We had a party of 8 and I made “priority seating” reservations. The wait was almost 2 hours! The hostess Haile was so positive and understanding that we waited. The food and service- our server was Shannon was excellent. We had a fantastic night but if it wasn’t for Haile’s sweet demeanor we would have left. So happy we stayed and we will be returning. It was the best Hibachi in Stark and Summit County

A disgrace. Nothing about this restaurant is Japanese. Starting with our party of 8 not getting seated until one hour after our so-called reservation time.
No free drinks or any consideration was offered for that, but we sure were offered to go and spend more money at the bar while we waited. Nice. Then to the bar. Two types of sake and the abominable "jelly sake shots" were on offer, is this a frat house or nice Japanese restaurant? Sake served in shot glasses instead of sake cups. Another nice touch. Then the food. Since when is Japanese food a huge mountain of overcooked fried rice and burned onions???? We got the filet mignon and lobster and watched as the cook overcooked it all right in front of us despite asking for rare. We also got sushi and it was a awful. Unevenly cut fish, some appeared to just be torn pieces, the rice was just mushed into some kind of random shapes. Oh, and one of the doors on a bathroom stall was broken and could not be closed. The worst Japanese food experience I've ever had, the pre-made sushi you can buy at the grocery store is better. Overall, my opinion is that this restaurant is that it is a disgrace, especially for those prices.

This was the first time I have eaten at this establishment since they moved locations. The food was delicious and the price point was affordable. The staff were amazing! Very interactive with all of our guests, both adults and children! Our chef cooked everything perfectly! The manager Lindsey, did a wonderful job with her staff making our meal a positive one to remember. Looking forward to going back again soon!

Walked in at 8pm asked how long was the wait, was ignored and asked for our name. Waited an hour to be sat. The other family sat with us had a reservation at 8pm and wasn’t sat in till 9pm with us! They put the wrong sushi on the plates and gave them to the wrong people.. they didn’t realize till they started eating ours.. the rice was BURNT, so bad they offered to make everyone fresh rice because many of us agreed it tasted awful. Our service only refilled our glasses once at the very end before leaving after they been empty almost the whole time! Was some of the worst food I’ve ever had! Was there over 2 and an half hours… and now everyone in my group complained about having a belly ache sense leaving! So unless you want to wait a long time for crappy food and walk out with possible food poisoning I’d stay away from this place!

We scheduled a reservation a month in advance for 7:00 PM, expecting a smooth and enjoyable evening, especially as this was a birthday celebration. We arrived early at 6:35 to check in and inform the front desk that one person would not be attending. By 7:04, our entire party was present and ready. Despite this, we weren’t seated until 7:45—an unacceptable delay for a reservation made so far in advance.

We appreciated the offer of compensation, such as free entrées, but it didn’t make up for the fact that by 8:45, we still hadn’t been served. Ultimately, we had to leave, with the celebration completely derailed. If it weren’t for the efforts of the manager and our server—both of whom were kind, understanding, and proactive—we would have walked out much earlier. Their gestures, including $200 in complimentary gift cards, were appreciated, but it doesn’t erase the frustration of the evening.

This was supposed to be a special night, and it was ruined. Overbooking and poor management of reservations are unacceptable, especially when customers plan so far ahead. Please don’t make promises you can’t keep—your reputation depends on it.

We have been to this place quite a few times… And today was by far The worst service we ever had. We were a party of nine. We got there at six and we didn’t get seated until a little after eight. Then our chef totally focused on a lady on one corner & didn’t interact with any of us. Did none of the shrimp throwing, none of the entertaining at all. Overcooked a couple of the fillets. Then the ribeye I got, and two of the fillets that the other members of our group got, were horrible cuts of meat, so much fat on them. It was terrible. Then the chef got a terrible attitude with one of our group members and just made the experience Absolutely terrible. Got there at six and didn’t leave till 10! Worst experience ever had there.

