Tsukimi was born out of a desire to enhance the Japanese cuisine culture in Austin and a deep passion for food. We aim to treat every customer and diner with a unique cultural experience of contrasts: exotic yet familiar, decadent yet comfortable.
I used to be a regular here and consistently had a nice culinary experience. Excellent sushi here, it's always very fresh and creatively (and colorfully) presented on the plate.
The Out of Control is by far my favorite roll here. It's mouth watering and delicious. I had never had sushi that had cherry tomatoes on top of it before, it's unique interesting.
I have not yet tried the all you can eat meal experience, but plan to do that potentially sometime in the future.
And the service was great as well, especially the last time I visited the service was on point. Will definitely return and recommend for a local sushi spot.

Amazing sushi. But more importantly, the service!! Our server saw that what we ordered would actually be less expensive if we switched to the "all you could eat" tab. It was our first time, and we would have never known the difference. I will definitely be making this our go to sushi spot.

Service was super slow, understaffed, but also just not managing the flow effectively. Tempura was fantastic but the rolls looked better than they tasted. A bit bland. Was overcharged for an appetizer. Was hoping for more. Maybe it was just an off night. That happens.

The salmon was good. The rice was fine. But if you cannot cook something properly, then simply do not put it on the menu. The owner came out and tried to tell me that they could not cook the 'calamari' tender because of the batter... Like that was some sort of excuse for serving tire rubber.
The miso soup was flavorless with refrigerator cold tofu bits. This place was good five years ago. Today... Give it a miss.

Hands down this is the best quality AYCE sushi spot in Austin, Sushi Junai and Sushi Bang Bang pale in comparison. Everything I had was delicious, and their Spicy Garlic Edamame is probably one of my new favorites of all the spice edamame in Austin, it has a unique dried red chili flavor that’s just amazingly addictive. They also offered four types of gyoza, tried the shrimp and the pork and both were homemade and weren’t the standard frozen gyoza commonly offered in places offering AYCE. Had two large rounds of nigiri and all were super fresh, they even had hirame which I don’t think I’ve seen on any AYCE menu in town. The Bonsai Roll with the red vinegar was outstanding. I live in south Austin but I’ll be back, and I’ll tell all my friends too!

Smelled like sewer walking through the door, didn't get food poisoning though. The veggies were watery, the chicken was ok, the tuna sashimi was great, the tea tasted burned and the asian waitress spent all of her time at the Asian tables, I had to literally yell for her to get so much as a refill when the table right next to us had everything they needed or could ever want. Spent 70 dollars here and hated every minute of it. Will not return. Sell it back to Einstein's bagels.

I have been to 100+ sushi restaurants & this one has to be one of the worst for portion size & service. The atmosphere was great, but everything else was garbage. Saturday night dinner, party of three (male & two female) plus one child (2ys old), & instantly got the impression the staff wanted us in-and-out as soon as possible. I get it, a majority of the crowd included younger patrons, so we were given a seat towards the back. I ordered 5 plates (Dragon roll, rainbow, volcano, salmon crunch, & over the rainbow) from the regular menu. Every single plate had little to no fish (I literally mean a speck of fish). Volcano was drowned in spicy mayo with nothing but crab meat. Everything from ordering our drinks, taking our order, & asking for appetizers/extras was rushed. Before even finishing our rolls I asked for the check. The worst 100$ I ever spent on bad service & under portioned rolls. An employee had the nerve to approach my party in the parking lot & ask for the signature receipt for a tip. I sent him back inside to get a pen & wrote $0.00 on the receipt, then signed it. Unless you're under 30 on a Saturday night with no kids do not bother coming here. Beyond disappointed considering had my significant other, my son, & my relative from out of state was with me. 100% a garbage establishment.

*BE WARNED* they will FORCE TIP ON YOU. They WANT to customize the tip to themselves rather than letting you do it.
I came in here and had an alright time. As I was checking out, the lady asked my girlfriend if she can place a tip. No, I'm going to tip based on the service I got which was normal and nothing out of the ordinary.
As I was leaving the empty restaurant, the owner RAN to my door and banged on my window, yelling at me that I should place a 20-25% tip instead of 15%. That is absolutely absurd. I left and I checked my card a couple of days later and I found out they put 25% without my permission. I filed a claim and got all my money back.
I will NOT come back and I am NOT the only one who experienced this.

