Asian Raw Bar
This place is overrated and overrated priced. I arrived at 825pm. They close at 9p. I ordered wine. A glass was $16 next option was $26. I thought it was half a bottle....nope....a 10oz pour. Not knowing the menu and portion size, I ordered spicy seared scallop. No spice and not a sear in site....raw. The scallop was flavorless. At least it wasn't fishy.see the picture for yourself. At 835 I order a spicy tuna thinking I will see if I am full. Nope, the server says last call. I reminded him they close at 9 and pointed to the crew showing they were closing up shop. I ordered a California roll. As I thought the portions were different and I ordered too much. The spicy tuna, not spicy. Not much flavor either. The California roll was really good because the avocado was so fresh. I normally don't order California roll but was forced to order so I picked something I could trust because I was pressured to choose. The atmosphere was not impressive. Most seating was around the sushi bar. The best part was how freaking cold it was in there. They had the door to the patio open and cold air was screaming in there. I never took off my puffy coat. At 849, the waiter turns all the lights off in the sake and wine cooler. It was my clue to get the heck out. Nothing like a $50 meal to be rushed out the door. Everybody cheerfully wished me a good night when I left at 849 because I was the last customer standing between them and leaving. I worked late tonight abd was hoping for a relaxed meal....nope. Stay away.

Incredible experience. Terrell the sommelier expertly recommended a nice refreshing sipper, Edwin our sushi chef displayed his skills deliciously and our sweet waiter brought Asian candy at the end of our meal. The miso black cod was cooked perfectly and our truffle crab was sublime. Tempura fired soft shell with tuna and truffle! Everything is fresh, high quality and fantastically prepared. Subtle flavors and beautiful presentation. It reminded us of several small sushi restaurants in Japan. We will definitely be back and can’t wait to try their sister place-Omikase. Grab a seat at the sushi bar so you can see the chefs at their craft! Best sushi in town BY FAR!

My mom and I enjoyed a great dinner here! I am very picky about my sushi and only like very fresh, high quality food- this was it! Very authentic and delicious. I wish there were a few more rolls to choose from, especially for someone like my mom that doesn’t typically go for more traditional rolls. Don’t come here unless you’re ready to eat real good authentic sushi!! Service was just okay, our waiter was kind but not very attentive or overly nice. Messed up my gluten allergy a couple of times that caused a lot of issues. We got our food in 11 minutes, but had to wait another 20 after that because of the mistake the waiter made. I understand allergies can be annoying but I made myself very clear. Vibe was super nice and chill, we LOVED the outdoor patio. Overall amazing experience! Def coming back

UPDATE - STILL THE BEST SUSHI IN Charlotte! I've been reading some of the newest reviews, complaining about prices... Best thing is, they all rave about the quality of the fish, then say it's too expensive. Well... that's what good quality fish costs. Don't give a 2 star review, when you love the food. Yeesh. Smh
When you love sushi and are always on the look out for a good place, you tend to eat at a plethora of Asian restaurants. We have eaten sushi from Florida to New York and I have to say, unless you're spending $500 plus on a dinner for 2, you won't find better fish ANYWHERE! The fish quality at Prime Fish is incredible! They aren't cheap and they aren't serving ridiculously small over priced meals. You'll spend a little more here but I guarantee, it's worth it! We haven't found another place with this level of quality. They may not be as amazing as Jiro Ono but damn close for a fraction of the cost!
It's so good I haven't gotten to take photos before we dig in!

Best sushi in Charlotte! This is our favorite spot to eat and the quality has always been consistent. We discovered this place after an amazing trip to Japan so although you can find cheaper rolls in Charlotte, the quality of Prime Fish is just next level. The decor and atmosphere is fine enough but we come here strictly for the food, drinks, and service.

