I recently visited Wabi Nori to celebrate my mom’s 60th birthday! It was an unforgettable experience! The service was exceptional from the moment we walked in. The hand rolls were fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious.
What really stood out was how they went out of their way to make my mom feel special on her big day. They made sure she felt celebrated throughout the night. Highly recommend this spot for both the amazing food and the warm, welcoming atmosphere!”

Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at Wabi Nori with a friend, and it was an exceptional experience. The minimalist yet stylish ambiance set the perfect tone for a cozy dinner. We started with their signature hand rolls, which were as fresh as they come--crispy seaweed, perfectly seasoned rice, and the freshest cuts of fish. My personal favorite was the tuna hand roll, but every bite was a treat. The flavors were well-balanced, and the texture of the fish melted in your mouth. The service was top-notch. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and gave great recommendations without being overbearing. What I loved most was the vibe--whether you're catching up with friends or looking for a low-key date spot, Wabi Nori has an inviting atmosphere that's laid-back but still refined. If you're a sushi lover in NYC or just looking for a new spot to check out, I highly recommend giving Wabi Nori a visit. It's a true gem in Lower Manhattan! Special thanks to the host Yigit and his team for fast and friendly service!

This place was absolutely amazing. The ambience, the staff, and the FOOD. Every sushi roll we had was phenomenal. My favorites were the yellowtail and spicy tuna. Drinks were so good, I wanted to order more and I’m usually a one drink girl lol - run, don’t walk to this restaurant. Definitely recommend

Such an impressive new handroll restaurant! The space is modern and gorgeous with top tier service. We loved the crispy rice so much we got two rounds of it! The cocktails are beautiful and tasty and the music is great. We loved the fun take on all the handrolls, it really stands out from other handroll spots and makes it such a fun experience. Could not recommend this spot enough! Such high quality food and service. Omakase in the back opening soon too! We will definitely be coming back

New hand roll bar in a really happening part of Manhattan. With so many restaurants to choose from, this one really stands out. The vibes are great for date night or a girls night out. Awesome cocktails made by bartender Nick and fresh handrolls made by Drew. All in all, service and ambiance were a yes for me! Will def be back.

I thought this place was going to be good because of the rating I got catfished . I usually go to Kazu Nori but I want to try something different ams has great ratings and reviews was a very bad choice. The fish isn’t good quality and the sauces over powers the cheap fish. I even got a piece of O-Toro which I love!!!! This was the most disappointing tasting of O-toro I ever had. My bill was double of what I pay at Kazu nori and I left disappointed. They did a great job designing a good atmosphere, now find a better fish supplier and take away the sauce.

Got food poisoning right after eating here,
fish quality is low. If you’re into taking pictures of your food instead of eating it, then this is the place for you. Zest has better quality fish and its less expensive.

Just had an unforgettable & incredible dinning experience at @ 🍣 absolutely a hidden gem, a new HandRoll Bar in NYC 🌃
Compared with Sushi or Sashimi, I LOVE hand-rolls. Not surprised, they were fresh, flavorful, delicious with crispy seaweed, seasoned rice and perfect size.
Do I need to talk more about the Tiramisu?! Creamy, lightly sweetened with coco powder.
The vibe & the service were top-notch with modern and gorgeous atmosphere. Definitely will come back with friends agin 💯

Heard about this place on social media and made a reservation for me and my friends visiting. Immediately, the hostess showed us exceptional service and was extremely accommodating and welcoming. She really made our whole night. On top of that, management was attentive and made sure our drinks were full. The hand rolls are good priced and so delicious. Definitely one of the best hand roll bars in the city.

A nice gem and addition to the neighborhood. Came here on a Saturday night looking for hand rolls and this place hit the spot! We sat at the counter, started with some cocktails, and order their hand roll sets. Food, drinks, ambiance, and service were excellent!