Positives about our experience: the waitress and grill chef were very nice and attentive. It ends there. we arrived at 5 pm with only one other couple waiting to be seated. they were there for anniversary and we were there for birthdays. As soon as I walked into the restaurant I am hit very hard with rotten bathroom smell - it was so bad, like an outhouse smell. It was so intense. the kid at the check in desk did not engage with any of us and there was no point in making a comment to him (can't believe none of the employees did not notice how rank the bathrooms smelled) - where was the manager? . walking back to our table the floor felt sticky, like when you mop a floor with old dirty water. I wish I could have turned around and went somewhere else but it was not possible The food tasted okay. I am going to contact manager about the situation (if they take my call).

Horrible experience. We attempted to make reservations and call ahead of time for a large group. They don’t take reservations. When we called, no answer. We got in line 20 minutes before they opened and were 3rd in line. We were told that it would be an hour and a half wait. Because other people had called and been given priority seating. Though they didn’t extend that option to our group. 100% do NOT recommend. Will not give them any business. If you can’t treat a group of special needs kids decently I want nothing to do with them hat establishment. I hope other people think twice before going to that restaurant.

Where to start. One. The guy making the sushi, had long hair and facial hair. He was NOT wearing any kind of hair net. Two. The plates were covered in a greasy film. Got an app of gyoza, the sauce was not what was expected, it was sour. The soup was good but why was there the hard lo mein noodles in it? The salad was super bitter It took forever to get silverware. And the time it took to get a chef out was insane. We were sat at 8. Had to wait to make sure no one else was arriving… it was after 9 by the time the chef came out. If I wanted to wait that damn long, I would stayed home to cook. And honestly. The food was subpar.

Terrible experience. First we got there and sat at the bar because we wanted to watch the baseball game. The bartender told us if we wanted actual food (not just sushi) that we’d have to be sat at a table. We asked if we could just do our dinner as takeout and she said that was not an option either, so we decided to move to an actual table where we could no longer see the tv. We put the game on our phone and sat it between us and the couple we got seated next to at the hibachi table because they wanted to watch the game as well. We got seated at and finally got the sushi we had ordered at 9:10. At 9:50 (40 min after our appetizer) the cook comes out to start prepping out, why it took 40 minutes between appetizers to meal is beyond me since they weren’t busy. As soon as the cook began to light the grill he realized the hood was dirty and went to grab someone to clean it off (this is supposed to be done before or after the shift, not while people are at the dinner table). GIANT clumps of gunk started falling out everywhere dropping on the grill and area we’re about to eat in, it was so nasty the lady next to me started making loud gagging noises. One of the hood panels then slipped out of the kid cleaning its hand, launched backwards right where I was sitting and knocked two full glasses of water all over me and our phones that were sitting on the table for the game. (My phone has water damage now due to it already having a crack). Couple inches higher and it would have hit me in the face. Not one employee began to apologize, ask if I was okay, or ask if they could get me a towel. They all just sat there looking at it and one went to get a mop. There was like 5-6 employees that came over and not ONE asked if they could help me. So we left at 10 with hungry stomachs just in time for all other restaurants to be closed. I’ve worked in restaurants for 8+ years, I’ve also worked in a hibachi sushi place. Accidents happen and people make mistakes, but this was just so ridiculous. I have never written a review before let alone a bad one, but hibachi Japan is dirty and their staff doesn’t care for the satisfaction of their customers, forget about safety.

Had call ahead seating for 5:00. Was told the max I would have to wait was 10-20 min. Got there a few minutes early, checked in and they said it would be a few minutes. 50 minutes later they said it would be another 20 min. We were the last ones in the waiting area although I was told with call ahead we would be the next table seated. If the call ahead doesn’t mean anything just tell the truth. Won’t be going back.

This was our last visit to Hibachi Japan.
First, we had preferred seating for 6:30. We were finally seated just after 7:30. The server was very nice and did an excellent job considering the volume of people. We were told there are only 4 chefs. One would visit as soon as he could. The chef cooked everyone's meal, except mine. After he served the rest of the table, my husband asked, "Where's her filet?". Chef laughed and had the kitchen bring out another. 3.5 hours after arriving, we were beyond ready to leave. As we skated to the exit on the greasy floor, our party of 4 talked about the experience and decided it was one we did not want to experience again. There are many other restaurants at similar price points with better food and atmosphere.