This sushi bar serves the best fish I’ve had in the United States—period. The quality is incredible, and it’s directly comparable to some of the top sushi bars in Sapporo, Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Every piece feels like it was flown straight in from Japan, with flavors so authentic it’s like being back there.
The attention to detail is unreal. Every cut of fish is handled with care, and the rice is just right—it’s that perfect balance you expect at high-end sushi spots.
If you’re serious about sushi, you need to try this place. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that will spoil you for anywhere else. Absolutely can’t wait to come back here next time I visit Charlotte.

I briefly visited Prime Fish and was disturbed by the unethical and impolite manner Tia and Kendra conduct management. To know that those two ladies of that caliber are in a position to accommodate guest and assist in attempting to run a “successful” restaurant while being bullies and belittling employees is deplorable and disgusting. It goes to show that some people solely show up for a pay check and to maintain a lifestyle while not actually caring for the people that assist in making sure the restaurant runs successfully. As a result, I felt the atrocious management of Tia and Kendra diminished my trust in the company. I hope the company considers further training for managers to ensure ethical standards are consistently upheld. Thank you for taking the time to review my concerns. I hope this feedback is helpful improving future customer service.
Warmest Regards.

Some of the best sushi in Charlotte. It's fresh and tastes great. Though, the establishment is intimate in size, we usually don't have to wait for a seat. Hendra, our waiter, was very personable and gave great recommendations on saki and rolls. Prime Fish Sushi will always be our go to place for sushi.

Got to the restaurant at 1:47, well before the 2:00 close. Staff noted they did not serve after 1:45 (really - 2 minutes). On top of it all, staff was curt and unhelpful. Very sad approach to business. If you close at 1:45, note that you stop serving at 1:45.

Sushi is decent, it is overpriced as others say. I come here out of convenience only. The look every single staff member gives me when I walk in is really disgusting. I don't know if it's prejudices or the caste system beliefs but they really need to work on their service skills. I get an eerie feeling every time. I am working on finding a more convenient sushi spot with good energy.

Eaten at this place a couple of times, dine in and take out. The sushi is very good but the price for the amount of sushi you get is laughable. It’s definitely not worth it…and beware if you call in and order for pick up, there is a 10% up charge and if you want spicy mayo or extra ginger, there is also an up charge. I’d rather drive to South Park and pay the same price for the same quality and more generous servings…without an up charge for condiments.

In my opinion, the BEST sushi restaurant. Everyone has their own preference on quality, fanciness, elegance, etc. But personally, I thought this was fanciest sushi I have ever eaten in my entire life. The sushi literally look like ART, a masterpiece. Similar to those displays and visual appearances of a 5 star restaurant dish. The show "H... Kitchen."
My visit was on Sunday August 4th, 2024. And the employees here were literally perfect! Sushi chefs Edwin and Andih, as well as the waitress Lana. Really good, nice, friendly, and especially respectful customer service. They went way above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. I noticed the sushi chefs work extremely hard here, with great detail, and they are consistent and slightly fast. It also felt like they were alert and attentive to their customers.
You may agree or disagree but I see this place as pure quality and class. Will definitely return someday in the future. Highly recommended! Especially for special events or something to celebrate.

Wanted to love it …. But we just didn’t. We have heard SO, SO many great things about this place, and we finally made it there.
We went on a Wednesday night and sat at the bar. There were only 3 other people dining in. The service as great, but the food was very average. We had edamame and crispy tuna for apps. The crispy tuna was served on a hashbrown I think - it was unlike any crispy tuna I’ve had before and it was very bland.
For our meal we ordered a nigiri plate and 3 rolls. My husband said the nigiri plate was ok. I liked 1/3 rolls and even the 1 liked most lacked flavor.
The staff were so kind and friendly, so I wanted to love this place but just didn’t. We both had waters and our bill with tip was $160. We thought this was really expensive for what we had. Sadly, we won’t return.

