I was excited to try high quality hand-rolls but very disappointed. Quality of fish, service, interior/atmosphere are not good enough for the price. Not even close. Do not order marinated shrimp. No chief but trainees. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The food was nothing short of incredible. The venue is small, but the wait was worth it. Evidently the rice takes two days to produce, and was worth the trip alone.

This place is a true 5 star dining experience! I seriously cannot get enough! I come every week and it never has disappointed me. They even gave me a free piece of nigiri on my last visit for my continued support. The staff, the food, the atmosphere—without a doubt the best sushi spot in Austin. Can’t wait to come back!

My new favorite Austin sushi spot! The fish quality is impeccable and better than the coast. Cost is very reasonable. Service is on point, attentive, and makes things right with the customers. I'll be back.

If you are used to traditional sushi/hand rolls, you would be disappointed here. The fish, outside of the salmon belly, was not fresh or properly prepared. One of our nigiri still had scales on it and the others practically had a seaweed salad on top. The staff was not aware of how to properly roll / prepare traditional hand rolls and sushi. The sushi rice was not true sushi rice. Even the edamame was taken out of the shells, blanched, and served in a dish like a bowl of peas.

The only positive was that the staff were very nice and accommodating.

This place was a great find. In the same area as the Home Depot off 620. Staff are friendly. Food is amazing. Not the typical rolls you get at sushi places. I was skeptical at first, but they are simple and delicious! Sashimi had large portion sizes. I was very pleased. Definitely a place to try if you are into sushi like me.

Five-Star Discovery!
On our drive to Lakeway, we serendipitously stumbled upon this culinary gem. "Superb" doesn't do justice to the unforgettable dining experience we had. The flavors, service, and warmth left me “almost” speechless – the kind of silence punctuated only by satisfied sighs and palate-pleasing 'ahhhs'. Worth the 40-minute drive from Georgetown, I'll be back – intentionally this time – craving another exceptional meal and the outstanding hospitality from the entire staff. Don't miss this hidden treasure! Make the trip, and taste the excellence for yourself.

Edited

I came back after going here 3 months ago. It was noticeably different. The amount of food is skimped on. My hand roll barely had any rice or fish in it compared to before. I drove 40 mins away to have lunch there. Very disappointed with the experience. The service was much slower as well. It’s challenging finding a good sushi spot that has fresh fish in Austin.

Sushi Experience №27

Went here 2 months ago and the food was so exceptional we returned a second time. This time it didn’t even feel like the same restaurant. The sushi staff was noticeably different, and as another reviewer mentioned, seemed like a training session on a Saturday evening. The fish tasted thawed and the proportion of fish to rice in the hand rolls was slimmer and incomplete. I felt like I could have saved the 45 min drive and learned to roll my own pieces at home.

Visited 5 months ago

Sushi Experience №28

unpleasantly surprised with my experience here.

the vibes seem rather inauthentic based on the type of people who were preparing and serving the sushi itself. it seemed like there was a group training session on how to prepare the food - happening during a friday night dinner hour - right in the middle of the preparation area (which is also the mistake of the seating/entire restaurant).

for a “hand roll” place you would think the handolls would be special, but the fish was literally icy in my hand rolls, while it seemed more effort and attention was put toward the nigiri pieces. very disappointed with that.

honestly would not recommend.

If you’re searching for true traditional sushi, this is your spot. The rice was absolutely out of this world delicious and warmed in high quality nest. Great service, tasty quality.
Their beverage menu may probably use an overview and the employees(aside from the hand roll chef) were visibly in a state of almost ‘fear’ of the head chef. That was a weird energy felt and seen.

Upon recommendations from several friends we decided to try Yuki. After waiting for 1 + hours we were seated around 9 pm. The malfunctioning sharpie to mark the menu should have been our first clue as we observed copious amounts of sushi being served to guests that had arrived after us. Since the servers ignored us we asked the sushi chef about order in Spanish. We were told that there was a misunderstanding??? We finally received a couple puny handrolls and sashimi that was freshly thawed. At that time it was 9:45 and the staff proceeded to deep clean the restaurant using Fabuloso, a highly noxious disinfectant completely masking any kind of smell or taste. We paid and escaped the fumes still hungry. All in all, it was a very disappointing and negative experience and not worth the hype.

I've been to YUKI twice now, and the experiences were like night and day.

The first time was incredible—the master chefs knew what they were doing, and everything was delicious. The nigiri was spot-on, with the perfect balance of rice and fish. You could tell it was made by someone who really knows their skills.

But last night was a different story. The nigiri just didn’t hit the same level of quality, and it didn’t take long to figure out why—the original chefs were replaced by some less experienced ones.

