Jackie's is GREAT food in a GREAT location. Located right on the waterfire circle, it offers a great view of Providence. It offers a menu of asian fusion and sushi. I had the Sesame chicken with fried rice. Everything was fresh and tasty. The portions and price were great. Highly recommend.

I found a metal staple inside my sushi roll, and the manager I spoke to seemed totally unfazed by this. They were unwilling to provide any kind of credit or apology and suggested I take the issue up with Uber Eats.

A Mixed Bag

Jacky's Waterplace in Providence, RI, offers a delightful dining experience with fantastic food and exceptional service. The atmosphere is inviting, and the staff is attentive and friendly. However, there's a significant caveat: the treatment of the server by management left a sour taste in my mouth.

The food was simply delicious. From the appetizers to the entrees, everything was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The flavors were bold and satisfying, making for a memorable meal. The service was top-notch. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed.

Unfortunately, the experience was marred by the way the server was treated by management. I witnessed firsthand what seemed to be a disrespectful and unprofessional interaction, which was disheartening. It's a shame that such a positive dining experience could be overshadowed by negative interactions behind the scenes.

Despite the unfortunate incident, I would still recommend Jacky's Waterplace. The food and service were outstanding, and I hope that management will take steps to improve the working environment for their staff.

This sushi restaurant boasts an absolutely gorgeous interior with breathtaking views of the waterway, creating the perfect atmosphere for a romantic dinner. Though we opted for takeout, the quality of the food was exceptional. The yellowtail liver was perfectly prepared, and the "Mr. Lonely" roll was an absolute delight. Jack's Cake Maki also hit the mark with its well-balanced flavors. We took a chance on the sushi sandwich, which was unique—perhaps not my favorite, but still fresh and flavorful. Service was quick, and the staff was friendly and engaging while I waited. Highly recommend!

The sushi was great, however everything else felt microwaved, I ordered the General Tso’s Chicken and 90% of the chicken pieces were hard and not even warm, the rice that came as a side to my meal did not absorb the soy sauce, the rice quality was poor, lastly we got the Triple Chocolate Mouse which tasted straight out of a supermarket, as a Mouse lover the cake was a disgrace, don’t take Jackey the tour guide’s recommendation unless you a sushi lover because sushi is the only good thing about this place.

Beautiful views, excellent dining, and excellent customer service.

I really did not know this place was here prior to being invited to my cousin's wedding reception.

The food was delicious and high quality, great portions! The atmosphere was light and peaceful. My cousin reversed one of the rooms with large doors. Really cool, it felt comfortable and intimate just us family and friends.

The few children who attended cleared their plates and were full until next morning. Ha! Ha! The speech done by the father-in-law was inspiring and made us teary. Lol!

I absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for excellent food and service.

Arrived at 725 for a 730 reservation. We were seated by 730. At 740 after not being greated, the hostess came over and asked if she could move us due to a seating chart error. We moved. We waited another 10 minutes before a server said she wasn't supposed to be our server at this new table but would have been at the first one, but she'd find someone for us. Meanwhile my date and I watched multiple other tables including a table of 6 get seated and attended to as well as the manger multiple times just walking by us and finally we heard him telling the original server to "just take them." Not once did a manager or anyone bother addressing us. After 30 minutes, we got up to leave. We addressed the manager at the front hostess desk on the way out, and he said, "we're busy, I don't know what you want me to do." The food looked delicious, but 30 minutes without even a drink order isn't worth it, especially when others are being served who arrived after.

My family and I (12 total) had dinner reservations. My Chicken Pot Thai was extremely dry.
My husband ordered medium rare steak tips.
The waiter forgot his order. He finally received his food about 20 minutes after the rest of the group had gotten our food.
Once he received his food, his steak was cooked "well, well" done and not the medium rare he asked (twice) for.
Although the atmosphere is very nice and we enjoyed our family time in the private dining room.

Pretty good! I didn't have anything I didn't like, the food quality was good, and there were a ton of options. I think anyone could go there and get something they'd enjoy. One complaint is that the special rolls are too big - I mean hard to eat too big. And the flavors are maybe a little bit to "fusion" for me - loses some of the beauty in simplicity that is inherent to japanese cuisine. Still yummy, though!! I would definitely go back - especially with a big group! The place is huge and beautiful, right on the water.

