Smorgasbord of Japanese seafood rolls & hibachi dishes offered in low-key, contemporary surrounds.
Yesterday my family and I went to celebrate my birthday. It was my first time being there. Looking at it from the outside one would think its a hole in the walk type of restaurant. However, you never judge a book by its cover. Once inside it opens up to a spacious, clean, and well laid out restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful even with a little crowd. Our server was amazing. I wish I could remember his name because he deserves the credit. He was funny, very attentive, and even did something a little special for my birthday. He could tell i was an introvert so it wasn’t crazy. It was perfect. The food 10/10. I love the all you can eat option and the way it’s set up is genius. Low effort high reward. Very mindful, very demure. 😝The food was perfect, the best sushi I have had in a long time and for non sushi lovers they have other options as well. If you are looking for a great sushi place and don’t wanna do the tourist traps definitely come to king sushi in surfside.

This place is hands down the best in the area, and for good reason! They've absolutely mastered the concept of the "reverse buffet, all you can eat." Every dish is prepared fresh and brought directly to your table, so you can enjoy your meal without ever having to leave your seat. The process is simple: just jot down your order on the slip of paper, and before you know it, delicious, piping-hot food is delivered right to you.
What truly sets this restaurant apart, though, is not just the amazing food but the exceptional service. Our waitress, Bridget, went above and beyond to make our dining experience unforgettable. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, attentive, and incredibly professional. She made sure we were well taken care of, checking in at just the right moments without being intrusive. Her friendly demeanor and efficiency made us feel like valued guests throughout the meal.
It's clear that the staff here work tirelessly to provide top-notch service. They are constantly on the move, ensuring every table is served promptly and with a smile. One thing to note is that the tips are shared among the team, so it’s important to be generous when showing appreciation for their hard work. These folks deserve it!
If you're looking for a place with amazing food, a unique dining experience, and truly outstanding service—especially from someone as amazing as Bridget—this is it. Don’t forget to tip well; they’ve earned it!

Over all good experience first time here. Food is nothing spectacular for price but I also order boring things lol. Edamame was really good, crab rangoons. I devoured the shrimp hibachi. We tried a couple rolls. I do think for $27.99 the drink should be included (I know that’s unheard of). Waiter Jordan was phenomenal handling all of the tables alone during off season. He was very attentive and polite. Will def be back probably for the cheaper lunch option next time.

All you can eat sushi was great! Quality of the sushi and appetizers were definitely worth the price point. Atmosphere was very nice and our waitress was very attentive and followed up with us with drink refills and additional servings of food as we needed it.

out of town and looking for food, found this place online.
looking at reviews for this place I saw some older bad reviews but no recent ones.
decided to try the place and was really suprised at how good the sushi was!
reviews had complained about pureed meat or some other nonsense, but we enjoyed the 150 or so pieces we had.
obviously you are not going to have world famous sushi, but what we got was tasty, filling, and exactly what we wanted.
try to get there early for the lunch time price for real good value.
I believe lunch was 16 or 17 and dinner was 25$.
still way cheaper than every where else we looked and saw 37-45$ per person for dinner.

Excellent assortment of all you can eat sushi to include hibachi. The hibachi steak was very tender and came with rice and vegetables. I ordered two. The crab Rangoon’s were the best we ever ate as well as the shrimp tempura appetizer. Got two of both of those. Photos show the sashimi salmon (.75 extra per slice but worth it), Philadelphia roll, Dragon Roll, Queen Roll (our favorite), Las Vegas Roll, and Crab Roll. They were very busy for Labor Day weekend and short on staff. However, It took only about 5 minutes to get the appetizer and around 15 for the sushi but they kept it coming. The lady working the front counter constantly checked on us as well. Very friendly people. Drew was our server and was very nice. They give you plenty of white sauce (yum yum sauce) and it tastes great.
The floor was a little dirty as well as the bathroom but nothing very bad. Some water was on the floor under a seat and they apparently had no one available to clean it up. The seats and tables were clean. It would be helpful to provide hand sanitizer at the front with sushi but we bring our own.
They provide paper sheets where you write what you want and they pick them up often. They have some explanation of each roll but you can ask as well and they are helpful. For just under $27 per person, the price is worth the quality. I ate some before I remembered to take a photo so some plates are not as full as it was when it was brought out.
It is truly all you can eat. We will be back! A must-visit if you like sushi and hibachi. Come hungry!

