Great atmosphere and super yummy food and drinks. Tried a couple of rolls and they were great. Had an old fashion with Angels Envy bourbon and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. The star of the meal was the key lime pie. Highly recommend!

The food here was amazing. I don't enjoy raw fish as much as my partner does and he said that the fish here was some of the freshest he's had! Sweet and buttery all the right textures and flavors.

I loved the roast duck and it was very different from the traditional Beijing duck i'm used to. It was sweet and the meat was tender. We also had dessert as it was my partner's birthday. We had a wonderful experience here. The ambience is dark and kind of romantic at least upstairs. I loved being able to see the bar and the decor/walls were very interesting.

Service was top notch and friendly. Food was just okay for the price though. The pork belly on a stick was the worst though - at least half of it was just gristle. The only things that stood out to us were the Brussels Sprouts, the wagyu dumplings, and the yuzu key lime pie.

There are other much more affordable sushi places in town, and other restaurants with equally nice atmosphere and better food. For my part, I'm going to those in the future.

Our party of six had the best time last night. We enjoyed toro toast, pork belly, calamari, sashimi, sushi rolls, a tomahawk, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and the duck breast. Everything was absolutely stellar and we paired it all with 3 different bottles of sake that were all different and deliciously unique in their own ways.

Service from Nicole was the cherry on top of a beautiful experience. Love the vibes upstairs too, so different for Charlotte, the decor actually has soul.

Everything was absolutely delicious the sushi was super fresh tasting. Our waitress Tamara was nothing short of amazing. She was very knowledgeable, pleasant, attentive, and gave us plenty of options on how we wanted our experience to go as we were there for my fiances birthday. The atmosphere was very nice and layed back I only rated four stars because the music was a little louder then I would've liked and the lighting was a little to dim to be able to comfortably read the menu.

This place was amazing to say the least. First off, the ambiance was awesome and decorations were so good. The food my wife and I ordered were a treat too. Our waitress, Jordan, was probably one of the best servers I've had in a long time. She was really knowledgeable and even recommended some of the Chef's specials they had going for the evening. She was very attentive and thorough with us and we even tried one of her favorites that she personally loved to eat. The sushi was absolutely delicious. And to top things off, the cinnamon beignets at the end of the night were definitely a winner. Thank you so much for making my wife and I's 2nd year wedding anniversary so special. We will certainly be back! Cheers!

My party and I had a wide variety of dishes and loved them all. My favorite among everything. We ordered were the porterhouse, tomahawk, and bluefin tuna. Outside of Japan, I’ve never had bluefin tuna and I enjoyed every bit of it at Baku.

If you are looking for an expensive restaurant with shared plates. The restaurant is very dark so we all used our phones to see the menu. The food did taste good, we could hardly see it. Service was good.

4 stars : yes but they are not trying to reach 5 starts. A little bit more effort is needed. Food which is Japanese is extremely good and this where you would think service and ambience matters to get a 5 star rating. A little bit effort on service would have taken it a long way. My suggestion is to train the wait staff do act like this is a Michelin star restaurant. You will get there if you do it. But highly recommend for a good suchi dinner.

We had a wonderful dining experience this evening. The food was phenomenal and Talla our server was wonderful - he was extremely warm and friendly, very helpful with the menu, and made us feel right at home. Everything was top notch except for one thing - the hostess. I would like to say that she greeted us when we arrived but alas that was apparently more than she was willing to do. She was extremely off-putting and made us feel like we were very much inconveniencing her by walking in. She did not ask us if we had a reservation so we told her we did. We had arrived right on time, yet she told us in a dismissive tone that we would have to wait nearly 10 minutes for our table (which made no sense as it was not busy and there were a number of empty tables) - without any explanation or apology. Not one smile from her, not a single word to welcome us to the restaurant. Having worked in the service industry myself, I understand there can be delays, but she was just so rude about it. When we were leaving, she didn’t even look up to say goodbye, another server walking by said it for her. With it being such a great restaurant, the food and service being outstanding, I don’t understand why they have someone like that be the first interaction that patrons have. Definitely visit this place for a great experience, just ignore the rude welcome you might get when you arrive. After that it’s all terrific!

