A reimagined sushi experience, Sendo combines authenticity, minimalism, and exceptional quality. Extreme attention to detail is the core philosophy: rice is sourced from the finest farms in Hokkaido, while aged vinegars and homemade sauces are crafted over the course of hours, days, and years to enhance the natural flavors of premium fish from Japan.
Best omakase deal in NYC! Seating is limited so it’s best to get there early to scan the code and put your name on the waiting list.
Most of all, fish quality was a top notch. We chose Tokyo package (I think $41) for 9 nigiri, 2 hand rolls, 1 mini kaisendon.
We thoroughly enjoyed every piece of nigiri and hand rolls.
Highly recommend this place if you are willing to wait. Definitely worth it and we are looking forward to going back in a near future.

A hidden affordable omakase, which could have been a jam in NYC, but need some improvements on operation.
I got there around 5:05 pm, there were many ppl waiting on stairs. After waiting for about 10 mins, a chef passed by us and entered the restaurant. After that, the people who had been waiting went inside, but the restaurant was already full. We put our names on the waiting list and carefully walked down the slippery stairs as it was raining. After waiting for about 40 minutes, we were seated. The restaurant was small, with enough space to serve 12 people. The food itself was delicious. It was served in portions of two pieces, and the meal was finished within 30 minutes.
Even though it was a reasonably priced omakase, we wanted to enjoy the atmosphere while eating. However, with people waiting behind us, we felt pressured to leave quickly.

The wait time was almost an hour.
The sushi itself was good, I enjoyed the fish selection and the simplicity of each dish.
We felt like we were rushed throughout the meal. it was the first time I was given multiple pieces at a time.
At the end of the meal we realized that even though we ordered Hokkaido (12 total pieces), we only got 11 pieces in our meal.

Small, sleek space with great visibility of the chefs preparing delicious nigiri. Fish quality is superb. Prices are very reasonable. The 13 piece set for $47 base price is great and unbeatable value for what you get. Every detail is considered at this spot. The rice is seasoned well and presentation is appealing. Would happily return.
Note that because this is the real deal, wait times can be long (>1 hour). There is walk-in QR code reservation so it’s best to check in then explore nearby shops.

So happy to have found this spot. So far one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in the city, especially for the price. We ordered the Hokkaido set and each piece of fish was incredibly fresh and wonderfully prepared. The space is counter service only, but that’s the best part since you get to watch as each course is prepared and passed right to you. Drinks were limited to sake, beer, and some tea options. I really appreciated that each sake on the menu had a flavor profile description, made the selection much easier.
The only downside is the wait. Get there early and put your name on the list if you want to go on the weekend because the wait time can get to be 2+ hours in a matter of minutes. Because the space is so small, don’t expect to wait inside, it’s best to have some plans to wander the surrounding area after you put your name down and they’ll text you when the space opens up.

This place is amazing. We started waiting around 4:30 pm to get in line. First come, first serve and only seat up to 10 customers each session. I ended up putting myself on the waitlist and overall waited an extra 40 min after it opened.
I enjoy the atmosphere and vibe of this place. Everyone was so friendly, and the chef interacted the entire time while serving all the pieces to you. The food was fresh. I would definitely recommend you guys to try out this restaurant. FYI, you should definitely get there early to line up.

The wait was a bit more than 1 hour, but I think it's fine since there is a lot to walk around their location. Their omakase is definitely good value for the price and everything was very high quality. The only thing that could be improved is the quite short window of time between them notifying you and you having to arrive, or you would lose the table. The good thing is, we arrived a bit late and still got the table.

Went with couple of friends to try this newly opened omakase place. The price is very reasonable for the experience but the size of the sushi is smaller than those $$$ places. Overall the atmosphere is great but one will miss the cool vibe of observing the sushi chef artwork of cutting fishes since almost all pieces are precut.

If you’re looking for an intimate sushi experience that doesn’t break the bank, this small spot is a must-visit. The sushi itself is incredible—super fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The chefs clearly take pride in their craft, and it shows in every bite.
If you’re craving great sushi in NYC, this place is a true hidden gem. Just be sure to arrive early—it’s small, and the wait time can be longer than 1h.

