This sophisticated restaurant serves elevated Asian fusion including a sushi menu.
I would recommend this restaurant for dinner, including to celebrate a special occasion.
We had a great experience here. Joel was an excellent server - very friendly and attentive. All the dishes came out quickly and were delicious. The Brussels sprouts were the star of the meal.
We also weren’t expecting dinner and a show. We were sat at a table close to the kitchen, which is open and visible to the dining room. One of the chefs was doing his best Gordon Ramsey, swearing at (or at least in the faces of) the staff and being aggressive behind the line. We absolutely heard a plate crash in the kitchen after someone realized they had a dish they couldn’t serve for whatever reason. It was striking at first, but we got used to it as we drank throughout our meal.
In all seriousness, that chef was pretty rude to the staff, and it was uncomfortable to watch. Otherwise, the service from Joel and the other staff who stopped by our table was great.
Overall, despite the unexpected kitchen show, I would go back and would recommend this restaurant.

Great sushi. They do offer other food options but the sushi is where it's at. We ate outside and was nice. The atmosphere was very elegant as that's what some old lady called it. Come on Monday they do a sushi Monday deal that is awesome! We did spend a pretty penny here. A great lunch or dinner date option for your significant other. Only street parking available from what I've seen. Can be rough finding parking during the weekends. Bathrooms are very clean btw. Good job Parallax

A Tremont staple. Amazing sushi, fantastic sake. All of the food is top notch. They made some changes to half price sushi Mondays. I was a fan since it keeps the kitchen caught up and you get your food I'm 7 minutes instead of 90. You have to order hot food from the kitchen and an app to qualify for half price sushi which also does not include speciality roles. I think this was great because I got to try things I probably wouldn't have. Like the brisket udon. Which was fantastical!

As native Clevelanders, we are sad to admit that this was our first time going to Parallax - but now we will add this to our regular list. The food was spectacular and top notch. Love the relaxed and chic vibe. Service was great too. Lots of options on the menu, next time we will definitely try the sushi.

No complaints with the service but food is a terrible disappointment, quite overhyped & pretentious. They aspire to be fancy but the food is nowhere there & fails to capture the essence of delicate balance in French & Japanese cooking/influence. I say this as a person having experience with a hell lot of affordable as well as expensive high-end restaurants with amazing food in Cleveland & elsewhere. Not sure what the reviews are raving about. Had yellow tail & scallion hand roll, green dragon sushi roll, edamame, beef potstickers, sashimi salad, iceberg wedge salad, & sake. The yellow tail hand roll was simply wrapped into a cone/burrito with thick fish slices with no flavor at all. The green dragon sushi was good but way too huge, not bit sized (can barely even pick it up with chopsticks), thick rice layer & drenched in sauces - not typical of authentic sushi. Sashimi salad had huge thick slices of raw fish, some of which we had to cut ourselves bc we couldn't consume it & feared having that much quantity of raw fish (gave me a stomach ache next day). The edamame was drenched in a soup of butter. The iceberg wedge salad had massive chunks of lettuce & tomato that we had to chop & it was drenched in dressing along with thick slices of soft bacon (not crispy). The beef potstickers were really good & loved the sake. The staff was extremely warm & welcoming. But, the food needs a hell lot of improvement. Can excuse a few exceptions but issues with almost every dish is a big red flag to me. Even the complementary bread was served cold & tasted weird & it wasn't even sourdough or ciabatta or baguette, just some almost stale tasting bread. You can find much better quality of the same dishes elsewhere. Really appreciate the wine director helping us with our sake selection though & constantly being asked if we liked the food by the staff.

