tofu. It’s crispy but soft and delicate on the inside.
Their three cups small squid is excellent and has a nice balance of sweetness and saltiness. The sugar caramelizes well on the squid or any protein you choose.
Their tomato and egg is incredibly delicious. They don’t put a lot of tomato but its flavors come through well. Put it on top of your rice and eat it together.
If don’t like seafood or tofu choose any protein with their salt and pepper or three cups of and you’ll enjoy it.

i was introduced to this place by my cousin as it is near her home and we wanted a quick bite other than fast food. my cousin mentioned that this place had a happy hour after 10pm so i figured to give it a try. Food was decent, nothing to go crazy about but, for the happy hour price—it was a good deal. service was below average. drinks where never refilled and we where checked on maybe 1 time throughout the entire time of dining. My tab came out to $70 as i covered my cousin and i. I tipped $7 because, the service wasn’t very great and food was average. While finishing my drink, the waiter comes up to me and rudely ask “um can i ask why you tip $7 when that’s under 18%” in a very rude and entitled way. i was completely baffled by the rudeness. i’d understand if she where genuinely concern regarding her service and wanted to know. But it’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Her tone of voice, verbiage, and body language was not at all of a person who was concerned. my cousin and i are still not able to fathom this entitlement. she was asian lady mid age, short hair and glasses. will not be returning here.

Slow service

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining here that left me utterly disappointed and disgusted. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this establishment was far from meeting basic hygiene standards and providing satisfactory customer service.
First and foremost, the waitress, an older lady, displayed an appalling level of rudeness throughout our entire visit. Her demeanor was unwelcoming, and she seemed disinterested in assisting us. It was evident that she lacked the basic skills necessary to provide a pleasant dining experience.
To make matters worse, one of my friends discovered a hair in her broccoli and beef plate. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the waitress took a defensive stance and questioned my friend, even going so far as to accuse her of planting the hair herself. This response was not only unprofessional but also deeply offensive.
What further alarmed us was the lack of proper hygiene practices in the restaurant's sushi bar. The staff working behind the bar did not wear gloves or hair nets, which is a clear violation of basic food safety regulations. Witnessing this negligence made us question the overall cleanliness and quality of the food being prepared.
The moment we noticed these issues, we immediately lost our appetite and decided to stop eating. The combination of the rude waitress, the hair incident, and the lack of hygiene practices left us feeling disgusted and deeply unsatisfied with our dining experience.
It is truly disheartening to encounter such a lack of professionalism and disregard for customer satisfaction in a restaurant. I strongly advise potential diners to steer clear of this sushi establishment until they address these serious concerns and make significant improvements to their service and hygiene practices.

Food was good, but customer service was not good. The waiters were often very rude and I had issues with us asking for a side of spicy mayo to take home with us like in a little tiny cup, so and also we asked for gizzards, and then, within 10 seconds, went and told them, we didn’t want the gizzards anymore and the guy was visibly pissed. Customer service isn’t a priority here but I do commend them on the food

Sushi Yama Legacy hands down has been and will continue be one of my absolute favorite place to visit for authentic Japanese/Taiwan cuisine of all time.
This place can be crowded at times during late hours because not a lot of Asian restaurants around Plano area opens pass midnight, so if you’re craving for some Asian food late at night, this will definitely be the place to go. Despite being crowded and busy at times, the staffs are really on top of their games to get you seated as soon as possible.

Sadly this place keeps going down hill. The orange beef we ordered was super pale and skewers as well.
Asked them to please grill our skewers more and when the server brought back the skewers, you can see it was just thrown in the deep fryer. The wooden sticks were all greasy and plate in oil.
Our “grilled” squid was also glistening with oil and over cooked where it was not edible. Felt like eating rubber.

This place is overrated. The 50% sushi on Sunday ad outside is literally a scam. They won't honor it after 9 pm which they never say on the ad . Food was decent but very over priced. Service was ok. Once we paid and left tip, was ambushed and blocked from leaving by manager. She wanted a bigger tip, we left 15%. Extremely rude behavior. We will not return.

Beware, they charge for sauce (without telling you) and auto-tip themselves 20%, also without saying anything. Food and service are just OK.

