We provide a beautiful rooftop dining experience and are open throughout every season. Focused on unique creations of traditional sushi, we serve Omakase, Nigiri, Sashimi, Maki, and other Japanese-inspired delights.
Really enjoyed my experience at sushi lab rooftop! The service was top tier. The food was delicious! The spicy tuna crispy rice and the salmon belly and poached Asian pear appetizers are a must try! Every specialty roll we tried was packed with exceptional flavors that enticed our taste buds. The rooftop also had heat lamps that keep you warm during the winter months. I can’t wait to come back and try more rolls.

I must say its a cute sushi rooftop restaurant in the heart of the city ,the place was beautifully decorated (it gave off oasis vibes). the sushi was good (in an average way - I have had better), the service was very fast and the waiter was very sweet.
The only downside in my opinion is that there isn't a variety on the menu or they won't make any adjustment to the way they prepare their rolls (no cream cheese lol) and the food was a tad bit over priced.

What an amazing experience from booking my reservations to the welcome at the front door and gong upstairs to be seated.
The staff were friendly, on point and attentive to our service.
The food was a 10/10 and we will recommending to other business owners to attend and friends

Very mid. Way too expensive for the quality. The ambiance was so cute and the waiter was kind, but the sushi was extremely disappointing.
We tried the $100 omakase which you would think means fresh, but instead we get deep fried “sushi”? Feels like they’re just hiding the quality of fish… can’t believe we spent $100 EACH for soggy, deep fried food… On top of that, the pieces of sushi that weren’t fried were instead topped with very overpowering sauces and condiments. Red flag when we’re paying $100pp.
The other menu items seem like they’d be fine… I just highly advise against the omakase. So not worth the price.

Went for the omakase around 5:30 on a Sunday. It was alright, for the price I’m not sure if I’d go back.
I get it’s a rooftop… but some kind of air conditioning would’ve been nice. I couldn’t enjoy my food as much because of how humid it was in there. It was painful to get off the wooden stool as I was stuck to it due to the sweat.
The fish was pretty great, they had some reallly fancy ingredients. Nothing tasted BAD per se, but not much blew my socks off. The uni, truffle, and caviar all made things delicious.
They were kind to us, as the chef noticed I ate my boyfriend’s shrimp and asked if he didn’t like it. He’s allergic, so he gave my boyfriend something else for free. Super kind of him as he didn’t need to do that!

We were looking for a place to have dinner near all the beauty of Times Square, and found sushi lab rooftop. You have to ask around to find it, but it’s so nice and freaking delicious. Expensive but not ridiculous. We got 2 rolls (both were amazing, but I forgot what they were called) and chicken gyoza which was unique in a good way, and dynamite shrimp. The shrimp was amazing.

I had the “omakase experience,” or whatever they call it, last night, and I waited to post my review until I was sure I wouldn’t end up with food poisoning. And that is the best thing I can say about this place: I didn’t get food poisoning.
The fish was flavorless at best, and gag-inducing at worst. The $100 experience comprised uninventive sushi that looked and tasted old and pre-prepped. They seem to mask the poor quality of fish either by frying it or slathering it with overpowering condiments. My friend and I sucked on cough drops between courses to get the foul taste out of our mouths.
Service was awkward, and the decor was beyond tacky. My clothes and hair were saturated with the rancid stench of fish fried in old oil. I had to send everything to the dry cleaner.
Overall, disgusting. But again, I’m pleasantly surprised that I didn’t end up getting sick from the food. So that’s worth a star.

Not the best sushi I’ve ever had, especially at the price. The crispy rice was amateur. I felt like I was dining at a corny omakase chain restaurant. Lots of tourists with their M&m goodie bags and playing Taylor swift and lady Gaga too loud. One piece of nigiri was $10 and it didn’t even taste fresh ! The waiters also kept trying to upsell stuff like cocktails, the more expensive omakase, more rolls etc. it was so tacky. So sad I fell for this trap - as a 7 year New Yorker too ! Don’t be like me

The Omakase dishes were of mediocre quality. Some were dry and others could have used more soy sauce or wasabi
There were construction works welding on the roof across the street - was quite entertaining

We were seated around 5:20. It’s 6:15 as I type this, and we still have not gotten our food. In fact the restaurant is basically empty right now. We were comped with a salmon belly appetizer but I don’t think one appetizer is enough for basically an hour wait. It’s crazy that no waiter even thought of to ask why we were just sitting there with no food. Now they gave my friends omekase first instead of bringing out the appetizers we ordered 🤣. Horrible service.

