Cool little neighborhood spot with amazing sushi, scratch noodle dishes, small plates & full bar. Karaoke and live music after hours. Check Insta.
Had a grand time visiting. Had this place on the to-do list for months, finally had a chance to visit. Reserved a table via the app and that process was flawless. We chose inside seating but there was tables outside available as well. The table was a bit close to the wall and I hit my chopsticks on it a few times before moving it out slightly. Lighting was also a little awkward for photos but otherwise pleasant. Came in during happy hour and got a bunch of food for a lot less than expected. We did ordering a little at a time and our server Dani was very patient with us. Overall, great experience.
Appetizers:
Mushu Egg Rolls - on point. Captured the mushu pork essence perfectly but way less messy to eat. Was not sure if the garnish was for anything, did not add to the plate.
Crab Rangoon - tasty take with pimento cheese. Sauce was excellent.
Kimchi - good and fresh
Maki: good flavor combinations only downside was nori was consistently chewy, like it's sat out and absorbed too much moisture. Most were true to what you'd expect on flavor from description.
Californication - 👍
Nate Gifford is punk af - 👍👍 no sauce needed. The bacon and scorched jalapeno were fantastic elements.
We got the hamachi and spicy tuna at the same time and that was a happy accident. They go really well together. Good texture and fish to rice ratio.
I tend to judge sushi places on their Unagi and Salmon so I had to try them here.
Unagi Nigiri - over roasted. The piece I had was burnt and tougher than expected 👎🏼
Sashimi: Salmon - good, not the cut style I like but was tasty. Salmon Belly - same on the cut but was more enjoyable because of the expectation of its buttery nature.
Dessert: Ginger Crème brûlée - very tasty, once you get past the overly burnt bits. The caramelization on the edges were a good addition to flavor and texture. The custard was creamy and had a wonderful flavor. I contemplated licking the bowl but was really too full to make that effort.
Definitively recommend. It was a great experience with good food and great service.

The rolls here were phenomenal. My favorite was the Nate Gifford and then the Peruvian. The Nate is one I'll be thinking about for quite a while. Also, the fried cauliflower...delish! Our server Lulu was very sweet. Wish this place were closer, they have a great happy hour special!

Easily has become one of my favorite places in Nashville. Fantastic food, great house inspired cocktails. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting. The bartender Lulu is equally enjoyable as the restaurant. Lulu made sure we had great service and a wonderful experience as our host for the lunch that turned into shutting the place down. Great time. Highly recommended

Their happy hour is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My husband and I shared four rolls - all phenomenal and truly special. From the quality of the ingredients to the unique twists for each roll, we loved it all. The staff was friendly and quick. Plus, as an added bonus, Punk Wok is by a ton of other stores you can checkout when you leave!

Update! They have a new cocktail menu! Do try some of them as the new mixologist has made them work well with the sushi!
So, I love the servers here, and every time there is salmon belly left we will have a great time. Everyone who works here is great.
The other people surrounding you, on the other hand range from cheap assholes on their first date being unreasonably loud (and cheap) instead of eating, as well as a family of massive complainers who get angry when a family who knows what they want and order immediately get their order first! Oh, the humanity!
This is raw fish, people! If I sit down and order the seaweed salad and salmon belly before I even ask for water YOU BETCHA it's going to be delivered to our table before your fried noodles and seriously complicated layered roll.
Stop treating your servers poorly, annoying family #15, please.
The one thing that I don't like, and I know I've told them here, is that classic tumblr drinks should not be served with basically chipped ice.
That's a sin.
So, to avoid this issue, pursue the lengthy list of sake available, the wine and beer options, and maybe try some neat imported Japanese whiskey (without ice) instead.
Also, always ask if they have salmon belly left.

