Casual Japanese eatery with an array of made-to-order, all-you-can-eat fare, from sushi to hibachi.
Great place for all you can eat sushi! Everything is very high quality. I like that you can order sashimi and nigiri as part of all you can eat. The sushi rolls are also very good and there is an option to create your own roll with your preference. Will definitely be back!

I've been coming to Orchid Japanese for about 7 years and can't say enough good things about this restaurant.
I recently had a birthday event with friends here and everyone in our party had a positive experience. We did the all you can eat sushi/hibachi lunch and each order that came out was fresh and delicious. Everything was served to us quickly and the wait staff were all very friendly and attentive of our needs. Everyone left full and satisfied regardless of dietary restrictions. Many from our group had never been to Orchid before, but now are excited to come again.
I've brought large groups of 8 or more here before and have never had any decrease in quality and/or service like how it may happen at other restaurants. For the price you pay vs. the service and food, this place is a 10/10 for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. We went on a Saturday evening- it was clean, with a nice atmosphere and had excellent service- very attentive. I had the dragon roll, tuna, yellowtail and salmon nigiri. I highly recommend all 4! Great quality sushi. I also had the salad with ginger dressing, miso soup, crab cheese wontons, coconut shrimp and spring rolls. I loved the salad. The red bean ice cream is very good- definitely choose that one. Normally my favorite is green tea but I preferred the red bean here. Overall, I felt it was money well spent. We will be back!

Hands down the absolute best sushi joint in Raleigh, sushi & hot food - all you can eat! I'm a frequent flyer here and I've never been disappointed. Best kept secret in the area. UPDATE! August 2024 - The quality of the food has dropped dramatically, I would rather pay a higher price for all you can eat and get decent quality food! Please bring back the quality food you used to serve! This was our favorite restaurant but we rarely visit now because of the food quality.

Service was nice, the lady and guy that took care of us were fast and nice. As for gratuity, I get that there is a 18% gratuity charge but it doesn't make sense that it's not already on the check. Instead the server is made to be in the awkward position of asking the customer to pick 18% or higher. I find that so odd. .
I heard good things about this place but food was okay. Seaweed salad was my favorite out of everything we ate. I didn't come in expecting the highest quality of sushi but I also didn't expect there to be so much rice, at one point it started getting funny (reference the picture).
TLDR: wouldn't go again but it was a fun experience.

Sushi was pretty good. Definitely not the best or worst but for the price this place is fantastic. We got the all you can eat and the service was very fast. My only complaint is that most of the specialty rolls are fried and I I don't like fried sushi. I would have like to see more fresh raw options on the specialty roll section.

Orchid is a sushi loverβs paradise. They offer an all-you-can-eat menu featuring a diverse array of rolls, sushi, and other delectable dishes. What sets Orchid apart is their on-demand preparation, ensuring that each dish is freshly made to perfection. The service is impeccable, adding to the overall dining experience.

The food is wonderful and always fresh and delicious. Service is super quick and always friendly. The overall appearance is maybe a little dated and seems a little on the cheap side, but don't let that fool you. The food is worth it.

1st time there. Good experience all around, I arrived 30 mins before closing. So was suggested an al a cart menu since that wouldn't be enough time to take advantage of the all you can eat buffet. (Which I didn't know they had ).
Both servicer were gracious and didn't rush me even though they were going to be closing at 2:30pm

I went in a bit late for lunch all you can eat, but they delivered such good food that it was was worth the additional price. I had 4 very good rolls, miso, fried Gonzalez, and a small order of shrimp stir fry. They also included one scoop of ice cream. Every bite was delicious.
They do charge extra on all you can eat for uneaten food.
Some people only want to see 5 stars on super pretentious frufru restarants. I give 5vstars for being excellent for what I expect. I prefer friendly restaurants w ith an attentive staff.
Just to mention one dish that is not fancy at all, but I really enyoy - it is a silly little avacodo peanut roll. If you get all you can eat & like peanuts, give it a try. Just so simple & delicious.

I've been a client of this place for a long time and I went yesterday to eat with my 12-month-old baby. I don't give him Chinese food. I just gave him some broccoli from my own food and they charged me what I gave my baby. It's incredible. I was shocked to charge him for a little broccoli. I was a regular customer and I don't come back anymore.

I recently visited Orchid Japanese Restaurant in Raleigh for their all-you-can-eat sushi lunch, and it was an outstanding experience! The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, with tasteful decor that sets the perfect mood for dining. Our waiters were incredibly attentive, respectful, and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Every dish they brought out was fresh, perfectly prepared, and simply delicious. From the sushi to the hibachi, each item exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a top-notch Japanese dining experience in Raleigh!

