I ordered pickup for the first time here and they said 20 minutes. I showed up on time and they did not even have my order started, I was told a few minutes so I sat down. I watched as they served my to go order to people dining in, obviously confused when nobody took the items. I had to tell them they messed up and they just slid my katsu into a to go container instead of remaking it. They then had to remake my other two items that they already served to other people. I sat there for 30 minutes watching my katsu curry getting soggier and colder by the minute on their countertop. No refund, no sense of urgency to remedy the mistake. By the time they finished my order the katsu curry was basically leftovers being plated, replated, and just allowed to sit. Food was okay, would’ve probably tasted better not needing a microwave, but for the unprofessional service alone I wouldnt recommend.

Got a lunch special and it was fabulous, $13 for 3 rolls is an excellent deal, ajd the fish was very fresh. In the spicy yellowtail roll there is a piece of yellowtail not just the chopped up fish which I really like, I also got the Philadelphia and salmon avocado roll which were both delicious. The ratio of the rolls was very balanced, making every bite perfect! I will definitely be returning. The packaging for the to go order was also very nice, including chopsticks, a menu, napkins and utensils, a sauce cup for the soy sauce packets which is such a nice thoughtful touch!

I would argue this is some of the best bubble tea you can get in Buffalo. The tapioca is phenomenal. Chewy soft everything you could want. The bowls are really good and the fish in them is very fresh. Honestly this is now my new go-to spot.

For a quick lunch we dropped by this place. It was the worst Japanese restaurant ever. All plastics and not tidy (a hair in the spoon and a red stuff in the plastic water cup). The worst was the quality of their rolls and a miso soup almost like water.

We happened to be in the mall and went to this place instead of our usual place Wasabi Japanese restaurant. I hated my laziness not having a quick 5 min drive to Wasabi.

The owner needs to be more serious.
We will never come here again.

I wanted to try a restaurant that had takoyaki, so my boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch. It was overall a solid, good experience. Ordering was a little bit confusing at first but wasn't too bad once figuring it out. It was very quiet here when we went and the decor is what I'd call an asian-inspired modern style. Maybe a little bit TOO quiet, but that could just be me.
It wasn't the absolute best I've had, but it's definitely worth a go around if you're in the mood for some good Japanese food.

Food is fantastic best sushi in Buffalo. For the record I’ve had Wegmans, Fuji Grill, The Wind and multiple other Japanese restaurant food. Plating was cool as well. Very nice people but it’s not a diner so they don’t come around 5 times a meal which is good for me because I’m stuffing my face in sushi. Overall, 9/10 all day.

I wasn't rushed and even was able to ask for something not on the menu. I got the UB roll, volcano roll and the food was super fresh and outstanding. We also got the ramen which is awesome as well. We will be back and I recommend to anyone. Likely the best sushi I have had in Buffalo.

Coming from NYC where sushi/poke spots are of abundance, I was skeptical when someone suggested this spot for lunch. I got the bowl with 2 protein, hubby got their 3 roll lunch special, and we got chicken hibachi to share. For drinks we got passion fruit tea - I love that they put pieces of actual passion fruit in the drink but wayyyy to much syrup. It was too sweet for me (keep in mind that I’m the type of person that gets tea without sugar - so you might enjoy the sweetness!)

We ordered online and it was easy to navigate. I was disappointed with how many toppings we can get - I’m used to getting 8+ or unlimited in NYC. HOWEVER, they gave a hefty amount of the 4 toppings and the amount they give in the entire bowl is very filling. For protein I got their spicy tuna and salmon. The salmon pieces were large/chunky and fresh - the pieces I get in NYC are about half the size, so this was a nice surprise! The spicy tuna was good, but is pre seasoned, so with the dressing it gets a bit salty - I would just get tuna next time.

For the 3 rolls, everything was delicious - the rice on the sushi was nice and thin. Hibachi chicken’s sauce leaked everywhere on the way home - despite the mess, it was also really good and came with a mix of veggies.

All in all, a great quick, sushi spot and would def go back when I’m in Buffalo!

Title: Authentic Japanese Delights at Hokkaido Cafe

Rating: ★★★★☆

Nestled in the heart of the city, Hokkaido Cafe is a hidden gem that brings the flavors of Japan to life. As a lover of Japanese cuisine, I recently had the pleasure of dining at this cozy establishment, and I must say, it left a lasting impression on my taste buds.