For the what they are trying to be , the ambiance, the atmosphere they need to try harder on the details. The carpets weren't vacuumed, the menus were worn, the bill holders were worn out the bathrooms had toilet cleaners in the plants . The food was good but nothing I couldn't get at Lemongrass in Warwick.

I am a returning customer because our first visit was amazing. We sat at the bar and Our bartender was a nice young lady who was very knowledgeable and attentive at the bar. Very pleasant the whole time and the food was so amazing. Couldn't wait to come back.

Then we came back...
Peter was his name, and disappointment was his game.
I asked for 2 Mojitos and I got 2 cups of gross sugary carelessness. My fruit and mint was not muddled or even shaken. He definitely just poured them in sequence over some lime and mint and handed them to us.
I asked him to make them again cause we couldn't bear to choke them down. I was very nice and polite but I'm not gonna pay top dollar for zero effort.
He brought the drinks back over...AND POURED THEM BACK INTO THE SHAKER! Added what I assumed was lime juice,(he did muddle them this time cause I asked him, even tho he said he muddled them the first time.)
Then redistributed the drinks from the shaker back into the glasses and brought them back.
After that he sat down and was folding napkins at a booth, away from the bar. Which on a Friday night seems strange to me.
Getting up to help the lovely young lady's but kinda avoided us and also had and attitude with another patron at the bar so it wasn't just us 👀
The food thankfully was fantastic except for Peter not hearing us about the wasabi on the side of a sushi roll and put all the sauces together on the side including the wasabi.(Had to ask someone else for a spoon cause he was sitting at the booth away from the bar 🤦) Probably would have been better sitting at a table cause the guy who was doing the table drinks seemed on his game.

All in all it was and uncomfortable experience and the only redeeming qualities were the food. Jackys Galaxy, they even have valet parking.
But beware of Peter unless you just want a beer or a shot 😬

I made lunch reservations for myself and my nephew. I thought there was valet, but it turns out that’s only for dinner service, and instead you can park across the street for $7 once you get your ticket stamped, which was fine. But good to know. The place itself; decor, location and setting was great. And we did have a nice time. However, I’m sad to say the service was pretty abysmal and left me feeling negative! The host at the front wasn’t friendly or warm, and we had to almost run after him to follow to our table, and without a word just walked away despite us obviously saying thank you. I wanted to show my nephew a nice dining out experience, and I know he did have that, but for me, I know how much was lacking, which is why I’m posting.

Our server seemed unhappy and also not warm or welcoming, as the man who greeted and seated us also wasn’t. I know it was noon on a Wednesday lol and I get that. But I was still hoping for a more welcoming vibe. The only person who had nice vibes was a busboy Andre who despite having nothing to do with our actual table, was kind and happy.

Our server seemed like she was doing us a favor even taking our order. When I asked for a sushi roll recc (I wanted my 7 yo nephew to try one for the first time) she said “do you like cooked or not, I said no like definitely raw and she recc’d cooked choices (so, not sushi). I still chose the Hawaiian roll bc it looked nice on the menu and I felt kinda pressured to just choose one, and it ended up being super basic with imitation crab and cooked shrimp 😢 not what I was looking for at all for a sushi spot I’ve heard so many good things about.

So yes, it is annoying to have a younger child at a table, but he wasn’t loud, messy or anything like that, there was no reason for her to seem to not care about us at all. I just wanted to help him learn how TO be a good guest, (like he asked if he could drink his soup with a straw LOL, but you have to learn somehow, right. He didn’t know any better but he wasn’t acting up or anything. Was just so happy to be there with me.)

Ok, so then he DID 👹 spill his Shirley temple, which I cleaned up with the 2 cloth napkins we had, and wasn’t really an issue. But when she came back to check on our food, I told her, and asked for replacement napkins. Instead, about 15 min went by and we never got any assistance with that. So I ended up awkwardly going up to the nearest station and since no one was there to ask, just took two more silverware rollups so that we had clean napkins. Eventually our server came back, with a 2nd Shirley Temple for him ?! Which ofc I hadn’t ordered, had just asked for replacement cloth napkins. He definitely didn’t need another sugar drink either but once she brought it I wasn’t going to not let him have it. Not like she would be back anytime soon anyway. And was charged for it, of course.

