Words can not describe this place. It's just absolutely terrific and feels like you're entering heaven for ur taste buds! 🤣 I come here for special occasions to enjoy myself with my family, and it always promises to fill you, give lots of food, and get a show all at once.

The hibachi chefs here are all super nice and funny, constantly making people laugh or smile while doing their cooking entertainment. The waitresses are fast to get everything needed and cleaned up, and they're super sweet and understanding!

They're always clean and make sure of it before opening up for the day, leaving no crumbs or anything on the floors. They even take requests and fulfill them if not actually on the menu, such as plain white rice!

The sauces they give for option are so good! So creamy, gives off a good tangy kick, and just hits the right spot with the food being paired together with it. I love the two classic favorites of ginger and yum yum sauce.

The prices are average and they give you good amounts for what you pay, making it fair. They cook all the food to perfection, which melts in ur mouth and is so hot coming off of the flat grill. They always keep the flat grill clean, too constantly washing it off and scrapping it after the entertainment is all done for the night.

Everything they use here is a fresh product not frozen and the same for the sushi next door to the hibachi, which also even takes on special requests.

The fish tank in the little section over onto your right before going into the sushi area has a cute little corner setup with a beautiful fish tank full of beautiful and all different types of fish. They constantly keep this fish tank around unless being cleaned at the time.

Let me also say how this is the only hibachi place that serves noodles! They also cook them perfectly too just like everything else. Mouth watering how good this food is and especially such a nice special treat to spoil yourself with.

I will always come here if it's with family or not for a special occasion. I'm craving hibachi and feel like it! Forever love Asahi and hope they stay around for the rest of my life and my daughters! 🤣

It's always a joy to come to Asahi when I'm in town visiting my in-laws! This was my second time here, and the quality was just as good if not better than my first visit 3 years ago! You definitely get your money's worth! Thank you for serving the area for over 30 years! The Hibachi chef was great, the experience and atmosphere was as great as usual!

Didn't expect having Japanese owner/sushi chef restaurant in this area. Steve, owner/chef took care of me with his choice of different dishes and I was satisfied, and actually ate too much... He explained to me that they gave 2 different kitchens, one for hibachi grill and one for sushi bar area.
Japanese flavor was there and I will go back to try more items.

Oldie- but goodie! a staple here in Greensboro, we love to visit for birthdays and on valentine's day they usually have lobster on special <3 this is our favorite hibachi restaurant to visit for the cook in front of you experience, and we love that they do both rice AND noodles

If I could give lower, I would! I've come to this restaurant for years. I’ve always known that it’s older and not well kept, but continued to come against my better judgment. When I walked in, it instantly smelled of cigarette smoke. The owner was smoking INSIDE in the corner. We still proceeded to sit down. My soup came and once I started eating, a cockroach crawled on top of the table. I jumped and more came out and some already dead on the floor. The workers weren’t surprised which says enough for me.

Best nigiri in greensboro! The sushi is so fresh and tasty - once you enter, it looks like there is just hibachi (tends to be overcrowded). You just walk a few steps to the sushi bar and sit yourself! (hidden gem compared to the hibachi grill). My favorite japanese place in Greensboro!

I walked in on a weekday evening. Not busy. No customers were in the waiting area or at the host stand. I was completely ignored by the hostess (elderly woman who is always there). I greeted her. She didn't even make eye contact with me and then the phone rang and she picked it up on the first ring and started going over reservations with the person the phone. While I was waiting patiently for her to get off the phone I couldn't help but notice the filth. The walls, light switches, thermostat, etc were disgusting. Like they've never once been wiped down.

When she hung up she looked around and then at me and pointed to a table in the corner and said "can you go wait over there?". I was confused as she hadn't even asked me how many were in my party or anything. I explained that there were four of us and asked what the wait would be. She rolled her eyes at me and said 20 minutes. I said, thank you and started walking towards the door so I could tell my husband how long the wait would be (he was outside with our kids), that is when she yelled, "BYE!!!" at me. I was dumbfounded. Never been treated that way in my life, especially for doing absolutely nothing wrong. So rude. I'll never be back here. I hate I had this horrible experience bc we really enjoyed dining here.