The food is good. However, we were force to tips them more. Understandable that is part of their income. As usual, we will put down the tips amount after we received our receipt. That’s lady at the register forced us to put down the gradituted that was on our check. I asked her can I customize the tips? She said yes, I said I want to put down 15% of the total check but she said no, she kept forced us to follow the gratitude on the check. The point here is she asked to tips before paying is ridiculous and she also forced us to tip her at the amount that she wanted. I never been to any restaurant that was rude to customers and forcefully demand a tip according to their wish. I definitely never come back to this place. This is inappropriate and unprofessional to directly ask customers to tip more.

My "treat yoself" dinner while on work rotation in Austin did not disappoint! All you can eat sushi for $36?! Sign me up! All 6 rolls I had were delicious, and the goyza and miso soup were excellent as well. They were very nice and attentive, asking if I was ready for the next round or cleaning the ates when I was done. I would highly recommend this place, and if I'm ever in the area again for work, I will definitely be back!

More like a “ limit on what you can eat”. Tons of rules with how many round you can order and how many pieces per round. What kind of AYCE is this? Totally a false advertisement establishment. Service is bad. Server just walked by our table and talk to us but never stopped or looking at it. Like are you talking to me? We had a question about the food and a lady came to our table. Looked at our food and just walked away. Like hello what the F? We are talking to you. We ordered the “limited order only”. They tricked us and never brought it out. When we asked to double check on our order, the server checked with the kitchen and came out with a bunch of excuses. “ oh i couldn’t read the number so i just cancelled it” so why did you said you brought the food out earlier? Never got an apology from any of them. Fatty salmon (toro) is just a regular salmon. Not toro. Scam!!! I went to a lot of omakase and also sushi place all over the world and I’m from NYC where there are tons of sushi restaurants. I know my sushi! At the end, when we are trying to pay, the same lady earlier was begging for more tip!!! Seriously?!?? I was generous enough to leave $15 tip. No! They want more!! For what kind of service did i receive? A look from your face? A walk away from the servers? Or the undelivered food that i ordered. She will adjusted the tip on her own end by herself!!! Fraudulent! Scam! Sure! Take $4 more and you are getting nothing from us as customers. BE AWARE AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SCAMMED LIKE US!!!

READ THIS BEFORE GOING. I have never been to a worse “all you can eat” sushi place in my life. I’m personally a very easy diner. All I ask for is some mutual respect and decent food. When you sit down you are slammed with all these rules they put up. They limit to 4 rounds of ordering, some items are limited to 2 rounds and 1-2 pieces per person. Also no sashimi available. They repeatedly told us to eat everything and cannot leave any rice as well. I understand AYCE had a penalty for wasting food which I always oblige. But they really overdid this here and how exhausting to be a customer. Food was just edible, like supermarket sushi. When we checked out, we wanted to leave a 15% tip because of how bad the service was. They said no 18% is minimum, and when we said fine, they put 20% instead. Fraud much? Come here if you want to spend $45 for terrible service and below average food. I rarely leave a bad review especially to a local restaurant but I had to for this because I dont want you to make the same mistake coming here.

great staff, great service, great AYCE sushi program!!! The product is very good and for about $25 per person, that's doable. But don't be wasteful, they will charge you by the piece if you are. Pro tip, if there is a roll you really like, get 2. They call the full rolls, but they are more like halves. Still very good, just ask for 2.
Update: after several more visits over the years (this update is in April of 2024) UNBELIEVABLE! AMAZING!!! THE VERY BEST!!! This place is the very best service and food anywhere!!!

I had previously given a good review, and admittedly the food is good. However, last time we went we had a very uncomfortable experience with the older female hostess. For background we come here almost every week for AYCE and tip $20-$30 each time. Tonight we were in a hurry to get dinner after work so we stopped here on the way home. I only had cash so I paid my bill and told her she could keep the change. She told me, "That's not enough for a tip. You need to give more." I told her the cash was all I had but she kept saying it wasn't enough. I had to get my husband to come back and use his credit card just for a larger tip. She told us she had to start a new transaction since I already paid in cash and then she charged us a fee to use card, again just for the tip that she was demanding. As regulars who are always very polite and have never had a bad time here or complained we were really off put by her behavior. Unfortunately won't be back.