This was our first time trying Punk Wok out. The parking was very accessible and a short walk. We loved the area, the vibe, the service was wonderful, and everything came out so quick. The sushi was tasty and everything had a bit of heat to it. The Lo Mein was fresh and tasted like homemade noodles, it had a nice ginger zing added to it unlike any kind we've ever tried before.
*we dug in before getting a photo so some of the pictures were bigger servings and the plating was a bit nicer than in the photo*

Stopped by punk wok and loved it! We referred by our hotel attendant. Very good food, very good drinks and very chill atmosphere. Our server Dani was great! Brussel sprouts really good! My fave drink was the sabai. The dumplings really good as well as the Peruvian roll! Will return to punk wok.

The sushi was pretty fine but we came in for happy hour (runs until 6) and ordered our rolls prior to 6pm. We were with a 7 person group and our checks were completely mixed up. Trying to make it easier on our server we said to put it on 1 and we’d figure it out ourselves later. We didn’t receive happy hour pricing and basically got charged double. Don’t feel any immediate need to return for overpriced rolls.

The food is excellent, but the service is consistently disappointing. I've visited several times, and on half of those occasions, I've been overlooked by the staff. Once, they even gave us a hard time about sitting at a four-top table in the shade, despite having a reservation for four and being three people. While the food shines, the front-of-house team seriously needs improvement.

One star was the only option, but that’s too high a rating for a restaurant that has curse words and sexual innuendos on their menu. Clearly a restaurant trying to be edgy and toe the line of what is acceptable. Great way to lose business.

The atmosphere is very nice here. When I went it was really busy, I’m not sure if it was because of burger week or if this is normal, but to be safe get a reservation for more than 2. It’s open seating at the bar and sushi counter.
The burger week burger was pretty good. I wish the interesting flavors included were more prominent, like the kimchi. Their crab Rangoon was amazing, they use real crab and they were cooked perfectly.
The service was slow. My water was empty about halfway through my meal and never refilled. I think they were short staffed at the time.
I would give it another try based on the quality of the crab Rangoon.

Probably one of the most overpriced and underwhelming experiences I’ve had in Nashville to date. Even their spicy tuna rolls are expensive. The signature roll we ordered was pretty fishy and the chicken dish was bland. Spent over $60 for both and a miso soup. I can think of several places with better quality and prices. Service and atmosphere were fine
Edit: Wow. the owner is accusing me of opening an account just to post this - you can CLEARLY tell by my review history that this account has been utilized for close to a decade. I think your resistance to critical feedback is probably why your restaurant is subpar. Best of luck to you!

Went to Punk Wok to support my friend who was playing a show there. Got dinner in the restaurant beforehand. The food was double the price it should've been and mediocre in flavor. I let it slide and had a few drinks in preparation for the show. Then came the reason for my abysmal rating. The sound technician was incredibly unprofessional and unqualified. Came in carrying a tangled ball of cables and I knew I was in for a trainwreck. Not only did the show start an hour late, but the sound person had no clue what they were doing at any step of the process. You could not understand a single word the lead singer was saying bc apparently the concept of basic eq is beyond his understanding. This caused the vocal to be quieter than the conversation at the table next to me and disastrously muddy along with the backing tracks being inaudible as well. During soundcheck he stepped out into the "crowd" twice to pretend like he was checking what he was doing and made no adjustments after. Then the show started and he immediately fled to the bar to pat himself on the back and drink a beer. As a working audio engineer here in town, this brazenly unprofessional behavior infuriated me beyond belief. I could not stay for more than two songs before I had to leave. The restaurant is not designed to be a music venue and their staff are woefully unprepared to execute on providing live music as a service. I've been to some less than fantastic shows before, but never have I been so insulted by proxy to what I witnessed there. It's disrespectful to the artists they book and the concert goers that attend. If you're there for music, do not see a show there til they hire someone who knows what they're doing. If you're there for food, just go literally anywhere else for something more deserving of the price. There's nothing at all punk rock about Punk Wok and they should be ashamed.