Watch out, they overbook reservations and you may be waiting an hour or more to get in past your reservation. That's what happened to my family and I at least.

My father then proceeded to check their list of names when we weren't called for an hour, and the names above ours AND below ours were scribbled out. Meaning they skipped our family. Wonderful service if you are mistaking "wonderful" for "terrible".

It used to be Hibachi Japan vs. Shogun (on Arlington Rd.), and now Shogun is clearly the winner. Better service, more sushi options, offers lo mein noodles to replace rice if asked, and it's cheaper. The only thing Hibachi Japan has going for it is the dark atmosphere, which is not worth the hassle of this place. We will not be returning for quote some time.

So very disappointing. From a dirty entryway to an overflowing toilet, having to walk & track sewage water throughout to everyone at our table getting their orders wrong to waiting over half an hour for our checks to be taken up for payment & never receiving the end dessert.

We came here to celebrate a birthday last night, it was 93° outside and at least 85° in the restaurant. We were sat in a back corner with zero air flows and next to the hot grill just made it even worse. The food was good, but the overall restaurant seemed greasy and unkept. There was no music on, water all over the floor, and it was super hot. Hoping it was just a one-off and their AC was broken or something, but they should’ve had fans at least if it was. We felt really gross when we left.

3 fruit flies in my drink. I had to leave a review just to say that I ordered an alcoholic drink with fruit (7 samurai’s) and when it arrived there was a fruit fly on the orange, a fruit fly on the cherry, and a fruit fly in the drink. 3 total. So although I really love this place and have been multiple times that really really creeped me out. Our waitress was amazing too, but maybe don’t order drinks with fruit they clearly have a fruit fly problem right now 😭

An expensive night out for dinner.. the venue is nice, we did not feel rushed, the service was good, but the chicken was dry, and the rice was cold. I know, ho can it be cold when they cook in front of you?? Well, when the chef does the rice and veggies first, plates them up, then begins the meats ( chicken, shrimp, and steak), I think you see where this is going. It seems 12 dinners is too much to cook on that size flattop. Most other hibachi places are 8 per chef, but this puts more people thru the door and more revenue.

It was honestly a little sad for trying to celebrate a birthday there, and one of the people part of the group sharing our space got triple the amount of rice everyone else did to the point that we felt we got far less than normal. Birthday dessert was a sad little frozen cupcake, but the food tasted good! We've celebrated there before, and it was definitely better last time, but our chef this time barely spoke to us! It definitely makes me reconsider returning for future birthdays.

My daughter's birthday celebration here was a blast! The chef put on an amazing show with fire and tricks, keeping everyone entertained. The food was delicious, and my children loved watching their meals cooked right in front of them. It was the perfect combination of fun and delicious! Highly recommend!

Spent $400 for lackluster food, a subpar chef, and over worked server. We still have fun. Place is nice... however, I was charged a 2.9% admin fee. This fee is not a gratuity. I eat out 4 days a week at a different place in NE Ohio and I have never been charged an 'admin fee'.

And going IN is miserable. they stuff you at an overcrowded table with people you don’t know , and you overpay for a drunk chef to throw shrimp at your face . The price has gone up from 18 a plate to almost 30 in the past like …6? Years ?? You order to go and they DONT reduce the price but they won’t give you the tea or the sherbet and the side sauces ? So I did an reservation for 7 pm on Sat, March 23. My party was 19 + 2 toddlers (21)! We all were there at 645pm. The staff kept saying our table was being busted and was not. We waited standing up for over an hour. We got seated at 7:52pm. Crazy right.... The issue I feel was the staff was taking there time in the private area we were getting. I don't know if busting a room should take 30 minutes, but they definitely were going in slow motion. I just don't get why RSVP if we were treated as a WALK IN group. The BEST part was the chef, he was amazing!! The waitress, Emma, was great! The drunk amazing...I needed after all the stress of waiting. The food amazing. Time management needs worked on or a new, faster cleaning staff. I would not recommend a big party going there. The two and four parties were going in fast before us.

