We made a reservation and it filled up pretty quick after we sat down. It's a fun experience if you get the right chef and last night we had two side by side which had friendly banter and made us laugh.
Our chef made great entrees.

Our server made us feel rushed though. We sat down and was given our soup AND salad at the same time before we even ordered drinks or saw menus. When we ordered drinks we were asked to also order our meals. It felt rushed and impersonal. Usually you get the soup or salad first...I ate my salad first which in then made my soup cold. I guess I didn't think that out. The drinks were good off the cocktail menu.

The only other thing we didn't like was the tacked on service charge. We tipped our chef when the meal was done AND before we received the bill. We essentially tipped him twice. Just beware of that.

4 hibachi meals, 2 apps, 2 cocktails, 1 soda cost $171.

The skill and showmanship of the chef varies. Service was a little slow but not bad. The food tasted good, especially when hot off the grill. They were very careful to accommodate someone at the table with a food allergy but then used the same utensil to cook with both groups of food after separating them. Fortunately, she clarified that her "severe" allergy did not include touching the food or using a utensil that had touched the food. But my hope is that the chef fully understands the depth of the food allergy before starting to cook.

I purchased 2 orders of chicken and steak Hibachi to go. The steak seemed like really low quality and it was tough and rubbery. The Chicken was even worse it had some weird like sour taste with a rubbery texture. Not sure how they seasoned their chicken but it was no good. My wife and I only took a few bites and just threw it away. I eat Hibachi frequently and this is by far the worst I ever had. They give you quantity but unfortunately there is no quality. I will stick with Kobe next time.

Stopped in for a quick lunch with my daughter after shopping and was pleasantly surprised. Our server, Michael suggested the lobster sushi roll and it was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. We will be back 😊

Update: My husband and I went for hibachi and it was a fun experience. Our server Amy suggested the miso soup to suit our dietary restrictions and we were grateful. Lou the chef was awesome and cracked an egg into a heart! Perfect lunch spot or date night. Also, the sogo Mai Thai was delicious!

After an 11 hour shift I picked up my son and treated him to hibachi for the first time.
We absolutely loved it and the experience was amazing.
Definitely will be going again soon.

18% service fee showed up on the bill at the end of the meal. Asked the server where that 18% went to and she said it was split up between the wait staff, buss staff and chefs, however, that was not her tip. So be prepared to get a 18% service fee essentially “tipping” the whole staff and then pay a 15-20% tip on top of that. We did not see any printed notice of the fee when looking at the menu so we did not know if the “service fee” prior to ordering. The food was good, but the extra fees make an already expensive meal ridiculously expensive. Include the service fee in your menu price so when people check the prices ahead of time they know if they can actually afford your establishment or make no tipping allowed in the establishment. It felt very much like being taken advantage of or scammed.

Sushi was ok at best. Wasabi was old and dry. Fruit flies were all over the place and they charge you an 18% service charge which isn’t disclosed until the bill arrived and I asked about it.

What cracks me up is the chef has a cup on his cart for tips so I tip him $20, then once you get your bill that was $110 the there’s a $19.75 surcharge tip for everyone working there, but that’s not all……. The waitress goes to explain that’s not for her if like to tip her that’s separate so gave her another $7. So $46.75 just for tip which is almost half are food bill and I’m not a person to complain about tipping but that place ridiculous!!!

2 issues with this restaurant:
A hot dish came with off-odour cold oodles. I got a new dish after I mentioned it.
It changed 18% service fee without mentioning it. After I saw it, I thought that would be the tips, but the waiter told me that is mainly for the kitchen; he doesn't get much of it. It means I have to give tips after it already charged me a service fee. I will never go back to this restaurant again. Not honest and provide poor-quality foods.

This is regarding our most recent visit only. The only reason I gave any stars was because our chef was so nice. We were told 15 minutes for the wait, then it was over an hour. We were seated alone at a hibachi table, then seemingly forgotten about for 15 or 20 min. When the waitress finally took our order, she didn't write anything down and half of my order wasn't called in (I didn't order hibachi, my fiancé did.) When the chef came over he said the waitress asked him to let me know they were out of tofu so she had to cancel it, but she never came back to ask me what I wanted instead. I only ordered tofu, a small salad and a cup of soup, so the tofu was my main dish. The chef went to the kitchen to add an avocado starter for me. Of my original order I only got my soup. The salad was never called in. After my fiancé finished his hibachi we waited another 20 min to see if the waitress or anyone would bring us the check or a box for his leftovers. We flagged another chef for the box, then went to the front desk for our check. We realized too late (after tipping 10 dollars) that they had automatically added 18% gratuity, so we tipped over 40% for basically no service at all. We're just hoping our chef ended up w most of it.