WARNING: They FORCE tip 20% or else they will get MAD at you.
I would say I am a food critic but I generally LOVE helping small businesses grow. I try my best to put a smile on everyone's face and positivity every single day. But this place just ruined it for me.
Came with my gf at 8pm and there was only 1 party there. Red flag already.
Our service was normal. Didn't ask how my day was and filled my water it was already 80% full. The only thing I asked for was extra napkins. Food is a step above HEB quality at unlimited amounts
I went to the checkout and the cashier wanted to put a tip amount THEMSELVES. I said no, I will tip the amount I want to based on my experience. I put 11% and rounded up.
As I started my car the owner RAN to my car, KNOCKED on my window and YELLED at me for not doing 20% I told him I can tip whatever amount I want and I'm not required to pay what THEY want me to pay. He continued to yell at me and said NEVER to come back.
I have NEVER experienced anything like that. I read other reviews on Google and Yelp and this IS NOT the first time they've done this. BE WARNED

I wanted so badly to like this place seeing as it was so close to where I work, however after my last 2 experiences I won't be returning.
Last week after dining in, some of the sashimi tasted "off". I just wrote it off as possibly not liking that particular type of fish, even though I love any and all sushi typically. Afterwards, I didn't feel too great and my stomach felt like it was in knots.
Today, however was unimaginable. I had the sushi/roll lunch and after returning back to work my body forcefully expelled everything back out of my body. Definitely don't recommend.

Don't go here. The fish wasn't fresh, and service and food was super slow despite us being one of four parties in the restaurant and there being four chefs at the sushi counter and three waitstaff. Two waitstaff members were sitting at the counter on their phones for 80-90% of the time we were there, and the other was standing at a desk where he couldn't see us. I had to get up and bring them the filled out all you can eat menu to place our order.
We ordered nigiri - the ama ebi was cooked (it should be served raw), and the snapper, sea bass, and yellowtail were all fishy. The 'giant scallop' nigiri is just chopped up small scallops mixed with mayonnaise. The tuna was mushy and flavorless. The salmon and escolar were ok, but not good. The slices of fish are *super* thin compared to other sushi places in town, and the rice is densely packed and too cold. Sushi bang bang has fewer fish options, but the fish is WAY better quality.
If you have a gluten allergy or have celiac disease and are determined to eat here despite my warnings, bring your own gluten free soy sauce - theirs is funky with an overpowering mushroom-y smell.

Extremely subpar service tonight.
- My partner's rolls were dense and disproportionate.
- Our waiter routinely ignored us.
- I had to wait almost 30 minutes to place my second AYCE order.
- The hostess refused to let me fill out my own tip.
- According to other reviews, this is not the first time she's done this.
Context: I work in tipped food service. I'm patient and kind with my requests. I planned to tip 15% despite my awful experience, which I think is perfectly reasonable. I was essentially forced to tip either 18%, 20%, 25%, or bust.

Been to this place couple times but today is the worst experience I've ever had here. If there was a zero I would rate zero for the service/checking quality. The server was nice but the lady at the front desk to get your check was awful. She forced me to add at least 18% tip to be counted as a total bill, and then printed out the ticket with that amount plus the gratuity line under. First of all I can tip how much I want, she can't force me to tip at least 18%. I only dined in 2 people. Secondly she added that tip amount to be a total amount and still have a tip line below it. This is ridiculous.
Not mention the food today was not even ok. It used to be better than this.

Let me preface by saying I frequently go here, or rather used to. I dined in today, party of 3, and at the end of our meal we were told to pay our bill at the front without being given an itemized receipt. Total was $155 for 3 AYCE $35/each. The math ain't mathin.
When asked about the extra charge on our bill, we were told that since we asked for no onion with our tempura and because we left half a piece of sushi rice our server auto charged the tip. His exact words being "I need to make sure I get my tip money". I regularly tip 15-20% of my own volition but I'm confused how someone has a right to write in a $25 tip for themselves on my credit card and attempt to trick me into paying by not showing the bill.
If the issue was leftovers as he claimed then I would have gladly paid the amount necessary. It definitely would not have amounted to $25. However the option was never given and I was left feeling robbed. We were yelled at that if we didn't like this auto write in tip to "never come back here again". Unfortunately I will be taking his words to heart. I advise anyone dining here to check their bill before paying.

The sushi was very good. The service was pretty bad. This was our first time dining here and it seemed like there was no communication between the kitchen and the servers. They brought other people's sushi to our table twice before we got ours. They were busy and our waiter seemed overwhelmed, but he kept a smile on his face even though it was clear that he was not familiar with the sushi on the menu. I look forward to trying Tsukimi again, just maybe not during the night shift.
Update: went back, service was much better, eel sauce tasted funny like it was burnt or something and it was very dark in comparison to other places.