I wish I had taken photos of the food itself, let it be known the food was delicious! Considering the luxurious tone set for the restaurant, the portion sizes are as you imagined, small. There was enough for 3 of us to sample from one plate and the drinks they made were a great pairing to the experience.

AMAZING SERVICE!! PHENOMENAL FOOD!! CANT recommend enough!! Every single time I’m in NYC we visit this place. It’s one of my favorite sushi spots in the world since I travel so much. It is on the pricey side and we typically don’t spend less than about 400 for two. But it is worth every single penny.

It’s a very special rooftop. Nice views and cozy. I must say it’s not the best sushi I had in NY regarding the VERY high prices. I was expecting way more for what we paid. (I can say that there are a few places around the area that offer way more for way less). Nevertheless it is a nice atmosphere.

Third time at Sushi Lab after having a very good experience the first two times, but this one was very disappointing. Terrible service and attitude by the waiter as he made no effort to accommodate allergies and displayed a very poor attitude. Also refused to correctly communicate allergies to the kitchen saying “I’m just going to write down gluten free…” Very disappointing as it’s a spot we usually recommend.

Sushi Lab: Great Value for the Price
When it comes to sushi, spending more typically means only a slight improvement in quality, and this margin diminishes as prices increase. That being said, Sushi Lab offers great value for the price. At $60 for 11 pieces, it's a good deal for New York City.
The sushi at Sushi Lab isn't the traditional type; it features an American fusion twist by adding complementary flavors to each piece, enhancing the overall experience. This style reminds me of Ume in Brooklyn. However, I found the flavor of each fish to be somewhat muted or blank. But again, considering the price, it's not bad.

The food is basic, meh at best. We had the salmon belly & poached Asian pear, charred edamame, and the chef selection. First, skip the edamame. It's not worth it. As for the 11 course chef’s selection, every piece lacked flavor and quality. This place relies too much on the atmosphere/rooftop vibes and less on the food quality.

Used to love going here for our business outings and it was my best recommendation to numerous people. The last time I was there, 20% gratuity was auto included to the bill and the server handed us the payment device with the tip screen open and allowed us to double tip. We felt so deceived when we realized on our business receipts later. Called to have it fixed and was told it would be taken care of. Had to call again because nothing was done - employee that helped on the phone was shocked it wasn't rectified. Unfortunately it still hasn't been addressed by their billing department. All the other restaurants we go to highlight the "gratuity included" line and good servers will do customers the courtesy of pointing that out. Happy to take our ~$5k of annual patronage to another omakase place!

Such a cute sushi spot with the bonus that it’s on a rooftop that is decorated in a welcoming and flirty way! If you want a tasty experience- recommend the Lab experiment omakase. Cannot go wrong with any of the sushi options and recommend trying the match crème brûlée if you can save space for dessert. The service was impeccable!
Could be a cute spot for a date night or catching up with girlfriends- may be difficult space for groups because most tables are for 2 people.

Came here for Sunday lunch—had a delicious meal! Loved the decor of the greenery and plants all over.
Started off with the Chicken Gyoza, wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce that’s drizzled on it. The Chicken Katsu Sandwich and Washugyu Beef Roll ($21) were good! If you like raw fish, the Omakase: The Lab Experiment, with 15 signature courses for $100 is highly recommended—my fiancé was in heaven and said the fish was fresh and delicious! I tried some of the cooked items (soft-shell crab & eel roll) and they were good! For cocktails, I recommend the Lychee Martini ($16)—super tasty!

Food was average to good.
They do not provide bottles of soy sauce at the table.
Instead they provide small bowls of sauce.
They used disposable chop sticks.
They did not provide separate plates for our sushi so we ate directly from the shared plate. That was unusual.
Prices were reasonable; under $20 for a piece roll.

I am very happy, eating alone. It's not like eating alone. But it has the cuteness of the service staff and the manager. And I will come back to eat again. And will come back on the day they work too.