ZACK BRUELL’s Franco-Asian style restaurant, Parallax is among the best restaurants I have ever been to.
Bruell is a chef with 40 years of experience and most recently was nominated for a James Beard Award for the Great Lakes Area.
We decided to go down for the football-sized serving of Onion Rings and build our meal outward from there.
The rings are a little spicy and very thin and crunchy. They are my favorite holdover from Zach’s tenure at Ken Stewart’s in Akron, Ohio.
On the menu they are listed simply as Spicy Onion Rings ( see the two photos )
I also tried the special soup
Soup Du Jou - Tom Kha - Thai Chicken Coconut Soup with chantrel mushrooms
This is was subtle soup with a chicken, coconut milk and lime base. Good but different from the Tom Kha I am accustomed to. My wife loved the mushrooms.
Grilled Hanger Steak with Loaded Mashed Potatoes / white cheddar, bacon, scallions
and a sweet & sour portabella, roasted tomato, beurre blanc.
This steak was so tender and seasoned so well that we didn’t need the sauce but appreciated the complexity of it paired with the meat. My wife substituted the loaded mashed potatoes in lieu of the Herb potatoes. The Mashed potatoes soaked up the sauce perfectly.
My wife had the 75 Pear Martini. No complaints!!
In the past we have had sushi and Bouillabaisse. No desert .
This restaurant has the best service and wait staff I have ever encountered. We had a treat as Zach was expediting while we were there and the server suggested I stop and say hi. Zach was gracious and we shared stories from his time in Akron Ohio and the amazing onion rings. When I returned to the table, my napkin was refolded and my area policed. Great attention to detail.
Run don’t walk here.

I am impressed by Cleveland's restaurant scene, and Parallax is one of those gems. Super friendly staff, very professional and attentive but laid back (a compliment). They know the menu and are willing to make suggestions and tell you their favorites. I had the Peking chicken over Japanese pancakes, which is a creation unique to this restaurant, upon the suggestion of our server, and I have to say it did not disappoint. I was blown away by perfectly cooked shredded chicken over delicious vegetable pancakes created in-house. Words cannot make it justice so I'm going to leave it at that. We got tempura green beans as a side for the table, with and without wasabe allioli (they come with the sauce, but we asked for some without). The green beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned, so much so that I think I like them better without additional sauces. L
For dessert my wife had raspberry sorbet, and our friend and I ordered carrot cake with cream cheese ice cream, that was so good that we ordered two pieces because we refused to share.
The only blemish on an otherwise fantastic experience were the horrible horrible chopsticks. Every dish is beautifully presented, and comes with a pair of chopsticks, which would be great, except that they use the cheap, balsa wood kind with splinters and weird texture. We talked to our server about the chopsticks and she agreed, the staff hates the chopsticks too because they're hard to break apart, and they agree they cheapen the experience. We laughed about it with our server (did I mention the staff is outstanding?) and promised to complain about the silly chopsticks so management does something about them!
I highly recommend Parallax. We had a great experience (bar the chopsticks) and will certainly come back when we're back in town.

We ordered sushi. We have eaten sushi all over the world; many cities in the US, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, Germany come to mind.
The good news is that the fish at Parallax is good. But the bad news is that it is not served with sushi rice. Also, the fish was cut with the "grain," rather than cross-grain.
This was a thoroughly disappointing experience. I assume that there are good items on the menu, since it is a highly rated restaurant, but we will not be back to look (Incidentally, The South Side, right across the street in Tremont, is excellent)

EXCELLENT experience in every way! The atmosphere was calm and relaxed. The service (including the wonderful hosts and server) was outstanding - our server was very warm and attentive, and everything was timed perfectly. The food was absolutely mind-blowing. We ate a beautiful platter of extremely fresh and high quality sushi, followed by their delicious chocolate mousse cake for dessert. And just as a nice bonus...we indicated on our reservation via Resy that it was our anniversary, not expecting that to be noticed even in the slightest - but we were wished a happy anniversary by 4 different staff at this restaurant...they were so kind and made us feel special. Highly recommend this place. The 2 of us ate a total of 5 sushi rolls and dessert (no alcohol) and our total was only $96, which all in all is a great deal for a sushi dinner! Highly recommend for a nice night out.

Came in for an early dinner 9/23/2022, sitting in the portion of dining room close by to the open concept kitchen. Heard the chef go off cussing up a storm about god knows what, very unprofessional to be belligerent knowing customers can hear you. Service and food good as always.

Good service, great food. Great atmosphere. Forgot to take photos of the food because we were so excited to eat. The oysters are a little pricey, but those Blue Point oysters were phenomenal. Tried the strawberry fields alcoholic beverage and it was strong so I enjoyed it but my partner did not. Tried the cheesecake with crème anglaise and berries... one of the best cheesecakes we have ever had and my partner makes cheesecakes. Would come back if we were ever that way. Amazing experience.