Went for all you can eat and left completely stuffed. There are a lot of roles to choose from as well as at least a dozen versions of nigiri, which is very unusual for all-you-can eat. There's no sushimi, but you can order that off their normal menu. Beer and sake as well.

After my first and final visit to this establishment, I can say it is horrendous. I did the all you can eat option and got an assortment of nigiri sushi and some rolls. I cannot express to you how disappointing it was. I am surprised that I did not get food poisoning after eating their tuna. Every piece of fish has a fishy smell and that is not how it is supposed to be. Id take my business to sushi Junai any day before ever returning here. The service was good on a positive note.

The food wasn't great, but it was edible.
We paid for the all-you-can-eat option that included the nigiri sushi. We first got the sushi and I was a bit worried. The fish wasn't fresh at all and looked dried out. The sushi rice was overseasoned with vinegar and much too sour. The rolls were cut unevenly and came apart easily when using chopsticks. The miso soup and seaweed salad tasted store-bought, like the pre-made stuff you'd get at a Restaurant Depot. The only thing my wife and I enjoyed was the salmon skin salad, where the salmon skin was at least crispy.
In terms of ambiance, it was darkly lit inside but you could tell the interior was run down and the owner didn't put much time in upkeep and appearance. The only bright spot was that the server was very attentive and pleasant.

It is a small place, so if busy, it could get crowded fast, and the service can take a while to get your food even when there were about 5 other full tables but the waiter service was great taking our all you can eat orders and refilling our drinks but the food was top notch definitely comparible to San diego where I came from with the best and most fresh sushi and it was only 35 a person during dinner which was well worth it

It pains me to write this review for Tsukimi, as the food was truly delightful, boasting of expertly crafted dishes that had the potential for a high rating. However, the experience we had with the service completely overshadowed the food, warranting just one star.
Starting from the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff displayed a discouraging level of disrespect and lack of customer care. With only one other group present at the time, we were given no choice in seating and denied our preference for a booth. This denial felt arbitrary and set an unwelcoming tone for the entire evening.
Throughout our meal, we observed preferential treatment for other patrons. Our table was repeatedly neglected, though the servers had to pass our table to attend to others. Our requests for assistance and our needs went unfulfilled, making us feel like second-class customers. This treatment affected our enjoyment of the food and created an unpleasant atmosphere that culminated in an even worse experience upon leaving when we were subjected to name-calling.
While the culinary team at Tsukimi may succeed in delivering exquisite dishes, the subpar service leaves much to be desired. A truly enjoyable dining experience encompasses both good food and exceptional service. Until the management addresses these issues, I cannot recommend Tsukimi to others. Dining out should be a pleasure, not a reason for distress.

I ordered takeout after having good experiences at Tsukimi in the past. I get home and find that half of the stuff in my $200+ order is either incorrect or missing. I call Tsukimi and inform them of the mistake, and was promptly asked to make the 45 minute round trip back so they can inspect the items and make sure my order was botched. As if I couldn't tell that my gyoza had been replaced by a grilled piece of fish that can most generously be described as "fragrant."
At this point I'm done with the whole exercise and ask if they can just refund the order. They sheepishly agree to this, and I thought that was the end of that.
But no. That was most certainly not the end of that. 5 minutes later I get a call back from Tsukimi. A different employee is on the other end of the line, and he informs me that they won't issue any refunds unless I make the trip back since they "triple checked" and were certain the order was correct. On top of that, they had the absolute gall of implying that I was trying to cheat them, and that I should spend my money elsewhere.
Anyway, I'll be spending my money elsewhere and contesting a charge to my card tomorrow. Buyer beware.

Pretty decent sushi for a nice price. I do have to say though, my wife and I had some fried rolls for dinner and you could kinda taste the old/reused oil with each bite we took so it put us off a bit. Otherwise the food was pretty good and service was okay.

My husband and I went here for our first time tonight to have an early dinner after work. The restaurant is clean and cutely decorated with dim lighting. The service was quick and efficient and VERY friendly! Our server brought out waters and 2 sets of plates, napkins & chopsticks before we even looked at the menu. We didn’t have to ask for anything, & the food came out SUPER fast! I ordered the spicy salmon & crunchy sushirolls while my husband got bulgogi & pork gyoza. It was all superb and the best sushi we’ve had so far since moving to the north Austin/Pflugerville area! 5/5 stars and we look forward to becoming regulars!

