Disappointing Dining Experience
I recently visited Samurai Greenville and unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. We initially wanted hibachi but were told there was a 25-minute wait, so we opted to dine at the restaurant instead. Upon being seated, we noticed several dirty tables around us, which was not a good first impression.
When our orders were taken, mine was incorrect. I ordered steak, shrimp, and chicken but only received steak and shrimp—no chicken. Additionally, I was served one iced tea, which was empty within minutes, and no refills were offered. I had to get my own refill at the bar. We were also supposed to receive soup and salad, but these were never offered.
To make matters worse, the table next to us also had complaints and requested to speak with a manager. Overall, the service was disorganized, and the attention to detail was lacking. I hope management addresses these issues to improve the customer experience.

Came after being stonewalled by the local "hotspot" California Dreaming, this place was lifesaver. Got seated immediately, and served soon after. Even met a local there confirming this place is far ahead CD on his list.
Hibachi Chef Jordan was a riot. More comedian than your usual avg hibachi. Providing entertainment along with comfort food, he was most excellent with up to date jokes...
Then we got birthday cake and drum performance for free! My son was thrilled.
Great job guys!!!!

The experience here was interesting. This must’ve been a seafood restaurant prior, because as we walked up there was a pirate on the patio which threw me off. I had to make sure we were entering the right business. Inside, there is plenty more fish, crab, etc. decor to confirm my previous statement.
When we walked in, you could hear someone over in the hibachi area. After waiting a few minutes and not seeing anyone, I popped my head over into the hibachi room and a cook walked out to get someone for us which was helpful. We were going for sushi and when asked if we wanted a booth or table, I said booth yet we were sat at a table.
The girl who helped us was very kind and polite. We were going back and forth about what to order. When our rolls came, I asked for some sauces which weren’t brought out right away so I couldn’t eat until she came back and I had to ask again. We weren’t given any napkins when seated or when the food was brought, and we weren’t asked if our food was good until the end which was counterproductive.
Overall, the sushi was decent. My spicy tuna roll had tempura flakes in it which was just strange. Filler? I’m not a fan of that part and not sure why that would be in there (this isn’t normal for a spicy tuna roll). The Crazy Roll states on the menu it has two shrimp tempura pieces in it which is not true. There was only one.
While we were eating, a man had mopped the restrooms but here is the kicker..... he then moved into the dining area without changing the water. 😖🤯
Very interesting visit. I have mixed emotions about this place.

I came out on October 13 2024 to celebrate my nephew‘s birthday with over 20 people. I have never been treated so bad the entire time two people watch us eat along with our waiter who kept putting his fingers in our bowl of food and he was so rude and so nasty along with the hostess we even went and talked to the manager who just only apologize that was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Even though the food was very good, I would never return to this restaurant and I don’t advise anyone else.

The best way to describe this place is the Walmart of Japanese Steakhouses. Food temp was hot, warm, cold and raw. I asked to sit at the hibachi table but was told they don’t allow a party of one. I ordered 2 orders nigiri and told her I am deathly allergic to eel. So one of the orders I was brought was eel. She said she would correct it and I said no please just take it off my bill. She continued to argue with me and repeated she would bring the correct order. I continued to tell her no and she finally said ok. Got my hibachi and the steak was not even rare. If it had legs it would be walking around the plate. The lobster was either hot or ice cold. Just an absolute joke. I will never come back to this place.

Ozzy, the Hibachi Chef was entertaining and a good cook. What more could you ask for at a Japanese Steakhouse? The Shrimp, Steak, and Scallops were cooked just right and the Chicken Yakitori appetizers were also excellent. Fully Stocked bar, and multiple Hibachi Rooms. New hang out spot!

I ordered the chicken and steak hibachi. Food came out in a decent amount of time. It was hot and tasted good so no complaints there. The dinner was priced well for what I ordered. Only reason not 5 stars is because one of my cups came out with lipstick stains on it

Tonight was our first time trying this restaurant!
-Staff was very friendly and attentive
-The restaurant as a whole was very clean! A lot of restaurants struggle with this
-I LOVED the ginger salad dressing!
-Soup was very flavorful
-Our cook was very nice
-Food was fresh, tasteful, and well cooked (only thing I wish is for the rice to have little carrots or something else besides just egg)
-Food was not overpriced either, we had plenty left to take home

The 3 roll lunch special is not only a good value, it's really tasty as well! If sushi is not one of your favorites (what's wrong with you?! ... just kidding), try the M-F hibachi specials. They're also very delicious and less than $8 (dine in only) if my memory is correct.

