Can't talk about this place enough! After every bite, I literally said "oh my god" because I was blown away.
You will spend closer to $200 for a party of two but you're doing it the right way!
Smaller place so a reservation is necessary.
Service was AMAZING! Told the server it was my birthday and he didn't disappoint (I wish I remembered his name)
Will definitely be coming back

We had a great time for our first time eating there. The food is excellent was super shocked how big the tofu is in the miso soup. We did want to try the omakase but chose to just try some different stuff to get a feel for what this place was. We did try some different stuff that I wouldn't typically eat and it was all delicious. Lots of different flavors come together.

Loved spending our evening with him and having a wonderful time. Loved it!

I am mad at myself that it took us this long to get here. We are LONG TIME Dante fans, but every time we talked about getting sushi, something came up. This time we made it, and were blown away by the cozy room, the stellar service, the very skilled sushi chefs, the fresh ingredients and the creativity involved in each selection. Then to top off the night, out walks Dante from the kitchen. It warms my culinary heart to see how attentive he is to his craft and those who represent him. We spent an anniversary at Chef's table with him some years ago. Awesome person! Awesome sushi night, and since it took us so long to get here, it will be a regular trip until we've tried EVERYTHING on the menu!

One of my favorite places to stop by along my long route from my workplace in the Midwest to home on the East coast.
Maybe the most authentic sushi restaurants in Cleveland and they have a lot of the fishes you won't find in your Americanized sushi restaurants from uni to scallops to toros.
Had to take off a star because there was a time when nigiris came in a set for the same price.

Food is very overpriced for the quality. The quality is okay, but it just doesnβt match the price point. Also, the oysters do not taste good with the additional seasoning.

Those steeps steps almost had me running for the hills but thank God I chose to experience this hidden Cleveland GEM because this has become the STAPLE of our dining experiences in NE Ohio.
The quaint seating, attention to cleanliness, focus on guest experience and top level cuisine just scratch the surface on why this should be a MUST on your regularly scheduled dining agenda.
Joey and staff have created an atmosphere where you can go for an amazing happy hour or an experience that makes you feel like you are dining in a Michelin star restaurant in Miami. Ginko has been our staple, Joey has been the best GM we have ever experienced, and this restaurant should be at the top of the list of places to visit (and regularly) in Cleveland.
Ps- Omakase Tasting and Otsukuri Omakase are worth every penny and if ask Joey for the hidden gem, you wonβt be disappointed!!

Phenomenal everything the service was exceptional and very Demure they are all very attentive and helpful with anything you ask for I love the Shrimp Tempura best Iβve ever had I believe my drink of choice was a Katakana with gin very fruit and delicious dessert was also nice and decadent great happy hour choices and the best part is you get to watch them create right in front of you, I recently went here for a friends date and I actually arrived earlier than her so they seated me at the bar next to to very sweet woman which one ends up passing out in my me due to her having just donating blood earlier in the day I had no choice but to jump into action and try to help revive her just wanted to thank the staff for their support and excellent communication they helped get her back comfortable safely and that showed that this place is more than just a restaurant I will most definitely be back π

Would've been a four star had we not had a very interesting overcharge on our bill.
8 people eating, 6 had omakase. Charged us for everything plus an extra 6 omakase ($750). So a $1300 bill turned out to be over $2000. When asked about it they said it was a mistake because of the computer system.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? Because if it's a computer issue, I'm guessing it happens often?
Either that, or people just pay it unknowingly without looking at the bill, which I'm guessing is what they hope would've happened with us.
The experience was great (only semi complaint is a little bit of slow service but with this kind of meal it's understandable), but I feel they were trying to take advantage when 2 people were splitting a bill for 8 people and hoping we just wouldn't notice.

It's a Dante restaurant (located under Dante!), so you get a great meal as expected. Prices are steeper than Goma and the dining area is very crowded. You'll be rubbing elbows and trying to arrange your plates the whole meal. If you're looking for sushi, check out Goma.