This place is absolutely a joke. Restroom broke down, smells terrible. Sushi quality is horrible. Whole Foods sushi quality is much better than this. I ordered sushi roll and 3 nigiri, waited for an hour for them to ready. The whole place is sketchy and extremely dirty. Please don’t come here. I say this with my whole heart.

INSANE quality and taste for a fraction of the price of other Omakase restaurants. We didn't have to ask for anything, service was on point and friendly. Sushi was some of the freshest I've ever had w/o the heavy price tag. Digs are small but the staff didn't rush us out to acomadate other reservations. Can't wait to come back!!!

We were forced to leave after 45 mins. Following an hour wait, we were texted to return back to the restaurant only to find the previous guests still eating. We had to awkwardly stand in the corner which seemed to pressure others to eat faster. The sake and Hokkaido meal were excellent, however we felt rushed the entire time (two pieces served at once). While we were nearing the end of our meal (with still more courses to come), other guests started to line the walls of the restaurant which felt like an attempt by management to move us along. Right after the least course was served but still only 45 mins into the meal (there was a clock on the wall), we were asked to leave. It feels wrong to boot us out in under an hour. Beware, even the manager said the servings were only supposed to be 30 mins.

Quality sushi for that price point. Selection of fish is Ok. Could do better with the rice (too dry, in my opinion). Chopsticks quality need to improve aswell, you can taste the wood while using it, not smooth, ruins the experience.
Service and turnover is fast, probably 30-40 mins for the entire meal. Wait times is long, around 30-50 minutes wait. Need to post a sign on the door that identifies the place as Sendo, people are getting lost.

My strategy for Sendo is to get there before they open in order to be in the first seating when they open at 5 PM. The sushi quality is top-notch, and the prices are lower than what you'd pay at a comparable quality place. During my last visit the sushi chef noticed that I am left-handed and adjusted the placement of the sushi he gave me accordingly, to make it easy to pick up. I was really impressed with this personal touch. But the reason to come is for the amazing fish. I brought my daughter here to celebrate her first completed semester at college and we had a very special evening.

I have been going to Michelin Star omakase for the last 10+ years to these new spots that’s been opening every year. Sendo. - I have to say the quality of the fish was pretty good and definitely the price was amazing. The only thing I didn’t like was the rush. Two nigiri at a time and even if you’re still on your first piece, they start stacking the next one. Felt so rushed…. Not the usual omakase experience where you’re eating one at a time with a nice conversation with friends. Also the push at the end for any a la carte…. We had the lady come 3 times with the host coming by in between where we ordered our additional pieces…. Then she came back asking if we want something. Also tea - I thought the tea would have been a little more worth the price but for that price I got a little mug filled half way of tea. Hmmmm

Easily the best sushi in NYC, rivaling Masa or any other high end omakase spot, but for a ridiculously low price. The atmosphere is awesome, the staff there are extremely friendly, and the service is speedy without feeling rushed. I recommend putting your name down on the list and then going and getting a drink at Oscar Wilde while you wait.

Came here around 5ish on a Sunday with my boyfriend and waited around 20 mins for seats. The place is small and cozy, and I loved the vibes. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Tokyo Set for $39 which includes 9 nigiri, 2 handrolls, and 1 mini kaisendon. The server explained that the Hokkaido Set included the same basic nigiri in the beginning but ends with more premium nigiri towards the end, which sets it apart from the Tokyo Set. I absolutely loved the experience, the quality of the fish, and the service. The sushi chef was very attentive and asked how we liked the food a few times. My favorites were the King Salmon and Yellowtail (both nigiri and handroll). My boyfriend loved the King Salmon and Scallop (Hotate). We both ordered additional a la carte pieces in the end and loved it. I would probably try the Hokkaido Set next time, as I think that comes with Toro as one of the nigiri’s. Definitely recommend this place and will come again!
Also—the restaurant is on the second floor of an inconspicuous building like an apartment so we definitely passed by it a few times before realizing. There’s no sign on the door either but very nice people let us know that the restaurant was there.