Picked up sushi. Was ready quick. Good price for the amount you get.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE! They would ruin your day!!!
Came in at 12 am on Tuesday night (They closes at 2 am). Came in see the host or I don't even know if she's actually the host! Aka the short old lady with short hair. I told her I have party of 3 people, she asked me if the rest of the party is here, i reply yes, they're parking. Ignore me and walked to another table to drop the check, which i thought i should be following her but guess not. Finally walked me to the table, asked me again! If the rest of the party is here?! Which they're out side walking in! Came back and slammed the extra plate on my table!
Skip to pay out part. My friend was paying with his credit card and tried to count some cash to leave them tips, but the same "Host" lady can't be patient enough and rudely asked him straight up: "did you leave the tips yet?" We were having enough at this point so I went to the sushi bar and asked for the manager, which by the way there is no manager to be found, and told them what happened! Demanding customers to tips you and you were being super rude to the customers the entire time? I don't think you should ever expect anyone to leave a tip with such attitude! The rest of the staff were sorry and nice, except for that lady! Still no apologies.
Overall the food was okay! It just really killed my mood after such good movie for this!
Please inform your service if you don't want to loose your business! Looks like there had been many reviews about this same lady that demand customers for tipping on Yelp and Google, but seems like the owner could be careless! To be honest, you should earn the money that you work for, not demanding someone to give you money with ugly attitude!

They wouldn’t let us leave unless we tipped:
Had to wait a while for food, once food came it was missing the sushi, had to wait another 30 mins for that. When we asked for the check we had to ask 3 separate times and we waiting about 30 mins just to get our check to leave. I didn’t tip because of the slow service, right before we could walk out a waitress chased us down and asked us why we didn’t leave a tip. She said they make $2 an hour and have to live off the tips. I’m a student and I don’t currently make any money, so I have to be very careful where I spend and didn’t want to tip for bad service. They need to pay their wait staff more, it’s not okay for them to have to chase customers down to ask for tips.

we came to know that the people working here in this place make only $2/hr. What a pity and how can this restaurant get away with this low wages? It is inhuman to get people to work at this rates. The quality of this place is directly reflecting the way this restaurant treats their employees.

This place is always a great spot for some amazing dishes. It has a combination of available dishes from both Japan and China. I highly recommend their sushi, sashimi, and hand rolls. Their Tuna Tower was amazing this last visit! I also recommend their salt and pepper tofu if you’re looking for a vegetarian option (I like to ask for extra jalapeños). If you want good Japanese (sushi and the like) food- this place shouldn’t disappoint!

Wow. I have found it hard to come by a place that does both Ramen and Sushi super well. This food is the definition of bursting with flavor. The tonkotsu is delicious and the Udon is a wonderful experience. The sushi is fresh and the seaweed still has the crunch to it. On top of that, they're open much later than anywhere else around. I rate this 5 stars because I would recommend it to anyone and will be coming back with friends in the future.

NOT MUSLIM FRIENDLY. I arrived before 2 people.. one being an Uber order and then a family behind me. The older hostess lady ignored me, and asked the other guests how she could help them. The guests then told her I was first. Then I said it’ll just be me please. I wanted a booth and she insisted on giving me a regular table. The guests that came behind me were seating at the booth I wanted. Proceeded to sit me down and and hush me up. I sat there for 10 mins and wasn’t helped.

I never write bad reviews, but this place is terrible. The service is horrendous. I waited at the front for over 10 minutes and not one person acknowledged me. I understand if you're busy but at the least you can say "sorry I'll be right with you". The staff will look right at you and not say a thing.
I've gave this place three chances and it's the same every time.
As far as the sushi goes, it's ok. If you're not trying to eat late, there is way better sushi.

Very mediocre place with the only good thing being the hours opened. Small portions and the people that work there look like they just want to go. They're always looking down at the floor and run away as fast as possible as if they just want to not get any work.

I went here with my boyfriend and we had a great time! The staff is very friendly and the sushi was great! They also have good vegan and vegetarian options.

I came for the ramen while I was sick. And honestly, it was disappointing. The soup was barely warm. The ingredients were not hot. Plus I found food string in my noodles. They charge $1 for half an extra egg. And the chasu pork was soggy.
Hopefully their sushi is better..

The best place for ramen in my opinion. Tonkotsu ramen is the best! I love the shrimp rolls they offer. There can be a wait but when you want sushi late it's a nice place to go. I always love going to izakaya!!! The rolls in the picture was tempura shrimp, salmon roll, and a California roll.

A mediocre dining experience combined with poor service and a very odd experience that bordered on some sort of profiling.
Food was average, possibly good. However, it was a bit hard to enjoy when I was the only person to not receive my food for over an hour. Said food was a single order of chicken karaage. After a few events of attempting to flag down our waitress who seemed to be avoiding our table, we eventually got someone to see about my order If they had just forgotten my order, which happens and would be whatever, I wouldn't have even bothered getting upset. I worked in food service for years, I get it.
However, that did not happen as multiple people came out to inspect our table, and unsubtle-y prod other members of the table about the single order of chicken karaage as if I might have eaten it and was hiding the bowl. Eventually, after asking someone else at my table what I had ordered, instead of me, they brought out my food. It would have been frustrating but not suspicious had I not been the only black guy at the table. I won't say it wouldn't have happened to anyone but it was very strange. In any case it shouldn't have happened to anyone. A poor and offensive experience for okay karaage.
