Loved Irving, he made each course lovingly and with pride. Each course was thoughtfully seasoned and had toppings. The bartender was also super cool and friendly. This is a cozy place with an edgy vibe. We did the 17 course dinner and we were really full and impressed. There were some combinations like the wagyuuni that were really tasty. You get their house made ikura too. It’s such an easy way to have a nice pre or post theatre meal. Nothing fussy and everything delicious!!

I would not recommend this place to anyone. Eat your food in 30 mins. Give us your money in 30 mins, eat your omakase and get out. It was not clearly explained that you cannot extend the time to an hour. If I knew that I would have avoided this place at all costs. I called to double check if the time can be extended to 1 hour, it was not clearly explained that it could not be accommodated. I also didn’t expect the place to be extremely tiny. I am not claustrophobic but I did feel claustrophobic. In addition, the next people are waiting right behind you. Avoid this place if you are not looking for quick bite. In my opinion Omakase is made to enjoy the flavor and quality of fish with every piece. In 30 minutes, you cannot do that, that’s is the reason why it’s called an experience!!!

The omakase experience here is nothing short of magical. Each piece of sushi was a work of art, expertly prepared with the freshest ingredients and served at the perfect temperature. Had such a great time dinning here. The staff is very courteous and helped accommodate me after some issues with my reservation.

This was my first omakase experience and so glad this one it. Unlike traditional omakase, the ambience and service here is more laid back and perfect if you’re on a night out looking to have a drink and chill vibes. Just note the space can be a bit tight and lack waiting space.

Definitely recommend!

The most intimate of atmospheres, you are taken care of the second you walk through the door. The drinks are imaginative and bright. Highly recommend the ginger highball - is a great palate cleanser between bites and you want to taste each bite in the fullest! Can't rave enough about each piece - I will go back in a heartbeat.

My favorite omakase when I’m traveling in NYC. So delicious and awesome service. It’s 30 minutes so it’s perfect if you have a happy hour or late dinner afterwards or are trying to get to a broadway show. I’ve been here several times and always so delicious. It’s a 12 course omakase and there is a bougie version with 17 pieces for $100

Sushi Experience №28

This place was so stinking good . It feels a little "underground" (which it actually is) because you get there with a little gated stairway to a basement spot that looks like you need a password to get in, but you don't. There are like 8 seats total around a chef table, with a couple seats against wall for waiting for your seating. Very small, but very cool. The Omakase was absolutely delicious, I wanted more of everything. Chefs did a great job with my gluten free requirements, I watched it all as they made it and my piece was separated when needed, with one or two adjustments when the dish had gluten (like I got a different piece when I couldn't do the salmon roe that was marinated in soy sauce). Truly fantastic food, would go back in a heartbeat.

The service was great—from the hostess, waiters, and of course to the chefs who did a great job walking everyone through the menu and explaining each sushi that was presented.

Some of my favorites included the surf and turf (wagyu and uni), the shrimp, and the scallop sushi. Each had a rich, creamy, umami flavor and all tasted extremely fresh.

At dinner, however it shouldn't have 30 minutes to eat. My friend and I got 12 courses omakase so we looked to make a reservation and all Sushi by Boa in NYC were booked up except for this location. I wanted to go to another location and the location I want the course is 12 courses 60 minutes. So when I saw Times Square was available, I thought it was the same, but I found out later when they rush us to finish the meal. I feel I was at the lunch time.

For the price vs food, I'm not impressed at all. Chef keep adding sushi to my dish without waiting for me to finish. I don't know if that is normal. What kind of Omakase experience is it? I went to Sushi by Bou in another location before and nothing like this. I wanted to surprise my friend but she wasn't crazy about the overall either.

Day by day, they are getting too commercial, I wish they can keep the quality and service like they used to.

Visited 3 months ago

Sushi Experience №36

It was good and straightforward. The pieces were small, lacking rice and they were very thin pieces, like the wagyu and toro. Besides that, the flavors were good. Small intimate setting, tucked under a hotel only seating about 8 people. Great if you’re in a pinch and want a quick omakase for the price.

