Best handrolls I’ve had in the city- much better than Kazunori, or others nearby. Attentive and friendly service incredibly fresh fish. Nice lively but cozy atmosphere.

I felt like a customer instead of just a number!almost don’t want to hype it up so I can still get in!

Everything about this place is just perfect. My wife and I went here for dinner on our anniversary. The restaurant itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed and decorated, and every dish we were served was outstanding. I particularly liked the toro, wagyu, and eel/foie gras nigiri, but there wasn't a single bite I didn't enjoy. To top it all off the staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. We would highly recommend to anyone!

Came in with two of my friends, each of us had their expectations surpassed by a lot. The service was well cared for and attentive. They were kind and timed everything perfectly and explained the dishes very well.

The food was amazing, fresh and you would tell it was high quality, the portions were perfect and they are not stingy on how much they put and they also do not use a lot of rice. I am highly impressed. The flavor of the miso, to evey handroll was exquisite. I will be coming here again and the pricing are quite well.

They even sang my birthday and the waiters wished me a happy birthday as well. Amazing, amazing. Please come and enjoy this fantastic restaurant.

This place changed my life. I savored every bite as I never wanted it to end. I will dream about this meal for the rest of time!

Chef Kai (I think he also goes by Kevin), the co-owner and head chef, is a gem of a human being. He is very kind, gentle, and generous! We chatted about his restaurant journey and how he came to co-own Sushiro. He told us that the fish gets delivered twice a week from Japan, along with some fish getting delivered or picked up locally. I recommend doing the omakase or trying to sit with Kai so you can meet him!

The fish is so fresh and the rice is perfectly seasoned. You know they care about quality when even the ginger is impeccable. We did the chef’s choice omakase which is 8 piece nigiri and 4 special handrolls for $98. I loved it so much I ordered my favorites in their handrolls version right after. I usually don’t love all types of fish, but the way they were seasoned and dressed made each one immaculate. All the sushi had just the right amount of seasoning to support while letting the fish shine. I highly recommend coming here before they blow up, because they definitely will. They only opened up earlier this year so it’s still fairly easy to get a same-day reservation or do a walk-in. My favorite pieces were the sable fish, the eel with foie gras, the king salmon, and the toro.

I sincerely thank everyone here for such a great experience. It was best sushi I’ve ever had and I will be sure to come back many times!

I’ve been to so many different omakases and sushi spots around NYC, but I think this has become my new favorite! There was so much food included in the sushiro omakase, I was happily waddling home. The sushi chef was so nice and attentive; he made sure every handroll was filled to the brim with fish and toppings. Would 100% recommend for date night or even a casual sushi dinner.

I have no words for how good this place is… each and every hand roll was literally incredible and the appetizers were just as good too! The scallop carpaccio in ponzu with tobiko was one of the best carpaccios i’ve ever had! My favorite hand rolls were the scallop with tobiko, salmon avocado, eel with foi gras and the monk fish liver hand roll! I’ve never had a monk fish liver hand roll and now I need one everyday!!!! The chefs here are anlso incredible and so talented and nice. The toro was super fresh too and the snow crab was out of this world. This place is a MUST GO and I hope everyone goes asap!!!!! The service was great. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. We got the chef hand roll selection for $88/set. It was eight hand rolls. The two appetizers were quite flavorful and delicate. The hand rolls were inconsistent. It may have just been the chef that we had that night, but some rolls were extremely plain and other roles were so salty. I almost wanted to spit it out, it was so much salt. There were a couple that were burning my nose so terribly from the amount of wasabi that he put on. The consistency of the hand rolls just were not there.

Visited 8 months ago

Sushi Experience №47

Carried a quick meal out and I liked that the seaweed had “wrappers” so that they didn’t get soggy from the hand roll contents. I tried the a la carte eel foie gras, kampachi, scallop, and toro hand rolls. All were solid options but the eel foie gras was probably the most special from the texture. Some of the hand rolls automatically come with wasabi inside so note that ahead of time if you don’t prefer to have it.

Great handroll flight, excellent service. Greta for a date night. Sit at the bar! Instead of getting served all your rolls at once you get them fresh one by one. Try the sparkling unfiltered sake. Next level. Atmosphere depends on how bright they decide to keep the lights but at its best, it can be sexy.

Does not live up to the “hype.” Long wait times, and the rolls are mediocre at best. This is exactly Nami Nori and you still have to manually remove the plastic from the rolls. More expensive than it needs to be. KazuNori takes the cake way over this place, just go to any of their locations.

Ordered the premium hand roll omakase.