After dinner at another restaurant, my friends and I (all African American) came in for a drink bc we heard they had a rare whiskey. Upon entering, no one spoke. We were standing at the bar which had seats. And then the man photographed decided to loudly announce several times “this is a restaurant not a standing bar”. Without asking us anything else, the bartender loudly declared the same thing. If any of them had taken the time to acknowledge us prior to that— they would have known that we came in with a purpose and only wanted our drinks and to leave. We weren’t trying to hang out. The only person who wasn’t rude was the only African American staff person… I’ve never written a review like this before. I’m usually super positive about things. But this was beyond rude. My husband actually left and waited outside refusing to patronize a place that treated us this way. I kinda wish I had followed suit.

We went to Punk Wok last night for a group meal. We were delighted with our experience as our waiter was so attentive, had amazing recommendations, and made us feel incredibly welcome even though we stayed past closing hour. The sushi was top notch, the hot sake comforting, and the Brussel sprouts to die for. 10/10 experience. Thanks Punk Wok!

Just the right balance of small neighborhood cafe/bar vibe combined with quality sushi + related dishes. Japanese food options in the Nashville zone vary widely in quality - but Punk Wok is my new home for sushi. Try their special rolls. I've been half a dozen times now and everything tastes great.

The atmosphere is great, and the food is good, but the prices are way over priced for the quality, and the presentation for pretty sub par for a sushi restaurant, especially for this price.
I think they either need to up the presentation, lower the prices, or increase the quality of the dishes.
The best dish was the dumplings, but 12 dollars for 4 was a bit much for an appetizer.

We walked in on a Sunday evening and the vibes were immediately off , we asked for a table for 3 and were then asked if we had reservations ; the place was basically empty. We ordered the sweet and spicy masala wok bowl and a the real deal California sushi and we were highly dissatisfied. The price was insane for a dish that was full of rice and little chicken. The bowl didn’t even include everything it said it would. The crab meat was rotten in the sushi . We are avid sushi eaters and , never in my life have I tasted something so pungent. They took the sushi immediately and didn’t come back for 10-15 minutes to offer something else after telling us that their chefs tasted it and it was fine . Highly disappointed and will not be returning!
After looking at the owners response to his poor reviews Im upset I even spent money here!!

Ok this is a weird review…. This place has literally the best raw Salmon, Tuna and Hamachi in all of Nashville but they have no idea what to do with it. Come here between 3-6 for half price sushi and order nothing but those three fish in nigiri or sashimi form and it’s great.THE MAKI IS TERRIBLE! They are the most poorly designed rolls ever; we have tried every single one of them amongst 4 avid sushi eaters and literally all of us have disliked every single roll. Even the sushi rice is hit or miss totally under cooked one time and great the next, did get piece of bone in the fish too from being poorly cut. They have all the ingredients to easily be the best sushi place in town. Hire a real sushi chef and become the sushi icon you should be!

Few vegetarian options ... Not really many vegetables at all. If it were called, "Punk Sushi" I wouldn't have been surprised by the menu... but I assumed you might find at least a broccoli something in a "Wok."
Beyond the menu, I'll add the service was less personal than the cost implies. I asked the waiter's advice on how to compose a fleshless meal from their menu, and since the only options were appetizers... My food shows up quite a time sooner than my companion's, which was very awkward. Seems like as long as we spoke about it, he could have served it like a real dinner. Oddly, a 10 minutes after I got my food, but before anyone else was served, I caught the waiter to remind him I'd ordered a drink, and he said, "They're working on it," and then showed up with a can for me pretty quick. What were "they working on?"
Considering the extremely hostile response I've received from this review, I will concede: "You're correct, pickles and beer are vegetarian. Maybe you should try running a BBQ truck at a stock car race." I just reduced your rating, for your trashy language.

The presentation of the food and the service was spectacular. However, the taste was not. I'll start with the iceberg salad, which contained those awful bitter bits from the middle of the bulb close to the root. I thought about saying something but I didn't have time. Out comes the main course. I was delighted with the presentation, but that's where it ended. The salmon was bland as there wasn't enough orange sauce to add flavor to the fish or the food underneath. The soy sauce was of no help. The server managed to get me a tiny tray of the sauce, but it was no help. I meandered through my meal and left.