This was very good. While there is not much for seating so I could get a little bit of a wait. It was very good. I would say perhaps one of the best I ever had. We had 8 at the table everyone said the same thing. Food was great not one thing was even ok. It was all great. Only thing was it was $18 for most rolls and $15-18 for the liquor. With options as much as 200-300 for liquor so if your into that they apparently have very high in things.

Never! Never visit this establishment! They have the most tasteless and cheapest food, served in ugly plastic plates. This is the worst place, with very cheap food. These are the worst rolls I've ever tried, there's not even rice on the rolls, they save on everything. We ordered Tuna with caviar, but there was no caviar. We called the manager and told them that everything was very tasteless and looked like the cheapest Japanese eatery. The manager responded by saying they would call the police.

Absolutely the best sushi I’ve ever had. I’ve had many sushi and honestly this place is not only the best sushi but the best workers too! Edwin and his team should be proud of themselves! My fiancée and I love this place!

Excellent fresh fish and that is all.
If you want anything other than straight Sashimi you may find yourself a little irritated with the result. If ordering a drink, stick with beer or whole bottled items. Service is questionable. You aren't able to order at the bar either... everything goes through a server... defeats the point and takes away from the experience.
But if fresh fish is your only concern... you won't go wrong here. In and out!
Also note: I don't recommend Salmon here... it is farmed. If you're ok with that then disregard.

No one did anything particularly wrong. It was really just the overall cost. Service was fine, food was good not great. For a $176 meal I was just hoping for a bit more than decent sushi and paper plates. I’d

I recently moved to the area and was so excited to find PrimeFish! The sushi quality is excellent, the staff are friendly and it has consistently been a great experience. It is a small space but I've never had trouble being seated. Last time we were there (~2 weeks ago), Silva took great care of us.
The truffle edamame is awesome and I loved the no-name roll. I can't wait to go back and try more.

People saying this is the “best sushi in Charlotte” need to venture out more. The atmosphere was what made us hesitate to even sit down. The “outdoor” patio section had an unpleasant fishy odor the moment we walked in the door. The sushi bar and very limited table space made for an extremely claustrophobic vibe. The sushi was good, but definitely not worth the exorbitant costs they charge. The slices were very thin. We knew almost immediately after sitting down that we would likely not return.

If you’re good with astro turf, paper plates and being your own cashier, then go for it. The prices don’t justify the food or the vibe at all. We should’ve known better since it’s literally in the backside of a barbecue restaurant. it was especially interesting that their specials are presented to you on a handwritten sticky note that they lay on your table. If you want really good sushi in this neck of the woods go to Miku. Thought we would venture out, but it was disappointing. If you’re into sashimi, the slices are extremely thin. And don’t ask for dessert. They have some cake thing and then when I asked for mochi, she said, let me go check back in the freezer, I think we’ve got some. Um, no. I’ll pass on freeze dried mochi. And if you like loud K-pop, then you’ll like this place.

We didn't love it. We tried some of the more pricey sushi options, which were OK but didn't warrant the overall price tag. When we left, we sort of regretted not going to the BBQ place next door.

The service here was perfect but the fact that their nigiri and sushi was also really delicious topped off the whole experience. I started off with some hot green tea and the following nigiri: Japan Snapper, Japan Fluke, and Japan Scallop. I really liked the addition of a little lime zest on the snapper while the scallop was super tender and melted in your mouth. After I finished the nigiri, I ordered the Hokkaido roll. This was also really good and everything about it was delicious. Again, the service here was great, and I couldn't remember the name of my waitress, but she was the best!

Hands down one of if not THE best sushi place in Charlotte. Either by dine in, take-out or delivery the absolute quality and attention to care and detail that is put into this sushi astounds me every single time.
This place has me closing my eyes and relishing the flavors I feel so privileged to experience. I've continued to order from them throughout the last several months and must say that the chef is high caliber. I want him making my nigiri every time haha! I must also add that the environment is so friendly and the servers are some of the nicest people you will cross paths with. They also have a great collection of Sake and Beers to compliment everything!
I often feel this way but as I'm eating my delivery tonight I felt especially called to leave this review because it's So dang good tonight someone needs to know hahaha!