It was nice because when we got seated, we were in the other room by the kitchen, and we had it to ourselves. The food was great, and chefs did great as well. I dined with family here on March 16, 2024 and there was a young lady at the desk checking in and guest and periodically servicing people. Today, she had on a very SHORT skirt. When she leaned over the grill to serve guest, you can see her underwear. This is very inappropriate. She didn’t even have to lean over the grill that far to have her underwear seen. Please have your servers/employees wear appropriate attire at work. I will also contact the restaurant about this also, this is my second time dining here where her attire was inappropriate

Writing this on the toilet. Asked for medium rare stake not still mooing. I’ve never shat this violently. I’m not joking. The server was great the cook was funny and welcoming it was an ok experience over all but at what cost. My bowels will never forgive me. I may never be back. Men’s bathroom has 1 functional lock, the sinks are about 2 inches from the faucet. If they change the bathrooms I’ll be returning. Until then, farewell hibachi Japan. Thank you for the good 10+ years but it has just gone downhill in MY OPINION. Used to celebrate all my teenage birthdays here with my dad and family when they were still together and happy. Now their marriage is in shambles(divorced i come to hibachi to remind me of happier times) but somehow still doing better than my bowels.

Absolutely silly walked in at 4:10 and waited over an hour to be seated. However there were multiple empty tables not being used. Normally it’s jammed pack and we don’t have to wait this long just to be seated. Then once seated was told out of stock on multiple drinks, appetizers and other items. It seems completely unprepared and not ready for service. Probably last time we try to dine here. Place has completely gone down hill.

A friend of mine had a birthday here, and the tables sat all 13 of us comfortably. The wait to get seated was quite long, probably 20 to 30 minutes after our party was assembled, even though we had a reservation. This was on a weekday night, so plenty of tables were available. Once we were seated, our server, Emma was spectacular - very organized, and explained to us what the process was so that we could keep things flowing smoothly. She also asked about food allergies and was able to make sure everyone was accommodated, even though there is a single Grill, where all the food is prepared. When the chef came out, he was also a wonderful, and obviously very experienced. I wish I had gotten his name so I could give him the credit he deserves. The entertainment value was quite high, and I’m pretty sure it was the best that I have ever seen - He was very coordinated, and his jokes were funny. He was able to keep all the food separate to accommodate the food allergies. The whole dinner, including the waiting was just under three hours. As far as the people we interacted with this is restaurant is definitely worthy of five stars. The food itself was also top notch. I had salmon, and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The reason I chose 4 stars instead of five was because of the delays. I will definitely eat here again.

Everything seemed dirty, floor was sticky, all the glass and front doors looked like noone had cleaned it in days. I went to use the restroom while we waited to get seated, that also was disappointingly dirty. Based on the lack of cleanliness in the front, I had a terrible feeling about the actual kitchen and dining room. Because of the nature of the place, there tends to be a sheen of oil on everything. The floor was slippery, oily. The table where eat. It might be a good idea to look at your cleaning products and make sure they can de-grease and actually clean.

for starters the food was not good. fried rice didn’t even have egg. they didn’t serve noodles at all. my boyfriends steak wasn’t cooked properly. the vegetables were still hard. then the chef didn’t do any of the fun tricks. he also did everything out of order. the one trick he did do was throw shrimp in our mouths but he did it after everyone was eating all of their food for 5 minutes. the waitress was okay just annoying. honestly just disappointing and won’t go back again.