So as a lover of Japanese food we were excited for this new place to be here. Today was probably our 3rd or 4th visit so in the past, for the most part we have been happy with our experience. Until today ! We were seated in the far back, which was unusual for the hibachi side but nevertheless we were seated. We were in a section where an employee was seated, and about halfway though our experience as we are just eating at this point, we hear him watching tv in his phone . No big deal except it seems as if he was watching x-rated tv, so as we turn to let him know we can hear his tv… he takes his hand and blows snot into his bare hands and swats it towards the floor! So visibly disgusted we reacted and request a manager comes out immediately. The waitress then says to us, oh we don’t have a manager here tonight… unknowingly to her we already spoke with and saw the owner there … so after telling her that she goes and gets the owner who see the snot on the floor and said, I will take care of your check for you. I explained I had paid already and she didn’t need to because that would be my last time there . This was done openly in front of us and 4 other guests. I was mortified! How disgusting as the employee walked directly into the kitchen after giving us a scolding look!

Had a co-worker suggest this restuarant. We are really glad that he did! The food, table service & hibachi chef were wonderful. We arrived around 1130a, the restuarant was not crowded at all, but it tookna few minutes to be seated as there was no hostess at the door. We asked for the hibachi chef experience and was seated. We had another gentleman that was seated at our table and it didn't take long for the chef to arrive at our table after we received our drinks & soup. The chef was very interactive & did a great job. The waitress kept our tea glasses filled. We had the steamed gyozas as an appetizer- which was very good. Our chef-cooked hibachi chicken & fried rice was was very good & tender. The potion-size is very good as well. We had plenty for our leftover box. The best part is that the lunc prices are very, very reasonable given the large portion sizes. The hibachi chicken plates were $6.99 & the gyozas were $7. With our tea, our bill was $28 (pre-tip). My only negative for the entire experience is that there are numerous ocean and pirate paraphernalia that adorn the exterior and interior decor - as this location was previously a Joe's Crabshack restaurant. Other than the decor, we enjoyed our lunch and will return when we are back in the area.

This is a second try on this place and I definitely suggest against it. Do not waste your time or money. There has never been a host at the desk when you walk in, the waitresses look nasty like they were hired from behind the dump. This place is not welcoming and it takes forever to be seated. The food is also sub par, the dudes cooking are not fun just trying to hurry and get through the process. This place won’t last long because it’s almost always empty and they haven’t even changed much of the building from the Joe’s Crab Shack days. Greenville save your gas, don’t come here.

Fantastic Birthday meal for our family of 10! I love the way they actually cook eggs to go in fried rice. Most hibachi places dont do this! We love their white sauce but they offered us a teriyaki sauce as well which is now our favorite! The ONLY thing they could do better is their ranch and ginger dressing on salad. Everyone in party seemed to think it was watered down too much. It needs to be thicker please ❤️ but still tasted delicious. Our hibachi chef, we nick named Maui. He was so funny, entertaining and even sang for us! The adults and children adored him! We were ready to take him home with all of our leftovers.

Significantly Understaffed! No host. Waitress doubles up as a host. 30 people waiting in lobby. Waitress was stressed and you could see her put both of her hands on her head when she saw the lobby waiting to get seated. Most folks were there for hibachi, had reservations but still had long waits. Dining area had one waitress working on a Saturday evening peak time. Barely saw her, didn’t even get a drink refill.
Tip was automatically added to the bill, we had only 5 people (of course they print of the receipt asking for more tip).
Will not be coming back to this location.

We have gone every week and it was good till now ( not to mention they could care less we come every week ) . As we were sat the table behind us had two loud ( screaming ) cooks. We were sat , ordered. Apps , salad. Soup all came out . Two cooks still behind us . Finally our cook comes out he looks 16 ( never seen him there before ) barely mumbled . He put oil in the grill, put all the food on the grill , poured oil over the food then poured teriyaki all over everything ( it’s been on the grill 10 seconds ) the rice was already seasoned and all the pepper burned. He put more on. The table was too hott he burned the pepper , the rice , the shrimp. He overcooked everything . I was a chef for 30 years , this kid had never in his life cooked I think he was the dishwasher the told him cook it dump teriyaki All over it and it will be fine . It was gross soup with sooooo much pepper it burned . They wouldn’t recook it , they wouldn’t take it off the bill. They told me it’s my fault because I didn’t tell him how to cook it ????? The two cooks behind us by the way we’re still cooking at the table . This is the maddest I have ever been at a restaurant and the first time I left a zero tip . 60$ and we went straight to McDonald’s. It’s been over two hours and we are still trying to get pepper out of our mouths/teeth .

