At Bamboo Sushi, we make every decision with the highest regard for this world and the people in it. From transparency in how we source our food, to reducing our carbon footprint, to enriching the communities that we live in. The Portland born Japanese eatery goes beyond sushi, extending to shareable plates, rolls, nigiri and a delicious wagyu burger, with cocktails and sake to boot.
Love the food here. Excellent sushi. The tuna sashimi was outstanding. Felt rushed and server forgot my wine. With improved service this would easily be a 5 star restaurant in every catergory. I will be back because the sushi is so great that I can overlook service. I suggest ordering menu items separately when your ready for the next one. The kitchen is super fast. Thank you Bamboo! We will be back. π

Went here for my birthday. A lovely experience sitting at the sushi bar. Everyone was very kind and attentive. The food was amazing and very fresh. The atmosphere was laid back and calming. My only issue is the chairs at the bar are not very comfortable for bigger people, this is compounded by the lack of a place under the bar to rest your feet.

Bamboo Sushi is a nice spot for good sushi. The atmosphere is very intimate and semi-romantic. Our drinks for the night were the Bamboo Old Fashion and the Moonlight, both were quite tasty. Our miso salad was good. The sushi rolls we ordered were tasty as well (I don't remember which ones we ordered, but no complaints). We also ordered the brownie ice cream dessert which didn't disappoint.

I love that I don't have to worry about gluten here! The steelhead nigiri and the negihama roll are the best but I haven't had anything bad here yet. Get the fresh wasabi, it tastes completely different and adds a great floral depth to whatever you order!

This place has some seriously good sushi! Fish was fresh and buttery. Specialty sashimi and specialty rolls were flavorful and unique. We ordered the Kanpachi Aguachile, Garden of Eden, Full Circle, and Green Machine add crab. All were delicious but our favorites were the Full Circle and Green Machine. It's a little pricey at $18 a roll but totally worth it. I've paid similar or same prices at other nice sushi places and not walked out nearly as happy as I did this place. It was clean, nice aesthetics, great service. Nothing but good things to say! Thanks for a lovely dinner!

Everyone knows the food is ridiculously delicious here, I shan't bore you with what you already know. I've come to give the bartender his flowers. I think his name was Jared - long hair, great mustaches. He was passionate about making us delicious drinks, he even had time and energy to dream up some custom craft cocktails for us, narrating his process for us. I had maybe the most beautiful and tasty drink of my life off this man's WHIM!

I have eaten at the various Bamboo locations probably a total of about a dozen times. Service and wait time for food at this location is really bad. 3 of the food items we ordered tonight were not very good.
The chicken karaage was not crispy at all and was gooey and gummy, the green beans lacked flavor and needed salt (we didnβt finish them), and the sizzling hamachi (which we were told was medium rare but was fully well done and maybe even overcooked) was terrible.
We waited 15-20 minutes between each item from the sushi bar even though we ordered it all at once. We wanted to order more nigiri but there was no way we were going to attempt that with the wait times we experienced.
Water refills non existent. When we told our server (after they asked) that we didnβt like the hamachi sizzle she said βthatβs too badβ instead of offering to take it off. We had to flag down our server for everything we needed.
I really like the Full Circle roll and some of their sashimi and nigiri but much of the menu is a miss for me.
There are way better sushi experiences for the price in Portland. Head over to BlueFin

I had such a strange experience at Bamboo that made me feel like the staff wanted us to leave before we even sat down; from the moment I walked in the door to the moment I left, it was quite unpleasant. The food was impeccable, so I won't fault that at all. I had an 8.15 reservation, I was stuck waiting for a train to cross the tracks, so rang the restaurant to tell them I'd be there hopefully by 8.30 - we arrived at 8.31. When I walked in the host said "I was about to call you and get your order in, I wouldn't even care if you would have shown up at 9 pm then". I thought that was a weird comment - how would I have known what to order before I saw a menu? We were seated, and placed orders for a cocktail and a bottle of sake, as well as appetizers and shortly after our mains (the experience). Our food came promptly and was very tasty. Around 9.20 our server, Matt, came by to say it was last call on food and drinks - we didn't order anything further. However, from that moment on, the staff at the sushi bar were extremely loud, chatting and yelling to each other, very unattentive and unaware of us. It was like as soon as last orders were in, we didn't matter anymore. We were sat at a table directly by the sushi bar, about 5 feet away, so we could hardly hear our own conversation as they were speaking very loudly while they cleaned up - especially a blonde chef wearing a black cap with tigers on it. Our server didn't offer us a dessert menu when he said it was last call, so when we did actually finish our meal, we weren't able to get dessert - it would have been good if he would have told us dessert needed to be ordered then. I felt very rushed the whole time - if the restaurant really wants to close up so quickly and promptly at 9 pm, perhaps reservations should not be bookable online after 8 pm. I asked the host who previously made the strange comment to me for an extra glass for sake, and he kind of just plopped it down and didn't offer to pour it for me; usually when I order a bottle of something I would expect that it would be poured for me. We left the restaurant after we finished our food and took half the bottle of sake home, since I did not feel comfortable in the restaurant any longer. I felt like we were a nuisance for dining there - mind you there were still a couple other tables and the waitstaff certainly were not subtle about informing their colleagues about which tables were still dining. Considering we spent over $250 for 3 people to dine, I would expect a bit better class of service. Sadly, Bamboo isn't what I remembered it being and we won't be back again.

