Foodie go-to for Japanese sushi & small plates
Great foods and great service!
I was dying to try this place and it’s so worth the hype! I came for a quick lunch and i left full and happy 🥰
I picked the lunch combo which came with 6 pcs of nigiri, a spicy tuna hand roll, miso soup or salad (i chose salad for my combo and i was happy that i did). The salad came with a special dressing (my guess is yuzu but i’m not sure) it was light and refreshing
The nigiri 🍣 was also amazing (the fish quality is 🤌🏻)
Service was great! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable.
The decor and atmosphere is great for any occasion. I’ll def be back

I had high hopes for this sushi restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of my expectations. I sat at the bar for the omakase, but it felt as though I could have just as easily dined outside the main dining area, as the entire omakase was served all at once with no interaction from the sushi chefs. The nigiri was decent, but the spicy tuna hand roll was disappointing—wrapped in a strange non-nori paper and far too sweet and over-seasoned for my taste. Thankfully, the negitoro I ordered was quite enjoyable. Overall, while the experience was acceptable, it felt more like a conveyor-belt operation than the intimate, personalized omakase I was hoping for.

I recently had the pleasure of going to Sushi Mon. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I called to see if we would be able to be served and they set proper expectations stating all of the current tables were full and that it takes about an hour plus for diners to enjoy their meal. Luckily I was about an hour away. When we arrived the hostess that greeted us was very kind with a beautiful and welcoming smile. She again except proper expectations and said we would have a short wait. We ask if we could order drinks, she said we could and so we ordered some drinks while we waited. Please note, the bar is for dining so do not expect to have a pre drink at the bar. Luckily there is seating outside the restaurant and plenty of standing room. The restaurant is in a complex of a mix of office buildings, retail and restaurants. The "outside" seating is actually not outside but inside a lobby area. We enjoyed our drinks and waited about 10 to 15 minutes and we're seated. Our server almost immediately approached us and ask if we were okay on drinks or if we wanted anything additionally. We did order another round of drinks. We reviewed the menu while we waited for him to return and during that time we saw so many delicious looking items come out our excitement grew. When the server came back he was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided many recommendations. We ordered seaweed salad and the rock salt seared salmon as an appetizer and place the rest of our order which included in an Unagi Roll and unfortunately two other rolls I can't remember the name of. Our appetizers came out quickly and they were exquisite. Not long after we finished our appetizers our sushi came out and it was incredible. The texture is an individual taste each bite or spectacular. The atmosphere was not quiet nor loud but easy conversational. It is not cheap and I would not expect it to be.This restaurant deserves its five-star rating.

After an absolute two weeks of hell, I determined the best course of action would be to take my niece to Sushi. She is really smart and knows her Sushi, she asked if I wanted quality or quantity. I am old, I want quality, if I want more, they will bring it. We went to Sushi Mon. It is a very well appointed setting and pretty cozy really. The hostess gave us a choice of seating, bar or table. Bar of course, we want to see the action. The wait staff was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive but not intrusive. We started with the 24 hour pork belly and yellow tail crudo. The pork belly was to die for, tender, savory with delightful sweet sauce. My niece wanted to lick the plate clean of the sauce it was so good. The crudo, the presentation was a delight. It came covered with a bottle of smoke. The seranos were there but not over powering. I am pretty sure this fish happy with his ending too. For mains we had Nigiri Omakase, Kiss of Fire, and Unagi roll. The Nigiri Omakase came with mother's miso, this is what all miso would be like if our mother's loved us, it almost made me believe. The rest of the Nigiri Omakase was amazing, a wonderful sampling! I think the favs were the shrimp and hand rolls. The Kiss of Fire made me reminisce of Katia and Maurice Krafft, it was probably worth being on Mount Unzen those years ago. Eel roll, you cannot go wrong! We finished with a chocolate mouse cake and a Carmel popcorn ice cream cake orgy thing. My niece got a bit over excited when the popcorn orgy appeared, she has a THING for corn and being ruled by the moon, she threw her spoon on the floor. I was able to pilfer one popcorn, my niece was not fully on her game or I would have been bloodied for my theft. In addition to recovering from two weeks of hell, she was having corngasms in her mouth, enough to knock anyone off their game methinks. Needless to say it was incredible. When we left my niece said she was going to sell her house and move to a trailer so she can eat there every meal!