We had a great experience at Wabi Nori Handroll Bar. The food was excellent – everything tasted delicious, and the atmosphere was intimate.
That said, we shared two key pieces of feedback with management:
1. Pacing: The timing of the courses was inconsistent. Two appetizers came out in quick succession, followed by a long wait for the third. When the handroll course began, the pacing was sporadic with inconsistent gaps – some very short, others quite long.
2. Consistency: The handrolls prepared by different chefs varied noticeably in proportions of rice to fish.
That being said, the food was very tasty and the fish was incredibly fresh. Highlights for us included the soft shell crab and the blue crab handroll, both of which were truly outstanding.
Overall, we enjoyed the meal and hope to see these operational details smoothed out because the food quality is truly impressive.

Not worth the price. The nigiri had odd combinations of flavor. Fish tasted off. Pickled ginger was also off — as if they added a ton of sugar. Don’t order the shishitos — you’ll simply be eating oil.

Had the pleasure of celebrating a friend birthday at Wabi Nori yesterday, you could see they put a lot of effort in the overall experience. The place is gorgeous and intimate.
the food was very good, fresh, flavorful, 10/10.
and the service was unbelievable!
It was our first time there, Shereen was lovely, she knew every little detail about the menu and helped us choose pretty much everything we ordered. She and the rest of the staff made sure we were enjoying our dinner at every step. They had the best and rare combination of making sure we’re all good all throughout our meal without us feeling like they’re hovering.
I’ll 100% be back. Highly recommend!

WORST. SERVICE. EVER. Don’t even bother wasting your time here. And as if the service wasn’t bad enough, the seaweed was so chewy you could hardly take a bite into your handroll. Save yourself the trouble and go to Kazunori instead.

Visited 3 months ago
Really wanted to like this place, but it falls short, especially for a ~$100 meal for 2 ppl. TLDR the fish was not fresh on a Friday night, the nori was completely soggy probably because it sat before it was brought out, and the pieces were small for what you you pay. A place like Kazunori will give you a lot more bang for your buck and at least the nori is crunchy. A place like Nami Nori will toast and wrap their nori properly if you're not seated at the bar, so it doesn't get soggy.
The group also has a lot to just learn about how hand rolls are eaten. The whole meal, the handrolls were presented in a suboptimal way where we had to turn the holder every time, so we could access the rolls ergonomically. It's such a small thing, but demonstrates lack of thought about presentation.
Also if you're sitting at the tables instead of the bar, the wall-side seats are incredibly high and the table low, it's such a weird uncomfortable feeling. If you're trying to scoot into the wall seat or have some privacy with your date, good luck because the tables are about 1 foot apart too. The ambiance otherwise is great, good mood lighting, it's just these tables that ruin it.

Read about this on instagram and came here for dinner. Made reservations for a table but was told that was not available so 3 of us set at the bar which was hard to enjoy together. The waitress was a mess. She made mistakes with the order and had to be asked a few times to get the same item for us. The hand rolls are nothing special. The fish was fresh but the roll had only rice and fish with no complement of other items we are used to in a hand roll. The Nori was crispy so that was nice. Drinks were OK but alcohol content in them was short. Overall nice atmosphere and happening on a Saturday night but lots of other great hand roll spots out there with more options.

Came in after 10 on a Saturday, place was about 3/4 full, lively with EDM music. Food and drinks unique and scrumptious. Ask for Hannah as your server, she will makes dinner a entertainment experience with great comedic energy!

Food is good, but not impressive. Doesn’t match the 4.9 rating that attracted me here.
Chutoro I ordered was lower quality, not fatty at all. Rice was hard in one of the handrolls. Cocktails are great! Great music choice, tables are a little too close together and noisy, but great decor and vibes at the bar.
Overall, wouldn’t come again but not regrettable.

Would recommend over and over if I were asked. I have never been treated with the amount of love snd respect that the staff here has treated me with. I always come to see Nick Chang, the bartender. He is a dear, always taking care of me and my loved ones whenever I come by. Plus he makes the most banging cocktails I have ever tried! Just ask for an espresso martini or a side car. Would recommend to anyone in my life. Thank you Nick for everything you do! The hard work you put in is seen day in and day out. Ask for Nick if you see him, treat him nice though, hes not like anyone you will meet!