While the ambiance of the small bustling restaurant is hard to beat, the culinary side does not match the esthetics. While not incredibly expensive, a $60 dinner that won't blow you away and leaves you hungry is not something I need to come back to. Additionaly, while the restaurants small size is a fun experience to take in, the focus on turnover makes your food hurried and does not even leave time enough to enjoy those few bites you get. All in all a fun experience, but paying $60+ for a 30min dinner after a 45min wait for a seat is not the greatest setup

Sendo is hidden on the 2nd floor and is quite small. There’s a bar with 3 sushi chefs and you order off a menu. There are options for omakase sets but we decided to order a la carte. The nigiri and handrolls were excellent. The chefs prepare them with the ideal amounts of wasabi and soy sauce, and the fish were fresh. Highly recommend this place!

After a bumpy start where it felt as though every customer was expected to buy the set menu ($47) , I was finally able to order a la carte… and order alcoholic drinks.
We did not want a set menu with only 12 pieces of Nigiri and sushi rolls. We ended up ordering about 35 pieces of Nigiri.
All Nigiri was amazing.
It was made with attention to detail and efficiency. It was fun and interesting to talk to the chef about the provenance of each ingredient and try Hokkaido Uni for the first time.
My only genuine comment where room for improvement would be that I think the ordering system needs to be improved. I felt bad for the chef having to repeat 4/5 times to the staff what I’d ordered each time I ordered, and felt there must be a better way to manage that.
Nonetheless, this place is great and I highly recommend for those who look for quality over quantity with an appreciation for the finer side of sushi.

Some of the best (and most affordable) omakase I have had in the city. Really fantastic and intimate setting with 3 options for a great selection of hand rolls and nigiri plus some other specials. Highly recommend, but be sure to come during a non-peak time or be okay to out your name in and then walk around a bit! It can be hard to find, up an unassuming staircase and through a door with no sign, but you’ll be glad you found it!
Favorite menu item? Black cod nigiri. Like butter. 🧈

Hole in the wall but once yo walk in it’s a little gem . Great service and interactive chefs as they’re preparing your food . We did the special with 10 nigiri and 2 hand rolls and the mini rice dish . They were plying some old school hip hop which I thought added a nice ambiance . Everyone seemed happy to be there . The wait was about an hour but you could tell the sushi was high quality . The nigiri were filled with flavor. Would come back .

This review is based on service and not food…
On 11/12/24, I arrived to Sendo at 6:30PM and was told that there were 16 parties ahead of me and the approx. wait time was about 2hours or less as some parties may cancel. Given that there were many positive reviews about this trendy spot, my friend and I decided to wait.
At about 1.5 hours later, I came back to the host and asked for an update. He said there were currently 5 parties ahead of us. There was no time frame he could give me. I was told they will text me. I said okay and proceeded to wait outside as Sendo is a very tiny place and spacing was limited.
A minute later, I received a text msg asking if I was still interested in Sendo to which I responded “Yes”. Thirty minutes had gone by. I came back inside to see if my table was ready. The host responded “Oh I remember you, hmm you were placed on the list since 630PM, did you respond to the text? I said I did and showed it to him. He says “Oh I will put you back in, our business model is I can’t leave seats empty or I will get in trouble.” This leads me to believe he gave my table away.
I thought a second text would notify me when my table was ready. But I did not receive one. I decided to continue my wait for the next available seating. My friend suggested that I give Sendo feedback on how to better the auto texting communication system so that confusion can be avoided for future patrons.
After speaking to the host, not only did I NOT receive understanding instead I was told “Thank you, but this is our business model.” We decided to walk out that very moment as Sendo had no desire to give its patrons the experience. The host did not show any empathy or care for what I had to say. If this is the type of “experience” that Sendo wants for its patron, I highly doubt that the food will taste good. I will never know as I will be taking my business elsewhere where its valued and I am treated with respect.

Sendo was the worst sushi experience I've ever had in my life. The service was beyond bad, and the host seemed like they couldn't care less about the customers. To make matters worse, the sushi tasted like it had been sitting out for days, and I'm pretty sure my friends almost got food poisoning from it. I ended up throwing up afterwards and felt sick the rest of the night. I do NOT recommend anyone ever going to Sendo.

