Modern American and Sushi restaurant, centrally located in the Jewelry District of Downtown Providence.
Got here just before the dinner rush (in from out of town) atmosphere and service are both spectacular upon entry. Everything we ate was so phenomenal, the soft shell crab small plate, the wedge salad with carrot ginger dressing (insanely good), and the Momiji Volcano roll- which was recommended to us by our server. I have not had such fresh and tasty sushi in a long time. Every bite had us salivating and considering ordering more despite feeling satiated! Can’t recommend this enough. Thank you, Somo!

Had an amazing and delicious experience at Somo! The staff and chef were extremely accommodating to our gluten allergy, and let us know that most of the sushi is already gluten free, except for the eel, eel sauce, and tempura. However, even the tempura could be made gluten free with potato starch & in a separate fryer & oil.
We enjoyed the grilled oysters to start, and got four sushi rolls - the hole in one, paradise, Richmond st, and eastern tiger. All were amazing and unique!!
The waitress was so attentive, and the chef kept coming to check on us - even brought us our meal and assured us it was gluten free and safe for us. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Tried this place with my girlfriend this afternoon. Nice atmosphere and chris, the waiter was very welcoming and friendly.
Scanning thru the menu wasn't overwhelming like most sushi restaurants. We ordered the edamame, grilled oysters and the spicy tuna pizza off the “small plates,” and a new york strip off the “entrees,”
The edamame had come out first and had amazing flavor with a hint of sweetness. The grilled oysters were great! The spicy tuna pizza was absolutely out of this world! The way the rice crust had a nice crunch on the bottom and a nice soft and slightly chewy top was absolutely heavenly, the tuna was plentiful and the flavor was exquisite. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, served with a nice glaze and mashed potatoes.
Our overall experience was beyond a 5 out of 5. We are so happy we discovered this place. The price was very reasonable. We will be dining here regularly for sure. Thanks for the amazing dining experience!
Side note, my girlfriend had forgotten her scarf at the booth and didn’t even realize it. Chris ran after us before we got to our car with the scarf! We were so grateful.

Happened upon this cute sushi place while exploring Providence. Great flavors and fresh sushi. The Wedge Salad was the largest portion we’ve had at a sushi spot for a starter salad, easy to share. The edamame came out in a bowl removed from their pods, so no messy fingers and it was drizzled with flavorful honey and spice. The rolls were excellent with a decorative presentation. Highly recommend this spot.

We went here for a lunch and had a mix of different things. The dumplings and Karaage were good but the Japanese Tofu dish was hard. The sushi was decent, and fairly fresh but not the best. The Udon with Shrimp was good and slightly spicy if not a little overpriced. That being said the service here was really good even though food took a bit long to come out.

Go here! You won't be disappointed. The rolls are delicious and so fresh. The martinis are also good (recommend the bikini tini). The owner was so sweet, he checked on us as soon as it came out to make sure everything looked good and again once we'd tried it all to make sure we liked everything. It's hard to find really good sushi in Providence but this was an absolute treat and we will be back! I had 3 rolls, caterpillar/Richmond street/carnival. All were absolutely delicious. I loved the sweet and savory combo of the dragonfruit rice and salmon in the Richmond street roll and a little salty with the soy sauce just evened it out to perfection.

Super cute spot went for lunch. The place was absolutely empty but somehow the service still left something to be desired. Drinks were weak and overpriced. Got the dumplings which were on lunch special for $8.00 but got charged the regular menu price ($11.00) and didn’t notice until after being charged. There were also small flies everywhere which left me feeling nauseous and disgusted post lunch. Maybe just an off day but I wouldn’t recommend/go again.

Cool looking place but the food was highest priced low quality sushi I’ve had in Rhode Island so far. Service was not very attentive. Crab meat was fake and didn’t taste good. The high prices made me think I was getting ready for a treat but I’ve had better sushi at the grocery store. I don’t ever leave reviews but the disappointment was just too heavy to carry on my own lol

I recently tried dining in at Somo Sushi, and from the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the clean, classy atmosphere. The host greeted me promptly and escorted me to my table, setting a positive tone for the night.
The service throughout the night was excellent. Our server was attentive, checking in regularly and providing thoughtful, friendly service. I started with the Korean dumplings, which were outstanding full of flavor and perfectly prepared.
For the main course, I ordered three rolls to share with my girlfriend, and they did not disappoint. Each roll was fresh, flavorful, and made to perfection. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and top-notch service.