From the moment I stepped into Hokkaido Cafe, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a tranquil atmosphere. The minimalist decor and traditional Japanese accents created a serene ambiance, transporting me to the vibrant streets of Hokkaido. The attentive staff added to the overall dining experience, ensuring that every guest felt welcome and comfortable.

Now, let's delve into the main attraction—the food. Hokkaido Cafe boasts a menu that showcases the rich and diverse culinary traditions of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island. From ramen to sushi and everything in between, there is a wide selection of dishes to satisfy every craving.

I started my culinary journey with an appetizer of gyoza, perfectly pan-fried to a delightful crispness while maintaining a juicy filling. The flavors were well-balanced, and the accompanying dipping sauce added an extra punch of umami. For the main course, I opted for a classic bowl of miso ramen. The broth was rich and aromatic, with layers of flavors that danced on my palate. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the toppings, including tender slices of chashu pork and a perfectly cooked soft-boiled egg, elevated the dish to another level.

One thing that impressed me about Hokkaido Cafe was the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Each bite was a testament to the care and attention put into sourcing top-notch produce and authentic Japanese flavors. The attention to detail in the presentation of the dishes added to the overall visual appeal, making the dining experience even more satisfying.

Apart from the savory delights, Hokkaido Cafe also offers a variety of delectable desserts. The matcha-flavored treats, such as matcha ice cream and matcha mochi, are a must-try for any matcha enthusiast. The desserts were not overly sweet, allowing the delicate flavors to shine through.

While the food at Hokkaido Cafe undoubtedly shines, it is worth noting that the restaurant's seating capacity is limited, which may result in longer wait times during peak hours. However, the cozy and intimate setting adds to the charm and authenticity of the dining experience.

In conclusion, Hokkaido Cafe is a delightful destination for those seeking an authentic taste of Japan. With its inviting atmosphere, attentive service, and flavorsome dishes, it captures the essence of Hokkaido's culinary traditions. Whether you're a fan of ramen, sushi, or simply looking to explore the diverse world of Japanese cuisine, Hokkaido Cafe is a worthy choice. Prepare to embark on a culinary journey that will transport you to the enchanting flavors of Japan's northernmost region.

Ordered through uber eats and paid $72.45 for 3 meals. I will never be ordering here again. Steak was grisly and undercooked, almost looked like it was steamed. Fried rice was spicy and just overall a very strange flavor. Mushroom soup was thick and extremely salty. Portions were horrifically small, my 3 year old didn't even get filled up and she's not a big eater at all. I will stick with Kyoto, don't know why I decided to try elsewhere to begin with.

Came back after they had some renovations. How they turned this place around since they started is amazing. I had a great experience when it first opened. I had an even better experience today. The place is so nicely done. I really like that they have great food choices and sell boba with that wasn’t there before. The quality of the food is amazing and so are the workers. Had a Taro milk tea, the taro tasted very authentic. It’s not like cheap powder other places use. The atmosphere here is very nice. It’s a wonderful place. A secret restaurant for Buffalo.

Ordered the Chicken Hibachi, fried rice, and gyoza through Uber Eats. When I was handed the bag, it was DRIPPING in grease. No wonder, as when I opened up the chicken hibachi, it was SWIMMING in watery grease. Not sauce, which wasn't included like every other Japanese restaurants does, but grease. The fried rice had a gritty texture and tasted fishy, that was thrown away after two bites. The gyoza were barely cooked and tasted of raw dough. Combine that with the low low price of $30 and I can confidently say this is the worst lunch I have ever had.

Koi Sushi offers all you can eat sushi for both lunch and dinner. The all you can eat menu also includes non-sushi options like katsu, teriyaki, tempura, and the usual appetizers, like gyoza, as well as a couple soups and salads. Their Miso soup has a good flavor.

Service was decently paced. They kept bringing out a few things at a time then the sushi comes all at once. One of the servers didn't seem to speak much English, but we managed fine despite that. All of the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Personally, I think the quality of the food is average. It was tasty, but Taisho is slightly better. Koi is definitely good if you're really hungry or if you want to try a bunch of different things.

Said food was a mixture of hot, lukewarm, and cold (Rice, Chicken, Vegetables in that order). Person who had some some sushi noted the portion size was extremely small. Please note that if you plan to pay by card, you need to have an order closer to $10. Otherwise they will charge you an extra $1. No where is this mentioned. Lunch buffet clearly states we would be charged full price for any food left on the table. Also rather than trying to help with the situation our server just swept the floor when not with other customers.