First of all, it surprised me to have omakase served so rushed in 35 minutes. Some sushi rice was undercooked (hard grains) but the sushi chef couldn’t feel it while they make
the sushi pieces? What does that tell you about their skills? The fish and seafood used are all very fresh and good quality, but the seaweeds weren’t even crunchy. Overall I don’t think this is good quality sushi, let alone being omakase at all. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Sushi Experience №73

Worse omakase I ever had in my life
I booked to try due to the $70 buy one get one promotion. Wanna say it has so many location, quality would be great. But it’s such a huge disappointment. All fish were pre-cut before, and the chef only need to “place” it on the rice as a sushi???? Not even cut in front of customers? That’s fine for me if the fish quality is good. I feel even a regular sushi restaurant take out is even better than them. The rice was kinda hard and cold (not warm), the fatty tuna I can feel the tendon or sth wasn’t cut in perfectly. And twice with the chopped tuna?seriously?
My reservation is 7:15PM, finished 12 courses by 7:42. Not even 30mins! And their tips % is based on 2 people price. Service was ok so my husband was like just give regularly is fine even he notice I’m up sad about the sushi.
I’ve been in all different level of omakase
Great price point or expensive, so I’m not that type of customer don’t understand QUALITY.
Wouldn’t come back again and recommend ANYONE to it. Horrible experience and ruined my Sunday night.

This is my second time here at Sushi by Bou and the experience was just as amazing. Each course is explained by the chef so you know what you’re having. Went for the 12 course omakase dinner. The food is prepared right in front of you and is a very intimate experience with yourself, chef, and other guests.

There is only seating for ~8. It was my first time having omakase, but the sushi is nothing super spectacular. The scallops from Hokkaido and miso cod were my favorite. There is a special if you are able to eat the "big mac" in one bite you can receive a free sake shot. If you do end up getting the 2 for 1 deal it isn't bad at all and definitely worth trying out if you're interested!

Sushi Experience №84

I recently visited this omakase spot using a BOGO deal, and while the discount made it more palatable, I wouldn’t say it’s worth paying full price. The sushi was disappointing overall. First, all the fish was pre-cut and kept in the fridge for too long. I understand they aim for a fast-paced omakase experience, but the fish was served far too cold, paired with lukewarm rice, which made for an odd and unpleasant combination. The coldness of the fish was quite jarring, and only by the end of the meal—once it had warmed up to room temperature—did it become slightly more enjoyable.

The rice was another issue. Some courses were fine, but others had rice that was tough and undercooked, almost like it had been left out overnight. For a $65 omakase, I expected better quality.

On top of that, the chefs were talking to each other throughout the service, which didn’t feel very sanitary. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, but sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations. It might have just been an off night, but I’m not sure I’d return

What a gem! We visited with our French friends, looking for some great sushi (left the kids at the hotel) and WOW were we charmed. Warm and friendly greetings, a literal front row seat to watch the artisan create and then explain each bite. Hard to pick a fave so we repeated several, and tried some of the a la carte options as well. Of all the experiences in the city this weekend, this is the one we will remember as the best. The couple next to us were perhaps a bit loud but it actually added to the intimacy of the speakeasy coolness. A must do!

Really enjoyed this unique 30-min omakase experience in what seems like a former dive bar. The space is small but well utilized and nicely decorated, no wasted inch. The chefs were on point with serving up each piece at a pace that was no as rushed as I had assumed. I think there were a total of 15-some pieces, 1/3 were outstanding, another 1/3 were good, and the last 1/3 were alright. In combination with their cocktails from the tiny bar in the corner, Sushi by Bou packs a punch! Chefs were fun to banter with as well. 谢谢! Do keep in mind that there are multiple locations in the city. The people next to us had resys at the same time but showed up abt 10 mins late (cuz they went to the wrong location) and showed up with abt half of their pieces already served on their plate waiting for them. With that said, there timing system does seem to allow for some slight wiggle room. Mom

If you're looking for tasty omakase near Times Square, Sushi by Bou is the place to go! Keep an eye out because you may miss the entrance if you're not looking hard enough. There's a gate that leads you to an underground entrance covered in graffiti. It's so cool! The restaurant has enough seating for typically 8-10 people, so it's a very intimate setting. It can feel a little tight at times, especially if you're waiting to use the restroom. If you're coming with a party, make sure everyone shows up on time. They don't start until everyone is there. The sushi chefs and staff are so friendly and accommodating. And the food is beyond delicious! My favorite was the wagyu and eel. We went during a friend's birthday, and they provided mochi ice cream at the end. What a great way to spend your afternoon!