What behooved me was we weren’t even 5 minutes out from the cook turning off the grill when a lady came out and gave us bags and to go boxes. The food was good and all but they definitely need to work on their service and allow people to get a portion of food in before trying to kick them out.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Samurai Japanese Steakhouse, and I'm eager to share my experience, which overall merits a solid four-star rating.
Firstly, the culinary offerings at Samurai were impressive. The food quality was undoubtedly deserving of a four-star rating. Each dish was seasoned to perfection, with a particularly noteworthy use of garlic that brought a consistent and delightful flavor profile to the meals. This consistent use of garlic not only enhanced the taste but also demonstrated the chefs' attention to detail in their cooking techniques.
The service at Samurai Japanese Steakhouse was exemplary, deserving a full five-star rating. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable. Their recommendations were spot-on, and their timing for each course was impeccable, making us feel both welcomed and well-cared for throughout our meal.
However, the atmosphere of the restaurant was where I felt there was room for improvement, meriting a three-star rating. While the ambiance was pleasant, it lacked a certain distinctiveness or thematic depth that one might expect from a specialized cuisine like a Japanese steakhouse. It was comfortable and clean, but didn't quite transport me to the cultural experience that the food so beautifully encapsulated.
In conclusion, Samurai Japanese Steakhouse offers a delightful dining experience with its excellent food, particularly for garlic lovers, and top-notch service. While the atmosphere could use some enhancement to match the high standards of their culinary and service offerings, the overall experience was very satisfying. I would definitely recommend it to those seeking a flavorsome and friendly Japanese dining experience.

The restaurant is in a former Joe's Crab Shack location. It would seem that rather than completely remodeling, the new owners chose to keep the crab shack theme, now serving sushi, hibachi and seafood boil. I tried the sushi. It was ok but rather bland. The hibachi food looked better but I didn't get a chance to try it.

The only complaint I have would be to the food. With no malice, I say it was sadly void of proper flavor. I ordered the miso soup, and after the second sip, I sent it away. The same was true for my main course. I was not asked if I wanted anything different, nor were these items removed from my bill out of courtesy. I should state I did not ask for it to be taken off either. I only tell you this as an informational bit, so you know. The restaurant was fairly empty when I went so I was able to enjoy the decor and atmosphere. I took my grands 3&5, and they enjoyed the sights. It was a 1 and done for me, however. Think I'll stick with Redbowl. Happy eating.

TL;DR: I visited this restaurant with high hopes and was left utterly disappointed and disgusted by the events that occurred during my visit.
I cannot stress enough how awful our experience was at Samurai Japanese Steakhouse & Cajun Seafood Hibachi. We dined here the past Friday night and I feel compelled to share my experience with others looking to dine at this place. Unfortunately, our visit left much to be desired to say the least, and I believe it's essential to bring attention to the issues we encountered during our time at the restaurant.
My party and I arrived an hour before closing, and the restaurant was basically empty, which immediately raised concerns. As we were tried from our day of exploring the city, we decided to look past our concerns and give the place the benefit of the doubt. Although the absence of customers wasn't a promising sign, we genuinely hoped for a pleasant dining experience. However, our hopes quickly dissipated as the night progressed.
From the moment we walked in, it was evident that some of the staff's attitude toward us was less than welcoming. We were met with unwarranted glances that made us feel like we were intruding on their space. The most troubling incident occurred during our hibachi meal when we mentioned that it was a birthday celebration. The hibachi chef's response was deeply inappropriate and unsettling. He insisted that the birthday girl dance stand up on her chair, turn around, bend over and then “shake what her mama gave her” in front of everyone. Even after repeatedly objecting to the situation which was becoming very uncomfortable, the chef was being persistent and could not understand why we were angry at the unacceptable and blatant harassment the birthday girl had just experienced.
It is essential for any establishment to prioritize the comfort and well-being of its guests, which was clearly disregarded here.
What made matters worse was the indifference displayed by other male staff members who seemed to leer at various times during our meal especially at the birthday girl.
We decided to bring this issue to our waitress's attention, hoping for a responsible and empathetic response. Much to our dismay, she made excuses for the chef and regarded the situation as a flippant joke, adding to our disappointment.
After leaving the restaurant and reflecting on the disturbing events of the evening, we felt compelled to contact management and voice our concerns. Regrettably, every manager we spoke to showed a complete lack of interest and failed even to offer a basic apology. The lack of accountability was truly disheartening and left us feeling unheard and undervalued as customers.
In sharing my experience, I hope to shed light on the concerning business practices and customer service at Samurai Japanese Steakhouse & Cajun Seafood Hibachi. It is my sincere hope that management takes immediate steps to address these issues, train their staff in appropriate conduct, and prioritize the comfort and safety of all their guests. No one should ever have to endure such an unpleasant experience when dining out, and it is crucial that this restaurant take this matter seriously and make the necessary improvements.