Over all ok. Service was friendly. The descriptions of what is on the menu doesn't always match what is actually in the roll or appetizer. The fish is really small. The ginger actually tasted like dirt.

The food was most definitely a disappointment for the price. It wasn't very much flavor, the shrimp was over cooked. In my opinion, if it is going to cost that much the flavor should be worth it.

We used to come to this restaurant alot when they first opened. The food was fantastic and can eat as much as you want. They are now under new management. This was the first time we ate at this restaurant since since the new owners took over. The food portions are very small, they is not good. The sushi is poorly wraped and just does not taste good. They give a very small piece of fish on a big piece of rice. The squid salad is very small and not what it used to be. The kani salad, I thought was pretty funny. They give you a bowl full of cucumbers sliced and very little crabmeat. More like a cucumber salad. Unfortunately, we will not be back. We were very disappointed 😞. We are a family of 4 and spent about $136 just to get small portions and bad tasting food. I am giving a 1 star only because the service was very nice and helpful. She did the best she could. I am sorry to give a bad review. Dont normally like to leave bad review. But I feel a change is needed and hope the owners take these reviews seriously.

Just found out last week there is an all you can eat sushi ( and hibachi ) in surfside.. WOW we went Saturday nite ( birthday) I've purchased my sushi past few years at the kroger on rt 501 carolina forrest ( when I needed a quick sushi fix since they always making it fresh to order ).... this sushi king is great over 100 items to choose from ( and its not like the all you can't eat sushi places that try and stuff as much rice under a slice of fish or in a roll ) the hand rolls were perfect 2 bite rolls hardly knew rice was in it, the speciality rolls loaded with fresh raw tuna, salmon, yellowtail, eel etc..we had the squid salad, sashimi salad & avocado salad. We had fried Tempura calamari, crab Rangoon ( banging), pork gyoza dumplings, shrimp Shumai dumplings..hibachi vegetables, hibachi shrimp, vegetable yakisoba. Plus dozens of sushi and specialty rolls ie fried soft shell crabs. For $27.99...( the hibachi veg & shrimp ) plates we ordered would have cost $27.99 in any hibachi resturant alone..THE BEST PART was the $12.75 bucket of ( 5 [ domestic] 12oz bottles of beer [ I went with mich ultra ] - could have opted for the 5 blue moons but wanted lighter beer )... gotta say 2 dinner buffets, 1 bucket of beers, 1 pot green tea, 1 glass of chardonnay @ 10 oz for less than $80 pre tax..IM A FOOD GUY AND IM REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THIS PLACE ( lunch is only $16.99) - I would give many more stars!

I call this the reverse buffet. You write on a note pad what you want. They bring it to you hot and fresh. Don't let the name mislead you. They have more than just sushi. If you go in just for sushi you won't be disappointed. Shrimp fried rice is the best in the area.