Mai Tai
Dumplings
Chef's Special Roll
Nate Gifford is punk AF Roll
Thai Fried Rice
Chicken Fried Rice
Cumin Lamb Noodles
What's making me itch to come back? Thai Fried Rice. Nate Gifford Roll. The intimate environment. And the service.
Final note, I want to shoutout the team for kindly changing my main to Chicken Fried Rice. I did not like the Lamb Noodles. The pasta to other ingredients ratio leaned too heavy on the pasta side for me. However, the noodles were expertly hand made. If you are a pasta lover this dish is for you.

Did not care too much for the dish I ordered (a little bitter) and restaurant doesn't have some thing's generally available at oriental cuisine restaurants like egg tools, hot mustard. The waiter was kind but a little too busy with side duties check back often. The atmosphere was quaint, clean and quiet but you Abe to park in a scan and pay lot and walk a bit to get to entrance. Parking is free if you stay less than two hours. I might try again if it weren't for the parking and I always want an egg roll with Chinese so probably not.

Sadly I have to have to alter my original 5 star review but it feels necessary…
My first visit to Punk Wok last week was so good that we couldn’t wait to return (original review is below). So we came back tonight and wow it was was a totally different experience. Our server made us feel entirely unwelcome & was very rude to us. Any time we asked for anything he’d say ok then shoot us a nasty look. Maybe he was just having a bad day or something but man…bad service really does ruin your meal AND your mood.
Also the wine glasses smelled like mildew

This was our second time at Punk Wok. The first time we came by, it was for burger week and as we walked through the door we were informed that we would need to be in and out within 45 minutes to accommodate reservations. We didn't think much of it because it made total sense. The burger was awesome and convinced us to come back and try out some of the other offerings. Tonight was our four year anniversary and when we made the reservations, we made sure to make note of that. As we walked through the door we were greeted by the same host (blond hair, glasses) who informed us that our table was double booked and we would need to be gone by 7:30. Now, I do understand wanting to take care of every single guest but if I have a reservation, I expect to be sat without a disclaimer, especially on a special occasion like an anniversary. Now here's the funny part; if you're going to rush your customers you need to make sure your kitchen can handle the heat. We ordered two sushi rolls within 15 minutes of our arrival and noticed the sushi station seemed pretty busy. No big deal. About 30 minutes pass and our server has barely checked on us. When she finally had a minute she ran by our table where we had to stop her in her tracks to order our entrees (we had every intention of doing the sushi first, but after nearly 45 minutes of waiting we were starved) the food came out after another 15 minutes, followed by our sushi. The beef lo mean was very bland and the sushi rice was basically mush and made the sushi its self a texture nightmare. I ended up leaving just about as hungry as I walked in and absolutely livid. We've been searching for a great date night place and this is the opposite of that. Save your money, get the burger to go. Or better yet, take your money somewhere that respects their customers and their time.

Ate here a few days ago and everything was great. I have been thinking about the pho meatballs since.

Nashville is sleeping on this place. I was blown away by how much thought was put into this menu. Great for large groups and sharables. Anyone who is giving less than 5 stars is mistaken.

I ordered the Nate Gifford roll and crab rangoon. Both were delicious, so I decided to give the strawberry shortcake dessert a shot. It didn’t disappoint. The bartender, Calvin, was very personable which made for a pleasant experience. I’ll be back.

We showed up at 7pm and were sat at the bar- the bartender gave us menus, and never even took our drink orders. We were sitting right in front of him and he ignored us for 30 minutes before we decided to leave.

Great place for some of the best tasting sushi I have ever had. I cam across this on accident and it was so worth every bit. If you want great staff I had Erin she was extremely knowledgeable about her products and want amazing sushi try this place.

We had the best experience dining at your restaurant! Everything was so delicious and served in such a timely matter! Punk Wok will be our first place to make reservations when we come back to Nashville!

Hands down the best sushi in Nashville. The staff is always fantastic and friendly, the chef specials are always creative and fun. Menu is always evolving and their Asian entrees are some of the best Asian cuisine in town. We recommend this place to everyone we can because it’s really hard to beat the food and atmosphere.