We went out last Thursday with our friends for an omakase experience in the wonderful place.
Located in the heart of the Times Square. There are two restaurants there so dont get confused when entering.
Plenty of street (if you lucky) and indoor parking.
Seating available by the window or even at chef’s table to watch them cook.
All sushi were very unique and tasty. I even ate uni (which i typically dont like)..
Drinks were plenty and based on a fact that everyone kept ordering more (i dont drink) - they must have been good.
Service was pleasant and not overbearing with “do you want another drink”
A la carte menu available if you are not interested in omakase. Prices are very reasonable as compared to similar places in far less busy and popular locations.
Check them out.

Really enjoyed my lunch here, however, their reservation policy was really intense. I had to put my card down for $25 cancellation fee (ok), but when I wanted to adjust my reservation same day (from 12 to 12:30) it was not allowed, even though there were still reservations available. I also could not call because they opened at 12. Seems like a lot for having plenty of open tables :/

They might’ve been understaffed when we went during restaurant week. While the restaurant had a couple of tables empty they took a very long time to serve our food. The quality of the sushi was great and it was nice watching the chef make it right in front of us as we had gotten a seat at the chefs table. Awful service though, took almost 2 hours to bring us 3 plates of sushi and dessert.

If I can summarize the highlight of my most recent NY trip, I would say the following 3 words "Sushi Lab Rooftop". What an amazing experience and a steal! In my area, omakase is so expensive. Granted that it was all made and placed on a plate versus being sliced individually and given to you piece by piece, it was still an amazing price!
I decided to stop by at 2PM as a walk-in. I had called ahead of time and they said that was fine. The kitchen closes at 2:30PM. Arriving to the location, we checked in with the front desk and they walked us to the elevator. We had a whole unique journey going to the rooftop! Really adventurous I would say.
My date and I had ordered drinks and we both felt like they were the best drinks we've had in a while. I ordered the chef's selection 10 piece omakase for $60 and it came with wagyu and uni. I then tried the uni macaron and that is the most instagrammable picturesque food art I've ever seen! I really have to give this restaurant props for their creativity, speed, and quality. I loved every bite and wish I could eat this meal every single day. Also great lighting and warmth with heater lamps up here. 10/10!

A fusion-style sushi restaurant on the roof top. Guests take elevator up, and climb stairs for two floors to get to the restaurant. In the evening, it was full with reservation only. One word - Mid!
Not worth the time or money for omakase. Our reservation was for 6:30 but our first course took almost an hour to arrive and waiting between the courses was on average 15-20 minutes. The rice portions were also very skimpy, felt like shrinkflation
Our server was very nice and kudos to the serving team despite the above.

This place gets a 10/10 on the vibe check, but the food was hit or miss. I am personally not a fan of this “new wave” sushi. The menu was very overly complicated and it needed to be explained how the “lab experiment” worked. The crab tacos were good and the tuna tartare was AMAZING, but I don’t understand how as a sushi restaurant you can fail so badly on edamame.
My roll was good but I wasn’t blown away, especially considering how limited the menu feels compared to a classic sushi restaurant and how expensive it was. I’m still unclear how iceberg lettuce has a place in a sushi roll.
As far as drinks, the non-alcoholic beverage options were very pleasant. I received mixed reviews from the table on their alcoholic beverages.
Overall we took some cute pictures but a dinner for 4 cost more than a night at my 4 star hotel and I still prefer Blue Ribbon.

For a tourist, being from FL, this was a very cool experience. I sat at the bar and had the 15 piece meal, chefs specials. Was able to see the food being prepared and the chef explained the dish before serving it. I don't usually eat sushi I'm unfamiliar with but I enjoyed it overall and it helped me to know what I like and don't like. The uni and scallop didn't sit well with me but everything else was very very good and ingredients were all very fresh. I'll definitely be returning

Highly unprofessional. I paid a very hefty bill at this restaurant, and skipped the tip. One of the waiters/managers came barging to my table and was utterly disrespectful in the presence of my family. He kept demanding that I pay a tip, and was literally harassing me as if it was mandate. Be very cautious of these kind of places that can harass you like this!!!

This place is hungry for tips. Just because I didn't want to tip. The main manager came barking at us, demanding a tip at the end. Tips are customers' choices and not a necessary fee that needs to be paid after the food is paid for.