The difference was noticeable, and it really affected the overall experience.

It’s a bit disappointing because the place has potential, but consistency seems to be an issue. I’d be hesitant to go back, knowing that the sushi quality might be a toss-up depending on who’s behind the counter.

An interesting restaurant concept that left me slightly confused. If you want to be high end and classy, get rid of the multiple TV screens, the cheap paper napkins and the weird menu format with dry erase markers. Maybe play music that complements the vibe, rather than sad, depressing ballads. Teach your servers to not serve drinks with their hands all over the rim of the glass, and to interact with guests instead of just order-taking.
That said, the $7 clam miso soup was pretty good if not a bit sweet. The squid salad appetizer was ok, but I'm pretty sure it isn't made at the restaurant, as I've had that same salad at numerous restaurants.
We tried the ikura and salmon hand rolls, which I'd classify as rather basic. The ikura also had a sweetness, rather than saltiness. The salmon was solid, not exquisite.
This restaurant definitely delivers on its nigiri sushi, as the fish was clearly quite fresh, with giant slices atop seasoned rice. Several pieces had unnecessary garnishes that detracted from the flavor of the fish.
I was really excited to try this place, and while I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't blown away.
If you're charging this much for high quality fish, I would focus on developing a classier, more elegant, interactive guest experience.
Another oddity: the online menu offers a beautiful selection of original sushi rolls, but these are unavailable to dine-in guests.
I think I'll go back again to see if I l'm being too critical with this initial review.

I went to Yuki a few months back for my birthday and really enjoyed the food. The rolls were delicious and service was good.

Surprisingly outstanding. No tables, sushi bar-only. Their specialty is their hand rolls. But I only get the individual ala carte pieces which are VERY large works of art. I've had the same pieces day vs night prepared a bit differently. But outstanding. Toro, yellowtail, salmon all outstanding preparations with beautiful, very large cuts with unique sauces and delicate toppings. All three pieces were beautifully seared lightly with kitchen torches at dinner, but at lunch they were raw. Both preparations amazing. Honestly 3 pieces is a meal for me.
Parking sucks. Service is kinda moot, you check off what you want with dry-erase market on a laminated menu. Sushi chefs working in front of you serve. Oh ... The nori! Wow. Only time I commented to my wife about nori other than Nobu.

Seems like Handrolls Bars/Restaurants are popping up everything in the States. Luckily, Yuki did not disappoint. The fish is fresh and quality. We ordered Toro, Salmon, Lobster, Yellowtail, Crab handrolls, and also the daily special sashimi. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, decent service and is reasonably priced. Great sushi bar with really fresh fish! It’s one big sushi counter and they don’t take reservations so we just walked in and found 2 seats at the bar . The only thing that was weird is that they were making some amazing looking rolls but you’re not allowed to order those in the restaurant. They are for to go orders only. Kinda torture to watch it and not be able to order them, except for TOGO. One other tip, the sushi pieces are big so order conservatively. Loved it!! Will be back!!!

Every time we tried ordering sake, our server seemed confused and told us they were out of each one we requested. Most restaurants would offer a refund, an apology, or some form of consolation for long waits or mistaken orders, but we received nothing. For the price we were paying, we expected much better service. This place was overly hyped for sure.

The menu was unclear, and for a handroll specialty place, the handrolls were too full of mayo, which I wouldn’t have wanted had the server been able to steer me in the right direction. I would suggest choosing nigiri over the handrolls. Additionally, the chefs noticeably lacked proper hygiene practices, which was concerning since we could watch their preparation. As someone who works in customer service, I know what to expect and the level of treatment I should receive.

I was excited to try this restaurant after hearing Joe Rogan and other bloggers rave about it. I thought a Tuesday night visit would be perfect to avoid the crowds and have a great experience. Unfortunately, I was severely mistaken and deeply disappointed.
From the moment we were seated, things went downhill. The plates were greasy, our table had leftover food, and the water glass brought to me had visible lipstick stains. Our server, Karen (I believe), was unfriendly and unhelpful every time we had a question, despite our politeness. Shockingly, she admitted she didn’t know what any of the dishes tasted like.
Karen forgot both our miso soups and our cheesecakes. Additionally, she made errors entering our order, resulting in 2-3 incorrect items, yet we were blamed for the mistakes. She said that were marked it on our menu incorrectly. It seemed the servers were overwhelmed, juggling hosting duties, cleaning tables, and taking phone orders, which left us neglected. Our water was never refilled, and not a single staff member thanked us as we left.
The food itself was mediocre at best and did not justify the high prices. Despite there being a lot of kitchen staff visible, our wait for the food was excessively long, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t busy. The large portion sizes did nothing to improve the lackluster taste. The atmosphere and music were off, contributing to an overall unpleasant experience.
In summary, I won’t be coming back here. The poor service, uncleanliness, and subpar food make this restaurant a complete miss.