Walked to a 100% empty restaurant (Yes, 100%) and the waiter first question was; Do you have a reservation. The sushi is an overly overpriced improvised made up version of sushi. The appetizers are a serious shock in low quality. For such high price you'll have to do better and train your waiters to stop harassing customers. The same waiter asked us 6 times how we're doing in the span of 15 minutes every time he passed us by. That's on the verge of stalking.

This was a Friday night take out treat for my family. The flavors were very fresh, a light hand, but still very distinct. Really enjoyable sushi including the Hoki Poki Box and Friday The 13th. Also delighted with a couple non sushi items including the Garlic Fried Rice and Crispy Rice Smashed Avocado. Compostable take out containers a bonus.

We come to this Bamboo location for our anniversary each year and have had 2 experiences recently that were above and beyond. Our first was an anniversary dinner and we were served by Ethan who was AMAZING. It was clearly a busy day and they were short staffed so Ethan was taking almost half the tables, yet he remained calm, kind, and genuine. He recommended us to try the steal head nigiri and it instantly became our favorite dish to order. So much so that we came back mere weeks later and were taken care of by Ryan who was immediately a joy to interact with. He was welcoming, funny, and thoughtful. It was a beautiful dinner and we had a FANTASTIC time. Thank you to the team and a special thank you to Ryan and Ethan for making such lasting impression on one of our favorite restaurants!

I have now had two awful experiences here with to-go orders and will likely not return. Told at the quoted pickup time my order was waiting on one item, my food wasnβt ready for another 30 minutes as I stood and waited. The restaurant was not busy. The host ignored me and after asking for an update they told me they had no communication with the kitchen and didnβt even attempt to find out the cause of the delay. Eventually it became clear there was an issue and they sent someone looking. My crispy rice dish was completely soggy by the time I got my two-item order (since it had been ready for at least 30 minutes). Especially at this price point, what a disappointment.

This place is magnificent. The atmosphere is exactly what I look for in a place, but most almost importantly is the delicious sushi that they craft in the kitchen. The Unicorn role is truly a Unicorn, I've never found such an exquisite tasting role of sushi. I don't know what they do with that thing, but it's actually a flavorful experience I can only get from a fine dining restaurant. So many complexities that exist within that role. The green machine is another favorite. Whatever goes into making that sauce is just delicious!
Just as important is the service. Jared that works behind the bar has always been so incredible. He is a genuinely kind guy and cares about you as if you'r e one of his closest friends (and this is only my second time having him as a server at the bar in the past year!). I'm so glad he still works at bamboo sushi because I remembered his warm welcoming and service from the last time I was there.
The only thing that has kept me from coming here more often is the price of sushi, but I can say that the price is justified. I also think that they either dropped the prices since the last time I came there . . . Or I can now afford it, not sure!
I always talk VERY highly of Bamboo Sushi and it's my #1 recommendation for Sushi when people visit Portland and it's because of your trifecta of delicious food, incredible staff, and wonderful ambience.

Not only is this the best sushi in town, but when we had an issue with our order (due to no fault of Bamboo Sushi) Ryan was extremely kind and helpful, sending us new rolls to replace the ones that the DoorDasher ate from our box. Bamboo Sushi, you rule!