Unique dining experience... while this restaurant provides a somewhat high quality dining experience, the actual inside seating area is very limited. The restaurant has managed to extend seating out into the buildings hallway, which was rather off putting at first thought. You will have people walking through, but it really wasn't an issue after our party of 15+ began to settle in.
Drinks and appetizers were prompt given the size of our party, and we received a gracious offering on the house for our table. The quality of the Sushi was very good and the server was attentive and engaged.
While I did enjoy the food I cant really say that I'd want to sit out in the hallway again. The inner dining would accommodate a cozy date night if you'd like to try it for yourself.

We've been to Sushi Mon several times. Service and food is always top notch. It is a small restaurant so sometimes there is a wait, but well worth it.

Met the owner, Chris, who explained this is the smaller restaurant in North Carolina. Only 500 sq ft with 5 sushi chefs and only about a dozen tables. They pay attention to very dish with quality ingredients. A real gem here.
Note: they don’t do take out on weekends.

Very good sushi. We had to sit on the bar since the bus girl is unwilling to sit us at the table for four, but the table is actually two small tables put together which can be easily moved a bit splitting to two tables each for two people.

Although I love to give positive reviews, this restaurant has a serious ventilation issue. On 12-12-24 our eyes were burning and our clothes stick due to a ventilation issue. They need to call in a professional before they end up in a lawsuit.

This was top-level sushi for the triangle. We had several selections from each area of the menu and it was all very fresh and much of it was very uniquely presented. The setting is very corporate-like, but they did a great job decorating the interior and making the small, intimate space feel roomy and elegant. Many of the sauces were custom from someone who understands great taste and proportion! The homemade soy sauce and miso were winners. Chirashi and tuna appetizer are fantastic. The only slight miss we had were the unagi buns, as the eel and salmon skin were fine, but the buns seemed so ordinary they were out of place compared to the rest of the alternatives.
We will return again soon!

Food is amazing, we’ve heard nothing but amazing reviews about this place and sushi mon did not disappoint. Love the layout, it’s a small-ish restaurant but it’s intimate and you see the sushi chefs working hard. Food was 10/10, recommend the rock salt salmon, kiss of fire and tuna truffle roll. Kenny was our server and he was 10/10, he gave amazing advice on the rolls, was attentive, kind, and super great. Loved the experience, will be back FOR SURE!

Wow! This might be the best sushi I’ve had and I’ve been to Japan, NYC, etc. I don’t normally review restaurants but this was an exceptional sushi experience. I had the 24 Hour Pork Belly as an appetizer (tender and delicious) and salmon, mackerel, toro, and ikura nigiri sushi… beautiful presentation and flavor. No soy sauce or wasabi offered or required for this order. The other hot and cold dishes looked amazing as well—wish I had more room to try the fish collars! I’m sure the rolls are good, but the nigiri are amazing!

Sat in the place for 40min without even been asked if I needed anything to drink.
The clientele had faded while waiting and even at that point no attempt to take a drink order was made while 4 of the staff were hanging by the counter 6ft away from my table.
By the time I decided to leave I forgot what I wanted to order ….
Just another pretentious place with terrible service !

Food and service are all 5 star. However, in the overall rating, -1 for the tight space. You are essentially eating in a hotel’s lobby and hallway; and -1 for the price and limited menu.

Delicious! If you are looking for an authentic Japanese place for quality sashimi and sushi, this is your spot. The dishes were created with fresh fish as the star of the show! We almost didn’t try this place due to some reviews saying the sushi was not great but if you like true Japanese and not the over Americanized sushi rolls then this is your place! Service was excellent, vibes were cozy and upscale (great date night) and fish was FRESH.

I'm not sure if I would come back. The sushi was okay, not the best I had in the triangle like everyone hypes it up to be. The restaurant is way to small, looks like you are sitting in a lobby, also has a horrible view of a office area where the tables in the "lobby" are placed. We waited 30 minutes on a Friday which it typical, that was fine. Our waiter was super friendly and sweet, but idk the atmosphere and the food wasn't the best. It was okay sushi.

It’s good sushi but I would recommend trying take out. The food and service is amazing but the restaurant is too small. We were seated right away on a Saturday night without reservations but at the counter seats. It was ok for me to sit the counter but it would be nice if they had more tables. The service is top notch. There is a long wait for just dumplings and 2 rolls but they are very delicious. The drinks are pretty expensive for cheap wine. Just get the sushi to go so you don’t waste money on cheap wine and skip the wait for a table.