I'd like to premise this with being to Japan for years and enjoying all of their cuisine. I'd like to start with having the beer local to Okinawa, Orion. I have yearned for this taste since I've left. I have usually started away from sushi places after being in Japan and Southern California. The sashimi selection is great. They have o toro (fatty tuna) and other cuts that aren't normally seen in a sub par sushi place. Go here.

This has been my go to spot for sushi since I found it less than 2 years ago. I have been over a dozen times and have only been disappointed when I cannot get a table. They do not take reservations, and this is one of the very few restaurants that I feel is worth making the extra effort to come early to get a table. In fact, I’ve been hesitant to write this review for fear of not being able to get a table if they get busier. The fish is fresh and fabulous and the waitstaff is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. There is an impressive saki list and quite a variety of wines. Recently, they have added a screened outdoor dining area, which I’m told will soon have fans installed. This executive chef is one to watch as his future ventures develop. I’ve now been to his Omakase by Prime Fish in the Cotswold area which is worthy of a Michelin star!

Had really high hope for this place, but unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. The nigiri and sushi rolls were served on paper plates, the atmosphere and seating was not comfortable, the sauces came in plastic to-go containers with lids and the portions were tiny. Service was just okay, we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and after spending $170 we left still hungry. If I’m going to spend that much I’d rather go to O’ku in South End.

Was recommended this place by a few people and finally went there for a light dinner. I actually love that the place is small and the sushi bar area is a main thing, always love watching sushi being prepared with all the action that comes with it (oh they could make the place a bit darker with maybe candles during the evening, just cozier , well, not as bright inside) . The sushi rolls were amazing. The only thing is the plates the food was presented on. They are paper bamboo look so very light, if you are trying to take a piece , the plate slides so you need to be careful and hold it in place, that kind of takes away a little bit from the whole food experience. i have never been to Japan so not sure if that’s a thing there in some restaurants but have never had it served on plates like that in the US. Either way, I know we will be back again since I am craving that “prime salmon” sushi roll again.

A mall place with a big bite. A great date night affair with a small seating area but the best fish I have ever had. I could not stop eating and every order came out super fast and was better than the last.
We started with beef carpaccio and black truffle salmon. Next we devoured as much sashimi and rolls as humanly possible. EVERYTHING was super fresh and tasted great. I cannot make a single recommendation over another because everything was excellent.
PS - best hand rolls I have ever had.

It’s a little surprising that the sushi is served on paper plates and that the restaurant is located in a strip center. The quality of food is certainly not indicated by the very casual atmosphere. In any case, even though the atmosphere may not impress, the food is certainly worthy of admiration.

Very nice sushi! You cannot got wrong with anything at this restaurant but I highly recommend ordering nigiri over the sushi rolls, they are normally lightly seared, aburi, and have salts and sauces added to them which is how it is done in Japan but is rare to find in most sushi shops in the US. Rated service a little lower as I was not offered the specials menu or a straw for my water but every other table got them.

The nigiri tasting was absolutely amazing!! Every piece of the nigiri had unique taste and you can tell it’s much better quality fish than other Japanese restaurants. As a Uni lover, I ordered uni nigiri of course and they didn’t let me down! They were very sweet and fresh(25dollars for 2 pieces). They melted in my mouth. I spent close to 100 dollars just for myself and I think it’s worth it given how good the fish tasted. However, they should use better plates as it looked cheap and were a little worn out on the edge.

Great service, fresh food, fairly priced, veggie friendly! Definitely will be our go to spot for sushi!

First time here at the recommendation of my daughter and it’s was fabulous. Small but nicely done space, very pleasant server and delicious sushi. Very fresh, artful presentation. The ONLY meh would be I’d prefer real plates as opposed to single use but do not let that deter you !