We ordered the Shrimp Stuffed Pepper appetizer, Frisée salad, and Walleye special each of which were excellent. Food is worth going back for but the environment lacks originality.

Broccoli salad appetizer was good flavor but broccoli was needed cooked a minute more (although served cold), tempura gree beans were fantastic. bouillabaisse was very good, beef special was good but parsnips were hard. Green dragon roll was not great, shrimp was tough. Chefs garden cocktail was refreshing and would get again. Crem brule was a bit soft but great flavor.

Fresh bread and good EVOO are served at the start of the meal, but you’re better off saving room for the other food. Mushroom salad and pork belly appetizers were excellent. If you are sharing, they will gladly split the salad for you. White tuna sashimi with ponzu sauce was the best. Half off sushi on Monday is the cherry on top.

DO NOT order the Cassoulet, it gave my dad the worst food poisoning he’s experienced in years. Aside from it making my dad horribly sick just hours after having dinner, the food was seriously underwhelming. The restaraunt is disappointing as before going we knew it’s chef was world renowned, but the food aside from poisoning my dad just wasn’t great.

Food is average, Sushi is very average, we ordered one of the soft shell crab rolls and it tasted weird, had to go to the restroom and spit it out. Owner was standing right in front inspecting all the dishes which is often a great sign, but its just not there in terms of finesse and quality. Service and staff were great and we had great company which made then made up for the average Sushi, not sure if I will ever go back!! Google ratings are starting to get really misleading for me.....

I cannot say enough positive things about this restaurant. 1-the atmosphere is spot on. Has the vibe of a upscale yet cozy local spot in NYC…chic but not pretentious. 2-the service was top notch. All of the staff was attentive and working together to care for all the parties there. They are also very Covid conscious and safe which is a huge bonus 3- the food was outstanding. Each dish arrived to our table fresh from the kitchen, piping hot and amazing. The flavors are to die for. As an added bonus, Julian who manages the restaurant can give you great recommendations on wine selection. This just became my favorite spot in Cleveland. :) 10/10 recommend

I made reservations for Valentine's Day over a month ago at Parallax Restaurant and Lounge. We went for our reservation and they apparently think it is still acceptable to seat people on a patio when it is 18 degrees outside. Yes they have some type of walls, with curtains and space heaters but it is FAR from enough to keep the space warm. The patio was so cold that the seats were uncomfortable to sit on and after about 10-15 minutes I was shivering. The tables were cold to the touch. Anything you order is going to go cold way before you can possibly enjoy it. When I asked to be moved into the restaurant the waiter agreed it was cold. Well making a reservation over a month in advance only gets you a rude apology and told they have no other space for you in the restaurant. When I asked the girl what I was supposed to do at close to 8pm on Valentine's Day with no where else to eat as pretty much every thing else would either be closing or require a reservation of which I had from over a month ago she rudely replied "well you could just sit here." Every time this girl apologized she was in no way sorry, she seemed as if our request to sit inside the main restaurant with heat was a ridiculous request. My fiance asked her if she had actually sat outside and she just awkwardly started at him, which answered the question. We walked out as we were told that eating in the cold was our only option. Halfway to the car my finance turned back around to ask for a manager to speak to. When he went in they offered him a table. At this point there was no way I was paying a dine in this restaurant. I can definitely say I will never eat a Parallax.
On another note. Thanks Parallax for helping me find Mallorca. They graciously made space for us after hearing what you guys did to us and made sure we hade an amazing evening. Honestly there is no way we would have had a better dinner at Parallax. Glad I gave my $250 went to them and not you.
Parallax you really need to get your stuff together and stop overbooking your space to make an extra dime. Your customers do not deserve to be walked out your side door after walking through your heated main dining room to be put in a cold, poorly lit, and quiet room. Not only is it insulting it is just bad business.