Food was good, but our waitress had forgotten parts of our order. We would have told her had she come back to the table once during our meal. It was the busser who was taking care of us. Someone in our party had expressed displeasure, resulting in the "waitress" being combative.

My girlfriend and I were out for her birthday with her parents, who were paying. We left first. On our way out, the "waitress" was doing nothing but trash talking about her lack of good tip. Try a little bit next time. You aren't entitled to a good tip when you provide non-existant service and are combatitive. I don't think being a waitress is her thing.

We have been going there forever. This was not good tonight. It was not busy. The chef was terrible. Food was very bland. Hardly any seasoning on it. We had to ask for rice balls. No socky shots offered. Not friendly chef at all. It was like he was n a hurry. Again food was not good. This was 4 months ago. We tried it again tonight 4/1/24 to give them another chance. Last time. Same chef. Same bland food horrible. 100 to throw food away. So sad.

I had a great experience while eating at Sogo Sushi & Hibachi. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I ordered a California roll, and I had chicken and steak hibachi meal, and everything was cooked to perfection and to my liking. I will definitely be stopping by again.

Portion size going down, my biggest complaint. Prices going up. Completely not worth 35$/plate for hibachi. Has gotten ridiculous. As far as food, it depends on your chef. Some are great (one soft spoken man in particular), others not so much. I was disappointed today. Waste of money 😔

If I could give this place no star, I would. My family arrived at the establishment waited almost 2 hours for our food to come. Watched several tables arrive 30 to 45 minutes after us And be served promptly. Finally, after about an hour and 45 minutes. When My wife and I finally said something to our server. She then proceeded to Ask us if “we were going to have a problem”. From then on, she did not come back to her table, in fact, she passed us off to another waitress. When our waitress comes back, she hands us our $120 bill with no offer to take our drinks off or any sort of compensation after we waited for 2 hours to be served. When we asked for a manger our server stated she would “get him for us”.We waited 15 minutes before walking to the front. At which point we were told the manager was never told we needed to speak to him. It’s 9:15 at this point and we had been there with 2 kids since 6:30. When we told them we were at the point of leaving the only white server threatened to call the cops on us a mixed race couple and blended family. After this several other waitresses came over and started getting involved and basically ganging up on myself and my family. This place makes people of color feel unwelcome. And they are very unsanitary as well. We witnessed them touch raw meat to clean plates and then serve on them. We were not only unsatisfied but appalled by our treatment. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Steer clear

I ordered takeout, a gyoza and a chicken hibachi meal. The good thing about the hibachi is their is a good assortment of food with it. Chicken, lo mein, rice, vegetables, salad. The chicken didn't really seem to have much flavoring to it. The rice, vegetable, noodles, and salad were ok. I did like the gyoza, they had a good crunch to then and came with a good sauce. I also liked the soup as well. I'd recommend trying them during lunch to see if the food is a good match for you.

The hidden 18% surcharge, is unfortunately "game over" for me. Waitress was great, mostly friendly service, but to add that 18% service charge, and only be told about it as you are receiving your check seems pretty scammy to me along with the "this is only for the chefs, please tip more now for me" Not cool. Be pre-warned about this practice. It is NOT on all their menus, it is NOT on the all-you-can eat. We will not be back. What started as a pleasant experience, ended with what another review stated...a bad taste in my mouth!

The food arrived at our house inedible. It looked like cat food and the tuna was brown and the $4.50 salad was brown romaine lettuce, no other vegetables and the size of my palm. Definitely inedible too. Do not try this place.

18% “service” fee added to our party of 2… to which the server, who was great, had to explain it wasn’t her tip… it was for the hibachi chef and for the sushi chef and she only got 4% of it. She also added that a lot of restaurants are doing that now which I have never had on any of the checks that I have ever eaten out at recently and I eat out quite a bit. There was no posting of this additional 18% fee anywhere visibly. She did say that it was in very fine on the menu. Just left a very bad taste in my mouth! Will probably never return.(again the server was lovely!) I just don’t agree with that. I’ve seen service fees added for parties of six or more never for a party of two and we only ordered sushi.

