HIROKI「 宏樹 」is an immersive soulful Japanese dining concept deeply rooted in tradition and technique. The menu is overseen by Executive Chef, Hiroki Fujiyama. HIROKI is located in the historical neighborhood of Fishtown, Philadelphia.
The food at Hiroki is excellent. This was my first omakase experience, but I felt that the selection was thoughtful and well-prepared. All of the fish was super fresh, and the wagyu beef melted in your mouth. My only bit of feedback on the food is that the dessert was a was a little simple for the price point, but this is a minor detail. The portions were great, and we felt full after all the courses.
The service was top-notch. We had three servers, and each of them was warm and friendly, and they took the time to explain each dish as it came out. The pacing of the dishes was also perfect. I couldn't ask for more.
However, be advised that in addition to the 20% gratuity included in the bill, a further tip is expected. This is not stated on the website or on Resy, and you would only know this by reading online reviews. From what I understood, the gratuity goes to the back of the house and operational costs, and the added tip is for the servers. We were happy to support the people who made this wonderful evening possible, but to avoid frequent confusion from guests, I think they should just bake the 20% gratuity charge into the price of the meal. I'm guessing they set the prices this way so as not to scare off potential customers, but I think a lot of people aren't aware of this practice, get sticker shock, and end up leaving them bad reviews. I just feel for the servers who have to explain this policy every evening, as it creates an awkward situation and surprises most guests. After gratuity and the added tip, you should expect to pay at least $200 per person.

Had what may have been the best Japanese dining experience I’ve ever had! Also my first Omakase experience - just to put it in perspective. Beautiful setting, though the tables are definitely cozy, and lighting is dim (if you’re middle age, bring those readers - I forgot mine!). Anyhow, I didn’t need the readers because someone at my table suggested we do the omakase and it was wonderful! I can’t tell you what I liked best - most dishes melted in my mouth, it was absolutely delicious! Thank you for a great dinner.

May be the best sushi in Philly and it by far the best omakaze experience in the city. Our waiter dustin curated the the sake pairing and it was spot on for each course. The Wednesday night experience was very intimate while there were only 6 people dining with two sushi chefs. Even our menu had a happy birthday statement. The food was amazing and we ordered more at the end despite being perfectly full. To top it off, the Japanese toilet in the bathroom was awesome. Truly a luxury experience worth the price.

This was truly a life changing dining experience that I am so grateful for. The atmosphere is intimate and beautiful. The service was incredible from the moment I entered the building. The omakase was perfect. I savored every bite and enjoyed the connection with the chef. My evening at Hiroki felt like a dream that I hope to experience again.

Woooooooow this freaking restaurant was ridiculously delicious. I will forever fantasize about this food. Amazing experience for the food lovers. We checked out this place to celebrate a birthday, which I highly recommend since they are quite pricey. Perfect place to commemorate a special moment.
Great attention to detail.
The servers make you feel catered to. We got to see the chefs craft the dishes right in front of us. It was delicately prepared and served, and the servers explained all the dishes brought out. Got to taste a variety of fish cuts from all over the world.
They have an insane miso cheesecake at the end that blew my mind. I cannot wait to go back. 1000% recommended

Exceptional cuisine! Awesome environment (built by my friend Ben Workerman!) and friendly/ informative service. We love the circle front door and warm interior. We went with the sake pairing which we enjoyed and went will with our omakase. Loved crunching down on the soft shell crab little bite. A bit pricey, but worth it! Will definitely return. I rank it a 3 out of 3 drink review (coke, beer, sake).

This was our first omakase dinner experience ever and we absolutely loved it. Watching the preparation was an art form in itself. Every dish was amazing and fresh and well thought out. An incredible and unique experience for sure. This was some of the best sushi we had ever had. The toro, the Black Sea bass, the sea eel, it was all just incredible. Do not skip this place if you like omakase.

Outstanding omakase restaurant! The dishes are elegantly plates and tasted fantastic! Interesting selection of sake. Great service and relaxing atmosphere. Their sushi rice was a bit sticky, which was not the standard texture I expected. Otherwise perfect!

