SakiTumi is an established fusion restaurant with fresh sushi, flavorful grill items and creative cocktails. We've been open in the downtown Vista arts district since 2006, located beside the Hyatt Place hotel & across the street from the Hampton Inn. A brief walk down a nice, quaint alleyway lined with palmetto trees brings you to our entrance. This location established our motto, "hard to find, easy to love," and also helped us create an amazing base of regulars and repeat customers that have supported us for years. Friendly staff, casual yet energetic atmosphere and open setting, you'll have a great time at Saki whether you're here for dinner or drinks. We welcome you to our group of family and friends at SakiTumi!
First time here and was very impressed! Maddie our server was friendly and helpful in ordering. She gave us great recommendations on drinks and food. Fantastic place to connect with friends. Loved the atmosphere. The food was perfect! Got the king kong roll and bang bang chicken sliders to share. The Apple whiskey sour was delicious too!

First off, the atmosphere vibe entering is an experience as I parked on the side of the street then walked down the alley to enter. Kindly greeted by all the foliage to the entrance. Truly a site to see.
Warren and the sushi chef were both kind and respectful! Cool guys for sure! 👌
The atmosphere indoors: cool local artists’ art on the wall. They play many early 2000s classics! Nostalgia for sure!
I and three different plates:
1) Snowcrab Roll - it was ok. 7/10. The sriracha was good but had a late kick. The roll didn’t have the best flavor. The shredded Alaskan snowcrab on tap was ok.
2) The Rollover from the Hand Rolls. This was really good! They look like four big joints, lol. But they were all good! The dynamite hand roll was my favorite! But they were all pretty good! 8.2/10
3) Kazimoto Roll - a crispy and crunchy roll. It has something like mozzarella breading on the outside, then the rolls are glazed with a spicy ponzu sauce. Very good! 8/10

We have regularly enjoyed coming here for date nights since 2016. You can dress up or go more casual (any occasion friendly). The staff are friendly, the food is delicious (they have non-sushi options if your spouse isn’t a sushi fan lol) and it’s an over all a laid back environment.
Warren was our server tonight; he was polite, attentive and helped us enjoy a wonderful experience. Would definitely recommend this for your next date night!

We came into this restaurant at 9:30 on a Saturday night after the Leanne Morgan concert
According to the website, they closed at 10 but when we sat down at the bar, the bartender Warren had no time constraints.
We ordered a shrimp tempora roll and a California roll. If you know me, you know, I love a Margarita so I got a Patron Margarita with a grand marnier floater.
Margarita was amazing as were the sushi rolls. The atmosphere was fantastic. The serving staff was friendly and professional and accommodating.
We will continue to come back here every time we have the opportunity. Two thumbs up!

If I can give it negative stars I would. Waited over an hour to get food with the restaurant 1/3 empty. Bar took forever to bring hot sake and soft drinks which is simple. Then when the order came it was wrong and they offered at first to reorder and it would take another hour. They comped the wrong food and the manager was great but the waitress responded poorly to this. First and last time I’ll come here.

For a 100$ it wasn't really all that great. It was pretty disappointing. The food was bland. The only thing, the place had going for it was the Lobster Wontons tonight. I just feel the food could have been better by a lot. There was at least two other customer tables that we witnessed complain about their food not being worth it either. The place seemed promising, but honestly, it's hard to find good Asian restaurants. A lot of places just can't hit that authenticity anymore. Might come back one day, but right now is not that time any time soon.

First time visiting and went for a quick solo dinner and sat at the bar. Great casual vibes at this restaurant and the sushi I ordered was delicious. Their spicy mayo is the best I’ve ever had!
Couldn’t find the restaurant at first but you have to walk all the way down the alley and it’s on the left.

I wanted to be impressed with the Sushi & dining experience but wasn't.
Service: Nico my waiter was kind, respectful, & attentive. The kitchen forgot most of my order. Wasn't busy, think it was only 5 patrons in restaurant.
Food: I ordered crab salad & it was good.
Crab wonton was bland.
Miso soup was SAAAAAALLLTTTY, sent it back & was kind of afraid to eat what he brought back; it was better but again I couldn't enjoy it.
Tuna roll with crispy shrimp was just ok as well.
Update: The owner reached out to me & offered to grant me a meal for future. I must say that that gesture warranted an updated review. I haven't been back yet, but I look forward to going. Thank you for the gesture.