From my two visits I've noticed how poorly managed this restaurant is. I was hoping it was an off day the first time, but the service was severely lacking. On both visits I noticed the chefs berating multiple servers in front of everyone. While the servers are mostly unknowledgeable and unprepared, I don't blame them. One of them told me they aren't allowed to try the food or receive discounts. The plates were also extremely greasy and still had food on it

My friend and I really enjoyed lunch at Yuki. It's really a cute place. Most of the seats surround the sushi bar which is almost like dinner and a show! The servers and sushi makers were friendly and helpful throughout our entire meal.

Just a heads up, they make sushi rolls but they are for to-go orders only. The dine-in menu features nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, and a few appetizers. We split two hand rolls (tuna and yellowtail belly) and then had several different nigiris including scallop, sweet shrimp, marinated shrimp, madai, and tuna. I was super impressed with the nigiri. The seafood had great color and texture and tasted super fresh. The handrolls were constructed nicely.

I can also recommend the matcha green tea as a great lunch beverage.

It's not the cheapest sushi place, but I'm happy paying for the quality of food I received. I look forward to going back.

Okay Austin friends; this place is a real game changer. Rice, fish, nori; basic ingredients in any sushi dish. I don't say this lightly when I say Chefs Jun and Lim have redifined the Austin Sushi game. The Green Tea Rice as a primary ingredient is not only a stroke of brilliance but a new expansion on the Sushi genre. My pics won't do the place justice. What I love about Yuki Handroll Bar is how they make pieces of art that taste good as much as they look; YOU WON'T FIND SUSHI LIKE THIS IN OTHER AUSTIN RESTAURANTS; believe me, I've lurked. I love that this place HAS PARKING and is open to walk ins. The bar itself is small, but cozy and inviting to a small party, or even solo. Check it as your next sushi stop!

Priced well enough but the rice is very weird and there’s no warning about it anywhere. It’s flavored with matcha or something and as a result everything has a really sweet taste to it. Seems like it should be optional or used for specific things because it gets kind of annoying. Rolls could stand a little texture from cucumber/carrot, etc.

If you go definitely go for the nigiri vs the hand roll.

The hand roll doesn’t have much to it, just rice and your choice of chopped fish.

The nigiri is delicately cut fish and dressed with small specialties that give the fish a little umph.

The rice is a little sweet because they don’t use the traditional rice. So they don’t have a nigiri or hand roll that is savory.

The flavors aren’t balanced because there’s a lot of rice or a lot of fish - and the rice is too overpowering with its sweetness.

Overall I do recommend for the price and ambiance.

Got overhyped possibly for this one, we left disappointed by the quality. It was good but we were expecting more for the high price they are setting themselves for.

The scallop handroll, barely had any scallop and they were chopped. So really couldn't tell the difference between mayo rice or scallop bits.
The toro and chu toro hand roll were also quite disappointing in the consistency. One had nearly half the amount of fish than the other...
The sweet shrimp was the but one of the shrimp was borderline mushy, which makes me question the freshness.
Salmon Belly roll and Madai were the worse in term of fish/rice ratio.
Yuzu cheese cake barely had yuzu flavor.

They wouldn't even let me have a salmon / avocado roll -- they will only make rolls with one ingredient + rice, so you can only have a salmon roll and a separate avocado roll. The menu is quite boring and the people eating there only chose the restaurant because The Grove had too long a wait.

Really fantastic place and vibe. The miso with clams was very nice. Tried about half the hand rolls which were all great. The only thing I didn’t absolutely love was the nato. It was fine but had hoped for something with a stronger homemade taste. It tasted like average packaged nato. Not bad but everything else on the menu overshadowed it. I didn’t really want desert but my daughter did so we got the green tea cheesecake which was delightful. Glad she talked me into it. If I could do half stars I’d rank it a 4.5/5. Excellent spot. A little pricy but worth it IMO.

Arguably best sushi I’ve had in Austin. Coastal quality, competitive w uchi or sushi bar—omakase quality fish but in a relaxed and unpretentious environment. Absolute gem.

The only handroll bar I know in ATX and my favorite. Kazunori has no chance, love this place. Nigiri/sushi just as good as their handrolls.