I came in here after an art show at Third Fridays about a month ago on a solo date with yours truly. Sometimes a girls just got to treat herself!
I sat at the bar which allowed me to see the artists at work. The seating was comfortable and the staff made me feel as if I wasnβt alone. The bathrooms cracked me up. The signs are symbols so you kind of just stand there perplexed until someone directs you. It gave me a good chuckle. This dinner choice came highly recommended by other foodies in the area, so I came ready to eat!
I started with a tequila cocktail called the Katakana. It was very good and I was a little unsure if I was actually going to like it when I ordered so it was a very pleasant surprise.
Then I had a few rolls, all of which were absolutely wonderful. The Eye of the Tiger was the last plate I ordered but absolutely my favorite of all of my choices. I took a Mochi surprise box for on my way home and I can hands down tell you it was one of the best moves Iβve made in a long time! They had passion fruit and matcha and a few other flavors, all of which were amazing. Some of them I had never had so it was really nice to try new mochi options.
It was an expensive date but well worth the quiet and good eats! Iβll 10/10 be back soon but probably with a friend because this place is worth sharing the experience with others!

Best Sushi Iβve ever had. Loved the space and every bit of the food. So many wonderful flavors. Sat near the head chef who explained the food expertly and talked to us when he could spare a moment. Very expensive, but worth every cent. We were looking for a night with awesome food, price no object and this place delivered.
Reserve far out or expect to sit at the bar. We loved that vibe but it was a tight space. Be ready for that.
Edit - now been multiple times. They have only gotten better. 6/5 stars.

I also had the Kyoto #3 cocktail made with rye whiskey, passion fruit, mint, lime and ginger beer. It was ALL delicious. Would order the cocktail again! This place will definitely be our new "go to" when craving sushi. Also enjoyed the atmosphere. It was clean, beautifully decorated and the service was amazing.

The sushi here is good, just objectively good. So too is the service. The restaurant is small so you will need to make a reservation. Prices are reasonable but Cleveland natives might view it more as a splurge or special occasion dinner. Personally, I didnβt care for the vibe/decor. Felt too dark to me but it really doesnβt detract from the food.

Walked in with a party of 3 for dinner on a Tuesday night. There was plenty of space at the bar so we didn't have to wait. Started off with a Hitachino XR beer, and proceeded with some amazing sushi. We ordered a little bit of everything - some standouts included the negitoro handroll, otoro, and unagi. Enjoyed the ambiance of sitting at the bar and getting served immediately by the sushi chef. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area.

Best sushi in Cleveland? Definitely best sushi I've ever had.
The subterranean restaurant tucked between houses is completely unassuming when one first walks in.
The focus is on the ingredients: the most extensive list of fish and seafood with great vegetarian sushi options too. There are also fabulous cocktails, and amazing knowledgeable staff with perfect recommendations.
We tried raw shrimp which was fabulous, as well as a good selection of fish: snapper, salmon, tuna, eel and more.

Delectable sushi sitting at the bar. The ingredients are incredible. Of course, the fish--the Toro especially--but even the avocadoes are incredible, fresh, flavorful, sweet. The prices are good too, and I'd argue that though it is not an inexpensive place, this is great value for money.
Atmosphere was cheery and energetic, especially on a cold winter day. We made animated conversation and there was animated conversation all around. But really this place is about the food. I would go here even to eat in silence, maybe especially to eat in silence.

I used to love Ginko but my most recent experience on 11/4 was far from the several experiences I had there. And when I say love, the Manager there knew us by name and always asked us if we were coming back next week because we went that often. They rid of the most amazing Oyster App Iβve ever had in my life. Which consisted of a set of fried oysters and then two other sets of raw oysters with some delicious concoctions on top. The rice under the Nigiri did not taste the same. It used to have the most wonderful mixture of rice, wasabi & whatever other ingredients were added to it. I was so sad to have this experience. I really hope the next time it goes back to the wonderful place it used to be.