Pretty good sushi, but the stand out was our appetizers - the udon, which tasted like fresh noodles with their chewy texture, and the asparagus tempura. I thought the white mushrooms in the tempura was a bit disappointing since it was pretty bland and uninteresting in terms of texture. Enoki for texture or shiitake for flavor would have been better. We also got some sweet tofu appetizer that used tofu which was not as soft as I'd like (typically they're sundubu level soft), not really crispy on the outside, and a tad too sweet/salty.

We got the omakase, which was pretty reasonably priced at $34, but included some cuts that were too stringy for my liking. The sushi sampler was OK, and the sushi we got was decent. I would not recommend the pickled plum and cucumber - it can be done well, but the salty plum was too overpowering for the amount of miso and rice.

The frozen yogurt finisher was nice in my opinion - it literally tastes like yogurt that was frozen rather than typical froyo. I liked the matcha flavored one (also tried blueberry and strawberry).

My major gripe is that they didn't introduce the sushi or sashimi. I'm not familiar enough to know every type that appeared, so it was disappointing not to be able to name the ones I liked and didn't like. Part of that might be on me for not asking. Otherwise, pretty attentive staff.

Really by far better than any hibachi grill I've had in nc, they respect allergies and have plenty of availability unlike some nearby hibachi grills such as fire and sticks and arigatos this place actually will cook and offers noodles as a side unlike other restaurants like it

Hi! Me and my mom went here to eat some sushi. The lady at the front seated us in the hibachi section with other people, and didn’t ask us if we were ordering sushi or hibachi (she assumed hibachi because we are black). After requesting to sit alone, we were met with indignation and then moved to another table (still in the hibachi section of the restaurant.) When she realized we were there to order sushi she then realized her mistake and walked us over to the sushi section of the restaurant and cleared us a table. All in all the food was great and the sushi was well made. But we didn’t feel very welcome eating there despite remaining polite and cordial. I’m not sure what we did besides order a bunch of yummy food and request a seating change. We won’t be coming back ❤️

Top Prices/Okay Experience.
Called and was told that reservations were required for Saturday night. Made 7:30 pm reservations for 4 (including 2 children). Chef started cooking our food at 9:00pm, we were finally eating 2 hours later. Glasses and dishes from soup/salad remained on the table way too long and refills were scarce. This was our first visit to the restaurant and it was not the best impression. Owner went table to table apologizing that one chef was out and another was sick. Owner should not be inconsiderate of the patrons time because they don’t want to lose out on money.

Staff was nice and attentive .....the hibachi chef we had was very cool...social....he even did a smoking choi choo train of fire...instead of the traditional volcano. Food was great! I had filet...chicken..and shrimp.....it comes with noodles and fried rice and veggies....i was super full and had leftovers for work the next day. Sorry no pics....but i personally think its better than Arigatos🤯 ....which i love....but hey...i said what i said!😁

The hostess was not very polite, bordering on straight-up rude to several people, not just our party. It took forever to order our drinks, and them even longer to receive them, refills were even harder for anyone not drinking sweet tea. Our chef was very nice but also very slow and the food was not distributed very evenly or cooked quite long enough. The absolute best parts of the meal were the shrimp and mushrooms. We eat at a lot of different Japanese steakhouses and were just not impressed with this one. One order of shrimp comes with 5 shrimp and costs $12. Even the shrimp meal only came with 5, and that is just not enough, especially for the price. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was just okay. Honestly, nothing too horrible, just not really good either, and when paying that much for food, I expect good food. We paid way more than usual for Japanese steakhouse food, and despite eating everything except for a little bit of rice, I left still feeling hungry.