Lovely surprise! The Korean pork dumpling, eggplant tempura and calamari apps were all outstanding. Sushi rolls were delicious, with wonderful pickled ginger. The chicken teriyaki dinner that my son ordered had generous portions and was tender and delicious. The ambience was lovely, and the service was timely, warm and friendly. We will definitely return

Terrible experience: service was slow and the food inedible. Fish was close to turning, tempura used for the rolls was stale and all other ingredients were far from fresh. The rolls weren't properly prepared and were an utter disappointment (for example, spicy tuna is a subpar basic tuna roll with a dollop of mayo-based spicy sauce on top).
The reviews have to be fake, can't even understand how this place is still open.

The best sushi in Rhode Island! I’ve been going here for years. They have the freshest fish and most flavorful dishes. So excited to go again tomorrow to celebrate mine and my partners anniversary. The owner Nino is increasingly knowledgeable on Japanese cuisine, and very welcoming. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

Literally the best sushi and Japanese food we have had in RI so far - and that is not said lightly. The drinks were also great and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. It made it easier to try multiple amazing small plates. The udon and karage were our favorites of the night, but truly nothing missed. We have also definitely paid more for less at other restaurants. Super friendly staff, easy to get a table and find parking - hard to ask for more, especially in the city! 10/10 would recommend and will be back for more.

I just had lunch here on a whim. I will start by saying I ate at an odd hour so service was quick. I ordered the iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing. Salad was cold the dressing had a good taste but appeared more like bite of ginger allover the salad did not look like dressing however had a good taste. My shrimp udon was unlike any I’ve ever had but in the best way possible that is if you like spicy. I love the fusion of the butter garlic and spice with an amazing broth I drank til the last slurp. Owner is from Egypt a very nice man asked my thoughts. I would definitely come back for the udon and I’d like to try the edamame which is prepared in a unique way

The sushi is to die for. Sooo fresh and full of flavor! The pork dumplings are melt in your mouth and the udon noodles are like pillows with an amazing broth and seasoning. Not to mention, the Mai Tai’s are simply the best I have ever had.
I highly recommend Somo for any occasion and to all Japanese cuisine lovers. There are other plates to pick from if you’re not fully a sushi lover. Definitely give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

My family and I received possibly the worst service of our lives while dining here last night. The restaurant was not busy fyi. Our server was terrible, never did she greet us, tell us her name, smile, or even check in on us once we got our food which by the way she didn't even ring in correctly. She completly forgot to put in my 8 year old sons order and never even realized. We had to flag someone down after about 15 minutes of waiting just assuming that maybe it wasn't ready yet, but nope she forgot to ring it in. When we asked for water she didn't even respond to us just kept walking by. Some time goes by and we noticed her giving water to other tables. We once again tell her that we need water and she finally comes by with only enough water left in the pitcher to fill two of our four cups half way. The food was average, we couldnt even fully enjoy it with the poor service we had received. Once we paid our bill this lady didn't even say goodbye or thanks for coming to us as we walked past her. I can't even begin to say how rude and disrespectful it is to receive this type of service after I saved up enough money to treat my family to what was suppose to be a nice dinner. Safe to say we will not be coming back.

My wife and I were looking for a new experience for Japanese food in Providence. Having never been to Somo, we thought we would give it a try. With no expectations, we were immediately pleasantly surprised by the location in the charming Jewelry district of downtown. As we entered, it felt open and inviting, and lovely Sophia, the wife and partner of the owner/chef, Nino, made us feel welcome as she showed us to our seats at the bar.
A comprehensive menu with original dishes, made ordering fun with a touch of mystery. Both of us were impressed by the great service and perhaps most importantly, by the well crafted and delicious food.
At one point, Nino, the owner, came over to chat with us. Our conversation with Nino topped off an already wonderful experience. His years as a Japanese chef gave him a sharply honed understanding of the nuances of the cuisine which he expertly transposed into a wonderful dining experience.
We already have plans to return with friends, because for us, an experience like this must be shared!

