It's NOT fresh. The service was slow even though there were only 6 people, including us two, in the place. We got drinks relatively quickly, though they were out of the first 2 things that we ordered. Foreboding! Trying to order was was another thing. The sushi chef didn't even look at us and the waiter for all six people in the place was distracted or something. The sashimi deluxe was from a tray of precut fish. You would think that if there were 2 people dining that the sashimi platter would come with an even amount of each fish so the diners wouldn't have that awkwardness of "who's going to eat the last piece." Then today I find out that they have Happy Hour. We were not even offered a HH menu. The tiny pieces of eel tasted too sweet, almost like it had BBQ sauce on it. The most enjoyable thing consumed was the amaebi; a tiny bright spot in the meal. I really don't know how this place stays in business with so few patrons and lukewarm service. At least there was plenty of open parking and no wait to be seated. LOL

My only regret is not coming here sooner. My husband and I came in for the 1st time a few days ago for an early dinner. The atmosphere and lighting were nice and cozy. They appetizers were fresh and delicious along with all the rolls that we ordered. Also, our server Marley was awesome! Her good vibes really set the tone for the whole experience. We'll definitely be back! Everyone come and check it out. You'll be glad you did!

The employees are super sweet at this place, but my God…. These are the smallest thinnest pieces of sushi served in the City of Austin. In the sushi business, the fish is always cut to drape off of the Rice. The owners of this place have somehow instructed the sushi chefs to cut the rice smaller and then of course it does drape off that smaller Patti of rice. I just spent $42 on literally something that was a step above the grocery store. Now in fairness, it is fresh.

This place is close to my house and I have been here five times and every time I come here… I think…,I’m not coming back… It’s just ridiculous.

And I did tell the employees there that this was really not generous .., And they are super sweet sweat.

Young group of employees running the place the best they can. And the service is good, but the thinness of the sushi slices is not acceptable.

Went here to celebrate with a girlfriend. We were seated so quickly and the dining room is beautiful. Trinity was our server and was so friendly and helpful! She made great recommendations and got everything out so quickly. The sushi was so fresh and delicious. The cocktails are yummy, the matcha martini is to die for. The sushi boat for 3 is worth the price.

We have been customers since they first opened. Over the years we have become more and more disheartened. The food is always good, but they are pricier than other options in the area. The service has gone downhill. Before Covid it was very hit or miss, after Covid it’s been a consistent miss. The last time we were there it was a party of 7 at lunch, we were the only ones there at first and it took over two hours total. Not everyone had their drinks delivered so they were stuck with water. The food was ordered and delivered with reasonable time, however none of the food came out together, it came out in 3 separate trips. We never had our drinks refilled ( 3 other tables seated total, all 2 tops) and we were never checked on after that. Never offered dessert. We waited 45 minutes for our check to be delivered.

When it was I asked that the grat for 7 people be removed because the service was so bad, I asked that the drinks we never received be removed and the one app that never came. I asked that the check be split into 3 tickets, describing exactly what each person had. It took them another 20 minutes before they brought it to us, the grat was gone but all the drinks and app were still on there and they only split it into two checks. At that point 4 members of our party had to go so I told them I would pay for everyone and have them
Venmo me directly. The person who served us was very kind and I honestly think he was doing his best. I don’t know if he was new, wasn’t trained properly or was just burnt out, but it was the absolute worst experience we’ve ever had there.

Really sad because we have celebrated several birthdays and anniversaries there.
I have frequented solo, with my husband and with friends for lunch, late lunch and dinner so I have seen have experienced the atmosphere and service at all hours. I honestly don’t know how they stay open. There never seems to be more than 1-3 tables seated at a time. I do know that they have a pretty consistent pick-up or 3rd party pick up business, it must be what is carrying them. Unfortunately it was the last time for us. It used to be a shiny star, but is now sad, washed up and hopeless.

Stopped in at this sushi place as we were searching for a good HH. There is a limited HH menu so we ordered both on and off the menus.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nanami Sushi Bar & Grill; it was an incredible experience. As a sushi lover, I was blown away by the variety of sushi options available. The flavor of the fish in their sushi was nothing short of exceptional, with each piece bursting with intense and delicious flavors. Evidently, they used only the freshest ingredients, as every bite was a delightful explosion of taste. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, especially sushi, I highly recommend trying Nanami. I must mention that the prices are higher, but trust me. It's worth every penny.

Absolutely terrible. I’m pretty sure my fish was actually bad. I couldn’t eat it and it’s really hard to pinpoint what exactly went wrong but the temperature of my sushi was weird. Fish was slimy. The flavor was AWFUL!!! Even the miso just tasted salty. Like straight up seaweed water. The wasabi was not packaged separately so it was allllll over my sushi. And it wasn’t even good wasabi it looked visibly weird, almost like guacamole. Like what are you guys doing in that kitchen??