Came for my 42nd birthday with my 9 year old. Staff was welcoming, accommodating, and included my child in the experience.
Every day we try to find or favorite dish/course that was the best. Every time we choose a different course that is best and revisit each coarse.
I want to come back soon

Don’t waste your money. Hiroki is sadly overpriced for a mediocre dining experience. The food is great, good flavor and variety though the meat course was brisket, a very strange choice. However the service was not good, for more than 150$ pp we expect high end service, and found the service truly impacted the meal. We were rushed from the moment we walked in, with the whole 20 course experience taking 1.5 hours. The servers seemed angry to be there, making frequent mistakes and the attitude as well. Maybe this is because the 20% service fee that the establishment adds is NOT gratuity. It is just an added cost. Be prepared to add gratuity. Overall for more than 200$ a person, this meal just doesn’t add up. Pick a place with great service that allows you to sit and enjoy. Would never dine at Hiroki again. Disappointing as we had other fantastic meals in our week in Philadelphia.

I initially thought this was a high-end restaurant with beautiful decor and ambiance that matched our expectations. However, we found a HAIR in our salad! Both my friend and I have straight hair, but the one in the salad was curly. When we informed the waiter, they did NOTHING and didn’t mention it again throughout the meal. I was both furious and speechless. We deserve an explanation and at least an apology.
Furthermore, the fish in the sushi was incredibly dry and had a mushy texture, almost like it was pre-made. It was absolutely not worth the price. To top it all off, a 20% service charge was automatically added to our bill, which made us laugh out of sheer frustration. I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

Excellent food and experience. Best sushi I've ever had
Edit: my original rating was lower. There was an initial misunderstanding of the tipping policy. Gratuity is included as expected, so I am updating my review. The director of operations was very courteous in his explanation and is making sure it's not a recurring issue.

First time back this year and left disappointed and hungry. Subpar ingredients that did not taste fresh or nuanced. Zensai was bland. Ginger was old and soggy. Waygu was overcooked and tough. Sushi came apart from rice to what amounted to a crumbly sushi-a first. Fruit tart had strawberry that was overripe. Nothing stood out as extraordinary. Just generic.
This was an elegant ambiance in an intimate setting. The detail and pride in each dish was evident. The omakase was expertly thought out and a pleasure to partake. But that is all in the past. As mine was the first rave review on yelp upon hiroki’s opening, and one that enjoyed chef Hiroki in action many times hence, I now leave this with definite sense of closure. It’s a shame this costly experience ($450 for 2) no longer warrants it or any consideration. Stay away.

Wine was great! Sake was great! Food was amazing! The service by the chef was amazing! The waiter was asking for an extra 20% tip over the 20% tip we had already paid! I forgot my beanie that I had an emotional connection to and they never answered any messages regarding that! Tried to contact them everywhere and I even knocked the door a little bit before their opening time! Sadly after two days of trying to get in touch with them I had to leave town!

This is the worst omakase I have ever had. I was visiting Philadelphia. In NYC there are omakase less then 1/2 the price that are way better. One of the chef was amateur, the rice was falling apart. The scallop he made way different than the other chefs. The first pic was the scallop he made for me. The second pic was the scallop the other chef made for the other guests. The Aji sushi I had tasted very fishy that I wanted the spit out the piece, the worse piece of sushi I’ve had at any omakase I’ve been to. Would not recommend this place to anyone. They also requested tip when they already charged 20% service fee. Prior to entering they said tip was not required because of the 20% service fee. This is also written on resys when I made the reservation.

Actually good on an international level. I could probably name a few with similar quality but cheaper in LA and NYC. But this would be the crème de la crème of Philadelphia. Exceptional wine/sake pairing.

Have reservations today for 2 at 6pm. Maybe it’s april fool, because this place is definitely a joke.
I had other omakase experiences from $70-$120 and all of them are way better than this place.
For $155 price charges per person, I expected that they gonna use higher quality, high value ingredients instead of poached egg or braised pork.
The food is nothing special, i can get it from any other regular sushi place. They didn’t put any attention to the pieces.
This place is definitely overrated. Don’t waste your money!

The server is just absolutely ridiculous in this place. We paid the food was $500 and the 20% tip was already added to the bill. The server did not say that when we pay the bill and asked is to choose tip again. We ended up paid almost 50% tip for a mediocre experience. We saw the bill and tried to contact the restaurant. And no response whatsoever. Phone call, email everything.

