From 167 Hospitality restaurant group, fresh seafood highlighted in traditional Japanese style cuisine.
My wife and I just dined at 167 Sushi Bar today, and everything was incredible—just as amazing as we remembered from our visit almost a year ago. The food was so fresh and delicious, and every dish looked like a work of art.
A special shoutout to our chef, Stacy, who made the experience even better with his skill and warm personality. We left feeling thoroughly impressed and satisfied.
We can’t wait to come back again! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for exceptional sushi and a great dining experience.

One of the best restaurants in Charleston! Blown away by how good every dish is. Dumplings are a must, the sauce is unbelievable! Lobster bao is the pictures I shared which was incredible. Sat at the bar and Shane and Stacey were so knowledgeable and friendly!

Just call ahead and make your reservation and enjoy the wonderful and creative food. This was our 3rd time back and once again 167 Sushi Bar does not disappoint! I enjoy sitting in the bar seats watching the chefs create the dishes. We once again ordered several dishes and shared. This way I got to taste a lot more goodness. I am new at eating sushi and appreciated their wonderful and colorful dishes.

So we accidentally came here thinking we were going to the Oyster Bar. It was pretty funny when our whole table sat down and realized what we had done. But it was a good mistake. The food was very good and our waiter, Caleb, took excellent care of us. My husband had a bao that was on special because he is allergic to shellfish and I had the small omakase. I enjoyed my dish very much. I usually get rolls and not nigiri and was pleasantly surprised.

I think my expectations for this restaurant were way too high. The restaurant is extremely small, offering bar seating and two tables for larger groups. My boyfriend and I sat at the chef counter, which was actually really cool because we had the pleasure of watching the chefs in action. However, it was very noisy and I felt overwhelmed. I’m a sushi connoisseur so I had high hopes for the sushi options. However, our waiter recommended the Spicy Hamachi roll, and we were not blown away. We also got the lobster bao buns from the Specials menu and for $26, we only got two buns. I wish I could say they were worth the price, but they most certainly were not. They were very dry and not super flavorful. I will say, the duck fried rice and charred octopus were both incredible. If you get the opportunity to sit at the chef counter, ask the chefs what their favorite menu items are.

My girlfriend and I tried to stop by for a bite and a drink at this place. Some strange man with a long mustache working the reservation table sat us at the bar. We were then notified by the bartender immediately after sitting down that my girlfriend was “tipsy” and needed to eat before we were served drinks. With no bias, we were not intoxicated. The bartender then apologized multiple times stating it wasn’t her decision. She then left the restaurant behind us. I have dined across the country and this was the strangest experience and most distasteful thing I have ever seen from a restaurant. Avoid this if you can. The other 167 restaurants are miles above this one in every possible category. Charleston has so many amazing restaurants and bars. STAY AWAY

As locals, this spot has easily sky rocketed to the top of our list for most favorite restaurant in town! Head Chef Vuong is a mastermind and everything we had was absolutely delicious! The nigiri is so fresh and next level when talking flavors! Service was all around exceptional; we had such a fun time sitting at the bar talking with Vuong! He made fantastic sake recommendations and was very kind to us celebrating my birthday! Also, probably the best cooked octopus we've had in the entire city! Can't wait to go back!

We celebrated our anniversary here and it was all around amazing! The staff were so friendly and a blast to chat with. We were seated in front of the executive chef and he went above and beyond to make our night special. The food was delicious (get the Crab Rangoon roll, tuna sriracha, and the live sea scallop if they still are offering that seasonal item). Make sure to give yourself time to enjoy the atmosphere and I can’t recommend enough coming here!

very very good food and quality was amazing. tiny restaurant with intimate vibe. however, the staff was off. Unwelcoming and slightly rude? not sure what was going on, i understand not wanting to work on new year’s eve but for an expensive restaurant you definitely deserve decent service. not sure if i would go back because of the staff although the food was good