Update 5.27.2024: After trying other brunch places, we demand y'all bring back your brunch because it is FAR superior than any of the places we've been forced to try! We'll put the 5th star back when that happens. Your Move Sakitumi!! 😤 😆

This downtown restaurant caught my eye with its high reviews, so I chose it to celebrate our wedding anniversary, our first real celebration in years. It was hard to find parking, and I had to park a block away.
The sushi took a while to prepare. I had a salmon and tuna roll, and my wife had one with unagi. Despite the appealing presentation, the taste was disappointing. My spicy roll lacked avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo, consisting only of fish, rice, and chili powder.
Our celebration fell flat, and we left dissatisfied. We won't be returning.

Maybe I am a sushi brat but these reviews did not live up to my expectations. The spicy tuna roll lacked spice and wasn’t like any other spicy tuna roll I’ve ever eaten.. the shrimp tempura also has cream cheese so beware. If you don’t eat sushi often this would be a great option, but if you do.. stay away!

We ate here last night. The cocktail was good and the edamame was well cooked. Sadly we didnt get to try the sushi. Afyer waiting 30-40 minutes after ordering our food with no food (other than edamame) in sight, we had to ask for the check so we could make it to our next destination on time. Less than half the tables were seated so it was a little confusing why our food took so long.

Out of towner looking for some decent sushi and this was not it. I ordered takeout since my hotel is a 4 min walk away. The King Kong roll had no taste unless I dipped it the sauce it came with. The Kyuri cucumber roll was soggy that looked like it was filled with pink mush instead of tuna, crab, and avocado. I guess I'm just spoiled at my local spots. I wish you well.

The sushi rice perfectly complemented the fish and everything was very well priced for the detail of the rolls and the quality of food. Drinks are also great with good music playing. Also get the lobster wontons. 10/10 recommend!!!

My food was horrible. Philly roll with barely any cream cheese and completely tasteless. My tuna was s discolored and I was afraid to even eat it. I did Uber eats so at least it arrived quickly but the food including packaging was horrible. Will not order from here again.

Got a mixed drink that was muddles and not strained…after it was served to me it started to look really dirty with all the muddled ingredients seperating from the alcohol. I took a sip to see what it was like…all i got was the bitterness from the lime and heat from the jalapeño. Couldnt drink it at all.
The food…sushi was good. Large scoops of Tuna tartare was scooped onto what looks like a wonton chip. Not appealing to the eye at all.
This was my first time there and probably my last.

The dynamite roll was absolutely delicious and I will be ordering again. It made me tear up a little because it made me forget about the rough day I had at work and put an automatic smile on my face. The ingredients taste so fresh and if you're a sushi love then this is place for you!!

The atmosphere was great. The food was your average hibachi/sushi. However, it was a bit pricey for the portion sizes and the amount of food given. I ordered the stir crazy hibachi- 3 way and literally received 4 pieces of chicken, 5 shrimp, 6 pieces of steak with rice, and about 6 cuts of vegetables. (Yes, I counted). I don't mind paying for food if it's worth it, but this wasn't it. Especially when there are other places that offer more for less.

Columbia has really great restaurants but Sakitumi is not one of them. The sushi (well, all of the food) is subpar to say the least, especially for how overpriced it is. My sushi looked and tasted like they bought it from Kroger. The best thing I had was my soft drink. This is not a recommended place.
If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Columbia I would try Inakaya. It will save you from the disappointment of Sakitumi and wasting your money

I think it’s crazy that this roll was 16 dollars. There’s barely any tuna on it, and there’s absolutely no flavor to it. I’ve never had sushi so bland before. I would not come here again or recommend this place. There’s another sushi places with better prices that have actual FLAVOR. You’re paying almost 20 dollars for mostly unseasoned rice and barely any fish. This makes the top 3 list of being the worst sushi I’ve ever had
Response to the owner: First of all, my review is completely unbiased, your food was just bad after trying it. I am from Atlanta and in town for a work trip. I knew nothing about this restaurant. Instead of being so delusional and self-centered, take the feedback and advice. Your sushi is just BLAND. To prepare sushi rice, you at least have to season it with mirin, sugar and salt. Everything just lacked flavor. Don’t worry about your sushi overpowering anything, it’s completely opposite, it was extremely underwhelming. Maybe you should go back to LA and ATL and learn how to put some flavor in your food.

Gorgeous plating and presentation 👌 I will also say the service was nice as well and some really great quality food, however for the portion sizes and dishes if your looking for something on the cheaper side of things this is not the place for you, but will recommend at least giving it a gander if in the area and craving moderate quality sushi

Disappointed is the main word. The place looks nice as you first walk in very classy. The drinks were great( the ones we ordered), but food was a disaster portions are very weird, my miso was cold and it took an hour to get the food to the table and place was not packed which ok we can be patient but the food cannot be cold by the time it arrives. All food was overcooked. Pasta, salmon, steak, etc. I was very much looking forward to this place but based on our experience, we won't be back any time soon, maybe we will try in 10 years.