They need to offer more options because right now only one course is available and it is 155$ per person. The big problem was my girlfriend was full before we got to the really good sushi at the end and she didn’t get to experience her favorite tuna roll which was disappointing for me. I should have checked the prices before hand, I was not expecting the total to come out to 420$ for 2 people. 20% tip is mandatory. The experience was good though. The food was fresh and the restaurant was clean and well maintained.
My one other complaint was that they didn’t have an eel roll. Which is my personal favorite. A lot of the sushi at the beginning was similar, and the appetizers at the beginning felt extra. They need to have a sushi only option.

The food was good, this was my first Omakase dinner and mostly enjoyed the food.
This dishes were mostly great. The toro in particular made my night, just spectacular fish served on perfect rice.
The restaurant should stick to fish however, as unfortunately I have to say the wagyu beef was a little bit of a mess in terms of flavor and cooking technique.
Service really left something to be desired. I felt like the service was either tired or disinterested, sort of like a tour guide who has given the same speech four times already today. They also weren't knowledgeable about the food when we asked them questions. For $155 per person, with mandatory 20% service fee added, it's really sort of unacceptable the quality of service we received. Kind of a bummer.
The other big negative is the density. The tables are packed in too tight, you'll be part of your neighbors' conversation whether or not you want to. They really need to remove a table or two. It's genuinely a distraction from the meal.
Between the service and tightness I think this is a one-and-done place for me.

First of all, I rarely write a review for a restaurant unless it’s pretty bad. This place was all fluff and no substance. It’s a complete fraud of an omakase experience and I’ve had many ranging from $50 to even $400/person. Menu consisted of multiple servings which often felt like “fillers” because they don’t want to give you what you pay for and want: good quality fish. Many of the pieces were flavorless and to me that's a big sign that it's not fresh or good quality.
I get that sometimes you want to experiment and bring a bit of fusion into the mix, but the omakase experience shouldn’t be compromised for this. The quality of the fish was mediocre, subpar even. On top of that, the pieces were sliced super thin. Why are you skimping on the fish when it’s advertised and charged as a premium omakase experience? Maybe…maybe 2-3 of the pieces were good. The rest looks like something you’d get for $25 from a takeout place.
Yes, the front door is big and fancy. The lighting and seating look nice and the presentation on some of the pieces are pretty, but all this I feel is to distract you from the fact that it's poor quality fish/sushi. This was by far the most disappointing omakase experience I’ve ever had.

I took boyfriend here for his birthday and we were extremely disappointed.
Instead of an intimate dining experience you feel as if you're being constantly surveilled as you're served the the most underwhelming bland repetitive sushi over rice. You are asked how you like each dish and you just have to smile and nod while they bring you the next mediocrity. Everything had little to no variation - no standout flavorful dishes, no experimentation or demonstration of any skillful cooking, and no ambience or dining space with any charm or aesthetic allure besides the outside door.
The price tag honestly felt more like highway robbery than any semblance of a high end dining experience. This place is just a glorified sushi restaurant and shouldn't even be allowed to define themselves as omakase. Don't waste your money.

We went to Hiroki, to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We had the Omakase and a bottle of wine. Probably we should’ve got the sake pairing because the other customers had it and said it was really good. We enjoyed our wine too. I liked everything in the omakase course except one which was very fatty for my palate. Everything was amazing, the food, the service, the amazing vibe and their hospitality. They printed his name with a happy birthday message on the menu which i found very cute.
P.s: they have counter sitting and dining tables, I would recommend counter if you want to see the chef in action.

Read a stellar review before coming here and Hiroki did not disappoint!! I eat omakase on a fairly frequent basis and I have never had a meal like this. The fish selection was unique and the order of the omakase was beautifully thought out. The fish itself was beautifully seasoned without too much fuss — the chefs really let the freshness of the fish and the unique flavors and textures speak for themselves. The service and atmosphere were impeccable!! An overall phenomenal experience and we can’t wait to go back!

My wife and I came here for a birthday date and ate omakase. It was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The dishes were unique, with flavors I’ve never experienced before. Very unique dishes to start with all different flavors, textures, and appearances. Then came the sushi. The sushi was incredible - it ran the gamut of all different kinds of fish. Some were smooth and melted in your mouth, some were punchy flavors and colors. I also got the sake pairing, which I highly recommend. The meal was a complete tour of flavors and experiences and we left feeling amazed and satisfied.