If I could give zero stars, I would. I should preface this review and say that I am from NYC and a big big big omakase girl. My partner and I typically plan for one omakase experience a week or at the minimum, every other week. We have been to the shions and nozs and nakazawas and itos, but we’ve also been to the lower range omakases that have sprouted all over the city (this is your kais and takumis) so we’ve been to omakase seatings that cost anywhere between $75 to $650 per person. I can honestly say the food I had at this 167 sushi bar was inedible. I do not joke when I say I left half of my tray untouched; I genuinely could not stomach it. It was disgusting. Old fish that tasted either like air or like a fishy piece of plastic. There was zero authenticity; zero creativity; zero care. I can’t tell you how disappointed we were after our hotel recommended this place (but then again, note, there aren’t too many sushi places or omakase bars at that in charleston). But I was under the impression that because the city has access to fresh seafood and fish, that the sushi would be fantastic. It was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The bar itself is like cutely decorated, and they have good beer on tap, and the crispy rice tuna was absolutely scrumptious but do not (unless you absolutely have to!) eat sushi or sashimi here. It’ll just make you feel sick, truly. And the miso soup is so salty, you’ll be reaching for your water as soon as you sip it. It’s literally salt water (and somehow oil…? there were oil droplets that sat on top of my soup - very confusing). And the best part (lol) was that this “omakase” experience cost $75 a head, and oh, it’s not even omakase because they literally give you everything pre-made on a tray - when the chef is not Japanese or Japanese trained, how could we have expected anything else? Honestly, this place just made me want to go back home even earlier…. Where food is actually good (at least the sushi!)

You can never go wrong with a visit to one of 167’s restaurants, and 167 Sushi is no exception! We love the vibey atmosphere and their creative twist on sushi. Some of our must-try favorites include the Nigiri (always a winner), miso soup, seaweed salad, crab Rangoon maki, lobster rice, and the tuna on crispy rice. Don’t miss their impressive selection of sake, available by the bottle or glass—it’s the perfect pairing for an unforgettable dining experience!

I visited Charleston from NYC to celebrate my mom's birthday with her and we chose 167 Sushi for the occasion. We were both excited to try it, especially my mom who is a local and had heard great things about the place. We ordered multiple dishes including the omakase, one of the most expensive dishes on the menu - the food was excellent. However, the service was not. After exactly an hour at the countertop bar, the hostess approached us mid-meal, while we were enjoying our food and drinks (and had just ordered another round), and indicated that the next guests had arrived - insinuating we should hurry up, making us feel uncomfortable and rushed. It was so awkward. At no point did they mention any time constraints for our table, and we noticed the hostess was quite friendly with other diners, whom we assumed were locals. It felt as though we, as perceived tourists, were seen as an easy target for their over-booking problem. I mentioned it to our waitress, and the hostess later came over to apologize and offered me a complimentary drink (though not for my mom). Unfortunately, the vibes continued to feel strained and we couldn't shake the feeling of still being hurried for the remainder of our meal. It's disappointing because the food was fantastic, but based on this experience, we’re unlikely to return.

Google reviews brought us here tonight. Love the cute settings, staffs were awesome and the bar seatings were intimate and fun. Love the Spicy Hamachi maki &.blue fin shasimi. Would have been a perfect meal but the Toro sashimi were not good! Toro should melt in your mouth and much lighter in color, almost milky but the 3 pieces we were served were stringy, tough and low quality. The seaweed salad was served beautifully but way too salty! We were so hungry and hate to waste,.so ate them all. Wished they knew off these important missteps. Otherwise what a cute and creative place.

The Duck Fried Rice is absolutely wonderful. We walked up on a Friday night and was about to get seated in a very reasonable amount of time. We sat on the bench outside and had a glass of wine while we waited. Staff explained the menu for us. My husband and I shared Crab Ragoons and Duck Fried Rice and it was plenty of food. We are from south Louisiana and well seasoned (not spicy) is part of our everyday food culture. The duck hit the mark perfectly, I would love to know what was used to season it. We will go back on our next visit to Charleston and also spread the word.