Food was good BUT they have a hidden surcharge that is high. We ordered all you can eat and handed the all you can eat menu. On that menu there is NO mention of surcharge. Talked to Laney, a supervisor of some sort, and told her that there is no mention of the surcharge on the menu that we were given to order off. Laney told me that the surcharge was in the OTHER main menu and that she is not responsible for my `idiocy` by not looking through the other menu that we were told not to look at to order. There were also no signs at the table about this surcharge.. We asked to speak with the manager who refused to take the charge off, was unconcerned that Laney basically called me an idiot, received no apology from Laney and was told that it is `what all the restaurants do in this area` . Even though the food was good and our waitress was good - by the way I was treated by Laney and the manager, I will never go back.

The food was spectacular. The server was spectacular. THe atmosphere was spectacular. The portion of food was spectacular. The only reason I would not go back is that quite to my surprise, a 18% service charge was added to my bill.. I am generally a big tipper (20-25%). However, to have it automatically added to my receipt was a BIG turn off. The 18% service charge warning was not visibly posted as you walk in. I did not leave a tip. I would rather they raise the prices 18% or let me determine a tip than "sneak" it on to the customer's receipt. There are plenty of great sushi places (5 Star) in Rochester that don't do this, Oh well, my vent!!!

Pretty good sushi for the price, and very attentive and fun servers/staff... but what the heck is up with an 18% service charge at the end? The service charge doesn’t even go to the waiter/waitress! So basically we had to pay a tip twice.... icky! Other than the extra $20 I wasn’t expecting to pay on “service charges”, it’s a fairly good restaurant.

A disappointing experience. The waiter and his service were phenomenal, but the quality of the sushi was mediocre. Far from fresh, some pieces actually had a slight taste of freezer or fridge burn. And, caution: they slap a pre-tip service charge on your final amount (most of which doesn't go to your server), so assume the prices are 18% higher than what you read on the menu.

Very disappointed in my birthday diner last Saturday. No fun show, or sharing of sake. My salmon and steak both over cooked and I ordered med rare! No checking in with waitress to see if everything was okay. Not going back, and I've been coming there for 3 years. $200. later for crapy meal!

First time dining in. Waitress and host was really nice. Sushi was ok. I thought it didn’t come with tobiko cause it showed an extra charge for it. I could barely eat it with the tobiko. Our plates were not taken so it left our table cluttered and messy. I’m not sure if I would go back but take out is good. Drinks are good though.

I am a long-term customer of this place. The quality of food was always good when served directly at the hibachi chef grill versus the dining area. However, after they opened up once the pandemic calmed, their rules became so strict to the point of having nonfriendly service. They refuse to seat a group if one person is missing from the reservation. They did not change the cook who made diner food for the non-hibachi customers, even though more than enough customers complained about that cook's quality of fried rice. Their servers have a significant turnover rate with most of them looking miserable and acting frustrated frequently. To this day, they have no bartender making drinks, leaving the servers and management to perform those tasks. In other words, the servers look overworked constantly, and that tiresome behavior spills into the quality of service given to customers. Therefore, I visit their competitors more frequently now. In fact, I learned abou fights breaking out in that Hibachi area between servers and customers. The reputation of this place has deteriorated.

Delicious sushi and amazing and entertaining hibachi. What isn't there to love. My meals here are always delicious, and the wait staff and hibachi chefs are always super friendly and always smiling.

The hibachi dinner is very filling and has terrific portions of rice, vegetables, and the main entree. I will definitely continue to come here in the future.

Made a reservation 1 week in advance for a party of 7, showed up for our reservation to find out they don’t have a reservation for me. The Host Pretending to call the webster location and says sorry you called the wrong location. Your reservation is with the other location. We can’t accommodate your party. So we had to find a different place to eat last minute on a Saturday at 5pm. When i got home I looked at my call log and realized I did indeed call the greece location one week prior to make my reservation . Called them back to explain all this and they said oh you have a reservation for tomorrow night, the person you talked to put it under the wrong date. what a joke this was, thanks for ruining my birthday dinner with friends.