I dined here for the first time and was pretty underwhelmed.
The decor and the energy was really vibrant—definitely a great atmosphere.
The service was spotty. Our server took my drink order, but then never came back to take my friend’s order. We had to flag her down nearly 20 minutes later.
The food was bland. I enjoyed the crab rangoons, but wish they had more filling. The Dan Dan noodles lacked flavor and body. Overall, I was really excited to try this restaurant, but was disappointed in both food quality and the service.
There are a few parking lots nearby and they offer two hours for free via ParkMobile.

By far one of the (if not only) best sushi spots in Nashville! I learned about this place from a local Chef saying it was his favorite spot. - You know it must be good if a chef says so - ...So I went for the first time a few months after they first opened and now over a year later the quality is still great! Coming from the west coast I was skeptical about sushi in the south since we are land-locked, but Punk Wok surpassed my expectations. I've now been multiple times and everything is great! I had the salmon avocado roll, edamame, and a noodle dish.

We were sitting at home this week, and we were craving sushi, so we googled for new places. We had never been, but was SO glad we decided to stop by. Sooooo so so good. The shumai, spicy tuna roll, and beef lo mein were incredible. The beef lo mein was definitely my favorite though! I wanted to go back the next day for more. Safe to say we will be back again already this weekend!! Great service, and ambiance too.

Unimpressed. I was at another restaurant in the same area and saw Punk Wok’s sign about happy hour half off sushi. I went in and asked what was in the veggie rolls. I was told “the chef’s choice of assorted veggies” - seems fine. I tell the hostess the sign caught my attention for half off sushi and I ordered veggie rolls to go. She helps me process the transaction. She brings me back the receipt and I ask if the half off was taken off and she told me that it is only for eat-in. Totally fair, but the point to tell me that was when I told her that’s what brought me in. Again, that’s fine, I’ll still enjoy the sushi. She brings it out eventually (15-20 minute wait) and I take it to go. I open the container and it’s the tiniest rolls I’ve seen and the “assorted veggies” are cucumbers. The rice is mediocre and the seaweed is not good. I was so annoyed by the layers of disappointment. Any one of the pieces would have been fine, but the combo of lame food and lame service makes me not recommend this spot. Like just get grocery store rolls instead.

I'm glad we chose Punk Wok to eat on Saturday night. Although we don't typically sit at the bar, we found it comfortable and roomy. The bartender/waitress was fantastic, nice, and knowledgeable. We ordered a few things, pictured. Will definitely return here and try some of the other options.

Extremely horrible customer service, came in with a group of 5, had reservations and the place was pretty dead. We didn't want to sit on the high top the sat us at because it was not comfortable and there was bright fluorescent lights shining in the eyes of half the table only to be met with some of the rudest looks and attitude that I have ever experienced at a restaurant. The young lady working clearly does not have ANY customer service skills what's so ever.
We were moved to a pretty comfy spot after being asked what was wrong with our table (not asked politely or I wouldn't have cared about giving feedback) and we started to look over the menu. It took an awfully long time to get our first order in but when we did finally we tried the Sashimi (tuna and salmon, sadly they were out of the salmon belly for the night), the crab rangoons, some rolls & the pickled veggies.
Food review: the quality of the fish was good, little thicker of a cut than I am use to on the Sashimi but was still good. Pickled veggies, if you like variety is great. I'm a pickled veggie type of person so I enjoyed them. The sushi was good, my friends played their roulette game which was fun and the crab rangoons were tasty. They are not like your typical ones though they are like a fancy version, just a heads up. We tried some other things as well but overall food was good.
The food being good does not outweigh the rudness or the little bugs flying around. Will not be back.