The food was very good, but the service was lacking. Our server forgot a variety of things-water didnβt get refilled, we had no utensils or soy sauce for awhile, and he forgot about one of our orders. He did end up taking $10 off our bill for the forgotten item, but we would have been much happier if the order hadnβt been forgotten in the first place. He also didnβt check on us very often, and spent about 15 minutes talking to someone at bar while we were trying to get his attention. Not a very satisfying experience. We usually go to the Bamboo in NW and have not had these issues.

Some years ago, we had a very memorable experience here when ordering a Chef's Choice sashimi and sushi platter. Fabulously presented with classy knife skills and the most excellent fish available that day. Tried to recreate that for my wife and daughter's shared birthday today.
Tempura and octopus small plates were excellent. But our Chef's Choice was not Chef's Choice. We were forced to order mostly foofy Fred Meyeresk sauced sushi that I have to assume was designed to hide low quality fish. Pretty disappointing considering were spent over $300 for dinner for four people. We won't be back. Very sad.

Regrettably, Bamboo Sushi has lost its edge. We have been going there for years and since Covid we have noticed portions are smaller and prices are higher. The Tuna Poke we had last night only had 5 pieces of fish and was mostly cucumber. The Rainbow Roll actually tasted fishy and was definitely not enjoyable. Very limited choices for Nigiri. Bambo use to be our favorite but last night left us with a taste of maybe not coming back again.

My dinner at Bamboo Sushi was absolutely one to remember, definitely the most authentic sushi experience Iβve had so far. I went with my brother, who pushed me to choose a few things outside of the typical rolls that Iβve had before. We ended up choosing a variety of Nigiri and Sashimi to curate our own Omakase experience.
Their Sashimi is prepared with YAKUMI; minimal and bright toppings to complement the flavor of each piece of fish. The fish itself was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the corresponding Yakumi enhanced the flavors and gave each fish a unique bit of texture. Each fish was brought as a small shared plate, and the entire dinner turned out to be such an experience.
I love Bambooβs attention to detail as well as their emphasis on sustainably caught fish. Their dedication to quality is apparent and appreciated.

We love Bamboo Sushi! I have celiac disease and it's one of the few mostly gluten-free places I'm comfortable eating. We do have some issues at most of the Bamboo Sushi locations with the vegetable tempura getting cooked long enough. Which happened to us again on this visit. The Beaverton location has been the only one that's been able to cook it completely through. There was a little bit of a service issue, we came during someone's 10-minute break and had to wait. It was odd. But it worked out. Sushi was delicious.

the sushi was the best we have had since Kauai, and we have been to Washington DC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and south Florida. Simply awesome fish. Wow, I was really impressed with the green machine and would 100% return to get that again. The other rolls werenβt that impressive, and definitely on the higher side price-wise. My server had an attitude and, as a fellow server, I was a bit taken back with this but I am assuming she was just having a bad dayβ¦. The restaurant itself is also very beautiful. Side note, I do NOT recommend the avocado roll β most expensive avocado roll Iβve come across, and also the smallest (photo doesnβt even do it justice how tiny it was). Itβs still a running joke with my friends and family to this day.

Had an awful experience here. We ordered online on a Tuesday, and we were told our takeout food would be ready at 7:10. We arrived at 7:15 and they acted like they had no idea why I was there looking for my food. They said they would check on it, and then continued to take in other guests. The entryway was incredibly crowded, there was nowhere to stand that isn't in another guest or a workers way. The music was so loud that I had to plug my ears. I am disabled and have sensory issues, so standing in one spot, surrounded by people and loud noise was a horrible experience. I continued to wait for 20 more minutes while the hosts sat more and more dine-in guests, completely avoiding eye contact with me. There was at least two other people waiting for to-go food that they completely ignored.
I also saw a reservation come in that they didn't have a table for, and the hostess asked a man sitting at a table to move somewhere else.
Finally there was no one at the hostess stand and I asked about the status of my food. They looked behind them and said "oh, this is it". I have no idea how long the bag had been sitting there, but it was definitely quite a while. possibly since I came in. I asked how long it had been there, and they said "I don't know". I politely told them that they should probably update the wait time for orders, because I waited 25 minutes for my food, there is nowhere to wait, and the environment is very loud and crowded to wait that long in. They just stared at me, didn't say anything, and didn't apologize.
I have worked hostessing jobs in busy restaurants, and I understand sometimes the kitchen gets backed up and that the host stand can get busy. I almost never write negative reviews. I would have been okay waiting for my food if there was anywhere to wait, or if I had received any type of apology for the experience or acknowledgement of my extraordinarily long wait time.
The food was fine when we finally got it, but wasn't even cold anymore- probably because of how long it sat behind the hostess stand. My partner also said it tasted like grocery store sushi. So not worth our 50$. We will not be back.

