Sushi on Jones is New York’s omakase bar, offering traditional 12-piece tastings for $68. At West 10th Street, Sushi on Jones offers indoor dining, Izakaya menu and the best of the traditional Japanese experience for the New York market. From uni to toro to botan shrimp to wagyu and beyond, we serve only the best cuts from the best fish and wagyu available.
Had Sushi on Jones years ago. Came back yesterday with my boyfriend and had a great dinner there. Fish are fresh. I had other omakase "on the budget" before, like Sushi by Bou, Sushi M and Shinn East. I had to say Sushi on Jones fish is better than the ones I named. The fish may be from the same supplier or market, but the way to cut or treat the fish is important for sashimi.
I also like how the chef pay attention to detail. He would take the right amount of to make the pieces he is ready to serve us, instead of leavingnit out. This way, throughout the course the rice is kept warm.
For a $65, 12-course omakase that comes with A5 Wagyu and O-toro, whatelse to ask for?
Great experience here and will return for another lunch or dinner.

Came here after the lunch rush around 2pm and had the whole restaurant to myself which actually made for a great omakase experience. Chef was very informative with each sushi, and I thought it was great value considering you’re getting fatty tuna and a5 wagyu as part of the course. Added on a handroll for a delicious finish.

What a fall! It used to be so different when I last went there 3 years ago. The vibe, service and quality of food have all fallen, albeit less for the latter. The omakasse chefs are nice guys and aim to please but you can tell the quality of fish and produce has gone down.
The server was nice but the manager was so annoying and kinda rude asking us to hurry up even tho the place was empty and we were well below our 90 Min limit.

The vibe here was not what I expected at this reasonable priced roll and sashimi bar but hear me out - It's not a bad thing.
At 60+ per person, I need to temper my expectations.
Since the motto here is "less talk mote eat" I will get straight into it about the omakase since I avoided the rolls.
First off the music - Fergie/Black Eyed Peas? Interesting choice of music 😅. Then again I have had the most amazing sashimi in the basement levels of Kyoto Station in Japan, so who am I to judge? It's a ... Vibe? 😆
We ordered beer - two Sapporos and after a long day's work, having it barely cold was not the vibe. We drank it anyways but still ... A cold mug instead of just the can would have been nice. Ah well. Consequences. I regret not asking so that's on me!
The Food (CIRCA 12-2023)
Fluke/Flounder - smooth, not bad but nothing that wowed me.
Scallop - nice.
Arctic Trout - interesting but for some reason I expected this to be the more salty of the bunch.
Squid - not too chewy, and not my favorite. It was a bland love affair. I wanted to love it but we just couldn't commit to one another in the end. So no.
Sea bream - toasty! I wanted more sauce on here but I wouldn't dare ask.
Salmon - flavor!! Okay making this like an Everything thing Bagel with flakes of salt on it - this is the wow piece of the course. They should keep this no matter how much the menu changes seasonally.
Yellowtail - truffle salt!! Also good but the salmon is still king IMO.
Uni + Wagyu + Truffle - This did not melt in my mouth the way I thought it would but it was still great! It's not Kobe but it was good. I wanted it to be better than salmon hence why it was the only piece I took a video of.
Sweet Shrimp - ok, it beats out the squid in my mind, but not by much.
Fish Eggs - juicy! Fresh.
Eel - not bad.
The thing about omakase in NY is that it will never live up my ridiculous standards. I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to Sashimi, Omakase, etc.

Been to this place years ago in the Bowery location. Came to this place today for a quick Omakase experience. $68 for 12 pcs. Which is pretty reasonable price but here’s why the one star. The fish they use for Omakase is CHEAP AND LEAN. The chef never ask us how is everything, how’s the food etc. He was preparing materials for later time and preparing other table’s food WHILE HE IS SERVING US Omakase. This is not even omakase, is just cheap sushi given to you one piece by one piece but charge you triple of the price of what it should be. Here’s are the photos, not one piece have uni. Lol. This is a joke. Could’ve get all that from a la carte for around $30?