The fish is high quality and does not need much to embellish its taste so the simpler options are your best bet. Indeed there are few special rolls as it appears this is the intent of the restaurant. Unfortunately the ambiance is strange as most often you end up being seated in the lobby of the building. I preferred the restaurant when it was on Hillsborough street honestly as it was more cohesive and felt more like a restaurant. This lobby vibe is not it. Meanwhile the service, while overly friendly (too much imho I wanted the waiter to shut up and leave us alone. At one point he was bragging how they use the same supplier as M Sushi. No one cares.), is slow. We waited over half an hour for straws. The food also takes forever. We ordered 1 special roll, 1 regular roll and 2 pieces of nigiri. I am not sure why that simple order took an hour to be made. The waiter brought some ginger and fresh wasabi ahead of the sushi and we ended up nibbling on those for 20 minutes because we were starving. Even the green tea took a while when we ordered a second pot. I liked Sushi Mon when I came last time but I think I will stick to Masa on my side of town in Cary rather than trek all the way out to Raleigh for this nonsense.

The food was good. We ordered the sashimi and a California roll. The premium for what we got seemed high. Sashimi $49 (too high IMO for the quantity/quality). The California roll was < $10 so ok price for value. The issue we had was the service 2 star. Long wait times between ordering and follow up. When the food was finally delivered I ordered another drink which was never delivered. Our water glasses were totally empty for >15 minutes. The atmosphere was a hallway in an office building? This qualifies for 2 stars at best.

Whoa. I think we're all still wow'd at this place. It's upscale sushi of the finest caliber but is still casual, meant to be food first and less floofy than other spots. First off, the dining area is small and quaint, like mid-town Manhattan quaint, or, more likely, traditional Japanese eatery quaint. The sashimi and omakase were simply incredible with fresh wasabi, aged soy sauce and unique accompaniments that really brought out the flavors of the fish. Service was excellent and on point, but I think what brought it over the top was the ambience. I'm usually on high alert when trying something new and the way the restaurant is laid out really makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. I would've liked a more robust bar/cocktail scene, but their sakes are unique and the wine list didn't disappoint. It's tough to find though, make sure you head inside the building at this locale to find this place. Honestly, if you want traditional, upscale sushi this is top notch.

Chose sushi mon for fathers day/ date night with my wife, was thinking of going to sushi 9 and ended up choosing here because of the reviews on google and other forums. Waited about 30 mins for an inside table. Ordered the crunchy salmon roll, 24Hr pork belly, gyoza, and my wife ordered the avocado roll. I just wanna say the service was exceptional. She was very attentive. The 24 pork belly was melt in your mouth amazing. The sushi was fresh and tasty, but overall i cant say it was “the best ive ever had” just yet. The gyoza was standard, nothing special but executed well. My wifes avocado roll was fresh and good. I finished off with the chocolate cake—incredible. Thank you for the special evening.

It was a mixed experience for us, food was okay-ish but it's what happened in the end that really soured the entire experience for us.
Went there for the first time on my birthday after hearing good things about it. The food was a hit-and-miss. The sushi rolls were a bit loose and sloppy, though the sashimi was decent and the Chirashi bowl was quite good. Overall, the food was okay, but not exceptional. However, after we're done and asked for the check, knowing it was my birthday, the wait staff brought out a slice of chocolate cake. Mind you, we did not want dessert nor had we ordered any, so we were pleasantly surprised thinking they're being so nice and this was a complimentary gesture. They only brought out the check after we already started working on the cake (the cake was okay-ish at best), and that's when I noticed they were charging me for the cake as well.
It felt like a manipulative tactic to increase the bill. We didn't argue and paid the bill, but this left a very bad taste in our mouths. This kind of practice makes you question about the integrity of the restaurant and wonder if they genuinely care about their customers or are just looking to make a quick buck.

My husband and I loved the sushi. I had the salmon crunch role. 10/10 sushi. I highly recommend their mother's miso soup as well. It was the best miso soup I've had. We also shared the gyoza. Impressive sushi! Their sashimi are very fresh and fatty😍. Highly recommend the sashimi plate. We also love their hot dishes - we tried donburl, udo and pork belly. Donburl is very creative - love the combinations of taste in it. Udo is very nice as well - I am not a big fan of udo in generally but sushimon’s udo is pretty good. Pork belly also has that ‘melt in your month’ kind of texture. Chirashi is like a poke bowl with sashimi that is so colorful and pleasing to look at for a very good price. The miso soup is creative too - I like the freshness of salmon in it. Overall probably the best sushi in the area (my opinion)
Fav dish - chirashi, donburi, black cod, sashimi plate