This is very good sushi, the best I have found in Cleveland, as an occasional visitor. I count it overpriced by a considerable margin given Chicago and Minneapolis spots that I know, but Ginkgo (The Bank in Japanese, the character having the same meaning in Chinese) seems to have little competition.
Good fish, fresh and attractively presented. Bring your wallet. (Try Kaisecki in Minneapolis if you're doing a Midwestern tour :))

We made reservations 3 months in advance when we heard that this is THEE place for sushi. It's in a great neighborhood, we used valet parking (highly recommended) because street parking was packed. FYI - The restaurant is a lower level, so as far as I saw, not handicap friendly. When we walked in, the first thing we noticed was the close quarters. Once we got seated and got a sense of the atmosphere, it felt like an authentic Japanese restaurant that you see in movies. Our server, Alexander was amazing! Fun personality and very attentive. We never had to ask for a thing. We would recommend Ginko to any sushi lover looking for authentic atmosphere and incredible sushi and drinks! We will be back !

This restaurant needs a Michelin Star!
Amazing restaurant, probably the best I've been to in Cleveland. It's a tiny hidden gem, it took us a while to get a reservation, they are usually booked out. Every dish we had was awesome, the sashimi, sushi and appetizers were excellent. The drinks were good too and so was the service. Our waitress was very helpful and efficient. I think we will visit Ginko every month! It's expensive but not exorbitant, very aptly priced. A must try!
Edit - our second visit and I'm convinced they should get a Michelin star!

Always so good! The sushi is well done and incredible. It does have a great atmosphere though and does feel like a place you would find in Japan.

The place:
Itty bitty, lots of character. Thereβs a horseshoe bar around the sushi chefs, a couple two-person high tops, and a couple booths. Itβs small enough that often (so I eavesdropped) the tables are only for reservations.
The location:
Ginkgoβs is a little tricky to find if youβre looking for a door at sidewalk level. If youβre looking at Dante, take the stairs on the right down under the Ginkgoβs awning. Thereβs plentiful free street parking.
The food:
Easily the best sushi Iβve ever had. Fish was fresh, rolls were a mix of old favorites (spicy tuna) and unique (Yama roll with sweet potato and purple potato). We shared seven rolls amongst the two of us and every single piece was an utter delight.
The service:
Excellent. Itβs a hot hand towel type of place, so I felt spoiled. They were also very attentive with our water and knowledgeable about the rolls. We even ended up with the ginkgo roll on the recommendation of our server.
Next time:
I might need to try the miso soup!

We enjoyed this place. The sushi is very good and there really isnβt anything like it in the Cleveland area. Itβs authentic Japanese with high quality food. My only knock is the tight quarters. Itβs in a small basement room and there is not much space to really settle in and enjoy yourself. I felt like if I shifted around the wrong way in my chair, I could cause mass chaos and dramatically ruin the mojo in the whole room. Definitely get the Miso soup to start, great flavor and they serve it without a spoon which felt weird at first but I got into it after a few sips.
Visited 2 years ago
Cool little place and great friendly service. Only criticism is some of our sushi rolls were small and looked like a kid rolled them. Some were falling apart and Iβve gotten better rolled rolls at the local big box grocery stores in the area. I would stick with the specialty items that you donβt find at other βless fancyβ sushi spots. The fatty tuna and uni were fresh and delicious. Miso soup was some of the best Iβve ever had. Just the more regular type sushi rolls were not worth the price imo.

Then when my sister arrived we let her call the shots from there.
Spicy tuna roll was the best weβve ever had! Salmon belly was delicious and fresh. Everything we tried was delicious and best sushi Iβve had from anywhere!
Portion sizes are a bit small so plan to spend a decent amount, but youβre getting quality over value so itβs worth it! 10/10 canβt wait to go again!