Don’t bother……especially if you’re looking to spend a nice evening with your douse over a few cocktails and a nice meal……I just got a call to confirm our reservation letting me know we’d have an hour and a half at the table upon which point we’d be asked to leave in order to accommodate the next reservation. So if you want to drop a couple hundred dollars on meal and be shuffled in and out in the timeframe you’d typically spend at Bob Evans then enjoy! And don’t forget your mask! They’re still pushing that antiquated agenda. Keep in mind I called to make this reservation a couple weeks ago and no one ever mentioned TIMEFRAME RESTRICTIONS or MASKS……..that was only shared the day before the holiday weekend when everyone in town is already booked to capacity……..all under the guise of extending me a courtesy by letting me know. Well next time please extend the courtesy of communicating all your RESTRICTIONS when the original reservation is made so guests can make an informed decision when choosing how to spend their time and money!! If you choose to support such behavior…….eat fast!! You’re on the clock! Mr. Bruell (manager with whom I spoke) said so himself.

Very poor dining experience. Had reservations and was seated in the outside partition. My seat was so cold it felt like I was sitting on ice. Tried to move inside and was offered 6 inches of counter space in front of the sushi case. Which by the way i would not even think about ordering sushi here. Smelled awful. Several open tables. Several open barstools. We spent 90 per person to be treated like a charity case eating average food at best.

The food was amazing, and the wait staff very accommodating - even took special care regarding food allergies. HOWEVER - every 20 minutes, someone that I didn't see serving kept coming to our table, and instead of waiting to be acknowledged just immediately and loudly said "SORRY TO INTERRUPT" and then proceeded to try to get us to basically wrap things up. My first thought was that they needed the table, and maybe we should hurry, but then I realized this had happened three times within the first 60 minutes of being there AND he wasn't doing this to any of the other tables i could see. I feel like I really couldn't enjoy the meal. My plan was to share one of the samplers with my party, and then when that was done order a different sampler, so on an so on until we tried everything. Couldn't do it. Too much anxiety from this guy popping up, interrupting me mid sentence, ruining train of thought. Pretty bonkers for a mid-tier place like this.
Couple observations that are subjective, but maybe someone will benefit from my sharing - the decor and lighting was very relaxing. The place was very crowded, however, and there was evidently nothing solid between my seat and the booth behind me, because every time the person behind me shifted in their seat, it was pushing me in the back - almost made me spill my saké at one point.
Pros: Great food, appropriately priced, very accommodating staff
Cons: broken seat, really pushy staff

Parallax has, since moving to Cleveland, been my favorite restaurant. I have brought my family when they have visited, and I always recommended to my friends that they visit Parallax. Last week, I had a reservation for two on a Friday night. From the time we sat down at the table, we felt rushed - with the drinks, the appetizer, the dinner, and with the check. With the appetizer - we literally had forks in hand, and a waitress asked if she could take it out of the way. This also occurred with dinner - I just got back from the restroom, and after sitting down and picking up my fork, the waitress had asked if I had finished up with my meal. Towards the end of our meal, we were finishing up our drinks, and we noticed that the waiters/waitresses were pushing together tables next to us for a larger party that had not yet arrived. We finished up, signed the check, and as were getting up to leave, the waiter took the check in front of us (which we were told later on that this is their general practice). As we left the room, they started pushing the table and chairs we were sitting at to the larger party. Had each of these occurrences happened on separate nights - I would not have thought anything of this. I likely would have thought, "these waiters and waitresses are attentive and providing us with good service." However, looking at the big picture, we were being pushed out. My significant other and I were there for only 1 hour, 15 minutes.
To make matters worse, I called the restaurant, and I spoke with Julian (Director of Service, I believe). I purely wanted to convey my experience to him prior to writing a review. It is very unlike me to write any type of negative review, especially before having the chance to speak with someone about an experience. Had my feedback been met with positiveness and genuiness, I likely wouldn’t be writing this. Instead, I was constantly interrupted, and he was extremely condescending. He kept telling me “I apologize if you *seemed* rushed” or “I apologize if you feel that *in your eyes,* you were rushed.” He had even admitted that we were there for less than the average time a table of two sits at a table at Parallax. While he had offered to provide some type of compensation in the form of a complimentary appetizer or meal, I assured him multiple times that compensation was not why I was calling. I explained that the reason for my call was because this was truly one of my favorite restaurants in Cleveland, and I was hoping that by sharing my experience, there could be some change made in the future so that other customers do not feel the way we felt leaving the restaurant. However, he had to keep telling me that offering this complimentary food for a future visit was extremely generous, even after I told that I had to seriously consider whether I would return to this restaurant. He then ended the conversation asking if I had heard of some place he had previously worked, and then stated that he “knows fine dining.” Extremely disappointed, and I unfortuantely am not planning on returning.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite classy with a modern, yet, relaxed vibe. The staff is very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the calamari for an appetizer and it was very delicious and the dipping sauces complemented the dish very well. The Ramen entree and the Korean braised beef entrées were both absolutely amazing and I highly recommend them. There are spicy peppers in some of the dishes so beware if you don't like spicy! Overall it was such a wonderful experience from beginning to finish!