Originally we were told we weren’t able to eat (anything) here. The few door men (want to say Jose) said no even after being told no a door promoter told us we could get in. Which Jose shut down again. He was pretty rude.
Then we asked if we could eat ANYTHING and then they pointed us to the bar. Again not friendly so then I went to the hostess Kayla SUPER NICE AND FRIENDLY and made reservations for the following evening but also asked if there were any cancellations to please let us know. Within about one hour. Kayla came back to us and said there had been a last-minute cancellation. The men from before didn’t even take the time to walk us up as they had done in nice suits with other guests however, Kayla walked us up to our table on the rooftop even though you could tell it wasn’t part of her job And she was so kind while doing it and it meant so much to us and I just wanted to say that it made the experience and maybe the other two men need to take notes from her and how to handle guests that are coming in as walk-ins versus reservations. Thank you Kayla! It really made our night extra special!

Go into the Sanctuary Hotel and check in at the front desk. You will be shown to the elevator to the 6th floor, then walk up 2 floors. We came for the Omakase. Some of us got the Chef Selection and one got the Lab Experiment.
The A5 steak on toasted rice cake piece had a hard crunch that overpowered the soft/creamy texture. Toro with uni and caviar piece had too much going on that ended up with confusing flavors. The sweet shrimp with salmon roe piece was amazing. Overall, a great experience, except the Lab Experiment had only 14 pieces total, (including the handroll at the end), rather than the 15, as advertised. It's very possible that the chef got mixed up with the Selection (10 pieces) and Experiment (15 pieces), and to add to the confusion, we also ordered one tuna tartar to share. A photo for each course/piece was taken; we made sure of that. We did wonder how the chef was able to keep track of the differences in courses. While we felt the 15-pieces Lab Experiment ended rather quickly, we didn't take out the phone to count the photos to double-check check all 15 pieces were served. Oh, well, one star off there. Note to self for next time.
Besides that issue, it was a very good overall experience.

For Sushi Lab Omakase Experience 15 pieces for 100 dollars.
For 100 dollars, you really can't go wrong. I personally thought it was money well spent! Every single piece was delightful and didn't disappoint!
I would highly recommend going with a smaller group of friends you can have fun with anytime, anywhere, regardless of the atmosphere.
The real question is, would I go back soon? Oh, hell yea. I wonder how the roof top view is during the summer.

The Washugyu specialty roll is delicious. 😋
I also had the dynamite shrimp 🍤 for an appetizer. Came here for a snack. Will try more on the next visit.

Amazing sushi spot in NYC!
A friend recommended this place for dinner. It didn’t disappoint. It is located close to Times Square at the top of a building. The place looks small but it is beautiful, well decorated. Definitely a place for instagrammable pictures.
The service is really good. Very welcoming and attentive. You need a reservation and they ask for a credit card.
We ordered the Lab Experiment along with other dishes. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. Everything was delicious. The portions look small, but at the end you feel satisfied. Finally we ordered the cheesecake to top it off.
We spent $260 including tip per 2 people. Agree, not to hace lunch here everyday, but worth it once in a while. And, by looking at the pictures, you will notice that we had a fair amount of food.

Sushi Lab Rooftop is located on the top floor of Sanctuary Hotel on 47th St between 6th and 7th Ave. When entering the hotel, you go to the reception desk to check in for your restaurant reservation, and get escorted through the lobby to an elevator that is hard to find if you visit for the first time. The restaurant has great views of the nearby buildings - in summer, it is an open rooftop terrace, in winter it gets converted into a covered restaurant. The style is modern and stylish, most guests were in their 20s or 30s.
You order a variety of sushi creations - certainly not your traditional Japanese sushi, but a modern interpretation with different flavors and textures. We found all dishes excellent, and loved the fact that we could simply order more if necessary as there is no specific sequence.
We enjoyed the house sake with our food, which was nice and fresh. We found the price level absolutely appropriate. The place gets really busy, so better have a reservation.

Beers were served in tiny glasses, service and omakase were substandard, place had a dingy vibe.. Overall was disappointing.

This was one of the best sushi experiences I have had. All the flavors of the sushi lab paired so well together and the fish was very high quality. We went late enough that the kitchen closed before I could order one last roll, but the 15 course sushi lab did pretty decent to leave me comfortable at the end. I would certainly hit this again when I can.