We used to love it here and supported it regularly for years. Last night my steak was served well done. I ordered medium rare. It took almost an hour to start eating, waiting for a cook. We were so hungry by the time we got our food. My water stayed empty almost the entire meal without getting needed refills. $100 for 2 people.... should have been better. I know better than to complain as the owner here doesn't respond well to complaints. We will find a new place for Japanese. It was my husband's birthday and he wanted to go.

"The lady who seated us was very rude and yelled at us. She also called a bigger guy a big fat guy. Their oil catcher is held up by duct tape, which is not safe, and there are holes in the wall. The smell isn't the best, and it took a while for them to get our drinks. Overall, I didn't feel welcome at all and won't be coming back."

Very sad. Gone down hill. Dirty. Extreme BAD service. Ordered sushi they forgot to place order & closed the sushi bar. Had to get up 3 times to find our waiter for water refills & removing dirty plates. Began vacuuming while we were finishing our meal! Had to ask them to please stop. Seated at 7:05 pm & finished at 8:50. The entire staff seemed to busy to care or had a chip on their shoulders. Will not go back!!

Was so glad that this place is the authentic Japanese food I wanted to find. The owners are Japanese and I had yakitori, gyoza, a few sushi choices, and veggie tempura. I used to live in Greensboro and did not know this place even existed. Met here for a company dinner and this hidden little gem did not disappoint! Lots of Hibachi tables where they cook in front of you and then a separate room with a sushi bar. It's my favorite Hibachi place now in the Triad area. Super friendly staff and servers, and so much food you can eat off of it for days when you do the hibachi. We went on a Thursday night for dinner and it quickly filled up, so make reservations if you can to guarantee a table, especially on weekends.

A friend and I ate here a week ago and we were both blown away with the restaurant, the server, the food and of course, the cook. The restaurant from back to front and in between was extremely clean as was the rest room. The prices were very reasonable. Delicious food, service for beverages was spotty at best. We had to ask and re-ask for water and tea refills. We asked 4 different people for our beer and cocktails, they finally arrived while the chef was preparing our meals.

Food is always good and sushi even better. The place has nice staff and great chefs who will give you a little show. We go evy year for a birthday celebration 🎂 and are rarely disappointed. I would give 5 stars but the place could use a good clean and face-lift.

We don't know anything about sushi so we tried something new. It was the end of the night. They weren't very helpful about helping us figure out the menu. I'm not a fan but I also didn't know what I was doing. Cool atmosphere tho

The food here is fantastic. We've eaten here a few times and always come away satisfied and with plenty leftover for lunches. The only real detraction is the atmosphere. It's a bit outdated. Also can't comment on their sushi bar as we haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it's as good as the hibachi.

Didn't expect having Japanese owner/sushi chef restaurant in this area. Steve, owner/chef took care of me with his choice of different dishes and I was satisfied, and actually ate too much... He explained to me that they gave 2 different kitchens, one for hibachi grill and one for sushi bar area.
Japanese flavor was there and I will go back to try more items.

Food and chef were fantastic as usual. We had troubles getting water refills and the restaurant was over hot (not from the table top grill). They did bring out a fan and that took care of the temperature concerns. All in all great food and date night.

This is our second time coming to Ashai! We really enjoy the food. Service has been steady and met our needs both trips that we have gone. We feel that the portion size of food is really good! We love the noodles and the rice, so going and having both cooked to perfection is a bonus! The broth soup with crispy fried onion is always really great way to start the meal! The chefs have been both engaging and made sure food was throughly cooked (that's a bonus ) when cooking on a flat top! We will be back! There was a brief conversation with chef and other customers about business hours...whether they close at 9 and 10 was discussed. Yum Yum sauce is good but at times seem like maybe been stretched by using water. And also to-go sauces (yum you or ginger) are with a charge! I would probably say they need to update hours on google! If you in the Greensboro, NC area please check them out!