I do want to preface this review by saying that my family and I live down the road from Kings Sushi, and have been coming here for years. Up until the other night, l’ve had no real complaints about this restaurant. It sucks to say that due to our recent experience here, we definitely will not be returning again.
To make a very long story short, my boyfriend and I waited over 45 minutes for our appetizers, and we had to walk around the restaurant to flag down our own sever to ask why we hadn’t gotten our food yet. She said she would put in a new order for us, and a few minutes later we had a portion of what we ordered at our table.. cold. She asked us how the food was and we let her know we were missing some of what we ordered, and that what we did receive was cold. She brought us out the correct food about 10 minutes later, and told us pretty much the entire kitchen speaks Spanish so these mishaps happen a lot. She then told us she would give us a discount on our bill for the inconvenience.
Once we received our check, a total of 12% had been discounted. Nothing crazy, but we took what we could get. When we got up to the host stand to pay, as we always do, we let them know we’re locals so we can get their 10% discount. The hostess was about to add it on, but the server then came up and said that she had already added it to our bill. Meaning if she already added the 10% locals discount for us, that means the additional “discount” she gave us for the near hour delay in our food was a mere 2%. We heard her tell the hostess she added it because we “had to wait a few extra minutes for our food.” We told her our frustration about the amount we were discounted, and that it was not a few minutes, it was almost an hour. She started to become hostile and basically just to shut us up, she told the hostess to bump the discount from 12% to 15%.
We could have overlooked the incident with our food had we actually received any sort of compensation like we were told we would. The “discount” we were given ended up saving us barely over a dollar. At that point, the discount is just a slap in the face.
I am not the kind of person to leave negative reviews, but the whole ordeal just left such a bad taste in my mouth. I have worked in the service industry for years, as has my boyfriend who is currently a server. We absolutely understand that some things are out of their control, but the lack of care and respect for the customers here is just embarrassing and has no excuse.
If you want to waste your money, and about 2.5 hours of your time, then this is the place for you.

food was phenomenal as always, the service was awful. The waitress was uninterested and dis, genuine, also left paying double what my bill should have been because we were charged full price for sushi rolls that had two pieces left, should have only been roughly $70 left paying well over $100, tried calling to dispute several times and got no answer or voicemail. Host also finished text message before acknowledging our party.

Wasn't sure I wanted to go here because I thought it was a make your own plate kind of place. One day we said let's go in to see what it is exactly. There was no buffet bar with people choosing what they wanted. Rather, they seated us, gave menus, and then explained how it works. You choose from the menu and they bring it to you, but watch what you order because it is a LOT of food!
It's the BEST Sushi place ever! Amazing!
Oh, and we had a waiter named Dillon who is fantastic! We'll always ask for him!
Just go! You don't know what your missing if you don't!
Update; I loved this place, until I found hair in my food. Once, ok it happens. Twice? I can’t…..
Maybe have people who work around food wear protective nets.
No longer my favorite place.

Literally the worst “sushi” I’ve ever had in my life. Ordered spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail rolls and there was no fish in them whatsoever. It was literally rice and breadcrumbs with maybe some food coloring in it to make it look like fish. My husband ordered Alaskan rolls and there was the tiniest chunk of salmon in there. Mainly rice and fillers. I can’t even believe this place is in business. We couldn’t even eat it so now we have to order from somewhere else

Spicy rolls contained 0 fish. Appeared to just be colored breadcrumbs. Very dry and unappetizing.

It's everyone's favorite place to go, especially for birthday dinners. The sushi is amazing! The apps are amazing! Love the crab Rangoon and the pork dumplings. All you can eat.... best value, beats any other sushi restaurant in the area. Will be back many times!

I do want to start this review off by saying I absolutely love Kings Sushi and have been coming here for years! The service and the food is usually phenomenal. However, today (1/28/24 @ 3pm), our server, who I believe’s name was Maria, made our experience a bad one. My friends and I (4 of us in total) all work in restaurants, servers/hosts/to-gos and we know how work can get. However we were nothing but respectful and kind to her. Right from the start we were met with attitude and noticed her giving it to other tables as well. It’s upsetting because we were nice to her. The last straw was when we tried to ask for separate checks and she acted like we were seriously inconveniencing her (only 2-3 tables at the time). Then she proceeded to say, very rudely “so is this cash, card, what am I doing here?” While we were trying to get our money out. It was just a very awkward experience, especially when we did nothing wrong. My boyfriend was trying to count his money out and she just stood there, watching us with a snark face, it seemed like she rolled her eyes too. She came back to the table to tell us that we lost one of the checks (? We gave them to her with our cards/money). And then when we said “oh we don’t have it here” she walked off and muttered “it’s fine I’ll just print it out again.” I may be reading too much into this but everything she said seemed so hostile. It wasn’t just me who said it, I heard other tables saying she had an attitude and my friends agreed.
I will say, she did get us refills, made sure our food was right, but all with an attitude like we were inconveniencing her.