So yea the food was okay, nothing special or anything more than basic Asian fusion you could get anywhere, the service sucked, but the view was lovely, the place itself was decorated beautifully and clean, and the busboy was sweet 😭 I wish I could say better!! I think it’s a nice place to go, honestly, just for the location and view, but I didn’t feel welcomed or taken care of at ALL service wise. Idk if it’s bc I was with a child, so maybe there was an assumption we would be an annoying table or something. But he is really well-behaved and I don’t know why we were treated like that. We still had a nice time, bc I’m good at making things fine and nice lol. But boy, the older man host with the angry cane and the young woman with the beautiful double nose ring hoop, since I didn’t catch your name 🥴 you guys could really be nicer! Thanks anyway, we still had a nice time.

They must have a major major issue there. Those rats were real bold and plentiful to be running around the restaurant on a packed Saturday night.

We had a reservation for 7:45 pm during waterfire, arrived on-time, but were not seated until an hour later. We requested 20% off the bill as compensation and management told us that a reservation only means you'll be seated that night and does not mean you'll be seated at that time. The sushi was great. They made my $17 Manhattan wrong (it's a stirred drink, not shaken). I will not be back since reservations are meaningless here and management does not care.

Visited a year ago

Sushi Experience №116

While the food is high quality and reasonable value, the service and lack of attention to detail from the servers or management really ruined the experience.

After making a reservation in advance for a party of 6, we arrived on time and were told it would be a 25 minute wait. A full hour later we were seated. Service was painfully slow, and the server made multiple errors. She placed our combos incorrectly at first which resulted in her removing food from our table, not bringing other affected meals for more than 10 minutes later and not including the soup or salad that should have accompanied the combo. She also charged us for a special roll that no one ordered - which we unfortunately did not realize until reviewing the bill the day after.

We spoke with the manager who told us it wasn’t possible to be compensated in any way because this is just how it is during waterfire - an event that happens every few weeks for several consecutive months each year. We asked what the point of a reservation was if they couldn’t honor it and she told us it was just to get us a table but they can’t guarantee a time during an event. Rather than take accountability for the fact that they planned poorly and did not properly manage their reservations or tables to enforce reasonable turnover, she acted like we were lucky to be there at all. This had cascading negative impacts on the rest of the night as we didn’t make a follow up reservation we made for 2 hours later and had to rush to our train.

Any effort to reasonably communicate the delay or act in good will despite the terrible experience would’ve improved our impression of the restaurant, but the disorganization, lack of accountability, and entitlement from the management team makes this a no go for us for any future visits to Providence.

The only good thing is the environment of the restaurant. Food is okay but the service is Awful from my experience with a waitress.
She gave me utensil and plate in a corner of the table. I had to spread them to my friends, serving ourselves. We ordered the roasted duck first since it took a while and kept looking at the menu for the rest. When we tried to order again, it was so HARD to find our waitress to order the rest of food. We got fried rice to share and we had to tried so hard to find our waitress to get three bowls for sharing. We ordered Asian dishes and had to asked for chopsticks. Again and again, we were hungry without eating for a whole day cuz relocating in RI and jet legs, but still had to tried so hard to find our waitress for service over and over again. It's a tiring experience. I would understand if the restaurant and staff are busy, but 90% of the table is not occupied. That does tell something that our waitress is hiding somewhere to play with here phone or chilling and we had to take effort to get service. I pay more than 10% tip to the waitress which I think her service is overpriced already. She came back and asked me what does that mean, pointing at the tip. This is ridiculous. Tipping is a culture in the state, but amount also depends on the service. I'm so embarrassed when the waitress took away my plate and all my utensils away without asking when our dish's ready during the middle of our diner. All my friends were eating and I had to find her again and asked for chopsticks.
Too many to mention. This is by far is most tiring diner experience in my life in a seemingly fancy restaurant. I would never go here again because the service is so bad for my waitress and she's trying to make me embarrassed when paying. I'm not embarrassed at all paying 10%more tip but less than 15%. I think I'm too generous on this. I almost wanted to put 0.