Had dinner at Hiroki last night. The food and the atmosphere where amazing. The courses were well thought out and the staff was attentive. I was really impressed with the nigiri course. The seasonal selection of fish was amazing.
My only complaint is that I wish they’d tell us more about the fish during the nigiri course. What region in japan is the mackerel from? Why is the needle fish shaped so uniquely? These pieces were served with little explanation. I asked a lot of questions and the staff gave great, informed answers but I wish some of that information was given with the pieces.
Hiroki was amazing and I will be back. Anyone who enjoys omakase sushi will have a great time at Hiroki.

HIROKI was so disappointing that I’m writing a review mid-dinner.
The appetizers do not have any flavor. In fact, the wagyu beef with black truffle shavings was overpowered by the amount onion in the dish.
Worse, the sushi was not any better. It had an overwhelming amount of wasabi. At times, your taste buds will burn off.
I would not recommend HIROKI at the prices they charge.

Outlandishly good food. Chef Hiroki Fujiyama brings an expertise and care to his food that you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. The omakase menu can also be paired with a Sake selection. During my most recent visit, one of the members of my party had an allergy that wasn't disclosed beforehand. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate, including the modification of dishes throughout the evening.

Do yourself a favor and go here. I’ve been to several michelin star Omakase and this is my favorite.

The highlight of the meal is the uni and toro hand roll - both are some of the highest quality you can find.

An immersive experience into a traditional-style omakase. I’ve tried other omakases before that do crazy things, but Hiroki focuses on the fish. The quality was obviously amazing, and the experience was unlike anything else. I did feel hurried at times, as you eat with everybody else on the bar, but make sure you take your time with each bite.

It was alright, the staff don't follow traditional etiquette (refilling my sake glass without asking, for example). The staff were stand-offish. I thought the interaction was supposed to be a part of the experience. The food by nature is very salty, but there was also some ingredients that were not fresh (not expired, but noticably not fresh which is disappointing at these prices.) Very costly for the experience. Just go to Morimoto instead.

I wish I can give more stars. Originally from Tokyo I eat edomae sushi almost 3 times a week. This is my fair opinion. Nice atmosphere inside. But I ordered a glass of Senju for $18. Server only gave me a half cup of 3oz. I thought this is some type of joke or mistake but he said no. It is super overpriced for sake. Then sushi, shari preparation is not good, temp was off, tightness is not there and almost no vinegar taste in shari. Fish quality is medium grade level except for Saba which was excellent. Overall I do not come back again because it is way overpriced especially Sake by glass, and mediocre preparation of shari,, and spirit of edomae sushi is lacking from the beginning to the end.

What an utter disappointment. As a Japanese food enthusiastic, I was actually looking forward to coming here. Sadly, this is a disgrace to traditional Japanese cuisine. Dish after dish, I was disappointed. By the end of the meal, I could barely fit the servings into my mouth. No, I wasn’t full, I just couldn’t bare it anymore…

Wow what an experience. Omakase on crack! In a good way. Paired with a sake tasting and they didn't pressure you to finish each round. After the meal I mentioned to my husband that it was very reminiscent of Morimoto, and he said the chef had ties! Gotta say I like this better! More intimate of a setting. Two thumbs (and a jellyfish) up!

Hiroki is expensive. Hiroki will fill your stomach with rice and fish. You might even feel nauseatingly full, as both my date and I did. I'll spare you the details. The amberjack nigiri and wagyu beef tongue were sensational. There were enough things to enjoy about the meal but I would never go back or enthusiastically recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Went to Hiroki for the first time and had an enjoyable meal. Great variety of fish that seemed to be of high quality. There was one course with red meat which was the wagyu beef. It was topped with truffles but they didn’t taste like anything which was strange. Uni was really good. Given the price tag and what we got it’s not at the top of my list for omakase experiences here in Philly but it was definitely enjoyable.