Bland chicken fried rice, Dan Dan noodles had an odd lemon/citrusy taste 😖 AND when asked if were happy with our meals and i mentioned we weren’t the response was “is this on one check?” Not once were we offered a refill, not to mention it was a little pricey.
We saw someone come from the back with a bunch of drinking glasses and place them on top of the trash can until he had room to get to the bar to stock it. 🤢Potted Meat sandwiches would have been better than what we were served and a hell of a lot cheaper

Clay and Brandy were so helpful when I needed a new print out of my recipet for a business trip that I took to Nashville. They gave me the best customer service by quickly responding to my call. The food at Punk Wok was amazing and tasty! I had the Blink 182, Cali Maki and the Chef’s Special Maki. All of the sushi was fresh and delicious.

Sushi was good, but service was poor and so was their chef special. It tasted disgusting and we sent it back & tried to order something new only to hv some bald guy come from the back to yell at us that nothing was wrong with the dish. Way too many other better Asian fusion places for me to ever visit this place again.

Had a great lunch here yesterday. The Dan Dan Noodles and Korean Bulgogi waffle fries were delicious. We say the fish monger cutting a beautiful tuna loin and commented to him how good it looked. A few minutes later he came to the table: "Would you like to sample the loin?" and brought over a free tasting. It was awesome! They have an excellent bourbon selection, BTW. We'll definitely be back for dinner.

Erinn, aka manager. We have not heard back after emailing you, so I'll post it here.
My wife and I came to eat to celebrate an anniversary on Dec 7th. She's been looking forward to eating at Punk Wok for months. Unfortunately, our dining experience was very unpleasant. The food we ordered was just not very good. Infact, the sushi was stale tasting, the pork fried rice was overcooked and bland, and the fried cauliflower was spoiled because the oil from the frier was old and dirty. I did not want to make the experience worse by asking for the manager. My wife gets very uncomfortable with those situations and we just wanted a nice meal. Needless to say, my wife was very unimpressed and our celebration was clearly dampened by the poor culinary experience.
The only solution I can think of is to be issued some sort of refund. How would you like to resolve this?
Thanks for your time.

Overall this place has a great vibe, it’s a small hopping place with modern chill decor. For our appetizers, the edamame, lamb skewers, and battered cauliflower were all delicious. Very simple presentations but all filled with flavor. The sushi’s were both wonderful too, although I do not recall the names of them they were fresh and clean tasting along with tasteful. In addition, the chefs special of shrimp lo mein and the dan dan noodles were great as well, although not on the same level as the sushi. And lastly, the waiter was very prompt and attentive. Will definitely be back here again. And it was also well priced

Popped in shortly before they closed, but staff was very accommodating. Tried a couple of sushi rolls and honestly wasn’t impressed. Super bland, and the cucumbers taste like celery? Super expensive for what we got, but appreciated the hospitality during our vacation. Would recommend exploring other sushi options in the area

Good not great. Wish they had better vegetarian options but also realize that not everywhere needs to offer veg meals. Drinks were OK, food was mostly good but not particularly memorable, and the AC was blasting to arctic level. If you're curious definitely give it a try, a lot of people love it. I think it's just not my jam - and I wouldn't recommend to anyone vegan/vegetarian for sure.

Waaaayyy to pricey for what you get. Ordered a simple roll and potstickers. My daughter ordered the same and our total was $69. The rolls were teeny tiny and there were only four potstickers.
Going back to my simple standby, Sushi88 in Hillsboro village. Good portions and good value.
I’m happy to spend some money and With Oku at least you leave satisfiedy

I saw this place on tiktok and was super excited to come. However, the day we went the wok was not available at Punk Wok.
I was told they’re short staffed today. Totally fine. I understand that. Adjusted my order.
One of our entrees doesn’t come out by the time the other was almost finished with their meal. It happens. I get it. It went unnoticed until we spoke up.
When it did come out it was missing the sauces that came on top.
I totally understand the climate right now and how hard it is in this industry but then we were presented with the check and it was very overpriced for not offering any wok items we ordered, and having food not come out.
Service was great. They did their best. Really wanted to love it.

$18 for a single sushi roll at lunch? No thank you.
Edit- in reply to their response- there are several places in town that use the same grade fish for several dollars less 🤷🏻♂️✌🏻