The smoked salmon and latkes appetizer is one of the best appetizers we have ever had. We have been here numerous times but finally tried the onion rings - again, the best we have ever had. I typically would dip them in ketchup but after taking one bite it was clear these didn't need anything to accompany them. The walleye entree is excellent as is the swordfish... As is the Peking chicken and most other entrees. The warm wildmushroom and frisee and pork belly salads are both delicious. Julian has tailored an excellent drink menu. Each of the wines he has hand selected will not disappoint.

Fancier than expected. The tap water in a fancy glass decanter gave me a chuckle, but definitely in good humor.
Calamari was fantastic, as well as the sushi. Cocktails and sake were also great.
Service is insanely attentive and kind, and the staff was even able to accommodate my disability and let my party sit before the restaurant opened. That kind of kindness really helped turn a bad disability day around. It can be really hard and isolating when I feel like my disability prevents me from going out, but the Parallax staff really went the extra mile to ensure I had as regular and comfortable a day as they could.

Amazing sushi, amazing apps, amazing service. Kelly and the rest of the team crushed it! The lobster roll and veggie roll were our favorites but truly everything was delicious! The vibes, music, decor all perfect for a date night

Great food and drink. The staff was VERY concerned when our waters were slightly low. It was almost too much attention. We were talking and it seemed like a constant interruption. But everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely check them out again.

Went here last night for the first time and holy moly was my meal amazing. The swordfish belly entree was hands down the best swordfish I’ve ever had.

Tonight was our first time at Parallax and it was great. The food was excellent and the sushi was exceptional and very fresh. Julien the manager on duty did a phenomenal job. He was all over helping his staff and his presence throughout the restaurant was very impressive. Can't wait to come back again!

Parallax is a winner! You can tell the people who work there care about what they do. This restaurant provided one of the best service experiences I've ever had. The wine menu is fun to explore and the expertise is there for advice. The sushi we had for an appetizer was well done. The entrees were very creative asian french fusion which were well prepared.

Fine dining! ✅
Valet! ✅
Accommodating ✅
Patio ✅
Well trained server ✅
Extensive menu ✅
Make reservations in advance if you don't want to dine outside on patio as we had to!! All was good, server was great = 27% tip! Only suggestion would be to make sure all of your patio tables are sturdy and free of wobbles. I liked my Crab roll and my date enjoyed her gluten free dinner. Was very accommodating. Server knew his stuff. Boggles my mind they can remember the half dozen new daily specials, describing the dish, sauces, and such. Impressed. I strongly recommend going to the end of the street and taking photos of the city view where you'll find a massive 6 person wooden swing!

Worst service ever. The waitress had a terrible disposition. There was a celebrity there, who she treated with the utmost respect, but constantly gave us an attitude, didn’t listen to anything we asked, kept whispering and staring at my party and said “what” to us . I don’t know if it was a racial issue or she just hates her job but I promise we’ll never be back. She didn’t even tell us her name. It was my birthday and my night was very unpleasant. Never again. The table was unclean, we had a reservation and took too long to get seated, she put our silverware on a dirty table, and after stating I didn’t want a piece of cake, they brought me a candle on an empty plate. DO NOT COME HERE! Blonde chick with glasses and a partial sleeve tattoo…. Do not work in customer service.

I was so excited to eat here for my birthday with my dad. He kept going on and on about how this is one of the best places to get fresh fish in the city. I assume the place had much better ambiance before covid but it was just weird eating there now... hopefully I can come back when everything is normal again. As for the food, it was yummy don’t get me wrong but I think the best Zack place in town in labatros. The best thing about my experience here was JULIAN the wine expert (also Zack’s son) he was truly wonderful. Such a great personality and so knowledgeable about wine. He rocks!