I wanted to love this experience sooo badly, but truthfully it’s over-rated and WAY over priced for what you get. Bear with me here, this review is long bc it was upsetting to spend this kind of money for our experience.
I expected a “high end dining experience”. We walked in and they were playing classic rock, it’s also way brighter than on the website pics. Ok, we’ll adjust. The sushi bar was obviously filled with the seating before, we were the next seating at the tables and then before we left the next seating came into the sushi bar again. So they move you through quickly. The food was just ok until we got to the sushi. The sushi was good, not $155 pp good, and slightly repetitive and in flavors, but good.
The biggest issue came bc I did the sake pairing. It was $65 of the tiniest pours, all inconsistent in size mind you, and then they forgot to give me one. Ok, no big deal, I brought it to their attention only to be met with a scathing “no we didn’t, do you need to see all the bottles?” I said no, but I counted (there are only six, so it’s not like it was hard for me to keep track). Then a few minutes later another waiter came over to loudly call me out, show me the written list of sake’s, and said “it’s impossible we missed it”and then told me to pick which one they missed from the list in Japanese. We’re talking about a 2 ounce pour of sake and they felt the need to humiliate me?! You’re spending a lot of money here and this is how you treat your diners? Not only was the place and food mediocre, the whole attitude exuded that you’re “the next seating” to diners about to spend a lot of their hard earned money, is ignorant and arrogant. Trust me, spend your $500 somewhere else.

Good, just not really worth the price to me. I love splurging in a pkace if its food is worth it but here, besides a few dishes, it was all okay

Great experience. Yes, it’s expensive, I would suggest you go here for a very special occasion. To put in perspective, I spent $560 dinner for two with alcohol. Obviously if you don’t get alcohol it will be much cheaper. In addition, I got Japanese sake sample and it was definitely worth it. The food was extremely delicious.

High quality Japanese food for serious foodies. Love this place. The fish is super tender and the chefs do a great job with perfect amount of rice and wasabi in each bite.
It is pricey so we only come here for special occasions. Note that there are 5 seatings (5 to 9:00 pm on the hour).

Zenshi (appetizer) was cute. I liked the candied beans the most. And the poached shooter egg.
Grilled Seasonal Fish With Seasonal Vegetable - the fish was quite salty. The veggies was a pickled leak(?) and a grilled shishito pepper which I really liked
Soy Koji Marinated Wagyu Beef - I liked this. And the sauce it came with.
SUSHI - favorite was the scallop and the handroll. Liked the temperature difference between the warm rice and cold fish. They were also not too heavy with the wasbi or sauce which is nice.
Tamago was a nice cakey texture and sweetness
Miso soup was SOOOOOOOOOO salty
Dessert - macha pudding and a macha Pokey stick
The atmosphere was a bit intimidating when we first walked in. Everyone seated, the chef facing us, but no one talking. Once the food started rolling, it felt more relaxed.
The staff was friendly and helpful describing each dish and recommending how to eat them.

A classic sushi restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The omakase dinner tasted great, and without ruining the surprise the hand roll at the end was special. Sake pairing was well suited and dessert was light and sweet.

The staff, environment, the saki and the food were fantastic! On the pricier side of most but definitely worth the experience

Excellent omakase experience! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone searching for a pleasant place to celebrate a special event.

Quite a disappointing experience. We had the NYE omakase and for the price point it was not worth it at all. Main culprit was the rice, it was quite plain for such a premium price. As for the selection of fish it, many bland tasting fish.

It's okay... But for the price Royal Sushi in PHL is so much better. The restaurant has a really cool vibe. But the sushi quality was underwhelming. The A5 beef was covered in some sort of mushroom goo... Don't kill the world best beef with a thick overwhelming sauce. Perhaps the highlight is the authentic Japanese toilet in the bathroom. Won't be back.

The food was good quality and we enjoyed the flavors of our meal. This review relates to experience only.
The gap in our experience was hospitality. We were given no time to savor what was in front of us and told that we needed to eat our sushi while the rice was "still warm". It was so rushed that my sister got sick halfway through the meal because she can't eat quickly.
I also shared this was a birthday celebration before arrival and...nothing? Obviously not expecting a spectacle at a restaurant of this caliber but there was no acknowledgement or little something special to warrant asking me if there was any special occasion when I made a reservation.
I feel your money is better spent elsewhere

I enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I never felt like I was rushed or felt like I was pushed to buy more expensive drinks. The food was excellent, but not filling. The course is basically a taste test of many different preparations. But I suppose that's fine dining for you. The fatty tuna was my favorite.
By the end of the service the total was over $600. I knew it was going to be expensive going in. I'm left wondering if it was worth the cost. I could easily get an excellent meal for half the cost and feel much more satisfied.
I think Hiroki does what it does well if you don't mind the bill. It was an experience to try once. My girlfriend and I agreed that we wouldn't go back. Although we enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the staff, it's just not worth the cost to us.
1 star off because I wouldn't go back to do it again.