What a hurtful experience! While there are plenty of fantastic restaurants in Charleston, this isn't one of them. The sushi was served warm and mealy. It was old fish and when my server asked me how it was and I told him he just looked at me like I was crazy and carried on. The service was from those who have zero hospitality in their hearts. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Hurtful experience!

A little overrated, it can be loud and crowded. ordered a sushi roll and the sushi was left sitting in a salty red sauce and all i could taste was how salty it was. Dumplings were good and that dish had a nice sauce at least. Everything else was mediocre.
Also as a note, the space is not great for large groups or groups with children.

We had a great lunch here today. The sushi was super fresh. The soft shell crab roll was 10/10! I wish the portions were a little larger for the price you pay, but over all if it’s super fresh and a little more expensive, I would prefer that over quantity. It was about $70 with the tip for two 5piece rolls & one 8 piece roll (the soft shell crab roll). The service was incredible (like usual)!!

We are big fans of 167 raw, so we were excited to try their sushi location. It is tiny but we got there right when they opened & we were seated immediately without reservations which was nice. The food is pricey but delicious. The crab wontons that were on the specials board were outstanding. However, the thing that left a bad taste in our mouths, was when we ordered a sushi roll & my husband asked for a side of fresh wasabi. It is listed on the board as a $3 up charge which we would have been more than happy to pay. Our server/bartender awkwardly looked at the sushi chef who responded with ‘the head chef likes to reserve it for nigiri only’. It is ridiculous to offer something on a board & then tell your customer that they can not have it, because they want it with the ‘wrong thing’. Based on this alone, we will never be back. You could tell how uncomfortable it made the bartender to have to tell us no. I’m sure this is not the first time this has come up, & if I was the owner, it’s something I would seriously reconsider. Again, the sushi was delicious- but that interaction was distasteful.

A bar joint that may seem abnormally small, but its ability to capture the similarities of Japan is not far-fetched. Great food that tastes fresh and hosted by friendly staff with awesome service. Again, the food is fantastic with flavor. Don't let the prices discourage you as it may be more than what's available around Charleston, but quality is a key standard in 167 sushi bar.

Just follow my directions and send me a "Thank You" note later.
Get any sushi roll tbh - I fear that they are all good.
YOU HAVE TO GET the hot chicken bao
YOU HAVE TO GET the duck fried rice
YOU HAVE TO GET the spicy miso ramen
YOU HAVE TO GET any special they have on the board (they never disappoint) the best I've had are the Wagyu Cheesesteak Bao and the Truffle Chicken Wontons
If you followed my directions you will want kiss me on the mouth if you met me.

We frequest their sister retaurant 167 Raw, and decided to finally try 167 Sushi and it did not disappoint! We showed up on a Thursday without a reservation, but were lucky to be seated fairly quickly. Caleb at the front is a true gem of a person and host and made us feel so welcomed and relaxed as we waited for our seats. We were seated in front of the chefs cooking, which was a great experience and they were very nice and engaging with us as well as Jack our server. We had their special, a lobster bao which is now my favorite thing and I hope it stays on the menu forever. We also had the tuna crispy rice (delicious), a shrimp tempura roll and a roll with lemon confit - both were great. I can't wait to go back.

They were very well balanced, great textures, new flavors, and so satisfying. We had Salmon and Toro Nigiri, they were hands down the best fish I have ever eaten. They were perfect, you could not improve these dishes, absolutely impeccable. Lastly, we ordered the Duck Fried Rice with a poached egg; it was so luxurious. It was crispy, fatty, savory, and just a great indulgence. I will never forget this meal. Thank you 167 Sushi Bar for your mindful menu, and perfectly executed food.

Clearly based on the reviews we are in the minority but we thought the food was awful and the service was mediocre. We begrudgingly finished our plates because we were hungry and it was so expensive. I enjoy a small, well thought out plate and don’t mind paying a premium, but literally everything we tried was unoriginal and lacked any depth of flavor. We were so excited to try this spot given the reviews and were left disappointed. There are so many amazing restaurants in Charleston and this one just missed the mark for us.