Food was mostly excellent. The dragonfruit rice was overcooked a little and the truffle fries were crinkle cut which was a little odd for a higher end restaurant. Also, there was some unsightly dust in the corner of our booth which was gross. Please instruct your host(s), although ours was very polite, from sir-ing and ma’am-ing and calling minors “sweetheart”. Was put off by it (I am nonbinary and cannot pass as such).

We enjoyed the calamari as a starter and then 5 sushi rolls; Kamikaze, Firecracker, Eastern Tiger, Carnival, and of course, the Richmond St. Each one was so delicious that it's tough to choose a favorite! The owner, Nino, brought us our drinks- Blue Moon for my wife and their Midnight Bull for me. He was so friendly and kind. He and Sophia, along with the relaxing environment, made our date night one for the record books. We recommend Somo to anyone looking for a comfortable and delicious dining experience!

Drove in from New Jersey and ended up at Somo. First impression was positive. Nice place and clean. We had questions about menu items and the owner was called over to our table. I failed to get the owners name but I have to say that in any restaurant I’ve ever eaten at, I’ve never encountered a nicer owner. I ordered the jumbo shrimp entree with udon noodles. I asked if the shrimp could be grilled. The owner said no problem at all. He was very accommodating and polite. In further talking to him, he’s very customer oriented and truly cares about his customers experience while they are at his restaurant. Very rare!!!

Visited tonight (Saturday) and the place was quiet and inviting. We requested a table outside and were seated by the owner, who was a friendly and talkative guy.
The menu wasn't earth shattering, but their selection of rolls and apps were perfectly okay. Nothing weird or unusual to be found, which is always a disappointment, but completely understandable.
Service was friendly, the drinks/food arrived quickly, and the atmosphere was very good. I'm not much of a city guy, so appreciated how laid back this spot was.
Everything we ordered was good quality in my opinion and portions were appropriate.
The two rolls I got came with a nice dollop of Wassabi, which I always hope for; normally I find myself asking for more. The ginger was sweet and mellow with a really nice color.
My date made an off-menu request due to dietary restrictions, and it was accommodated without hesitation. The owner even came out to make sure it was to her liking.
Beer list was "meh" and the cocktails didn't speak to me. To each their own with that one, but it was about what I'd expect. Not a dig on these guys, but is it really that hard to get Japanese beers? Would be such a cool draw if someone could pull it off...
Anyways, prices were all fine. $82+tip for two rolls, two drinks, an app, and a special order entree...no complaints.
I'd say go give them a shot. It's better than any sushi within 15min of me, seems to be in a good location, and boasts a pretty nice patio.

The Flower Tower of sushi at Somo is the best meal I have EVER eaten at a restaurant. Sushi is my favorite food and I've eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants in my life. I've never seen anything like the Flower Tower on any other menu. It's so unique and DELICIOUS. Plus it looks like a work of art! The dragon fruit rice and sauce has a slight sweetness that is a perfect complement to the fish without overpowering it. The portion is fairly large too - a ton of fish at this price point. If you enjoy sushi, YOU MUST TRY IT! Friendly service and fun atmosphere too.

It took too long for the food to come out, and the udon came out, but it was so salty that I couldn't eat it. Afterwards, I waited for a long time for the sushi to come out. The sushi wasn't really fresh and the rice was undercooked. It wasn't edible. The servers who treated the customers didn't care at all. The weather It was well over 90 degrees, but it was too hot inside the restaurant. I don't understand why some customers gave it good reviews. Completely not recommended.

This place slaps! My friends and I got the firecracker roll, the eastern tiger roll, the dragon roll, the dynamite roll, the Richmond st roll, and the kamikaze roll. They were all delicious. And the owner was nice enough to let us all park our bicycles in the terrace outside. It was really quiet for a Thursday, maybe not enough people know about this restaurant yet? It's pretty new. (Yes this is the only sushi spot in providence with outdoor dining!!) I would 100% come back here 🍣🍣🍣🍣

Fresh. Flavorful. Delicious! We picked a random spot for a quick late lunch, and it was perfection. We were greeted by the smiling owner, and he sat us and offered his suggestions as well. I have celiac disease, and am gluten free and dairy free as such. He did not disappoint with the delivery of the appetizer. We ordered the edamame which were drizzled with a hot honey sriracha that was absolutely scrumptious. The sushi was fresh, tasty, and I'd happily pop back in anytime. Thanks for a fab meal!