Omg! I had the veggies with shrimp, beef and chicken and it was literally one of the best things I've ever eaten and the best thing about it is that it's keto. Went to sogo last night with my partner, they got hibachi and I got sushi. They didn’t enjoy their hibachi, but I did think my sushi was good and the prices were good. But their food came at least 5 minutes before mine, so we just sat there waiting for my food. The server we had seemed to be doing a million other things so they didn’t come by our table except to literally drop off the food and check. Lastly, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. I have seen cleaner bathrooms at a rest stop. I will say though, the staff we interacted with were very pleasant.

I dont how this place has even bad reviews i went there 2night and this was litterly the best food ive had at a resturant in my life!!! Yeah it isnt cheap for dining & extra service charge plus tips but that just shows sometimes the best isnt cheap! I had both hibachi and menu item sesame chicken & wow i litterly would come back in a heartbeat! ♥️ i was there with my family member & He knew the chef we had ! This place definitley deserves a great review & 2 comment about the bathrooms being nasty i dont know what they look like as i did not drink enough liquid 2 have 2 use them there. But my son did & he said the bathrooms were fine. But heres a picture of the sesame chicken order i had! Best sesame dish ever !

The bathroom? So scary, toilets were filthy and one had a crooked seat, paper towel holder was broken with no effort of fixing it, random hand soap bottles strewn about, upkeep just isn’t there. The chef was cool but I’ve seen better, half of the experience is the show. They are so terribly understaffed, I’ve never seen a server sprint through a restaurant before but tonight I saw it 3 times. Good food overall but the veggies and meat weren’t cut small enough. Probably wouldn’t revisit.

I’ve been for their hibachi multiple times and the portion size is incredible, you get a lot of food and I always have leftovers. Their yum yum sauce is incredible and it’s a fun experience. I’ve ordered their sushi once (crunchy roll, spicy scallop roll, sweet potato roll) and was not that impressed, but it was fine. What was impressive is how quickly they served me, I ordered and had my sushi within 5 mins!

We made a reservation and it filled up pretty quick after we sat down. It's a fun experience if you get the right chef and last night we had two side by side which had friendly banter and made us laugh.
Our chef made great entrees.

Our server made us feel rushed though. We sat down and was given our soup AND salad at the same time before we even ordered drinks or saw menus. When we ordered drinks we were asked to also order our meals. It felt rushed and impersonal. Usually you get the soup or salad first...I ate my salad first which in then made my soup cold. I guess I didn't think that out. The drinks were good off the cocktail menu.

The only other thing we didn't like was the tacked on service charge. We tipped our chef when the meal was done AND before we received the bill. We essentially tipped him twice. Just beware of that.

4 hibachi meals, 2 apps, 2 cocktails, 1 soda cost $171.

FOUR (4) SPOILED ROTTEN SMELLY SOUR GREY SLIMY STEAKS!!!!! $150 dollars! I Was told by the owner himself it looks odd and tastes spoiled because it comes from different colored cows 🤯!! He was incredibly rude and confrontational. Wouldn’t even let me speak! Refused to give us new steak or cut us a break on the hefty bill! I almost called the police! How is this legal!?!? Serving spoiled food and calling the customer crazy! This place is filthy disgusting and serves spoiled rotten meats! BEWARE DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!! Health Department coming your way!!! Absolutely disgusted and highly disturbed by this entire experience!

My partner ordered take out in the restaurant the other night. Not only did they leave out multiple dishes, but they also mis-gendered my partner, and the last straw was fish bones in our sushi. We spent over $100 that wasn’t even including any food delivery fees, we didn’t receive multiple dishes, which has happened in the past that we’ve ignored. But to have fish bones in the few dishes we did receive, I don’t believe we will ever order from this restaurant ever again.

We were disappointed to see we were charged a service charge for the chef. They certainly deserve a nice tip but on top of that we also tipped the waitstaff. The meal prices should include the upcharge. The food was tasty but this time is was oily..chef used a bit too much for our tastes. The presentation & overall taste of the food was excellent. The chicken was very moist, scallops & lobster done perfectly.