I have been to many different real japanese omakase. I would rate this place 0 but i cant rate lower than 1. First of all i paid 550+ for 2 people with 1 order of sake taste.
Service and atmosphere was good but food...i really dont say this but its kinda trash. Only few kinds of sushi and bad appetizer (all appetizer in one wood box). If you ever ate real sushi you would feel the same. Imo i think this place should charge 45-60 at most. "Sushi - 3, appetizer - 2, Desert - 4"
NOT WORTH 550$$ oh also sushi chef was wearing watch🤮 how do other people rate this place 5 star... im really shocked... i really would recommand have real japan omakase

Dined her a few weeks ago with my wife and forgot to post until now. We enjoyed the omakase tasting. I also ordered the sake pairing which complimented each course. The staff was friendly. The fish was fresh and well prepared. The courses had more than just fish including wagyu and other Japanese delicacy.

Save your money. It’s wildly overpriced. It’ll be about $200 a person. The sushi quality is good but the selection of fish is not great! Overall not worth the price

Wonderful experience! I like the simple Japanese decor of this place. The sushi was excellent and so fresh… served as multiple courses so you learn what you’re eating and are aware of the experience. Great sake recs from my waiter… it’s a bit pricey but I suppose you’re paying for a unique experience and the quality of the sushi.

We came into the restaurant 10 minutes before our seating, and no one was in the foyer, and no sign offered instruction on if anyone would be returning to seat us. We went outside, waited five more minutes, and came back in. Again nothing. When we opened the door to the dining room, we were rushed by the manager and ushered back out. Felt awkward, and uninviting.
The staff knew very little about the ingredients. When asked about the marbling grade of the wagyu (which she pronounced wahgoo), I was told she didn't know, but she'd ask; but not before giving me a look which read as "why ask such a pretentious question" despite the meal costing $200 pp. The chef then told her that he also didn't know the BMS grade of their wagyu. The fact that a chef could possibly pay for such an expensive ingredient and not know the quality of said ingredient is egregious. At what price point are they buying this meat that they can be so flippant about its value? Are they overpaying and forcing that price onto customers?
Some of the food was outright flavorless. The caviar that adorned a perfectly poached egg and deep, sumptuous dashi had literally no flavor. Not some flavor, not little flavor... The caviar, another impossibly expensive ingredient was completely flavorless. Had it not been for the dashi below, I would have sworn that I had come down with Covid. (Even salmon roe from local sushi joints have flavor...)
The same goes for the black truffle that accompanied the improperly seared Wagyu. It had no scent, no feel of truffle, and tasted similar to a razor thin slice of a button mushroom purchased out of a supermarket. How they managed to coax the flavor from two of the most flavorful ingredients on the planet eludes me. But either they were old, they were bought from the Dollar General, or I've been duped.
We were lectured on how during traditional Japanese meals, you eat with your fingers. They gave us small wet cloths to wipe our fingers on in between courses. What they neglected to mention is that you're not supposed to touch the fish-- ever. The reason that sushi is eaten with your hands and sashimi is eaten with chopsticks is that you're not supposed to touch the fish, but it's acceptable to hold the pickled rice. Yet, they even tell you the wet cloth is to wash the oil and soy from your fingers. No. And herein lies the issue: The rice portion was so small, that the fish draped over on all four sides. Meaning I was just touching the fish, every time. When I asked for them to increase the portion size of the rice to better match the cut of the fish, and offset the amount of wasabi, I was outright told no.
They have no standard application of wasabi. On some pieces I was receiving two to three times the amount on a piece that my company was receiving during the same course. The opposite was also true on later courses. On one occasion, one of my party members removed over half of the wasabi from the sushi she was given and it was still far too much. The only thing consistent about the sushi courses was the inconsistency with which they were prepared. The knife cuts left not only the fish mismatched, but the ginger and cucumber pickles as well. The rice ranged from small portions, to awkwardly small.
The seating we purchased was from 6:30pm until 8:15. After the toro course-- which was close to last and the only piece of sushi I enjoyed enough to warrant the cost of the meal to that point-- I had asked for the kitchen to make another round. Every sushi Omakase I've ever been to, including Michelin star restaurants in Tokyo, offer repeats of anything on the menu. I was told that they couldn't accommodate the request, as the seating wouldn't have enough time. After dessert was over, we had 22 minutes left on our seating, and again I asked, since her timing was clearly ahead of schedule. I was denied. We were asked to make room for the next seating, so that they could clear down.
The staff was cold, the food was lifeless. This is sushi for people who don't know sushi. If that's you, get ready to break the bank, and enjoy.