The pricing seems reasonable for the amount of food you get. It’s a good value in both amount and quality for the amount of money. I think there are better omakase places in the area but they are higher price points. The staff is super super nice. Not sure what someone was talking about sitting for 2 hours while waiting for the 12 course. It’s a 45 minute sitting for both 12 and 20 course options. I’d say it was well paced and efficient.

Fantastic sushi bar in the West village!! Even if you are doing omakase, you gotta add an app or two, especially the crispy rice.
We had the young man with curly hair as our server: he is so fun and attentive, definitely elevated the entire experience! The sushi chefs at the counter are also extremely knowledgeable, and the sushi itself is, as mentioned previously, DE-LISH!

My friends and I had an amazing time at the W10 Sushi on Jones!!! The experience of sitting at the Omakase counter with the chefs and enjoying every delectable bite as it is prepared right in front of your eyes makes for an unforgettable experience. The chefs are so talented being as busy as they get and still being able to slice the fish and make everything for you the moment it’s ordered. This is what makes their sushi so delicious aside from their premium fish selection. We had such an amazing time but there was only one issue with our server, probably a miscommunication or at least I’d hope it is. I was there as part of a large groups for a girls night birthday celebration and our server failed to let us know that the tip was included which is perfectly fine but since we didn’t know my friend who used her card to pay added 20% tip on it and the server looked at the check, thanked her and disappeared. A few minutes after the General Manager came and she advised that the tip is already included and asked if we were aware, we said no and she was extremely apologetic, stated the server should have made us aware of it and immediately refunded it. She gave us her card and all receipts showing the proper sum and all I can say is that on top of such an amazing meal and experience knowing that the person in charge is so professional and ethical was the cherry on top. My friends and I were so grateful for the honesty and would go back anytime!! In a city with a million restaurants this is a gem and I loved it, just hope to never have the same server again. She thought a double tip was ok when she disappeared after taking our orders, the only people checking on us was the manager and a male server who was great! Not going to let one bad seed ruin the night. Thank you to everyone there for a meal that blew my mind and for showing us a great time!!!

I’ve eaten at sushi on jones’ old location in the Bowery as well as their restaurant in LES. Personally I enjoyed the Bowery location the most so when it closed it was shocking to me. I went to this location last Thursday for dinner and it was great. I had ordered a la carte and while all the food was spectacular I loved the salmon crispy rice. The perfect blend of soft fish and the crunchy rice actually made me giggle from joy. The servers were all very welcoming and fun, and while this is a smaller restaurant it gave a nice cozy and laid back atmosphere. I definitely recommend this location personally between the staff, their service and the amazing food!

Stopped in randomly one Tuesday after shopping in the area and had an amazing dinner. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable about sushi, I have been eating sushi for as long as I can remember, and having to travel around the world for work have had some of the best and worst sushi out there and this place is easily top 5! Not only does everything melt in your mouth (like the tuna crispy rice!!) you can taste the quality and for the reasonable price it feels like a steal! The manager Jenn I believe is her name, was so welcoming I felt like an old friend who’s been coming to this restaurant for years and you could see that with how happy the other patrons were. I thought the location was new or on the new side since I haven’t heard of them and finding out they have been here for a while and to me seems like a if you know about them, you know; I could have erased those horrible memories from lack luster sushi! The company needs to work on promoting the restaurant more/better because the food and staff here and beyond amazing. I have been telling all my friends about this restaurant and planning to come here again. (Still dreaming of the sushi and that tuna crispy rice!!)

Walked in randomly for a bite last Sunday and I cannot believe how great everything was!!! The menu is really interesting and not your typical sushi but it is creative and very well thought out from the fish to the smallest detail like toppings. The manager/ server was absolutely delightful explaining the menu in great detail and had extensive knowledge of the drinks and paired the perfect sake for my meal. I ended up eating more than I expected but I couldn’t help myself. I unexpectedly had an amazing meal and all around experience. In a city where people are anonymous and places impersonal it’s nice to run into somewhere that values their customers and I saw that by the few people that came in and the manager already knew their preferences and names. I can’t wait to come back and try the Omakase!!!