First of all, The waitress and counter lady were very rude. The waitress “throw” the chopsticks and napkins on the table while we took the seat. Overall serving to customer were the worst that i had ever experienced and i was surprised they automatically add tips on our check 20% of total. I strongly do not recommend for those who would like to visit this place

Great quality with unique flavor combinations! We went here for the all-you-can-eat for a weekend dinner. The staff was polite and helpful, and the dining room was not too crowded so we could be seated right away. There is a patio, but it doesn’t look like they seat people out there. The fish and other ingredients all tasted really good! They have all the popular rolls as well as some unique creations. The only downside was the price, about $37 per person. We ordered 6 rolls and 4 individual sushi (nigiri), which my wife and I shared, and it was about the same price as just ordering individual items. The quality was great though, so perhaps you get what you pay for.

This place is great and the food is always amazing and the sushi is fresh! The owners are hands on always helping the servers when it gets busy and catering to every table's needs. We love coming here and it's definitely our favorite sushi place! Perfect for date nights and outings with our friends!

Took my son there for his birthday dinner. We had a wonderful meal. Our waiter was great, had us laughing and enjoying ourselves. It was a great night! The all-you- can-eat was an excellent value. Get the yabby roll, spicy tataki roll, and the pork bulgogi.

Sushi was really bad. Not refresh at all. Server was not friendly. Then I was told they were given me a deal by not charging me a left over fee on the sushi I could not choke down. This on Sunday afternoon. Really disappointing

Lived next to this place for years and never knew about it. It was a fantastic meal and experience for everyone in our group. Don't miss this place. Great Sushi, Ton Katsu Udon, Kalamari, and the Red Bean Ice Cream was love.

Never again. I just got my food and it took me exactly 5 minutes to get home. Shrimp tempora roll super soggy. Shrimp is cold. Not good at all.

The counter lady is not friendly. The tables are messy. The restaurant said it is because of under-staffing issue. Yes. The guests will experience the understaffed environment.

Not recommended, bad experience. If you need to eat buffet, She will emphasize that the ingredients are expensive, you can't order a lot, you can't waste, we will charge extra. The ingredients are not fresh, not what you need, We drove for half an hour and wasted Own time. Not friendly, waitress impatient.

Must have been an “off” night. We ordered sashimi and the salmon smelled fishy and tasted weird. One of the pieces of yellowtail was very dry. I think we were served some older sushi cuts but we didn’t get sick. The rolls and edamame appetizer were good.

My wife and I just had the worst experience we've ever had at a restaurant here last night! I've been to Tsukimi several times and had good experiences, but last night was next level bad. Basically, we asked if a certain appetizer was not spicy, to which our old man server said it was not spicy. It then came out to the table covered in chili sauce lol. We immediately pointed this out, and the older man decided this was time to aggressively argue with us while we sat at the table. I have an ulcer and simply can't eat spicy food. The server then got super mad, grabbed the appetizers of the table and stormed off. After that he decided to abandon our table, ignoring me when I asked for water. The pinnacle of this dumpster fire came when I went to the bathroom. Some older lady(manager/hostess?) and the old man server decided to roll over and yell at my wife while she was sitting at the table. I actually heard this from inside the bathroom. Apparently, they thought we had come in another time and complained about the food and not tipped - and elected to go off on my sweet wife. They were mistaken, we had never had an issue at this restaurant before, and always tipped over 20%. I would say stay far away from this toxic excuse for a restaurant!! A classless, trashy place!!!

The food is always delicious.
Try the chicken fried rice, scrumptious! Every sushi roll I've tried has been lovely.
The ice cream here is so delicious.

Rolls tasted pretty good, tempura was not very flavorful. Our waitress did not refill any of our waters, and there was a dead cricket in the middle or the floor. We had a bill of $77, they charged 20% gratuity on top of it automatically, and the receipt does not tell you that gratuity is applied. We were not given an itemized receipt and had to ask for it. It is not worth the money and we will not be returning.

Best fried rice I ever had. Spicy garlic edamame was great, too.
The waitstaff was efficient and got me my food quickly.
Nice interior.

Service was good and food was great. They should play a little louder music. There were only 2 other tables and the silence was a little awkward.

Decent price but you get what you pay for. The only thing that I found actually enjoyable were the gyoza teriyaki chicken and the mango ice cream. Everything else was either over cooked or just gross. Staff charged me for someone else’s order and had trouble trying to figure out how to resolve it.