We had ordered and even eaten our soup and salad when we noticed something crawling down the wall. My friend walked over to check it out with a napkin and came back with a roach! She took it to the staff and they said they had a problem before but not now. She then said “ then why is there a roach in my napkin?We can’t stay here” they comped our drink so fast so we would leave.

Tables were smaller. They didn't accommodate party of 10 very well. We waited an hour for the chef to arrive. Not the most lively experience. The food was good. I ordered shrimp and steak. The shrimp was served with the appetizer before anything else was plated. Shrimp cools fast, so I ate it with no rice, noodles, or veggies. He put the chicken on last, which of course takes the longest to cook. I was finished by the time my wife's chicken was served.

Toro and Chilean Sea Bass is nonetheless amazing. No other places around can compare to the quality and authenticity of this place. No sushi restaurant carries some of the options you can get here. A must check out.

If you are in the mood for Hibachi style food, this restaurant is for you. Anytime I have called and made reservations they are always able to take my party in a timely fashion. My barber is actually the one who introduced us to this restaurant. With our first experience we fell in love with this place. We absolutely love Miss Mickey. She is very sassy and a Class Act! But she gets the job done! Make sure you call ahead and experience this Greensboro gem!!

Hands down.. the best Sushi in Greensboro. Freshest, most authentic and well crafted Sushi/Sashimi. So delicious.

Also their other food is just as good. Hibachi noodles are to DIE for. I miss it and want to order it just writing this review..

In the past 20yrs this is the first time I was ever disappointed here. It was the beginning of a Friday night and we were some of the first people seated with a reservation. The cook was throwing rice all over the place wasn't into his cooking and even got grease on my shirt and others. He was very messy and seemed to be extremely stressed out. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because I don't know what he could be going through but it was very rushed. And for the price I paid I do expect at least 4 star quality service.

This restaurant has the best flavors I've ever tasted at a habachi grill in NC. Habachi is one of my favorite cuisines and our go-to date night. This is also a locally owned and operated restaurant which I greatly appreciate! The chefs are all well seasoned it seems but our chef last night, Eric, gave us more than dinner and the usual show. He was very engaging and fun to talk to. The restaurant clearly has been here for decades for a reason. I really can't get over how delicious the flavors were! My husband and I will definitely be back for more date nights. Thank you for such an enjoyable dinner!

This place was our family go-to spot but no more! So much of dining and even more with Japanese dining is about presentation and our sashimi boat did not look so. Fish chunks seemed thrown together and the assortment of fish was really lacking; lots of cheaper white fish stacked on top of each other. We also ordered a sushi platter and that was even worse! The rice in our rolls was so sticky and wet that it was inedible. It had the texture and consistency of sticky rice cake. We told our server about the rice noting that this was not normal to our previous experiences and the server came back to insult us by saying that the chef was using a new kind of rice - ha! Sorry, if you can't be honest and provide good service and if the sushi rolls are worse than a 7-11 or a convenience store, I am not coming back no more!

*I read the previous reviews here and got to know this restaurant is 30+ years in the running. I was a hyped and couldn't wait to eat here as I parked 15 minutes early before opening.

My bill just for myself 😅:
$99 after taxes and gradituity🤑😉.

The welcome:
I wasn't greeted at all, but an elderly lady who's probably either the full-time Hostess or just a grouchy old-timer who looks tired of doing her job and is still pondering why she isn't retired yet. Didn't even say welcome or a smile to see eager customers coming in to enjoy their soon to be awesome dinner and experience. As a restaurant with traditional imported fish (Especially... a Japanese restaurant). I expect at least a traditional welcome or some sort of greeting at most. If she's one of the managers or owners. You should at least know the basic principles of running a restaurant greetings. No excuses!