It's really fun getting a bunch of apps here. It's really good food and a very sleek, chill atmosphere. I like that there's some couches to lounge on in front of a TV upstairs and the lighting is dim. I'm currently obsessed with Baku.

I was here for dinner Wednesday.
And order my usual dish, which is half dozen of the sea urchin on a spoon. 2 of the California sea urchin that I have tried wasn't good so I called the waitress to return and order the other one from Japan.
Manager came over and asked me to try another one that flew in from California last night and I tried the fresh one and it was still bad. It was so bad. We could not even continue dinner. We were there 6 o'clock left before 7. It totally ruined my pallet therfore, I cannot continue dinner and i suffer from serious stomachache the next days. Couldn't go to work for 2days due to diarrhea. All I had on Wednesday was the receipt attached. Not only I was sick from bad sea urchin and found out double charged including the bad urchin that I returned.
$485 for an appetizers?
I sent 3 emails without any response and calls and manager never got back to me. With this kind of money you will think to get fresh fish and service but not in BAKU for sure.
Don't waste your money here!!

The food was very good. It was flavorful and enjoyable. We loved the tapas menu. Alexis was the manager that evening and Giavanna was our waitress. They were both fantastic! Alexis ensured that we got a seat to dine-in and our host, though three months on the job, was knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. They both were extremely pleasant.

The atmosphere is amazing! The restaurant looks small from the outside but spacious inside and is trendy.

Food quality has decreased along with price increases. I ordered the sushi and sashimi for two, and there were multiple quality issues; this was disappointing given the price-point of $95. It also took me 40 minutes to receive my meal and I didn’t even order appetisers.

Rice quality: The sushi rice was bad, too much rice vinegar and the rice grains were overworked. This shouldn’t happen at a Japanese restaurant, let alone a restaurant with these prices.

Fish quality: I ate here a couple times in the summer and fall, and the fish has taken a decline since then. I wouldn’t describe any of the fish as very “high quality” this time. The salmon came from a saku block that had dried out a little, and the sashimi cuts were from the very end of a loin, why was that even used for sashimi? The akami was standard run of the mill akami, none of the tuna was particularly high grade. The waitress said there was o-toro on my plate, but I think it was just chu-toro. I prefer chu-toro, but still it was just “okay”. I also had a scale in my mouth at the end of my meal.

The fish was more on the “it’s edible” than the “wow great!” side. I know I shouldn’t expect fish graded for omakase, but at $95, quality needs to come up. The sashimi plate also increase to $72. I have no issue spending a lot for sushi/sashimi, but only if it warrants the price.

Maybe this was just an off night, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back. 1 star for the rice/fish issues (rice was unacceptable, fish was not good enough for price), 2 stars for service because I waited 40 minutes after I ordered to receive just the entrée, waitstaff was nice though. 3-4 stars for ambience.

Tip: Japanese uni spoon, bok Choi, Kim chi to complete your meal.

I have been here many times-I bring customers here monthly. Im at a table of anywhere from 2 people to 12 and they are always on top of it. Never had a bad service experience. And the sushi is fresh and delicious every single time. We order multiple rolls at once and they always come out on a large board and they really make it look beautiful-everyone takes pictures. Also get the dessert board for 2-delicious dessert and also looks great.
I have a couple people that come regularly that aren’t fans of sushi-they still have delicious meals.

This was my first time at this restaurant. I love sushi and we got the sushi platter plus a few appetizers. It was pretty good. I'll have to admit and I feel like it's probably the best sushi place in Charlotte. The fish was fresh and it wasn't overpowered with sauces like some of the other places that you will find here. The two rolls that came with the platter were definitely unique and well balanced. I don't even know if I use very much soy sauce actually. I would highly recommend this place if you love sushi.