I’ve been to Saki Tumi before and had a great experience. Last night, my friends and I came to Saki Tumi for dinner. The food was great, however, our service and dining experience was not pleasurable. The waitress, Alana (name shown on the ticket), was not attentive, not a great communicator or listener.
With several empty tables and booths, the restaurant was not packed with patrons or busy. My party had to keep asking another waitress (who was courteous) to bring straws and to check on our drink orders we were waiting on. Alana kept telling us that her manager’s friend was present at the restaurant and that she needed to take care of him. However, we constantly saw her talking to a man at the bar. I’m not sure if that was her manager’s friend. The fact of the manner is she had other customers in the restaurant. It seemed that Alana was paying more attention to the manager’s friend and wanting to please him instead of serving other customers.
After we placed our entree orders with her, she walked off. She never took our menus from the table. The menus were in a hard plastic sign holder, and were in the way. So, we just moved them out of the way and placed them towards the end of the table. When we finished eating appetizers, she didn’t remove the dirty dishes from the table. I placed a to-go order of the King Roll for my husband. Alana brought the to-go order to the table and tried to give it to one of my friends. I had to remind her that I was the one that placed the order. She apologized and said that she wasn’t paying attention.
Also, I placed an order of the stir crazy hibachi entree and asked the waitress if she could see if the chef could add more vegetables for an extra charge. She said that she wasn’t sure but would check with the chef and let me know. She brought out the entree without communicating with me. I noticed there were no extra vegetables. I asked her if there was reason why she didn’t communicate with me that he couldn’t give me extra vegetables for an extra charge. She said he wouldn’t. I expressed to her that she should’ve communicated with me as soon as she found out about the hibachi entree from the chef. When I expressed that the service wasn't good, she showed no genuine concern, nor did she proactively escalate my concern to management.
When she brought out the checks, we noticed that she automatically charged us a 20% tip. She said since the original reservation was for 8 people that she had to charge us a 20% tip. Five of the eight friends showed up and we sat at a regular dining room table. It was not in a private dining room or for a large special event. We didn’t see anywhere on the website that it says a party is charged 20% even if the entire party doesn’t show up. Is this your policy? Three of my friends originally said they were coming but then cancelled. The waitress didn’t provide excellent customer service. We didn’t think she deserved a 20% tip because she didn’t do her job effectively.
Customer service is very important because it can determine the overall success of a business and customer retention. Customers have a lot of options when choosing where to dine. My friends and I chose this establishment. With a declining economy, we expect to receive an acceptable level of service when we spend our hard earned dollars. Perhaps additional service training is needed to ensure your servers understand how to properly attend to guests (pre-bussing tables, not having guests ask for the same things over again, checking in regularly, listening and communicating with customers, etc.) outside of simply taking the order and bringing out their food.
It should not matter if a manager’s friend or a CEO is at the restaurant. Every customer should still be treated with the same respect and level of service that you would give to those particular individuals mentioned above. Unfortunately, we did not receive that last night and were forced to tip 20%. This is unacceptable.

Sushi was dry and not fresh. We complained but they said we never had unsatisfied customers before. You’re the first who complained. And the owner was sitting right there but did not care about our complaint. It was really waste of money.
Reply to owner’s answer: dry in my definition means overdone or been sitting for too long. And the meat steak was not fresh and served with a lot of rice. And yes, we went there last few months but it was so bad experience that I had to give this review even after a long time (because it reminded me when we went to Columbia again). When we complained, the server said she would bring the owner over, he was sitting just right there, few tables away. But he didn’t even come. I came from Asian country where we eat Japanese food a lot and great Japanese restaurants are all over country. I never expect good Japanese food in US after living here for 5 years but I didn’t expect this kind of food from a good looking restaurant like Sakitumi either. We could have said that we didn’t want to pay for our meal because we were not satisfied but we didn’t do that. And all these comments from the owner could have been mentioned to us while we were sitting right there, not when we’re giving low rating and try to defense our comment to look good on google. And as everyone can see here, not a single word to say sorry. This was how they treated us at their restaurant too. It obviously shows the attitude of how you do your business.

Had high hopes after many positive reviews and photos online. However, we couldn’t be more disappointed. The sushi is nowhere close to authentic, 90% of the roll is rice. Service was mediocre and server was extremely condescending. Being in the restaurant industry for 10+ years, I know the difference between being professional and genuine versus condescending and phony. Would not return or recommend.