Top to bottom, this was an extremely trying and traumatizing experience. I wanted to take my family to dinner, and figured onion volcanos, spatula tricks, nice conversation w/the chefs is common to the experience. This was the complete opposite. We called in advance to make sure we weren't being an inconvenience by coming in by 9, and they close at 10. We got an awkward answer of approval over the phone and didn't think anything of it. The parking lot was completely empty, which didn't seem too odd. However, once inside, was where our experience went from ok to horrible. Our hibachi chef proceeded to make our food, which would've been fine, but while we ate, members of the kitchen would come in and out, just staring at us. Once we finished eating, the chef asked if there was a special occasion. Unaware of what was to ensue shortly after, we told him there was a birthday. As he was leaving, he muttered something under his breath, which we didn't hear. About 10 minutes later, we hear a banging noise for a few minutes. It gets louder and louder, until we finally see the chef walk in with a giant drum. He asks how old she's turning, to her response, he grossly mutters something about her being 16. He forcibly asks the birthday girl to stand up on the chair, turn around and ''shake what her mama gave her". Our entire party was extremely uncomfortable and we objected, but he was persistent. Our table was next to the corridor that led to the exit, and there was a man leaning on the corridor, just watching. Once the chef left, the waiter smirked, as if this was somehow a joke. We asked our waitress, in shock, if this is normal. She defended the chef, saying that "they do something different with everyone". Once we left the place and went somewhere that actually seemed safe, we called and demanded an apology. Whoever was on the phone with us acted nonchalant and saw no wrong on their part. Apart from this atrocious experience, the yum yum sauce was not good, proteins were overcooked and rice was crunchy. The other bad reviews aren't random; this is a pattern and this is not okay. Please be weary of this place.

I came here last night for my birthday and it was completely ruined by a male chef who pressured me to stand on the chair and “shake what my mom gave me” and "shake my A**" in front of my friends and family when they were singing me happy birthday. I was visibly uncomfortable and he continued to harass me and tried to persuade me to dance inappropriately while forcing me to stand on the chair. Even after I repeatedly said no im not doing that, he continued to ignore me. Early in the dinner he also jokingly asked if I was turning 16 years old. If he thought i was that young, it is literally disgusting behavior for him to ask me to dance like that in a restaurant. No staff members nor the manager stepped in to deescalate the situation and we were dismissed when we spoke up about how uncomfortable we were. In fact, throughout the dinner, male staff from the kitchen kept creepily staring at us and made us all so uncomfortable. What the chef tried forcing me to do was So inappropriate and unprofessional for A FAMILY PLACE. I won’t be coming back and I’ll be warning everyone I know to avoid this place too. Completely dehumanizing and gross behavior from this chef.

This is a really unprofessional place. The chef here was very inappropriate and kept pressuring the birthday girl to dance and shake for him even though she and the entire table kept telling him she did not want to. Then the entire staff dismissed her distress and the situation was extremely disturbing how the staff acted normal about this. The staff needs to be held accountable and I hope this place shuts down

Came to celebrate a friend’s birthday and it was completely ruined by a male hibachi chef who pressured her to stand on the chair and “shake [her] a**” in front family and friends after they sang happy birthday. She repeatedly said no and everyone was clearly uncomfortable, but he continued to harass her. When she complained to the staff afterwards they didn’t do anything to rectify the issue! Disgusting, inappropriate, and unprofessional. Do not come here unless you want creepy staff to ruin your meal.

staff will make you uncomfortable and then not care or do anything about it when you bring it to their attention. super unprofessional.