Service started a little slow, took about 15-20 minutes to be greeted. Although after that they definitely redeemed themselves on both the food and service. First time having all-you-can-eat sushi and this place definitely did not disappoint! Food was put in and delivered promptly and was absolutely delicious and fresh. I recommend the jalapeno yellow tail appetizer, it was Sooo good! Looks can definitely be deceiving as the outside is not much, but the inside was quaint and the food 100% made up for anything else. Will absolutely be back.

If you’re coming for the food that better be it cause the service sucks and the “management “ the girl at the front desk that sat on her phone the entire time just as bad. The servers were HORRIBLE lacked hospitality and had no social skills. As well as the rude inconsiderate “manager.” Y’all hiked up the dinner price and with it being that price I expected better service. But then when you complain about the service they can’t even accept they are in the wrong and say sorry. Management just argued the whole time. Somebody needs to bring in NEW STAFF AND MANAGEMENT.

Food is always amazing. Our server Jordan left something to be desired. He left out an entire guests foods several times due to wearing ear phones while taking our order to the kitchen.
When we walked in we asked the manager who apparently sat us for a booth. She ignored me and sat us at a table. I asked again where she says the entire side of the restaurant was closed. We passed two booths on the open side. We stayed to eat only because the kids were hungry.
After mediocre service we watched guest of our server be sat and I immediately asked the hostesses who is also the manager and she became very defensive. She attempted to justify why she sat guests on the side that is closed vs why that is wrong. I explained to her how people request booths due to injury and disability where she continued to argue about why she allowed our servers friends to sit where paying customers can’t.
She then says she has no manager above her. And offered no discount on the bill or anything for inconvenience. Food is equally good at the north myrtle beach location. Would travel there instead.

I went here last fall or winter, and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the quality of the food was good. The service was good. It was clean. You pick from a large assortment of different types of sushi rolls, and they have options for entrees, sides, etc. The price was unbeatable, considering it was lunchtime in the off-season. I feel I got more than my moneys worth, which is important at these all you can eat types of dining experiences. I will definitely return soon. . .

THE SERVICE WAS FIRST CLASS. I believe Chase was our server and he went above and beyond my WILDEST expectations. I have never felt so catered to in a restaurant setting, it was amazing.
That being said, it is an ALL YOU CAN EAT style restaurant, so expect fish portions to be on the lighter side.

Very nice, kind staff but the sushi didn’t meet my expectations which could be very high. We came late , this could be another factor. You can give it a try. Prices are very reasonable.

A decent restaurant where you uh order food via little cards and they bring it to you. Very delicious and all you can eat buffet.

I am not one to bash restaurants, but I highly recommend y’all don’t come here.
I ordered a teriyaki chicken entree and a $2.00 side of steak, no vegetables, and double rice.
I got 4 cut up pieces of chicken and the same for steak, and a couple spoonfuls of mushy watery rice for $20.
The plate had a puddle of water in the middle.
My fiancé ordered sushi and it was awful.
For $40, I recommend going to
Hachiya Junior or Mon cafe.
Terrible service, nasty food, and not in a safe location.
Im not after getting a free meal, but this was very disappointing!

This place was absolutely dead. They are charging way too much 30. for a sunday dinner at 1pm. When I first moved here and we visited them, the pricing was better. The waitress was excellent, let us know that there was a Al carte menu
They always have a huge turnaround of waiters and waitresses. That's probably because the lack of traffic coming through and the money they can make. I feel sorry for them.
I stayed and paid as A.
Gratitude and tribute to the person I was with. But I won't be going back there any time soon. I don't think they're gonna be able to keep
their doors open. Let's get some competition for them to deal with. And then have their prices go down. This is probably why the place was completely empty.

Finger nails? Why are there finger nail pics with the food pics?

The food is great, always hot when served. Looking forward to the next step time. The teriyaki steak and teriyaki shrimp, soooo good! Cucumber salad is very good. Don't forget the spring rolls!