I love the accessible high quality sushi, but I don’t think the waitlist approach is working very well.
From what I can see, there is a 2-3 hour waitlist built up every night, and then a lot of people cancel, leaving the hosts scrambling to puzzle piece who they can still fit in and calling people all night to try to figure it out.
We had a party of 5 and got a call that 3 of us could be seated. I confirmed that it works and we were on our way. We were 1 block away and came in 3-4 minutes, but then the 3 spots weren’t available because “someone beat us to it.” This was a big bummer.
We then had to wait another 30 min while they proceeded to seat other people who fit the party sizes (this was after the 2 hour wait).
The food was great for the price point and the hosts were lovely, but the experience was tainted by the waitlist experience — I feel our expectations were poorly set several times throughout the night.

I went here twice within one month and my opinion has changed on this place. The first time I went we got seated within 20 minutes and I was in love with every piece that I got. Me and my friend got the Hokkaido and Tokyo sets which came with 9-10 nigiri pieces, two handrolls (one being yellowtail which was my favorite thing of the meal), and a mini kaisen don.
I was really disappointed to come again only a few weeks later for them to not give me any of the things i highlighted above in the same set I ordered previously. We waited this time 2 hours to get seated at 9pm. And as soon as we sat they told us they were doing last call and we felt rushed already. Telling us you’re doing last call before we even get to look at the menu is absurd. And then the waiter proceeded to tell us we were going to be missing out on a couple pieces for some reason. I understand we got a late seating but for only being open 5 hours a day and making us wait 2 hrs, you would think they wouldn’t run out of things. This time I didn’t get the yellowtail handroll and instead I’m pretty sure they served us two of the same tuna handrolls just at different times. And we got replica pieces for a couple of our nigiri pieces again just at different times. Then finally we also ordered a beer and never got it which added to our disappointment in the service.
They removed so many things in the span of a couple weeks which feels like a cheat to the experience I was expecting. Additionally they charged us $41 each for the Tokyo set (not including the sales tax added to the end of the bill) when the menu states $39 which is another sly detail to note - even though it’s only a few bucks they should honor their menu prices…I just feel like they are slowly trying to charge more for less and I noticed this since I saw the original menu from when they first opened had 3 handrolls for the same sets but now they only come with 2. Safe to say I won’t be coming back.

SO WORTH IT. This place was such an amazing experience, highly quality unique fish, it had a very exclusive atmosphere about it as there are limited seats and a personal chef serves you - ours was so friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. I don't remember his name but he served the four of us on October 13th, made our experience memorable and fun.
Will be coming back next time we visit New York and will always recommend 🙏🏼

Sendo in NYC is a hidden gem that you’d easily overlook if you didn’t know where to look. Nestled on the second floor, through the door to the left of the pizza spot on the corner, it has a bit of a “secret entrance” vibe. With a square black and white Sendo sign adorning the doorway leading you to the steps to get to the second floor entrance. After a long workday, I stood outside, thinking I’d need to be buzzed in. It took me a good five minutes before calling the front desk, and Craig, the incredibly friendly host, reassured me that this happens often. Turns out, it was my own tired mind missing that I just had to push the door open rather than pull—Craig couldn’t have been more understanding and patient.
Once inside, the experience was seamless. Craig made me feel welcome immediately and was able to efficiently move through seating to allow me to be sat in the most efficient way possible.
The setting is intimate, with only 12 seats, and after scanning a QR code to join the waitlist, I had the pleasure of meeting Guy the owner. Guy is as passionate as he is personable; he shared that he recently published his first book, The Art of Sushi, which features stunning images and explores the art of sushi across different regions in the U.S.—almost like a roadmap of the best-known sushi spots. You can find it on Amazon, and after trying the tasting sets at Sendo, you’ll be convinced he knows exactly what he’s talking about.
The sushi itself is outstanding. Every bite showcased not only a mastery of preparation but also a deep care and respect for the craft. The flavors and ingredients were rich and balanced, leaving me impressed at every turn. If you’re looking for a sushi experience that feels like a personal, curated journey through the art itself, Sendo is a must-visit.