We try all the sushi places in whatever city we go to, we are not experts, but this is our take on 167 Sushi. It seemed like they put some spice or salt on every piece of sashimi or sushi. We ordered a bowl of plain white steamed rice and even it had some weird spices in it. If you like that this might be your place, we didn’t care for it. We tried the sushi/sashimi with the spices on them then eventually ended up scraping it off before we ate it. They even put salt on the toro. We ended up finishing up what we initially ordered and leaving to another sushi place up the road. On a positive note, the service was great.

I’m gonna start by saying I can’t stand fish or seafood, and I only intended on eating a fish-free item on the menu. Then they came out with a bit of marinated octopus (I can’t remember the name) and I tried it… daaaang it was so good :) tasted very fresh and prepared perfectly. Great experience for my first time at 167 sushi bar! Fish was fresh and the ingredients and sauces paired with each dish were very flavorful and complimentary. Everything we ate tasted different from the last and had its own profile. The octopus was cooked perfectly and the Peking duck wontons were to die for. Our server was also great and the overall vibe of the restaurant felt like an authentic hole in the wall sushi spot with a large city feel.

Super cool quaint sushi bar. The rolls were beautiful and super delicious! The miso soup is divine and the poke bowl is the best I've had.

Pretty much perfection across the board. Only complaint I could muster is that the Uni we ordered tasted off. Upon letting the chef know he immediately pulled the tray of Uni he had pulled ours from, tried a few small pieces in isolation with clean utensils, and agreed they tasted off and he immediately comped the item. He then checked the next tray just to be sure he didn't serve bad Uni to others. This is precisely how food and customer service should work and I can't recommend this place enough.

I went here today to have sushi for my birthday today July 15th. The girl that waited on us was not the friendliest, I'm thinking a bad day maybe not feeling great she was not personable at all. I mentioned it was my birthday, which it is today and that I wanted sushi and here I am, she just looked at me, nothing not a smile or any form of emotion on her face, so much for an awesome birthday experience. Food was good, drink was light and delicious perfect for a hot summer day, but her attitude just made it a very bad experience. Never again.

Amazing elevated sushi experience! Food was incredible, service was great! Definitely pricey, but what isn’t these days. The first “new to me” place I’ve checked out this summer and walked away 100% satisfied!! Hamachi roll and octopus were insanely delicious and everything else we tried was delicious too! Def giving off the great intimate vibes of the original 167 Raw. Can’t wait to go back!

Great experience at 167 Sushi bar. Had seaweed salad, crab sushi roll & lobster salad. All excellent but especially enjoyed the lobster salad. Was a special for lunch and was especially delicious with plenty of lobster with a light lemon sauce. Cherry tomatoes, etc. Sat at chefs table and he asked me my opinion & I asked for extra lemon juice. He gladly added more..it brightened the taste & he said he would tell servers to add more. Loved being able to reserve a spot. So enjoyable!

One word:SUBPAR!
Atmosphere was crowded and intrusive, playing early 60s and 70s Rock Music, turning what should be a fine dinning and romantic experience into a cheap dive.
Then their's the one server for the entire establishment, does that tell you anything?
Lastly the food,I ordered tge duck fried rice and the lobster fried rice, and needless to say it was a mess, the duck was not fresh and deep fried, while the rice was all one note in flavor, while the lobster tasted like it was previously frozen, and yhe curry fried rice had no curry, imagine that!
It was outrageously priced, dirty kitchen, and shamful sushi chef's that clearly, have no respect for themselves nor their customers, prepare food that is one, not labeled and dated correctly as well as handled inappropriatly.
Unless you have never eaten sushi before and I don't mean good sushi, this would seem like fine dining, the ridiculous pricing for what you can get , not even a few blocks away for a tenth of the cost, should make anyone ponder on how long this establishment will last.....

The team and our server did a great job! We were rubbing later for a concert during Spoleto and we were served quickly and professionally and loved all 3 items we got. 167 is a unique sushi experience and one I am glad I had the opportunity to enjoy. I would come back - with a reservation and an open schedule to more fully take in the menu and great wine list. The 90’s-2000’s hip-hop was a big plus.