My review is solely based off the the food since we ordered take out. We ordered a signature sushi roll, lobster wontons and combination hibachi.
Hibachi 3/5 - hibachi had excellent flavor but I paid for filet mignon as an add on and I can guarantee you that wasn’t filet… so minus 1 star there and it says it included squash and some veggies… like did you wave the veggies over the plate???
Sushi - for $18 you would think the sushi would be bigger than a quarter in diameter… the salmon placed on top was probably less than 1/4 in thick… if you’re looking for good sushi look elsewhere.
Lobster wontons were probably the best thing we ate.

Sakitumi is a cute place in a cute area but that’s about it. I paid $30 in total for what seemed like a snack and ended up having to come home and eat a second dinner. All of the portions at the rest of my table were tiny as well and the sushi was mediocre at best. Our server also very rarely checked up on us. I’m fine paying a lot of money for good food but it simply was not good.

Fruit was fresh and plentiful, the salmon over grits was very good, nice quality cut of salmon, pepperjack grits. Avo toast was well flavored and had fruit with it as well.
Super busy time but the staff was great and the atmosphere was very conducive to conversation.

Great menu. Cozy atmosphere. The staff cared about bringing you great service, and the owner was attentive to all the tables. Overall, outstanding experience and I look forward in coming back many times.

We had a mix up with our waiter but the manager really took care of us. Definitely will be back.

Service 1/10
Food 1/10
Drinks 8/10
First of all it was a hassle to get the server Parker to come to our table. We kept getting told we’re short staffed which is understandable but then he gets on his phone while we go to the bar for waters. Then ordering drinks and food was a struggle to do at once, I don’t recommend brunch here.
Also the parties that came in after us had to flag down servers to seat them, it just seems that they were not prepared to serve today. Basically do not come here if you want great service, great food, and don’t come here if you value your time.

Great menu and service, TOP rated in cola

I usually love this place and never leave reviews, but it was super disappointing tonight. My fiancé ordered our food to go for my birthday and he sat at the bar while waiting for it. It didn’t take long at all, but when he brought it home it was not edible. Tasted like an entire large bottle of salt had been poured into the hibachi.

The atmosphere is excellent; the inside is elegant and spacious. Our server was very kind, attentive, and professional. However, the amount of food that you get is not impressive compared to how pricey it is.

Good prices at the bar, and the food is worth the cost. It’s easy enjoy both sushi and hibachi from this restaurant.

Me and my Fiancé have been coming here for almost 5 years now. This is her favorite sushi spot and has been. Last night we decided to go after the fair wouldn’t let anyone else in. Our service was great and the food tasted good. Our bill was very high. Now we did have some drinks but honestly the food portion size compared to the price was pretty poor. Her sushi roll was extremely small, I ordered the steak and chicken and shrimp for $26 and hardly had any meet. We were pretty disappointed in the size of our meal and sushi options had clearly changed bc the selection wasn’t as broad as before. The Menu had changed with price and smaller food portions. With that being said we will be finding a new sushi restaurant to go to from now on. We came here because the food was good and reasonably priced. Not any more.

The time it took to get our food was unacceptable. Two people received their fried rice and ate. We yet to receive our sushi rolls. I would never return. Just so happened when we sat down we heard the table behind us was unhappy as well. I will not return as I saw others receive their food well after sitting after us.

We loved going here for brunch. It’s quite a drive from Augusta but, always worth it except today. Food was not the same as before. Very bland. Service was also very slow, that’s not thier fault I’m sure. Not sure what they changed in the back but, it needs to back the way it was.

Best sushi and service in Columbia
Visited 3 years ago
One of my favorite places in Columbia for sushi! A little more pricey, so I only go there on a date or on payday. Well worth it though! Good saki too

This is only the second time I have been to this establishment. The building itself is very unique and rustic looking. The service was great, and the waitress very attentive and knowledgeable. The only reason this place does not get 5 stars is due to the small selection of sushi rolls. I do believe this is why I had only been here once before. As for the food we ordered, it was fresh and tasty. No complaints overall, just wish the sushi selection was larger.

Ordered $70 worth of rolls (which is a lot of money for the amount of rolls I got) with one roll costing me $17. No roll should really ever cost that much and especially not at this place. All the rolls were fairly bland and no better than decent quality grocery store sushi. This place is overpriced and the rolls also took awhile too. Only giving it the extra star because I didn’t get food poisoning.

Great food. Service was kind of sorry, it was a Friday night though.