Sushi was delicious and we loved sitting at the counter watching the sushi chef do his thing. Service was fast and friendly too!

There's so much I like, and the sushi is really good, but there's one glaring oddity.
Quality of fish - top notch. Above average nigiri list with different grades of toro, they've got uni, hirame, kanpachi, etc. Salmon belly with a light aburi torching is great. Big thumbs up there, and the nigiri is nicely prepared. Brushing each piece with a light sauce is a pro move and nice touch for Edo-mae style sushi.
It's a small-ish space, which to me is what a sushi place should be. You've got the sushi bar front and center, but also some tables and outdoor seating.
Here's the oddball bit. Beers are served in a disposable plastic cup, soy sauce likewise in a 2 oz deli container, and your sushi is served on a paper plate. Part of your experience feels premium, and part of it feels like pizzeria level casual.
Plates and glassware would make this a far more congruent overall experience, but the sushi on its own is quite good.

I don't care for sushi, I try it all the time, but still not a preference. I ate the ginger salad and the beef carpaccio, which was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend tried 4 different rolls. All of which he said were really good. I tried the rainbow roll and the sake yaki. I preferred the sake yaki over the rainbow roll. But again, not a huge sushi person. We got there around 5:30 and there was a spot at the bar available, so we didn't have to wait. It did seem like it gets pretty busy. If you want good quality sushi/cuts of fish, I would recommend coming here, whether you dine in or carry out.

This is such a great sushi restaurant! It’s small and intimate, so we sat at the sushi bar.. honestly best spot in the house! Yes, we ended up ordering more based on recommendations from the chef, but it was totally worth it!
Our waitress was so nice and helpful and even gave us some of her own personal Japanese snacks before we left! The sushi chefs were very knowledgeable and kind, answering any questions we had. Its always such a great experience watching chefs create art with food! Also, we ended up sitting next two other groups and had great conversation! The couple next to use was on a first name basis with the chef and just asked him to make them what ever he wanted. He put together some beautiful nigiri and sashimi creations for them!
The overall restaurant design was simple and tasteful, with the main focus being the sushi bar. The space was well lit, but not too bright with decorative pendants at the bar. (Sorry I didn’t get many interior photos) The barstools were comfortable but being that my husband and I are a bit taller our knees were pressing up on the bar front, could also be a shallow bar top, but the sushi made up for it and I just got used to it! (Didn’t need to use the bathroom so can’t comment about that!)
Here’s what we ordered, 🍣= favorites and will definitely order again.
Nigiri:
- Scallop (ordered twice)🍣
- Barracuda (special)
- Yellowtail
- Young Amberjack (special)
Rolls:
- Naruto 🍣
- Sake Yaki 🍣
- Truffle Crab
- Crispy Umami
Overall, price really wasn’t that bad for the quality level and atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back especially to try one of their many Sakes they had to offer!
Side note: I wish the other reviewers on here would stop harping on the plates they serve on. You go to a sushi restaurant for well prepared fish. That’s their focus. The bamboo plates are more eco-friendly than using water and chemicals to disinfect normal plates.

Yama IMO was the best sushi place until Prime Fish opened. Amazing fish and great rolls. This is not a restaurant for non sushi lovers as a cooked dish is almost nonexistent. They even have Omikase in their other location. Best fish outside of Japan! It is very pricey, but the quality of the fish is superb. Hope they build an outdoor terrace with heaters for the winter for Al fresco dining. some ppl have complained that the food is on paper plates-who cares. I ate the best Indian food in Singapore on a banana leaf with my hands.

Food is fantastic and fresh. Minus one star as they serve everything on disposable plates and utensils

By far the best quality fish I’ve had in Charlotte. Can’t go wrong with any roll

A few friends recommended this place for amazing sushi!
There was a bit of wait time but totally worth it.
Its a small place with really delicious menu.
We tried:
Nigiri tasting,
Prime salmon and spicy umami.
Loved each and every sushi.
They are big on quality so expect small portion size.
Def recommend.