UPDATE: They put way too much rice in the sushi now which is incredibly sadβ¦. The quality has defiantly gone down because of it and it makes me not want to go there anymore after recommending it for yearsβ¦

This was the worst Japanese restaurant experience. The food had no flavor. You are better going to Khanki. The best part is that they bring the food out fast. Be aware to not order more than your belly can hold. They look forward to charging you for each piece of food. Yes they have cameras to make sure you not taking food to avoid paying. This is how they get higher tips. The higher the bill the more the 18% tip.

honestly some of the worst sushi I've ever eaten. the nigiri was mostly rice, barely any meat on top. the rice had no flavor at all. normally, there's at least some rice vinegar in the rice. the "specialty" roll that was supposed to have fresh tuna in it was tough and nasty. my "fresh" avocado was brown. they serve terrible quality sushi and then charge you $1 per piece of sushi you have leftover (they do advertise this on their website, so I knew this before going). on top of all of that, they take your payment at the table and give you the tablet to chose your tip. if you try to tip less than 18%, they cancel your payment and make you do it again with a better tip. I don't mind tipping, but I prefer to tip based on service, not required gratuity. but I just learned that this isn't a place I will return to.

My girlfriend is a big sushi lover, I only eat 'cooked sushi' or veggie rolls etc.
However, our friend invited us here as it's all you can eat (or a la carte) and the all you can eat is made to order, but an open buffet style.
The food is ALWAYS amazing, consistent, we've been here almost 10 times in the past 18 months.
They have more than just sushi as well, I typically order the wings, hibachi, coconut shrimp, beef & chicken teriyaki, even ice cream, etc etc.
The staff is always very attentive without being overbearing and always polite.
One of the very few places I have no complaints on the food or staff.
If I had to pick one thing it's the all you can eat dinner price is expensive, but if you go during lunch its 80% the same menu at a decent price.
Id definitely check it out.

We are new to Raleigh and decided to try this restaurant since it is close to our home. This was the worst sushi we have ever eaten. Love this place. I live in Florida and it is the resteraunt I make sure I go to every time I am in NC.
I really like the sashimi so I don't need to eat a lot of rice, if you go at lunch time I highly reccomend paying the extra amount and getting dinner for the sashimi and the speciality rolls available.
This is also the only place I have ever found that makes custom sushi rolls. I go for tuna, while tuna, and shrimp tempura! SO delicious!
The owner / manager is also really friendly and has a great memory, he recognized me even after I moved away and was just visiting.

This place used to be good, but they are very much lacking in quality now for anyone who knows the difference between good and bad sushi.
I had their all-you-can-eat sushi, and after I ordered my first plate and the restaurant began to get busy, the drop in quality was most evident.
Typically when you order nigari, you expect a thumb-sized amount of rice along with the fish, but when it comes to getting three times the amount of rice over protein, they
Are clearly trying to fatten you up on the menu items that don't cost as much.
The sashimi and fish in general weren't horrible, but it's obviously cheap, leftover cuts of older fish that have been refrigerated for too long or left out sitting long enough for the fat to melt off leaving the fish to be extremely flaccid, soft and mussy.
To make matters even worse, they now REQUIRE you to tip at least 18% for the access sushi regardless of if the food was good or if you had horrible service.
I used to be a long-time customer, but trust me I will not be returning here again.
Tip for the restaurant, "try doing better!"

The quality of the food at this restaurant is decent during busy times, but it is not very fresh at other times. I am giving it one star because they enforce an 18% service charge without informing customers verbally. We have been visiting this restaurant since 2016, and have never been notified of this charge, even though we have always tipped on top of it. In retrospect, this seems like a tactic to steal from customers.
During today's meal, my husband and I still tipped 18%. However, one of our guests noticed and pointed out the issue, only to be threatened by the server and the owner, who said he could tip according to his reference, but they would no longer serve him. With such treatment, no one would be willing to leave a tip. When my friend decided to cancel the tip, the server refused to return his credit card. I regret that my guest had such an unpleasant dining experience. I also regret recommending this restaurant to many friends new to Raleigh, not realizing their dishonest practices. Moving forward, I will advise my friends to avoid dining at such an untrustworthy establishment.