Update 12-23: almost every criticism i had in my previous review was corrected on our recent visit. The new location still lacks atmosphere, but the food was better prepared.
Original review:
Fun, typical Japanese steakhouse experience. We have been customers for over 30 years (Since they were in the Cuyahoga Valley). It hasn't changed too much in that time, other than location.
The new location is densely packed in, and there is less privacy. The smoke was also out of control, presumably due to how many grill tables are in one room.
Our particular chef wasn't as much of a showman, but was one of the better cooks we've had there lately, maybe ever. We were a subdued group anyway, so maybe he could sense that. I'll take good food over flying shrimp and corny jokes anyway.
The only negatives were dirty plates, and lukewarm soup and tea. For the money, that shouldn't be happening.
If you haven't been, it's a fun experience and the food is pretty good. Be prepared to drink a gallon of water later, as it is loaded with salt.

The lack of atmosphere was hard to get past. No background music playing made it feel uncomfortable to sit at a table. Having kids make sushi is the worst idea. Walked by and saw one of them sitting on the floor chewing on his finger nail. Bathrooms are filthy and you can see they don't do any cleaning around the tables. Went to the bar to get a drink and saw gnats flying around. The Hibachi was the lowest quality I've ever witnessed and I wouldn't call that fried rice by any standard. Don't go here!

The food was great! I ordered the hibachi ribeye (medium rare to medium) and chicken combo and the steak was delicious! The chicken was also very good as well, but the steak was my favorite. I also ordered a specialty beverage, I think it was the sunrise one (it was green and had sherbet in it) and it was also delicious and refreshing! The pineapple sherbet at the end was a great touch and from beginning to end the food did not disappoint. I would definitely go back and bring friends!

Service was great. But didn't get any refills of my tea. Table side cook asked if I ate eggs (I'm a vegetarian) I said yes, but he never added them to our fried rice. Tofu was undercooked and entire dish was under seasoned. There are better Hibachi restaurants out there.
We had a larger group, so expected the automatic tip; however, did not expect 20%.

We ordered appetizers and had to use the dinner plates to eat them. We asked for clean plates for the main entrees and clean forks and were told only allowed 1 of each per person. We also ordered additional drinks and had to use the same straws from the previous drinks. This is a concern if they are cutting corners in these areas . My family has been coming here for 10+ years (even when it was in the other location in the Falls) and we have always had an enjoyable experience. We usually come to the restuarant once or twice a year, to celebrate birthdays. We had not been since last fall, and after yesterday's experience I don't think we will return. First, they were out of all Japanese beers. Kind of strange, but ok. Once seated and we started ordering sushi, we found out they were also out of all spicy sauce (so no spicy tuna or other spicy sushi combos) and they were also out of soy sauce! What kind of hibachi restaurant is out of soy sauce??? After we inquired further, they ended up having gluten free soy sauce, which had a nice taste to it but still....out of soy sauce??? The portion sizes have shrunk dramatically since our last visit. The service was ok---our server was friendly but consistently forgot to bring things we asked for. The service was extremely slow----we arrived at 6:30 p.m. and waited about 40 minutes for a table. This is typical, so not a big deal. Once seated, service was incredibly slow. Sushi was not brought out all together, and was brought out after soup and salads had been brought out. The gentleman making the sushi had long-ish shaggy hair that was not pulled back or put in a hairnet or hat---the sushi counter was visible from our table. He kept flipping his hair all around, which was gross. He was also not waering gloves and I periodically observed him eating while he was making sushi. Yuck. When walking out, I observed a server vaping on the dining floor---she quickly stopped when she saw that I noticed her. Honestly, I did not care as the restaurant was closed at that point, but clearly she knew she was not supposed to be doing it by the way she put her vape behind her back and smiled sheepishly at us. The bathrooms were in disrepair and gross---the soap dispenser was missing from the wall, but the tape (?) to hold it up was still there. The sinks were sdirty and rusty, there was no toilet paper in the stall I was in, and the floor was dirty. They have small lights in the floor and one was coming up out of the floor and was broken. With the lack of available product, the disrepair of the bathrooms, and the overall lack of cleanliness, I wonder if they are going out of business. A shame, as they were always good in the past, but yesgterday's experience wil be our last.