Update: STILL GOT A CALL
I am re-posting my review from September because someone had originally reached out and wanted me to remove my review. He called me to talk about my experience, then proceeded to ask me to change my review (I did) then told me to remove it if I believed it was a 3 star experience because it would hurt their business. Reviews by customers are based on their experience not how you want to be viewed.
The host didn't let me use the bathroom when I arrived then proceeded to let two other girls use it. Apparently there's plumbing issues but they don’t want to put up a sign because everyone ignores it. Also, my biggest critique, they let social media influencers continue to call them an omakase experience. You are NOT OMAKASE so stop letting customers spread false information. It feels like they know that and are running with this misconception because they are getting more people in.
They seem to have major issues with acting like they're a higher class restaurant in person, calling themselves a more casual spot online, then let influencers call them an omakase experience. Please don’t call me and try to have me remove my review, this was my experience and I am entitled to my opinions on my dining experience.

Updated review:
My friends and I were very excited to visit Sendo. Unfortunately, we were unable to dine here. The reason for my low review is how we were treated throughout the entire ordeal and afterward. We had already agreed to the wait, but I couldn’t understand why the hostess was so condescending and unwelcoming. We had made plans for dinner, and the website advertised a casual, fast dining experience, no reservations needed. There was a clear disconnect between what the website advertises and the actual experience. Had we known they would behave this way and communicate so poorly, we would have gone somewhere else— which we ultimately did.
It is now days later, and a representative named Guy reached out to my friend, describing my review as an attack due to them being a small business. I want to clarify my feedback based on my personal experience. While there are many reviews with varying perspectives, I’ve noticed several that describe experiences similar to mine. We chose this place based on positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience did not match that expectation, which is why I left a low rating.

My recent experience at Sendo in Midtown left much to be desired, despite the initial excitement my friends and I had upon visiting. We were eager to try this trendy spot, but our enthusiasm quickly faded after being met with a dismissive and condescending attitude from the host. It set an unfortunate tone for what was meant to be an enjoyable evening.
To make matters worse, the restaurant’s website failed to mention the extensive waitlist or the fact that their space is quite small, which significantly limits their capacity for walk-ins. For a venue that promotes spontaneity, it felt as though crucial information was being withheld, leading to a disappointing experience.
In the interest of improving customer satisfaction, I would suggest that Sendo create a Resy account or, at the very least, update their website to clarify that reservations are indeed necessary due to their limited seating. Transparency goes a long way in managing expectations. Additionally, I encourage the staff to adopt a more courteous and professional demeanor toward paying customers, as condescension rarely results in repeat business.

Sendo is LEGIT omokase, super super reasonably priced. The chef is a purist, this isn't trendy bs- but like super premium rice from hokkaido- a+ fish- and 100% the best unagi I've ever had in my life.

We ordered the hokkaido set again, and today’s pieces were all very fresh with the most notable pieces being trout, sea bass, sweet shrimp and Chu-toro. Although, the rice fell apart in a few pieces, the quality of the fish met my expectations for this price point this time around. I also added the Kyoto set as a supplement and was very full by the end of the meal.
Overall, I would recommend Sendo for a casual sushi spot but I would suggest coming early for a shorter wait time.
Original review:
Checked in around 7pm to get added onto the wait list. You don’t get any updates on your queue in line, so you need to stay close by. Didn’t get seated until 30 minutes before closing, so about 3 1/2 hour wait. First few pieces were fresh such as the trout and salmon, but the later pieces mainly the scallop was not, was very not fresh. We felt that if they didn’t serve the scallop it would’ve been a better experience. Okay value for the number of pieces as the pieces were on the smaller side. Service was good as were offered complementary sake for the wait, however we did feel rushed as we started and finished our meal within 30 minutes since they were closing. I would recommend having a reservation system as it would allow for a better flow of service and timing.

Best valued top quality sushi in the city!!

Phenomenal across the board, and easily the best value sushi in NYC. A very small sushi counter with about 10 seats, the quality here is unmatched for these prices and the attention to detail is extremely impressive. Rice is a perfect texture, the vibe is very traditional and reminds us of Tokyo with the casual walk-in bar, full a la carte menu, and quick meals. Very minimalistic with no crazy toppings, just top notch toro, scallop, kanpachi, and amazing king salmon zuke. Our new go-to spot when we need something quick and good 🍣🔥

So delicious!! But we felt rushed, had only 20 minutes to eat 10 courses which was too fast. The chef apologized at the end but I feel like it wasn’t his fault. We got there 30 min after opening, waited an hour. If you’re a slow eater maybe it’s not the place for you. Not sure how people are able to spend an hour here when they ask you to order a minute after you’ve sat down and give you the bill 20 minutes later. The servers were nice though!