Very tasty food with despite being delicate. Love the sushi although a bit pricy. Definitely one of the top 3 cleveland restaurants on my opinion. It is impressive how the chef is able to blend american and thai cuisine

My friends, boyfriend, and myself ate here over the weekend and I usually don’t leave bad reviews because I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, however, this was an all-around terrible experience. First and foremost, the staff was extremely judgmental and eyed my party consistently throughout the night. Second, we had made a reservation for 5, assuming we could eat dinner, have dessert, and stay to enjoy a couple of drinks, but were promptly asked to leave at 7:30 because another reservation was scheduled for that time. We were never informed about this “time limit” prior to that moment, and the manager then informed us that she had moved said reservation to 8 pm (as if she was doing us a favor). Our food took 45 minutes to come out, we waited from 6:40 when we placed our orders, until around 7:20-7:30 for our meals. Even if we wanted to leave at 7:30, the food would not have been done by then. I ordered the salmon, which was around 24 dollars and came with no additional sides or vegetables. My friends stated that their food was cold, and they barely ate. Not to mention every single time we ordered an appetizer, drink, or bread, it was taken away from us by staff who walked over and promptly cleared the table without a word, even though we clearly still had portions of our appetizers left. It was an awful experience and the bill, for my boyfriend and myself that consisted of one salmon entree, two sushi rolls, and two beers for my boyfriend, was $90. NEVER AGAIN.

Wonderful atmosphere however I was unable to eat there as I have a shellfish allergy and they informed me that they cross contaminate and I would have a reaction because all of the prep is done in the same spot...

Overall great food and service. Some of the things were new to me so I ordered off of what I thought I'd like. Started with the escargot and potstickers. Potstickers were alittle on the salty side from the sauce in the bowl. Loved the play on escargot. We then ordered the frisee and sashimi salad. Loved them both. Very good flavor. For dinner got the surf and turf sushi which was phenomenal and the cod dinner. I loved the cod but was not a huge fan of the risotto. It was on the sweet side. For dessert got the chocolate mousse cake and strawberry shortcake. Loved both of them equally.

I am not a price shopper by any means. I have never had thinner cut sashimi anywhere ever. I dont think I could cut lemon wedges that thin. I'm sorry, I will pay whatever is asked but the slices were see through.

It was our first time here and it won't be our last! Fantastic is the first word I can think of to describe our meal. The service was top-notch, and our server ( Janelle) couldn't have been more helpful. She was just a perfect mix of information and hospitality. We were shocked ( but delighted) to find out the sushi was half off... a perk for us older folks that enjoy an earlier meal. Everything was great, but as I lay here writing my review, I wish I had another steak roll right now. Seriously considering making a reservation for tomorrow... it was THAT good!

We had a fabulous experience here this weekend. My husband and I came in for dinner and were impressed with the COVID precautions taken (including temperature checks at the door). Beyond that, the service was exquisite. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and we had multiple staff checking in on us throughout our meal - refilling waters, seeing how we enjoyed our meals, and checking if we needed anything. We also enjoyed the happy hour and half-priced sushi. The food overall was excellent. My only criticism is that the curry vegetables were a little undercooked, but outside that, the small plates made a perfect meal. We’re looking forward to coming back!

I came to Parallax with a friend to try for an early birthday dinner. It was our first time there. The place’s ambience is great. The service is amazing. The place is clean and tavles are properly distanced. You have to try the beef short rib potstickers. They are phenomenal. The calamari is great too. For sushi we ordered: Rainbow Roll, Spider Roll, and Lobster Roll. The sushi tasted fresh and amazing. I’ll be back soon!!

We have always had a great time visiting Parallax throughout the pandemic. Tonight we went to celebrate my birthday. Near the end of the meal, a cockroach appeared crawling around the booth. My wife and son were uncomfortable sitting down again, The manager offered to seat us at another table, and then brought us the full check and explained that they had a lot of that lately with construction going on upstairs. No offer to make it better, nothing to make us believe this was out of the ordinary or that we had any right to expect anything else. So disappointing.