The rice that surrounds each piece of sushi perfect holds it together. You can taste the freshness of each item you order. This is just about my favorite sushi restaurant ever! There is a huge variety of sushi choices and there are even some non seafood items for people who can't eat that. It is reasonably priced and the food is made right in front of you if you sit at the bar area. It can get a little crowded during peak hours but it's typically not too noisy that you can't talk to someone. It's a great place to bring your friends that are curious to try sushi worry that they won't like it since there are options for everyone. My favorite options are the snow crab salad and the dragon roll.

I've gotten food poisoning 3 of the 5 times I've been here. While the Service is okay, the sushi is sub-par. The salmon cut I got as sashimi was so thin, rice was poking through it, like it had been ripped apart. I get it's AYCE, but I'm here to get sushi, not a load of rice with a tiny bit of fish. Waitress 1 didn't even fill our water 2/3rds of the way and waitress 2 was new and didn't know what roll we even ordered. All for $25?

Maybe on days it's better and worse; all restaurants are. But, I'd really spend my money elsewhere. Plus, you know, food poisoning.

Good deal, especially with Groupon deals. Food is largely decent but as others have found you will sometimes not get the things you ordered on the all you can eat dinner.

Haven't dined inside in over 2 years but this is the 3rd pick up order in a month. Sushi is made fresh to order and rolls are 50% off for take out. Good deal

The sushi is okay, not great, not bad. They have a wide selection to choose from (went for lunch). The wait time for food is absolutely unreasonable. It took about 25-30 minutes to get our first order which was small and basically starter food, soups and salads. Put in our second order which was a variety of sushi rolls/dumplings... about a 45 minute wait! To make matters worse, all the sushi rolls were put on the same platter plate and placed in the middle of the table even though 3 adults placed 3 separate orders! They did the same with the dumplings. Customer service is like the quality of their food, not great, not bad, just okay. Nothing to write home about. If you have half an afternoon to spend waiting for your order and don't mind sharing the same plate of food with your company than this is the place for you.

I came here for lunch and started ordering some sushi and rolls. First impression was, they tasted great but somehow bit tiny. I thought, 'Hmm, it taste good, but it seems kind of pricy because the porpotion of foods are small' I was afraid that I would quickly end up paying more than 20 bucks so I asked for check. Then the check showed that it is only 15 bucks including taxes!! It turns out, the lunch is 15 bucks and that is a BUFFET: You can eat as MUCH as you want and it is still 15 bucks!! Isn't that awesome? Note: Be advised, the menu says "Extra charges for leftover foods" So EAT MUCH AS YOU WANT, BUT ORDER ONLY MUCH AS YOU CAN EAT. And ofcourse, I postponed my check and ended up eating much more.

Food quality is very good, but the service is exceptionally slow--especially for an all you can eat restaurant. For comparable food quality, I have been to many quicker service establishments. Sunday afternoon and waiting 20 minutes for a small green salad is a bit much.

Quality is low. I didn't leave very full because after ordering one round of food, I wasn't dying to have more of it. I would not come back here and would not recommend to anyone. This is probably why they have groupons...because return rates are low. Go somewhere else for sushi!

At a glance:
Type: All you can eat
Dinner: $22.99
Overall Rating: 2 stars
Quality of food: Sub-par and would not return.
Groupon: Yes

Disclaimer: I'm from Toronto so my standards for sushi are quite high. I don't usually write reviews but my sub-par experience compelled me to write one to help other people better make their decision on whether or not to come here. All-you-can-eat places usually get a bad rep for being low quality. In Toronto, the quality of sushi is very high even for all-you-can-eat.

I was recommended here by my friend who said it was good. I went with my friend on a Saturday night at 8:30pm. We found a groupon for this restaurant; for $12 you can get value of $20. Groupon isn't clear about this, but it is NOT one groupon per person, it is one groupon for 2 adults.

When we first arrived, we were the only customers there. This may have been due to the fact it was one of the coldest winter days of the year. As we ate, there were three other tables of two that trickled in. It was a cozy little strip mall sushi place with dark wooden tables. Service was good (standard). Portions of food is small, which I like.