The best thing she did was lead ask me if I wanted Hibachi or sushi? I answered that I want both (with a smile 😁😃) was hoping she would at least finally greet me with a smile back but naaah. Lets keep movig on. She lead me to my table with other people already seated who are regulars to this restaurant and friendly to talk to as we enjoyed our meal.

Staff: a young man with long hair served my table and did a good job. Was attentive, and refilled my drinks and even asked if I needed more beers or refills. Much thanks dude! 😊 done a good job!

The chef was alright. Diligent at work and cooking food for the table. For some reason the food was cook kinda slow or maybe he's new? By the time I ate my sashimi and starters. I'm not able to really to try much of my entree cause the food was cook so slow. Other than that the chef made sure the food was cooked correctly.

Food review and pricing:
I'll warn you. The food quality and pricing here are similar to other hibachi and sushi chain's like Kobe and Hokkaido. Except this restaurant has more sushi items than these chains. That's what makes this restaurant stands out as their sushi menu needs to be requested to be ordered. The imported sashimi and sushi are around $15 low to as high as $250+.

Sushi:
I ended up getting the 12 piece sashimi for myself for $32 and it came out perfect. Wasn't really a big fan of the mackerel. I probably would sub them for other sashimi slices next time.
The best thing about this is that I thought the chef made an error as I got two plates of a dozen pieces and got more than I ordered. The server told me that the order is correct. The sashimi slices are bigger than what they look and it needed two plates to complete my order! I really appreciate the quality and quantity for the pricing! Couldn't be anymore happy! 😁😁😁

The abalone: $15
To be honest.... I shouldn't have ordered this.... it's raw slices from one... one abalone... on its shell. what the heck did I expect? A let down. It tasted alright and it wasn't much to eat on the small plate. Presentation was average but it didn't give the wow factor at all. Perhaps it's just me? Also optional was getting the conch sashimi for $18. I saw that it only comes with four slices. I would like to mention that they pointed out on the menu is why I didn't order it.

The menu didn't specify how many slices of abalone I would be served and boy I was disappointed. I realized later that abalone is just expensive out on the market right now and not really worth it if you're looking for quantity over quality, but this was a definite quality sashimi over quantity. Avoid ordering plates like this if you don't want to rack up a large bill without a purpose!
I should've asked the server more questions about the sashimi so I hope you guys would take note of it.

Alcohol: yup served here. Here in a cold glass!

Hibachi: $30+ options
It was a lot of food so I took my steak and chicken home with rice, noodles, mushrooms, and vegetables. It's debatable if all of this is worth $40? Up to you. It also comes with a soup and salad as starters. Thanks for reading!

The waitress was really rude, I would recommend this restaurant to take care of this issue if they still want to have return customers. When we waited for more than 30min for the Sushi and asked this waitress to check on our order, all she said is they do not premade anything in advance and are busy. We also ended up eating a plastic from the tuna negi nigiri, which she only took off from our bill and had NO apologies at all. Definitely my last time going back there.

Pretty alright food, decent experience with watching the food be cooked in front of my party and all, but it's not quite worth the price. For an average of an extra $1-$6 more per plate you can have a much more exquisite dinner at a nearby hibachi place like Kabuto, where you can literally taste the difference that higher quality ingredients provide and the ambiance is both more elegant and entertaining. I would not recommend bringing business parties here, but for casual non-hibachi affairs this place is definitely OK.

Beware if you are ordering from their menu online! We ordered sushi for pickup based on the menu on their website. When my husband went to pick it up, it was well over $100. All the prices had increased by $3 or $4 for each roll. They refused to give my husband a discount or fix the prices, saying they had already told the company that does their website that it needs updated. If they knew it was outdated, we should have been informed of that when we called and placed our order! My husband said she was very rude. This was our first time and last time ordering from Asahi.

We chose this place based on their menu online that featured a variety of Sushi options. However upon sitting down, we found that it was only a Hibachi Grill with no such options available... A bit disenfranchised but the food was all right. Really kind of felt cheated though.