Great staff and great food! We visited Sushi on Jones West Village as a recommendation and had a great time. The Omakase bar made it fun to watch the chefs prepare the sushi, with a few especially delightful and creative pieces (Wagyu-uni nigiri and Truffled Toro Maki). The roasted mushrooms, Akami Crispy Rice and wagyu dumplings were great too. Will definitely be back.

This isn’t a true omakase experience. The pieces did not have any “Wow” factor. Sure, they were ok and fresh, but not for the price you pay. I was very disappointed in their 12 course menu as nearly every piece was either Lean, Boring, or a cheap cut of protein. Do yourselves a favor and go to any other sushi restaurant and order a-la-carte at a better price. I won’t be back, sorry sushi chefs!

Sushi on Jones hit all the high notes and took my taste buds on a delightful journey. The food is nothing short of exceptional, a testament to the skill and passion infused in every roll and nigiri. Their sushi, the star of the menu, features fresh, vibrant flavors that leave you yearning for more.
I must give special mention to Jennifer, the manager. Her leadership and dedication undoubtedly contribute to the restaurant's success. Her ability to orchestrate the dining experience seamlessly, ensuring every customer's needs are met with a smile, makes her stand out as one of the best restaurant managers in NYC.
The service team, under Jennifer's guidance, adds to the overall amazing dining experience – they're attentive, cordial, and exceptionally knowledgeable. You won't find any standard, rote interactions here; instead, you'll be treated to genuine, warm hospitality that'll make you feel at home.
The combination of unparalleled service and exceptional food cements Sushi on Jones as an absolute must-visit for sushi lovers and culinary adventurers. I am already looking forward to my next dinner there. Don't miss the opportunity to experience this gem in the heart of NYC.
Highly recommended!

Food was average for omakase, nothing bad but nothing outstanding. The service was fine but simple. The atmosphere didn’t really meet our expectations though. The music was super loud and vulgar (lots of swearing), the staff was chatting loudly with each other, and another customer brought her dog in and the staff was petting it (and I didn’t see any hand washing either) and letting it come around just past the entrance to the sushi counter. :/

Had dinner with a friend here and it was fantastic. Cozy place that was not busy and we were greeted warmly. Service was quick and our server was wonderful. The chef was grumpy and seemed irritated that we were eating at the countertop. It was a Friday night at 10pm! Made the entire experience a waste or money. It was a $500 bill and you get attitude and rushed out the door! Fully appreciate that it’s a timed seating if there are people waiting to come after you, but we were the last seating.
The food was very bland at best. There are so many amazing omakase places in the city! Very disappointed and will never go back….
Subpar food, grumpy chef, rushed service and very overpriced for the experience!

This place changed my perspective on Sushi! I originally declined an offer to meet up with my buddies for dinner here because I‘ve never considered myself a sushi person. They convinced me to give it try and I’m glad they did. This place checks all the boxes. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed, the food was exceptional, and the service was great. I came for the Wagyu burger (which was phenomenal) and stayed for the Sushi. I finally have a go-to sushi spot. Highly recommend for a fun night out.

The host was very approachable and welcomed guests as they rolled in, joking with regulars and infusing the atmosphere with joviality.
Huge props to the chef for their salmon roe roll. My partner is not a fan of roe but this was a perfect balance of briny and savoury.

Party of 2: This place has great and quick service, a lack of diversity in terms of its customers and loud so don’t recommend if you’re looking for intimacy but ultimately a great option for Japanese American fusion cuisine. One of the crispy rice dishes changed my life. The rolls melted in your mouth and most of the nigiri tasted wonderful with great hues of the sea. Thank you for your sacrifice fishies.

Another sushi restaurant with a nightclub aesthetic trying to do too much. Different mayos and wagyu (very unlikely it is genuine) invade the menu and nigiri AND sashimi were both topped with a sauce. They should stand alone. Also should be noted that nigiri orders are per piece (???).