I'll start by saying that our server was excellent. She was incredibly attentive and expedient and friendly. She was just lovely.
The atmosphere was fine. Nothing special, but clean and roomy.
The food was mediocre. Husband got hibachi and said it was pretty good. The portion was much smaller than typical portions, but it also only cost like $16. I got the all-you-can-eat option. They're quick w the new orders. In fact, she would scoop up my next order when she brought my current order.
The quality of sushi was mediocre. Some was too loosely wrapped and fell apart on the plate. The quantity of fish in the rolls is quite low, which isn't surprising, given the all-you-can-eat status (gotta stay in business). The taste wasn't bad or great; it was just fine.
Would I return for sushi? No, probably not. Do I regret going? Also, no. I feel $25 is worth the amount of food you can get. It was a pleasant evening w perfectly fine food and great service.

First time, was sat beside a 15 top of Northern golfers who were hammered, obnoxious, and continually being served more alcohol. They were disrespectful to the waitress and everyone around them. We let our server know we were upset so we were offered a box for our food that never arrived and our over 100 dollar tab.

We had a wonderful time thanks to our server Gus! What a blessing! He was so kind and considerate. Kept the food coming. And then to really make it a special day, we had told him that it was 2 of my Granddaughters birthday, and when he brought them their ice cream, it was in a special glass with a candle on top of each one! We got to sing happy birthday and they blew out their candles! So great! We always go there when we go to the beach but this was our most enjoyable time we ever had. We stopped on the way out and told the lady at the desk, but I just wanted everyone to know! Also the food was absolutely delicious, the best! Very fresh! The cooks outdone themselves! Thanks to them also! Gus always be you!

Mediocre food. Have to pay dinner price all day?? Manager being rude to servers. Not exactly what I want to witness while eating.

We had an awesome time compliments to our waiter Gus. He kept us all fed and entertained while we were there. He went the extra mile because it was both of my girls' birthday by bringing them a special glass of ice cream complete with a lit candle! He also was very patient with an autistic guest that was dining with us. I think Gus definitely deserves a raise! We love coming here for the all you can eat sushi and have been many times. But, this was a very memorable visit. See you soon!

My girlfriend wanted to go to this restaurant, and I was skeptical at first that it would be terrible. Food was surprisingly good. Nothing is amazing but also nothing is that terrible either. Overall good value.
-Gyoza: good (hard to screw up)
-miso soup: good
-avocado salad: delicious
-teriyaki steak: chewy and meh flavor
-seaweed salad: mehh, avoid. Bring flosspicks.
-chicken katsu: avoid, very chewy

Me and my wife came in today for our anniversary. We were met with the usual new faces as this locations usually tends to get a lot of new people. Today we had the pleasure of having Alyssa as our server, she did an absolutely fantastic job. I couldn't recommend king enough.

Food was good once it finally arrived. Sat there for over 30 minutes with no food brought to me while the table that showed up after I ordered my food was already eating. My server never came back to refill my drink. I wasn’t able to take advantage of the all you can eat because I ran out of time so I had to leave hungry don’t waste your time or money. There’s a million other places nearby, that you’re better off eating at.

On August 12, 2023, My Daughter Princess Zoey, and I went to our normal sushi spot KING SUSHI in Surfside S.C., and had a great time. The table next to us was hosting a birthday dinner and appeared to be having a wonderful time as well. We have been supporting the restaurant for about 5 years. Zoey first started eating sushi at KING SUSHI at the age of 4 with chopsticks after that she was all in. We just love the place and will always return. However, on another note we would like to give special thanks to our waitress ALYSSA she’s the total package attentive to our needs at the table, quick with her service to us, and very knowledgeable of the sushi kingdom….So Princess Zoey and I wish you good luck in your quest for the rewards that await you as KING SUSHI ultimate waitress contest winner and remember “What did the sushi say to the bee? Wasabi.

The food was so good and satisfying! I ate so much that I broke a rib and it punctured my lung. Thank goodness for Alyssa performing an emergency tracheotomy so I could breathe and eat more until the ambulance came. Thanks Alyssa!! What a lifesaver!!