Unfortunately a total disappointment. My partner and I came here for our anniversary. I do not recommend doing so for any romantic occasion for various reasons. The tables are seated extremely close together, so any private conversation can be heard to you left and right... the food was monotonous and underwhelming. It felt extremely rushed as well..there wasn't much ambiance which I consider part of what you're paying for with an expensive restaurant. I recommend going to NYC if you want to have an upscale omakase experience that warrants the high price.

Amazing. Brought my husband here for his birthday as he loves all things Japan. He said this was better than some of the omakase of Michelin star chefs we had in Japan, which I think says it all. Will definitely be returning. So happy to have a chef like this in Philly.

If this is your first and only Omakase experience you shouldn't be disappointed. But if I have to rate this $200+/person Omakase restaurant fairly based on what it presents. Hiroki should be a 2/5.
Omakase means you put trust in the chef. After today's experience, I'd safely say no I don't fully trust my chef tonight.
The good:
1. cozy atmosphere. Quiet. Great for a two-person date. However I felt there was nowhere to place my feet at the sushi bar. I'm 6 feet and my feet were just hanging in the air.
2. good service from waiter/waitress
3. With Mr. Hiroki being trained under Mr. Morimoto, I was afraid he would present things highly Americanized (and controversial like the one in downtown Philly). To my surprise he did successfully left his own personality and mark to his own menu. There are some bold creations but none is deviant. Some examples are the rice cracker in the roll, the wagyu sando, the use of conger eel.
Room for improvement:
1. no communication from the chef. He seemed very overwhelmed. No eye contact. No intro to fish. No greeting. No signs of hospitality. It solely destroyed the experience of Omakase - imo people came to sushi bar hoping they could know more about what they eat and feel good about the food, not to look at a cold face.
2. The flow could be better. I got seated at 7:10pm, spent first 40min on the appetizer, still hungry, getting bored, and staring at the quiet chef preparing the fish for the dining table behind me.
3. Anago was cooked for too long. The flesh fell apart.
4. The menu was too generic. The descriptions were often "Japanese Snapper/Urchin". OK? Are they from Hokkaido, or Tokyo Bay, or Okinawa? These would make big differences. What part was used? No information. Not to mention the description for Toro was simply "fatty tuna". Again lack of information.
5. Basically same seasoning for every single piece of Nigiri. There was no progression or connection between courses. It got boring later in the night.
6. A few details that made me uncomfortable:
a. chef patted his peer's back with bare hand and went back to making sushi with the same unwashed hand.
b. chef dropped a plate. He must be tired tonight.
c. chef made a nigiri, didn't like it, dissembled it and threw the rice back into the rice jar.
d. chef dropped a small piece of wasabi on the paper towel. PICKED IT UP AND USED IT ANYWAY. Hello?
With little competition from good Japanese restaurants in Philly. Hiroki has the potential. It can def be better.
As what it is for now, it is mediocre. If the owner's goal is to establish a profitable business, they made it. But this restaurant is a long shot from a fine dining Omakase.
The future doesn't look bright though. On their website they are hiring new sushi chefs with only 1 yr of experience.

Food and service was very good. The fish was very fresh and dishes unique. Fatty Tuna was outstanding. Price for meal was high as mentioned in some of the other comments, 20% gratuity is added at the end. Very good, but expensive. I think this experience will be a one and done from me.
My biggest complaint would be the spacing of the tables. You sit very close to your neighbor (even by pre-COVID standards), impossible to have a discrete or intimate conversation.