Ganz schlecht. Kein Bezug zum Preis.

Was not able to dine here today after being racially profiled. I was told I could wait for a table to finish and we could be squeezed in. 10 minutes later, the hostess came back saying no one would be leaving anytime soon to squeeze us in. I’m sorry but that is ridiculous & very hard to believe.

Wonderful place with a cute atmosphere and truly delicious sushi. Really liked the the structure and pacing of the omakase. The matcha brulee was also a hit for dessert.

Very good fish, delicious, Excellent deal for the price,
That said, despite having ancinteresting variety of tane/topping mixes, it takes very few risks--basically all the sushi are "topping on fish on rice" and whole there is some creativity with the pairings, it's also a loud enohgh bar that you can't easily hear the chef's description of same,

Cute little sushi restaurant tucked away at the roof of the Sanctuary Hotel. Brought my friend here for a birthday brunch and she loved it. The restaurant is not that big, I would recommend making a reservation in advance just in case.
We both got the Lab Experiment and the quality of ingredient, flavor and presentation were all great. I usually prefer certain fish over the others, but the way these came out, with unique flavors for each piece, really made me appreciate all the different varieties they offered. My friend loved every bite and said it’s the nicest place anyone has taken her to. I think she’s exaggerating, it’s a neat little spot in midtown for sushi, but far from the nicest.
Price was very reasonable for the quality of the omakase, I actually think it’s a pretty good deal for the area, maybe I’m just used to midtown pricing.
My friend and I each had 3 drinks, that’s what pushed up the bill total. I liked the Lychee Martini, it wasn’t overtly sweet and didn’t taste very artificial like the way some places make these. Overall, not too bad, I’ve paid more for restaurants per person than what I paid here for the brunch for two, and I honestly like the food here better.
The overall decor and ambience is very bright, airy and relaxing. The windows are open and there’s good airflow. It’s a cute little date / brunch spot with the greenery and flower decor throughout. Not sure how hot it would get in the restaurant during the summer. On the day we went when the high temperature was in the mid 80s, it was very comfortable. I saw one of the reviews mention loud music, not sure if that’s played around dinner time because I didn’t notice any obnoxious music during my brunch.
There was a mention of a 90 minute time limit in the reservation confirmation I received, but the restaurant wasn’t that full on the day we went, and no one kicked us out after 2 hours until we asked for our check. We also booked a time slot when they first opened on a weekend, that might be why it wasn’t crowded during the time we were there.
I’m happy with the food, drink and service overall. This place is close enough to work that I might be able to pop by after work for dinner in the future.
One thing to note: there are two flights of stairs after you get off the elevator on the 6th floor. In case anyone in your party has mobility issues, this spot might not be a good choice.

Came here for a friend's birthday, and honestly, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. From the food to the ambiance to the service down to the ingredients they used, everything was amazing. We decided to splurge and get the hundred-dollar Omakase, and it was worth every penny. Personally, the meal was very filling. Every time, the chef brought out a new selection for us to try. I kept saying OK. This is my favorite. OK, never mind this is my favorite. The combinations of flavors were so good even though we were a little skeptical about some of them at first. None of us drank alcohol so the waiter brought us some mocktails instead, which were absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend and plan to come back.

It's true what others say, sushi lab rooftop is just a pretty ambience restaurant. From the moment I received the you will only get 90 minutes to dine- that was already a foreshadowing of what's to come. I came here yesterday for my birthday. They don't take note of any celebrations, so don't anticipate any nice gestures. It's super loud with music and chatter...this I didn't expect because the photos do give a romantic vibe. You have been warned! The dinner felt rushed. When the waiters bring you the sushi- they explain each piece in 1 second and then walk away as quickly as they can to move on to the next. It felt all too factory for me. The fish was mediocre at best. There is better out there! I thought the price was fair for the 15 pieces that you get. Beautiful space, but I wouldn't return and I wouldn't recommend to others who ask.

Food was phenomenal, chef’s at the counter were really knowledgeable about the food they’re serving. Manager on duty that night was amazing, and our server definitely was genuinely attentive to our needs and was informative about every questions we had about the food and the place. Highly recommended! I toon my boyfriend for his birthday, and it was a memorable experience for the both of us.