Wait was 30-40min for single diner sunday night last seating. Easy to find and i was able to just wait comfortably nearby and downstairs. I personally have a lot of suggestions for the establishment but purely talking food and drink it was good for someone who wanted a healthy and quick fish dinner. Mean it when i say expect casual. Hokkaido set 47, sake 18. I was given an additional sake to try, which is massive brownie points and because i didnt love the otoro, i was given an additional hotate piece. Overall would come back because its such a good option for single dinning. I had chef ikko and would love to sit with him again for the fact that he knows 5 languages alone.

My boyfriend found this spot on Instagram and We’ve been wanting to try omakase for so long and while it’s not exactly omakase, it’s VERY similar. You can choose between 3 different sets of “omakase” but the only difference is the amounts/prices of each which are super reasonably priced for the amount of pieces and you can also order individual pieces for very reasonable prices. The place is small but so cute and great atmosphere. We got Yoko as our sushi chef and she was amazing! Every piece was so delicately put together and tasted amazing. (And we did not leave hungry! Which was my worry 😂) Definitely worth it! And definitely coming back! 😊😊

Chef Romiro provided a wonderful experience. I ordered the Tokyo set. The classy Japanese R&B was a nice ambient surprise in music choice as the chef was absolutely bopping while serving us. It elevated the omakase experience ten fold. The nigiri was pillowy soft (in a great way) and not too fatty. Would come back again as the rest of the staff were happy while working and checked in on us for drinks, comments, and light conversation. I would recommend this place for any chill and relaxed night out.

I love this place! My party of 4 stumbled in shortly before closing time. Carlos and Chef Ramiro very kindly accommodated us for a delicious omakase meal in record time. The space is cozy and decorated beautifully yet simply. They have a great sake list and the sushi was fantastic all around. I especially enjoyed the toro nigiri and the kaisendon. I hope to become a regular customer!

Amazing experience, this really exceeded our high expectations. We loved the simple menu, finally a place that is not super fancy Omakase (not everything has to have foie gras and ten other toppings) but still the highest quality. It is nice you choose your courses and the have the experience you want. The fish is fantastic - both the selection and the quality. And the chef explained that the rice is from Japan and why its so important, which highlights the commitment to authenticity and care for the small details. You can tell how much thought was put into this place. INCREDIBLE deal at less than $40. The price point is actually insane. It's better than other places that cost more than triple. Can't wait to come back. 10/10 all around.
And don't skip the add-ons. Both the botan ebi and the uni selection were special.

If you want to wait for 3 hours for a mediocre experience and service be my guest. I came here the first time when they opened and I had a delightful dinner (5/5 reviews)
Today I waited since 7 pm to be told every 30 minutes it was going to be 10 more minutes - very rude sushi chef and in a rush to take us out. Will not recommend to even try more than once, less in a weekend.

I came here in a group of three shortly after it opened and it was already pretty busy, so we added our names to the waitlist. The wait was about 15 minutes and once we were seated, the whole experience was great.
I got the Hokkaido set, which consists of 10 nigiri, 2 hand rolls, 1 kaisendon, for $47, but there are also $32 and $39 set options. Our chef was friendly and clearly explained everything he was serving. This was my first omakase experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My favourites were the king salmon and Hokkaido scallop - great combination of taste and texture.
The space is pretty small, and not the easiest to find. The sign on the building is pretty small, but once you enter, you go up the stairs half way and go through the door on the right. I definitely recommend trying it for a budget friendly omakase experience.