It's SO hard to find LEGIT Japanese food in Cleveland (or Ohio for that matterπ
) and not like.. Americanized Japanese food...
THIS place is the closest I've found to REAL Japnese food ππ»π€
Their Miso Soup reminds me of the miso soup I had for school lunch every day when I lived in Japan.
And their sushi/sashimi π£ selection is pretty extensiveππ»β¨
I'm just sad that they don't provide any other Japanese dishes... Like pickled vegetables, egg-drop soup, θγγγγιγγγηΌγγγ²γγγ΅γ©γγγγΌγγ΅γ©γγγγ«γγγγγ§γπ’
π₯π₯π₯ Why don't you serve these basic, traditional, Japanese dishes???
There's so much more to Japanese food than sushi and ramen π© (well.. ramen is Chinese.. but.. w.e)
I was impressed by the list of JAPANESE SAKE! πΆπ€©β¨π―ππ»
They had cold AND hot sakeπ₯°ππ»πΆβ¨
Amazing!
They were playing my favorite anime on TV: NARUTO!ππ»π₯°
And the friendly STAFF & cozy, shwanky AMBIANCE alone is enough for me to keep coming back!π―β¨ππ»
I love this place!
Oh, and hot towels are only used in the winter π
when it's cold outside....
Cold towels are used in the summer when it's hot outsideππ»
I'm just being nit-picky π
haha.

We couldn't get a reservation, so we took a chance and went right when they opened. That's when we understood why. The restaurant is tiny with just a few tables, but with a decent amount of seats at the sushi bar. We loved the ambiance. The vibe was very sexy. We started with the oyster trio, and they were possibly the best oysters Iβve had. The sushi tasted very fresh and was delicious. The service was on point, and you could tell the staff worked as a team. We highly recommended it for a more intimate dinner. I wouldn't recommend large parties.

After reading a review of Ginko and the mention of directly importing fish from overseas we were anticipating an above average meal: however, I wouldnβt say we were disappointed but at the same time, not overly enthused and ultimately learned that products are sourced at local wholesale providers conflicting prior information that indicated they personally had products directly delivered via air.
The sushi was just average at best, the environment was stuffy with very little air flow due to the underground location and it was very hot, needed AC or outside air exchange of some sort.
On the service end, Iβll give it a 6.5, somewhat slow and not paying attention to beverage refills, we had to ask someone other than our server, Nick, for refills.
Drinks/wine = expensive with average pricing on popular rolls, some selections on the menu at a extremely high price point.
We are pleased that we at least made the visit, however, we will not be returning.
Some of the best sushi weβve experience is at Pacific East in Cleveland Heights.

Highly recommend!
The restaurant is located hidden in a basement with a great atmosphere. As it is below ground the light is dimm, and one needs a minute to arrive. I would recommend to either call ahead to make sure there is enough space for the party.
For the food, it was great and the whole experience was delightful. The amount for each roll of sushi is enough to get a taste without being overwhelming. With a variety of drinks you can pair and add to the flavors on the table.
I had a great time there with a party of 4 and would choose Ginko again any day of the week.

Best sushi I've had yet. Admittedly my sushi bar has been set pretty low as I've never been to a place of this caliber. That being said, I know enough to say with confidence this place is top notch. Service and staff are all friendly and excellent. Ask them for recommendations and try something new. The atmosphere iis really cool despite the restaurant's small size. It just had the right feeling for what that's worth. Sit at the bar and watch the masters make the food in front of you. It was fun watching all the different types of sushi being made.
The seared salmon belly and seared scallop nigiri were excellent and easily my favorites. Try the salmon roe too. I was pleasantly surprised and roe has loads of good nutrients. All in all everything we got was excellent. It's easy to spend a ton of money but it was all worth it. Go give them a try.

The sushi here was just amazing, from the basic rolls and nigiri to the special rolls. The place is really busy and there's not many tables to reserve, but you can put your name in for a walk in seat at the bar which is probably the way to go unless you have a really big group. Will definitely go again!

At Gingko, I had a wonderful time with excellent service and a delicious food. Everything was delicious, fresh, and well-prepared. I recommend it to everyone.