Stopped in at Bamboo Sushi yesterday with my partner. We really enjoyed our visit. I remember commenting that the rainbow roll and shrimp tempura roll both had a flavor clarity I havenβt found elsewhere in Portland yet, and the ingredients seemed very fresh.

Just left here for a late lunch and was excited to try this spot and try the crispy rice spicy tuna.
Will start with the Pros: good atmosphere and friendly bartender. Sat at the bar without waiting.
Con: the sushi rice was under seasoned and dry. The rolls were inconsistent and falling apart upon arriving to me. See image for half of my meal because it was unpleasant in flavor, texture and the fish seemed day old (defrosted).
Overall: if ya want a good vibe and music, and some cocktails this is your place. Underwhelming sushi basics, the kitchen was unable/unwilling to accommodate crispy rice spicy tuna due to allergy. Wonβt be back and would not recommend to foodies or sushi aficionados. Stop by if you want a cocktail or sake.

I've eaten sushi all over the country and this was the best I've had - bar none, on god, no cap, whatever the current vernacular. The sushi is based beyond belief. The owners truly understand the fish/flavor pairings like no other sushi establishment. The king salmon sashimi was mind-blowing as was just about everything we ordered. Matt was a terrific server and kept our glasses full and our wants at zero. Come, eat, and see that my words don't do Bamboo on 28th any real justice.

The quality and presentation of items at Bamboo Sushi are second to none in Portland. Being a 'newbie' in my recent sushi obsession I asked for a little help and got even less. The waiter had a good grasp on the cuisine but wasn't listening to me specifically, was rather distracted and I got a take out order of tiny proportion for plenty of money. I was prepared to pay appropriately, (I am not new to fine dining or quality seafood.) My comparison here is relevant and based on sushi establishments of equal quality in the area, and while I hope to return soon for the delicious fish I will be more discerning when getting recommendations!

Extremely unimpressed with sushi rolls. The sushi trains in town have very similar quality rolls for a lot less money. Was made to sit at a high top when there was several open tables. Seems like it wants to be fancy, but does not have the quality roll construction to support that.

I love sushi! Not only is it delicious, but in my mind itβs an artform. Bamboo Sushi delivers in such a unique way. I had almost everything on the menu and I donβt think thereβs a single thing I didnβt care for. In fact, each item I had brought a unique flavor that I either didnβt expect or I couldnβt get enough of.
I would highly recommend Bamboo Sushi. The waitstaff are FANTASTIC! They make wonderful recommendations and even brought out different items in an order that the flavors would accommodate each other. The only thing I wasnβt keen on is the small high top tables. There were three in my party , so there was very little space, but I will say that it worked out just fine.
If you get the opportunity to go, just go. You wonβt regret it.
I asked the waiter if the other locations have the same menu and he said they are so the same so the patrons can enjoy the same experience at any location..

We had reservations at 5:30 and when we arrived our table was prepped and ready to go. Our waiter was extremely helpful, and had excellent advice about Sake choices as well as vegan options for a few of our party.
He also informed us about a holiday special they were running on Gift Cards. Spend $100 on a gift card and get a $20 credit for yourself. As there were 8 of us, our bill was understandably high, and we made use of the gift card deal!
We've been in before and had delicious food, but we were there for 2 hours and had a lovely, unhurried birthday experience. Absolutely would recommend!
I'd come out more often, but unfortunately we live way out in Hillsboro, so special occasions only for now!

Sushi was high priced and small proportions. . Great flavors! Not your everyday Sushi place. Good to try for a change.

Food is great but the staff were transparently overworked as the manager informed the entire sushi chef staff they were planning to book more reservations over the normal limit. Definitely a stress inducing sushi bar.

Be sure to make a reservation. It's a nice vibe. Sushi was good. The scallop sashimi was great, they served it with lime wedges. We got the big island roll that had jalapeno with just a gentle kick to it. Service was attentive. Drinks were not bad. It's a nice place but the prices spendy. Will think of this place for special occasions

Brutal opinion from a Sushi Lover: you will need a second stomach and a really good income to be able to afore ALL the sushi you would want to eat from this place!
The taste of the food are far form good, they are UNBELIEVABLE!
The attention given by the staff is superior and really welcomeing.
The place is so well design for the eco-friendly style they hold that you will be amazed form the first second!.
Just be aware they are a "Cash free" restorarant!!! And a dinne for two, being 2 entries and 3 roles can go up to a $160 USD. (It worths enemy cent)

Tried the chili chicken and the crispy rice. Both amazing. Staff so accomodating to allergies.