I LOVE the atmosphere here, its very cozy and casual, perfect for a solo sushi night (which is what I did!) The staff are very nice, hosts & servers are so so so friendly and welcoming. I waited for 1:40hr so it is a wait but I had a nice walk around, especially since it is so close to Times Square! I honestly dont think you will be able to beat the buck in NY for omakase sushi & the botani ebi sushi (which I was too excited to take a picture of) was to come back for! Rice Lager for main, yuzu sake for dessert, too!
Visited 5 months ago
The food was absolutely amazing! I admittedly didn’t have a high expectation given the very reasonable price, but it turned out to be even better than some of the famous/expensive omakase places that I’ve been to. Definitely will be returning.

Very average. If you looking full omakase experience I would go somewhere else. For the lower price it’s ok

sendo is a hidden gem in the Harold Square area. Don't blink or you'll miss it. It's a tiny spot, but really packs a punch with great quality fish and tasty pairings for a very affordable price. Seating is first come, first served and timed to one hour. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

Incredible new sushi spot! I went for the first time last week and was blown away by the quality and the value. Friends I went with got the hokkaido set which they loved, but I wanted to choose my own set and our waiter was super helpful. It’s also a really cool space that felt upscale but casual - will absolutely be back! Fresh amazing sushi, very central location, and unbeatable price for omakase.

I had a fantastic meal here at Sendo. Excellent quality fish, it was so fresh. I love that this place is all about good product and intimate vibes. No frills, not sushi covered in sauce. The team helped with my order, I went for the large set with various nigiris and two hand rolls. Loved it all!! Congrats to the team on their impressive new restaurant. Felt like I was in Japan.

Greta value. Got there at opening and had a 30min wait. There’s only about 12 bar seats or so. Once seated each course is served really quickly- reminds me of the standing sushi counters in japan. Definitely not a place for long catch ups but sushi quality was great for the price! The location looks to be in an apt complex. The door opens into a set of stairs and there is a very small sign.

Honest review
FYI I have eaten sushi Japan a good amount of time so my taste buds might be picky
I am big on taste than visual/atmosphere
**There is a small Sendo sign on the left of the door, walk up one flight of stairs then it will be the light brown (pine) door on your right (no Sendo sign) - inside 10-12 seats so if you want to eat right away I recommend coming at least 15-30 minutes before opening, but the course is pretty quick so it shouldn’t be too long of a wait
- no parking, nice staff and great atmosphere
Now let’s get into the sushi (w/o wasabi cause my taste buds are very sensitive and wanted to taste the fish)
I got the Tokyo Set (8 nigiri, 3 handrolls, 1 kaisendon), but was a bit hesitant cause a lot of sushi places that I went to that do not specialize in handrolls use low quality handrolls (exactly what I was afraid of), I didn’t even take picture of the handrolls so can eat it as soon as he (sushi chef Roberto) made it, but stillll I was chewing on the seaweed for years to the point I was annoyed eating the handroll. One in the beginning (seabream with shiso/ light lemon taste), one in the middle (salmon) and one at the end (blue fin tuna). Fish was fresh nothing special.
Overall the sushi (nigiri) pieces were small and the fish to rice ratio was pretty good (little less fish), but personally the rice and fish didn’t fully compliment each other cause the rice was chewy at first bite, but grainy as I kept chewing. The quality of the fish were pretty decent for Seabass, Ocean trout, Seabream, and Hokkaido Scallop (see bottom of review for descriptions)
For the other ones let me explain, yellowtail was soft chew, but flavorless and Spanish mackerel both lacked in flavor too, but I would say that the mackerel wasn’t fishy tho. The lean blue fin tuna a soft chew, but a bloody after taste which is cause it is iron rich (usually only like otoro and chutoro, the only akami cut I enjoyed was in Japan). The King Salmon had a smoked salmon taste to it which I was not as fatty like the other king salmons I had.
The last part of the meal was a mini Kaisen don which if I had a regular size spoon, it would have been 1 maybe 2 scoops. Just a good way to use the end pieces of the fish (bits of daikon with the fish). I left hungry, but no urge to order more.
With tip came out to $50.27
Seabass - chewy with a creamy taste
Ocean trout - fatty and creammy the rice fell
Seabream - smooth, marinated in lemon
Hokkaido scallop - subtle yuzu taste (pretty decent
**Recommend: a tamago at the end of the set? Or a small dessert like a panna cotta or at least a mint?
I, personally, don’t think I would be returning cause it’s not my cup of tea and I had a fishy not so clean after taste that was lingering in my mouth after I left. But for the price I think the quality is not bad for nyc? aside from the handrolls, but I have had better sushi for a more affordable prices in LA and Korea. Also I came with high expectations due to a lot of reviews (in my opinion - overhyped)

really amazing service and quick offerings. very authentic omakase service for reasonable prices. good rice to fish ratio, seasonings are simple and no crazy innovations like all the other novel places out there. no reservations so be prepared for a wait!