Genuinely confused on how much hype and great reviews this place has. I really wanted to like this place but it was a huge miss. First and foremost, I booked the reservation to be seated at the dining room (a table) not a bar. Of course, my friend and I were seated at the corner of the bar right in front of the kitchen door and blasting AC. Thank god I brought a jacket.
The drink I got tasted terrible and for $17 you’d at least expect some flavor. I believe it was called Japanese dream (first drink on the cocktail menu)
The karage chicken tasted like an oil fryer. I’m not sure how or why they serve something so bland. The crispy rice tuna was the only decent dish but even so, not the best I’ve had.
Hand rolls - They put so much rice into the roll it’s actually pretty funny. The scallop tasted bland, the unagi was fried? Why are we frying unagi it tasted like oil. The tuna was sliced terribly.
The one and only tiramisu dessert they have on the menu was soup. I could have picked up the cup they served it in and drank it - no need for spoons at that point.
If you’re someone who has been to fine dining restaurants or even someone who’s been to a place such as Kazunori or Sugarfish, please save yourself the time and don’t fall for the hype.

Wabi Nori for the kind of sushi experience you can only get in New York ! Ambiance is perfectly dialed in from the moment you walk in. Tonight was my first time and I was blown away by the attention to detail. From the service to the serve-ware, the lighting and music setting the perfect mood, and of course the incredible menu. Beautiful presentation on the food and drinks, clean delicious flavors. Especially love their Espresso Martini and Toast Trio. This is an instant NYC classic !

Atmosphere was great and definitely a great spot for a first date, etc. The food itself was okay, you would think since it is a hand roll bar they would kind of slice up the hand rolls and make them more creative. The fish itself was fresh and good, but there was definitely a lot of room to work with as far as making it more unique.
The other thing I wasn’t a huge fan of is that they bring your hand rolls one at a time. So if you order a set of four, they will bring it out one at a time. Maybe it is a personal preference, but I’d like to mix and match trying them all at once. Overall fair experience!

They really impressed me! The handrolls were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly crafted. The cocktails are worth the trip alone—especially the Japanese Dream. Recently visited Wabi Nori, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots! The handrolls were absolutely incredible—fresh, flavorful, and made with top-quality ingredients - perfectly seasoned rice and crispy nori that held it all together.
But what really took the experience to the next level were the cocktails. We tried the Japanese Dream and the Matcha Gimlet, and both were outstanding. The Japanese Dream was light, refreshing, and had this perfect balance of sweetness and citrus. You could tell the bartender, Axel, is a master at what he does — he crafted each drink with such care and precision, making the entire experience that much more special.
The atmosphere there was cozy and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring everything was perfect from start to finish. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Wow 👌. Can I say this is the new hot spot. Packed on a Tuesday night. 10 star drinks. Phenomenal food. This place changed the way I think about sushi. Everything was delicious. The service was impeccable. Yigit & Ellie and the bartender went above & beyond. The drinks were fabulous. Oaxaca sunset and White Tiger. The Crispy rice tuna is a must. The soft shell crab 🦀 to die for. Garage was a generous portion & devine and priced well. Our sushi rolls exetra were the best I've ever had. Hojicha tiramisu is a must as it is the best fusion dessert and agenours portion too.

Gorgeous modern decor, imaginative drinks, delicious food and it all reasonably priced. Service is impeccable. Get the crispy rice appetizers—best I’ve had. All of the hand rolls (think sushi taco not traditional take out rolls) were balanced, fresh and so good! Every bite was perfect. I can’t wait to go back! 10/10.