I did the sushi omakase and it was my first time. I did it with the sake pairing. It was amazing! Amazing service. The staff was very attentive to all of our needs. The quality was beyond amazing. We tried so many different fresh fish sashimi and it really widen my horizon on the possibilities of sushi. It's definitely not your average sushi you get at any restaurant. The other non sushi dishes were also delicious, it's hard to pick a favorite because literally everything was unique, with beautiful presentation, that wows your taste buds. We sat at the sushi bar so we could watch the chef in action which was really cool. We could talk to them and ask them about the techniques and ingredients. I would totally do it again!

They push their marked up water on you as if you’re not spending enough. The food was average at best. The chefs stare at you to hurry up with the sushi pieces and if you’re not eating fast enough someone comes and reminds to “eat while warm”. They add the tip on any party whether you liked the service or not and the kicker is after spending 800$ for party of 3, we were asked to leave because they needed the barstools. Will not go there again.

The funniest part about the experience was being offered only bottled waters (sparkling or still) at the beginning of the meal. But near the end, we were offered regular tap water and were assured they had a "top quality filtering system". Wish I was just offered that in the beginning so I didn't have to pay a 3-4x mark up on bottled water.
The other issue I faced was my guest had an egg allergy. After ensuring proper accommodations were made, I was surprised that they did not substitute the tamagoyaki with something else. So while everyone else was eating, she sat there with an empty plate watching every one else eat. Even Sakana Omakase ($108pp) and Jesse Ito Royal Izakaya ($130pp) offered substitutions.
For the good, I enjoyed the set boxes offered. The miso was very unique; a miso soup that I have never tasted before. Cooking our own wagyu was a very nice touch. The ambiance and the friendliness of the staff was great as well.

Hands down our favorite restaurant in Philly. Unbelievably high quality food, attention to detail, and ambience. The service is top notch with incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff (huge shout out to John who will ensure your experience is nothing short of perfection from the second you walk in the door to the moment you leave)! My husband and I have been here twice now and we foresee many more future visits. Cannot speak highly enough of this entire experience plus amazing staff. You’re missing out if you pass this place up no doubt!

Everything was incredible, and this was my wife's favorite meal (over Suraya, Zahav, and Vernick to name a few) I still think about the tilefish course two years later. Did the sake pairing.
Word of advice, don't get an old fashioned or boozy drink at Wm. Mulherin's before the sake pairing. You will be flying, and someone else is driving.

This restaurant is unbelievable. Every dish we were served was delicious and well presented. Genuinely the best sushi I've ever had. Also cannot say enough about the staff, they were knowledgeable, unbelievably helpful and answered all of my stupid questions. Cannot wait to go back

One of the greatest meals I've had in Philly, and ever. The private greenhouses were intimate, warm, and quiet. Worth every penny and then some. If you're on the fence, go here. Also, make sure you go to the bathroom. You'll see.

Hiroki gets one star for their ambience and they get the second for the customer service. When I made the reservation for their $145 per person prefixed dinner menu, I expected my wife and I to be wowed. To my surprise, it was nothing but a mediocre experience. We love sushi but all their sushi dishes were very fishy and lacked in taste. I highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. A $500 dinner for two should get you much more that what Hiroki has to offer.
Visited 4 years ago
I agree with the other reviews. Food was sub par and not worth the price. My review is solely based on the food and cost.
The customer service and ambiance was wonderful but it’s not worth $524.44. You’re better off going somewhere basic with better tasting food.
My personal opinion - I would rather chill elsewhere for my date night where a $35 at the most bottle doesn’t cost $110. Go at your own (wallet’s) risk.

This restaurant was sub par to say the least. I’ve never had a boring and dull omakase. The food was bland and flavorless and our bill was $460 for two people. Stay away and save your money. Not even worth 50$ per person. You may think I’m being too harsh but my husband and I have tried almost every omakase spot in philly and this was the least impressive by far.
Visited 4 years ago
Pretty good ambience and service. Probably one of the best if not the best omakase restaurants in Philly, but that’s not saying much since there aren’t that many good ones in Philly. The Akami, Otoro and Uni Gyu were great. Others were less memorable. The rice is a bit more salty and vinegary, which I prefer.