One of my favorite spots for fast/fusion Omakase. Their menu is great and you can get a pretty decent amount/variety of sushi with that price. The manager there is always friendly and helpful and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a casual sushi experience under $80s.
In addition to the Omakase, they also have several special “fancy sushi” that you could add on. My favorite of all time is the Bug Mac with Uni, Wagyu and fish!

The sushi was ok but way overpriced. When the sushi comes as 1 piece per order at regular price, I expect at least the piece to be a little larger or outstanding. Neither was the case here. In fact the sushi pieces were even smaller than average (and I’ve been to hundreds of sushi places). The rolls menu is also very limited and mediocre at best. If you decide to go there, plan for a hamburger elsewhere so that you don’t starve

Not recommended. 12 pieces of bad quality where u will pay 86USD after tax and tips. The shari (rice) of the sushi is extremely bad, taste as rice done by me at home. For the same price in NY u will find better options as Shinn East, Nami Nori, between many others. To summarize the experience, 12 sushis were serves in leas than 15’, then u can imagine the rest…

I love sushi on Jones more every time I go. It has been a go to for pick up, but the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is cozy if you have time to stay for a meal. The ceilings are high and there is a great sushi counter if you are alone or just two. There is a great spot for a larger party at a table by the window. They are always playing up-beat music that is not too loud and lights that are warm and relaxing.
The menu has good variety of authentic and playful items without the typical Americanized "special rolls" that smother the fish. They serve really fresh high grade fish that they know how to let it speak for itself. As a former sushi chef, this is my go to for sushi in the West Village.

Do not eat here. My wife made a reservation for two. We’ve been many times pre covid and were excited to finally go back. Apparently during covid they expanded their space beyond the bar top. When we arrived they said our reservation was for a non bar table. It was freezing cold on this side of the restaurant and we wanted the bar top experience. When we informed the hostess that was what we wanted, she said that we couldn’t move and that if we left she would have to list as a “no show” and would maybe be charged $50.
We left and were charged the $50 dollar fee. When we called to complain they said it’s policy and if we didn’t want to get charged we would have needed to reschedule our reservation that day, however the hostess never offered us that option. Unbelievably poor customer service. We won’t be back.

As some other reviews have mentioned, it’s really strange and disappointing in how the sushi rice is not flavorful whatsoever and is served with the wrong texture/temperature.
Seeing as the rice is one of the most important parts of sushi, if you love good omakase, eat elsewhere. Unless you like bland sushi, which some people might?

Very solid omakase. If you notice any negative review is outside not seated at the bar. If you sit at the bar and get a reservation this is a great quality for value. Staff is great, they’ll explain to beginners in a polite way, we had one in our party, but also not poke in if you know what you’re doing.

My only, but big complaint is that the sushi is served with cold fish, straight from the fridge. Unfortunately that was a big letdown, it substantially changes the flavor and experience. Otherwise the quality was good.

Nice place and reasonably priced. Good quality ingredients but the fish on the sushi was directly from the fridge and very cold. That was a let down because the ingredients seemed to be good and with a bit more attention to the preparation it would be a clear 5 star sushi restaurant.

The omakase here is insanely good and you should definitely go. I did the 20 piece omakase and it was incredibly filling, be aware you need to eat fast here since you only have 45 minutes. My favorite piece was the arctic char, it was topped with some type of yuzu relish that was amazing. Each piece of fish comes with the perfect topping. I finished with the big mac which is a nigiri piece that has waguy beef, toro and uni. So glad we were able to try this place on our trip. Definitely give it a shot if you can.

Downgrading from 5 to 3 stars. Ate at the counter last night, had the 20 piece omakase for $120. 2/20 pieces were still frozen at the center, and 3/20 felt past best-date (i even had to spit one out, the octopus). I eat traditional sushi often, this was not up to par.
It is VERY fairly priced for an omakase, but nonethless there are better options out there at this price point (sushi teru nearby, or sushi dairo in east village for example).
Service was great however, and it is still a great takeout/pickup or delivery option so 3 stars overall.

Came for dinner with a friend. Definitely had better nigiri in the city but this is a good meal for the price. Highly recommend the kanpachi, artic char, and the eel. Those were my favorites. The wagyu piece I could have done without. Ordered the mixed veggie roll and what we got was not what was on the menu. Just cucumber and avocado. No mushrooms. So just be sure to ask if anything is out of stock in the kitchen when you order to make sure you get what is written.