Food was great. Would have given 5 stars if not for the fact that we ordered the Uni and were overcharged. Both their physical menu that was provided to us at the restaurant and their online menu have it listed at $18 but we were charged $25. It would have been nice for them to honor the $18 price that they have listed to their customers, especially since at $25 we would not have ordered it, but they did not. Our server simply said that he would make sure to let his future customers know that the menu is wrong.

NOT GLUTEN FREE. I have Celiac disease and even though I requested all GF food, like GF soy sauce and GF tuna rolls, I got VERY sick. This was not just from small amounts of cross contamination but I was served something containing a lot of gluten. The food is great if you’re not GF but if you are, please spare yourself the suffering and do NOT go to Jacky’s Waterplace.

Service was slow and we were sat next to left over dishes from previous tables that was waiting to be picked up on a tray for ages. The red wine was served warm and the legs were gone meaning it’d gone off. The sushi had us leaving with uncomfortable stomachs. Didn’t get sick but didn’t feel good.

Everything was amazing. Enjoyed a nice date night for our anniversary and we are so happy we picked this place. The atmosphere is fun, clean, and lively. There are outside options which was great. It starts to rian when we went and they happily moved us inside in the matter of a minute. The menu has tons of fantasy options. The drinks were also amazing. The service was on point. Our server was quick, accommodating, friendly, personable, polite, the list could go in. We are looking forward to go back !

A decent experience after a long walk.
The Vietnam spring roll was about average, as well as the Singapore fried noodle. (But the dishes had a lot of weight)
What surprised me was the tri roll sushi, which contained 3 different kinds of sashimi, with a thin coat of seaweed, that was awesome.
And the interior design was decent and clean, the service was great also.

Service is absolutely unacceptable. My family are out of town visiting the area for my cousin's graduation. We sat down for lunch at around 1:30 PM perhaps 30 minutes before the graduation rush arrived at the restaurant. We had not seen our server until around 10-15 minutes into being seated. When the server arrived with our drinks he was missing half of them. Which never arrived until another 40-50 minutes later. We had to wait an hour for 3 appetizers to arrive. And a total of hour and 40 minutes for 5 main course dishes. I wish they could have at least redeemed themselves with a decent meal. But their steak and asparagus stir fry tasted like eating pure salt. Their battered shrimp was 70% dough. And steak was overdone. There seems to be no concern from wait staff or management for their customers as the waiter didn't bother to check up at all. The multitude of times we had gotten up to leave for us to be reassured that the food would be out soon is down right decietful. The worst dining experience of my life. Please do not waste your money and time here.

To the manager: if you decide to run a restaurant in the heart of a college town I suggest you learn graduation schedules and be staffed to handle a full house. Especially during lunch and dinner rush. If not have the courtesy to inform your guests of your atrocious wait times.

We stopped in for lunch while visiting from out of town and were highly impressed. The outdoor seating has an excellent view of downtown Providence. Our service was prompt and the food was excellent! We had the pepper beef, mango roll, and the best seafood fried rice we have ever had! If we lived in the area we would certainly be back!

This lovely restaurant is located right on the providence river. You can sit outside, this is great during the summer, and a special place to come and see water fireworks. The food is very good, the service was nice. They also have a large selection of wine available, although some of them only available by bottle. They have a beautiful salt water fish tank. Also the have a sushi bar.

The entire experience was awful. The host and a server were screaming at each other when we arrived, the service was poor, and there was a chirping sound through the whole meal (apparently the heater was broken). The lights were very dusty, and the whole restaurant just felt dirty. Another party was extremely loud and obnoxious; not the fault of the restaurant, but it was part of the experience. The worst aspect of the night was the disgusting food. It looked unappetizing, it tasted off, and it was not even hot. I went to the other location previously, and it was was totally fine. I am not sure why this place is such a train wreck; the location is great and it has good reviews. Very unpleasant evening.