The best hand roll bar out there. The food was crazy amazing — the sushi MELTS in your mouth. The hand roll experience is so much fun! The chefs are so sweet and experienced. Lots of parking available as it is in a plaza. 10/10 recommend ✨

My family and I visited Yuki with our party of 6. We planned ahead and arrived early (around 5 pm) to get the corner of the bar so we could seat 3 and 3, and chat comfortably. We were successful! We absolutely LOVED everything about Yuki. Firstly, the service was amazing. The servers were cheery, helpful, and kind. Our server knew the menu well and made fabulous recommendations. He was also very joyous and had a happy energy to him. Secondly, the atmosphere was lovely. They played pop songs that my siblings and I enjoyed. The seating is always a challenge at a hand roll bar, but because we had the corner, the seating worked well for us. Finally, the food was delicious. I ordered based off the servers recommendations, and the eel (which they recommended) was fantastic. The size of the fish for nigiri and sashimi was large, which I appreciated. There was so much thought and effort going into how the fish was prepared, and it didn’t go unnoticed. Overall, we loved Yuki and can’t wait to return.

The atmosphere and the service was great, and most of all, everything was so delicious. Every sushi was so fresh and tasty. And the hand rolls were great food for children to eat. It feels like a treasure hunt to get to know a nice restaurant. It's a little far from my house, but this place is well worth the long driving. So we will be back for sure!

Prices rather steep for what you get. Similar restaurants in NYC and LA like well known Kazu Nori are offering 6 rolls for $28. It's $35 at Yuki for similar if not less fulfilling meal . Rice could be warmer.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Yuki Hand Roll. Today was my second time back, and I must say, the experience has been outstanding in every way.
The handrolls were incredibly fresh and expertly crafted, a testament to the skill of the chefs. The variety of fillings and flavors was delightful, catering to every palate. The ambiance was inviting, with attentive and friendly staff who made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Pricing was affordable, good decent size fish and I was comfortably full with their handroll set. I also got to dine in and served by the same chef twice, and quality/experience have been consistent with both times.
I can't wait to return and savor more of their delectable handrolls. Highly recommend!

Came into Yuki Handrolls today expecting a great experience. All I was met with was slow service and chefs that just stare at you blankly. They don’t let you change out a handroll even if you are allergic. The handrolls are so small for 7-15$. Prices are crazy even with inflation especially for the quality of the fish.

Uroko is so much better quality. The quality of fish at yuki was very low and a strong fish taste. Won’t be back here again. Huge disappointment.

Skip this place if you can! Dishonest staff! The chef went helping out an order to go customer in the middle of our second course of our 5 courses combo roll. His helper took over, but he screwed up our order and repeat the first roll, which is crabmeat instead of lobster meat! Bad experience!

Love this sushi place!

Ambiance: it's a very classic take on sushi restaurant so you get to watch the chefs make your food as you sit around the circular bar. They have a menu with a dry erase marker for each seat and the waitstaff are great.

Drink: Their sake and wine selection is great, can get bottle or by the glass.

Food: they make high quality, delicious sushi (nigiri, hand rolls, and sashimi.) The clam miso soup is also SO good, so don't skip it. The chefs are really delicate in how they handle the fish, the rice is perfectly seasoned, and the finishing touches for each piece are unique.

The sushi and hand rolls at YUKI were nothing short of a sensory masterpiece. The ambiance is delightful, with a cozy and immaculate setting, and the chef personally crafts and serves each piece. I've explored numerous sushi establishments in Austin, but none have matched the freshness and delectability of YUKI. When dining here with your loved ones, you can expect to be moved beyond your expectations. I eagerly anticipate the day I can return.

It's a decent place with very good service. Unfortunately, out of the 6 handrolls I tasted, 2 of them had connective tissues I couldn't chew through. I may be biased, though. Once you've had Chef Mike's tuna handroll with toasted seaweed from Tsuke Edomae, everything else seems subpar.

We were very excited to try a new Sushi bar in our neighborhood. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly.
However, the food was very disappointing for all of us. I ordered 3 hand rolls, Unagi, Ikura and yellowtail. I expected the Unagi to be a little sweet but it tasted like honey and rice, Yucks ! Then I got the Ikura and I was expecting more of an oceanic taste but it was again jam and rice, Yucks! The yellowtail was not better it was again too too sweet, Yucks!
If I wanted desserts for dinner, I would have just bought a cake.
As someone who has work in Japan, I can tell that was NO taste of Japan.
YUKI = YUCKY 🤮

YUKI was a great stop for sushi. The bar top setup with the chef in the center was a nice experience.

All of the food was extremely fresh and delicious. The rice was incredible and really made every piece of sushi great. They used fresh veggies and fish while also making each piece to order so it was never out on the countertop long.

The co-owner is very invested in his business and asked for feedback after the meal. He and the staff were all polite and very attentive.

I will definitely be back and will recommend everyone give YUKI a chance if you are in the mood for sushi.