It was all right, for the amount we have paid for nigiry soy sauce and ginger was so little i mean ever server did not refil the our soy sauce. Averall 3, and he should also tell that if you need only 1 kind of fish on nigiry, u should order from alakard meny. The server just wants to make upsale. In my opinion, he should provide the information first, and then he should upsale it.

Been here 4 times and food atmosphere and service are all great. But $18 for the smallest martini in the world or $16 for a small glass of $12 wine… is ridiculous and actually ruins entire experience. Will not be going back .
Left and went to cafe Monty’s for a martini twice as big , delicious food excellent service.
I understand food prices are high but I am not exaggerating when I say the smallest martini ever … it was unacceptable in my opinion.

I had two classic rolls which perhaps doesn't fully showcase Baku's culinary capabilities, but I found them to be ordinary and not as good as what I get at the airport in the main food court each trip to Charlotte. As others have mentioned, the pricing is a bit salty. A bourbon was $24. Ouch.

Had an early reservation and we were going to be placed in outside area that was extremely hot. Asked to be reseated and host (maybe 15 years old) stated that that was not an option. Ended up sitting at bar, bartender was great.

Certainly proud of the prices. Drinks are priced as if they’re in NYC. BB noodles have great flavors and tasted luxurious. Yakatori was highly overpriced but perfectly cooked. Hamachi rice crispy treats were bland and tasted like they were made hours ago. Nigiri was fresh. Roll was mid at best.

We frequent Steak 48 next door and decided to give Baku a try.
The food was excellent! The atmosphere was cute but extremely loud. It was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant with a few window units that blew right on the tables.
The service by our waiter was terrible. The waiter that brought us our food seemed great. That waiter explained what the different pieces of sashimi were and was really friendly. Our guy took our order and never came back until he asked if we were ready for the bill. My one glass of wine and my husband’s one glass of beer had been empty for a while. Thank goodness we had ordered bottled water (although it was $12 for 2 one pint bottles). He walked by our table several times but never stopped to check on us. My husband had to ask someone for soy.
I want to bring more family and friends here but do not want to experience that type of service again.
Not what we expected at all from this type of restaurant.

Best sushi in Charlotte that I’ve found, even rivaling LA sushi restaurants. The fish here is amazingly fresh, the salmon nigiri is insane. Their rolls are pretty creative and different than what you’d find at other sushi restaurants. If you like desserts, you have to try the yuzu and key lime pie. Only notes are that you should be prepared to spend $50+ per person for dinner and the music choice is sometimes a little weird

Firstly let me start with Monika- our server was eager, well versed, warm and welcoming. I've not had such a talented and customer experience driven server in years.
Secondly the A5 Waygu beef was the greatest cut of meat I've ever had the pleasure to taste. Please get this. It's worth the money.
Thirdly Monika, did I mention she made all the recommendations we needed/wanted and helped make our anniversary dinner perfect?
Fourthly- the sushi and small plates were both creative and familiar, high quality and expertly crafted - every bite was better than the last
Fifthly - craft cocktails were amazing and the sake list was epic
Sixthly- Monika got us to the right drinks as well.
BAKU is now my favorite place in Charlotte. It's high dollar but it's worth the money for the beautiful environment, food, selection and service.

BAKU has some of the best food I've had in Charlotte, and that NEVER, and i mean NEVER, disappoints; however, my experience pertaining to the service last night really made me take a step back. It took a while for me to be attended to in the midst of the restaurant being relatively empty. My drink was also forgotten, and by the second time I was checked in on, my appetite had disappeared. This isn't to say I won't ever go back, but it is to say I have reservations towards going back because that experience really put a sour taste in my mouth.

My partner and I stopped in last night for a date and the experience was nothing short of amazing. Sara greeted us and sat us. Along with immaculate knowledge, she was a great conversationalist as well. Our server Chris was an absolute dream. All of his suggestions were spot on and paired well with the sake and lychee mojito we had. Thank you for an amazing experience and superb food and service. Hope to stop by again soon!

I'm writing this review while memories of sushi and yakitori in Japan are still fresh from a few months ago.