Buckle up cuz it’s a lot of food! The quality was great.

They do ask you how you handle wasabi and I remember a couple had my nose on fire but if you know wasabi, it goes quick so wasn’t an issue. You can always say none or light on the wasabi.

The chef is very attentive to where you’re at with the meal as well as with your party. I was with 2 others and we were deep in convo but the chef matched our pace which was so kind - never felt rushed, always felt like we were being taken care of.

Recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a good handroll.

In general handrolls have more rice than fish so it’s a tad different than a sushi omakase - meaning don’t expect a 1:1 experience but it has its own uniqueness.

If I’m back in nyc, I’ll def hit this spot again.

Hands down the BEST sushi hand rolls I have ever tasted in my entire life of eating sushi. The place is very neatly put, smells good, and is very clean. The hosts and waitresses were super friendly and efficient. The chef I had was super friendly, funny and knowledgeable about letting me know what I was eating. I chose the premium option and my partner chose I believe the Sushiro omakase. We started off with miso soup and seaweed salad which were so good! I highly recommend getting sake and beer to pair with the sushi. Enjoy!!! You won't regret it ☺️

Sushiro Hand Roll Bar offers a lively atmosphere, but it can get quite busy. The fish is fresh, though there’s too much rice on the nigiri, which led us to skip 2-3 pieces from the omakase menu.

EXCELLENT. EXCELLENT. EXCELLENT. We had the omakase menu which surprised and delighted us. The junmai sake by the glass was so outstanding we got a bottle. Above all the Eel and Foie Gras hand roll absolutely stole the show. I don’t like eel or foie gras but I tried it and it was so good we added another to our order. The sable fish, fatty tuna and wagyu were also memorable dishes. All in all the food was spectacular and best of all? The service was humble , authentic and kind. Something I find rare in NYC. Best anniversary dinner.

Absolutely delicious handroll Sushi! I love the concept of sushi rolls and these are the most delicious, decadent creations I've had! Place is small but real cosy, sat at the bar and it was so amazing to watch the chefs at work. Each creation was explained as they handed us each piece. The taste was heavenly. Orgasme culinaire.

If you’re reading this just reserve and table and go. Don’t think. Went there for my 5 year wedding anniversary for lunch and it’s easily one of the best restaurants in NYC. Quality of the fish is Michelin star and the menu has everything you need without feeling overwhelmed. Super accessible hand rolls. Nothing too adventurous with many comfort options like spicy salmon etc. they made my wife and I feel very special and it’s one of those places that looks and tastes high end but makes you feel very relaxed. Service was pleasant and the overall ambience is super pleasant. Price is super reasonable, at this quality you expect omakase to be $120 per person but at $50! Unreal. Couldn’t have been nicer. Coming back with all my friends. They need to try this.

Came here to try their handrolls. Overall, very delicious. They keep their seaweed fresh so that your roll is extra crunchy upon consumption. They provided an abundant amount of toppings. However the rice wasn’t acidic enough for me. Was hoping the seaweed had more of a stronger nori taste so that the handroll had perfect harmony.

Was able to grab a last minute reservation for lunch right when it opened at 1pm. The interior decor is minimalistic and simple. I ordered the Premium set along with a carafe of Ozeki Classic. The set comes with an appetizer (hijiki salad) and 5 handrolls (kampachi, snow crab, salmon, scallop & toro). It was a great deal for the price given everything tasted fresh and clean. My favorite was the scallop handroll. It did have a wasabi kick at the end which I confirmed with the chef that the wasabi is mixed with horseradish which was a bit disappointing. But overall, it was a great experience and would love to be back to try their omakase.

Went on a Saturday for lunch, reservations needed as it was full. We had the regular and premium handroll combos, they both came with a seaweed salad. Overall, this was our favorite handroll sushi bar in NY (over Mari.ne and Katzunori) since Sushiro combines multiple flavors and textures into each handroll. Amazing experience overall, will come back. Our favorite rolls were the salmon avocado and tuna avocado.