I’m a bou fan so when I was in town I had to check out the west loop location. All the spots have such a unique feel- this was very upscale compared to the disco and hip hop themed in NYC but equally as amazing. Have never left a bou unhappy!!

I’ve never been to a less authentic omakase. This is my first 1 star review, it was very disappointing.

This place is run by people who know nothing about the art and craft of great sushi making. All they do is throwing in what they think the right ingredients are and treating the experience like fast sushi.

They only care about money and flipping tables, to the point where sushi pieces will pile up on your plate. We were rushed to wrap up in under 30 mins.

There’s no interaction with the chef. The rice is not great and the sushi falls apart immediately. The quality is only slightly better than Whole Foods sushi with fancier ingredients.

Food is good, but we felt rushed to have to eat a 12-piece meal in 30 minutes. We could have used an extra 30 minutes, at least. 175 USD is quite expensive for a 30-minute meal you don't have time to appreciate ...

Just a great omakase experience all around, and in such a cool, intimate space. Fish is incredibly fresh, rice is well prepared, and staff is knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. Cocktails are delicious and they do have non-A options. And the price is not bad for the quality! Hard to beat in the Times Square area.

I have visited Sushi By Bou and the experience left a lasting impression. The 12 course omakase dining journey was nothing short of exquisite, with each dish thoughtfully crafted to perfection. The Hamachi (9/10) and Hotate (9/10) stood out as exceptional highlights, showcasing the chef's skill and precision.

The atmosphere at Sushi by Bou is both hip and young, providing the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience. The service was attentive, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the evening.

From the melt-in-your-mouth Toro (9.5/10) to the delicate Akami (8.5/10), the menu boasts a diverse range of sushi options that cater to various palates. The Gindara (8.5/10) and Maguro (8.5/10) added another layer of sophistication to the culinary journey.

While some dishes like the Botan Ebi (7/10) and Wagyuri (7.5/10) scored lower than the others scored, the overall dining experience was undoubtedly one to savor. Sushi by Bou is definitely a place to visit carved its place as a destination for those seeking a culinary adventure in the world of sushi.

In summary, Sushi by Bou offers a commendable blend of quality, service, and a diverse sushi selection that makes it a noteworthy spot for any sushi enthusiast. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their culinary offerings.

If you are from the west coast where sushi is actually good and affordable, don't come here. They used sauce to cover up the fish(aka the fish was not fresh). They had chopped tuna nigiri on the menu which was basically a tuna mush/paste. It was gross. Their wagyu is not really wagyu and pairing it with Uni kills the pairing. They seared an albacore tuna nigiri and it was over cooked and not good/dry. Service was ok. If you are looking for traditional omakase this was not it.

It’s a great place for really good sushi in only 30 mins. Obviously, not a place to chit chat or hang for too long but just in and out run. You can get good Omakase for under $100 but it didn’t fill me up. I had pizza, Japanese BBQ, and ramen afterwards.

Perspective as an Asian who enjoys matured sushi, I have had many experiences with entry to medium-level omakase ($60 to $250)

I summary- disappointing, and I would recommend it only to those who are willing to waste over $60 without high expectations for sushi and don't mind the issues I mentioned.

1. Excessive noise due to loud music.
2. I found the chef to be unimpressive. Upon seating, he asked about allergies. Even though my companions hadn't arrived yet and I didn't know their allergies, I replied that I didn't know. Told him my friend arrived a minute later, but he insisted that they needed to know about allergies before any dishes could be prepared as all people will be served with same sushi, which was quite frustrating. Told three times that I do not know. I didn't understand why I had to be scolded while paying over $60 for a meal. It left a bad taste in my mouth even before I started eating.
3. Lack of dining etiquette - chef constant inquiries about the food. “Is it good” at every peace. Never experienced
4. Pre-sliced fish that may compromise flavor.
5. Overpowering oil aroma on top of sushi.
6. Pre-chopped tuna comes from a plastic plate with a wrapper goes on maki right away. Never experienced.
7. Hidden card fees ($65 for cards, $60 for cash) without prior notice.

Tucked in a basement level of a hotel, the place may be small but the food packs a punch. It's omakase with some Ala carte options if you need more. The chef makes the sushi right in front of you and it moves pretty fast. Ingredients were fresh with the right amount rice.

Great sushi in this small downstairs restaurant that only seats about 10 people per sitting. Omekase with a couple extra is great. Definitely talk with the chef about what you like and why. Good sake and a nice Yamakazi whiskey make this a very good local option!