The fish didn’t seem as fresh as some of the other hand rolls places I’ve tried. The service was also pretty slow, not sure if this was because it’s new and they’re working out the kinks.
Visited 4 months ago
It’s clear everyone giving raving reviews has been influenced by the restaurant. I’ll start with the one positive: the spicy tuna handroll. Everything else about our experience was a complete disaster.
The glasses and water: The glasses were filthy, and there were seeds floating in the flavored water. I left dehydrated because I refused to drink it.
The service: While they’re trying their best, their best simply isn’t good enough. They are severely understaffed, to the point that we waited 15 minutes in between every handroll. The same guy who greeted us at the door was later squeezing avocado out of a tube onto the appetizers. Clearly, they have no clue what they’re doing and have no business in this space.
The food: Vile. The salmon handroll came with a neon green guacamole paste squeezed out of a tube, which was completely off-putting. The scallop roll didn’t taste good, the unagi was fried and tasted only of fryer oil, and the crab roll was synthetic and shouldn’t be served to anyone.
The ambiance: The fake plants make the place feel cheap, and the covers over the AC units are hideous. They also blasted afro-house music at max volume throughout our whole meal. Can’t someone enjoy Japanese cuisine without feeling like they’re at a nightclub?
The entire operation gives off the vibe of a Russian money-laundering scheme. If you’re curious how they got so many 5-star reviews and influencers hyping them up, they’ve most certainly paid for it. Definitely avoid the trap of coming here.

The waiters here love this business and are happy to share what they cherish about Wabi Nori. The foos we had was fresh and enjoyable, some traditional foods and some are their original.

Rest of reviews on here were clearly posted by influencers involved in restaurant’s recent opening.
My partner and I arrived at our reservation time, only to be seated 45 min later. Once seated, had to ask for a menu since staff was clearly overwhelmed and understaffed. One of two cocktails ordered finally served about an hour into dining experience. By 10pm restaurant was out of dessert and most popular cocktails. Had to also repeatedly ask for water refill. Hand rolls and crispy rice were good but definitely overpriced for quality and portion. Heavy on the rice.
Overall would not recommend given very poor and unorganized service. Place has potential if staffing issues are improved.

Great ambiance, friendly staff, tasty food! A bit too much rice to meat ratio on the rolls. They were out of dessert. Wasabi was a bit dry.
Visited 4 months ago
Fun place, low ROI on quality and quantity. Too little fish, too much rich. Fish is chopped up/mushed so you can barely taste it. Wagyu was $20, meat so small you can barely taste it. Slow service, 20min lull between the first 2 handrolls and the remaining 3. Has potential, but too expensive for what it is. Get real sushi instead.

Amazing food, staff, and prices. 10/10. Will definitely be coming back here as a regular. We had the 6 hand roll set, spicy tuna crispy rice, and shishito peppers!

Nowe miejsce w Lower East Side, zaczęli z przytupem.

I dined at wabi nori on friday 9/27 and had such an upsetting experience that I felt I needed to share as I took the time to think about the situation to cool down and reflect but even after a few hours of thinking about it, i realized the way my friend and i were treated was so poorly that it didnt feel right to stay silent.
First of all, my res was at 7:30. I showed up with my friend at 7:40 and we were seated at 7:55. I ordered the crispy tuna rice app and my friend and i each ordered the 5 handroll set. The service was quite slow which we didnt mind bc we were having a good time. However, we had a movie to catch so after handroll 2/5 we asked the waiter if we could pay in advance so as soon as we finish we could leave instead of waiting for the check. So we paid and continued with our meal. After handroll 3/5, the waiter came back to us and asked if we were done bc there was another party and we told him we didnt even get all our food yet. The waiter was noticeably gesturing to the guy making the handroll to speed it up which we thought was a little off putting as he obviously wanted us to leave but we still had 2 more handrolls to go. Then, right as we got served our 5th handroll, the same waiter came back and told us we had to leave bc there was another party. His tone was very rude and he demanded we leave even when we tried to explain that we just got our handroll. The service was slow and we were patiently waiting for our food yet the waiter acted like we were in the wrong and told us we had to leave. I was honestly caught off guard by his treatment and felt really upset by it as my friend and i did nothing wrong and we were even trying to leave quickly as we had a movie to catch but was just waiting for our handrolls to come out. In total, we were only sitting at the bar eating for an hour for our appetizer and main course and the only reason it took that long was bc the courses came out pretty slowly. Also, 1 hour isnt a long time for dinner, if anything thats on the shorter side. The crispy rice spicy tuna was yummy! The other handrolls were fine.
The waiter had glasses and a european accent. I would not come back bc of the poor treatment i experienced. I was really excited to try this new restaurant but was disappointed in the end.