The overall vibe and atmosphere here are totally on point; it's got character, not super casual but not pretentious either. I really enjoy the overall experience.

As much as I like to splurge, the yakitori seems crazy expensive for what it is. It's put together right, but totally lacking any smokey flavor, which I think is absolutely essential for legit yakitori. Room for improvement there.

For sushi, the a-la-carte nigiri list is short and not particularly diverse, but they've at least got some good stuff on it; a couple different grades of toro, and a couple different types of uni. It's generally nicely done and has the right consistency to melt in your mouth as a perfect morsel. The "toku-jou" uni from Japan... while good, seemed a bit less flavorful than what I've had elsewhere.

Overall pretty good and I'd totally go back. I think there are a few tune-ups it could use for the price point.

Everything we had was fantastic! You certainly get what you pay for because I haven’t had they type of flavor from anyplace else and I travel for a living so I’ve had good sushi all over but nothing was as good as this.

I was expecting a lot more from all
the great reviews. First time here and they were booked for dinner so we sat at the bar to have drinks and eat. Drinks where top price served in smaller size. It took over an hour for our 3 appetizers to come and it arrived a little warmer than room temp! Shrimp, calamari and gyoza. All tasted like any 2/3 star sushi place can make. It was not good at all. Since we were starving, we ate it. Didn't bother with ordering dinner since it was 2 hours later and the appetizers were terrible.

Took a chance to try out this restaurant next to our church on a Saturday evening (6:15pm). Got seated right away near other patrons. We were there 15 minutes and never got acknowledged with a glass of water or "your server with be with you shortly" -- although a few servers were working each table on either side of us. We wondered if this would be indicative of how slowly our meal would arrive Needless to say, we departed and headed to another Sushi restaurant where we were acknowledged, ordered, and had out mea within 15 minutes of arriving -- and saved $20 in the process. Will be awhile before considering Baku again.

Food was excellent but food and service was very slow.
When paying 524.00 for 2 people to eat I don't want to run out of drink and wait 20 minutes for another drink from the bar. Other than that it was great.

Great spot for a date night. Upstairs is cozy and intimate. Food was delicious!! Service was great. We ordered miso soup, trumpet mushrooms, fanshi yashi, kingu Kani, and tatsuage fried chicken. It was plenty of food for us. The fanshi yashi and the miso soup were my favs! Can't wait to visit again.

Eating here is always a great experience. My favorite is the Sashimi Ice bowl. Their Toro selections are always great.

Service is always friendly and attentive. One time we had a mistake on our order and the waitress immediately took responsibility and ordered a replacement dish on the house. That’s the kind of service you should be able to expect from a good restaurant.

We had an excellent meal here. It was the best sushi we have had since we finished working in Tokyo 2-1/2 years ago. The service was very good. They also have a very nice wine líst, while it was not large it had excellent wines to choose from.

Upon entering this establishment you get a bursts of aromatic flavors in your nostrils. So you know the food is going to be great. Coming from a Caribbean background this was the best tasting sushi I’ve ever eaten. Although I can’t remember the names of everything I ate, here are some pics. Our waitress with the beautiful nails was extremely pleasant and the ambiance was sophisticated and chic.

We’ve been to Baku before, and I can’t imagine why I haven’t previously reviewed them, because they’re AMAZING! This time we went for my birthday dinner, and WOW. It’s by far the best sushi we’ve had in Charlotte, and we’ve had some pretty good sushi/Nigiri/Sashimi in town. Honestly, I think it rivals the best Sushi we’ve had in NYC. The tuna and salmon Sashimi were fabulous, to the point that my wife was shushing me, because I was a little overly enthusiastic in describing how delicious it was. Not as loud as When Harry Met Sally, but you get the idea. 😎😁

This is by far the best sushi I have had in Charlotte. The ambience of the restaurant is amazing and our waitress was phenomenal!! It was nice to see a mix of young and old people enjoying this culinary delight. This is a must try if you are looking for a great dinning experience in Charlotte. I will definitely be going back!!!

