This was very disappointing experience. The food is extremely overpriced given the quality they are serving. The Cole slaw on the fish tacos is obviously from a premade bag and the chicken on the fried chicken burger seems to be frozen patty. We paid $25+ for dishes that were not fresh and still left hungry. There are many other places to get quality food for this price range - will not be back

Been here a couple times before. Food is good but doesn’t make the price. The lettuce wraps are the one thing I like. My wife was in the mood to go again. They were out of the lettuce wraps and Modelo Beer. Idk how you’re out of a certain beer btw. Service seems slow even when dead. A basic burger is $22 and the cheapest thing on the menu. Dave your money and don’t go here.

Ok. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but when it takes 20 minutes after you're seated to get service, then you have to go to the bar yourself to get your drink order to the table, then they bring you a duplicate of your starter order, I leave a bad review. Also, whatever you do, DO NOT order the Chilean sea bass if you haven't already eaten a full meal.

My name is Kevin, and this was my first time at Kona Grill. I saw the restaurant online and decided to try it with my family, who were visiting from out of town. Everything we ordered tasted great, and the experience was delightful. Our waitress, Zen, provided impeccable service; she was prompt, attentive, and seemed to know exactly what we needed without being overbearing or distant. We all had a great time, and it made for a memorable experience. If you go, I highly recommend asking for Zen she made the experience even better.

This was a really great experience! I am so glad we didn’t listen to the TikTok review, and still came here to eat, because the service and food exceeded our expectations. Zen was our server, and she was attentive and pleasant throughout; all while training another server. There were options for all of us, which was great since we all have different preferences (ie., pescatarian, vegetarian, and more) When we’re in town again, my family and I will definitely come back to try other menu items that we missed this visit.

I used to go to Kona Grill all the time pre-pandemic for their happy hour, But I don’t think I will ever be returning after the experience I had on Christmas Day. I do appreciate them being open on Christmas Day because my family Of three has started a new tradition of eating out instead of with family on Christmas Day, So I was excited to Pick Kona Grill for this Christmas. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was that the host Didn’t speak To us, was stressed out And screaming Out party names. Thankfully, we made a reservation and was seated within 10 minutes only to Observe that the restaurant Was only about half full, So I’m not sure why the host was scrambling and yelling in our faces as we stood at the Hostess stand Upon entry. We were seated in a larger section, but unfortunately there was only one server working four tables. That’s no problem assuming that people did not want to work on Christmas Day. Of course, service was slow, but that was to be expected, but our server was very Frazzled. The problem was more so the food. It was not how I remembered it pre-pandemic, The quality was poor, the portions were small and I highly regret Choosing to eat at Kona Grill for this occasion. My husband ordered pasta, which was drowning in sauce. I had a 6 ounce steak that was completely unseasoned and cut weirdly. The bathroom was dirty… I just couldn’t wait to leave. And the bill was $100 for us plus a kids meal! Im still so disappointed 3 days later. I didn’t even remember to add the visit to my loyalty points.

The sushi chef argued with me for 5+ mins when I asked how much longer my take out order would be (it took over an hour to prepare). Mind you, this was on a Monday night and the place was less than 1/4th full...

To quote the sushi chef, "If you needed this sooner, you should have planned your meal better".. He also said, "It takes this long to prepare this much food"... Keep that in mind if you come here. If you plan to order food for 4, it's going to take over an hour to prepare.

How about not taking 70 minutes to prepare 3 specialty rolls, 3 orders of sashimi (sliced fish, with 0 prep), and 2 basic rolls (California & Philadelphia for the kids).

Here's the kicker... when I got home, the 2 of the 3 specialty rolls were missing! I called them back of course, b/c that's 51$ of missing food from my order.. I'm still hoping the restaurant will provide a credit, but I'll dispute it through my bank in the meantime.

Yeah, I just moved here and this was my first time looking for a "new" sushi spot... definitely NOT the experience I was looking for after spending 200$.

This location is huge and has a very nice ambiance. Beautiful space, impressive decor, etc. Awesome location, easy in, easy out.