And this place was actually more expensive than a sushi spot around the corner that’s way better. I suggest you try Yanagi instead, the only reason I got Nanami was because yanagi was closed. Next time I’ll just starve! Uber was nice enough to refund me my food. Normally if I don’t like food, I just don’t order again, but this was so bad that I wanted to warn south Austin about it.

But it took almost 15 min for the waitress to come over and take our order. I ordered the Nanami Ramen which is probably the worst ramen I’ve had in my life. I think homemade Shin Ramen taste better than it. The Chashu meat tasted like frozen meat and not fresh at all. I would not come here again.

Don't risk raw here or avoid these items if you go! Gave us tummy troubles.
Food was always underwhelming but close by so I ordered a couple times until they were about 2.5 hours late with a delivery - that was awhile back and it could've been a glitch with the delivery app. Wanted to give them another shot, this time dining in -- Nope. The staff seemed like high schoolers and nice enough. Atmosphere felt like a sad disco with strange lighting and club music, our waitress commented on it too.
The one star is because both my partner and I had a bad reaction after eating there - like emergency IMODIUM. We ordered: water, mushroom soup (tasted like questionable butter water with raw mushrooms), eel roll (texture was off), Hamachi Carpaccio (had a bone), and "Yumi" salad (had a layer of tempura flakes dyed green). The effects started as soon as we got home :(
It's tough out there - at best, this place could use TLC. At worst they might revisit food safety. Maybe it was a bad batch or a bad Friday night, but I will not return.

Our experience with Nanami has always been very positive. We usually order food to be delivered. Our order is always correct and arrives in good condition (important for sushi rolls). Their teriyaki chicken bento box is a huge meal and delicious. The Lover's Roll, in particular, is good. Make sure you ask for a side of their spicy mayo.

This happened 15 mins ago btw. 11/13/2022 @ 7:32pm.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. I stood waiting for a table for about 7 minutes while a couple was seated before me. While waiting…the staff carried out an order and asked if I was waiting for an Uber eats order. I replied I was not an Uber eats driver, I was waiting to be seated so I could dine in. The host apologized (poor girl was so sweet) and sat me down. My fiancé showed up and sat down. We waited for about 10 minutes to be waited on so we put in our order, the waitress passing by us multiple times without greeting us. She finally came to greet us and at this point, we just wanted to eat and go because other tables were getting serviced quick. We sat there for about 30 mins until the host asked if we needed drinks, mind you, we had just put our order in (for drinks, apps & our meal with the waitress). When the young girl asked if we needed drinks, we had told her we placed our order with the waitress. When the host asked the waitress if she had gotten our drinks, the waiter (Holly OR Molly) responded with “That’s your table”. We honestly just left after that. So disappointing and we were looking forward to eating some sushi. I’m not sure if it was because we were brown or judged on our outfits. Just save your money and go else where. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT. Give your money to an establishment who welcomes everyone. 0/10 recommend.

This place needs work. 3 red flags within 10 minutes of being there. Tables were not clean. Utensils on the floor under our seats. Not hard to spot bright bamboo chopsticks on a dark floor. Then, soy sauce dishes were brought and filled TO THE BRIM by service staff before any food was ordered, or even drinks arrived. We were told this was standard practice, despite other tables having their own shoyu dispensers and allowed to use as much or as little as they wanted. We ordered the gyoza steamed and they were brought out deep fried, and that was the end of it. None of these things are huge deals, but in such a rapid succession- I didn't want to stick around to see how else they could disappoint. We paid for the gyoza, tipped and left. The gyoza were okay. We went to Yanagi on William Cannon and had some really excellent nigiri sushi. Nanami is likely great for the California Roll/Sake Bomb crowd, but not for us.

Save yourself (and your stomach) and go somewhere else.

We wanted to like it, my husband and I were both in the mood for sushi and ready to try something new. A mistake, it turns out.

He has been up with a bottle of Pepto the last three hours, and I'm beginning to feel queazy myself. The only thing new to our diet? This place.

The reviews about near-rotten and low quality sushi are not lying. The rice quality is about that of a box of grocery store sushi. I only wish I had read the warning reviews before ordering.

I have eaten at Nanami plenty over the last 5-10 years. Usually the food and service is a solid 4.5-5. This evening however every single piece of eel on my Dragon roll had multiple bones in it. This is definitely an issue that I haven't had before here. It was problematic enough to mention however. If I have never been here before I probably wouldn't come back which would be a shame as usually the sushi is very good.

I have tried many places around Austin and this was the first sushi was actually inedible. The spicy salmon roll was slimy, smelled insanely fishy, and was obviously on the verge of rotting. The philly roll was slightly better, but the fish was chewy and salty. The rock and roll avocado was brown and it looks like the shrimp was molding on the bottom. I attempted to eat it, but it was the worst, oldest tasting sushi I've ever had. Definitely getting a refund.