We got stuck waiting for our cruise most of the day in Charleston. Ran in for a quick bite to hold us over and we're not disappointed. The miso soup and crab Rangoon roll were absolutely delicious and the staff was amazing (they didn't get mad when the bank locked our card and they had to wait for payment: call your bank before you travel 😂)

So delicious! Thank you for making my grandmas birthday so special. The food was the best we had in charleston and the staff was so nice. Especially loved the nigiri, wontons, and cucumber salad

Best sushi in Charleston, hands down and one of my favorite restaurants in all of Charleston.
Service and food are top notch. Be sure to get a reservation.
Everything on the menu is good, I'd recommend trying several sashimi, nigiri and sushi rolls, then ending with the lobster fried rice or Udon shrimp noodles.

Best sushi restaurant, really anywhere I’ve traveled. The service is impeccable, they always have new & interjecting dishes. Most recently, we did the Omakase chef plate (chef chooses a variety of sushi), the special (walu) and a shrimp
Udon noodle dish. All top notch! The lobster and fried chicken bao buns are both SO good. I dream of their lemon salmon roll. Have reservations and I always park at the metered spaces behind the Harris Teeter across the street. Definitely in my top 5!

My wife and I celebrated her birthday dinner at 167 Sushi Bar and it was a great experience. We ordered the Salmon Shiso, Tuna Siracha, Spicy Hamachi, Hamachi Crispy Rice Special, and Duck Fried Rice. The sushi was delicious, but hands down the best entree was the Duck Fried Rice! Rice was super crispy and the flavor and the duck was amazing. We highly recommend checking 167 Sushi Bar out! The chefs were great and knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Enjoy!

This place was easily the best surprise from our trip. The food was absolutely delicious! Friendly and fast service too. Highly recommend.

I love it here. It’s great for a pop in and it’s great for a long chill. I was sorta testing the balance of those two things today. My…bartender? server? Ryan was a pleasure. Very knowledgeable and he didn’t bother me. I had one of the cheaper white bubblies and it was crisp and delish. Now on to the food. I peeped what was being put down around me and it all sparked my curiosity as well as my taste buds but I had to restrain myself; mainly because of the portion size but also cuz I didn’t want to leave there spending my entire unexpected refund check from a 2020 PA tax return snaffu. Yay me!! All kidding aside. I did enjoy the duck wontons, soft shell crab maki AND because I couldn’t resist…the tuna nigiri. I saw that flaked salt on top of that and I had to have it. Nothing here needs the side or soy sauce or wasabi. Please don’t ask for it.
I’m going to make this yet another “Cheers” spot cuz it’s close walking distance and they’re friendly. Once I get those non-tourist hours down, it will all be gravy…or should I say beet vinaigrette.

Wonderful experience at this restaurant! I loved the teamwork within the staff. Jake was incredible and accommodating. He knew all the dishes so well and gave the best recommendations! The food was so savory, flavorful and delicious! This is a must try! The octopus is hands down the best octopus I have ever tasted (not kidding). Beer and wine selections were great as well. The restaurant is very small, make sure a reservation is made. I highly recommend this restaurant.

From the moment we discovered the menu and made reservations, we were excited to experience 167 Sushi Bar.
It did not disappoint with its small but vibrant space. The service was phenomenal as everyone worked with a passionate energy that was infectious. The sushi was the BEST we’ve ever had (and we’ve eaten across the country and in Europe). Salmon nigiri was delicious. The shrimp tempura roll was so good we ordered another one. The shrimp fried rice was so flavorful that no one ever thought about asking for Soy sauce! The next time we are in town, we’ll be back.

Haven't been back to the original location since it changed to a Sushi Bar, and we are so happy we finally did made it back!
From the moment you walk in, the staff is friendly and make you feel right at home. The staff to people ratio is very high, so the service and pace in which you receive your food is impressive.
Our bartender/server was Riley (sorry if spelled incorrectly) and she was amazing from the time we sat down. She is always present when we needed something but never at one point did we feel rushed.
The food speaks for itself. You pay for high quality, and you get very high quality.
We can't wait to come back!