The chef was creepy and super weird to my friend on her birthday. They were very disrespectful and made us feel uncomfortable
Visited 2 years ago
everything was somewhat ok until the chef inappropriately asked my friend to do a dance for her birthday. it was not the time OR place for what he was asking and it made all of us extremely uncomfortable especially the person whose birthday it was. on top of that there was staff members throughout out the whole dinner that kept peering out at us and since we were the only ones in the restaurant we felt very unwelcome even though there was roughly 2 hours left till closing

They like to close early and don’t serve anyone if it’s even near 9:30.. we called ahead last time and they said they were open. We arrived 9:25 for dinner on a Thursday evening and the staff behaved as if they just rather go home than stay open. Their hours say open until 10 pm…
Oh well…

Went here for a hibachi dinner with the family. It was a late dinner (8:00) and wasn’t very busy at that time. Had a chef named Andre and he was amazing. Seasoned and cooked the food perfectly. The filet and shrimp was amazing and extremely flavorful….by far the best hibachi food we have had in a long time. Even the fried rice was seasoned well and very flavorful. Have been here several times before on the other side and had the steamed seafood, which is always good as well. Definitely recommend.

Service was pretty slow, but the food (hibachi) was incredible. Will definitely be back.

Good sushi with decent prices. Casual atmosphere.

The hibachi was pretty good. The sushi was weird. We ordered the angel roll and the spicy grill roll. What we received was 2 rolls as described, but the fish was more of a paté, not slabs of fresh fish as we were expecting.

Food was ok. Loaded with butter. They added an 18% gratitude tax on a party of 4..

For a family of 5 we spent under 100 and that's a first for dinner! We all order a hibachi and our cook was awesome. This restaurant offers soooo many food options it's not just a hibachi grill. I fully intend on returning and trying the seafood boil.

This is a wonderful restaurant. They are just as good as the others, that have been around for several years. And the best part is... They are cheaper!

The music did not match the vibe (unedited Nicki Minaj), but the cook was awesome, drinks were effective, and the food was tasty!!!

We went there today and weren’t even acknowledged after 15-20 mins there we left. Waited a while to be seated and no one ever came so we figured we are supposed to seat ourselves. Had eye contact with the waitress at least 4’times she never greeted us or even acknowledged we were there. We decided if this is how they treat customers we didn’t want to be there so we left and had great service across the street. Will never go to Samari restaurant again!

We’ve been here a few times, but tonight will be the last. We ordered a hibachi dinner and a side of hibachi shrimp. They gave us two dinners and we only ate one. We never saw the server until after we ate (we even had to go to the bar to order more drinks) to correct the error. At the end we had to get the manager because our server wasn’t understanding what we were saying. She argued with us and told us we had to have two hibachi dinners to be able to sit at the grill. After we told her we weren’t told that and we were just charged for a dinner, without our knowledge, she walked off. I will say she took 50% off of the one dinner so we were satisfied with that, however, after she (the manager) ran our card she came back and essentially threw the card and receipts at us and walked off. It was completely unprofessional and rude. It wasn’t our mistake and it was not handled appropriately. Jesse, the chef, was amazing though!

Just now open. Lunch was slow. Soupy teriyaki sauce too much. The 🍤 were good. Mostly zucchini, which I'm not fond of. Brown lettuce in iceberg salad and too much dressing.

The salmon sushi rolls and sashimi were absolutely great! Customer service was on point, and the prices were definitely affordable. The atmosphere was very pleasent, and the inside was nice, I absolutely loved the decore. If you're ever around and feel like having Japanese, most definitely check this place out!

I ordered the lobster, scallops and shrimp with fried rice. Rice was very bland and barely had any onions or eggs. Sauce over seafood was on the sweet side and not flavorful. Service was great.

Easy to tell by the pictures how the food was disgusting. the woman on the phone with the rudest person I've ever probably dealt with in my life I definitely don't recommend this restaurant to anyone update May 11th the food was very good the woman was not there so I did not have to deal with her rude attitude this sushi was absolutely amazing I highly recommend going here for their tiger roll. I almost feel bad because I'm going to start cheating on sushi asa with them

Arrived at 9:22p.m. Only to be rushed to order at the bar by our colorful haired waitress Fanny. Instead of checking on us another server did twice. Then at ten to get the 8 other customers not included us out the door cut off all tvs off and told us we close at ten and pay. Tempura was soaked in grease had no taste. Food was subpar at best. Will not be returning. Normally not one to leave a review, but this was terrible from start to finish. We were starving, exhausted, and had a stressful day im sure like she did. There was no need for anyone to be treated like we were. Do better.

I ordered the chicken and steak hibachi. Food came out in a decent amount of time. It was hot and tasted good so no complaints there. The dinner was priced well for what I ordered. Only reason not 5 stars is because one of my cups came out with lipstick stains on it