Really liked the restaurant and the service was amazing. I didn’t give 5 stars though because I did notice a lack of attentiveness for my husbands sever shellfish allergy. We’ve eaten at a lot of high end sushi restaurants and they’ve always used different knives, boards, or mats to accommodate his allergies. We were also told shellfish allergies are quite common so places always knew how to be cautious, however, I did notice the chef (at the end of our orders but wanting to order more because we were hungry) didn’t change out his gloves when handling a handful of lobster meat and scallops, and then proceeded to touch the avocado, rice, fish eggs, etc . We did mention it to the maître d when placing our order, but I think they assumed since we didn’t order shellfish, it was ok. We had taken out my husbands épi pen to just reiterate the message, but was surprised when we saw the very sever cross contamination. Though I understand it’s the risk we take whenever we go out, I was disappointed as there were only 3 other diners at the time so assumed it would’ve been easier to manager the allergy. But again, that’s not necessarily their fault, we do tend to be more aware of the cross contamination than people who don’t have allergies, so I can’t really fault them. I do wish we would’ve eaten more because it was soo delicious! The service was so nice. The chef spoke with us and gave us suggestions for our next visit. The Maître d was very nice as well and ran after us when we forgot my husbands épi pen. I would definitely go back!

The food was delicious and the service was perfect. Every wait staff member was incredibly nice, thoughtful and went the extra mile offering us extra complimentary dessert for my mother in law (they had read the note on the reservation), offering to serve a cake we had brought, etc.

We would definitely come back — it was a very memorable dining experience, and I’d highly recommend it. Thanks again for making my MIL’s visit so special!

Lovely meal spoiled by strict and inconsistent timekeeping

Popped into this place on a whim leaving work and asked if they has a seat at the bar. Was told I had an hour; knowing nothing about this place, that seemed fine.

I ordered the 8 piece handroll omakase and a glass of sake. They brought out a seaweed salad starter that I probably had for 10 minutes before they offered the first fish. 3 other people at the bar and I were all chatting with each other and the chef. It was a nice evening. Then, fish number 7 comes out and the chef says "we have to hurry," besmirching the mood. I rushed down 7 and 8, and the check appeared immediately. I had to remind the host that dessert was included; he brought back a single piece of mochi with my credit card.

The whole reason I took the omakase and whatever sake the host recommended was because I wanted to be taken care of. It's not on me to babysit the clock at an omakase bar. After tax and tip it was $130, and I would have been totally content to spend that money if they were a little nicer to me at the end.

Instead, I felt like I was being chased out with a broom. Didn't get to enjoy the last two rolls, the mochi, or the second half of my sake. If there was a line out the door, that would be one thing; but when I left, more than half the seats were empty and nobody was waiting.

It went from "that was fun - I should bring people here!" to "maybe I'll give them another chance one day" over that last ten minutes. If they want to manage the clock that tightly, they need to orchestrate the whole meal to match. And when half the place is empty, they should do a better job taking care of the guests they already have, instead of shooing them away in favor of ones who might be coming soon.

The food was good however the service was terrible from beginning to end.

Once we were seated and ready to order, no one came to check on us until half an hour later. Thank god we waved someone down to place our order otherwise we would have been waiting longer. They also messed up our order.

My partner and I each ordered a set menu and it clearly states on the menu that it comes with an appetizer. We didn’t realize that they forgot our appetizers when I glanced to the tables around us having appetizers while I realized we looked like idiots twiddling our thumbs waiting really long for our main dishes.

Another thing that annoyed me was that someone came to refill my partners water cup and didn’t refill mine when it was just as empty and beside it.

I overheard the table next to us saying they were dissatisfied with the service as well since they ordered wine and the servers seem to have forgotten it.

A server came to try to excuse for it as us being on the waitlist is the reason wait is long. However, I didn’t mind waiting for my seat as I’m aware I will have to wait if I am on the waiting list. The problem wasn’t waiting for my seat it, it was the terrible service when I was seated. I’ve seen busier places with less staff more attentive than this place.

This place has a lot of potential and I’m sure the servers are good people however it seems the service is lacking and not consistent.

Went for dinner and had an amazing meal. They do not over complicate any of the dishes here truly relying on great quality fish paired perfectly with simple garnishes. The service was impeccable, we had to wait a couple minutes for our table (nothing by NY standards) and while we waited were offered complimentary sake, then when we were sat were given complimentary appetizers and free drinks as an I’m sorry for making you wait (not necessary at all) but beyond appreciated! We then sat and spoke with our chef at the sushi counter Jay who was charming and funny and prepared every dish to perfection. One of my favorite new sushi spots in the city!!!

Sushi rolls were fresh and tasty. We purchased two premium handroll sets, however, it wasn’t enough so ordered 2-3 more handrolls. Service was good. We found the sushi a bit overpriced, overall.

My wife and I were looking to eat sushi when we happened to walk by Sushiro and decided to walk in. Boy are we glad we did. The sushi is not traditional, but the sushi is made with a respect for Japanese sushi and the ingredients are excellent. The rice, nori and shari are what you would expect in Japan. We will go again.