The sashimi plate is world class. Such great fish! Sitting in the lobby of an office building is a bit weird. It took 25 minutes for someone to take our order when we arrived at 5:35 PM. They are definitely understaffed. No major issues with the wait but it took 80 minutes to have dinner. Restaurant holds 40 people and there were 10-15 people waiting when we left

There's nothing to complain about when it comes to the food here. On our first visit, we chose from the lunch menu, which was both appealing to the eye and offered healthy, tasty options. For those who are particularly fond of sashimi, the Chirashi and Mon Bento come highly recommended. The Chirashi was a delight, featuring a variety of fresh fish and was definitely worth its $23 price tag. Ordering a hot bowl of soup can be especially comforting during winter. Initially, I opted for a salad but soon switched to a unique soup, a rarity in other places, which even inspired me to experiment with a salmon soup recipe in my kitchen. The restaurant's location in a new building adds to its charm, providing a fresh and spacious ambiance, especially enjoyable when dining outdoors.

I’m an Omakase fanatic and a native New Yorker and I have to say this place is fantastic. Staff were great and even gave us some of their tamago to try for free as they were closing the kitchen. Fantastic hotate and I was shocked by the effort put into the miso soup and tamago. They clearly care about quality and it shows.

Great place for a casual dinner in a beautiful space. This is our favorite sushi spot in Raleigh.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time in Raleigh. They sushi is fresh, the service was great, and owner is amazing. They are currently in a temporary space off Glenwood but please go check them out if you are a sushi fan! I can't wait until they move into their new space.

I've been here for multiple times but will never come again. Ambiguous waitlist, declining food equality, rude receptionist.

Unassuming spot inside and office building, a little tough to find. Went on a Monday night and it was packed! You know a sushi place is great when they don't have soy sauce on the table and actively discourage you from asking for it. Everything we had was excellent. Definitely going back.

My husband and I dined at Sushi Mon for the first time this evening and I’m so glad we did. We’ve been O-Ku regulars since moving to Raleigh so that’s our standard, this place totally matched. We enjoyed the diverse offerings and appreciated that the menu wasn’t overwhelming large. Our server was excellent too. If the lights could be dimmed, the vibe would be perfect!
Will definitely be back!

I had an extraordinary dining experience at Sushi Mon. The sushi was not just good; it surpassed the average sushi you'd find elsewhere. The attention to detail on my plate was truly remarkable, making it a gourmet experience. The cozy atmosphere added to the overall enjoyment, and the staff's friendliness was exceptional. This place is a hidden gem with a low-key vibe and a beautiful interior. If you are a sushi lover you will not be disappointed!

Service was abysmal. Waited for 20 minutes for a server. A server was assigned to this table but somehow he 'forgot'. People who arrived after us were served way earlier. Another server had to take his place.
Food was ok.

Sushi Mon is my favorite sushi restaurant. I love the cozy and sophisticated environment. Service is great, and the food- oh gosh the food. The miso soup is a special, elevated version and always my first dish. The sushi plates and rolls are stunning and so very fresh and delicious. I find the unique flavor and texture combinations of the rolls especially delicious. I always take a moment to enjoy the presentation before taking my first bite. Great place for a comfortable, classy lunch or a cozy date.

Eric D. was a great server. The food and service were excellent. It's a small venue with only 20 seats plus the sushi bar and a few tables just outside the restaurant. The food quality is the best I've had. Eric D provided GREAT service and recommendations. This is a great date night spot/hidden jem.

The best sushi in Raleigh! We have gone here about 5-6 times and always look forward to going back. The ambiance is fantastic and the service is always great. We always get the donburi, kiss of fire, truffle tuna, and the rainbow roll. I recommend everything on that list!

Super impressed with this restaurant. Was a little hard to find because I wasn’t expecting it to be in the lobby of a condo building but once I got there A+ everything. Decor, menu, service all amazing. Prices very reasonable for proper sushi. Would definitely go back.

The best sushi in town.

It was recommended by my friend that the place was good. We ordered nigiri omakases. It took the food 40mins to arrive, the fish was not fresh enough and it tasted very mediocre. Disappointed and will not recommend to others.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of fish, thoughtful menu and eclectic design.
Will be returning for dinner very soon

You’ll never go wrong with this place. The best sushi and everything always fresh! Their Miso Black Cod and Rock Salmon is a must try if you come here. And their Miso soup is so different and really umami not like other places. It has mushrooms, cabbage and even salmon too!