SO DISAPPOINTED!! I highly recommend this place to my sister because of my experience in the past; delicious food and drinks, great service, cool atmosphere... My sister and her husband decided to take my sushi-loving 9 year old niece for her birthday at 5 pm on a Thursday. They were seated in the almost empty restaurant and the server stood by and impatiently waited for them to scan the drink menu. My sister, sensing the server's irritation rushed to place an order and unknowingly ordered a drink that contained alcohol for my niece. Instead of politely pointing out her mistake and suggesting a virgin drink, the server told her with distain that the beverage was inappropriate for my niece and that she needed to order something else. My sister, embarrassed, rushed to place another order. The server delivered the drinks and waited another 20 minutes to deliver my brother in law's, no explanation given.
The server's attitude improved slightly when it became obvious that they were planning on ordering a significant amount of food, but my sister and her husband felt uncomfortable throughout the rest of their dinner. They would have left following the drink debacle but my niece was so excited to try some new kinds of sushi and they didn't want to ruin her birthday dinner.
I worked in the service industry for years and know that a few important things create a great experience for a patron- be patient, deliver drinks in a timely manner and have some sort of communication skills. Oh, also.. I didn't think I would have to add this, but don't embarrass your guests and WATCH YOUR ATTITUDE. So disappointed in one of my favorite Tremont spots.

My favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Service is always great and food never disappoints! My favorite is the spicy tuna roll, but love all of it. Tried the social sparkling wine cocktail tonight, hibiscus cucumber and it was fantastic.

Was here for the first time last night. Honestly the sushi here isn't even that great. Bland no flavor. Super expensive not even fine dining quality. Super tight narrow room like are you serious?? The waiter was amazing though very friendly very helpful π. I wouldn't come back here for the damn bland Super expensive food though. You guys need to hire better sushi chefs forreals they look like they didn't wanna be there lol. Overall all the hype was just a big disappointment for my taste buds. You want true authentic fine dining experience? West coast is the best coast my friends. β

First time coming back post Covid. Quite possibly the best meal I've ever had in Cleveland. I didn't know they could get/make sushi of this quality in Cleveland. Blows away every other sushi place in Cleveland by a mile; I have been to all of them and like many of them, but this was on a whole different stratosphere.

Cozy little sushi place. Love the atmosphere and intimate feel of the smaller space. In the discussion for the best sushi/sashimi in the greater cleveland area.

Nice cute little Japanese restaurant with great food. Because it is located at downstairs of the building your cellular reception is poor. Their veg tampura is great! I wish that place is little bigger to accommodate more people. Otherwise, the food, service and ambience was nice.

The only thing prevents me from going back again and again is the price, considering the narrow space. The price is for fine dining, not bar nor cube. I recommend the owner to change the restaurant to a fine indoor space.
Every dish is great though. We love the fried shrimp head!!!

Only place I go for sushi in CLE.
Having lived in Pacific Northwest for decades, I've had my share of great seafood and sushi. Tried many places in Cleveland but hands down, Ginko is my favorite.
Not may sushi restaurants have hamachi Kama or hotaru ika (seasonal) but I've had both at Ginko, both excellently prepared.
The sushi chef is amazing and a true maestro.

I have been coming to Ginko since 2014. They used to have an original from Japan sushi Chef. He is no lpnger there but his quality style still lives on strongly.
I love quality Sushi, and my best friend is a chef dependent from Japan. So i always get access to fresh quality fish. I Must say that Ginko Sushi is within my top 4 of the whole NA continent with a Sushi restaurant in Montreal (Sushi Yasu), New York, Las Vegas.
Fyi to the ppl expecting low cost sushi, you are best served elsewhere, Ginko selects their fish carefully and the taste and quality speaks for itself.

Went to this restaurant maybe a year or so ago. Never wrote a review. My husband and I still rave about this place. The food was amazing. Sushi was freaking amazing. Just everything was amazing. I actually tried sea urchin and my goodness... It was great. If you are looking for a kinda nerdy atmosphere and a good experience go here. It is pricy but super worth it. The next time we go we are going to reserve a table to be able to try the kobe beef. Even if we can't reserve a table, as long as we get in that is all I care about. Will definitely go again.