Consistently amazing. The green machine is an absolute must. The avocado is seasoned so nicely on the crispy avocado rice. Definitely recommend the chili garlic chicken... juicy fire grilled chicken breast topped with chilies, and peanuts serves with charred green beans.. chef's kiss

Door and wait staff were super nice and conversational, food was excellent and a good selection of sake. You wonβt be disappointed if your looking for proper Japanese cuisine! I recommend the baked maitake and an assorted nigiri & sashimi plate. Thereβs burgers and steak if youβre still unsure wether or not to jump out of America.

Pick up order. Didnβt give silverware or soy sauce. Had to eat with my dirty little fingies. Also everything tastes like bologna.

Excellent service, delicious options, and casually upscale ambience- I'd ordered delivery before and been very happy, but the dining experience was wonderful! Highly recommend, and it topped a wonderful birthday!

Beware when you order from this place because theyβll string you along telling you it will only be ten minutes over and over again. By the time you finally get your order youβve already been there a half hour, and thatβs when youβve sent in your order online. This has happened to me numerous times. If you ask me itβs rude.

food was good, service was a little slow for how pricey the place is, but they were busy so it was understandable!

The whole experience was a nice one. We chose to eat at a table on the sidewalk and really enjoyed it. The food was good the staff was better, very attentive and helpful. It is not my favorite spot for sushi in the Portland area.

Oh my god this place is overrated. If youβre non Asian youβll probably love it, if youβre Asian and know whatβs up then youβll probably be bitter that you spent money here. We ordered take out at 9 PM and had to wait an hour (busy Saturday night). Our food was lukewarm upon picking it up. They said they would call us if it was done sooner, and clearly, they did not. The food portions were awfully tiny. Like what is this? Fine dining? The taste was what Iβd expect for *maybe* half the price.

Everything we had was excellent but the tuna poke was over the top good. The Chef is reviewing every dish that goes out to ensure consistency, so cool to watch.

If you live in Portland ,you already know Bamboo is pretty popular and even though in my humble opinion there are a few other places that do Sushi better than them , they still would be in my top 5 for the ambience ,good service and of course Sushi . I had not been to this location before as there are two other locations that are much closer to where we live but we decided to give them a try . I would say this is a nicer spot than the other two but that's just my personal opinion . The service was pretty good from the start and our food arrived quickly . we went with the tried and tested and ordered items we knew they do well . The cocktails were a pleasant surprise as they turned out really good too . Overall , a good spot for a nice dinner .

Bamboo Sushi's food matches the menu in quality. Fresh and diverse. Outside or inside dining. Yum. My friend who doesn't like sushi had plenty of choices, and I, a sushi lover, did too.

If you like bougie sushi like I like bougie sushi, Bamboo Sushi is the spot. All their items are so fresh and full of flavor. They strike the right balance of unique ingredients that pair well together in interesting and surprising combinations without getting weird. They're inventive and fun but still classic enough for traditionalists who might not want to venture too far outside the box. I especially loved their Spicy Salmon Crispy Rice and the Garden of Eden Roll. I highly recommend this place for a date night, night out with the bestie, or taking someone who's visiting Portland as a best-of place to eat.

My first time visit and will definitely be returning. My wife and I ordered a couple appetizers and two different rolls. Everything was well portioned and delicious! The service was great with attention and recommendations.

Amazing food, enjoy the atmosphere but it shouldn't cost more than $100 per person to be full. 5 star for food, 3 star for cost.

I hadn't been to Bamboo for a few years, and it used to be one of the best in PDX. Not anymore. Got takeout last night, on a Friday. The place was packed. But the quality of the fish was really disappointing. Salmon, tuna and yellowtail all lacked firmness and weren't the freshest. Not smelly or bad, but not what I expected from Bamboo. The shrimp tempura and crab roll was really "meh". No wasabi or soy sauce was included with the order, the first time I've ever encountered that at a sushi restaurant. Some wasabi would've helped the mediocre taste. Portland has a lot more good sushi than it did a few years ago, but Bamboo has fallen behind.

Both very good and we were stuffed after! Drinks are also delicious tried the Day Tripper, Sun Kiss, and MoMo. MoMo was very nice!