Sushi by Bou is a small intimate spot. You get 12 pieces of sushi that are prepared in front of you over the course of 30 minutes. (Although you can order extra pieces afterwards if you want.) The food is immaculate and delicious and service is top notch. Beyond that, watching them prepare the sushi in front of you is delightful. It's a little tricky to find (down a set of steps and through a door that is a bit sticky) but still one of my favorite places to eat sushi.

My first experience with Sushi by bou was my favorite omakase in nyc but the most recent was the worst meal I've had in the city
All pieces were good the first time around but not a single one out of 17 were this time
Told the chef three pieces in that the rice was still hard and crunchy but was ignored
By 6 pieces I just wanted it to be over
Halfway through I was holding back tears that the occasion that I was excited for and reserved a month in advance was so awful and disappointing
None of extra pieces in the premium omakase were premium
I guess I was just another sucker

Cool ambience, great chef, not so great servers. They didn’t even let me order an a la carte portion and pretty much gave me the bill before I even considered dessert. Upon asking they said I couldn’t order more (even when customers next to me ordered some). I understand they have a time limit but was a weird, almost rude, abrupt end to an otherwise good evening.

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Sushi by Bou in midtown New York. Slight speakeasy vibe as the entrance is at the end of a hall (not too difficult to find though). The sushi bar seats approx a dozen person. Good vibes with hip hop playlist and nice chefs/staff. The sushis were all very good and you can order extra ones after the omakase.

The food was delicious, the chefs were so fun to chat with, and the ambience was overall cool, comfortable, and welcoming. They were very punctual with each reservation and each omakase course. I definitely want to try their 60-minute reservation next time.

Edit: Hello again! Half a year later, and I am still enjoying every time I visit this location! Shouts out to Kevin and Jason for always taking care of me, especially on my birthday! :) also thanks Bryan (black belt!), Sean and Jun for always serving up the delicious food. Looking forward to seeing y'all again soon!

Disgusting tourist trap. There is no way anyone with a positive review of this restaurant has been to an omakase before. Even for low-end at this price point it's really easy to find much better.

The rice was soaked with vinegar and absolutely falling apart. The fish was ok, but drenched in sauces.

The experience was awful. They rushed us through so we had multiple pieces on the plate at once, the waiters were obtrusive, the chef frequently interjected into our conversation. Oh and the sake markup is 2.5x bottle price for cheap stuff you can find in any liquor store.

Delicious omakase-especially since it was our first time! It was very much a secretive basement restaurant vibe! Seats about 8 people and is 45-50 mins long which is perfect! My friend booked an early dinner here before our show last week. She highly recommended this place to me. We had an awesome amazing delicious sushi omakase experience! Every bite was so fresh, flavorful, and heavenly. Also had to try the Big Mac (wagyu, toro, scallop, uni), which was messy multiple bites of goodness. With a cozy limited seating area in the basement, this intimate dining experience had a speakeasy like feel. Cocktails were unique and creative, brought to us by the amazing Erika! She made our night and is such a great presence there. I hope to make it back again sooner than later!

Best sushi omakase in midtown by a mile. If you overlook this place, you don’t know sushi. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. The pieces were savory, delicious and delicate. The flavor profile was perfectly balanced with all ingredients. The full coarse leaves you fully satisfied but not overwhelmed. We’ll worth the price of admission.

This is by far one of my favourite spots to get dinner. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times this past year to celebrate special days (valentines day, anniversary, birthdays) and Sushi by Bou is by far and away one of the best spots in New York City. The service is incredible, with a spotlight shining on Kevin and June. Kevin has been so welcoming to my girlfriend and I, remembering who we are and making us feel like we're part of the Sushi by Bou family. He really makes the experience feel special, nothing ever feels false or transactional with him, it always feels like he's happy to see us again (and the feelings mutual). June is another highlight, being funny and cheerful while also blasting out 48 pieces of sushi every 30 minutes (which is mind blowing to me). The best spot to spend a dinner and I recommend it to everyone I can. Thanks for the memories guys and excited to make more here.

Chef is incredible - creating artwork with the nigiri! The quality of the fish is amazing and so beautifully done. The staff is great! Particularly want to highlight Mikey - he was so kind & accommodating. We got there early so we could find the entrance.