What can I say? This place is ridiculous good value. Best quality price sushi in NYC. Period.

This is the best restaurant ever. It’s like $50 with tip for a bunch of sushi and it’s fast paced and doesn’t take reservations which is great for me because I don’t like planning ahead that much. Ok it’s not comparable to super high end omakase that costs $103930934 but it has the best price to value ratio. I would totally come here every week to get my sushi fix. The only con is that the location can get interesting at night but near KTown so all good.

I have been a fan of sushi for decades, eating sushi 2-3 times a week. At least. Until I dined at the new mid-town sushi bar Sendo, I have always thought that great sushi has to be expensive. After my first meal at Sendo I have changed my mind.
I ordered 'Tokyo,' which is a set consisted of handrolls, nigiri, and a bowl of rice. No need to use soy souce as the chef add the souces to each one of the pieces.
What an amazing experience. Each piece is a victory, each delicious, beautifuully prepared, the highest quality across the board. The place is beautifully designed, making you feel as if you are sitting in a sushi bar in Japan. The service ia presonal and superb, making you feel at home. Sendo is my new favorite sushi in NY. Bravo!

went to sendo for a quick late lunch and only waited ~10 minutes for a seat — really glad i came here. i went for the Hokkaido set which comes with 9 nigiri, 3 handrolls, and 1 mini kaisendon, and i thought the price was reasonable for the quality and amount of fish that they give. and i know that the fish is the highlight, but i even found myself really enjoying their sushi rice and their pickled ginger, just small things that made the experience particularly great. the seasonings are simple, which really lets the seafood shine — i'd say that my favorite pieces were definitely the yellowtail and the Hokkaido scallop, but everything was distinct and lovely in its own way. service is warm and attentive, the location feels like a little secret on the edge of K-town. will definitely come back, thank you for a great experience!

All around 4 star experience. Doesn’t take reservations but only has 12 spots and knows it will have a wait. Waited 45min and ate here.
Portion sizes are very small, so you end up ordering a lot of things and spending the same as other places where you can reserve and eat a bit better (Mari.ne, Sushiro).
The location is kind of cool because nobody would expect a sushi restaurant there…but I certainly wouldn’t take someone here on a date or even a special occasion because the first impression is too bad.
Anyways, food was good. It’s just risky to go somewhere with no reservations since it’s NY in 2024 and you never know how long you’ll wait.

Sendo has quickly become my go-to takeout sushi spot - I order/eat there at least twice a week. The value is incredible and the vibe is perfect, something the area was desperately missing. The staff and manager are so friendly and accommodating - I can't say enough good things.

Sendo exceeded my expectations. It is that good.
While walking up the staircase, I stopped on the 2nd floor (as per the address). The door has no sign or indication of a sushi bar inside. However, upon opening the door, you’ll find yourself immersed in a cozy and pleasant environment.
I went with the Hokkaido set (14 pieces). The highlights for me were the king salmon and toro. They were fresh and delicious. One component that I especially enjoyed was the sushi rice. Turns out the sushi rice is imported from Hokkaido and made using a special ratio that allows it to have its unique sweet taste profile without being sticky. I thoroughly enjoyed every last bit of the rice. I won’t go into details about the nigiri because you have to try them yourself to know. They are incredibly fresh. For the price, you really cannot beat the value-proposition you are getting.
Please see my amateur pictures I took below:

I visited Sendo for lunch with the expectation of something quick, but delicious and filling. This did not disappoint. We ordered the Kyoto which came with 2 handrolls, 7 nigiri and 1 kaisendon. Such great value and very high quality fish and execution. Every bite was well crafted and tasted amazing, I specifically applaud the taste of their rice and sauces. The staff and manager are very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend if you’re in the area!