Nice menu. Friendly service.
They were out of a couple fish items but were willing to substitute to still make the rolls I wanted. I was super hungry.
It definitely was hot inside. Sushi took some time to get. But when it came, presentation was great! Tasty too.
I’d go back and would recommend.

I’ve been trying to find a good sushi place for about a year and the food looked amazing on google so i figured I’d give it a shot. I’ve tried a dozen different places so how bad could it really be? I got the sushi sashimi combo and man let me tell you, at first I thought it was a bit pricey but then I ate my sushi and holy moly this is THE BEST sushi I’ve ever had. Fresh and sooo tasteful! I can’t wait to go again soon!

Food is amazing. I've never had a bad meal here. Only weird thing is that I never see the place packed. Does RI not like sushi? Lychee martini is my absolute favorite to go along with my sushi. Will definitely be back. Hope to see more people next time

Stopped in for dinner this evening and had the most delightful experience. The service exceeded all expectations, felt like I was invited into someone’s home, Nino treated us like his most special guests. The food was exquisite, super creative sushi rolls, very fresh ingredients and you have to try the spicy tuna pizza! Looking forward to sampling the rest of the menu. Did I mention the wonderful atmosphere? Looking forward to my next visit! Thank you to everyone at Somo for making this random Monday a very special evening!!

Great food, great service. Loved the specialty rolls (we had the Momiji Volcano among others). The owner Nino was a super gracious host, chatted with us for a while and we'll definitely be back. His hospitality is top tier, comes from decades of experience as a chef on multiple continents.

Best of the best. I just landed in providence and I was starving. I asked the lobby for the best sushi spots nearby and they suggested somo. They were about to close when I ordered and the DoorDash driver was a bit late yet the somo team waited for the driver to give them my order. Delicious and amazing hospitality!! :)

We had a truly delicious lunch at SoMo. The food was very fresh, and it was clear that it was prepared to order rather than stored and rewarmed. The owner is super welcoming and friendly, and willing to accommodate some variations or special request. The waitress was very attentive to our needs, and our food arrived in a timely fashion. I enjoyed the udon noodles which were pleasantly spicy without being too spicy. The baby bok choy was cooked to perfection as was the eggplant tempura. My husband enjoyed the sushi deluxe, which again was very fresh and plentiful. I would certainly return. I highly recommend it.

This sushi place was a delight. Right off the bat we were greeted by the friendliest staff that was super attentive. The ambience to the restaurant is very intimate with dim lighting with a very spacious layout. The sushi itself was so tasty with many unique options. We had a roll with dragon fruit rice and it was very flavorful! The drinks were very well crafted. Would definitely recommend this place for the atmosphere and quality of food and service.

A work colleague recommended I dine at Somo Kitchen & Sushi and I'm glad they did because the sushi was delicious! I had the Volcano & Dynamite rolls and they were perfectly spicy, fresh and flavorful. The owner Nino was exceptionally kind and welcoming. This place was absolutely the perfect choice. Upon notifying the waiter I had shell fish allergy she brought me a plate of spicy tuna sushi which was good. When they brought my wife and friends plate of mixed sushi they were SUPER PLEASED the plate was amazing looking and per their claim absolutely delicious. I was jealous when the owner greeted us again to see if we were pleased I asked if I could have something like that plate my wife had with tuna he personally took care of it and the sushi they brought me was the best I ever had. The environment was super melo and service was right on point.

My husband and I were trying to have a nice date night and started at Seoul—this was not what we were looking for AT ALL so we stumbled into Somo. I cannot express how nice and relaxing it was. The atmosphere is quiet and calm, the music is great! The food and drinks are fantastic and Nino, the owner, even came by to make sure we were having a good time. I will be back, this place is a gem!