The food was alright. A little expensive for what you get. But honestly, the waitress kind of made it the worst part. I don't know if she has ever been a server before. I asked her what kind of beef the beef bento is, she just said "it's beef." Evidently, she doesn't know
how many types of beef and steak beef there are. On top of that, she was rushing to get me out of there. Every 10 minutes she would come try to take my soup bowl or bento tray. There would literally be food in it with me hovering over it. Then when I ordered something after my bento, she brought the check. Didn't ask about dessert or if I was done or anything. So I just left. And won't be going back.

This place is not premium enough to be charging over $2 PER PIECE of sushi. I gave them another chance after ordering their "calamari" a few months back which was essentially just fish sticks that genuinely looked like they came from a box at the grocery store. I will not be returning, which is a bummer because I live down the street and it's a convenient location.

We have never had a bad experience with the food here. It always tastes very fresh and is full of flavor. The drinks take a little bit of time to come out but they are always good as well.
You can have a very good dinner for two for between $50 - $75 depending on what you order. Would highly recommend!!

We ordered the Nanami ramen and were severely underwhelmed. They used spaghetti like noodles that seemed store bought, the broth was very watery for miso, the chasu wasn’t seared, and the egg was hard boiled instead of soft. The calamari was decent at best and the sushi was nothing to brag about. There are better options in downtown (as well as north) Austin.

I tried it once more after we went once a very long time ago when they first opened and we’re not impressed. It was even worse this time. $10 “Kani salad” that was not only the smallest of portions but just simply was some sliced cucumber and imitation crab and made at all like a traditional kani. But I was shocked at the size for $10. The baked avocado also was small and slapped together and a mess when I opened it. So an $11 avocado with imitation crab and Mayo. Then the yellow tail collar was flavorless and dry (so shocking because it’s difficult to do a collar poorly, it’s such a delicate tasty cut). When we went before we had the “hamachi rice” which was terrible. We love places like Eurasia, Kome, and Otoko is just incredible, and I don’t mind spending money on good food, but even spending $40 on a terrible meal is just not ok. If you can’t make the basic things right for just quick lunch, I can’t imagine the rest.

I had my birthday there several years ago and they were so wonderful that I decided to host my partners surprise birthday party there this last September. They were unbelievably accommodating. They put together seating for 16, setup a table for our gifts and cupcake tower, let us come early to decorate, and even played music that my partner likes.

On the food front, I highly recommend the boat for three (for two, haha) that is shown in the photo. That’s what my partner and I always have. So much good sushi. Delicious!

We had combo fried rice and spider rolls. I vote very good, the other person says just ok.

My fave local sushi place with great attention to detail and fresh, delicious food. I try to get lunch here at least once a month as the special bento box is an amazing value and so good! I get sashimi usually, it's a lot of food and I love it. Excellent sake selection too.

The food is so good! And the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Lunch time is a little less crowded so if for looking for a calm place to have a break in the middle of the day I highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere and quick food. The ice cream felt store bought, but everything else was great, have been there a couple times and would come again.

We were going here for date night planning to spend a few hundred. We were probably only 2 of 6 customers in the restaurant and we sat at the sushi bar.

It took about 20 minutes to get drinks which was fine, then they finally came back and we got edemame, which was great.

Then they never came back to order our food or check on is so after an hour we went to Uchi and spend 200$ at that fine establishment. Don't waste your time or money here. But they do have a cool saki botttle.

They're not the same recently and I don't like it. First couple of times was amazing and good portioned. Today was just sad. Very small rolls, noticeably smaller. Also ordered a baked Avocado for the first time and it's literally 1/2 a medium sized Avocado with crab meat (which is also a very cheap meat) for $10!! Ten bucks for half an Avocado!! What in the hell... disappointed this time around tbh.

My fiance's favorite date night! The price is unbelievably cheap for the quality, so go crazy! The carafe of sake is served in a VERY unique jug that you didn't know you need, and the sushi is always professional and fresh. Thank you chef!

Very attentive and friendly staff. We liked the fried calamari, they were a bit different than we are used to. I think they were not made from fresh squid.
The sushi was good but average, pretty price for the portion we got.

Nanami is one of my favorite sushi spots in Austin especially if your go to is Nigiri &/or Sashimi.

In the photo I got a mix of rolls & Nigiri tonight and both were great as usual.

When we dine-in we typically get the “Boat for 3” for four of us and the fish is super fresh & comes out at room temperature which is the way I/we like our Sashimi. I’ve been to places where the sashimi comes out super cold and you can tell it’s not fresh but at Nanami it’s always great.

Lastly, I typically don’t write detailed reviews on apps/websites but I believe Nanami deserves some love for helping me/others get through the pandemic by keeping their doors open

Additionally, the wait staff is very friendly and always on point.