The food is good but often mediocre at best, especially for the prices. The prices are steadily increasing. Look, I get it. Recession and everybody needs to make it up, but c'mon man, $20 for a STANDARD SUSHI ROLL? Bruh....

Now, the service. Ohhhh, the service....

I live in the area and have been here off and on for a few years. Many moons ago, I got good service, but as of the past 2 years, it's been pretty terrible.

Long waits for drinks. Longer waits for the mid food. And it's NEVER busy. In my experience the staff just doesn't give AF about servicing tables in a timely manner. Nor the bar. Walk in, sit down, no service for 10 minutes. Then, "oh hey, what would you like?" "OK great, see you in another 10 min."

Pathetic.

Look, I've given them many chances and it's just subpar every time. Not that I'm looking for 5 star cuisine or experience but dang, do better.

Huge restaurant with a nice ambiance. Had a (very overpriced) tuna poke bowl at the bar. The service was good and the food came out quickly. But for the price the portion size and flavor were really lacking.

Disclosure: The poke bowl IS listed in "The Lighter Fare" section of the menu, so I expected it wouldn't be large. However, the server told me The Lighter Fare items are still quite sizable portions. So for the $25 price ($32 total with tax and tip, no beverage), it was wayyy too small. It was average in taste. I don't plan to return.

Not what it used to be. Slow service, subpar food. Ordered shrimp pad tai, very disappointing in quality and taste.

10/19 tried again today while raining for dinner. Three host/hostesses were just standing there watching while I tried to enter with umbrella and holding the door open. Last visit had a sea bass with strong ammonia taste, so waitstaff suggested a "more tender, flaky" Hawaiian Pomfret. It turned out to be tough and bland, really pricey at $25. Three times in a row, I gather their strength lies with the sushi and rolls. Seafood entries are not recommended.

Payment took unacceptably long. Staff is attentive and courteous though.

03/2024: Friday afternoon for happy hour. Management seems to forget meaning of happy hour by cutting either significant portion or centerpiece material, thereby making them more expensive relative to full priced item ounce by ounce. This may explain slow business on late Friday afternoon.

Taste was about the same as before, but there are happy hours elsewhere that offer real value.

12/2024 Tried happy hour again on a late Monday afternoon. Food is so bad that we’ll quit trying. Quality, taste and appearance are seriously substandard, making it not worthy of dining regardless of price. Only positive was service.

Last 3 times service was not good. On Tuesdays my wife and I get there about 5:30 to get a couple appetizers and wine before a 6:30 meeting. We sit at the round table in the bar area. We’re given a menu right away, then 20 minutes later no water and nobody has taken our order. By the time they come, it’s too late for us to order. So maybe don’t sit in the bar area during happy hour?

If I could give 0 stars I would. Stay away! My girlfriend and I visited your restaurant last night (Tuesday), marking our second visit in the last 30 days. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with both the quality of the food and drinks, as well as the service.

Here’s a breakdown of our order and the issues we encountered:

Seared Sea Bass Sliders – We were informed that you were out of sea bass, which was frustrating given that this was the dish I was most excited to try

Spicy Shrimp Tempura – The shrimp was undercooked, with too much sauce, making it unappetizing and slimy in texture

Spicy Tuna Roll – The sushi was made with ground tuna, which was poorly prepared and tasted off. It was neither fresh nor flavorful

Picasso Roll – This was the best item of the meal, but "best" in this case still means it was just "okay"

Drinks – We ordered a margarita and a cosmopolitan, both of which were watered down and undrinkable

To make matters worse, despite there being only a handful of customers in the restaurant and 15 staff members sitting around, the service was incredibly lackluster. After paying our bill, I asked to speak with the manager to address these concerns, but she refused to come speak with us. Looks like all of the staff was in training! Avoid this place like the plague!!