I wouldn't have even cared if they charged me for it, but to refuse me of a fork like iβm some person off the street is crazy! I will not be spending a DIME there anymore. All over a damn fork. Over 10 years had passed since my last visit, so I was hoping the restaurant had changed for the better. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
I got their all-you-can-eat sushi deal during a weekday lunch, priced at $21 per person. My friend and I found the sushi selection to be disappointingly limited. The menu offered nigiri or basic classic rolls, both disproportionately heavy on rice. It felt like I was consuming a bowl of rice with a hint of fish with every bite. Moreover, any desire for specialty rolls (albeit the 2 deep fried rolls on the lunch menu) was met with an additional $10 charge, which was exclusive to the dinner menu.
Adding to the disappointment, I discovered that the minimum acceptable tip was set at 18%. Attempting to tip 15% due to the lunch hour service, I was informed by the waiter that 18% was the lowest acceptable gratuity. This experience soured our meal since we were only a party of 2 people.
I have no intention of returning.

I like to support small businesses, so when I saw one offering AYCE sushi I jumped to visit. However, I am dissapointed in the food. The fish were not cut correctly in many pieces, with grey and white parts of salmon skin left on and varying sizes. In my custom roll of salmon, avocado, and shrimp tempura, shown in the image, one piece had no salmon and one piece had no shrimp!!!!! Hard to believe they are part of the same sushi roll...The salmon nigiri was good, the gyoza and katsu were fine as well. However, highly dissapointed in the sushi quality, and for $20.95 lunchtime price... it was slow so I cannot make excuses for the quality and execution... The restaurant also had a weird smell and felt musty, likely due to the carpeted floors. Save your money and go to Mr. Tokyo...

We had been loyal customers of Orchid for years. Their AYCE menu has changed slightly over the years (mainly fewer sashimi options), but their latest menu caused us to not return. Their specialty rolls have always been somewhat limited for anyone not wanting fried, spicy, or options with cream cheese. However, the latest menu removed the Wasabi roll, which, despite its name, was one of two rolls that wasnβt fried/spicy/with cream cheese (the other is the rainbow roll). It was the only roll that was removed. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back, despite sometimes weekly visits in the past.

This is a quantity over quality place. Considering the price of around $35 per person and a mandatory 18%+ tip, I would really expect way higher quality food and better service. The servers always seem annoyed to be working even though they get huge tips on every table. Highly recommend going on a weekday as service is faster. We went on a Saturday night once and it took 2 hours to get 3 rounds of food. Left hungry as we didn't have the luxury to wait 40 minutes for another round. During the weekday, they are much faster. The rolls are somewhat okay (3/5) tons of rice. The nigiri and sashimi are terribly small and extremely thin. The sashimi is about an 8th of a size you would get anywhere else. Nigiri are so thin that you can see the rice through the fish (1/5). Refer to photos.
For AYCE Sushi in Raleigh, there are way better places for almost half the price. Even some in the immediate area. That being said, this is a decent place if you don't mind a lower quality food and are not looking for anything but western rolls.

I went to Orchid last night, got terrible food poisoning, I do not recommend, another thing that got me was the service wasnβt great and they require an 18% tip. The lady grabbed the card reader out of my hands and I couldnβt tip to what I thought it was worth, it was ridiculous, the lady was very rude, service was decent at best and the food was absolutely horrible leaving me sick and regretting spending $80 some dollars for two people to eat a terrible dinner. 1st thing 1st, customers should not foot the bill for restaurant servers' wages!
When checking out, the old female server stood uncomfortably close beside me, like "skin to skin". This violated my personal space, I could call an offensive foul. Also, She was staring at me as I selected the tip aamount, this really annoyed me.
Next, I chose to reduce some cents, not even exceeding one dollar, rounding it off to an integer of 78 dollars. However, she refused, saying the minimum couldn't be less than 18%. I suggested just deducting those few cents to make it a whole number, but she still declined, citing it as a rule of the restaurant.
Well, just for a few cents, they lost two returning customers and received a one-star review. Well done.

Great customer service from all staff. Nam was our waiter and answered our questions about the food. He kept our drinks full. The food was delicious π

Enjoyed a nice dinner with friends. We were sat right away even though they seemed busy. The service was great! They had very clear instructions on how to order written at the table. The only negative comment our group had all night was the coconut shrimp was not what anyone expected. It had a white creamy sauce on top.