This was my first visit back after a couple of years. I'm pleased to say that it exceeded my memory. The lobby is as clean and fresh as if it were newly opened. The staff was friendly and attentive, especially for a weekend. Now the best for last. The food has evolved to the next level. From the soup to the sashimi to the house sushi rolls, it was all fresh and delicious.

We ordered takeout for the ramen, tempura, don katsu, and ocean 7 sushi. All turned out to be tasty and great. I like the don katsu sauce very much. Very glad we have a decent sushi bar in the neighborhood.

A few more words about my experience: When I picked up my order, the ramen was not in the bags. I called them and they immediately decided to deliver the ramen to me. I was also confused about the ocean 7 sushi I received because of some outdated photos on Yelp (previously there were green roes on top and now the recipe is changed). They decided to give me another order of the sushi, which I am really thankful for. I am truly amazed by their customer obsession.

My sisters have been here before and praised it so we decided to door dash it and I was not happy with what I got. I paid $66 for this and one of the dishes didn’t even come how it should ‘ikura’. In the picture it’s just cucumber with salmon roe on top. Not worth the money I spent on this.

We Celebrated my Sons Birthday here tonight and had an exceptional time! Food was great, service was awesome, I mean over the moon. They made sure that he had a great day. I highly recommend Nanami to anyone that wants a great experience with amazing sushi, sashimi, and ask for Ryan and Allison. Jessica even came by and had fun with us all. Great experience and we will be coming back often!!

Dead on a Saturday night.
Staff gossiped loudly nearby about how one of them would be fired soon.
All our hot food was served scorching. The gyoza was lukewarm on the outside but when I bit into it, I seared half my mouth. Very painful even a day later. Took my ramen 20 minutes to cool down while constantly blowing on it. Sushi was mediocre. Ramen was bland. Definitely not worth $100 for two.

It has been two years since my last food review on Google.

Nanami has dredged me from the depths of my Covid complacency with food that was so awful that I felt it would have been a greater sin to remain silent.

Baked Avocado - This is the only reason I'm giving one star (and because Google won't let me give half). It was only "good" with a generous application of the theory of relativity when compared to everything else. Somehow Nanami has perfected the art of alchemy and managed to make an avocado taste like a sweet potato. I was both disgusted and impressed...impusted? Dispressed?

Saketoro - I've done better jobs of removing the skin from fish at home. One of the pieces had the consistency of snot. If I die, Nanami will be haunted by my ghost.

Angel Roll - My wife reported to me that the heaviest taste of this roll was the salty rice. Yet again I have to belligerently compliment Nanami on their mastery of alchemy and managing to make rice a dominant flavor in a roll that boasts sporting cream cheese and spicy mayo.

Tiger Roll - Again, the wife said the soy wrapper was the most dominant flavor among jalapenos, cream cheese, and smoked salmon. Nanami on a roll with all this transfiguration and removing flavor from things that normally have lots of it.

Black Pepper Steak - I actually have to genuinely compliment Nanami on this one. They didn't lie when they said it was "black pepper" steak. Pepper pepper pepper. So much pepper. Just all the pepper. Think of the most pepper you've ever eaten, then add more. Thank God for the rice to cut all that pepper on my medium rare pot roast meat and three broccoli florets that missed out on all that seasoning and cooking action. The florets were somewhat sweaty and barely cooked. I think they might've been sweaty from all the black pepper, because I know I got pretty moist.

Mochi Ice Cream - Not sure if Nanami performed alchemy or just gave us the wrong thing, but the ice cream tasted faintly of strawberries to me. The wife insisted I was crazy, as she tasted nothing but sweet cream. The problem is that we ordered red bean flavor - yet another strong flavor, gone.

Mango Juice - This one is just a lie, plain and simple. It was orange water that dreamt of being mango flavored.

Overall we spent almost $100 on all of this. We kept the leftovers. Not because they were good and we look forward to eating them again, but because we've already spent this much money to throw it away now.

I am angry that Nanami has my money.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

This restaurant doesn't even own one.

Gluten - Cross-contamination! These people seem careless.

I made a large order of sushi last night. I requested for most if the items to be gluten free and I requested that they packaged them separately from the gluten items since I am severely allergic to gluten.

The request was written on the digital ticket and the physical receipt we received. I am celiac so I cannot eat gluten for any circumstance. I spent the last 12 hours in severe pain because of this neglect.

The restaurant packaged the order where the gluten and non-gluten items were together in the same container. There was cross contamination with soy sauce (which had gluten) as well as tempura flakes had spread in both containers.

The sushi was also not fresh. (I am sure I’m not the only person who will complaint about this)

When I called the restaurant, they blamed the driver! I mean, what!?

The driver?

He didn’t packaged the food!?

Who are these people and how are they running a restaurant?