First time at Baku and we had a fantastic dinner! Our server (Anna) had great sake recommendations and helped us pick the perfect dishes to eat. Every. Single. Dish. Was. Divine. We can't wait to come back here again. The vibe, aesthetic, and music was all spot on. Trendy, yet effortless this place is a must visit if you are looking for high end Japanese food in Charlotte.

It's expensive. Once you get over that, the food, drinks, and service are phenomenal. The Tokyo Fashion old fashion is great (goes down too quick!) The sake list is extensive and fantastic. We had the Golden Treasure, which was super fragrant, fruity, and smooth. The sushi is some of the best in town. Highly recommend the sushi for 2, which includes sashimi, nigiri, and 2 maki rolls. The fried chicken, short rib, and brussel sprouts were also favorites of our group. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion!

This is my favorite restaurant ever! If I could, I would go there EVERY weekend because of how delicious their food tastes! Everything comes out fresh, and you can tell the quality of the food. We also have a great time learning about the different items on the menu; they make sure servers are knowledgeable about the dishes. Overall, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It’s definitely a must try.

To the owner. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the food is good and the waiter Alex is even better. The front desk service is no good and needs to be addressed. We had a reservation for 8:15 tonight. We overheard the staff say the booth was given away because they didn't realize there was a reservation for it. Then they proceeded to give us updates saying they were just waiting for the people to leave. Basically lied to us from the start to try and cover themselves. One of the girls even said it's OK. They can get another table. 30 minutes later we got a table only because we settled for a table we didn't reserve. Then we're insulted by the offer of a free desert. If the girls would have been honest from the start I wouldn't have an issue with it. But to insult me by lying then offering a free desert is flat out rude. I let the Manager know we would not be coming back. I'm sure it may not matter much but the terrible customer service creates a terrible first impression of your business. I hope this is addressed so others don't have the same experience.

Food is so delicious. I had a Lychee
Martini one of my most favorite drinks and it was a bit too sour, not well balanced. However the food and the ambiance was great. Yellowtail roll was extraordinary.
What is great is that the place is well decorated and has an awesome vibe about it. The staff is friendly. Upstairs is sort of a lounge and it has a bar. Definitely give it a go.

Recently had one of my worst dining experiences at Baku. We had a reservation for a table of 8 with only 1 server. All of the meals came out at different times over 30 minutes even though we put them in together. It wasn’t like the sushi came out first and then entrees. It was just a mess. We constantly had to ask to get our drinks refilled and then remind them over and over again. Some items we ordered never even came out so we had to get them removed in the end. Basic things that should have already been prepped like fried rice. I normally tip 20% so I get good service, but having to pay a large group 20% gratuity on one of the worst service experiences I have had definitely left a sour taste. I will not be back.

Came here for my birthday dinner because I’ve heard how good this place was. I was not disappointed. First of, I had the best waiter named Alex! He was so pleasant and very friendly. We had the best calamari we’ve ever ate. Alex was an amazing help recommending us sushi and we are so glad we listened to him. The food was amazing and the service was phenomenal. Can’t wait to come back !

I was beyond disappointed with my dining experience this past Friday eve. There was a minimal amount of seafood in the four rolls that we ordered. In addition, there was a $3 surcharge for a $14 martini. $17 for a martini is ridiculous. I should have been informed of the $3 surcharge…I would not have ordered a second $17 martini. This was our last time here.

Baku was an absolute delight. Don’t forget to make a reservation in advance as they do fill up! This traditional Japanese steak house has it all from incredibly prepared waygu to an assortment of phenomenal fresh Shashimi and sushi options. We came in to celebrate some family in town and were warmly received and promptly sat. We were offered both digital and physical menus and started off with a number of appetizers to share.

I was particularly impressed with the time from order to food delivery and the quality of food was superb. This restaurant trends towards the pricier side but it is well earned in the gastronomical experience.

Would highly recommend and would return. See photos for palate recommendations.