Too expensive for the amount of food. The crispy spicy tuna app is $13 for a hash brown, avocado, and a couple dollops of tuna. The quality of the fish is great; if that’s all you’re after you came to the right place.

Definitely one of the top sushi places around, and they have a huge sake selection.

The sushi was very fresh and tasty, but the choices were somewhat limited. Really just a sushi bar So you would expect better choices. Also a bit pricey but not terrible. Oh, everything comes on paper plates which is kind of weird

I still do not understand how they got a 4 stars. we were served a $15 sushi in paper plates! 4 tiny sushi rolls with okay fish quality for $75...not worth it.

I have been wanting to try Prime Fish for a while after hearing about it from a few friends. My husband, our 3-year-old daughter and I finally were able to try it today for lunch and it exceeded our high expectations. Seating is limited, but there is outdoor seating if you go on a nice day! We had the crunchy spicy tuna as an appetizer and it was so fresh and delicious. We each had a roll and they were also so good and the perfect size. We can’t wait to go back again soon!

Delicious. Try the Hamachi Kama. Great flavor with or without sauce, but that sauce really sets it off. Good quality. Worth the drive.

What an awesome neighborhood sushi spot! Everything was delicious. It was a little odd that the food was served on disposable plates, but the food is so good you don’t really even care. We had the sashimi sampler. So fresh and full of flavor. We will be back for sure!

Husband and I went for date night and really enjoyed the sushi. The quality was great! We went in and didn't expect such a small space but we got there early and there was no wait. By the time we left there seemed to be several parties waiting. We split a bottle of sake and we loved the ranges on price and different sakes available. We started dinner with tuna tataki. Loved it. It I served with microgreens and some crispy bits that offered a contrast in texture. Flavor of the sauce was light and did not overwhelm the dish. We also had the Naruto, Hokkaido, and Mr. Crabby roll. My favorite was the Hokkaido and the Naruto roll was a close second.
Although I was a but put off by the paper plates and to go soy sauce containers the sushi made up for it. Also I typically drink my sake in wine glasses and they didn't have any.

Came in and was immediately greeted. There was no wait for 2 on a Saturday night. We sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the saki cocktail (canned) Moscow mule flavor was delicious. We had the shrimp shumai for appetizer and 3 sushi rolls. Everything was delicious!!! Very fresh and full of flavor. The size of sushi is smaller than I’m used to but it did taste very good. The only other downside is the price is on the higher side compared to comparable places. We will come back to try different sushi but we probably will stick with our other regular “go to” spot…

I was so impressed with the quality of the fish. The chefs choice sashimi tasting is a must. We also tried two rolls - Villain and Chili Crab. The former was sweet with mango while the latter was filled with umami. They complemented each other well.

Not impressed. I am not sure what they are trying to be. A quality sushi place or a cheap quick hole in the wall. The food quality and menu has some impressive items, but who wants to eat a5 wagyu rolls on a paper plate? Everything is served on cheap paper plate. Presentation is very poor and service too. I hope they improve the vibe, bc I can see potential in the product.

Probably some of the best sushi I've ever had. Silva, our server was amazing. My wife and I had a great time. Can't wait to go back. Awesome simple menu (not cluttered), great sake list. 100% recommend!
Best sushi in greater Charlotte area that I have had, so far.

A little pricey but very fresh and delicious. Ordered Tuna appetizer which was unique but very good and the sashimi salad was terrific.
Sashimi extremely fresh.

The truffle crab roll is maybe the most delicious thing I've ever eaten. 10/10

Food was ok. Until we found a small brown bug moving in our food. They told us that it was just a sesame seed, but not sure when sesame seeds grew legs and moved over the plate.
Also the chili crab roll tasted of nothing. Not worth $20.
While the people serving were nice enough. There are better sushi places in ballantyne.