Wow! The best omakase experience I think I have ever had. Chef and the WHOLE CREW are so attentive and make the experience really incredible. The freshness of each piece really shines through. I was so sad when it was over and time to leave.

This place is a MUST visit!!!

I rarely leave reviews, but I am compelled to write my first. In short, one of my favorite sushi spots: the quality of the fish is incredible, the creativity and attention to detail in its preparation + presentation, the kindness of the staff, and the all-at-once casual yet elevated ambiance is hard to over-recommend.

I have been here twice now. The first, I came solo on a busy Friday night and the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating - I was quickly seated at the chef's counter and served by Chef Kevin. I opted for the "premium" (5 handrolls: scallop, salmon, kampachi, snow crab, toro) and each was a true gustatory delight. What I was most immediately struck by was Chef Kevin's incredible skill, attention, and hard work. This was a busy service with a full house of patrons and my handrolls came quickly and perfectly made. Though we didn't speak much, his kindness and gratitude for my business was clear. He served me several extra pieces, each incredible, and I also ordered the A5 wagyu handroll which needs no further description (those who know, know).

I asked one of the other staff more about Chef Kevin and I learned he is the head chef and had worked 20+ straight days. Seeing how hard he worked during this service, I was unsurprised and knew I wanted to support this business.

I came back 3 days later with my girlfriend, specifically requesting to be seated at Chef Kevin's area at the counter, and opted for the omakase experience. Incredibly, the experience was even better than the last. The omakase has many pieces not on the menu and we were both totally blown away.

It was a slower night and we had more of a chance to chat up Chef and the staff. These are exactly the kind of people you want to see succeed and they have won my business many times over. Looking forward to many more evenings here. Do yourself a favor: GO!

If you're reading this stop looking for anywhere else to go.

I wasn't familiar with hand rolls and was looking for sushi, but was lucky enough to give this place a shot.

Not only are the hand rolls masterful, but the service really is 5 star and the atmosphere is a great break from the noise of the city.

The place was spotless. Not even a piece of paper was left on a counter or table for a second. Why does this matter? Attention to detail.

The ruthless attention showed up in the hand roll construction, the conversation with staff, and the pace of the meal.

Stop reading this and go get the chef select and put your worries for an amazing experience away.

This newly opened gem is a sushi lover’s dream come true. From impeccable service to a master sushi chef, every detail is crafted to perfection.

🍣 We recently savored their Premium set - scallop, Kampachi, Toro, Salmon, and Snow crab. Each handroll was a symphony of flavors that left me craving for more! 😍 And oh, the ala carte options! Eel foie Gras and Hokkaido uni stole the show with their decadence.

👨‍🍳 Shoutout to the incredible chef who turned every ingredient into a culinary masterpiece! 🙌 If you’re a sushi enthusiast like me, Sushiro is a must-visit spot for an unforgettable dining experience!

Highly highly recommend this handroll spot - amazingly fresh fish paired well with interesting flavors. At $48 for the premium set, which includes an appetizer of seaweed salad, it was well worth it and much better than some popular handroll spots that start with a K. Saw some people get the omakase and that looked amazing, can't wait to try that next! Service was also super friendly and attentive.

This place immediately feels like a staple. The space is clean, warm, and inviting. The staff is friendly, patient, and knowledgeable of the menu. The omakase was amazing- 2 appetizers, 5 piece nigiri, 4 handrolls, and a surprisingly great dessert! It was both generous in portions and the quality was top tier. Honestly, we didn’t feel as if anything was lacking from the meal or service, and learning they had just opened two weeks earlier made the experience all the more impressive. This spot is definitely worth a visit (or a few)!

For a hand roll spot, Sushiro is one of the best. Unlike other hand roll restaurants I’ve been to, the chefs were light-handed on the sauces and seasoning, allowing me to enjoy the flavor of the fish. We ordered the classic set plus a few a la carte. My favorite was the scallop roll - the creamy Hokkaido scallop contrasted nicely with the bitter zest (of lemon or yuzu? I couldn’t tell).

One of the chefs was kind enough to make us an extra roll on the house! The charred flavor went so well with the fatty fish, and he was very light handed on the truffle salt allowing me to actually enjoy, rather than be overwhelmed by the truffle flavor.

The service staff were slightly awkward, checking in too frequently in an ill-timed way. Not the end of the world. If you can appreciate the American style hand roll experience, this is a solid spot in my opinion.

The omakase is a steal at $78 with 7 generously sized hand rolls and an app. Chef Kai was extremely flexible with our request to serve less rice in our rolls and attentive to our additional needs.