Loved me some Marco. Food was good atmosphere was cool sitting outside in the village is always a treat OR an adventure. Service fast and on point. The EEL was amazing. That bathroom YEP Im talking about the bathroom because the fragrance and the music I wish I had my meal in there it was so cozy. LOL Yes Im talking about a bathroom. Im being picky on giving 4 only reason was the both outside was a bit cramp but Im a big girl Definitely worth going in having a meal and meeting Marco.

Food was good if you eat here take either the omakase menu and add some extra sides or sushi to your taste.
Or go for their a la carte highly recomend the maki + your own nigiri choices.

best sushi in the city — the scallop is to die for. everything else is always fresh and delicious. service is great, they’re super friendly and attentive.

A bit pricey, but to be expected, so that wasn't an issue. The Wagyu Tartare was incredibly good, definitely recommend. The Wagyu and Uni roll, however, was bland, and not what I was hoping for. The sake was the Summer Dream, and was what I expected, and pretty good. As Meatloaf said, "2 outta 3 ain't bad". Would come back again, maybe try the Wagyu burger instead of the roll.

Sushi on Jones was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have ever had in the city. The omakase was incredibly uninspired and bland, especially compared to similar sushi spots around town. Save your wallet for food that's actually worth it.

Did the 20 course for partner’s birthday and, unexpectedly, they seated us at the 2-seat counter with own sushi chef. The servers were amazing and they played very lit pop/rap/hip-hop music. They gave us birthday sushi piece which was really nice. I was full over the rim after the 20th piece.

If you see pre-pandemic reviews of Sushi On Jones, I would recommend ignoring them. It was once truly a good value for great sushi. No more.
Pretty much everything is lacking now. It was never the place to focus heavily on atmosphere (in and out in 45 minutes makes that hard), but they had been able to fit a satisfying omakase experience in that time. More recently, my meal lasted 15 minutes amidst a rapid fire of nigiri. The staff seemed hurried — bothered by questions on the sake list, unceremoniously plopping pieces on the counter. If there were atmosphere to be found, I don’t know that I would have had time to enjoy it.
The food has certainly declined. The quality of fish is good, but not great. On my last visit, the king salmon was oddly lacking in texture, while the wagyu was stringy and a bit tough. The flavor on the crab piece was positively nauseating. The selection is also pretty rote for an “omakase” — they seem to mean the experience of sitting at the counter instead of a chef’s choice based on what’s in that season or day.
When there’s no atmosphere, questionable quality, and the meal is over in a blink, the prices become hard to justify. Though they truly were good several years ago, they have increased and the quality has decreased. Sure, inflation and labor shortages and other things, but the prices are higher or equal to other sushi places (Sushi Kaito, Sushi Katsuei, Kanoyama, even Blue Ribbon) and the quality is substantially lower. It’s just not worth it.
I miss the old Sushi On Jones. It filled a niche and offered good value for great fish. Today’s Sushi On Jones does nothing of the sort.

Undress, dry fish. Lots of silverskin shows the chefs are either lazy or unskilled. Wagyu is dry and chewy. It's disgusting. Do not waste your money. Quality is same as those sushi boat restaurants. Avoid.

This was a wonderful experience! The omakase was delicious and the server explained all of the fish that was served which I thought was so cool. The music choice was also great and made the experience even more enjoyable. Great staff and wonderful food. Will definitely be returning soon.

This place wishes it could be a real sushi place, but fails in so many ways. Rice is undercooked and not seasoned, think hamster pellets for rice. The fish is nothing special, looks and tastes like supermarket fish. The staff don't have enough training and aren't familiar with the menu. 45 minutes for omakase that is likely to offend any Japanese who unfortunately eat here.

Great service! Wonderful omakase experience. Quick & fresh fish with great add on options such as wagyu gyozas and oysters. The champagne is great as well! All so good. We will return soon!