I had the chicken and waffles along with my friend. We both thought the waffles tasted like the ones you buy in a package and warm up. Then served with chicken nuggets.
The server seemed overwhelmed with the brunch demands. I had to go up to the bar order a second Bloody Mary.
Overall not impressed

More $$$ prices than $$, especially with the portion size but this is Downtown Columbia. Service was great and fast. The Lobster Wontons were great. Everything else we ate was OK; not really worth the price though. Our sushi rolls were loose, shrimp slightly over cooked and lacking flavor other than char grilled. My Blueberry Mojito was more soda water and lime. I prefer TakoSushi.

LOVE LOVE LOVE This place! Great variety, even sushi burritos & brunch on Sunday's! The owner is local, food is always fresh, and new items available often keep things interesting .10/10 recommend!

The food was excellent, we ordered a couple appetizers and sushi. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy but service was slow. Our server committed our orders to memory, repeated them back to us more than once, but admittedly I was nervous about getting the right food. He forgot a beer for a while, and didn't notify us of the lobster wonton being out until 10 minutes after we ordered them. He did however make a good suggestion as a replacement and once all the food came out, everything was just right. Will be back, and will hope for faster service.

Accommodating to vegans, two rolls on menu but will make other customs on request and will add plant based cream cheese if you bring it. Nice portions. Friendly & cool atmosphere. Open late & relaxed vibe.

Went here for brunch on Father's Day and it was absolutely a disaster. We waited on our food for over an hour and a half, but the restaurant was not even super crowded. We thought our table was the only one who was waiting a long time for our food, but when we looked around the restaurant, no one had their food! When we asked our sever about this, she said, "we have a small kitchen". The owner of the restaurant was sitting at the bar completely unaware of the situation, and when approached by someone from my table, he said "he had no clue". Didn't get up to see what was going on in the back, didn't apologize... Just "I had no clue". We even waited over 20 minutes to get waters to the tables, and don't even ask how long it took to get the bloody mary my dad ordered... When our order was taken and put in the back, our server came back and said they were out of chorizo sausage, but offered bacon as a sub, which was fine! However, when our food FINALLY came out (an hour and a half later), our server THEN told us they were also out of bacon, which was supposed to a substitute for the chorizo. Not to mention, the food was cold and below average. They ended up giving us a discount, but it was only removing one of the bloody mary's my dad ordered from the bill. Definitely not enough to make up for this brunch. Overall, horrible experience especially on Father's Day. The management is very poor, and they should not have their doors open if they cannot accommodate to the 8 tables that were there. Definitely would not recommend to anyone.

I was not a fan of their overpriced fusion rolls. Goat cheese and bell peppers in sushi? Not a fan of green onions either and they put them in most of their rolls. It was so noisy in there I couldn't hear my wife or waiter. There are much better sushi restaurants out there. I'm still trying to find one in this area. Won't be back to this one.

What a great place to eat. Great service and the food was amazing! You definitely want to find this place when you are downtown Columbia!

We eat a lot of sushi, and have tried many fusion restaurants across the country, and I can honestly say that Sakitumi is as splendid as it is unique. The tacos were wonderful and inspirational. The rolls were excellent, and the fried rice combination was filling and scrumptious. Highly recommended to sushi connoisseurs and first-timers alike.

This place was very below average. We came from out of town and were just looking for a quick dinner. This place had great reviews, but I was so disappointed after my meal. I ordered the steamed chicken gyoza and asked my waitress if it would have a crispy bottom. She said yes, but when it came it was so mushy. Next, I split the sushi burger sliders and the rice bun was so hard we couldn’t even bite through it. I went back and forth forever on what roll I wanted and finally decided on the fire island. The spicy tuna on top looked like wet cat food and I almost gagged eating it. I felt bad so I had to tell my waitress I filled up on appetizers because I only ate 1 1/2 pieces. We ordered the peanut butter pie and it was good, but the cake part was pretty dry. My waitress was nice, but she brought our checks without even asking if we wanted anything else. She also didn’t split any of our appetizers that we told her we were splitting so we had to Venmo after the fact. The reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because aside from it being mushy, my gyoza was very good. I also ordered a cocktail that was 10/10. I could’ve come in here and gotten a drink and appetizer and been completely satisfied, but the more we ordered, the worse it seem to get.

Well Sakitumi after 10+ years and countless thousands of dollars spent here it has come to an end. Never have i been so disappointed in service. This genuinely hurts as I have enjoyed this place over the years. I would love Management to reach out. Unfortunately as many of my friends have also agreed there will be no coming back to Sakitumi. All we want is the old restaurant back, this isn't a covid related issue this has been going on for years.

I wish there was a negative star option I because I would select a negative number for this restaurant. I called to speak with the “manager “ got the bar tender instead who told me after an hour wait my 2 orders were ready. No apologies for the delay just they were really busy at the time. Hi
Hmm she was getting paid while I waited and didn’t get paid !