Sushi was disappointing considering the price. Also, don’t fall for their water scam!
When we got there, we waited around 5 minutes until I’d asked to see a menu. The waiter said ok but first asked if we’d like sparkling or still water. We’d said still. The waiter poured us water from a fancy looking bottle then we got to see the menu… only to find the water bottle was 8$. I’d told the waiter that we weren’t interested in the water if it was the same one on the menu and they threw a fuss because they’d already opened it. I argued that she didn’t let us see the menu before making that decision. Thankfully the manager came over, took the bottle and apologized. However, we noticed others getting tap water, so clearly that was an option the whole time.

This place is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! From the atmosphere, to the staff, to the drinks and of course, the food, this place is seriously a GEM! I love a good hand roll bar and this one levels up. They have a full bar with amazing drinks. I had a matcha mint gin drink that was a 12/10! We also had amazing appetizers. My favorite was the soft shell crab. We also had the 6 course hand roll set. I loved the scallop and lobster. The add on toro hand rolls were to die and they had a miso cod hand roll that was UNREAL! I’ve never had one of those before and it was truly incredible. This place is a must go and I couldn’t recommend it more. Shoutout to the best chefs- Carlos & Drew! 🫶🏼🍣

I heard about wabi nori at home in Los Angeles- and everything about the restraunt exceeded my expectations. The vibes were out of this world- such an asthetic place. Sometimes the decor of a restaurant disguses bad food- this is not the case here. We started with the Matcha Gimlet & Saturn. These cocktails were both complex in the flavor profile yet not overwhelming- perfect for someone trying to open up their palette to new flavor profiles. Yigit is welcoming and helpful- as well as accomidating- one of the guests in our party had a dietary constriction that was easily managed. Axel & Ellie were extremely personable - they recommended the crab handroll & shishito peppers were the best I have had- and I am a big sushi girl. If I could come back daily- I would!! A must go to restraunt in the lower east side!! 12/10

Wabi Nori is a hidden gem on Essex Street, fabulous cocktails, atmosphere, presentation and most importantly, unmatched flavors. Great for an upscale dinner or date night spot. Staff was so attentive and thoughtful, answering every question we had and eager to help personalize our dining experience. Will be back soon! My favorite dishes were the soft shell crab, and salmon and tuna hand rolls, but I think it’s hard to go wrong here.

We had a fantastic meal at Wabi Nori. My favorites were the salmon and tuna hand rolls and the soft shell crab, and I had their rendition of a mojito which was both boozy and delicious. The owners and wait staff were all very friendly, welcoming, and happy to tell us about their dishes and story. The presentation of the food and atmosphere clearly were given a lot of attention to detail. Great for a nice night out!

Wabi Nori delivers a top-tier sushi experience that’s hard to beat. The sushi is incredibly fresh, perfectly balanced, and bursting with flavor. Each piece feels like an art form, meticulously crafted with care. If you're a sushi lover, this spot will not disappoint.
But the highlight of the evening? The espresso martini. It’s hands down one of the best I’ve had, with a perfect blend of rich coffee and smooth liquor—ideal for winding down after a sushi feast.
Special shoutout to Nick, the bartender, who made the whole experience even better. His craft behind the bar is exceptional, and his hospitality is second to none. Kudos to Nick for taking Wabi Nori's drinks to the next level!
Also, thanks to Yigit for providing top-notch service and ensuring our experience was seamless from start to finish. Their attention to detail and warmth made the night even more memorable.
Highly recommended for sushi aficionados and cocktail enthusiasts alike.