My boyfriend and I used to come here a lot before the pandemic, cuz it was good sushi for cheap, and the waitresses provide great service. After they opened back up, they raised their prices, and the quality went down. Cleanliness also seems to be an issue. We had a busy day, and wanted some quick sushi so we went to Sogo. When I got the bill, there was an automatic 18% “service charge”. When I asked the waitress what it was, she literally described to me what a tip was. So they have an 18% forced tip, and also ask for a tip on top of that… after raising their prices, lowering the quality, and forcing tips while asking for more tips, will not be returning any time soon. Really sad

We love hibachi so we decided to give this location a go. It had good reviews. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable as we sat so low the counter was up to our chest. But the server was pleasant, drink was delicious, chef was great and the hibachi really good. However the roll I got did not seem fresh. The plate looked like it came out of the fridge as if they had made up a bunch of California rolls for the night to pull out as needed.
My real issue was with the bill. We tipped the chef $5. Then got the bill. For my 2 younger kids and me, it was $102. They added a $14+ service charge to the bill. I asked what it was for but I couldn't really understand him. I did hear 3% goes to the chef. So I tipped the chef and now there is a service charge. I felt bad but I only gave the server $5 because I assumed part of that service charge went to her..... I will not be going back. I can't afford that kind of bill.

First time at Sogo and we were disappointed. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back. I gave it 3 stars only for the effort of the cook and server who have tried to provide good service. Hibachi food was disappointing: they use margarine instead of butter which makes everything very oily leaving a fatty aftertaste, salad was made with Mayo or mayo based dressing and not the typical Japanese style dressing, sauces very “tasteless”. It was alot of “cheep food” at about $50 per person and it was not the quality that I would expect from a Japanese restaurant. Cleanliness issues were obvious and unacceptable to be so obvious at the beginning of the work day as we were the first customers in: cooks outfit was visibly soiled; he did not wear gloves; tea cups had visible tea stains from previous uses; toilets were dirty (not cleaned for many months). I have been to several nice Japanese/Hibachi restaurants prior to this one. Therefore, I have a good sense of what a good hibachi food is. This one might have potential, but needs to adjust quality, use of ingredients and cleanliness. Hopefully they will.

Absolutely delicious! Even the soup and salad (which I rarely enjoy enough to eat at other Asian restaurants) water award-winning. Only wish the Tempura shrimp want ruined in panko and just straight tempura like the veggies, but still cooked perfectly and very good! The sauces were fantastic. Waitress was wonderful. Check your receipt; 18% "service fee" automatically added (on menu it appears only charged for hibachi, but it's on all orders). I always tip 20% for good service so left a few bucks extra.

Have too admit I was a gentleman because when it came too extra rice, noodles, meat I don't share. This time ladies first. Otherwise food was good. Except cook wasn't giving shots like Sho-Gun. Love that guy! Food was great though. Very friendly atmosphere and everyone at all the tables had fun. Great place too go.

I usually love the food but tonight it was just off. I wouldnt ever leave a review eitjer but it was bad enough tonight that i felt i had to. I ordered the filet and scallop hibachi to go. The lettuce was starting to rot. I could tell the soup was the very bottom if the pot. The meat was over salted. The shrimp was overcooked. There were three and a half scallops and the entire thing had a fishy smell. Idk if ill be ordering again.

This is by far the worst habachi experience I had. The waitress was extremely inattentive and did not rectify the problem with a drink she made that had the wrong ingredients.
The food was subpar and sevice was horrible. Try Kobe or Plum Garden!

Food was good, large portions, service was excellent. People in the hibachi section looked like they were having fun. Gave it four stars because one entree was heavy on the salt and the decor left some to be desired. Sesame shrimp was pleasing and the fried rice was well seasoned. Cool spot!

Ugh, the place was filthy, staff was slow, the service stunk, the portion was smaller than I expected, the chef gave away some of my food, they "ran out of my drink choice," and the wrong items were put on my check!!!!
I dont think I'll be back!!!
So unfortunate... we were there to celebrate a birthday and we all left disappointed!

I went there 2/26 with my husband for date night. We arrived at 6 after calling ahead. We were told there’d be no wait if we sat in dining opposed to hibachi. We were immediately seated which was nice but we waited over 30 minutes to be GREETED by our server. No hello, I’ll be right with you, NOTHING! I had to go up to the hostess and ask her to grab the server JUST so we could get water. Our food came out fast but it was wrong. The server switched up our steak orders. I was able to still eat mine but my husband did not. $30 plate to waste. We received a 10% discount but honestly the experience was so trash we didn’t care. The food would’ve been great if they got it correct. Terrible service. Maybe only go for takeout but even with that, Sunny Hibachi on Dewey would’ve been better.