Terribly disappointed. Yesterday, a group of ladies from work ran next door at 2pm to grab lunch. We ordered fairly quickly, no appetizers, just our meals because we were famished. We received the food at 3pm and it came out sporadically. The server was trying her best but was not getting any support. The manager stopped by the table and explained that the server was very new and not doing well. The manager blamed the server, the manager of the restaurant (she was quick to explain that she wasn't the regular manager she was there to help - but she was not giving support to the server) and told us to ask for a different server next time instead of the waitress that we had. The kitchen was struggling to keep up even though there were 8 at our table and possibly 15 other people in the entire restaurant. (We were not the only table waiting a long time. Another lady was very irritated.) There was no communication other than the "manager" throwing everyone under the bus. Everyone at the table got their food except me. I was told after waiting an hour to receive our food (the entire table had been served their food) I was informed that the meat for the french dip was not ready yet and would I please order something else off of the menu. Ummmm....no. The "manager" gave a general apology and told us she would comp us our next meal. Ummmm....no. She gave everyone at the table a $10 coupon for our next visit. Some of the other ladies will go there but I won't. I really despise when a manager won't accept responsibility for the situation, apologize to the person that was inconvenienced, and make it right at the time of the incident. BTW, the 1-star for the food is because I didn't get mine so I can't tell you how good the it is.

Went with my friends for their new all you can eat Sushi Sunday and had a blast! Definitely a great deal if you’re with a group since everyone can order what they want and no need to worry about splitting the bill evenly etc after! Sushi was great quality and had a lot of variety of rolls/nigiri which I really liked. Half of us wanted to sit inside and the other half wanted to sit on the patio so the manager was really accommodating and sat us at the indoor patio and opened up their sliding doors to please everyone. Our server was really kind and attentive the entire time. Overall a great dinner, will definitely be returning!!

I went there a couple months ago, as a date, around 8pm, we made a reservation and the place was empty but we even wait for being called, there was no host at the front door. After like 10 minutes someone set us a table. We got 2 entrées and one appetizer and the bill was around 230$!! The server didn’t bring straws for the drink and just left the food and disappeared. We wanted more water and no one get close to our table for around 20 minutes, and the fries wasn’t even good.

We used to be regular customers at Kona Grill and always had a good dining experience. However, we have not been to Kona Grill in north Dallas for several years and had heard they filed for bankruptcy so were excited to see that they are open in Plano, and stopped in for dinner on Saturday night. Unfortunately, we were totally disappointed and will not be back!
For starters, though we were promptly seated (the restaurant was almost empty), we sat for at least 10 minutes before my husband went to the bar and asked for help. The bartender asked one of the servers to attend to us but he seemed to be put out by this request. He came to our table, did not really greet us or even introduce himself, took our drink/appetizer order and scurried off. About 15 minutes later, he brought us our wine, which was barely cold, and THEN informed us that they were out of lettuce wraps. Really? So we now have drinks but no appetizer. Fine. We ordered avocado spring rolls and waited another 10-15 minutes for those and sipped on our drinks that are now warm. The spring rolls were nothing special and barely warm. Our server did not notice that we didn’t have silverware/napkins and disappeared again before we could ask him for some. So we had to grab silverware/napkins from a nearby table. Our server never came back to check on us; did not refill water glasses all night; and frankly, seemed bothered that he had to serve us. He was always hurried as if he was attending to 10 other tables but I think we were his only one!
Kona Grill was a Hawaiian restaurant and used to feature great seafood entrees. Their sweet sticky rice was our favorite. Now, they do not even serve it! Their menu is more like common American cuisine, nothing special, and very overpriced. The few seafood options they had - seafood with bok choy (no mention of rice) for $42 and salmon with fried rice (what?) for $37 were not tempting so we opted for cheaper, more common entrees. I got the lemon garlic penne pasta and added shrimp. My husband ordered the cilantro lime chicken. We waited almost 30 minutes for our entrees and were totally disappointed with both. The pasta did not include garlic bread like it was supposed to. There was barely any sauce which was not creamy, had a weak lemon flavor but no garlic flavor. The pasta was undercooked and there was barely any parmesan cheese. It was edible but not good. My husband took two bites of his meal and stopped. The chicken was so dry he could not eat it. The turmeric rice tasted like some weird fried rice and was crunchy. We waited at least 10 minutes for our server to stop by and ask how everything was but he never did so we had to track him down via another server. When my husband told him that his food was inedible and that he was not going to pay for it, the server grabbed the plate and took off. No – “I’m sorry” or “what was wrong with it” or even “I’ll let the chef know.” NO care, no questions, no return to our table. I ate about half my meal and then we again flagged down our waiter and told him to bring us the check.
As the server headed off to get our bill, I told him the chicken was dry, the rice was terrible (just in case he wondered) and that my plate did not include garlic bread. He didn’t seem to care. During all that time, NO ONE apologized; no one asked questions; no one offered anything to make things right… not the server, not the chef, not the manager. We assume the manager had to know because the server had to ask permission for him to be able to delete the entrée item from our bill.
Do yourself a favor and save your money by finding another local restaurant. Looking at other locations in the area and even in Las Vegas (where we used to live and frequent Kona Grill), one can see that there has been a significant decrease in positive Google reviews and happy customers in the past few years. Since being purchased by another company, Kona Grill seems to have lost its stellar reputation for good food, great service, and excellent dining experience.