Jacky’s used to serve the tastiest dishes and we went back last night after not going there for awhile. To say we were disappointed is a gross understatement. In one word, the food was AWFUL yet the prices are high. We ordered the whole fish with soy and scallions for $40 and not only did the dish have no taste whatsoever, but showed up with limited fish on the bones. We also ordered Shanghai noodle with chicken, beef and shrimp. The noodles were not fully cooked and it was like chewing rubber. They were hard and tasteless. We expected noodles to be crispy based on the menu description, but instead they were far from crispy. They were cold and beyond difficult to chew. The meats in the dish were not cooked nearly enough either and difficult to chew as well. Not to mention meats were tasteless! The only dish we liked was the garlic bok choy. Also, we introduced our friend to the restaurant last night and she ordered cashew shrimp and scallops. She only took a few bites of her meal and left the rest, as it was not tasty at all to her. A complete disaster of a meal with a $153 price tag. You are paying for atmosphere only, certainly not for the food. Stay far far away if you are looking for a satisfying meal.

I never review anything, I wish it would let me give a negative rating. The worst restaurant experience that I can remember having. I opened the menu and stuck my thumb in a price of chewed lettuce. Then some insect was flying in our face, which I get it it happens. Then there was a party downstairs who started blasting puertorican music to the point I couldn’t sit in my chair because it felt like I was a teenager in club hell. The waitress and manager didn’t do anything about any of it. I refused to order after the chewed food in the menu but my girlfriend did and she was very disappointed. 50$ for beef and rice and one drink… disgusting experience

Amazing food, service was on the slow side due to it being a busy night. Our waitress seemed to be juggling too many tables and wasn’t as attentive to us. We requested to be seated by a window/wall and away from people due to having my 92 year old grandmother with us but they wouldn’t accommodate us. The hostess and manger seemed unhappy to do their job and were rude to us when leaving. As we were leaving weren’t greeted goodbye but people after us were. Very rude along with there was an issue with valet and we almost had to pay for parking when valet is complementary!

The drinks on the menu were all pretty sweet, next time I would just order a standard drink instead of one from the menu. The sushi is good, the Chinese food I would say was okay (found the chicken to be a bit stringy/chewy) but I would definitely go back for the sushi, appetizers and the dessert. I’ll try the other menu items in the future and update my review accordingly.

I generally don’t leave reviews unless they’re five star reviews, however this experience was so bad I have to relieve a review. We have been to this location multiple times over the years and the food has always been decent and good however this recent time we got multiple plates of bland bland food. I’ve spoken to my friends that also frequent establishment and they have reported the same issue. Would not recommend to anyone. On a positive side the wait staff was amazing and so is the hostess. Also they have a cool little robot that delivers food.

This location is in a popular area along the waterfront. Valet parking is complimentary when dining in the restaurant. This is a beautiful area to stop in for some cocktails and a bite to eat. I ordered the white sangria with fresh fruit and the Hawaii Roll. The sushi quality was definitely to my liking and fresh! I loved my experience. Shelly our server was great. Drinks and food came out quick. The patio was perfect for overlooking the waterfront views while having a refreshing glass of sangria. Would definitely come back. Take a walk along the waterfront when you're done.

We had 6 oysters, an order of pad thai, a salmon roll, and an uni appetizer with 5 pieces of uni which came out to ~$100. Overpriced for what it is. A $16 salmon belly roll was 4 small bite sized pieces. The pad thai was good, but both the oysters and the uni were not as fresh as they should have been. If it were just the uni I would have given it a pass because thats usually coming from the west coast (and uni is very unforgiving when it comes to freshness) but there is no reason for a higher end seafood place in Providence not to have fresh new england oysters. They were very fishy. The service was fine, no problems. The issue is that they are charging high end prices in a high end area but they don't have high end quality ingredients, and a restaurant probably shouldn't be called a "waterplace and sushi bar" if the seafood isn't great...