We enjoyed the appetizers. In my opinion, I think they do a standard job with this. We enjoyed their salads, udon and spring rolls. The chicken yakitori was grilled quite dry, the beef wrapped around green onions had good flavour but was dry, the shrimp tempura is not made with authentic panko, it is more of a bread crumb batter and the miso soup tasted sour (not fresh?)

Sushi
The spicy salmon sushi was weird. I expected chunks of salmon mixed with spicy mayo wrapped in seaweed. Here, it was like a thick mayo paste with no trace of any salmon in it. Terrible. We didn't order any other sushi because of this.

Maki rolls
Just beware that whenever they use the term "snow crab" they actually mean imitation crab. The ratio of white rice in the rolls is a lot. The rice is plain rice (no vinegar or sugar added). I usually expect some sesame seeds on the outside....this place skimped on that . The spider roll (softshell crab), eel and cucumber, rainbow roll was decently good. We ordered seconds of these. I didn't like that they put teriyaki sauce on the eel roll though, it should be eel sauce instead. We also ordered the Philadelphia roll....this was okay.

Sashimi:
They have white tuna, white fish (tilapia), salmon, mackerel and surf clam. I ordered 2 pcs of mackerel since I've never tried it before so I have no comparison. I ordered 10 pcs of salmon sashimi. When I order raw salmon, I expect it to be chilled, bright orange with marbled fat running through it and texture to be firm. The salmon sashimi at Koi sushi was the opposite- a dull orange, not a lot of fat and the texture was soft. I ate the 10pcs to not waste the fish but I certainly did not order more as it didn't seem fresh to me. The next morning, my stomach didn't agree with it either.

Dessert:
The worst part was that they didn't serve dessert here. No ice cream. I found this appalling and made me wonder why I'm spending $23 + tax here when the quality of food was so low. I have had better quality all-you-can-eat sushi at a lower price and with better food. Will not return.

Went here since I had a Groupon, not fully satisfied. Its all you can eat for one price, and if you don't eat the food you get charged full price for the sushi you didn't eat. Got an egg roll plate with a long black hair on it but had to eat it since I would be charged. The sushi was good, I would recommend takeout. The service is slow, overall decent place. $23 per person

I'd been going to a sushi buffet for quite a while, and when this place was recommended to me, I'd wondered how well it would compare.

Well, it vastly surpassed my previous experiences and set its own standard.

Granted, there are some things I'm not a fan of - using white tuna for the spicy tuna, or the cans of soda rather than from a tap, but I'm willing to overlook these minor inconveniences for the wide diversity of the menu and the excellent quality of the food. I will certainly come here again and again.

The first time I visited Koi Sushi was in 2018. We came in for the "all you can eat sushi". What a bad experience. The sushi was ALL rice. We couldn't really find any fish in it. We were shocked and felt taken advantage of as a consumer. Never have I been to a sushi restaurant that tries to pawn off rice for a quality sushi product. 1-Star review, no question. However, 3 years later I decided to call and order off of the menu instead of doing the all you can eat. I ordered the Koi Lobster Roll, Sunflower Roll, Koi Roll and Chicken Udon Noodles for my family. I have to say that it was nothing like my first experience. The sushi rolls looked like sushi rolls. It was exactly what you would have expected to come from a low budget sushi restaurant. Everything was packaged well for the to-go order, prices are pretty consistent with any other sushi restaurant in our area (but those restaurants are far superior), the sushi tasted blah. I am still really put off at the fact that I was served rice and had to pay over $60 the first time I visited this place so for that, and the fact the sushi is sub-par, I am only going to give Koi Sushi 1-star. This restaurant has proven to be consistently inconsistent and takes advantage of walk-in customers by charging them too much money for what they are getting. I'd say if you are looking to order sushi in a last minute pinch, and Koi is the only option, STOP and order pizza.

Service has always been fast. Food has always been good. I haven't ever had the experiences as some others.

Waitress is always the same. She's not very friendly and doesn't refill even water without waving her down. But hey, every place has their downsides.

Still a 5star option in my book.

Somebody call the fu****g cops! This is an impressive establishment considering he space they have to use. Let's talk lunch buffet. Ho-lee mackerel is this a bargain for twice the price. All you can eat fresh sushi, for 16 bucks and some change!? If I didn't know this is where you signed up, I'd be hard pressed to know where I need to be to sign up. Incredible little sushi spot in a strip mall. Some of the best sushi I've ever had. 10/10. Five stars. Two thumbs up. Delightful.