After spending $400 for a 20 piece omakase for 2 with a $100 bottle of sake, we were kicked out of our seat after 45 minutes. We were given the same amount of time as the people who orders the 12 piece omakase. The sushi is phenomenal, but I didn’t feel like I had enough time to enjoy or even taste it.

If you happen to be in the Village and craving sushi: look no further and come to Sushi on Jones.
Very attentive staff and lovely service; the food is great and very fresh; no long waiting times and even without a reservation they will try to squeeze you in.

We had an omakase 12 pieces nigiri. The ingredients were great actually, fresh fishes and very well done condiments that enhances the taste. One glaring problem that gave this a two stars is the sushi rice, it's not sushi rice and there's no vinegar in the rice. It's also slightly overcooked. What's a nigiri without proper rice? It's so sad to have good ingredients wasted on plain rice that does not enhance the umami.

My friends and I had a great experience at Sushi on Jones West Village. The manager Marco Gomez gave us a friendly reception, he made sure that all guests were enjoying their experience and getting the best hospitality. The food did not disappoint! It was very tasteful, and we sat at the sushi bar, which was exciting! This place is perfect to enjoy some good Omakase!

I’m so sad because this used to be my favorite cheap omakase in NYC.
We got the 20 piece omakase and it was almost like we got served sushi from a gas station.
Rice was mushy
Rice was cold
Rice was DENSE
Fish was much smaller than I remember
Quality felt off
So sad because I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back.

A go-to sushi spot in the west village. They don’t skimp on the omakase even though it’s a bargain at $60. Bill, the manager, is the man and always makes our experience a fun one. Highly recommend!

Eat fast enjoy less. They make the moto very clear, from the bright neon sign to the way the treat reservations for exactly 45 minutes, to the intensity of the wait staff and the loud fast beat music. If you are looking for high quality sushi at the fastest most efficient rate possible with a multiple hundred dollar price tag, this restaurant is for you. If you are looking for a more zen like omikase experience, then there are a lot of other options in Manhattan.

Been to Sushi on Jones many times but first time at this location. Good value overall and solid quality however was short changed from the omakase on the latest experience. The fish came out in rapid fire succession and my girlfriend took photos of everything. We left feeling solid until the gf looked back on her photos and realized we only got 10 out of the 12 dishes. Partly on us as we should have kept track but they were moving us along quickly and usually i trust the sushi chef when I do omakase.
Would I come back? Yes but not this location with this sushi chef.
If anyone goes to this location, maybe don't lose track as you down the sake like me.

Really great food, service, and ambiance. Our server was very kind- our courses were a bit slow to come out because the chef was handling online orders and they were short staffed due to COVID absences - so he comped us all extra pieces which was unnecessary, as we’re understanding that it’s unique times. Absolutely would return

Great offering for the price point, simple and easy menu. Quick service if you squeeze in as the first table of that shift, can't speak for when it's packed.

Ordered 2 x Omakase 12 pieces for two people
We waited 1 hour for the first 6 pieces to arrive then another 45 minutes for the last 6 to arrive. They were all cold and kind of not
Fresh. We felt like we didnt enjoy the food we ate and paid 200 usd for nothing.
BUT one point is that the staff is really nice

After my boyfriend and I had a disappointing initial dining experience at Sushi on Jones, the managers reached out and invited us to a second meal. The second experience was unrecognizable from the first; we had the most lovely server, the food was well paced, and the food was superb. Thanks to the team at Sushi on Jones for encouraging us to return, we'll be back :)

Excellent dining experience at the sit down tables. 12 course Omakase was provided across two plates by courteous servers with a delicious recommended Beaujolais wine. Would definitely recommend for a nice Omakase without the formality/rigidity of a typical Michelin Omakase type experience.

Went with the larger tasting menu but the chef went very quick which I’ve realized I do not like. It’s harder to enjoy the pieces. As for pieces some were great and others not so much but the service we received was great.

Some very delicious items on the menu; but, also a few questionable choices with the 20-piece tasting (wagyu, urchin, & salmon roe). Also the crispy rice nigiri was not well made, too crunchy and dry.