Today I dined in the West Plano location and my server was Drey. I needed to have lunch but also take business calls so I requested a booth. Drey, my server, was prompt with drink service as well as food. She was knowledgeable of the menu, how food items were prepared, professional and kind to continue serving throughout the lunch without interrupting my business calls. She communicated with me, addressed all of my needs never missing a beat. I enjoyed having her at my table, and I look forward to returning to this location.

The drinks are also mediocre for the price. There are too many other great restaurants in the area to go here. Over priced, lowest service, and poor quality. Never again.

I am rating the food one star because of the very poor quality of the steak meat. A $44 steak should not be below outback steakhouse quality. Unfortunately it really seemed that the ribeye steak was made of meat pieces and cartilage glued together to look like it is from the same source. It was shocking to be honest. I must say that I appreciated that the manager came to our table, he kept his cool and adjusted the bill a bit after I politely expressed my discontent. For that reason, am rating the customer service 5 stars and I'll disregard the fact that our server didn't know how to open a bottle of wine, other than that she was very polite and checked on us multiple times.

We had not been to Kona in at least 2 years. My boyfriend and I were craving Sushi and the Plano location was the closest. We were definitely not disappointed! We went a bit early so it was not as crowded and decided to sit at the bar. The ambiance was wonderful and the prices extremely fair and reasonable for the great quality. The food was phenomenal but what was the crowning jewel of the whole experience was our server Yoel. He went above and beyond on his recommendations of the rolls we got, along with other food items and tasty beverages! His descriptions were on point and his service was not typical in any way! We will definitely make this a once a week casual stop over.

The service was slow, no refills barely any ice in the drinks. The prices are extremely high for the portions and the food you get. Pretty convinced everyone that “loves” this place don’t get out much. The hamburgers were over cooked dry, the avocado eggrolls were cold when served, they charge 9$ for a tiny basket of fries. Just SEVERELY disappointed.

It should be more packed than it is because they have some landmark dishes…some items not so much but still a good enough menu to keep the place packed. Just ate a late lunch with a friend at the Plano location. Zen, who was our waitress, was outstanding. She is a huge asset to this establishment. It started with a greeting and smile. I could see that the restaurant was short-handed but she never once let that stop her incredible service. She was very friendly and attentive the entire time. Our water glasses never went empty, food was served fast and it was wonderful. There was nothing we needed as Zen was on top of everything. We both had the Power Lunch ( and chose the Asian Salad, Spicy Tuna Roll, and of course the yummy brownie that comes after the first 2 courses).
Zen really made this dining experience exceptional!
Anyone reading this should totally ask for her!

It had really good flavor and they really piled on the toppings! It was super refreshing with great flavor. The burger was really juicy and the fries had great crisp!