Off the charts sushi / grilled options. Extremely small venue so reservations highly advised or try your luck as we did. Late afternoon no reservations we were seated promptly at the counter. Server explained our options and off we went. Grilling octopus extremely tender and tasty. Wife and I shared a chef’s choice sushi / sashimi plate. Wrapped up with a duck fried rice. Cool trendy vibe and that’s coming from a pair of senior citizens 😊
In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger “ we’ll be back “
PS . People who complain about price get with the program. Fresh fish is pricey. If it’s too rich for your blood stay home and make yourself grilled cheese

Don’t miss the nigiri. I had delicious salmon and tuna- the best I’ve had in a long time!

This tiny place was packed when we arrived and I can understand why! Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The miso eggplant seems like it would be boring but it was the highlight of my meal. It was a little tough being vegetarian there, but it can be done.

Wow, this was some of the best sushi I have ever had, no exaggeration! The product was super fresh, the rolls were imaginative, subtle, delicious. The service was excellent, friendly entertaining. We had the dumplings, the Thursday roll (it was Thursday!), several nigiri that blew my mind, especially the buttery tuna with sea salt and olive oil, wowza. I would eat there on the regular if I lived locally. The decor was fun, but there is very limited seating, I don't think they could accommodate more than 4 in your party. Highly recommend!

Went here a couple of times. This last Christmas the service and food dropped off. They were more friendly the first time and they have changed the cooks, servers and all. It's a shame because it was a great place before.

We stopped in for lunch during restaurant week. WOW. What a treat. Had the miso soup, nigiri chef sampler and shrimp fried rice. Everything was delicious. Service was great! We will definitely be coming back.

We go to 167 Sushi at least once a month. This trip was restaurant week and we got three courses for $45. My first course was Miso Soup, the second was Lobster Bao Bums, and the third Duck Fried Rice. The Lobster Fried Rice is always my go to dish. It is always spectacular. This was my first time trying the Miso Soup and the Lobster Bao Buns and they didn’t disappoint. I will say that the Restaurant Week menu is a lot of food!

167 Sushi Bar is simply outstanding. We had lunch at the sushi counter today and were blown away by the high caliber of the service and the impeccable food. The toro and salmon shisho were excellent, as were the dumplings, lobster bao, and grilled octopus; the highlight of the meal was the duck fried rice, which might be the best entree we've had all year. 11/10 experience, we can't wait to come back!!!

Went here for poke since it's the first picture on their website only to be told you can trust what you see on the website as the menu changes followed by a pause for a minute then told we only serve poke for lunch. (Responding to the owner: No one working behind the bar seating on Friday Oct 14th said we could get poke to go as we would have) Really then why is this the picture you flaunt on your website. Waiter gave us weird looks when we complimented the food as it was really good after he asked about it. Seating is VERY tight and space is small. Overall staff made me feel like I wasn't good enough to be there or not the right type of customer after I walked 30 mins to get there to be told the website isn't accurate and the waiter treating us poorly. We could have spent A LOT of money here. I would've walked out completely if I wasn't exhausted and my feet needed a break from 4 hours of walking tours and Market St. Ordered 3 things for a break and left to eat dinner elsewhere.

The service and food was incredible. Caleb was our server and he was personable and explained all the specials. We only ate the specials that day and were blown away. The best sushi experience I’ve had was at Nobu and this was on the same level! Very impressed.

167 sushi was one of the best experiences I've ever had. It was by far the best sushi I've ever had. The service was great, drinks were great. Very small but so comfortable. There is such a variety of dishes and everything was incredible. You could bring that friend who won't eat the raw stuff and they will still have a great time. I live 1,000 miles away and can't wait to go back.

We were lucky to not have to wait to be seated as it was a busy night and the location is snug, but intimate. The food was excellent and I would definitely try the fried rice with a duck egg. Overall great experience and amazing staff.