Met with some friends here and the food/ service were fine, that was till the bill came and I felt blindsided and robbed. My entire group was unaware that there were "rules" for eating as a group here. I was completely unaware that I had to read "rules" in order to protect myself from being pushed into paying an unreasonable bill. I sat down when I arrived I was never greeted with " have you read our policy on eating as a group?" Nothing! I was given a separate ordering sheet and made to believe that I was separate from everyone else's ordering throughout dinner. But when the bill arrived I was given a $67 bill for myself and my partner. I was told that I had to pay for the buffet when I only ordered a few things simply because others in my group had ordered the buffet, which I was not a part of. I expressed that I was unaware of this policy but management disregarded my concern and proceeded to make me pay. At this point I felt pressured and hopeless to resolve the confusion. The server placed the card reader on the table as she already had my card in hand. The tip screen gave me the option to skip a tip.... So I did because I felt cheated and overcharged during this encounter. The server reversed this and raised her voice telling me I had to pay my 18% tip. If it's required....don't give me the option to say no. Already have the gratuity added to the original bill like every other place that requires this......This place treated me like I should completely understand how their restaurant operates. I feel as if the next time I go to a restaurant before I order I need to ask the waiter. " What's the rules first?" Will never eat here again due to the rude and unreasonable staff.

Food is abundant and delicious. Service is efficient and attentive. They had no difficulty keeping out table of eight served and satisfied. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Orchid and look forward to visiting again.

The sashimi was very good for all you can eat

This place is pretty decent however the plates are extremely small. Another catch is you canβt order more food until the food youβve ordered has been brought out. This certainly slows you down.
They also have strict rules around left overs and will nickel and dime you for the food you did not finish.

I visited this restaurant last night with my sister and friends. Based off the service and food we received, the bill was not worth $130 plus the 18% mandatory tip. Our sushi was warm and the ice cream was hard and tasted freezer burnt. There is nothing to justify the amount paid and quality received.

First of all, the βruleβ did not make sense. Considering the economy is so bad, but the fact that you are REQUIRED to tip minimum 18% when the service isnβt even that much of a worthβand so is the quality of food. In my opinion, food COULD be better. Tasted like the quality I can get from a grocery market.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE A SHELLFISH ALLERGY
My partner had a mild allergic reaction after reiterating several times that they had a shellfish allergy, after asking to have our rolls remade for my partners allergies they simply put the same rolls on two separate plates which led to the allergic reaction. would be in the hospital right now. When asked if they had an EpiPen we were informed that they did not have one.
With both awful service and generally subpar food the only saving grace is how quick the food came out which is a boon to those who want to be in with an empty stomach and out with a pumped stomach in record time.

I visited this restaurant over a year ago and back then it was pretty good. I'm afraid the quality of the food has gone down since then. The sushi rolls had barely any meat and lots of rice, comparable to supermarket sushi.... This is the only place when I have not enjoyed a spicy tuna roll.
The sashimi was very watery, frozen most likely, and some of the pieces had a really fishy flavor.
The shrimp tempura and the fried fish were very good. The kitchen food was very good.
The sushi though, was just bad.

This place just wasnβt it. If you are just wanting sushi then this may be the place for you. I think $30 per person is ridiculous for what it was. Our food was super plain and we basically forced ourselves to eat all of it so we wouldnβt be charged. I didnβt like that I had to pay for my one year old who quite literally ate 2 bites of white rice and a few bites of our ice cream. I also didnβt appreciate having the waiter standing on top of me when paying. I felt pressured to leave a certain tip.

Delicious sushi, and it keeps coming until you can eat no more!
Soft music, calm atmosphere, attentive and kind service. Their system for alerting the staff that you want more food is simple and ingenious. I also love how you can select ingredients for a custom roll.

The sushi wasn't that good. Even though it's all you can eat, I really didn't want to do that after trying the different rolls my table ordered. Pretty low quality food compared to most sushi places in the area

I've eaten a lot of sushi over the years, and I think this might be my favorite sushi restaurant of all time. Unfortunately I no longer live in the area so it's not practical for me to go here very often anymore, but at least I can be comforted by my memories π

IF YOU WANT FOOD POISONING COME HERE! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. I literally was on my second roll of sushi and I tasted some disgusting slimy cucumber tasted so freaking rotten. I canβt. I literally threw up everywhere and in the bathroom. I talked to the owner and told him respectfully the cucumber was so dirty tasting and the tempura tasted stale. All he did was become defensive saying βI have 150 guests in here almost every day, and the food is freshβ. Weβll sir, I just threw up everywhere and even the other customers in front of me were saying how fishy the sushi tasted. Never EVER again. Dine here at your own risk.

It was overall an okay experience. Instead of regular all you can eat sushi places, I wanted to come here, and overall, I can say it was average. The food was just okay, but the quick service and friendly atmosphere definitely helped the rating. The price certainly does not reflect the quality of food, as you can go to other locations like this for a cheaper price and recieve better food. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here unless your main interest is spending time with your friends when you go, and not eating.