Hands down THE BEST sushi in MB! We've tried several sushi restaurants and buffets and always come back to Kings Sushi. Staff is amazing and helpful, beer is always cold, turnaround on ordering is fast, they customize your roll with no issues whatsoever, and their food is consistently delicious no matter who is working. Sorry I didn't take a picture...it looked delicious and I immediately went for it 😋
Update: Alyssa is amazing! She put my Sapporo in the freezer to make sure it was extra cold! She even took out some of the calories for me 😉😆🍺

Alyssa was took care of EVERYTHING we needed.
She was happy to serve us, and even spoon feed my child. So I could peacefully eat.
I got super upset because my steak was chewy. Unfortunately we can’t take left overs home so she finished my steak to avoid the up-charge. She worked above and beyond even finishing my sake because I was too lit to drive home.
10/10 service would come back.
She was happy to get us an Uber.

Me and my parents went tonight for all you can eat sushi. The food was amazing as always and our server, Alyssa, created such a fun environment for us to enjoy our night. She was great to joke around with and shared many entertaining stories. The service provided was so amazing I cannot explain it in any other way than she felt like a close friend.

Sushi King. Buffet sushi ordered a few rolls at a time. Decent stuff with a wide variety. No you are not getting morimoto signing pieces of bluefin here and sending them to your table. No hand drawn Wasabi tableside as the chef serves you one piece at a time. That's available in much more expensive sushi restaurants. Each restaurant fills a different niche. I enjoy SK after work or after a convention with big groups. Fresh rolls at a decent price without the extremely high end items. Great spot for some quick sushi rolls.

Service: they are saying they are under staff and they have 2-4 people sitting around doing nothing
Atmosphere: I don't know what that means but I guess it's alright it's a good place to eat but I guess today was a bad day for them
#its amazing but today was a bad day

Vegan review:
Love this place! It's a "must go to" when in the area. I love the edamame with sea salt, and great salad. The hibachi vegetable is great. The vegetable fried rice (with no egg) is very good. Lastly what I really fill up with is many avocado roles. Fresh avocado and fresh rice, what's not to like.

This place was very clean and the food was excellent. Service was a little slow during what appeared to be a lunch rush.
My party of two ordered 8 sushi dishes and several appetizers as part of the AYCE lunch menu and every single items was as fresh as it could possibly be and absolutely delicious.
My favorite items were the dragon roll, the spicy tuna hand roll, the Goya dumplings, and the crab rangoon.
I fully intend on this being my first meal when I return to Surfside.

The gentleman that served us was kind and generous (making sure everything was up to their standards). They were short staffed when we came in and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. And let me tell you for 16$ you can have a great time here and enjoy some great sushi (you will leave FULL). Their shrimp fried rice with spicy mayo was amazing 9.4/10 Definitely will come back and would recommend to anyone that enjoys reasonable prices for the family and above average sushi. My wife and I are sort of sushi enthusiasts and we definitely will come back not just for the sushi but the service was well above what we expected for an all you can eat joint. I really hope people come to enjoy their food, it is worth the stop.

We used to be regulars here. At least once a week. However, over the past couple of months we have witnessed all angles of it go downhill. Particularly the complete lack of a sense of urgency from the sushi bar. The last time we went we gave up after 30 minutes on three rolls to come out to the table. We informed the server we were leaving and to only charge us for one dinner. Another server informed us that the sushi bar has been really bad at service for some time. It is costing the servers money in tips. When we left that evening we were certain to tip our server appropriately, but we left a note telling the manager that our server was not to tip out the sushi bar. Then today we saw the report in the Sun News about restaurant scores. You guys are a sushi bar. How can you be so careless with temperatures and storing your foods?!?!? It is clear that your kitchen staff is completely checked out mentally. Not to mention there are a couple servers there that we question their level of sobriety on the job. And we don't mean alcohol. Unfortunately for us we will not be back. We are hoping some of the servers here move to better, more successful restaurants where they make the money they deserve. These problems only start in one place.... Management. Or the lack thereof.