Before I start, let me clarify: I used to quite like this place, and its 80s trashy-fancy schtick. View of the dank canal, the Biltmore, etc. However, the last two times have been bad, and last night was . . . catastrophic. Chaotic waitstaff, slow service, empty tables. The staff was inexplicably unpleasant: I ordered two $14 glasses of rosé (Whispering Angel, mhmm) that the waitress, who, by the way, was visibly intoxicated, came to pour our wine from two tiny carafes. She proceeded to set out the glasses and then violently splash the wine all over the table, first one glass, and then the other, saying nothing or reacting in any way. At this point we realized we were in a David Lynch film. I looked over pleadingly to waiters, who stared through me, walking up and down purposefully but empty-handed, interacting with no-one, vanishing behind doors and large fish tanks (home to noticeably fewer clownfish than before). There was the obscure sense that something terrible had recently happened, and was likely to happen again, soon.

The half-squandered wine, unfortunately, was room temperature; and when I politely asked for new glasses I was angrily informed that "it is hot outside" -- and I had to fight for a pair of rancid g&ts to replace it. (Don't serve wine, esp. $14 wine, if your cooler is the latest casualty of our warming planet.) The food was edible but not good and half our special roll ($18) was missing. We couldn't wait to leave, but it took about fifteen minutes to get our check so we could pay $65 for the delights of Jacky's cursed Atlantis.

My bf and I came here for dinner, he went to deal with parking and I got us seated. Had reserved ahead of time and was seated very quickly. Waiter brought 2 menus and waters despite bf not being present- great! Bf came in, we ordered cocktails and apps. Apps came quickly & were stellar. Got the gyoza, cucumber nime chow, and sweet potato tempura maki. All perfect. Drinks took over 20 minutes until waiter finally came back, we asked and he told us the ticket hadn’t gone through. When we did get them they were great. Very strong and tasted lovely. I had the Asian pear martini. Entrees were well portioned but subpar, low quality chicken & overall pretty flavorless. Waiter did bring me chili oil when I asked, which was great, a lot of places don’t even have that. Overall the meal was just fine, a little disappointing. Service was friendly but slow. Definitely not what I would hope for how expensive it was. Probably will come back again to sit at the bar and just have drinks & apps.

Terrible experience!!!
I rarely give 1 star to a place but my experience at Jacky's was not good.

1 star was for the Great location and ambience, clean restrooms !!

Food- The menu is extensive. I had ordered California rolls for starters and was excited to have them. But they came broken, possible due to overfill. The rolls were breaking when I tried to dip them in the sauce, which was kinda annoying. I have posted a picture of the rolls.

I had ordered a drink but the server forgot to get it till the end ( the restaurant wasn't crowded) !!!

The Singapore noodles were good.

I felt the kind of service wasn't great either. We were made to wait a long.

We didn't reserve and had just walked in the place. I asked if we were supposed to reserve to which the server said its not necessary but good to have. So, we were given lounge seats which we were fine with but not really great.

Overall, it wasn't really a good experience for me.

I’ve lived in Rhode Island for over 10 years, and I have never had such an unprofessional experience like I did today. If you know me, you know I am kind patient person and a generous tipper… I waited 45 minutes at a table before I was forced to call over a server in order to be acknowledged. Then I was told that I wasn’t in their section. I then spoke with two other employees, none of which agreed to help me or my party of 2. After being seated for an hour we decided to leave. On the way out I spoke to the manager, or should I say, I tried to speak with the manager. This man would not even make eye contact with me while I tried to explain. I am so disappointed.

Went for lunch made reservations. The food is a fusion of cantonese and Japanese american style. Interesting mix. Service was little slow but good. The views are good if you near the window so ask for a table and they have an outside terrace that was closed maybe due to the time of the day. The sushi we ordered a la carte. Rice was good enough but would of needed just a touch of warmth for us demanding sushi lovers. Fish was sliced well, fresh and always look for the list of available fish. Had the lobster vermicelli which is their interpretation of the lobster sauce from take outs, was good with white rice and did not taste too much MSG. Had the steamed scallops on the half shell with vermicelli and soy sauce was little over cooked but is simple dish but difficult to time it perfectly but was good enough. They have lunch specials weekdays except Friday and weekends. Will come back if i come back to town but will try dinner..!!! FYI restaurant is on the pricier side but normal for sushi and seafood…!!
